Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Colorado Buffaloes are in Orlando a day earlier than
expected due to Hurricane Helene. That storm could impact their
Saturday game against Central Florida.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
There are bloodies concerns there as well. We're talking a
flood watch in effect here as we're looking really for
Thursday and a Friday. It's going to be the biggest impact.
So it's good that they got there early and they're
kind of hunkering down.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
That's Fox thirty one meteorologist Kylie Burst.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
We had to Orlando now with amateur meteorologist Dan voice
of the Buffaloes, that'd be Mark Johnson to Mark, are
you seeing rain and weather right now in Orlando?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
You know, I hate to disappoint, but it's relatively quiet
here in Orlando. Marty. We got here last night and
there was no rain last night, and this morning we
wake up, we've got clouds. And in fact, I was
joking with our own Shannon Statu towards your Texical producer
every day, who's our engineer? He said, I tell you what.
When he talked to Marty, he said, I'll be willing
to stand behind you with a hair darm blowing on you.
(00:50):
So what it sounds like there's this right now, Like
I said, right now, as I look at my hotel window,
I've got clouds, there's no rain falling and just a
little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
He's out there and Mark, we were talking to Kylie
Bursse earlier earlier, and she's saying, there could be some
major flooding there in your area. Are you all prepared
for that?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Now? Yeah? I think so. I mean, you know, we
came out here a day early obviously, as we just
heard the meteorologist say there, and kind of the thought
was because we were thinking about coming out on Thursday.
But I know the administration sat down kind of talked
to the meteorologists and the people out here at Central
Florida and said, what do you think is best? And
they said, well, if you come in early, get ahead
of it. That way, if it does kind of get
(01:28):
this area, you'll be hunkered down on the resort that
you're staying in. And if you try to come late,
you know, there might be some questions am I getting
in here? And so that was the reason that we
came out early. But you know, we talked to folks
at the resort here last night and they said, don't worry,
We've got plenty of food, and so however full, we
got a hunkered down here, We're going to be just fine.
And the general thought seems to be here with the
(01:49):
folks in the Orlando areas that by the time game
day rules around, we're going to be dealing with rain,
but the worst of the worst is going to be over.
As you know, Hurricane Helene kind of heads inward.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I was going to say, imagine, there's this strategy. Are
there contingency plans? Mark, if for some reason this game
doesn't go out because of the weather. Were there talks
about would you replay it and find a space for
it later if if for some reason doesn't get played?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Well, Marty was interesting when I talked to the folks
with UCF, and then all week long I was kind
of talking with they're played by play voice and talked
to some of their administration. I just said, well, you know, what,
what are we looking at here? They seem supremely confident
that there was no way it was going to affect
game day, and so you know, as one of them said, listen,
we come your direction. You can tell us about snowstorms.
(02:31):
When you come our director, we'll tell you about hurricanes.
They were very confident when I talked to them by Monday,
you know, on Monday afternoon, that that they didn't feel
there was any real danger that the game is going
to have to be moved.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Well, if the game does happen, Mark, you, what are
you projecting here? I know that UCF is pretty heavily
favored here, but can the Buffs pull this.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
One on Throll? It's going to be interesting. It's a
very contrasting styles kind of game. You see up the
number one rushing team in America three hundred and seventy
six yards per ball game, the Buppalos, I think number
six or seven passing offenses. So you've got two very
extremely different offensive styles going in and both defenses are
ranked roughly the same area from an angel standpoint, and
(03:10):
so it'll be a physical, old school ground game versus
kind of a new thing fangled, you know, passing attack
for Colorado, and so very different types of ball games
in this one, and so I think it's going to
be interesting in that regard. They've got one of the
top running backs in the country in R. J. Harvey,
Shadura Sanders, one of the top quarterbacks in the country,
and so really going to be I think an interesting
(03:31):
storyline going into this ball game, whether or notwithstanding by
the way I was.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Going to say, but the big difference maker is Travis Hunter.
No one has a Travis Hunter. I would think he's
worth it, though, I got to admit when I saw
the line, what is it? Fourteen points? That's that's a
lot of I mean, are are they that concerned? They
don't think SeeU the Nation is that good? Or do
they think UCF is pretty good?
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I think what they're thinking is that that ground game
is going to be tough for Colorado to stop. Now,
the bus much improved offensively over a year ago. But
but I think that seems to be what what people
are wondering about. King Colorado hunk her down and tighten
up the chin stramps and and and really slow down
that ground game for Gus mill Zone and the Golden
Knights on Saturday. I think that's what is the biggest
question mark for people. And talking with the defensive coordinator,
(04:12):
Rob Livings and the last night when we got here to
the hotel, he thinks they've got a pretty good game
plan against that rushing attack.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
And you know, let's let's talk about last week just
real quick. I know you were there, Mark, we were
all watching at home as you know that hail Mary
pass in the rain. What was going through your mind
when that reception was made there?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Well, well, you remember the play before that, Sure Standards
threw a long pass to the five yard linder Will Shepherd,
who dropped it. He couldn't hold onto it. I thought
when that happened, I thought, well, the game's over. I
mean that that was their opportunity. You're not going to
get more than that kind of opportunity. But silly me,
I guess I underestimated shaduur Standers, who seems to come
up with you know, magic Laton Bowl games, and so
they finally connect then ultimately with the Lejonta Wester and
(04:51):
then you got to kick the pat and then you
got to get overtime. It's amazing. Gary Barnett, my partner,
always says college football never disappoints, and that was one
of the most unex back to the improbable kind of
comebacks that I've ever called them. Thirty five years of
doing this and Sower, the Bubbalos are three and one
coming into this ball game.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Now gonna be gonna be an interesting game. My friend,
Glad you're there covering it, Stay safe, stay dry, okay,
all right, Voice of the Buffalo's that is Mark Johnson.
I guess our game cover starts at and that's my
pahlt eleven thirty eleven thirty that we'll have it here
on KOA. So it should be interesting if it does
go off. Should be an interesting game. Yeah. I think
it's a Fox National game too, if I recalled it again.
(05:27):
All right, your son, so you can, we'll check in
with him. Yeah, so Tom Junior, No, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
It's Tyler.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Tyler there you go, will you can checking in and
get an update there. But it should be interesting if
it goes off.
