Speaker 1 (00:01):
I like that one three five K t you to
Beat of New York to Hollywood, Hamilton showing the K
two Morning Crew. I'm so excited about this guest. Yeah,
we were talking about the Fields last week, remember gang.
It's where single people are paying up to two hundred
dollars to hold each other's hands in like dark rooms.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
It's a new way of dating. It's just so weird.
Her name is Ali Hoffman. She's the founder and director
of The Fields.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Ally there, I'm here.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
You're crazy.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
So many questions we have for you, Ali's how in
the world did you come up with this idea. I
was not wanting to go into bars or clubs and
just get drunk. And I like to joke that I
was thirty eight and single and wanted to be around
other single people who were thoughtfully approaching datings and it

(00:51):
didn't exist. So I created it right. And what they're
meant to do is drop people in too thoughtful dialogue
with each other. There's time to compliment each other. There's
a part that we call the somatic part, where you
might I gaze, you might hold a hug for a bit,

(01:14):
and really what it is designed to do is unwind
some of what I believe tech has distorted in how
we're dating and relating. I think it is we have
us treating each other like we're disposable, and so the
field is really a way to return to being really
present with each other, being thoughtful, answering real questions.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Okay, So Ali, so we're coming in right, I paid
it fee. It's a dark room. Do we automatically? What
do we start hugging it out? Do we start holding
hands right away? Can work our way up to this?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
How do we know? Okay, So there's a little bit
of free time up at the top to mingle, and
then we bring everybody together. The facilitator brings everybody together,
and then there's an opening, like a ten to fifteen
minute opening where we give a bay a lot of
information about what's ahead. And then you're paired off four times,
and as facilitators, we're guiding you every step of the way,

(02:09):
and we well, how stop?

Speaker 1 (02:10):
How we pairing off people? I mean, do what if
I see somebody from across the room, I want to
hold her hand? Like, do I get my choice?

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Uh? Yeah, you do? You do? So in the first
pair we put you in and then we guide you
for the other three in choosing. So, so, yes, if
you spot somebody and you're like, yeah, I would like
to pair up with that person, we create space for
that to happen if you pair us with somebody. And

(02:37):
usually I feel when you meet somebody within about thirty
seconds to a minute, you know if you like them
or you don't. What if you're not feeling that person,
are you able to separate or are you stuck with
them for a certain amount of time? Great question, So both, like,
we give you opportunities to consent constantly, so you're always
able to say like no, I don't want you to

(02:57):
touch me. You know that, And we need you in
that beside you in that because that's also a really
big part of dating, right is being able to say
like I'm a yes or I'm a no. So we're
big into honesty.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Ah.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
This is much more designed to get people just back
out into the world and leading to each other, stepping
into new, different, uncomfortable spaces because the dating apps haven't
really forced us to have deep, uncomfortable conversation.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
I love that because it says here in your description,
it says people now can meet in softly lit rooms
with facilitators, leading eye contact exercises, low breathing, and gentle handholding.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
We actually communicate much more nonverbally than we do verbally.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I'm waning a lot like you smile at somebody, you
give someone a little eye contact, a little way eye contact.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yes, And all we actually want to feel is somebody
is able to be present with us, paying attention to us,
listening to it. And that's a lot of what we
tune people into. And then we'll have problems with that, Ali,
I have a failing.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Is this something Marie, you would want to participate in?
Because we have three single people on staff here in
the morning show, right, we got Anthony over there, we
got Marie here, and we got Astra, all different ages,
three of all different ages here. Why don't we do
a little test because if your dating service works with
these three, I mean congratulations, I'm wow. Yeah, message delivered.

(04:32):
Can we possibly get them on this thing? Or what
do we do here?

Speaker 2 (04:36):
We would love to host y'all.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Beautiful, you're gonna go to this thing. You're gonna report
back to us, right, Astra, Marie and Anthony food? Yes,
Ali Hoffman, amazing what you got going on? It's called
the Fields. She is the founder of the Fields. Now quickly,
anybody who wants to get involved with this, Alli, when's
the next When are we doing this again?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
November nineteenth and tried back. Uh, we'd love to have everybody,
and you can find out all of our events. There's
one every week in New York and it's all it
touches the Fields dot Co or very simply the Fields
on Instagram.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
The Fields on Instagram. Give up that site again.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Catch the Fields dot co.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
All right, Ali Hoffman, right, yeah, good luck, Astro, good luck, Marie,
good luck, Anthony KT you Thanks Ali, okay, thanks everybody,

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
