Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good friend Tony Feline's running for a secretary of state
right now, the McCombe County clerk currently. So you talk
about somebody's got a finger on a pulse of how
all of this works and what elections should look like,
and by the way, we'll talk about that, but also, hey,
what about because you know, the secretary of State does
a lot more than just elections. There's a whole there's
(00:23):
a whole series of other things that they do as well.
That conversation starts to get even more serious as we
moved toward the general and we welcome him on to
congratulate him and say congratulations sir as the nominee for
the Republican Party as a secretary of State.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Big win, just I guess a weekend or.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
So back, Yes, Justin. It was a surprisingly convincing win,
and it was very humbled by it. I didn't expect
it to happen in the first round the way it did,
but it did, and I'm very satisfied with the results.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
You know, it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
We talked with Doug Lloyd, prosecutor and Eaton County is
running for Attorney General and Republican as well, and it
seemed like this convention. Uh, you know, it just seemed
as though things went uh smoother than anticipated.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Maybe it is the best way to put it in.
There seems to be a lot of unity right now.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Yeah, it was. It was very nice to see. And
I think that's kind of the tone that both Doug
and I had as we were traveling the state and
even with my secretary state counterparts that were running Hey, listen, man, listen,
this is we are a family here. We need to
stay together. And conventions then on a certain day and
(01:36):
my message was words last forever. So let's let's just
do it right. Let's let's talk about what we can
do as a as a party, what we can do
as a team, and let's put the insult aside. And
I think that carried over to convention.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah, it seems like, uh, there was that that And
now there'll be a chance obviously to in August pick
that that candidate who will will be on the ticket
for the governor and things really start to heat up
in this election. We've got a massive race for Senate,
We've got other races in the House and the Senate.
There's a chance for Republicans really to reunite here and
(02:12):
come together and take Michigan back into the direction I
think folks want to see. It's been a really wild
ride the last nearly ten years now as Democrats have
been in control. Would like to see the adults back
in the rooms, so to speak. What are you looking at?
What are the most important issues as a candidate for
secretary of State? Obviously election security and integrity. As somebody
(02:35):
who came out and said, wait a minute, there are
people on these roles and also on the jury duty
roles who are not citizens. And the only reason we
know is they've come and told us this. You did
your own investigation and shown a big spotlight on this.
This is shocking for a lot of people, but it
sounds like something that would be a big initiative you'd
(02:59):
be to take on as a secretary of State.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Oh you got to believe it. You know, we did
a lot in the comb County of a blocking and tackling.
We put rhetoric aside, and he says, all right, what
do the citizens need to know? And they need to
know that our citizens are the only ones voting, and
we need to make sure that our jury pool, which
I'm in charge of, is clean. We want to make
(03:23):
sure election integrity holds true. We want to make sure
our service is good. You know, we have a turnaround
time in our clerk's office of under four minutes they're served,
and under ten minutes throughout the door, and that is
something that's unheard of with the population of eight hundred
and fifty thousand. That's the kind of stuff that I
think the people of Michigan are looking for. They're not
(03:46):
looking for a political answers. They're looking for answers. They
want people that are competent, that they can trust, and
they provide the service that we are being entrusted to provide.
And that's been my mesa. It's just the very beginning.
So I'm just telling you that this is what we're
going to focus on and just being the citizen that
(04:07):
they are looking for, the leader that they're looking for
that provides that kind of a service to all people
in our society. So yeah, they're looking for competence, integrity,
you know.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
And I got to tell you one of the things
that that and I just went through this last year,
but you know, the Secretary of State office does a
lot more than just elections. That's a big deal. Obviously,
that's probably the biggest deal. But you know when we
come into contact most of us come into contact with them,
it's it's probably when we got to get a license
(04:40):
or get our tabs done or something along those lines.
That's the thing that I think that most people have
that connection to and watching how things run there should
give us a.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Good look into how things run behind the scenes with elections.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Well, Tandece Miller, who was Secretary of State several years ago,
said exactly that. She says when Hell was in office,
it was about providing a better service at the for
the the the car dealers, a better service for the
average citizen that get their tabs and their license plates.
It was very little to do with elections. And I
(05:15):
think the hanging Chad that the problem that they had
in Florida brought a lot of this to light and
started changing the direction of how we look at elections.
And you know sixteen hundred employees or so that the
Sancretuary state has, I think they only have eighty feign elections.
So you can see where the priorities are in that
office as they maybe should be providing the service, the
(05:38):
day to day services that.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
The people in the state of Michigan are looking for
Anthony for Lanning's with us right now. He's running for
Secretary of State as a Republican here in Michigan is
obviously the Macomb County Clerk. And you know, talking about
those differences that need to be made, Okay, I saw
we've had a big and a unifying convention for Republicans
(06:00):
on one hand, and then we looked to the other
hand and Democrats are set to have their convention.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
We got news. I found it quite interesting.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
But they have a special guest who's coming to speak
at their convention. It'll be former Vice President Kamala Harris,
which I find to be a guess. They're going to
get things ready with the salad bar there. She'll be
serving up all you can eat word salads at their convention.
But it really is interesting because it shows us stark
(06:31):
contrast between I think winners and losers in one hand,
and where the direction really is that these two parties
want to go.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Yeah, well, I found that interesting too, and I'm not
sure how to take it, and I'm not sure what
their thoughts are, but you know, I wish a monk
in their convention and whoever they put forward we're going
to be ready for it. Yeah, so you know, you've
got Garland gill Crust, who's guts name wide recognition across
the state, which would would be vulnerable, I would think,
(07:03):
you know. And so then they got a couple other
players in this also, and we'll see how that all
plays out.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Anthony for Lany is the Secretary of STAD candidate for Republicans.
Folks want to maybe meechin have conversations with you in person.
What's the best way for them to do that. Obviously
you get the website up and running, but maybe they
want to come and have some conversations while you're on
the road.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Absolutely, you'll listen. We've crossed the state before the convention,
just the week before, but twenty two hundred miles on
my car, and so when I heard you talking about
gas prices, I can't wait for them to go down.
Hopefully it'll happen in the next couple of days. But
if they want to get a hold of me, certainly
send me an email at info at Anthonyforlini dot com
and we'll reach out. And we've been Chris crossing the
(07:49):
state and will continue to do so.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Looking forward to the latest. Absolutely and welcome back. Anytime
you have any news or just want to share with us.
Thank you, sir, appreciate you as always, thank you for
taking the time.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
You got a.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Secretary of State candidate for the Republicans, Anthony for Leny.
He's the Macomb County Clerk. And the latest as we
dig into this, I think is just election is going
to be. As I mentioned, it's going to be the
most critical for the state of Michigan.
