to that in just a second. We got Schaeffer in

will not be having by a two thirty, but he
will he'll be back later on this week. We're gonna

get to a few things today. Eli Manning some interesting
thoughts on the San Diego Chargers, a kind of debunks
a myth that's been going for about twenty years. We're
gonna get to that in about fifteen minutes. Also, take
a look at the NBA playoffs, but Pottery's Dodgers. I mean,
it doesn't really get much better than this in terms
of just a just a baseball fan. I mean, these

are it's rare in baseball that we get its sighting
matchups that have playoff type feels on the eighteenth That
just doesn't usually happen. And I think both teams have
a lot to prove, especially in this series. Like we'll
start from the start from the Pottery's perspective, unbelievable, unbelievable
weekend for the pots I mean, you're sitting there, Gavin

Sheets looks like a damn superstar, and you sweep the Mariners.
I know they didn't have Cal Rawley, but that that's impressive.
That was an impressive, you know, sweep over the weekend
considering you're on the road in Seattle, and I was
nervous about this weekend for the Potterys and that you
have a massive series against the Dodgers. So I kind
of thought the Dodgers and the the the Potteries might

slip up over the weekend in kind of, you know,
looking ahead to this matchup today in these three games,
but they didn't. Both teams swept, and the Potteries are
a unique spot right now because you're sitting here. The
Big three did not play well over the weekend. In
maryl Tatisa Machado, the pitching was fantastic. I love what
you saw from Manny Vasquez Walker Buehler. I thought it

deserved a lot of credit for how he pitched over
the weekend, kind of got in some jams, but you know,
got a couple of people on, but never really never
really let the let the Mariners get any momentum. And
that's a good baseball team, Like I know, this year
they're not playing up to up to their up to par,
but that's a team that was in the ALCS last year.
You give him a lot of credit for being on

the road. But now we're gonna get a chance to
see this Pottery's team because over the last week excellent
series against the Mariners the Brewers, you left a lot
to be desired going one and two there. Gavin Sheets
had the one inning of amazing play, but besides that,
you kind of got punked in that series against Milwaukee.
Now you have the Dodgers. Now you have the team

that is back to back World Series champs. And from
the Pottery's perspective, they're looking at this as because a
lot of national pundits he going back to this doesn't
really matter what national punnits think, but a lot of
people have, especially nationally who might not be watching The
Potteris every night, or even people locally who watch The

Potteris every night, have kind of taken the Pottery's record
with a little bit of a grain of salt, a
little bit of a yeah, that's great, they're winning games,
but the Big three haven't done anything in their run
differessionals run differentials plus seven. They were had a negative
run differential going into that series against the Mariners. But

now you have a goal opportunity because this is the
the Pottery's Dodgers. Doesn't just attract Potter's and Dodger fans,
this attracts a national audience that people are going to
are going to to be tuning in for this, will
this will be on PTI Sports Center, will be covering
this at nauseum over the night. So you can talk
about a real opportunity to make a make a statement

that hey, you know, if the Potteris can't beat good teams,
they're here to stay in the NL. Because you did
against the Mariners. You lost series against the Cubs, lost
the series against the Brewers, won one game and both
of those series went over the Dodgers, I think would
change a lot of people's perception of the ceiling of
this team. And to beat the Dodgers, you're gonna have

to hit the baseball because it's one thing to beat
teams when Meryl, Machado and Tatis aren't playing very well,
but it's another to defeat the defending champs. So you
know we're gonna bring it. In terms of their kind
of pressure in this series, the Dodgers have not been
playing great baseball. Yes, they coming on a five game

winning streak. They destroyed the Angels over the weekend, won
the last two games against the Giants in their series
last week, but you know, two weekends ago they lost
against the Braves two or three games. They haven't always
been playing the best baseball. They lost the first two
games against the Giants. Shoey Otani until about last Tuesday
or Wednesday hadn't really been hitting the baseball well at all.

Kyle Tucker's having a really good month of May. They
just got Mookie Betts back, But it's kind of the
same old story with the Dodgers. The Dodgers are any
are inn a unique place as well, and some of
their star pitchers are hurt. Tyler glasnow back on the IL.
Blake Snell made one start against the Atlanta Braves, gave
up five runs, and now is back on the IL.

They're saying it's not serious. But we'll see Bruce ark Graderal,
a big bullpen arm that they were counting on to
come back, got some negative news in terms of an injury.
Jack Dryer just hit the il. Edwin Diaz is in
the middle a couple weeks into a three month long
stint because of loose bodies in his elbow. The star closer.
So the Dodgers, he feels like year in and year out.

Although they do have, if not the most talented team
in baseball, one of the most talented teams in baseball,
they have injury concerns. And maybe this is the Dodgers
doing the Hey, we're gonna bring Blake Snell along slowly
and we're gonna arrest all these guys for until the postseason.
But you do get concerned if you're the Dodgers of

Tyler Glasnew and Blake Snell both are injury prone pitch.
And it came it worked out last year because they
came back right in time for the postseason. But how
many times can you keep running it back? Because that
would be the one thing you looked at for the
Dodgers is they are kind of an older, older team,
like there's a lot of veteran. Mookie's in his thirties,
Show is in his thirties, Freddie Freeman's in his thirties,

ti Oscar Hernandez in his thirties, like a lot of
the big time talent on the team is in is
in the thirties. Now they have a pipeline full of
young talent. Jose de Paula looks like he's gonna come
up soon. Andy pot Has has arguably been the best
hitter on the team to the first two months of
the season, and Kyle Tucker's got it going. But the
Dodgers are also trying to prove that Hey, despite the
Cubs having a really good season, despite the Braves looking

like maybe the best team in baseball, the Yankees in
the Al are playing really well and they got the
Patres there. We're neck and neck with the NL West
that they're there to stay. So this this series is
gonna be really fun over the next three days. A
from from a San Diego perspective, but two from We're
gonna We're gonna see where these teams are at right
now because the doctors something, there are some question marks.

Because it's one thing they destroyed the Angels. You gotta
give them credit. They destroyed the Angels, but it also
is the Angels. So we'll see over the next three games.
I believe you have some Ken Rosenthal sound. Ken Rosenthal
not the most popular man in San Diego, but he
did have some nice things to say about the Padres.

I don't know that they're getting enough attention. They're one
of the most amazing stories in baseball right now. Why
are they amazing because look at the way this season
has evolved for them. If you had told me an
opening day that Nick Poveda would go down as well
as missing you Darvish and Joe Musgrove, that Manny Machado

and Jackson Merrill would have ops's barely above six hundred,
that Fernando Tatis Junior would have no home runs, all
of this about a quarter of the way a little
bit more than that into the season. What would you
have thought. You would have thought the Padres probably were
in some trouble. They're not in trouble. They are one
of the best teams in the National.

So I agree with Ken Rosenthal. A lot of people,
you know, Ken Rosendal obviously has a shoppy history with
the with the city of San Diego, but he's right,
and kudos to Ken Rosendal forgive them. The Pottery is
a little bit of a credit because a lot of
national punits simply have not a lot of national punnits
have kind of with the Potterys. Yeah, I'll believe it

when I see it. And the Dodgers did something interesting
there in terms of pitching matchups. When you look at
this series, where do the Potterys have advantages? Where do
the Dodgers have advantages? The Potterys have advantages in the bullpen.
I think the Potter's bullpen is better than the Dodgers
when fully healthy, you could make an argument, but especially
with no m and Diaz, Jack Dryer hitting the il,

they are running through a lot of arms that Dodger bullpen. Yeah,
they do have Alex Vesia Edgardo and Henriquez is a
flamethrower but doesn't always have the best location. I think
There's bullpen has a big I would give that the
advantage to the Potters starting pitching rotation, not even close Dodgers. Now,
I do think the Potterys can hold up Michael King

going times is obviously no slouch. Michael King is a
very good pitcher. Griffin canning tomorrow feels like a big
start for him in terms of his first start was
good and his second star was a disaster last week
against Milwaukee, and then and then on Wednesday, Randy Vasquez
will be going. Randy Vasquez, I think he feels solid

about The Dodgers, though, were interesting, so originally show it
was always gonna be Oshanobemmodo against Michael King. Originally it
was supposed to be shoe Aotani going tomorrow and Emmett
Shehan going Wednesday. Now Emmit she In against Randy Vasquez
would probably be the one pitching matchup that you might
give an edge to the Potterys Shehn has been good
this year for the Dodgers, but Randy Vasquez has has

some more major League Baseball experience. I think you might,
especially at Pecko, give him the give him the nod.
But it is telling you something that the Dodgers are
lining up Otani a. It's kind of a testament to
how good Randy Vasquez has been. I think the Dodgers
looked at it as, yeah, we don't need to waste

showyos Honey against Griffin Canning. With all this, with all
respect to Griffin Canning, they're going Showo Tony against Griffin Canning.
We'll take our chances with Mshihan against Griffin Canning, and
we'll go up against Randy Vasquez, who we know has
some good games against the Dodgers, has had some really
good games against the Dodgers actually, and can give the
team a lot of length. And tonight's matchup, specifically, Yo
(10:35):
should Bmamoto has given up fifteen runs in his last
twenty four innings, so that is something that the Potteries
can build off of. Gm Momoto one of the best
pitchers in baseball. I mean, I'd say it. I had
one of the greatest pitching performances of all time in
that Game six in Game seven in the World Series.
The fact that he pitched through I believe a hundred
pitches and then came back into through two and two

thirds innings in Game seven was unbelievable type stuff. But
Gimamoto has struggled a little bit in the last few addings.
In fact, that Giants game last week where he started
the eight to nine hitters for the Giants had three
home runs off him, so he's been a little bit
prone to the long ball this year. And when show
Ay in Yamamoto pitch, the Dodters also having given them
(11:17):
much run support. I don't put a lot of stock
into run support because it just can flip on any
given night. You would take a good pitcher and assuming
that your team can get it together. But that has
kind of been the case of the Dodgers. I don't
know if it's a case of the Dodgers feel like
Yamamoto and show Ay pitching that they feel like they
can just kind of go out there and you know,

kind of run slug their way through the game and
hope that they can squeeze over a couple runs. And
they don't have the same mindset that they would have
of a Rokie Sasaki pitching, a guy who struggled this
year for the Dodgers did have a good start yesterday.
But this feels like a real opportunity because Yamamoto has
been suceptible to the long ball a little bit this year.

to MARYL. Tatisa Machado. The Pottery's had a great weekend
those three had a terrible weekend, and it it goes
back to for me, how aj Preller deserves so much credit.
If aj Preller wasn't working his magic, where would the
Potteri's be, Where would the potteris be without seeing the
talent and Gavin Sheets in that a former White Sox

top prospect that was kind of wasting away on the
White Sox that there was still some talent, some untapped
potential there. Miguel Andahar unbelievable signing. Nick Castianos has gotten
it together recently good as Sesander, you know, getting it together.
And AJ Peller holding this team down with just constantly
hitting on the fringe signings. But something I got into Friday,
Gavin Sheets is not supposed to be the best player

on the team. It's great that he's, you know, one
of the players of the month when the players certainly
in the last week and he and he's raking right
now for the Pods, but Gavin Sheets ideally is your
fourth or fifth or sixth best hitter because you're paying Merril,
Machado and Tatis to be those guys. And in a
series he's against a Mariner team where I want to
give them credit because they deserve a lot of credit

for sweeping the Mariners, but a Marin team missing cal
Rawley in the Mariners kind of struggling this year. It's
easy for the Pods to squeeze through without the Big
three performing. But on the other side of that, you
got to figure against the Dodgers, you are gonna have
to have a moment from one of those three Texas
seven zero four to seven zero, start your message with
team or shoot us a call eight seven seven seven

seven four seven sixty. What player do you have the
most faith in this with this week, Merril, Tatis or
Machado And who has to have the step up for
the for the Potterys to win this series. Very excited

behind it. Come to find out, not so much. This
is what Eli man he had to say on Busting
with the Boys.

I just didn't feel like they were the most committed
team to winning at the time. Marty Schottenheimer was the
head coach, who was awesome, had great respect for him.
But like they came to work me out in New Orleans,
went to dinner, and like there was this friction between
you know, the head coach, general manager, like the owners.

They're all like.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Yelling, kind of like fighting. We're at a Marriotte like
restaurant and you know, Schottenheimer's mad that were He's like,
we're in New Orleans reading now a Marriott and you know,
so he's like pissed. They're like kind of just bickering,
and it just seemed didn't seem like there was a
whole lot of like agreement on things and like they
were kind of like committed to building a great winning
franchise at that moment. My parents really weren't supportive.

My dad didn't like the idea.

He came to my defense and like supported me after
everything was going down, but a lot of he didn't
like that you were kind of demanding, I don't want
to go to Sandy, right. Yeah, she didn't like. He
didn't like that, and afterwards he took like a blunt
of a lot of the criticism because he kind of
came to my defense and you know, people are saying, oh,
you played in New Orleans all those years, you didn't win,
so you're trying to dictate like where your son's going.

He's and and he just kind of, you know, bit
his tongue and said, I'm just you know, like this
is what he wants to do, and I support him.
And he kind of did some media to try to
save me from doing all the media and taking the hits.

I know this doesn't need to be said, but it
is such a disappointment when like what's gonna happen in
the next few days, the Potter's and Dodgers, this is
going to be sold out. It's going to be unbelievable event,
and San Diego will be We'll be on the national
stage because the Dodgers are in town. The Potter's are
a damn good baseball team themselves, and this NS rivalry

has become become a rivalry in sports that people look
to who aren't Pottery's fans and who aren't Dodger fans.
And when you hear that story from Eli Manning about
Dean Spanos and realizing that one guy could really mess
it up for a whole city. It's just it's frustrating.
I mean, like, think of what the Chargers did. The Chargers,

Marty Schottenheimer won fourteen games, fourteen to two, and they
fired him, Like the Chargers are. We're in no position
ever to be firing coaches after fourteen wins. Like the
Steelers in the seventies. Okay, they won a bunch of games.
The Cowboys in the nineties, all right, because they were
winning Super Bowl something, right, But the Chargers, No, the
Chargers did not deserve the ability to be doing that.

And you hear that story from Eli in the way
he say it took him to a Marriott and they're
in New Orleans and that's what made him want to
not go to San Diego. Hey, it's disappointing. It's embarrassing
from Dean Spanos. And I'm curious why this comes out
now because it was for years Archie's fault. That was
(17:47):
kind of the narrative. It was Archie's fault. Archie was
the Archie was dictating Eli's career, was dictating where he
was going to go, budding into it. If he hadn't
been there, people would have, you know, thought he would
have just went to San Diego and come to find
out that that that's not the case. It's pretty crazy.
I wonder if it would have been different. Like we
(18:08):
look at that draft class in Philip Rivers and Ben
Roethlisberger and Eli Manning, and it's a tough conversation we've
had for many years here in San Diego. I personally
believe Philip Rivers is a Hall of Famer. I'm not
even just saying that for San Diego audience, I really do.
I know he never won a Super Bowl, but can
make the argument that you make the argument that Philip

Rivers was the most talented quarterback of those three. Now,
Eli had the moments. Eli had the you took down
the dynasty, you took down maybe the greatest team ever
in the New England Patriots, and he did it twice.
He kept Tom Brady having nine super Bowls himself nine
super Bowls. But the flip side of that was he
had Michael Strahan, you had Justin Tuck, he had Steve Spagnola.

You know, you had some some you know, Mario Manninghan,
Victor Cruz. Mean, there was a lot of talent on
those teams. Teaky Barber for for some of those teams,
and they had big Ben. Big Ben won two Super
You could make the case that big Ben maybe didn't
live up to what he could have been. I mean,
he had ab in his prime, he had let me
On Balanus Prime, r Tapis, Briant and Juju. Those offenses

were some of the cold could rival the greatest show
on turf and in a lot of uh, you know,
a lot of eras. And he did win two Super
Bowls San Antonio Holmes catch and and you know, had
had a couple couple appearances. So there's a lot of credit.
But you know, it is crazy you look back at
that draft class and it what doesn't mean for this year?
I mean I fleshed and I were talking about it earlier.

I wonder why now, Like why does that come out now?
Charges are in La. Chargers have a quarterback Snile He
Chargers are looking for a quarterback where this would make
more sense with you know, maybe the draft process for
next year. But the one thing I can think of,
and I'm not a conspiracy theorist, not that guy, but
Arch Manning is coming out here in what when's the

NFL draft? Ten months? Eleven months? Arch Manning's coming out here.
Arch Manning could have could have came out this year,
probably been the second quarterback, taking buying Fernanda Mendoza. He
didn't have a great start to the year, but certainly
turned it on late in that game against Michigan. But
Arch Manning, and I said this earlier, I don't want
to I don't want to compare arch Manning and Dante

more than these guys to Eli and Philip Rivers and
Ben Roethlisberger, because those guys are Hall of famers, some
of the great quarterbacks we've seen, certainly over the last
twenty five years. But we're all looking at a draft
class next year with arch Manning, Dante Moore, Maava from
SC You got saying the local kid from from from
Ohio State, CJ. Carr from Notre Dame. This supposed to

be a loaded draft class next year. And the timing
is really interesting. Why you would say this now, because
I'm not saying it's going to happen again with arch Manning,
but it does. If it were to happen again. The
last thing I'm sure the Manning family would want, is
it all pointing back to Archie again, is for Archie
to get more of than blame. And it's it's kind

of interesting it took this long for Eli to come
out and say that it wasn't you know, it wasn't
It wasn't Archie because people people crushed Archie Manning. Archie
Manning didn knew its a ton of public appearances for
years because he was getting just destroyed in the media,
certainly here in San Diego. Rightfully so, because that's what
that's what we all thought. We thought that that's why
Eli Manning wasn't a Charger. But it was interesting hearing that.

It's it's, you know, just more evidence of Dean Spanos
being Dean Spanos seven and six. So thank you for
reminding me of the Spanos family or a bunch of
bleeping clowns. I don't hate the Chargers, I just hate
the owners. It is. It is disappointing because, like you
show the way he treated potential number one overall pick
I mean, then he certainly reflected that on the way
he treated the fans in this city. All right. Coming

bit out of context because the Dodgers had lost the
first two games against the San Francisco Giants. He said
that that, you know, he wasn't really worried too much
about the Potteris. He was asked about the question about
the Potterys were were kind of gaining on the Dodgers.

Were they worried about it? He said, they weren't, you know,
they weren't worried of Potterys. But and again I think
it was a little taken out of context. He's like,
we're not playing them right now, and then proceeded to
give flowers to the Potterys. But ney of these seems
like each other, and the Potterys have had certainly had opportunities.
Like people think of Revision's history when we get into

the Dodgers a little bit of the last two World
Series titles, the Dodters have earned them, and I'm not
taking anything away from them, but the Dodgers haven't exactly
just blown the doors off everyone. This has not been
an ok C run so far this year where they're
eight to oher and they haven't really ever been challenged
in the series. I mean, let's go back, let's go

back two years the you know, we all remember the
Faithful couple nights when the Pottery's had the ability. One
of the biggest moments in supports history for the potteris
you beat him in twenty twenty two and then you
have him at game at home, Game four with the
shot to win and through dyalanc East on Shore arrest
and the rest is history. Dodgers end up, you know,
winning by blowout in that game and then win two

to oher up in LA. But that was the point.
I mean that the Potter's I remember opened up that
game four in the morning as World Series favorites, and
it was kind of crazy just seeing the po the
a top the odds there and Worlds areaes. Odds don't
mean anything as as evidence, but the Potteries had a
real shot, and I think a lot of people in
San Diego, I think we all feel like, ah, man,

that was that was a golden opportunity that was missed.
But then we even go back last year, I mean,
the there's been this thing that the Dodgers just run
away with things in the in the regular season, and
that hasn't been the case. I mean, the Dodgers have
went back to back ninety win seasons. They probably could
have won one hundred and ten games, but it goes
back to they they've rested a lot of pitchers last year.

Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell were on the IL for
large portions of the season. Roki Zusaki was in the
IL for a large portion of the season. Came back.
It was essentially their their star closer for them in
the postseason run. Same thing's happening this year, Tyler Glasnow
and Blake Snell.

They try to bring Blake Snell back a couple weeks ago,
but he's back on the il. So is this the
Dodge positioning for the future or is there actual some
actual concern because Blake Snell and Tyler Glassnew have been

the air and it was the dot The Pottery's played

up in LA for that three game set the weekend
before and over and then the following weekend they played
at Pickle Park. And then in the middle of that
you had Mason Miller in that trade headline where the
Potteri's acquired everybody, and there was that real buzz around
the team, but they were all right there. The Pottery's
in fact led the division for a cup of coffee

there and if we remember, the Dodgers swept the Potterys
over the weekend. Maney machadod and talked to the media
after there's a lot of drama to the potter To
be fair of the Potter's they won two or three
games the following weekend, but they lost so many games
to the Dodgers that when they lost that Sunday game,
they lost a tiebreaker, and therefore the division was kind
of lost. So, right, you can chalk it up to

a May matchup, but it feels a lot bigger than that,
because the Pottery is trying to prove they belong. They're
trying to prove that they are a legit team. Because
we kind of got into a little bit earlier at
the top of the show, I think there is a
lot of skeps are like, yeah, but they're plus seven
and run differential. Yeah, And there's there's multiple ways to
look at that, Like you can look at it. The
pessimistic way to look at it is the Stars aren't

doing anything. They're living off the margins and they're barely
winning these games. Not about the Marritors, but they're barely
winning a lot of these games. That's the pessimistic way
to look at it. The optimistic way to look at
it is they're doing They're They're winning all these games
without any of that stuff happening, without Meryl playing good baseball,
without Tatis hitting a home roun with Machado having an

atrocious batting average and without Nick Pivetta, without Joe Muskroll,
without a lot of your core pieces, which has has
been a which again, if you would have told a
lot of people that Muskrove wore not have pitched Paveta
with a missignificant time, Merrill and Machado and Tatis would

have the numbers they had, I think people would have
been like, oh, the Potteries are fourth in the division.
They're They're they're literally disaster of a record. And Gavin
Sheets and Miguel Andaharn Luis Caisano despite being an injured
right now, and the pitching staff has been phenomenal. I
think they've been the unsung heroes. Michael King has really
elevated his game. Brandy Vasquez we heard so much in
spring training about him kind of growing in his game.

And it's great in spring training when when guys have
good spring trainings, but it doesn't always mean anything, and
that has really translated to the regular season here. And
Lucas Gielita last night was unreal. That was fantastic. I know,
we got the base loaded there in the fist six innings,
something like that, but probably Sam had probably left him
in a little too long. I know there was some
concerns last night about gie Leo's fastball was down the

ninety one ninety two mile prour instead of it being
ninety four ninety five, and that's fair. We'll see as
he goes. It goes on if his you know, if
he's had successful starts. But I'm excited about this series.
I do think Giolito again is an option, is better
than better than her Ma Marquez, better than a lot
of guys. And if Giolito again is ideally if you're

the potres, he's not the number one starter even now,
Michael King's the number one starter and Fasquez the two
you're ideally hoping if everything goes according to play. Pa
Veta comes back at some point all Star Break we're hearing,
Muscove comes back at some point with the All Star
Game we're hearing, and then gi Alito and Michael King
and Randy Vascus is a collection of guys that you
can really really throw there. So I'm this series is

a big deal. If it means a lot to both teams.
It's fun with the rivalry, and that gets to the
I love that the Potterys and Dodgers. Maybe not the
players as much because we see Mookie Betts having every
player on his podcast. They're just chumming it up like
they're best friends. But it's fun, especially to sport like
baseball where you lack the The NFL just creates rivalries

because it's so a game by game basis. Even two
teams that never play each other, two teams may really
need the game, so it creates that kind of resentment
and that anger. It's just a physical sport. You're literally
tackling grow men. You're going to going to want to
get some get back. But baseball, when you know, we

and it's it's kind of always big picture topics. It's

fun when you get a series in May of two
teams that actually despise each other, really don't like each other,
and hopefully that comes out in the elevated sense of
play tonight. I'm excited for these games, can't wait for them,

Western Conference Finals in the Eastern Conference Finals set. We

got Spurs and timber or not timber Old Spurs and

Knicks tomorrow. Kind of lacklesser games of the weekend in
terms of they were all blowouts. The Timberwolves got blown out,
Anthony Edwards ran out. If you saw that Anthony Edwards
left the game with eight minutes ago, was dabbing up
the Spurs players basically conceding that the game was over.

And I know that that was kind of a kind
of a hot topic today people frustrated, but the kind
of story that got buried a little bit. They won
MVP rightfully, so I don't have too many problems with that.
I am Carrie's going forward though. So when you look
at the breakdown of who got votes, so Jokic actually
got the second amount of first place votes, So Shay

got eighty three, Jokic got ten when he got five,
Luca got zero, Kay Cunningham got two, and Jalen Brown
got zero himself. Now, I'm a Laker fan. I'm not
gonna sit here and have outraged that Luca didn't get
a vote. He got hurt for the last month of
the last three weeks of the season, and to the

Thunder's credit, they whooped up on the Lakers, and when
the Lakers were fifteen to two heading into April that
fateful night where Reeves got hurt and Luca got hurt,
they could have done something if if the Lakers would
have won that game, I think the MVP conversation would
have become a real discussion there. My problem with the
MVP voting is it's supposed to be the most valuable

player that year, and like you can make a like
Kay Cunningham got hurt the last couple weeks of season
as well, he got two votes. I would take Luco
over k Cunningham. That's just me. But it is funny,
So Shay one back to back MVPs won eighty three votes. Jokic.
I can't believe Jokic got ten votes to Wenby's five.
I mean, Wenby, I get it. Some of the underlying metrics.

He played less minutes, took less shots than a lot
of people. He played the fewest minutes of anyone in
the MVP conversation, But in the NBA it's funny it's
kind of the opposite sometimes how we get voter fatigue
in the NFL, Like it's hard for NFL quarterbacks. It's
really a quarterback award to win back to back MVPs.
People get tired of the same players, unless you're that

much better than everyone, unless Lamar Jackson really is the
best quarterback by a mile. If it's close, it's probably
going to the next best guy, the new quarterback on
the block. That's why, like Kayleb Williams the favorite this year,
Jayane Daniels has good odds because you're kind of looking
for that next big thing. I don't I don't think
the vote is want to just keep giving it to
Mahomes or Alan or Lamar every single season. The NBA

is funny how Sga now went back to back, not
hating on it. He's on the best team, best record,
the favorite to win the championship. And Jokic though, like
Jokic missed a significant portion of the season in the
in the middle of the season, like a month, a
month and a half, and it's funny how he kind
of gets rowed in as gets to getting ten votes,

like Luca didn't get the same thing for missing three weeks,
Kate Cunningham got two votes. I could argue that Kate
Cunningham had a better season than Nicole Jokicic. So I
wonder if we're gonna get voter fatigue in the NBA
going forward with years to come, or if this is
gonna be as long as she's playing, as long as
Yokic is playing, unless someone else has just a that
much better of a year than them, if they're on

if Chase on the best team, if he's gonna win
MVP awards every year. The Western Conference the Eastern Conference
finals are fun in that a, you have the MVP
storyline Wenby Versha, you know, one and two or one
in three, I guess in terms of voting going head
to head against each other, and this is the matchup
we always want to see. We wanted to see could
the Spurs hang with the Thunder They beat him four
times during the regular season. Stefan Castle has kind of

been the X factor. They've stuck him on Shay the
entire series. And the one weakness Oklahoma City has they
give up threes in the corner. That is the one
weakness of their defense. They give up a lot of
corner threes, and the Spurs when they've won this year
have really taken advantage of it. Now a lot of
those matches for earlier on in the year. So I'm

curious if the Thunder come out and kind of establish
how good they are early with Jalen Williams back, or
if the Spurs really artists a bad matchup for him,
Like are they just a bad matchup for the for
the Thunder? A lot has been made up. Will the
series get ratings? I do think it will get ratings.
The Christmas Day game, you would think the biggest number

would be Lakers Rockets or someone like that, like that
was the match up on Christmas Day, We'll get the
biggest television ratings. It was actually Spurs and Thunder, which
is crazy because, say, Antonio small market at Oklahoma City
certainly as a small market, but I think you sign
up for seven games of really good basketball. And I'm
not gonna sit here and say that these two teams
are just gonna run the next decade in the West,

because I do think the Lakers are gonna have something
to say about that. I think Houston when they get
a point guard or something to say about that. And
as long as ant Man's there with Minnesota. If they
got a second star, they're always going to be a
player in Denver as well. But these happened the two
best teams all season, and I'm excited to see tonight.

other over these thirteen games, and that is a storyline

let's put everything in the result against the Dodgers, and
then there's been other periods of time where it's like,

let's put nothing into the Padres and the Dodgers, and
then sometimes somewhere in between, so it's almost like we're
all trying to figure out what it means. I think
Padres fans the Padres Dodgers fans the Dodgers in terms
of what this exact series means in the grand scheme,

thoughts on the San Diego Chargers, a kind of debunks

a look at the NBA playoffs, but Pottery's Dodgers. I mean,
it doesn't really get much better than this in terms
of just a just a baseball fan. I mean, these

are it's rare in baseball that we get its sighting
matchups that have playoff type feels on the eighteenth That
just doesn't usually happen. And I think both teams have
a lot to prove, especially in this series. Like we'll
start from the start from the Pottery's perspective, unbelievable, unbelievable
weekend for the pots I mean, you're sitting there, Gavin

Sheets looks like a damn superstar, and you sweep the Mariners.
I know they didn't have Cal Rawley, but that that's impressive.
That was an impressive, you know, sweep over the weekend
considering you're on the road in Seattle, and I was
nervous about this weekend for the Potterys and that you
have a massive series against the Dodgers. So I kind
of thought the Dodgers and the the the Potteries might

slip up over the weekend in kind of, you know,
looking ahead to this matchup today in these three games,
but they didn't. Both teams swept, and the Potteries are
a unique spot right now because you're sitting here. The
Big three did not play well over the weekend. In
maryl Tatisa Machado, the pitching was fantastic. I love what
you saw from Manny Vasquez Walker Buehler. I thought it

deserved a lot of credit for how he pitched over
the weekend, kind of got in some jams, but you know,
got a couple of people on, but never really never
really let the let the Mariners get any momentum. And
that's a good baseball team, Like I know, this year
they're not playing up to up to their up to par,
but that's a team that was in the ALCS last year.
You give him a lot of credit for being on
(02:24):
the road. But now we're gonna get a chance to
see this Pottery's team because over the last week excellent
series against the Mariners the Brewers, you left a lot
to be desired going one and two there. Gavin Sheets
had the one inning of amazing play, but besides that,
you kind of got punked in that series against Milwaukee.
Now you have the Dodgers. Now you have the team

that is back to back World Series champs. And from
the Pottery's perspective, they're looking at this as because a
lot of national pundits he going back to this doesn't
really matter what national punnits think, but a lot of
people have, especially nationally who might not be watching The
Potteris every night, or even people locally who watch The

Potteris every night, have kind of taken the Pottery's record
with a little bit of a grain of salt, a
little bit of a yeah, that's great, they're winning games,
but the Big three haven't done anything in their run
differessionals run differentials plus seven. They were had a negative
run differential going into that series against the Mariners. But

now you have a goal opportunity because this is the
the Pottery's Dodgers. Doesn't just attract Potter's and Dodger fans,
this attracts a national audience that people are going to
are going to to be tuning in for this, will
this will be on PTI Sports Center, will be covering
this at nauseum over the night. So you can talk
about a real opportunity to make a make a statement

that hey, you know, if the Potteris can't beat good teams,
they're here to stay in the NL. Because you did
against the Mariners. You lost series against the Cubs, lost
the series against the Brewers, won one game and both
of those series went over the Dodgers, I think would
change a lot of people's perception of the ceiling of
this team. And to beat the Dodgers, you're gonna have

to hit the baseball because it's one thing to beat
teams when Meryl, Machado and Tatis aren't playing very well,
but it's another to defeat the defending champs. So you
know we're gonna bring it. In terms of their kind
of pressure in this series, the Dodgers have not been
playing great baseball. Yes, they coming on a five game

winning streak. They destroyed the Angels over the weekend, won
the last two games against the Giants in their series
last week, but you know, two weekends ago they lost
against the Braves two or three games. They haven't always
been playing the best baseball. They lost the first two
games against the Giants. Shoey Otani until about last Tuesday
or Wednesday hadn't really been hitting the baseball well at all.

Kyle Tucker's having a really good month of May. They
just got Mookie Betts back, But it's kind of the
same old story with the Dodgers. The Dodgers are any
are inn a unique place as well, and some of
their star pitchers are hurt. Tyler glasnow back on the IL.
Blake Snell made one start against the Atlanta Braves, gave
up five runs, and now is back on the IL.
(05:14):
They're saying it's not serious. But we'll see Bruce ark Graderal,
a big bullpen arm that they were counting on to
come back, got some negative news in terms of an injury.
Jack Dryer just hit the il. Edwin Diaz is in
the middle a couple weeks into a three month long
stint because of loose bodies in his elbow. The star closer.
So the Dodgers, he feels like year in and year out.
(05:36):
Although they do have, if not the most talented team
in baseball, one of the most talented teams in baseball,
they have injury concerns. And maybe this is the Dodgers
doing the Hey, we're gonna bring Blake Snell along slowly
and we're gonna arrest all these guys for until the postseason.
But you do get concerned if you're the Dodgers of
(05:57):
Tyler Glasnew and Blake Snell both are injury prone pitch.
And it came it worked out last year because they
came back right in time for the postseason. But how
many times can you keep running it back? Because that
would be the one thing you looked at for the
Dodgers is they are kind of an older, older team,
like there's a lot of veteran. Mookie's in his thirties,
Show is in his thirties, Freddie Freeman's in his thirties,
(06:19):
ti Oscar Hernandez in his thirties, like a lot of
the big time talent on the team is in is
in the thirties. Now they have a pipeline full of
young talent. Jose de Paula looks like he's gonna come
up soon. Andy pot Has has arguably been the best
hitter on the team to the first two months of
the season, and Kyle Tucker's got it going. But the
Dodgers are also trying to prove that Hey, despite the
Cubs having a really good season, despite the Braves looking
(06:42):
like maybe the best team in baseball, the Yankees in
the Al are playing really well and they got the
Patres there. We're neck and neck with the NL West
that they're there to stay. So this this series is
gonna be really fun over the next three days. A
from from a San Diego perspective, but two from We're
gonna We're gonna see where these teams are at right
now because the doctors something, there are some question marks.

Because it's one thing they destroyed the Angels. You gotta
give them credit. They destroyed the Angels, but it also
is the Angels. So we'll see over the next three games.
I believe you have some Ken Rosenthal sound. Ken Rosenthal
not the most popular man in San Diego, but he
did have some nice things to say about the Padres.

I don't know that they're getting enough attention. They're one
of the most amazing stories in baseball right now. Why
are they amazing because look at the way this season

and Jackson Merrill would have ops's barely above six hundred,
that Fernando Tatis Junior would have no home runs, all
of this about a quarter of the way a little
bit more than that into the season. What would you
have thought. You would have thought the Padres probably were
in some trouble. They're not in trouble. They are one
of the best teams in the National.

So I agree with Ken Rosenthal. A lot of people,
you know, Ken Rosendal obviously has a shoppy history with
the with the city of San Diego, but he's right,
and kudos to Ken Rosendal forgive them. The Pottery is
a little bit of a credit because a lot of
national punits simply have not a lot of national punnits
have kind of with the Potterys. Yeah, I'll believe it

when I see it. And the Dodgers did something interesting
there in terms of pitching matchups. When you look at
this series, where do the Potterys have advantages? Where do
the Dodgers have advantages? The Potterys have advantages in the bullpen.
I think the Potter's bullpen is better than the Dodgers
when fully healthy, you could make an argument, but especially
with no m and Diaz, Jack Dryer hitting the il,

they are running through a lot of arms that Dodger bullpen. Yeah,
they do have Alex Vesia Edgardo and Henriquez is a
flamethrower but doesn't always have the best location. I think
There's bullpen has a big I would give that the
advantage to the Potters starting pitching rotation, not even close Dodgers. Now,
I do think the Potterys can hold up Michael King

going times is obviously no slouch. Michael King is a
very good pitcher. Griffin canning tomorrow feels like a big
start for him in terms of his first start was
good and his second star was a disaster last week
against Milwaukee, and then and then on Wednesday, Randy Vasquez
will be going. Randy Vasquez, I think he feels solid

about The Dodgers, though, were interesting, so originally show it
was always gonna be Oshanobemmodo against Michael King. Originally it
was supposed to be shoe Aotani going tomorrow and Emmett
Shehan going Wednesday. Now Emmit she In against Randy Vasquez
would probably be the one pitching matchup that you might
give an edge to the Potterys Shehn has been good
this year for the Dodgers, but Randy Vasquez has has

some more major League Baseball experience. I think you might,
especially at Pecko, give him the give him the nod.
But it is telling you something that the Dodgers are
lining up Otani a. It's kind of a testament to
how good Randy Vasquez has been. I think the Dodgers
looked at it as, yeah, we don't need to waste

showyos Honey against Griffin Canning. With all this, with all
respect to Griffin Canning, they're going Showo Tony against Griffin Canning.
We'll take our chances with Mshihan against Griffin Canning, and
we'll go up against Randy Vasquez, who we know has
some good games against the Dodgers, has had some really
good games against the Dodgers actually, and can give the
team a lot of length. And tonight's matchup, specifically, Yo
(10:35):
should Bmamoto has given up fifteen runs in his last
twenty four innings, so that is something that the Potteries
can build off of. Gm Momoto one of the best
pitchers in baseball. I mean, I'd say it. I had
one of the greatest pitching performances of all time in
that Game six in Game seven in the World Series.
The fact that he pitched through I believe a hundred
pitches and then came back into through two and two
(10:55):
thirds innings in Game seven was unbelievable type stuff. But
Gimamoto has struggled a little bit in the last few addings.
In fact, that Giants game last week where he started
the eight to nine hitters for the Giants had three
home runs off him, so he's been a little bit
prone to the long ball this year. And when show
Ay in Yamamoto pitch, the Dodters also having given them

much run support. I don't put a lot of stock
into run support because it just can flip on any
given night. You would take a good pitcher and assuming
that your team can get it together. But that has
kind of been the case of the Dodgers. I don't
know if it's a case of the Dodgers feel like
Yamamoto and show Ay pitching that they feel like they
can just kind of go out there and you know,

kind of run slug their way through the game and
hope that they can squeeze over a couple runs. And
they don't have the same mindset that they would have
of a Rokie Sasaki pitching, a guy who struggled this
year for the Dodgers did have a good start yesterday.
But this feels like a real opportunity because Yamamoto has
been suceptible to the long ball a little bit this year.

those three had a terrible weekend, and it it goes

now for the Pods, but Gavin Sheets ideally is your
fourth or fifth or sixth best hitter because you're paying Merril,
Machado and Tatis to be those guys. And in a
series he's against a Mariner team where I want to
give them credit because they deserve a lot of credit

for sweeping the Mariners, but a Marin team missing cal
Rawley in the Mariners kind of struggling this year. It's
easy for the Pods to squeeze through without the Big
three performing. But on the other side of that, you
got to figure against the Dodgers, you are gonna have
to have a moment from one of those three Texas

is what Eli man he had to say on Busting

I just didn't feel like they were the most committed
team to winning at the time. Marty Schottenheimer was the
head coach, who was awesome, had great respect for him.
But like they came to work me out in New Orleans,
went to dinner, and like there was this friction between
you know, the head coach, general manager, like the owners.

They're all like.

Yelling, kind of like fighting. We're at a Marriotte like
restaurant and you know, Schottenheimer's mad that were He's like,
we're in New Orleans reading now a Marriott and you know,
so he's like pissed. They're like kind of just bickering,
and it just seemed didn't seem like there was a
whole lot of like agreement on things and like they
were kind of like committed to building a great winning
franchise at that moment. My parents really weren't supportive.

My dad didn't like the idea.

He came to my defense and like supported me after
everything was going down, but a lot of he didn't
like that you were kind of demanding, I don't want
to go to Sandy, right. Yeah, she didn't like. He
didn't like that, and afterwards he took like a blunt
of a lot of the criticism because he kind of
came to my defense and you know, people are saying, oh,
you played in New Orleans all those years, you didn't win,
so you're trying to dictate like where your son's going.

He's and and he just kind of, you know, bit
his tongue and said, I'm just you know, like this
is what he wants to do, and I support him.
And he kind of did some media to try to
save me from doing all the media and taking the hits.

I know this doesn't need to be said, but it
is such a disappointment when like what's gonna happen in
the next few days, the Potter's and Dodgers, this is
going to be sold out. It's going to be unbelievable event,
and San Diego will be We'll be on the national
stage because the Dodgers are in town. The Potter's are
a damn good baseball team themselves, and this NS rivalry

has become become a rivalry in sports that people look
to who aren't Pottery's fans and who aren't Dodger fans.
And when you hear that story from Eli Manning about
Dean Spanos and realizing that one guy could really mess
it up for a whole city. It's just it's frustrating.
I mean, like, think of what the Chargers did. The Chargers,

Marty Schottenheimer won fourteen games, fourteen to two, and they
fired him, Like the Chargers are. We're in no position
ever to be firing coaches after fourteen wins. Like the
Steelers in the seventies. Okay, they won a bunch of games.
The Cowboys in the nineties, all right, because they were
winning Super Bowl something, right, But the Chargers, No, the
Chargers did not deserve the ability to be doing that.

And you hear that story from Eli in the way
he say it took him to a Marriott and they're
in New Orleans and that's what made him want to
not go to San Diego. Hey, it's disappointing. It's embarrassing
from Dean Spanos. And I'm curious why this comes out
now because it was for years Archie's fault. That was

kind of the narrative. It was Archie's fault. Archie was
the Archie was dictating Eli's career, was dictating where he
was going to go, budding into it. If he hadn't
been there, people would have, you know, thought he would
have just went to San Diego and come to find
out that that that's not the case. It's pretty crazy.
I wonder if it would have been different. Like we

look at that draft class in Philip Rivers and Ben
Roethlisberger and Eli Manning, and it's a tough conversation we've
had for many years here in San Diego. I personally
believe Philip Rivers is a Hall of Famer. I'm not
even just saying that for San Diego audience, I really do.
I know he never won a Super Bowl, but can
make the argument that you make the argument that Philip
(18:28):
Rivers was the most talented quarterback of those three. Now,
Eli had the moments. Eli had the you took down
the dynasty, you took down maybe the greatest team ever
in the New England Patriots, and he did it twice.
He kept Tom Brady having nine super Bowls himself nine
super Bowls. But the flip side of that was he
had Michael Strahan, you had Justin Tuck, he had Steve Spagnola.

You know, you had some some you know, Mario Manninghan,
Victor Cruz. Mean, there was a lot of talent on
those teams. Teaky Barber for for some of those teams,
and they had big Ben. Big Ben won two Super
You could make the case that big Ben maybe didn't
live up to what he could have been. I mean,
he had ab in his prime, he had let me
On Balanus Prime, r Tapis, Briant and Juju. Those offenses

were some of the cold could rival the greatest show
on turf and in a lot of uh, you know,
a lot of eras. And he did win two Super
Bowls San Antonio Holmes catch and and you know, had
had a couple couple appearances. So there's a lot of credit.
But you know, it is crazy you look back at
that draft class and it what doesn't mean for this year?
I mean I fleshed and I were talking about it earlier.

I wonder why now, Like why does that come out now?
Charges are in La. Chargers have a quarterback Snile He
Chargers are looking for a quarterback where this would make
more sense with you know, maybe the draft process for
next year. But the one thing I can think of,
and I'm not a conspiracy theorist, not that guy, but
Arch Manning is coming out here in what when's the

NFL draft? Ten months? Eleven months? Arch Manning's coming out here.
Arch Manning could have could have came out this year,
probably been the second quarterback, taking buying Fernanda Mendoza. He
didn't have a great start to the year, but certainly
turned it on late in that game against Michigan. But
Arch Manning, and I said this earlier, I don't want
to I don't want to compare arch Manning and Dante

more than these guys to Eli and Philip Rivers and
Ben Roethlisberger, because those guys are Hall of famers, some
of the great quarterbacks we've seen, certainly over the last
twenty five years. But we're all looking at a draft
class next year with arch Manning, Dante Moore, Maava from
SC You got saying the local kid from from from
Ohio State, CJ. Carr from Notre Dame. This supposed to

be a loaded draft class next year. And the timing
is really interesting. Why you would say this now, because
I'm not saying it's going to happen again with arch Manning,
but it does. If it were to happen again. The
last thing I'm sure the Manning family would want, is
it all pointing back to Archie again, is for Archie
to get more of than blame. And it's it's kind

of interesting it took this long for Eli to come
out and say that it wasn't you know, it wasn't
It wasn't Archie because people people crushed Archie Manning. Archie
Manning didn knew its a ton of public appearances for
years because he was getting just destroyed in the media,
certainly here in San Diego. Rightfully so, because that's what
that's what we all thought. We thought that that's why
Eli Manning wasn't a Charger. But it was interesting hearing that.

It's it's, you know, just more evidence of Dean Spanos
being Dean Spanos seven and six. So thank you for
reminding me of the Spanos family or a bunch of
bleeping clowns. I don't hate the Chargers, I just hate
the owners. It is. It is disappointing because, like you
show the way he treated potential number one overall pick
I mean, then he certainly reflected that on the way
he treated the fans in this city. All right. Coming

some massive lead of the division. But it does feel
like statements for both teams. And Dave Roberts said last week,
and I think it was kind of taking a little
bit out of context because the Dodgers had lost the
first two games against the San Francisco Giants. He said
that that, you know, he wasn't really worried too much
about the Potteris. He was asked about the question about
the Potterys were were kind of gaining on the Dodgers.

Were they worried about it? He said, they weren't, you know,
they weren't worried of Potterys. But and again I think
it was a little taken out of context. He's like,
we're not playing them right now, and then proceeded to
give flowers to the Potterys. But ney of these seems
like each other, and the Potterys have had certainly had opportunities.
Like people think of Revision's history when we get into
(23:07):
the Dodgers a little bit of the last two World
Series titles, the Dodters have earned them, and I'm not
taking anything away from them, but the Dodgers haven't exactly
just blown the doors off everyone. This has not been
an ok C run so far this year where they're
eight to oher and they haven't really ever been challenged
in the series. I mean, let's go back, let's go
(23:28):
back two years the you know, we all remember the
Faithful couple nights when the Pottery's had the ability. One
of the biggest moments in supports history for the potteris
you beat him in twenty twenty two and then you
have him at game at home, Game four with the
shot to win and through dyalanc East on Shore arrest
and the rest is history. Dodgers end up, you know,
winning by blowout in that game and then win two
(23:49):
to oher up in LA. But that was the point.
I mean that the Potter's I remember opened up that
game four in the morning as World Series favorites, and
it was kind of crazy just seeing the po the
a top the odds there and Worlds areaes. Odds don't
mean anything as as evidence, but the Potteries had a
real shot, and I think a lot of people in
San Diego, I think we all feel like, ah, man,
(24:10):
that was that was a golden opportunity that was missed.
But then we even go back last year, I mean,
the there's been this thing that the Dodgers just run
away with things in the in the regular season, and
that hasn't been the case. I mean, the Dodgers have
went back to back ninety win seasons. They probably could
have won one hundred and ten games, but it goes
back to they they've rested a lot of pitchers last year.

Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell were on the IL for
large portions of the season. Roki Zusaki was in the
IL for a large portion of the season. Came back.
It was essentially their their star closer for them in
the postseason run. Same thing's happening this year, Tyler Glasnow
and Blake Snell.

They try to bring Blake Snell back a couple weeks ago,
but he's back on the il. So is this the
Dodge positioning for the future or is there actual some
actual concern because Blake Snell and Tyler Glassnew have been
injury prone pieces for the Dodge. But last year we
go back to August, the division was completely up in
the air and it was the dot The Pottery's played
(25:07):
up in LA for that three game set the weekend
before and over and then the following weekend they played
at Pickle Park. And then in the middle of that
you had Mason Miller in that trade headline where the
Potteri's acquired everybody, and there was that real buzz around
the team, but they were all right there. The Pottery's
in fact led the division for a cup of coffee
(25:28):
there and if we remember, the Dodgers swept the Potterys
over the weekend. Maney machadod and talked to the media
after there's a lot of drama to the potter To
be fair of the Potter's they won two or three
games the following weekend, but they lost so many games
to the Dodgers that when they lost that Sunday game,
they lost a tiebreaker, and therefore the division was kind
of lost. So, right, you can chalk it up to
(25:48):
a May matchup, but it feels a lot bigger than that,
because the Pottery is trying to prove they belong. They're
trying to prove that they are a legit team. Because
we kind of got into a little bit earlier at
the top of the show, I think there is a
lot of skeps are like, yeah, but they're plus seven
and run differential. Yeah, And there's there's multiple ways to
look at that, Like you can look at it. The
pessimistic way to look at it is the Stars aren't
(26:09):
doing anything. They're living off the margins and they're barely
winning these games. Not about the Marritors, but they're barely
winning a lot of these games. That's the pessimistic way
to look at it. The optimistic way to look at
it is they're doing They're They're winning all these games
without any of that stuff happening, without Meryl playing good baseball,
without Tatis hitting a home roun with Machado having an
(26:29):
atrocious batting average and without Nick Pivetta, without Joe Muskroll,
without a lot of your core pieces, which has has
been a which again, if you would have told a
lot of people that Muskrove wore not have pitched Paveta
with a missignificant time, Merrill and Machado and Tatis would
(26:50):
have the numbers they had, I think people would have
been like, oh, the Potteries are fourth in the division.
They're They're they're literally disaster of a record. And Gavin
Sheets and Miguel Andaharn Luis Caisano despite being an injured
right now, and the pitching staff has been phenomenal. I
think they've been the unsung heroes. Michael King has really
elevated his game. Brandy Vasquez we heard so much in
spring training about him kind of growing in his game.
(27:13):
And it's great in spring training when when guys have
good spring trainings, but it doesn't always mean anything, and
that has really translated to the regular season here. And
Lucas Gielita last night was unreal. That was fantastic. I know,
we got the base loaded there in the fist six innings,
something like that, but probably Sam had probably left him
in a little too long. I know there was some
concerns last night about gie Leo's fastball was down the
(27:35):
ninety one ninety two mile prour instead of it being
ninety four ninety five, and that's fair. We'll see as
he goes. It goes on if his you know, if
he's had successful starts. But I'm excited about this series.
I do think Giolito again is an option, is better
than better than her Ma Marquez, better than a lot
of guys. And if Giolito again is ideally if you're
(27:57):
the potres, he's not the number one starter even now,
Michael King's the number one starter and Fasquez the two
you're ideally hoping if everything goes according to play. Pa
Veta comes back at some point all Star Break we're hearing,
Muscove comes back at some point with the All Star
Game we're hearing, and then gi Alito and Michael King
and Randy Vascus is a collection of guys that you
can really really throw there. So I'm this series is
(28:20):
a big deal. If it means a lot to both teams.
It's fun with the rivalry, and that gets to the
I love that the Potterys and Dodgers. Maybe not the
players as much because we see Mookie Betts having every
player on his podcast. They're just chumming it up like
they're best friends. But it's fun, especially to sport like
baseball where you lack the The NFL just creates rivalries
(28:44):
because it's so a game by game basis. Even two
teams that never play each other, two teams may really
need the game, so it creates that kind of resentment
and that anger. It's just a physical sport. You're literally
tackling grow men. You're going to going to want to
get some get back. But baseball, when you know, we
all love baseball, but it's it's a it's a long season,
and it's it's kind of always big picture topics. It's
(29:08):
fun when you get a series in May of two
teams that actually despise each other, really don't like each other,
and hopefully that comes out in the elevated sense of
play tonight. I'm excited for these games, can't wait for them,
and we'll be getting full breakdowns on this show and

on the NBA before Shaeffer and sleeve. We've got the
Western Conference Finals in the Eastern Conference Finals set. We

got Spurs and timber or not timber Old Spurs and
Thunder tonight, and then we got the Calves and the
Knicks tomorrow. Kind of lacklesser games of the weekend in
terms of they were all blowouts. The Timberwolves got blown out,
Anthony Edwards ran out. If you saw that Anthony Edwards
left the game with eight minutes ago, was dabbing up
the Spurs players basically conceding that the game was over.

And I know that that was kind of a kind
of a hot topic today people frustrated, but the kind
of story that got buried a little bit. They won
MVP rightfully, so I don't have too many problems with that.
I am Carrie's going forward though. So when you look
at the breakdown of who got votes, so Jokic actually
got the second amount of first place votes, So Shay
(30:14):
got eighty three, Jokic got ten when he got five,
Luca got zero, Kay Cunningham got two, and Jalen Brown
got zero himself. Now, I'm a Laker fan. I'm not
gonna sit here and have outraged that Luca didn't get
a vote. He got hurt for the last month of
the last three weeks of the season, and to the
(30:35):
Thunder's credit, they whooped up on the Lakers, and when
the Lakers were fifteen to two heading into April that
fateful night where Reeves got hurt and Luca got hurt,
they could have done something if if the Lakers would
have won that game, I think the MVP conversation would
have become a real discussion there. My problem with the
MVP voting is it's supposed to be the most valuable

player that year, and like you can make a like
Kay Cunningham got hurt the last couple weeks of season
as well, he got two votes. I would take Luco
over k Cunningham. That's just me. But it is funny,
So Shay one back to back MVPs won eighty three votes. Jokic.
I can't believe Jokic got ten votes to Wenby's five.
I mean, Wenby, I get it. Some of the underlying metrics.

He played less minutes, took less shots than a lot
of people. He played the fewest minutes of anyone in
the MVP conversation, But in the NBA it's funny it's
kind of the opposite sometimes how we get voter fatigue
in the NFL, Like it's hard for NFL quarterbacks. It's
really a quarterback award to win back to back MVPs.
People get tired of the same players, unless you're that

much better than everyone, unless Lamar Jackson really is the
best quarterback by a mile. If it's close, it's probably
going to the next best guy, the new quarterback on
the block. That's why, like Kayleb Williams the favorite this year,
Jayane Daniels has good odds because you're kind of looking
for that next big thing. I don't I don't think
the vote is want to just keep giving it to
Mahomes or Alan or Lamar every single season. The NBA

is funny how Sga now went back to back, not
hating on it. He's on the best team, best record,
the favorite to win the championship. And Jokic though, like
Jokic missed a significant portion of the season in the
in the middle of the season, like a month, a
month and a half, and it's funny how he kind
of gets rowed in as gets to getting ten votes,

like Luca didn't get the same thing for missing three weeks,
Kate Cunningham got two votes. I could argue that Kate
Cunningham had a better season than Nicole Jokicic. So I
wonder if we're gonna get voter fatigue in the NBA
going forward with years to come, or if this is
gonna be as long as she's playing, as long as
Yokic is playing, unless someone else has just a that
much better of a year than them, if they're on

if Chase on the best team, if he's gonna win
MVP awards every year. The Western Conference the Eastern Conference
finals are fun in that a, you have the MVP
storyline Wenby Versha, you know, one and two or one
in three, I guess in terms of voting going head
to head against each other, and this is the matchup
we always want to see. We wanted to see could
the Spurs hang with the Thunder They beat him four
times during the regular season. Stefan Castle has kind of
(33:08):
been the X factor. They've stuck him on Shay the
entire series. And the one weakness Oklahoma City has they
give up threes in the corner. That is the one
weakness of their defense. They give up a lot of
corner threes, and the Spurs when they've won this year
have really taken advantage of it. Now a lot of
those matches for earlier on in the year. So I'm
(33:29):
curious if the Thunder come out and kind of establish
how good they are early with Jalen Williams back, or
if the Spurs really artists a bad matchup for him,
Like are they just a bad matchup for the for
the Thunder? A lot has been made up. Will the
series get ratings? I do think it will get ratings.
The Christmas Day game, you would think the biggest number

would be Lakers Rockets or someone like that, like that
was the match up on Christmas Day, We'll get the
biggest television ratings. It was actually Spurs and Thunder, which
is crazy because, say, Antonio small market at Oklahoma City
certainly as a small market, but I think you sign
up for seven games of really good basketball. And I'm
not gonna sit here and say that these two teams
are just gonna run the next decade in the West,
(34:11):
because I do think the Lakers are gonna have something
to say about that. I think Houston when they get
a point guard or something to say about that. And
as long as ant Man's there with Minnesota. If they
got a second star, they're always going to be a
player in Denver as well. But these happened the two
best teams all season, and I'm excited to see tonight.
I mean, I think this series will be a seven
game series. Tonight's gonna tell us a lot because the

thunder them is sitting line and wait for a week.
They're well rested. But Minnesota also got destroyed by this
first team in the last couple of games of the series.
Gonna tell us a lot in the NBA tonight. Excited
to watch that, Excited to watch Pottery's Dodgers, and a
lot on the television tonight. In terms of the sports
world coming up next, Schaeffer and Slee hopping on with

Yeah TV appearance like that. He had had a three
piece suit. I think it was all all our money.
It was very similar to what Harry Riley used to
have back in like the age. It was only a
sports code. I actually don't currently own a suit. That's
I got I got on TV. Now maybe you gotta.
I got a couple of sports codes, you know. But
that's okay, that's that's a good California.

Here has also been on Spectrum sports and everybody. I
have not been on television like that ever. I was
on the news a couple of times a kid. Okay,
it rained. Once they put me on the news. I
was playing the rain was it was a squirrel. Yeah,

it's a little different right now. But how much time
are you guys in the makeup chair? What how?
Speaker 5 (36:48):
I mean maybe when you were doing it? Is there
any I mean I just walked in. There wasn't much
makeup for me. Spectrum you get some makeup, is there?
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Okay? So they got like their own makeup room. That's
pretty okay.
Speaker 6 (36:59):
Doesn't take very long, takes uh you know, probably about
three four minutes and then you're on your way and
then you're.

Just layered with makeup.

But there was some touch ups and touch which is
not the most comfortable thing in the world. And the
first thing everybody does when it's done, they got the
like the you know, the wet the wet uh boss, Yeah,
and you just rub it all off.

Your face and then you go about your day.
Speaker 5 (37:23):
TV is an interesting beast in that regard, because every
day you need to be concerned about, oh, what shoes
am I wearing?
Speaker 2 (37:29):
What suit am I wearing? How's my hair?
Speaker 3 (37:31):
Like?
Speaker 5 (37:31):
Seriously, Like this is part of the preparation for a
television show where it's not to say we all walk
in flip flops.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
But obviously in radio it's very easy you pull the
band pleasure where you just wear Hawaiian shirts.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
I mean, you put a hat on, you put a
T shirt on, you know, and you're.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Good to go.

How is it? How?
Speaker 2 (37:46):
What's the biggest difference are you? Like when you're sitting
in front of the thinking about like why different? The
thing is me and Alan and you're the same Sammy, you,
You and I. Alan have spent so much time in
front of cameras now with whether it's radio shows or
YouTube showtubeyeah, So there is that familiarity, but it's still
different being in like a news set or whatever studio
on television.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
I still think, I think the reason why and I
don't know how you guys feel, but I gravitate towards
radio because you just take your time to shoot the
you know what, TV everything is so it's tight. It's
a script two minutes here, we sit on here for
fifteen minutes talking about nothing, and nobody's gonna complain.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
So it's like it's.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Just it's so different, so true.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
We gotta we got a fund three days here Pecko Park,
that's happening. I was thinking, like, what is the Rodeo
the Rodeo it's gonna do bigger numbers, Potter's Dodgers the Rodeo. Like,
where does the Pottery's Dodgers stack in terms of a
rivalry in terms in terms of sports, because I think
in Major League Baseball, if you want to give Red
Sox Yankees because it's the historic, it's the like, that's fine.
(38:52):
I got prom with that. Like outside of that, like,
is there is there a bigger rivalry in Major League Baseball?
I mean, what do you say?
Speaker 5 (39:00):
I mean Coubbs Cardinals have Cardinals seventy five year deal.
That's Giants Dodgers goes back to New York City. But
I would say the modern version.
Speaker 6 (39:08):
Yeah, I was gonna say, you know, I think the
question is is the question is, let's say right now
you put two logos up against each other of just
facing each other today. Yeah, that's probably the more fair question.
I agree, because there's historic rivalries everywhere. Yeah, I think
of the two, I mean, you know, here's the question.
I don't know what does it mean to La Because

to San Diego, obviously it means one thing. It probably
doesn't have the same feeling from Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Now, granted, I.

Will tell you if there's ever a time that the
Dodgers and the Padres have some history, like this is
the time the Giants and the Dodgers. If I'm correct
on this, they still have never faced each other in
the posts.

I finally, did you know twenty one? Yeah? Seven?
Speaker 5 (39:53):
The other one that was the that was the they
played the best of five.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
They played and it went five, Yes, and the Dodgers
and there was the check switch. And the record between
two teams is like literally identical as of last week.
Oh they went to the loss. The Giants Dodgers against
head to head is like identical.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (40:13):
I mean listen, I told John about this, and I'm
gonna probably be just so boring when I talk about
this series. And maybe because I'm more strategic on this,
but like I think for San Diego we've made way.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Too big of a deal.
Speaker 6 (40:28):
I agree with that when you match up against the Dodgers,
I agree, and I think that's hurts San Diego.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
I really do. I see what you're saying. With that
in terms of it can't be the quote super Bowl
World Series to beat the Dodgers in a set, because
when the when the Patters beat the Dodgers in twenty
twenty two, you kind of thought it elevated to a
level of like, Okay, you actually slayed the dragon, you
finally beat them when it actually mattered. Now it's about
a world series title, and I would agree with you
(40:54):
on that. I do think sometimes the focus on La
has been a little detrimentals of the team.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
Here's that I would because here's the thing. It is
also may so like you could sweep this series, you
could get swept in this series. How much of that
is really resonating or impacting October if the two teams
are in October.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
Now, maybe it does.
Speaker 5 (41:14):
Maybe maybe one team goes ten and three against the
other over these thirteen games, and that is a storyline
if they square off. But there's so much baseball to
be played. And I also think this, over the course
of this recent history between Padres Dodgers, it's almost been
full circle. There have been periods of time where everyone's like,
let's put everything in the result against the Dodgers, and
then there's been other periods of time where it's like,
(41:35):
let's put nothing into the Padres and the Dodgers, and
then sometimes somewhere in between, so it's almost like we're
all trying to figure out what it means. I think
Padres fans the Padres Dodgers fans the Dodgers in terms
of what this exact series means in the grand scheme,
and that's debatable.

Probably wish was that coming up on the show today,
