Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kyle Olsen in the Midwestern The Midwestern or Dot News.
It's a free for all Friday. We'll hear from you
here in a moment. But first up Kyle on the line.
Good morning, sir, welcome in.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
I think we're in the wrong business. I think we
should be selling flags.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
You and I. We could make a killing, man.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I mean, but you've gotta you have to be able
to anticipate what their next cause is going to be tough.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
How how do you do that?
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I mean, you know, it's like you just never know
where they're going, and it could spend at a moment's notice.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Well, I understand they're they're maybe there's a little more
planning goes on to it.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Then we then we realize, Kyle, because you know, they
come in with the poster boards and the T shirts
and everything and all that takes time to brent. So
maybe they get a little more, uh a little more
heads up than we do.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, yeah, and it's I mean, go back to the
end of Brahmadan and how many governors and senators did
we see We're wearing jobs and supposedly, you know, celebrating
that it's very strange because there's got to be some
memo that goes out and says this is how, this
(01:06):
is what we're going to talk about. This is how
we're going to talk about it, so then they're all
on the same page.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
It really is something, it really is speaking of which
never a dull moment, never a shortage of things for
us to talk about here today. If we shift our
eyes back to Michigan particularly, we've seen some wild things
in the last week, and one of them was Senate candidate.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Coming out and well.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
I guess the video audio was leaked of him in
a meeting saying, you know, I'm not going to get
a statement out on our und because you're a lot
of people on Deerboard who are sad that the Ayah
Toola is dead.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Today. Boy, it's been a wild week for that. We
saw that.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
We'll get your reaction to that here in just a moment.
And then on top of it, proving even more so
that elections have consequences if you don't don't tell me, folks,
because if if you don't realize and take a strong
focus on what's happening here, we're going to get another
slocking in the in the in the in one of
those states, Slocking is at it again, talking about, oh,
(02:13):
he might see ice at polling places?
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Why is that a worry?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Isn't that strange? This is She's not the only Democrat
that is saying this as some sort of warning, I guess,
and I and I think most people would listen to that,
would they would hear that statement because she's she's, you know,
worried that ice may be at polling locations. And I
think to myself, well, what would that indicate? It indicates
(02:42):
what citizen would worry about ice being at polling locations.
If you're a citizen who is registered to vote and
you have the right to vote, what do you have
to be worried about? And and I think what she's
sort of indicating is, I mean, maybe there's illegal aliens
that are voting and there she's concerned that they won't
(03:03):
show up to vote. I'm not really sure what she
is so concerned about.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, it does bring that It's a really great question.
Why are you worried, madam about this? Unless unless there's
something more than meets the eye there, And you.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Know, you know, it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
It also I think puts a spotlight on maybe they
should be Maybe they should be it's polling places, maybe
there's some other places they should be. In fact, you
saw how well it worked when Ice went to the airports. Boy,
they cleaned thing up. They were handing out water bottles, Kyle,
they were handing telling people, hey, we'll stand in line
for you if you want to while you go to
the bathroom. As the Democrats shut down and wouldn't pay TSA,
(03:45):
and of course it was a nightmare for people trying
to fly and get across the country. It absolutely was incredible.
And so you wonder in the situation like that, maybe
maybe there's some other places we should be.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
He should be sitting wow her at it.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
You know, it's it was interesting to see how quickly
the TSA issues were rectified because Ice was there. But
then also there's Democrats coming out and saying that it's
illegal to pay them. When Trump said he wanted to
pay TSA agents, they said it's illegal to do that.
(04:24):
So but it' what Slackin is doing is she's one
of these democrats. I think that Trump can do no right,
and she's going to just be She's going to be
putting out endless videos I saw she's got another video
where she called on wartime generals to save to protect democracy,
which I'm not really sure what that means, but you know,
(04:47):
there's I'm sort of wondering if she's putting these things
out because she knows it's going to get a reaction
and it's going to get her coverage and attention, because
she clearly is up to something. And she was on
Bill Maher and she was talking about why she no
longer is taking APEC donations, and Bill Maher and Stephen A.
(05:08):
Smith weren't really buying what she was saying. But and
she loves to in case she didn't know she was
a CIA agent.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah, she loves to tell us about that.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
About that insite that. Yes, And but the takeaway from
that was that she was in the CIA, and she
knows how to craft these provocative arguments, she knows how
to message, she knows exactly what she's doing, and she
clearly is up to something.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Kyle Olson at the Midwester of the Midwesterner dot News
this story that was kind of interesting today shared on
acts by Donne Detroit Now. He says Michigan's population grew
one point four percent in the last ten years, the
number of state employees grew seventeen percent. Total stage spending
grew forty three percent. Do you forty three percent better
(06:02):
than you did ten years ago? By the way, saying
California isn't the only state with a Democrat problem, sharing
that with the nation, and you know, those stats are interesting.
I just I think it brings a good point. Do
you feel like you're getting your money's worth? And of
what they're doing in Lansing, the Democrats, and of course,
uh Whitmer, who's been in charge nearly the last decade.
(06:26):
It's it's kind of absurd.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Are your roads forty three percent better? I was, I drove.
I live in the Skiing County and I drove to
Grand Rapids last night, and I mean, there's a section
of potholes that if you don't see it, you your
car is going to be destroyed. And I was on
ninety six again this morning and it was daylight so
I could see them. But the roads are not forty
(06:51):
three percent better. I don't think anybody can say how
how their life is better because of all of this spending.
And Whitmer, I mean she again this year proposed an
eighty eight billion dollar budget, and she proposed again a
record budget eighty eight point one billion dollars, and what
(07:12):
are we getting for that money? And accept more growth,
more employees. The the House Republicans are saying that there's
still more of these ghost employees that they need to eliminate,
while Whitmer is trying to add more employees. So it
is a it's an endless task to try and rain
(07:33):
all of this in. And that's why if there's a
Republican governor in the next you know, next year, it
is a tall order to try and get all of
this under control.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Kyle Olson, as the founder at the Midwestern or the
Midwesterner dot news, I know you're working on stories obviously,
trying to keep up with everything happening across the the
Mitten and and beyond. It's a it's an everyday, full
time job. What are you working on coming up that
folks ought to keep on?
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Well? Look out, Yeah, these these statewide races are in
a way are sort of coming to a head because
petitions are due later in April, which I guess it
is April, isn't it, And so petitions are due in
about three weeks and that is going to then determine
who makes the ballot. It's going to be interesting to see.
(08:25):
Obviously there's been a lot of coverage of what happened
in twenty twenty two, and it's going to be interesting
to see who, you know, collects valid signatures to make
it on the ballot. So we're following that and then
these just and then obviously the the Democrat primary on
the Senate. In the Senate race is wild and it's
(08:45):
getting wilder, and it's gonna there's a long time between
now and the August primaries, so it's going to be
interesting to see how it all plays out.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Hey, what did you make before I let you go?
Speaker 1 (08:59):
You know, what did you make of the convention with
the Republicans last week? And it looks like there's some
unity behind some interesting candidates.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah, it's interesting there the two candidates that were nominated,
Tony Forlini and Doug Lloyd bring a lot of experience
to the table. It looks to me like they're solid
conservatives and but they have you know, they have experience
uh you know, uh doing elections and prosecuting crime. So
(09:34):
I think that they are are you know, solid candidates
that the Democrats are going to have to respond to
The Democrats have their nominating convention later this month in April,
and and there's some they have some candidates that have
significant baggage and it will we'll see what direction they
(09:55):
decide to go.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, something we'll keep an eye on for you, as
the folks at the Midwestern are always do. By the way,
