Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh, it's great to be on Emery. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm doing all right. I was looking at this story.
I haven't really talked too much about it because I'm
just I don't really know how to think. And I
know you're following it now too, the strikes from the
military on narcotics boats, and they're getting more and more
publicized each time that they are happening. Tell me about
the reaction in Washington, DC of members of Congress about

(00:26):
these narcotic boats getting blown to smitherings.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Well, I would say that, you know, for the most part,
Republicans are very much in favor of this, and you
and that yelling in the background, by the way.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
A little bit are you are people yelling at each
other right there?

Speaker 1 (00:40):
So I'm I'm in Statuary Hall right now, which is,
you know, on the way to the chamber. So Speaker
Johnson's raptist press commerce is massive, like group of press
here and there's all these and now he's walking, so
the press is trying to chase after him and get
questions in. So that's the that's the fun stuff that's
happening right now.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Oh, it sounds like fun. Yeah, yeah, you mentioned Mike
Johnson and the Republicans. They are trying to continue to
put pressure on the Democrats to get back in office.
But these narcotic boat strikes are continuing and we're seeing
multiple of them. What about the Democrats this is a
Trump idea. Are they in favor of keeping these drugs

(01:19):
out of America or are they thinking something different because
they don't want to give Trump any credit.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Well, the issue Democrats are right now is that they
feel like they're not getting redded on this enough and
not getting enough information from the Trump administration. Obviously, some
of this stuff might be classified, and you know, they
don't always bring congressant on all the stuff, but there
are relevant committees like Intelligence, Homeland, and Armed Services that

(01:43):
sometimes they get classified briefings on this stuff, and Democrats
are arguing that they're just not getting redd in at
all and being left out of the loop. Now, there
is a House Armed Services Committee briefing going on right
now as we speak with certain members of the administration,
so we'll see if anything comes out of that. But
overall there's been Democrats have raised questions about lack of

(02:04):
information they're getting. But also there is the legality of
doing this, because yeah, the argument is and and Ran Paul,
the Republican from Kentucky's brought this up too, that he
feels there is a lack of due process, and yes,
even if you get like eighty percent of people, if
anyone on that thing is innocent, that's going to be
a problem.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Well, yeah, so I guess are these the kind of
people that would get due process in the United States? Like,
how would you go about, you know, doing this in
a different way to prevent the drugs from coming in?

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, it's a great question because you know, the these
cartels have now been designated as terror organizations by the
Trump administration, which if you do that usually that gives
the administration more power to use lethal force without you know,
certain due process protections. So you know, they have more

(02:55):
legal standing to do this than they otherwise wouldn't have
been previously. Now on the other hand, though, you know,
I think they also want to make sure that the
intel is good on this. Well, from what Republicans have
told me is that's Secretary of State Mark Ruvio. You
briefed Senate Republicans and one of their lunches recently and
kind of went through how they're determining if it's a

(03:17):
drug boat, what evidence they have, and most of them
have said that they felt satisfied and confident with what
they're hearing from the administration on this, but there's still
some others who have questioned that.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
On the Democrat side, Ryan Schmels is joining us on
the hotline today. I would guess, you know, the military
in and of itself is also just trying to flex
a little bit more. I think under Pete Haig says
leadership and trying to say this is not going to
fly in America these days. Is there going to be
some sort of pushback from where these cartels are coming

(03:52):
in these narcotics or are we going to see just
less attempts through maybe these narcotic vessels to transdrugs to
the United States and try to do it in a
different way.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Well, I had a Republican senator tell me that he
you know, they're seeing or starting to see less activity
in the oceans from cartels. Either it could be laying
low or they just could be, you know, ultimately deterred
from this. So I mean, no, I think that the
thought is, you know, this is an aggressive approach that

(04:24):
hasn't been taken before, and that's why you. Let Republicans
are praising this because you know this is going to
send a message and you are pretty much taking these
boats out. They can't get to the United States if
they're on fire, and that's what's happening right now. So
that's why I think you see such a big Republican unificate,
unified voice on this is because they feel that this
is the aggressive approach that many have wanted them to

(04:47):
take for a long time, and now the trumpdministration is
doing it.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
It is something that is a developing story and something
that we will keep an eye on as time goes on.
Ryan Smells from Washington, d C. Sorry to delay you.
You can go, Chase Mike Johnson.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Now that's all good, All good, all right, Thanks Emory
