Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the City that changes the world, Peers Rose with three.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Things you need to know for your Wednesday. Rose.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
So, as you know, real ID goes into effect today,
finally after it became a thing in two thousand and
five and was pushed back.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
So many different times.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
So real idea, as you know, has a star on
the corner. It's the stricter federal standard, but passport and
travel ID will also meet those standards. However, if you
are traveling and you do not have a real ID,
Homely and Security Secretary said, those without a real ID
can still fly, but you're going to face extra security checks.
So it's going to be a lot longer screening process.
(00:41):
So if you do have it, you're good. If you
don't have it, just give yourself a lot.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Of extra time.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
About eighty one percent of travelers already have complying IDs
as far as Maryland and DC ninety nine percent compliant,
right Virginia fifty nine percent. So if you happen to
be one of the percentages that do not, please go
with the program. So Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed the
Consumer Data Protection Act into law last week, which is
all about limiting social media usage for kids under sixteen,
(01:10):
which I think is great. The measure, which had bipartisan support,
bands kids under sixteen from using social media for more
than one hour every day. It also calls for a
neutral approach for asking someone's age when they're creating account
and it says there has to be ways to accurately
verify a young person's agent on this bill says that
companies can't use age information for anything else. That's literally
(01:32):
it's just to verify their age. And then this also
allows parents to increase or decrease the daily one hour limit. Ultimately,
it's the parent's job to regulate how much green time
their kids have.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
They can decide how much or little.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
But the apps will work with lawmakers on the logistics
as well, because there's a lot that has to go
into that.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
And one math.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Teacher at KIPDC Public Schools was smiling pretty big because
he was named a twenty twenty five Harrietball Excellence in
Teaching Award winner.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
It's pretty awesome.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
So.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Ricardo Henry is a middle school math teacher at kip
DC's Learning Center and he was among ten educators across
the nation to be recognized with ten thousand dollars of
highlighting his.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Work in the classroom.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
So school officials noted that he was selected from a
pool of nearly eight thousand teachers across the national network
of KIP public schools. So the Harriet Ball Excellence and
Teaching Award is given to just ten k through twelve
teachers in that kid schools community. I was like, that
is so cool. I wrote, those are the three things
you need to know.
Speaker 2 (02:37):

is easier than Chewy.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
That's offensive.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
And I also grew up with hurting dogs, so.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
I used to hurting as an animal. Yes, hurting is hurting.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, well there's you know, Chewing and Skittles. It's a
tale of two lives. Skittles act and more acts more
like the like a rescue dog, where he's just very
very appreciative and grateful. She we always acted like he
earned this and deserved it and that.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Wow, yeah you've had him, you had Chewy since he's
a puppy.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Yeah, well you can't just put all on me. That's
nature versus nurture, you know what I mean. Nurtured? Yeah, Okay,
last time Skittles is at Shelby's place, you got to
see in the rest for the first time.
