the situation involving the Padres rotation a little more because
we are two weeks out. Their opener is two weeks
from tomorrow. Insane. Yeah, it's kind of creepy fifteen days out.
And guess what. They have question marks, as most teams do,
but the Padres have like larger font question marks than

some other teams. And the reason we bring it up
is Nick Pivetta has been pushed back for his next start.
We believe it to be Saturday, so let's react more
when he pitches this weekend. Then we have Joe Musgrove,
who has I don't know if he suffered a setback,
but we touched on this yesterday with what Kevin Acey wrote,
and you know it's not overly encouraging. They don't know

the next time he's going to pitch in the Caxus
League because he's dealing with the repercussions of coming off
Tommy John so he's being slowed. Let's say, you know,
Michael King. The good news is, you know, we haven't
heard a lot about Michael Kane, but we just know
where he was the last time we saw him in
twenty twenty five. So I mean, again, fifteen days is nothing.
And the whole point of Springs training is to have

starting pitchers built up to contribute from day one. You
don't want your bullpens going seven innings, so you want
Nick Povetta to be built up. You want Joe Musgrove
to be built up to some extent. Same thing with
Michael King. So there's my concern, just not that these
guys are going to pitch or not that you know,
all hope is lost, but that are they going to
be built up because the season starts in fifteen days.

When do you get concerned?

Is it just if they happen to miss time, because
this is not to be catastrophic, But this is what
we saw with you Darbish last year. You Darvish was fine, fine,
fine until he wasn't for opening day and then the
Potter's didn't see him for two to three months. So again,
maybe maybe they're precautionary simply because they know that the
top three guys are so crucial to the pottery success

this year, and really the only shot that they have
to make a run is those guys being healthy. But
it is concerning that if I mean, we're two weeks out,
we're already having these conversations of two there's only three
pitchers on the pottery staff starters that you feel trustworthy
about throwing out there on any given day, and now
there's concerns about two of them.

Yeah, I mean, it is a really good question. I
feel like it is concerning. It's hard to know the
full extent of concern. It's like when you're the padres,
you can backfill with your bullpen or you could more
than get by, right, your bullpen's beyond serviceable. But also
what is the impact of doing that if you're so
heavily relying on your bullpen from day one and you're saying, hey,

just you know, cover six innings and cover five innings
and do that until we kind of figure this out.
Oftentimes it happens there is then your bullpen isn't as
effective at some point, or you're dealing with, you know,
injuries with your bullpen along the way. So I don't know,
Like I'm not saying it's a five alarm fire, but
I'm also not saying, hey, don't call the fire department. Yeah,
you know, I mean, like, if there's smoke, you should

probably call the fire department or put it out. And
so that's where I am with it. It's just again,
I think some of it has a way of work
itself out. I said this, I think yesterday. I say, like, listen,
Pavetta doesn't have to replicate last year. Maybe other someone
else is better, Maybe Randy Vesque is a lot better,
or maybe you know, King is better than he was
last year because he missed time due to injury. And

then the number five spot isn't as impactful, so some
of it works itself out. But you can't just have
blind faith that it just works itself out. Right, Oh,
they have a good bullpen, they have a good pitching coach. O. Okay,
that doesn't automatically mean if a good team.

It is when you kind of take a wider look
at d NL West, you take the Dodgers out of it,
we all know that the team stacked from head to toe.

There's very few weaknesses.

I think the only thing you could look at with
the Dodgers some of the stars getting up there in
age a little bit, Mookie Bets, Freddy Freeman, ti Oscar Hernanez,
some of those players that would I think be the
one concern if you are the Dodgers.

But the rest of the rest of the teams, the
pottery is clear.

Hole is starting pitching in that you don't know if
they have a fourth fit that you can really rely on.

The Diamondbacks you look at as they're gonna get burns back.
I think they have some exciting hitters in the lineup
with Marte, Corby and Carroll up and down the roster.
The bullpen was dreadful, I believe they were twenty eighth
in the MLB last year out of thirty.

It's crazy.

And then the Giants, did they do enough because the
pitching staff of the Giants last year was pretty good,
the starting pitching staff. You felt pretty good with Robby
Ray in Logan Web, but you know, they couldn't hit.
And then they made the trade with the Red Sox.
Do you get a big slugger and they get Louis
a Rise. It is kind of funny how the three
other teams, not counting the Rockies in the NLS, So

sorry to Rocky fans, they have three other teams with
the Dodgers each have one glaring hole. The Diamondbacks the bullpen,
the Giants it's hitting, and the Potteries, I think is
starting pitching. So I'm just like, from how that plays
out through the whole year, you know, I guess what's
the worst problem to have. I'd probably say hit, probably
if you're the Giants.

You know, that's what's the worst problem to have. Is
I mean, for me, a lot of this stuff starts
as starting pitching, Like how do you overcome having a
you know, let's say, if you have the twenty eighth
best rotation in baseball. You cannot overcome that, right, would
we agree? If you have the twenty eighth best rotation? Now,
could you overcome a bad bullpen? Also hard? But you

can do it with your offense, and you can do
it with good starting pitching. I think if you have
the twenty eighth best rotation, that's hard to overcome. The
Padres don't, by the way, They'll be better than that.
They have a pitcher's park, they have invested in their staff.
Barring a complete calamity, they'll have a much better rotation.

Now outside of injuries, they're gonna have a good rotation exactly.

But that's the part of it. I think that it's
the point, like I've hammered home for so long, It's
like the reason their projections don't look as good as
we think they should is because they lack depth in
terms of starting pitching options. And if you did lose
a couple of the pictures at the front of your rotation,
how can you backfill? You cannot with Apcars and Matt
Waldron or whatever other options are going to have. It's

just not going to look the same. It's not to
say Wals fall off and you go sixty one to
one on one that's never gonna happen. But wills fall
off and all of a sudden, you're winning eighty games
because you just can't backfill. You don't have a lot
in your system to replace with the pieces you've added.
Are all these like veteran flyers Herman Marquez, Walker, Bueller,
I mean these are falling guarantees, Griffin Cannon coming off injury,

these are not guarantees. So that's why to me, ceiling
remains they could win any games. I'm not going to
be shocked if they win any games. But I'm also
not gonna be shocked if if they were to fall
to that eighty threshold. Like is that some of these
projected projection sites, because what happens if the rotation is
dealing with injuries or ineffectiveness.

Also, we all know bullpens are so fluid from year
to year. The first year the Dodgers won the World
Series gains the Yankees an amazing bullpen, terrible rotation completely flip.
Last year, Dodgers had one of the most taxed and
just worst bullpens throughout baseball and was kind of an
enigma that they ended up winning the World Series with
that bat of a bullpen the Diamondbacks. You know, it

is so fluid from year to year, and not to
be morbid on the potteris because I agree with you.
I think the Potter's at their best could be a
very dangerous team that does win ninety games. But we
kind of just penciled in the fact that the bullpen's
going to be great, and on paper they do look great.
I mean, even though Suarez isn't there, you still have Morojone,
Mason Miller, best closer in baseball.

I mean, you got up and down Estrada.

I think David Morgan actually was a solid piece last
year that probably just because of how talented the bullpen was,
didn't get enough looks and will this year. But it
is a little alarming when your calling card is your
bullpen and we know that the names look at Tanner Scott,
Tanner Scott's unblieable with Pottery is terrible with the Dodgers.

The next year blows about fifteen saves for him. It
is a little nerve racking that the calling card of
the team is the bullpen and it is so fluid
from year to year.

people want to discredit him and people want to go,
he's a foul merchant. The refs are looking for contact.

fusive of Lebron James. I haven't since I'm not saying
some players haven't been very complimentary I'm sure there will
be and have been. But you think we just score
eighty three points, it would be the greatest moment, like

in the history of the NBA. It's not being treated
like that today.

I say that, well, obviously you leave in the hands
of the committee and you're probably on the outside looking in.
And my whole belief with that is like, if you're
going to get to the conference championship game, just win

the conference championship game. At that point you've done the work.
What's the point of winning Thursday and Friday and then
leaving it in the hands of the committee. Yeah on
Saturday if you don't win. Now, I get it not
easy easy for me to say that, but it's like,
if you get on the floor on a championship day
with an opportunity to play your way in, then go
play your way in. It's right in front of you.

And with the as tags not just being in the
first four out but Lunardi a lot of people have
them as that that the first four out, Yeah, next
four out, So I guess what would that be the
fifteam out?

There's a reason why they have the second best odds
behind Utah State, And you could argue that San Diego

State is the best bet because Utah State is going
to hear their name called on selection Sunday, no matter
what happens, if they lose you tomorrow or if they
end up winning the whole thing. So with Santego State,
it is like it's hard because and I guess this
quote isn't having a take, but because of how we've
seen them go so far this year. You could see

them losing tomorrow and you could see them running through
this tournament and winning in on Saturday. But in a sense,
because it's so hard to predict predicts from game to game,
what aspect team we're getting. If we see the team
at homing at Utah State, that is I look right,
I think that's the team that all of us kind
of expected and why they were the preseason number one

voted team out of the Mount West, that team I
think destroys everyone in this field. But if you see
the team on the road against Colorado State, if you
see the team at home against Grand Canyon, and again
I'm not saying they weren't trying in those games. I mean,
obviously the other team is trying to win, but those
kind of performances are not going to cut it. So
right over three days, it is you know, if stats
would tell you how the whole season has played out,

tells you anything, is that you do kind of get
up and down performances from night to night. But if
you were to get hot, if you were to have
a BJ Davis Friday night against NLV and a couple
of your big three or Big four Miles Bird and
BJ Davis kind of really jel the next couple days,
you could see this team having a lot of success
this week.

Yeah, I mean it is interesting. I guess maybe that's
just college basketball. Also, it's like, you know, any one
team can look really good on any one day and
then they can look completely different the next Some of
that is matchup dependent as well. Also, what is the
health of the as sex I don't know heading into
this event. If you think back to Friday. Elsie Harrington
didn't play that game. He's been in out of the

lineup with a leg injury that he's battled through. Magoogwath
has been in and out of the lineup, buying large
over the last six weeks or so. So their benefit
is they've had six days since they've played. They last
played Friday, like you can catch your breath, you know,
take a take a breath in, like you could actually
breathe for a moment. And bj Davis actually touched on

this with me postcam Friday night. He's like, it's a
fine line because you don't want to lose your competitive edge,
but you do want to get healthy. But you know,
there's we'll see.

Good? And listen to your point. If they play well Thursday,
I'm gonna say it was great for him. That's all
you need to see. If they play well Thursday, I'll

play well Thursday, it's probably one of the reasons. You'll
point to, Hey, that's six days between games. That's a
lot of time. Colorado State played the day before in
the opening round. Maybe it was to their advantage. Sometimes
that happens in sports, the team that isn't feeling the

same amount of nerves because they've kind of they've already
won in an event. I've always thought that with the
first four, you win in Dayton and you go to
Charlotte for the first round, let's say a house money.
Now you got that belief that you can win on
a neutral floor, and now you have recently played in
a high level game, so we'll know. We'll know more
in twenty eight hours.

And you feel like, if they're gonna win this thing,

do you subscribe to the general thought process that a
lot of people have said here recently about the Mountain
West that there are seven or eight potential champions this
weekend in this tournament.

Although that numbers down now because UNLV beat Wyoming, so
now it's down to eighth. But yeah, I mean, that's
just kind of how the conference has been. And you know,
on the one hand, that's great to have a conference
like that, another hand, it's bad for business because they're
going to get fewer NCAA tournament bids and that translates

into money. And you know, when Saniel Stania for the
schools leave next year, the Mount West is going to
keep those nca turnment years. But there's not gonna be
much to keep because the conference just too close this year,
and everybody beat up on everyone else and ruined everyone
else's chances except for Utah State of getting that large berth.

Would you take Mark Ziegler's with us right now like
we're talking about with maybe you know seven or eight
teams that could win this that are still remaining in
the field. If I said take Utah State or take
everyone else, you'd go down the path of everyone else.

Oh yeah, if you've seen Utah State play in the
last few weeks, just like New Mexico and San Diego State,
the top three teams of the league that are pretty
pretty clearly the top three have all struggled. They all
have losing records in the last four or five games,
and New Mexico's lost three of four. Saying the State
lost four or six, and Utah State had lost three
or four before they beat New Mexico in the last

game of the season. So I don't like the way
they're playing. I don't like the way a lot of
these teams are playing on the top part of the conference.
But teams like Colo State have been really hot. Boyd
us State has been playing pretty well lately. You know,
UNLV has has had some real flashes there. So these
teams are going to be're gonna be tough to beat.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
What do you see as the like determining factor for
San Diego State, Let's just even say Thursday. I mean
the reason I asked is, like, obviously rebounding was an
issue at New Mexico basically cost them a game at Boise,
essentially cost them a game. Now whether they see CSU
or Fresno, those aren't the same type of rebounding teams.
Certainly Coloro State can really shoot the ball. But like,
(24:53):
what's the factor you're looking at specifically with the Aztecs
when they take the floor on Thursday.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
Well, specifically that game is it's not going to be
at altitude. And when they played Colorida State two and
a half weeks ago, and four Collins, you know, five
thousand feet. They looked at their team and they have
a very very efficient offense. They're not very good defensively,
but they're very efficient offensively. They're top fifteen in the country.
And they said, let's you know, and they'd like to
play a half court game, so let's disrupt that and
(25:20):
slow that down or speed them up, I guess is
a better term. By pressing something they rarely do at altitude,
even with a deep roster. It's just so hard to
do that and sustain it. They tried it, it didn't work.
Carlo State still was able to get to their spots,
still able to get their shots, and they made them.
Now they're not going to be at altitude. They've got
ten guys healthy for this game in the rotation, and
(25:45):
I think you'll see them extend their defense selectively, not
the whole game, but they'll pick their spots, and I
think that's an advantage in this game compared to what
we saw two and a half weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
You mentioned their health and said ten will be healthy.
They haven't played since Friday, is the latest or what
are you you know considering heading into this. Obviously, Magoon
has been in and out, Elsie Harrington has been in.
Now where are they heading into this weekend?
Speaker 7 (26:10):
Well, I think you know Reese Waters, Dixon Waters and
Miles Bird both were hobbled and banged up in the
last last couple of games and have been in and
out of practice, but they're both back practicing, so I
expect to see them. Magoon has been practicing, Elsie has not,
and I would I would consider him doubtful, but he
is also you know, there's been instances where he hasn't
(26:32):
practiced and warmed up and felt okay and played, so
we may see him, but I would say it's doubtful.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
So when you look at you know, the season overall,
and I know you've written about it as well at
twenty and ten, you see it the same way most is,
which is, do you see any path other than three
wins in three days for San Diego State or even
I guess anyone other in Utah State. Is there a
path to the NCAA Tournament for New Mexico or San
Diego State without winning the conference tournament.
Speaker 7 (26:58):
Sandie State, no New Mexican, So possibly, I mean everything
would have to fall right. They would have to beat
San Diego State in the semi finals and maybe beat them,
you know, by eight or ten points fairly convincingly, and
then they would need help from the teams you know,
falling off or losing they're also on the bubble a
(27:19):
little bit ahead of them, and then they need no
bid Steelers. So there is a path for them. It's
you know, it's probably less than fifty to fifty, but
it's out there still, I think for New Mexico, I
don't think it's out there.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
For San Diego State, there was a stretch mark and
you probably know better than I do. I think you
wrote it about at some point there was a stretch
where San Diego State had maybe the top defensive efficiency
at kenpund for like six weeks. I don't know the
exact days, but you know, like from early January to
early February, they were among the best defensive teams in
the country. What's interesting here recently is I think they've
allowed eighty plus points in three straight games, including that
(27:50):
win over UNLV on Friday night. How do they get
back to where they were because it's unlikely they're going
to win three straight games allowing eighty points in the
next three games they played.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
Yeah, and it's funny. I asked Brian Dutch of that
exact question, and he said, if I knew the answer,
we would have already fixed it. He goes, I don't
know the answer. Part of it is rebounding. You know,
sometimes in some of these games, their first shot defense
has been pretty good and then they've given up the
offensive rebound, and teams typically shoot a very high percentage
(28:24):
on second chance points off of offensive rebounds because the
defense is in disarray. You know, you see a lot
of three pointers made because they're step in threes. Those
are the easiest threes to make. Teams shoot typically close
to fifty percent on those, because you're moving towards the basket.
You're not moving away or off the dribble. You're just
catching and shooting. You see the whole thing in front
of you. And so there's been a lot of that,
a lot of the easy putbacks inside, and so it's
(28:47):
a defense problem, and it's a rebounding problem. Now we're
talking about defense and rebounding. Yes, some of that's tactical,
but a large percentage of that is just effort and heart,
and that's what this team has kind of waned and
out of thought. Miles Bird's comments yesterday were really interesting.
I mean he admitted that the team has sort of
been lackadaisa coal and maybe took some games off I
(29:09):
think was a phrase he used this season, and they
lost those games. And so to me, the biggest thing
with this team is can they keep focus and urgency
for three straight games. I was a practice the last
two days. They were very urgent and very very focused.
Most I've seen them all season, probably, and so maybe
because the backs are against the wall, we'll see a
(29:31):
little bit more of that urgency. But you know, I
think the tendency for this team has kind of let well,
we'll just let our talent win, and it doesn't always
work like that in backtball, and so I think more
than tactics and extras and o's, it's just they kind
of play with part and they got to play the
whole game. They can't take plays off.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
It's a good perspective. Mark Seler from the U two
with us right now on San Diego Sports seven sixty.
You know, obviously under Brian Dusher, you look at the
success they've had in this tournament. It speaks for itself
in terms of advancing now they in last year for
the first time against Boise State, yet they still found
themselves in the NCAA Tournament. What is it about? I mean,
(30:08):
you've covered this team for a long time. What is
it about San Diego State in Las Vegas? Because whether
it's U and l A or the Thomas and Max
shoot even in the players air last year they had
a couple of wins. What is it about just the
general belief they have when they get into an event
like this.
Speaker 7 (30:22):
Yeah, I mean it's a couple of things. I think
their death helps them a lot. They're very comfortable in
that arena, in that city. They understand Vegas is a
weird place to play for a lot of teams that
don't go there a lot, say State remember goes there
almost well now every single year for a non conference,
they go there for the for the for media day,
they go there for a regular season game. They understand
(30:44):
the drill. They know where to stay, how to stay
out of the casinos and that refiltered air, and how
to kind of put those distractions aside. And they're very
good at it and they have been very good at
it all. They've also had some of the best teams
in Mount West and the best players, so that helps too.
I mean, Brian Dutch as allway sat March's for players
and few are the best players, you have a better
chance of winning. And you know, they had won seventeen
(31:06):
straight quarterfinal games, which I think is just an absolutely
remarkable statistics until last year when they lost to Boise State.
So you can say, well, you should have no problem
with the quarterfinal game, except you know, the one loss
was last year with many of these same players, so
it's hard to sort of use that as a gauge.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
How do you One final question for you, Mark, and
I appreciate you taking time. Maybe there's a conversation for
another day, but it's more of a resources question moving forward.
We've touched on the importance of obviously nil we know
about the unlimited transfers, we know about, you know, essentially
the widening gap between the P four and the rest
of college basketball. Is that gap further widening with resources
(31:46):
or and where will San Diego State potentially stack up
when they enter its next league, the PAC twelve come
next year.
Speaker 7 (31:55):
Yeah, that gap is enormous, and it's the powerful conferences
plus the Big East. The Big East really dropped off
this year. So it'll be interesting to see whether they
can kind of grab on and hold on and get
on the other side of that gap, or they're going
to continue to fall. But if you look around the country,
it's not just San Diego State. I think it's one
(32:15):
thing that need to understand. Yes, I think many people
consider it's a disappointing season, but no mid majors did well.
The gap is that big. Now, programs like Memphis had
an awful season. You know, there's going to be maybe
two at large bids from mid majors this year. That
would be the lowest ever since the tournament expanded in
(32:36):
twenty eleven. And so this is definitely a trend, and
I think it's going to keep continuing until there's some
sort of regulation on the amount of money that you
can spend, which I don't see in the foreseeable future.
So a program like saying State, well, they have more
resources at their disposal in the PAC twelve, maybe a
little bit more TV money, but they also have to
pay an extacy to get there, and so it could
(32:57):
be kind of a financial wash and is going to
be for the administration. Is how much red ink are
they willing to absorb and stomach because they've had some
pretty big deficits and they probably have some more going forward,
and they've got football program that they have to feed
that beast as well. So you know, for them to
(33:18):
keep up, they're going to need money. There's only so
much they can raise and can the administration find some
money or be willing to go into more dead to
give it to them? And that's kind of the question
I think that's going to have to be answered this
off season if we're going to see saying State even
approaching the same level has in the past, or kind
of falling off a little bit like so many other
(33:39):
mid majors have.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Well, it is a really interesting point, of course, heading
into a league with with Gonzaga, right which already has
its inherent advantages without having football as part of its
athletics department. Are you now right? How are you? How
are you now? Are you driving flying? Are you on
your way? Okay? Great stuff? Appreciate you taking time for

I also, Brent hate rooting for something to happen that

you're not just hoping for one of the teams to win.
I guess you are. If Italy wins, the US moves on,

and then if Mexico wins, you want them to score
like five or more runs, I believe, because if they
score five or more runs, then the US is still
going to move on. So it's very confusing, and the
US has nobody to blame with themselves. They were in
position where they easily would have moved on. They could
have just one last night against Italy, and you say, well,
easier said than done. But yeah, they sat starters yesterday

because they thought they had moved on, and now that
could be extremely consequential obviously for them moving forward. So
we'll see, if we'll see, we'll see if the US
moves on or not. It's almost like, I mean, if
you get a second life, you better take advantage of it.
Like if the US does move on and gets the quarterfinal,
I don't want to see them go out in the
quarterfinal round or any round. At that point. It's like

you're given two opportunities. Essentially, if you move on the
first opportunity you basically fell flat in your face. That
was last. But if you're fortunate enough to move on,
regardless of that, you have to win from that point forward,

the what are the options for Kyler Murray in terms
of landing spots? Is Minnesota? What are the possible land
of spots? Pittsburgh? Obviously, with what we've talked about with
Aaron Rodgers is that you.

Know, technically the Jets, but you know, I said that
one day when you're gone, why the hell would you want.

To go there?

Typically when you're in a bad situation with it, you
don't want to go an organization yet you don't want
to go someplace worse.

Yeah, exactly. But what's interesting about Kyler Murray, and we've
made this point a little bit this week, is that
there are examples recently of quarterbacks in the NFL getting
that second lease on life and taking advantage of it.
Not always, but I feel like more now than we
had seen previously. Like I'm thinking about Baker Mayfield, I'm
thinking about obviously, Sam Darnold comes to mind recently, Like
(38:23):
Kyler Murray has been a very good player at times
and I think it's very easy to put it more
in the organization than the player. Some of it's on
the player, make no mistake. I mean, I'm not going
to give Kyler Murray a complete passive be like, this
is the best quarterback in football and the Cardinals just
screwed it up for him. But get to the right spot.
To your point, like, don't go to the wrong spot.
Don't go where the most money is or the extra year.
(38:46):
Go where there's a system that will allow you to
excel and a team is capable of winning, is what
I was saying. I think that's probably a possibility for
a player of the caliber of Kyler Murray. And then
it will be interesting because you end up in a
Minnesota with a good offensive coach and all of a sudden,
you know you're in the postseason and maybe it does
just click, or you get to a good organization like
(39:08):
the Pittsburgh Steelers, uh, and maybe you do have you know,
a successful second act, so to speak with your career.

I would say he's you would have to think either
Pittsburgh or the Vikings, And I don't know. I think
if you're Pittsburgh, he's a better option than bringing Rogers back.

we are two weeks out. Their opener is two weeks
from tomorrow. Insane. Yeah, it's kind of creepy fifteen days out.
And guess what. They have question marks, as most teams do,
but the Padres have like larger font question marks than

some other teams. And the reason we bring it up
is Nick Pivetta has been pushed back for his next start.
We believe it to be Saturday, so let's react more
when he pitches this weekend. Then we have Joe Musgrove,
who has I don't know if he suffered a setback,
but we touched on this yesterday with what Kevin Acey wrote,
and you know it's not overly encouraging. They don't know
(02:49):
the next time he's going to pitch in the Caxus
League because he's dealing with the repercussions of coming off
Tommy John so he's being slowed. Let's say, you know,
Michael King. The good news is, you know, we haven't
heard a lot about Michael Kane, but we just know
where he was the last time we saw him in
twenty twenty five. So I mean, again, fifteen days is nothing.
And the whole point of Springs training is to have
(03:10):
starting pitchers built up to contribute from day one. You
don't want your bullpens going seven innings, so you want
Nick Povetta to be built up. You want Joe Musgrove
to be built up to some extent. Same thing with
Michael King. So there's my concern, just not that these
guys are going to pitch or not that you know,
all hope is lost, but that are they going to
be built up because the season starts in fifteen days.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
When do you get concerned?
Speaker 6 (03:34):
Is it just if they happen to miss time, because
this is not to be catastrophic, But this is what
we saw with you Darbish last year. You Darvish was fine, fine,
fine until he wasn't for opening day and then the
Potter's didn't see him for two to three months. So again,
maybe maybe they're precautionary simply because they know that the
top three guys are so crucial to the pottery success
(03:57):
this year, and really the only shot that they have
to make a run is those guys being healthy. But
it is concerning that if I mean, we're two weeks out,
we're already having these conversations of two there's only three
pitchers on the pottery staff starters that you feel trustworthy
about throwing out there on any given day, and now
there's concerns about two of them.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, I mean, it is a really good question. I
feel like it is concerning. It's hard to know the
full extent of concern. It's like when you're the padres,
you can backfill with your bullpen or you could more
than get by, right, your bullpen's beyond serviceable. But also
what is the impact of doing that if you're so
heavily relying on your bullpen from day one and you're saying, hey,
(04:39):
just you know, cover six innings and cover five innings
and do that until we kind of figure this out.
Oftentimes it happens there is then your bullpen isn't as
effective at some point, or you're dealing with, you know,
injuries with your bullpen along the way. So I don't know,
Like I'm not saying it's a five alarm fire, but
I'm also not saying, hey, don't call the fire department. Yeah,
you know, I mean, like, if there's smoke, you should
(05:02):
probably call the fire department or put it out. And
so that's where I am with it. It's just again,
I think some of it has a way of work
itself out. I said this, I think yesterday. I say, like, listen,
Pavetta doesn't have to replicate last year. Maybe other someone
else is better, Maybe Randy Vesque is a lot better,
or maybe you know, King is better than he was
last year because he missed time due to injury. And
(05:23):
then the number five spot isn't as impactful, so some
of it works itself out. But you can't just have
blind faith that it just works itself out. Right, Oh,
they have a good bullpen, they have a good pitching coach. O. Okay,
that doesn't automatically mean if a good team.
Speaker 6 (05:36):
It is when you kind of take a wider look
at d NL West, you take the Dodgers out of it,
we all know that the team stacked from head to toe.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
There's very few weaknesses.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
I think the only thing you could look at with
the Dodgers some of the stars getting up there in
age a little bit, Mookie Bets, Freddy Freeman, ti Oscar Hernanez,
some of those players that would I think be the
one concern if you are the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
But the rest of the rest of the teams, the
pottery is clear.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
Hole is starting pitching in that you don't know if
they have a fourth fit that you can really rely on.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
In health.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
The Diamondbacks you look at as they're gonna get burns back.
I think they have some exciting hitters in the lineup
with Marte, Corby and Carroll up and down the roster.
The bullpen was dreadful, I believe they were twenty eighth
in the MLB last year out of thirty.

And then the Giants, did they do enough because the
pitching staff of the Giants last year was pretty good,
the starting pitching staff. You felt pretty good with Robby
Ray in Logan Web, but you know, they couldn't hit.
And then they made the trade with the Red Sox.
Do you get a big slugger and they get Louis
a Rise. It is kind of funny how the three
other teams, not counting the Rockies in the NLS, So

sorry to Rocky fans, they have three other teams with
the Dodgers each have one glaring hole. The Diamondbacks the bullpen,
the Giants it's hitting, and the Potteries, I think is
starting pitching. So I'm just like, from how that plays
out through the whole year, you know, I guess what's
the worst problem to have. I'd probably say hit, probably
if you're the Giants.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
You know, that's what's the worst problem to have. Is
I mean, for me, a lot of this stuff starts
as starting pitching, Like how do you overcome having a
you know, let's say, if you have the twenty eighth
best rotation in baseball. You cannot overcome that, right, would
we agree? If you have the twenty eighth best rotation? Now,
could you overcome a bad bullpen? Also hard? But you
(07:25):
can do it with your offense, and you can do
it with good starting pitching. I think if you have
the twenty eighth best rotation, that's hard to overcome. The
Padres don't, by the way, They'll be better than that.
They have a pitcher's park, they have invested in their staff.
Barring a complete calamity, they'll have a much better rotation.

Now outside of injuries, they're gonna have a good rotation exactly.

But that's the part of it. I think that it's
the point, like I've hammered home for so long, It's
like the reason their projections don't look as good as
we think they should is because they lack depth in
terms of starting pitching options. And if you did lose
a couple of the pictures at the front of your rotation,
how can you backfill? You cannot with Apcars and Matt
Waldron or whatever other options are going to have. It's
(08:07):
just not going to look the same. It's not to
say Wals fall off and you go sixty one to
one on one that's never gonna happen. But wills fall
off and all of a sudden, you're winning eighty games
because you just can't backfill. You don't have a lot
in your system to replace with the pieces you've added.
Are all these like veteran flyers Herman Marquez, Walker, Bueller,
I mean these are falling guarantees, Griffin Cannon coming off injury,
(08:30):
these are not guarantees. So that's why to me, ceiling
remains they could win any games. I'm not going to
be shocked if they win any games. But I'm also
not gonna be shocked if if they were to fall
to that eighty threshold. Like is that some of these
projected projection sites, because what happens if the rotation is
dealing with injuries or ineffectiveness.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
Also, we all know bullpens are so fluid from year
to year. The first year the Dodgers won the World
Series gains the Yankees an amazing bullpen, terrible rotation completely flip.
Last year, Dodgers had one of the most taxed and
just worst bullpens throughout baseball and was kind of an
enigma that they ended up winning the World Series with
that bat of a bullpen the Diamondbacks. You know, it
(09:11):
is so fluid from year to year, and not to
be morbid on the potteris because I agree with you.
I think the Potter's at their best could be a
very dangerous team that does win ninety games. But we
kind of just penciled in the fact that the bullpen's
going to be great, and on paper they do look great.
I mean, even though Suarez isn't there, you still have Morojone,
Mason Miller, best closer in baseball.

I mean, you got up and down Estrada.
Speaker 6 (09:32):
I think David Morgan actually was a solid piece last
year that probably just because of how talented the bullpen was,
didn't get enough looks and will this year. But it
is a little alarming when your calling card is your
bullpen and we know that the names look at Tanner Scott,
Tanner Scott's unblieable with Pottery is terrible with the Dodgers.

The next year blows about fifteen saves for him. It
is a little nerve racking that the calling card of
the team is the bullpen and it is so fluid
from year to year.

They're showing all eighty three of BAM's points on Sports Center.
He there's multiple stretches in here where he scores ten
plus points just at the free throw line, his final

much has been made about Shade, despite him winning, despite
him winning MVP last year, despite him winning an NBA Championship,
people want to discredit him and people want to go,
he's a foul merchant. The refs are looking for contact.

large berth, but it's not highly likely they could improve
their chances. I guess with wins the next couple of
days Thursday and Friday, if they were to lose on Saturday.
But you wouldn't want to do that. And the reason
I say that, well, obviously you leave in the hands
of the committee and you're probably on the outside looking in.
And my whole belief with that is like, if you're
going to get to the conference championship game, just win

the conference championship game. At that point you've done the work.
What's the point of winning Thursday and Friday and then
leaving it in the hands of the committee. Yeah on
Saturday if you don't win. Now, I get it not
easy easy for me to say that, but it's like,
if you get on the floor on a championship day
with an opportunity to play your way in, then go
play your way in. It's right in front of you.

And with the as tags not just being in the
first four out but Lunardi a lot of people have

There's a reason why they have the second best odds
behind Utah State, And you could argue that San Diego

State is the best bet because Utah State is going
to hear their name called on selection Sunday, no matter
what happens, if they lose you tomorrow or if they
end up winning the whole thing. So with Santego State,
it is like it's hard because and I guess this
quote isn't having a take, but because of how we've
seen them go so far this year. You could see

them losing tomorrow and you could see them running through
this tournament and winning in on Saturday. But in a sense,
because it's so hard to predict predicts from game to game,
what aspect team we're getting. If we see the team
at homing at Utah State, that is I look right,
I think that's the team that all of us kind
of expected and why they were the preseason number one

voted team out of the Mount West, that team I
think destroys everyone in this field. But if you see
the team on the road against Colorado State, if you
see the team at home against Grand Canyon, and again
I'm not saying they weren't trying in those games. I mean,
obviously the other team is trying to win, but those
kind of performances are not going to cut it. So
right over three days, it is you know, if stats
would tell you how the whole season has played out,

tells you anything, is that you do kind of get
up and down performances from night to night. But if
you were to get hot, if you were to have
a BJ Davis Friday night against NLV and a couple
of your big three or Big four Miles Bird and
BJ Davis kind of really jel the next couple days,
you could see this team having a lot of success
this week.

Yeah, I mean it is interesting. I guess maybe that's
just college basketball. Also, it's like, you know, any one
team can look really good on any one day and
then they can look completely different the next Some of
that is matchup dependent as well. Also, what is the
health of the as sex I don't know heading into
this event. If you think back to Friday. Elsie Harrington
didn't play that game. He's been in out of the

lineup with a leg injury that he's battled through. Magoogwath
has been in and out of the lineup, buying large
over the last six weeks or so. So their benefit
is they've had six days since they've played. They last
played Friday, like you can catch your breath, you know,
take a take a breath in, like you could actually
breathe for a moment. And bj Davis actually touched on

this with me postcam Friday night. He's like, it's a
fine line because you don't want to lose your competitive edge,
but you do want to get healthy. But you know,
there's we'll see.

Right, It's like having a buy in the NFL or
baseball isn't good for you?

Good? And listen to your point. If they play well Thursday,
I'm gonna say it was great for him. That's all
you need to see. If they play well Thursday, I'll
say the six days were great. And if they don't
play well Thursday, it's probably one of the reasons. You'll
point to, Hey, that's six days between games. That's a
lot of time. Colorado State played the day before in
the opening round. Maybe it was to their advantage. Sometimes
that happens in sports, the team that isn't feeling the

same amount of nerves because they've kind of they've already
won in an event. I've always thought that with the
first four, you win in Dayton and you go to
Charlotte for the first round, let's say a house money.
Now you got that belief that you can win on
a neutral floor, and now you have recently played in
a high level game, so we'll know. We'll know more
in twenty eight hours.

And you feel like, if they're gonna win this thing,
you got to I touched on it yesterday a little bit.

Friday night game, if they get there, the turnaround the

Aztecs as he has for such a long time in
the Union Tribune and route to Las Vegas for this weekend, Mark,
do you subscribe to the general thought process that a
lot of people have said here recently about the Mountain
West that there are seven or eight potential champions this
weekend in this tournament.
Speaker 7 (22:53):
Although that numbers down now because UNLV beat Wyoming, so
now it's down to eighth. But yeah, I mean, that's
just kind of how the conference has been. And you know,
on the one hand, that's great to have a conference
like that, another hand, it's bad for business because they're
going to get fewer NCAA tournament bids and that translates
(23:13):
into money. And you know, when Saniel Stania for the
schools leave next year, the Mount West is going to
keep those nca turnment years. But there's not gonna be
much to keep because the conference just too close this year,
and everybody beat up on everyone else and ruined everyone
else's chances except for Utah State of getting that large berth.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Would you take Mark Ziegler's with us right now like
we're talking about with maybe you know seven or eight
teams that could win this that are still remaining in
the field. If I said take Utah State or take
everyone else, you'd go down the path of everyone else.
Speaker 7 (23:46):
Oh yeah, if you've seen Utah State play in the
last few weeks, just like New Mexico and San Diego State,
the top three teams of the league that are pretty
pretty clearly the top three have all struggled. They all
have losing records in the last four or five games,
and New Mexico's lost three of four. Saying the State
lost four or six, and Utah State had lost three
or four before they beat New Mexico in the last
(24:08):
game of the season. So I don't like the way
they're playing. I don't like the way a lot of
these teams are playing on the top part of the conference.
But teams like Colo State have been really hot. Boyd
us State has been playing pretty well lately. You know,
UNLV has has had some real flashes there. So these
teams are going to be're gonna be tough to beat.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
What do you see as the like determining factor for
San Diego State, Let's just even say Thursday. I mean
the reason I asked is, like, obviously rebounding was an
issue at New Mexico basically cost them a game at Boise,
essentially cost them a game. Now whether they see CSU
or Fresno, those aren't the same type of rebounding teams.
Certainly Coloro State can really shoot the ball. But like,
(24:53):
what's the factor you're looking at specifically with the Aztecs
when they take the floor on Thursday.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
Well, specifically that game is it's not going to be
at altitude. And when they played Colorida State two and
a half weeks ago, and four Collins, you know, five
thousand feet. They looked at their team and they have
a very very efficient offense. They're not very good defensively,
but they're very efficient offensively. They're top fifteen in the country.
And they said, let's you know, and they'd like to
play a half court game, so let's disrupt that and
(25:20):
slow that down or speed them up, I guess is
a better term. By pressing something they rarely do at altitude,
even with a deep roster. It's just so hard to
do that and sustain it. They tried it, it didn't work.
Carlo State still was able to get to their spots,
still able to get their shots, and they made them.
Now they're not going to be at altitude. They've got
ten guys healthy for this game in the rotation, and
(25:45):
I think you'll see them extend their defense selectively, not
the whole game, but they'll pick their spots, and I
think that's an advantage in this game compared to what
we saw two and a half weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
You mentioned their health and said ten will be healthy.
They haven't played since Friday, is the latest or what
are you you know considering heading into this. Obviously, Magoon
has been in and out, Elsie Harrington has been in.
Now where are they heading into this weekend?
Speaker 7 (26:10):
Well, I think you know Reese Waters, Dixon Waters and
Miles Bird both were hobbled and banged up in the
last last couple of games and have been in and
out of practice, but they're both back practicing, so I
expect to see them. Magoon has been practicing, Elsie has not,
and I would I would consider him doubtful, but he
is also you know, there's been instances where he hasn't
(26:32):
practiced and warmed up and felt okay and played, so
we may see him, but I would say it's doubtful.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
So when you look at you know, the season overall,
and I know you've written about it as well at
twenty and ten, you see it the same way most is,
which is, do you see any path other than three
wins in three days for San Diego State or even
I guess anyone other in Utah State. Is there a
path to the NCAA Tournament for New Mexico or San
Diego State without winning the conference tournament.
Speaker 7 (26:58):
Sandie State, no New Mexican, So possibly, I mean everything
would have to fall right. They would have to beat
San Diego State in the semi finals and maybe beat them,
you know, by eight or ten points fairly convincingly, and
then they would need help from the teams you know,
falling off or losing they're also on the bubble a
(27:19):
little bit ahead of them, and then they need no
bid Steelers. So there is a path for them. It's
you know, it's probably less than fifty to fifty, but
it's out there still, I think for New Mexico, I
don't think it's out there.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
For San Diego State, there was a stretch mark and
you probably know better than I do. I think you
wrote it about at some point there was a stretch
where San Diego State had maybe the top defensive efficiency
at kenpund for like six weeks. I don't know the
exact days, but you know, like from early January to
early February, they were among the best defensive teams in
the country. What's interesting here recently is I think they've
allowed eighty plus points in three straight games, including that
(27:50):
win over UNLV on Friday night. How do they get
back to where they were because it's unlikely they're going
to win three straight games allowing eighty points in the
next three games they played.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
Yeah, and it's funny. I asked Brian Dutch of that
exact question, and he said, if I knew the answer,
we would have already fixed it. He goes, I don't
know the answer. Part of it is rebounding. You know,
sometimes in some of these games, their first shot defense
has been pretty good and then they've given up the
offensive rebound, and teams typically shoot a very high percentage
(28:24):
on second chance points off of offensive rebounds because the
defense is in disarray. You know, you see a lot
of three pointers made because they're step in threes. Those
are the easiest threes to make. Teams shoot typically close
to fifty percent on those, because you're moving towards the basket.
You're not moving away or off the dribble. You're just
catching and shooting. You see the whole thing in front
of you. And so there's been a lot of that,
a lot of the easy putbacks inside, and so it's
(28:47):
a defense problem, and it's a rebounding problem. Now we're
talking about defense and rebounding. Yes, some of that's tactical,
but a large percentage of that is just effort and heart,
and that's what this team has kind of waned and
out of thought. Miles Bird's comments yesterday were really interesting.
I mean he admitted that the team has sort of
been lackadaisa coal and maybe took some games off I
(29:09):
think was a phrase he used this season, and they
lost those games. And so to me, the biggest thing
with this team is can they keep focus and urgency
for three straight games. I was a practice the last
two days. They were very urgent and very very focused.
Most I've seen them all season, probably, and so maybe
because the backs are against the wall, we'll see a
(29:31):
little bit more of that urgency. But you know, I
think the tendency for this team has kind of let well,
we'll just let our talent win, and it doesn't always
work like that in backtball, and so I think more
than tactics and extras and o's, it's just they kind
of play with part and they got to play the
whole game. They can't take plays off.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
It's a good perspective. Mark Seler from the U two
with us right now on San Diego Sports seven sixty.
You know, obviously under Brian Dusher, you look at the
success they've had in this tournament. It speaks for itself
in terms of advancing now they in last year for
the first time against Boise State, yet they still found
themselves in the NCAA Tournament. What is it about? I mean,
(30:08):
you've covered this team for a long time. What is
it about San Diego State in Las Vegas? Because whether
it's U and l A or the Thomas and Max
shoot even in the players air last year they had
a couple of wins. What is it about just the
general belief they have when they get into an event
like this.
Speaker 7 (30:22):
Yeah, I mean it's a couple of things. I think
their death helps them a lot. They're very comfortable in
that arena, in that city. They understand Vegas is a
weird place to play for a lot of teams that
don't go there a lot, say State remember goes there
almost well now every single year for a non conference,
they go there for the for the for media day,
they go there for a regular season game. They understand
(30:44):
the drill. They know where to stay, how to stay
out of the casinos and that refiltered air, and how
to kind of put those distractions aside. And they're very
good at it and they have been very good at
it all. They've also had some of the best teams
in Mount West and the best players, so that helps too.
I mean, Brian Dutch as allway sat March's for players
and few are the best players, you have a better
chance of winning. And you know, they had won seventeen

straight quarterfinal games, which I think is just an absolutely
remarkable statistics until last year when they lost to Boise State.
So you can say, well, you should have no problem
with the quarterfinal game, except you know, the one loss
was last year with many of these same players, so
it's hard to sort of use that as a gauge.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
How do you One final question for you, Mark, and
I appreciate you taking time. Maybe there's a conversation for
another day, but it's more of a resources question moving forward.
We've touched on the importance of obviously nil we know
about the unlimited transfers, we know about, you know, essentially
the widening gap between the P four and the rest
of college basketball. Is that gap further widening with resources
(31:46):
or and where will San Diego State potentially stack up
when they enter its next league, the PAC twelve come
next year.
Speaker 7 (31:55):
Yeah, that gap is enormous, and it's the powerful conferences
plus the Big East. The Big East really dropped off
this year. So it'll be interesting to see whether they
can kind of grab on and hold on and get
on the other side of that gap, or they're going
to continue to fall. But if you look around the country,
it's not just San Diego State. I think it's one
(32:15):
thing that need to understand. Yes, I think many people
consider it's a disappointing season, but no mid majors did well.
The gap is that big. Now, programs like Memphis had
an awful season. You know, there's going to be maybe
two at large bids from mid majors this year. That
would be the lowest ever since the tournament expanded in
(32:36):
twenty eleven. And so this is definitely a trend, and
I think it's going to keep continuing until there's some
sort of regulation on the amount of money that you
can spend, which I don't see in the foreseeable future.
So a program like saying State, well, they have more
resources at their disposal in the PAC twelve, maybe a
little bit more TV money, but they also have to
pay an extacy to get there, and so it could
(32:57):
be kind of a financial wash and is going to
be for the administration. Is how much red ink are
they willing to absorb and stomach because they've had some
pretty big deficits and they probably have some more going forward,
and they've got football program that they have to feed
that beast as well. So you know, for them to
(33:18):
keep up, they're going to need money. There's only so
much they can raise and can the administration find some
money or be willing to go into more dead to
give it to them? And that's kind of the question
I think that's going to have to be answered this
off season if we're going to see saying State even
approaching the same level has in the past, or kind
of falling off a little bit like so many other
(33:39):
mid majors have.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Well, it is a really interesting point, of course, heading
into a league with with Gonzaga, right which already has
its inherent advantages without having football as part of its
athletics department. Are you now right? How are you? How
are you now? Are you driving flying? Are you on
your way? Okay? Great stuff? Appreciate you taking time for

it last night and it was honestly bothering me when
I when I was watching it, was eight nothing and

then they made their comeback and then they chances to
win the game they didn't. But like I'll go as
far as to watch the US, I don't think I
can watch Italy play Mexico. Like, I just don't think
I can do it. Now, I can keep an eye
on the score, Someone tell me if the US advances
or not, Like I want to know that. I'm curious
as to what's going to happen. But to sit there

and I just I can't do it. I don't think
I can sit there for three hours and watch this thing.
I also, Brent hate rooting for something to happen that
is like outside the games, Like, well, I hope uh
Italy scores and I hope they score a lot, Like
you're not just hoping for one of the teams to win.
I guess you are. If Italy wins, the US moves on,

and then if Mexico wins, you want them to score
like five or more runs, I believe, because if they
score five or more runs, then the US is still
going to move on. So it's very confusing, and the
US has nobody to blame with themselves. They were in
position where they easily would have moved on. They could
have just one last night against Italy, and you say, well,
easier said than done. But yeah, they sat starters yesterday
(36:30):
because they thought they had moved on, and now that
could be extremely consequential obviously for them moving forward. So
we'll see, if we'll see, we'll see if the US
moves on or not. It's almost like, I mean, if
you get a second life, you better take advantage of it.
Like if the US does move on and gets the quarterfinal,
I don't want to see them go out in the
quarterfinal round or any round. At that point. It's like
(36:52):
you're given two opportunities. Essentially, if you move on the
first opportunity you basically fell flat in your face. That
was last. But if you're fortunate enough to move on,
regardless of that, you have to win from that point forward,
like you have to get to the final, is what
I would say.

The other NFL story, we've been talking about Max Crosby
who was dealt to the Ravens, but he wasn't over
the last seventy two hours. And then today we learn
another huge NFL story is that the Cardinals did officially
release Kyler Murray, who's been with them. I don't know,
since he was drafted what with the first pick overall
a number of years ago. So there's going to be

I guess the sweepstakes here for Kyler Murray. What are
the what are the options for Kyler Murray in terms
of landing spots? Is Minnesota? What are the possible land
of spots? Pittsburgh? Obviously, with what we've talked about with
Aaron Rodgers is that you.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Know, technically the Jets, but you know, I said that
one day when you're gone, why the hell would you want.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
To go there?
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Typically when you're in a bad situation with it, you
don't want to go an organization yet you don't want
to go someplace worse.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Yeah, exactly. But what's interesting about Kyler Murray, and we've
made this point a little bit this week, is that
there are examples recently of quarterbacks in the NFL getting
that second lease on life and taking advantage of it.
Not always, but I feel like more now than we
had seen previously. Like I'm thinking about Baker Mayfield, I'm
thinking about obviously, Sam Darnold comes to mind recently, Like
(38:23):
Kyler Murray has been a very good player at times
and I think it's very easy to put it more
in the organization than the player. Some of it's on
the player, make no mistake. I mean, I'm not going
to give Kyler Murray a complete passive be like, this
is the best quarterback in football and the Cardinals just
screwed it up for him. But get to the right spot.
To your point, like, don't go to the wrong spot.
Don't go where the most money is or the extra year.
(38:46):
Go where there's a system that will allow you to
excel and a team is capable of winning, is what
I was saying. I think that's probably a possibility for
a player of the caliber of Kyler Murray. And then
it will be interesting because you end up in a
Minnesota with a good offensive coach and all of a sudden,
you know you're in the postseason and maybe it does
just click, or you get to a good organization like
(39:08):
the Pittsburgh Steelers, uh, and maybe you do have you know,
a successful second act, so to speak with your career.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
I would say he's you would have to think either
Pittsburgh or the Vikings, And I don't know. I think
if you're Pittsburgh, he's a better option than bringing Rogers back.
You know, yeah, I think I'd rather take a flyer on,
you know, a second chance Kyler Murray at his age,

than you know, a fourth chance Aaron Rodgers his old age.
