before SDFC takes on Vancouver, and then of course Shaffer

So reacting last night's game, not a great performance in
the Potters in a four to er loss. Look, I

think the most disappointing part about that game. We'll get
to the tatist piece in a minute, was when I
came out here yesterday, it was it felt like a
really important game in that you won game one one zero.
De serve a lot of credit for I'm not taking
anything away from the Potterys for how they performed. Michael
King was exceptional in that game, went outing, But you know,

you can't. It's hard to expect that you're gonna be
able to be winning ball games against the Dodgers in
the laite level competition one zero in the future. It's
great that you have the ability to do that. You
have the bullpen and starting pitching staff where you can.
But against a team they can hit like the Dodgers,
against a team they can hit like the Cubs or
the Phillies, or a team like that of the Yankees,
you guys to the World Series. You're not beating them

one zero. So then game two we didn't come out
here and cross the Potter's Yesterday. I thought Game two
was was a hard fought game. Pottery's missed a couple opportunities,
had that ground rule double, which could have definitely changed
the game. The throwing air for Mason Miller. You know,
who knows what happens if the Dodgers don't score, there
goes to extras and who knows. Yesterday was disappointing though,

because with a pitcher like Shoyotani, you're not going to
have too many opportunities throughout a game where he is
going to make mistakes. It'll happen, It'll happen at some point.
But when that happens, you have to take advantage of it,
and you have to, at least with Shoyotani, you have to.

least run his pitch count up, especially considering the Dodgers
are very careful with how they throw Shohotani because they
know he's the franchise. He's our best hitter on the team,

the Patres in the game like they didn't really, they

one run in the first inning, they left a couple
on base in the second despite scoring one run. They
totally they lost seven as a whole in terms of
seven left on base. I mean, the Dodgers were leaving
this game open. And then it leads us to the

shot to do something. I was at the game last night.
Place was going crazy feeling like this was this was
a real opportunity for Fernando to uh to to you know,
to make his imprint and kind of rewrite the last
couple of months of the season because anytime it's against
the Dodgers we've been talking about all week, it feels
like a bigger matchup because it is a bigger matchup.
I mean, the Dodgers, no matter what Dodger fans or

the Dodgers want to say, they look at the Potres
differently because if they didn't Shootani would not have been
hitting last night. Because for the rest of this, so
far into the season, Shoeyotani when he's pitch hasn't been hitting.
And that's what the Dodgers think. All of the San
Diego Potters, they want to beat him, and they want
to they want to have an imprint, but to score
zero runs too, despite being in the game, like it felt,

it felt like they were never in the game, even
though they never really got away from him. It was
just it was disappointing. It was a bummer performance Tatis.
It was his home to come through, and then no
one's talking about Manny Machado because Mandy Machado had had

pay these guys to be the franchise and to come

that Freddy for me would get on bass, Bryce Johnson

In terms of Tatis, we asked the question earlier, would
you trade Tatis? Would you put him on the IL?

they can afford him because of the money they're able
to pay, and they have the kind of talent pooled
in their farm system that the potteris could take everything.

showing you they're pretty damn good around the big three

like they're playing pretty good baseball. The starting pitching staff
has been exceptional. When Nick Poveda and Joe Muscrove hurt,

Guys like Gavin Sheets and Miguelandahar are playing well. Now.

is something to be said of, hey, we've we've done
all we could with this trio of Merril, Machado and

My zero clue what his vision is. But Max Munsey

What are you getting back if you trade Tatis? Now,
who's taking that salary for a player who is a
shell of his best self? That's where A five A

trading for Fernando Tatis because you're not gonna take that
contract for a guy who you don't know if he's
ever gonna get back to his former self. Obviously, the
Dodgers are off the table because you would never trade
to the Dodgers. But a team like the Yankees, a
team like the Mets, a team like one of these
teams that has the capability where they have a massive payroll,

they could take on that salary and not We've talked
that nauseum about the the the not not having a
salary cap in Major League Baseball, and and they could
take that on and eat it and slide him into
that that that rotation or not rotation, but that the order.
But to the point of what are you getting back,
you're certainly not getting back what you thought you could

have got a year or two ago. So to that end,
to if I's point, it does feel like if you believe,
if the Potterys believe that fran Ao Tatis is never
gonna reach be a the player he once was, then
they got to trade him because it's only gonna get
worse in terms of value if they believe that he
could like this is just a prolonged slump where he's

in his head. He's hitting the ball hard, but it's
just it's not working out for whatever reason. Trading him
now would be would be dumb because you're not gonna
get the same kind of value. And then if you're
a J preller, who you know the new ownership is
going to be looking at get their people in place.
If you're aj preller, if you trade Frano Tatis and
he looked great, and the pinstribes with the Yankees or

some other team, if it's fair or not, he's getting
fired on the spot, like it's just it's just it's
gonna happen. They're gonna point to you got rid of

All these guys are out. If they trade Tatis and

you have got him back to what he was with

let's let's get more teams in the playoffs. This is great.

I get college football and college basketball are trying to

keep up. They're trying to make more money. College basketball,
the expansion really only affects the tournament. You're gonna get
more games on the Monday, on the Tuesday, and Wednesday
before the tournament actually starts. I'm against that. I just
think that college basketball the problem it has is someone
who watches the Aspects every night as an alum like it.
The assets have been on the cut line, so every

game has really mattered to us here in San Diego.
College basketball most people start tuning in around February like that,
because it just it lacks so much urgency. If you're
a duke, if you're Kansas, if you're North Carolina, if
you're one of these cools, the chances of you missing
the tournament are very very slim. So you know, I
just think I think it creates less less uh less

on the regular season. In terms of college football, I'm
for an expansion twenty four fields accessive to me because
I don't think there's twenty four teams that can win
national championship. I am for it's at twelve. Now. If
you're gonna have the one for a non Power four team,
that's fine. But let's not sit here and pretend like

the non power four team is competitive. It's it's inclusive
to schools to make sure that they have a shot
if you're not in one of the powerfour conferences. But
I'm sorry, James Madison is not on the level like
of Oregon. They played them last year. It's not even
a competitive game. It was at twelve last year. If
it had been sixteen last year, we would have added
Texas to the mix with arch Manning, would have added Vanderbilt, Diego, Pavia,

USC would have got in, and we would have had
Notre Dame. We would have had the Notre Dame Miami debate.
This kind of went away because everyone forgot the fact
that Miami went on the run to the national championship game.
It went the whole debate that we had for weeks
was should Miami or Notre Dame get in? Notre Dame
didn't plan a conference championship game, neither did Miami because

we'd with how they acc works and who should have
got in the fact that Miami went all the way
kind of quieted the fact that they shouldn't have been in.
But it would have been fun to see Notre Dame
in there. Twenty four feels a little excessive because what
I'm talking about with college basketball and it's diminishing a
little bit of the regular season. Look, I'm still gonna watch.
I'm a massive college football fan, love college football. Twenty

four teams does feel like you're allowing a lot in
I think the perfect number is sixteen. I'm with the SEC.
I think sixteen allows either still some big time programs
that are getting left out, will create more competition at
the top of the top of the bracket and more
chances for upsets, so you don't have you know, your
your top tier programs, Ohio States, Alabama just kind of

running through everyone like it used to be when it
was a fourteen playoff. They had to get to the
playoff for the four teams. They the number one seed
would win one game against a subpar maybe Oklahoma team
at the four spot, and then have to win the
national championship game. I liked that the playoff is expanding,
that it's going to create more competition and it harder
to get to the national championship game, and we're getting
(20:03):
some big time matchups. But twenty four feels like a
little bit too much. Now. I know in this proposal,
you're getting rid of conference championship games. You would be
adding five weeks to the regular season. The first eight
teams I believe get buys, and then teams nine through
sixteen would host teams seventeen through twenty four on their
home campus, So that would add a fun aspect of

it that, hey, you're still you know, if you're the
number two team in the country and you know you're
gonna be in the twenty four team playoff, there still
is a lot to a lot to play for in
terms of winning, because you want to make sure you
get that buy or you at least want to make
sure you get a home playoff game. But twenty four
feels a little bit too much for me, And like,
how long is the playoff going to go? Because they're
(20:46):
talking about adding weeks. I think the only way this
works is if you cut off some of the regular
season because like, I'm sorry, I don't want to see
Alabama play Northwest Missouri State like that. That to me
is just no one needs to see that. Look, I
get the small schools getting chipped out a couple of
million dollars to get absolutely destroyed by sixty points. I
don't need to see a game where the spread is

north of forty, Like that's just ridiculous to me. So
I think you could work it in there, but it
is a tricky situation, and the big ten sec are
certainly gonna have to agree because those are the two
most powerful conferences in the sport. I'm curious what they
end up on if they split the difference in the
middle at twenty or if they just keep it at twelve.

Man, Yeah, how are you good to be here?
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Doing good? Man? Doing good man? Thank you for thank
you for hopping on. So I'm curious. I know, I
know you came from you know, you're acquired last year,
last July, and you're played in Spain. What has that
been like? Look? What has been a just like a
kind of cultural adjustment? And then number two, what does
that look like in terms of you know, obviously soccer
is the biggest sport over there, in Spain. How have
(22:21):
you seen the kind of difference in the fans between
Spain and over here in San Diego.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah, I think the especially being American in Brazilian, I
think the culture change, especially to Spain was pretty easy
and I love it. Coming back to the States was
a little bit weird. I'd say, uh, the cultural the
cultural differences are pretty big from Spain to you, so
it was it was a little bit hard adjusting back
to here. But I'm very grateful that I get to
be back here in the United States where I was born.
And then I'd say for the fans Spain, I think
(22:50):
it's a little bit more they they live and die
for the sport. I think here in the US we
still have a very diversified a group of fans, especially
we have basketball, American football, and baseball. So it's it's
a little bit less liver or die. But the sport
is growing a lot here and we can see that
every single.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Day, one hundred percent. They So the offense has certainly
woke up the last couple of weeks, you know, against
Austin five goals three last, you know, last week in Cincinnati.
What do you think has been the biggest change because
they during that little slump, it felt like the offense
was kind of lacking something. What has been the biggest difference.
Has it been a game plan thing or just guys
stepping up?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
No, I think it's it's just guys stepping up. Like
you said, it's guys taking risks. When they have the
opportunity to shoot, we shoot, and I do only have
to just keep trying to get that goal. And I
actually eight goals in the last two game shows that
there's guys taking taking steps and showing that they want
to be their protagonist.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
What do you so the World Cup? We actually had
TJ Desandos on our earlier today and I'm curious, like
you was kind of talking about the World Cup. He
gets like, there's World Cup roster, but the World Cup
break is so unique this year with the MLS and
that there is kind of a large break throughout the season.
Do you guys approach this differently, Like is there more
of a hard press on know than that you guys
are going to get some off time and coming up
(24:01):
here in a few weeks.

Yeah, I know, we have a couple of weeks off
and it's just a time to recharge and we're gonna
have a longer preseason than we actually did at the
beginning of this season, so it'll be a good time
to work on our game plan actually and continue working
on those tactics that may have not been at the
one hundred percent for this first half of the season.
So it's it's just a little tiny little break to
recharge and then attack the second half of the season

with everything.

What do you what do you see in what do
you see in Vancouver? The you know, White Cats have
been kind of a perennial good team here in the MLS.
What what see the kind of casual fan look for
in this matchup coming up?
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Yeah, the Vancouver white Caps are obviously one of the
strongest teams right now in the MLS. Last year they
got to the final and and we still have a
little bit of of hurt because we got knocked out
by them in the conference final, the Western Conference final
last year. So we're going into this game with a
little bit of the painful last year and we're gonna
give it everything to to do what we couldn't do
last year.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Well, you kind of mentioned it the kind of personal
game back when you're when you're facing Vancouver, Like, how
does that that work? Because last year you guys were
kind of, you know, I know you got acquired half
through the year, but it was kind of Stu seems
just a great story kind of playing that underdog role
and then the fact that you guys went to Western
Conference Finals. It feels like it's kind of flip where
you guys went from being the the hunters to the hunted.
(25:20):
Is it kind of a unique flip and that now
you guys are kind of, you know, want of your
get back against this team. But do you think teams
approach and play you guys differently than the than they
did last year. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
I think every team see the way we play and
especially the unique football we have that teams whenever they
play us, they set a specific game plan to try
to counter everything that we do well. And so I think,
like you said, being the new club and then showing
that we are last year, we were one of the
best teams in the league, and this year, the way
we play, I think we are still one of the
(25:50):
best teams in the league. So I think the teams
attack us differently and they want to counter everything that
we do well. And so every game is is a
good challenge.

What was you you made thirty one appearances for Barca

No, I think everything I learned from Spain, not just
at Barsa, but everything. Like you said before, we were
talking about the cultural aspects of Spain and the United States,
But the thing is on the field. I think it's
a different culture of play as well, and I think
bringing all of the especially like people around the world.
We know Spain for knowing the tiki taka style of play,
which is something that I was able to learn and
able to bring over here to San Diego, se individually

and implement it in my style of the game helps
the team a lot.

You made two appearances with the USA Under twenty and

you look at how the development of players in America,
how has that changed to you? And like, where do

going in the future?

Nah, I mean we can see it every single day
that US soccer is growing. It's on and up, that's
for sure. Every day we see more young guys playing
in the ML's playing over in Europe, especially right now,

us and we're all hunting for that spot on the
next World Cup roster or even this World Cup roster
if possible. So CYA Sucker is definitely on the up.

And I think the investment that that this country has
put in it is giving it true and what we
want is just for it to get better and better.

the MLS Cup, So you got to think there's something
a little bit extra on it on it coming up

this weekend. But getting back to the potterising Dodgers, like
that's how we feel about Tatis, like that's that's how
we feel. I feel about the POTTERI is where like

We get a lot of like people are split and
I know it's in San Diego. Some people are like

very hard on the team. This is frustrating. We expect

a highest standard is because the Potteries have elevated. The
Potteries have elevated from oh, we beat the Dodgers in
twenty twenty two. That was great for that time because
you kind of got the beast off your back, so

to say, and you finally broke through. But then you
saw you get waxed by the Phillies. And it's felt
like ever since that twenty twenty four that game four
and five where the potteris you went twenty four scorelers
innings dating back to Game three, it's like, how do
you get to the next level? How do you get
to the World Series. So that's why it's been a unique,
like covering the scene this year, it's unique because they're

winning ball games. Not this yeraries, but they and winning
ball games. But it's been from all the pieces you
wouldn't expect, which is a good thing, Like you hope
for that, But then I don't think anyone, if they're
being one hundred percent honest, think that Merrill Tatisa Machado,
if they keep playing this way so they can win
a World series like it just I don't. I don't

think that can happen. I think they can get it together.
I would rather take have it be that the three
stars aren't performing and hope that they can get back
to a lade level play than trying going like this
roster sucks, like there's no one else besides a couple

like you hold a seam no high standard. In the Dodgers,
you win game one, you lose games two and three.
The Cubs, a big time team in the NL, you

State a great bracket by the way, at the planet
Iowa State two days before Thanksgiving and then they're playing

either Tennessee or Maryland on Thanksgiving and then maybe like
Saint John's the day after. So like I got excited
for because I know it's like San Diego State football
or San Diego State basketball and then you're working, but
then you have time away from it, So I just
I like everything that it offers.

and I ate nothing an entire day in Albuquerque. But
then I realized I could have ordered his food on

able to be winning ball games against the Dodgers in

great that you have the ability to do that. You
have the bullpen and starting pitching staff where you can.

the Phillies, or a team like that of the Yankees,
you guys to the World Series. You're not beating them

one zero. So then game two we didn't come out
here and cross the Potter's Yesterday. I thought Game two
was was a hard fought game. Pottery's missed a couple opportunities,
had that ground rule double, which could have definitely changed
the game. The throwing air for Mason Miller. You know,
who knows what happens if the Dodgers don't score, there
goes to extras and who knows. Yesterday was disappointing though,

because with a pitcher like Shoyotani, you're not going to
have too many opportunities throughout a game where he is
going to make mistakes. It'll happen, It'll happen at some point.
But when that happens, you have to take advantage of it,

and I came out of the game early or at
least run his pitch count up, especially considering the Dodgers
are very careful with how they throw Shohotani because they
know he's the franchise. He's our best hitter on the team,
So the last thing you want to do is throw,

gonna put him and they're never gonna put him in

that position. You're behind the eight pall shootan against the
home run in the first play or first pitch of
the game. Randy vasquiz like, I'm not gonna go on
here in bass Randy Vasquez. Did he have his best outing?
Absolutely not. He was getting touched up, the Dodgers, getting
a lot of runners on base. But the Dodgers let
the Patres in the game like they didn't really, they

didn't really put their stamp on that game. They scored
one run in the first inning, they left a couple
on base in the second despite scoring one run. They
totally they lost seven as a whole in terms of
seven left on base. I mean, the Dodgers were leaving
this game open. And then it leads us to the
moment where fran A Tatis's bases loaded one out, the

shot to do something. I was at the game last night.
Place was going crazy feeling like this was this was
a real opportunity for Fernando to uh to to you know,
to make his imprint and kind of rewrite the last
couple of months of the season because anytime it's against
the Dodgers we've been talking about all week, it feels
like a bigger matchup because it is a bigger matchup.
I mean, the Dodgers, no matter what Dodger fans or

the Dodgers want to say, they look at the Potres
differently because if they didn't Shootani would not have been
hitting last night. Because for the rest of this, so
far into the season, Shoeyotani when he's pitch hasn't been hitting.
And that's what the Dodgers think. All of the San
Diego Potters, they want to beat him, and they want
to they want to have an imprint, but to score
zero runs too, despite being in the game, like it felt,

it felt like they were never in the game, even
though they never really got away from him. It was
just it was disappointing. It was a bummer performance Tatis.
It was his home to come through, and then no
one's talking about Manny Machado because Mandy Machado had had

pay these guys to be the franchise and to come

him to the Dodgers. You know, the Cubs, you would

probably not want to because of the whole NL prospect.
You know the Phillies again, that's NL. So I don't
know if you want to trade it in conference. But

The Yankees look up for Nato tat Teas and go,
all right, well, this is a big time player, a potential,
a potential juice to this lineup, and they have the

they can afford him because of the money they're able
to pay, and they have the kind of talent pooled
in their farm system that the potteris could take everything.

not saying I would do this, but the team is
showing you they're pretty damn good around the big three

like they're playing pretty good baseball. The starting pitching staff
has been exceptional. When Nick Poveda and Joe Muscrove hurt,
the bullpen is arguably, I would say the best in baseball.
Guys like Gavin Sheets and Miguelandahar are playing well. Now.
I don't know if that's all gonna last, but there
is something to be said of, hey, we've we've done
all we could with this trio of Merril, Machado and

Tatis like that would be the thinking to Night and

I think there's something wrong with his eyesight. He's aimlessly
swinging it pitches a foot out of the zone and

issue was and fixed with glasses. What separates big league
hitters and us normal human beings as their hand eye coordination.
If they have an eye issue, there are no better

ever gonna get back to his former self. Obviously, the
Dodgers are off the table because you would never trade

team like the Mets, a team like one of these
teams that has the capability where they have a massive payroll,

they could take on that salary and not We've talked
that nauseum about the the the not not having a
salary cap in Major League Baseball, and and they could
take that on and eat it and slide him into
that that that rotation or not rotation, but that the order.
But to the point of what are you getting back,
you're certainly not getting back what you thought you could

to if I's point, it does feel like if you believe,
if the Potterys believe that fran Ao Tatis is never

they got to trade him because it's only gonna get
worse in terms of value if they believe that he

some other team, if it's fair or not, he's getting

let's let's get more teams in the playoffs. This is great.

I get college football and college basketball are trying to

keep up. They're trying to make more money. College basketball,
the expansion really only affects the tournament. You're gonna get
more games on the Monday, on the Tuesday, and Wednesday
before the tournament actually starts. I'm against that. I just
think that college basketball the problem it has is someone
who watches the Aspects every night as an alum like it.
The assets have been on the cut line, so every

game has really mattered to us here in San Diego.
College basketball most people start tuning in around February like that,
because it just it lacks so much urgency. If you're
a duke, if you're Kansas, if you're North Carolina, if
you're one of these cools, the chances of you missing
the tournament are very very slim. So you know, I
just think I think it creates less less uh less

on the regular season. In terms of college football, I'm
for an expansion twenty four fields accessive to me because
I don't think there's twenty four teams that can win
national championship. I am for it's at twelve. Now. If
you're gonna have the one for a non Power four team,
that's fine. But let's not sit here and pretend like

the non power four team is competitive. It's it's inclusive
to schools to make sure that they have a shot
if you're not in one of the powerfour conferences. But
I'm sorry, James Madison is not on the level like
of Oregon. They played them last year. It's not even
a competitive game. It was at twelve last year. If
it had been sixteen last year, we would have added
Texas to the mix with arch Manning, would have added Vanderbilt, Diego, Pavia,

USC would have got in, and we would have had
Notre Dame. We would have had the Notre Dame Miami debate.
This kind of went away because everyone forgot the fact
that Miami went on the run to the national championship game.
It went the whole debate that we had for weeks
was should Miami or Notre Dame get in? Notre Dame
didn't plan a conference championship game, neither did Miami because

we'd with how they acc works and who should have
got in the fact that Miami went all the way
kind of quieted the fact that they shouldn't have been in.
But it would have been fun to see Notre Dame
in there. Twenty four feels a little excessive because what
I'm talking about with college basketball and it's diminishing a
little bit of the regular season. Look, I'm still gonna watch.
I'm a massive college football fan, love college football. Twenty

four teams does feel like you're allowing a lot in
I think the perfect number is sixteen. I'm with the SEC.
I think sixteen allows either still some big time programs
that are getting left out, will create more competition at
the top of the top of the bracket and more
chances for upsets, so you don't have you know, your
your top tier programs, Ohio States, Alabama just kind of
(19:43):
running through everyone like it used to be when it
was a fourteen playoff. They had to get to the
playoff for the four teams. They the number one seed
would win one game against a subpar maybe Oklahoma team
at the four spot, and then have to win the
national championship game. I liked that the playoff is expanding,
that it's going to create more competition and it harder
to get to the national championship game, and we're getting
(20:03):
some big time matchups. But twenty four feels like a
little bit too much. Now. I know in this proposal,
you're getting rid of conference championship games. You would be
adding five weeks to the regular season. The first eight
teams I believe get buys, and then teams nine through
sixteen would host teams seventeen through twenty four on their
home campus, So that would add a fun aspect of
(20:25):
it that, hey, you're still you know, if you're the
number two team in the country and you know you're
gonna be in the twenty four team playoff, there still
is a lot to a lot to play for in
terms of winning, because you want to make sure you
get that buy or you at least want to make
sure you get a home playoff game. But twenty four
feels a little bit too much for me, And like,
how long is the playoff going to go? Because they're
(20:46):
talking about adding weeks. I think the only way this
works is if you cut off some of the regular
season because like, I'm sorry, I don't want to see
Alabama play Northwest Missouri State like that. That to me
is just no one needs to see that. Look, I
get the small schools getting chipped out a couple of
million dollars to get absolutely destroyed by sixty points. I
don't need to see a game where the spread is

north of forty, Like that's just ridiculous to me. So
I think you could work it in there, but it
is a tricky situation, and the big ten sec are
certainly gonna have to agree because those are the two
most powerful conferences in the sport. I'm curious what they
end up on if they split the difference in the
middle at twenty or if they just keep it at twelve.

Doing good? Man? Doing good man? Thank you for thank
you for hopping on. So I'm curious. I know, I
know you came from you know, you're acquired last year,
last July, and you're played in Spain. What has that
been like? Look? What has been a just like a
kind of cultural adjustment? And then number two, what does
that look like in terms of you know, obviously soccer
is the biggest sport over there, in Spain. How have
(22:21):
you seen the kind of difference in the fans between
Spain and over here in San Diego.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah, I think the especially being American in Brazilian, I
think the culture change, especially to Spain was pretty easy
and I love it. Coming back to the States was
a little bit weird. I'd say, uh, the cultural the
cultural differences are pretty big from Spain to you, so
it was it was a little bit hard adjusting back
to here. But I'm very grateful that I get to
be back here in the United States where I was born.
And then I'd say for the fans Spain, I think
(22:50):
it's a little bit more they they live and die
for the sport. I think here in the US we
still have a very diversified a group of fans, especially
we have basketball, American football, and baseball. So it's it's
a little bit less liver or die. But the sport
is growing a lot here and we can see that
every single.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Day, one hundred percent. They So the offense has certainly
woke up the last couple of weeks, you know, against
Austin five goals three last, you know, last week in Cincinnati.
What do you think has been the biggest change because
they during that little slump, it felt like the offense
was kind of lacking something. What has been the biggest difference.
Has it been a game plan thing or just guys
stepping up?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
No, I think it's it's just guys stepping up. Like
you said, it's guys taking risks. When they have the
opportunity to shoot, we shoot, and I do only have
to just keep trying to get that goal. And I
actually eight goals in the last two game shows that
there's guys taking taking steps and showing that they want
to be their protagonist.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
What do you so the World Cup? We actually had
TJ Desandos on our earlier today and I'm curious, like
you was kind of talking about the World Cup. He
gets like, there's World Cup roster, but the World Cup
break is so unique this year with the MLS and
that there is kind of a large break throughout the season.
Do you guys approach this differently, Like is there more
of a hard press on know than that you guys
are going to get some off time and coming up
(24:01):
here in a few weeks.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Yeah, I know, we have a couple of weeks off
and it's just a time to recharge and we're gonna
have a longer preseason than we actually did at the
beginning of this season, so it'll be a good time
to work on our game plan actually and continue working
on those tactics that may have not been at the
one hundred percent for this first half of the season.
So it's it's just a little tiny little break to
recharge and then attack the second half of the season

with everything.

What do you what do you see in what do
you see in Vancouver? The you know, White Cats have
been kind of a perennial good team here in the MLS.
What what see the kind of casual fan look for
in this matchup coming up?
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Yeah, the Vancouver white Caps are obviously one of the
strongest teams right now in the MLS. Last year they
got to the final and and we still have a
little bit of of hurt because we got knocked out
by them in the conference final, the Western Conference final
last year. So we're going into this game with a
little bit of the painful last year and we're gonna
give it everything to to do what we couldn't do
last year.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Well, you kind of mentioned it the kind of personal
game back when you're when you're facing Vancouver, Like, how
does that that work? Because last year you guys were
kind of, you know, I know you got acquired half
through the year, but it was kind of Stu seems
just a great story kind of playing that underdog role
and then the fact that you guys went to Western
Conference Finals. It feels like it's kind of flip where
you guys went from being the the hunters to the hunted.
(25:20):
Is it kind of a unique flip and that now
you guys are kind of, you know, want of your
get back against this team. But do you think teams
approach and play you guys differently than the than they
did last year. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
I think every team see the way we play and
especially the unique football we have that teams whenever they
play us, they set a specific game plan to try
to counter everything that we do well. And so I think,
like you said, being the new club and then showing
that we are last year, we were one of the
best teams in the league, and this year, the way
we play, I think we are still one of the
(25:50):
best teams in the league. So I think the teams
attack us differently and they want to counter everything that
we do well. And so every game is is a
good challenge.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
What was you you made thirty one appearances for Barca
in Spain. What was kind of the number one thing
you took from over there to your game today right here.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
No, I think everything I learned from Spain, not just
at Barsa, but everything. Like you said before, we were
talking about the cultural aspects of Spain and the United States,
But the thing is on the field. I think it's
a different culture of play as well, and I think
bringing all of the especially like people around the world.
We know Spain for knowing the tiki taka style of play,
which is something that I was able to learn and
able to bring over here to San Diego, se individually
(26:33):
and implement it in my style of the game helps
the team a lot.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
You made two appearances with the USA Under twenty and
the twenty twenty five FIFA Under twenty World Cup. When
you look at how the development of players in America,
how has that changed to you? And like, where do
you see the direction of US soccer? Obviously very excited
for the World Cup here in a few weeks. Where
do you see the kind of direction of US soccer
going in the future?
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Nah, I mean we can see it every single day
that US soccer is growing. It's on and up, that's
for sure. Every day we see more young guys playing
in the ML's playing over in Europe, especially right now,
people my age eighteen, nineteen twenty. There's a lot of
us and we're all hunting for that spot on the
next World Cup roster or even this World Cup roster
if possible. So CYA Sucker is definitely on the up.

And I think the investment that that this country has
put in it is giving it true and what we
want is just for it to get better and better.

don't want to be the team that no one expects

that's great. You want to be the team that people
expectings from. And I think that's why it's maybe felt
a little bit different so far this year with STFC,
but excited they kind of got to going against Cincinnati,
destroyed Austin last week and here Paedro say it, I
mean Vancouver, this is the team that kept them from
the MLS Cup, So you got to think there's something
a little bit extra on it on it coming up

this weekend. But getting back to the potterising Dodgers, like
that's how we feel about Tatis, like that's that's how
we feel. I feel about the POTTERI is where like
say it's funny on our text on a lot Tex
seven zero four seven zero start your mess with team.
We get a lot of like people are split and
I know it's in San Diego. Some people are like

very hard on the team. This is frustrating. We expect
that's excellence, and sometimes you get people who are like, oh,
why are you guys being mean to our guys and
things like that. And why I hold the team to
a highest standard is because the Potteries have elevated. The
Potteries have elevated from oh, we beat the Dodgers in
twenty twenty two. That was great for that time because
you kind of got the beast off your back, so

to say, and you finally broke through. But then you
saw you get waxed by the Phillies. And it's felt
like ever since that twenty twenty four that game four
and five where the potteris you went twenty four scorelers
innings dating back to Game three, it's like, how do
you get to the next level? How do you get
to the World Series. So that's why it's been a unique,
like covering the scene this year, it's unique because they're

winning ball games. Not this yeraries, but they and winning
ball games. But it's been from all the pieces you
wouldn't expect, which is a good thing, Like you hope
for that, But then I don't think anyone, if they're
being one hundred percent honest, think that Merrill Tatisa Machado,
if they keep playing this way so they can win
a World series like it just I don't. I don't

think that can happen. I think they can get it together.
I would rather take have it be that the three
stars aren't performing and hope that they can get back
to a lade level play than trying going like this
roster sucks, like there's no one else besides a couple
of big time players. You'd much rather have it be
the stars, who you know have proven it before, rather
than than you know, trying to rebuild a roster on

the fly around a couple stars. But it is it's
like you hold a seam no high standard. In the Dodgers,
you win game one, you lose games two and three.
The Cubs, a big time team in the NL, you
win game one, you lose games two, and three the Brewers.
You win one game in game two because Gavin Sheets
roaks in the ninth inning, and it's just like you
got it. Like they have not proven it against the

elite NL teams, Which is why I think the national
media and a lot of people here locally are kind
of taking this a little bit with a grain of sault,

But in the times that I played with buddies, get
a couple of drinks in you or something like that,
naturally be more aggressive. My success rate is much better
when I'm more aggressive. Really, just when you when you're
more but you strategically, strategically more aggressive.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Exactly.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
I got one friend who's like aggressive, Let's say we
have one or two buy ins and then you're going
to reach a certain point and it's like it's.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
It like no limit where it's like you're trying to
take everyone's ships.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
Yes, but let's say there's we got like two buy
ins and it's gonna be one hour before the buyings
are done. So he's overly aggressive knowing that he can
buy it.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
I love that. I'm like is this what we're doing here?
Because what do you play in Vegas? Blackjack? I play
blackjack and craps, Like I'm not good enough, Like I'll
play poker at my friends, but yeah, like I'm like that,
Like I'm not a good enough poker player. I know
I would get cleaned out if I sat down at
a real poker table when people would play all day
best as friends.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
Like if we got together a couple of that's the
best of doing.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
That'll be fun. But like I love craps is fun
because the whole table's winning, well not necessarily, like the
whole table can win at the same time. Like if
it hits the point, it's like everyone's drinking. I don't
know that.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
I don't either, Sammy like anything that if it's too
much for me, and I like know all the rules
of all the sports in America, but if this is
too much for me, it's just too much.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
It's probably because you just don't care. I don't know,
and I don't care.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
I mean Roulette is like we've got green numbers, we
have black the numbers, we have red numbers.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Yeah, I like that, they say, so Roulette is actually
the least experienced dealers, because to that end, it's like
it's how do you mess it up? You just all
relying on Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
I mean there's just a house take based on like
how many zeros there, right, and.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
It's what number it lands on, and then Blackjack's second,
and then Roulette is the most or sorry, Craps is
the most because there's a gazillion different payouts. Do you shave?
Do you? Do you like going to Vegas? When you go?
Speaker 4 (37:40):
I do actually enjoy Las Vegas, and I'm not a gambler,
but what I found to like about Vegas is it
truly has something for everyone. Like and what I like
is I'm typically there around the San Diego State sporting event,
which I enjoy. So it's like they just announced today
the players. They are a festival bracket that San Diego
State a great bracket by the way, at the planet
Iowa State two days before Thanksgiving and then they're playing
(38:02):
either Tennessee or Maryland on Thanksgiving and then maybe like
Saint John's the day after. So like I got excited
for because I know it's like San Diego State football
or San Diego State basketball and then you're working, but
then you have time away from it, So I just
I like everything that it offers.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Kind of what's what's Vegas on Thanksgiving? Like their last
year on thanks Like, I'll tell you what it is.
I'll tell you this.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
It's a lot better than Albuquerque on Thanksgiving because I
left Vegas Thanksgiving morning to get to Albuquerque to watch
the Aztecs player and I was so miserable. I walked
the entire city of Albuquerque and nothing was open other
than like knock off with press. And I'm a vegetarian
and I ate nothing an entire day in Albuquerque. But
then I realized I could have ordered his food on
(38:44):
my phone.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
But I they do, they do do that.
Speaker 5 (38:48):
Well, you know, you didn't grow up in in so
you know, in like the region or the area Atlanta City.
So when's okay, Well, here's what I was gonna ask,
because here's what's happened to Vegas. I was in Vegas
probably let's say within the last let's say a year
or so. No, I say, yeah, it was like last summer,
and we planned like let's go to Vegas for a
few days and try to enjoy it. Right, brother, they
(39:09):
they lost something that's so important with how cheaping with
their consumersse not even.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Forget the costs.
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Let's just can you be a little reasonable, Like, let's
just not be unreasonable.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
That's all. But if I this, every restaurant's five star
out too. There's no like just casual eats in Vegas.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
There or there's casual eats, but they're charging you twenty
bucks for a slice of pizza like something as stupid
as that.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
We went to.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
There was one of the pools that we were at.
We went to and just we're gonna go grab a margarite,
like go grab a drink. First off, none of it
was like, oh my gosh, this is good quality, this
is this wanting that that.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Whatever the thing is.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
And I think each drink was like thirty bucks.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Yeah, I want they no longer reasonable. I just want
you to be reasonable. I agree with that. I'm curious.
I've never been to Lake City. What is how does
Atlantic City compare to Vegas? Did you? Did you grow
up going to Atlantic.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
And it was it was it wasn't a great spot
in nineteen ninety and it's but it was like the spot.
It was the spot in the east and like before
gambling was legal everywhere, that's the only place you could go.
There were two spots, Vegas Atlantic City. Atlantic City has
fun on hard times compared okay, really yeah, because who
(40:25):
needs to go to Atlantic City anymore? You just go
on like your computer or online or any state.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Got the Indians.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Vegas still has I mean a lot of time because
Las Vegas is head and shoulders.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
When you have like you have concerts, you have bar
like you have, you have there's everything in Vegas. It's
your pointing events now you're going for Yeah.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
If you got a chance to go to Atlantic City,
don't go.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
Just if you can off, if you can book, cancel it.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
Yeah, like Tyson fights there probably bat.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
Right, Yeah, yeah, big fights, right, I got the shirt?
