Speaker 2 (01:00):
Doing doing? Great weather?

Speaker 1 (01:02):
It's uh, you know nice, yeah, no no freezing rain
coming down, not.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Too uh not too bad for storms, didn't material line.
That's that's a good thing for people's trees.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
That is a very good thing. We're going to talk about. Uh,
obviously you've got a lot of a lot of talk
when it comes to trees. And really interesting, uh situation
you recently found yourself, and probably not overly unique as
far as the ask, the response is probably a little
bit different from what folks might expect. Before we get
to get to that part of the conversation real quick,

(01:36):
I mentioned Game of Trees dot Com biocharge shampoo, and
I know for Mother's Day you've got a fantastic product
as well coming out for Mother's Day, a special bodybar
and shampoo with what is the what are the two
magnolia that's the uh and it's got the two colors. Yeah, yeah, folks.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Sauce are magnolias are just coming to a close and
there blooming cycle the bright pink, great big petals they've
been displaying this last week.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Well, that is awesome and you can order those online
a Game of Trees dot com. You mentioned the magnolia
and and it has it's got that beautiful, beautiful color
not only to the to the flower, but also to
the to the body soap as well. And of course,
speaking of biochar and body soap, I know you guys
got some great stuff a little something for him as well.

(02:28):
I've been I've been a regular user of the biochar
not so much the soap feature of it or the
shampoo part of it. The soap part quite a bit.
Shampoo not so much, Kevin, But yes it does, Yes
it does. All that great stuff available at gameoftrees dot com.
That's Game of Trees dot com and Kevin, you often

(02:49):
find yourself in interesting situations. And I know, for folks
that follow your YouTube channel as well as follow you
on Instagram, I know you post regularly some of the
stuff you come across. And an interesting story about somebody
that wanted to have a tree, a white oak, if
I if I remember correctly, wanted to have that removed.
And there was a bit of a back and forth

(03:09):
and discussion about removing that tree, wasn't there Yeah, you know, you.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Know, every once in a while somebody just you know,
makes a request for removal. And I got there and
it was a thirty two inch diameter white oak, you know,
and white oaks. You don't find white oaks in nurseries.
You know, if you call us something and say, oh,
I want a white oak, we have swamp white oak,
but not Quercus elba. A true white oak is they

(03:42):
just don't transplant well. And so you know, here we
have this one hundred and fifty year old tree, you know,
standing there, just big and bold. It's probably one of
those trees that every person in the neighborhood walking their
dog walks by and go, that's that's cool. And it
was you know, recause the remove so I I quoted

(04:05):
it for peruni. Uh. And of course it can't be
removed or pruned right now during the growing season.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
It would be in the city of Madison, so there's
ordinances against that due to oak wild But you know,
I want to re educate, you know, educate this client
on the value that that tree is to their property.
There's there's a couple of big white oaks in their
front yard. And and then there's there was a hickory,

(04:34):
a bitter hickory right next to the driveway that we
quoted for removal. It's it's bulging the driveway and you know,
it's it's not a great specimen, it's kind of leaning.
And there's a couple of other hickory's right in that
that corner of the yard that there would be a
you know, while you remove them, you don't remove them.
It wouldn't be a big thing. But when you have
a thirty two inch diameter quirks elba uh, You're gonna

(04:59):
get a little you know, pushback from me, but not
in a you know, I don't know arrogant or cocky
way or anything. It's just it is what it is.
That's great value. If you're not going to live in
your house for forever, that that adds value to your resale,
you know. You know, if it's gone, does somebody notice

(05:22):
it's gone?

Speaker 1 (05:23):
No?

Speaker 2 (05:23):
But it's acting in conjunction with other trees. It's kind
of a forested neighborhood, you know, So when you take
out a big tree, you're going to change the wind
dynamics in the area. You could alter, you know, the
the integrity of other trees around it. There's there's a
number of reasons why you may not want to remove
a real stable, you know, superstory tree in a neighborhood.

(05:47):
And you know, so you know, I give my professional opinion,
and if we get the job, we get the job.
If we don't, maybe somebody else removes that tree. But
you know, I'm not willing to hang my reputation on that.
So I want to give the best thing to the client.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
You think of a tree over one hundred years old,
and just you know all that it's provided and I
don't white oak. I mean, it's clearly it's it's got
a long life ahead of it as well. And you know,
you think about I know, I think I've told you
the story before. One of the reasons why the house
we ended up buying, why we chose it, had a
lot to do with a large maple tree in the

(06:28):
backyard that provided a lot of shade. And I have
a redheaded wife who her and the sun don't always mix,
so I thought, how perfect is that? So's it's good
to see that any Have you heard back from them
at all?

Speaker 2 (06:44):
No, not as of yet, but you know, well we'll see.
Many times I have talked people out of removals and
and most of the removals we do. You know, I
can't say I've never done a removal that was kind
of a subjective choice by the homeowner. I believe in,

(07:06):
you know, a little libertarian freedom as well. But uh,
you know, if if it were a thirty inch silver maple,
you know, I've never really wept over. You know, they're
it's neither here nor there. Yeah, just but there there
are certain species that are just like you know, this
one's kind of special and and you probably want to reconsider,

(07:30):
uh taking this. If someone were to remove that tree,
you know, mistakenly, that could be a multi you know,
tens of thousand dollars set. Wow, what that tree would
be valued for if in a in a situation like that,
and and somebody's just thinking of, I'll just take that

(07:52):
out of my yard. You want, you want, you want
to give them their best education so that they you know,
if they go on and and have that done, it
won't be because I didn't tell them.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, it's it's good. It's good to get that education
out there as well. And you mentioned a different species
of tree, a silver maple. Yeah, I think for for
a lot of folks, you know, that's not a not
a lot of tears shed. On the other hand, you've
got a you got one hundred plus year old oak
tree that's just looks great and and just could use

(08:25):
a little care. It's definitely something worth preserving. And uh,
you know, we always talk about generations and trees benefit
for for the for current and future generations. And I
know with the Legacy Tree program you have at Ham's Arborcare,
it's really making sure that that not only is it
a great tree, but it's going to be set off

(08:47):
on course on the proper way to make sure that
that it develops and grows and and we'll be around
for generations to come.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah. Absolutely, we have a great variety of trees. We
just picked up a few more yesterday, dropped them off,
and uh, you know, we have a number of ornamentals
for the right smaller area. We have uh several several
different types of maples, and a few different types of oaks, elms,

(09:17):
uh disease resistant elms, and hackberries and uh, some honey locusts,
you know, some some common trees that you hear about.
And and with the legacy trees, the root structure of
these trees is markedly different than than traditional nursery concepts.

(09:38):
And and that that is the foundation of any tree
is the is the root system. And so many trees
in the urban landscape die early because of poor root structure,
and and so the we're getting this off to the
right start. And we offer a five year warranty, which

(09:58):
is un us in the industry, and we're going to
touch that tree and train it during those five years,
so you really get off to a good start. It's
a great value and we're poison ready. A couple of
them are going in.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
This week. Oh it's awesome. And as you mentioned, you've
got you've got great trees in stock as well. With
with the legacy trees and that five year warranty, you're
not going to beat that. And that's a great thing
too about having those legacy trees planted is not only
are they going to be put in properly with Kevin
and the team at Hams Arborcare, they're going to be
cared for for years to come. So definitely check that out.

(10:37):
If you've got that spot in your yard you're going
you know what, I would love to put a tree
in there. Kevin, the team would love to talk to you. Also,
a great time to talk pruning and other things as well.
If you've got questions about your trees, today's day to
