Speaker 1 (00:00):
We got Rockies Baseball coming up at the top of
(00:01):
the hour. Rocky's looking for another series win. Love hearing that.
Earlier we talked a little bit about Michigan beating Yukon
in the National Championship. R Kway Tournament updates are presented
by Expinity and Dave Smith Motors, low prices that are
hard to beat, a Ramjeep, GMC and Chevrolet again five
six six nine zeros are Kwa Common Spirit Hill text Line.
(00:22):
The Nuggets, by the way, hanging in there at the
number three seed. They won't play again until tomorrow night.
But yeah, they are currently as I pulled this up
here for just a moment, by my tabs, they are
a half game up on the LA Lakers, who once
again are in dire strait.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
I saw something. Is Lebron shutting it down? That I
see that? Yeah, yeah, he's out tonight. I'm saying that
he's shutting it down. Okay, but I mean with foot sword.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yes, you're going to be playing thirty eight minutes in
the playoffs every single game every.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Day, man, not just in the playoffs the rest of
the regular season. They're gonna be working Lebron like a dog.
Take a day off while you can, because once this
playoffs hit, you are the team now until you can
get Luca back, you are the team. You are the
team's only hope and making it to the next round.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Now they are. So they're right now at the four seed.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
They are one game up on Houston, Okay, and they've
got four games to play. So I guess, I mean,
does it I mean, I guess it kind of matters
if you're the four of the five because you get
the home court, right, So, I mean that does matter.
But they're pretty much locked in to be either the
four or the five. So is the rest of Lebron
(01:45):
and trying to get your I don't know whatever you're
going to be in the postseason right now?
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Is that worth more than trying to hang on.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
To the four seed? I no, I mean you're gonna be.
I still say you're gonna be without Doncic and maybe
because I don't think they'll get out of the first
round of the playoffs and I don't think he'll be
ready to play in the first round of the playoffs. Reeves,
I don't think with the oblique, I mean that could
(02:12):
be as long as Dauncic.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
So I don't think it matters whether you're four or five.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
You just want to You want to have Lebron as
healthy as you possibly can. So I would rest him
as long as I needed to, because if you're five, okay,
you got to win a game in Houston, Yeah, and
hole Court in LA.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I don't think they beat Houston without Doncic or Reeves.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
No, not a change, no way.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
But you know, when you talk about, you know, trying
to position yourself, you know, then you can kind of
disrupt the flow of how the season has been going.
And the idea obviously is to win as many games
as possible. But at the end of the year, you know,
you got to try to work on positioning. But I
just think you just got to roll with whatever you get.
(02:57):
I'm not a believer of trying to position yourself because
you've already putting yourself in that mindset. And I just
believe that you have to go out there and just
try to win every game because it's hard to turn
it off and then turn it back one and turn
it off, turn it back one, and I get it.
You can sit there and try to sit people like
you know, but you have to you have to play games.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Let me ask you about last night's game with the Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Is that more encouraging because we've seen games like that
all season long, like the Utah Jazz game a few
weeks ago, where they it looks like you were going
to lose the entire way and then finally in the
fourth quarter they just mustard up enough to get past them.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
But even they weren't very thrilled about that.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Last night, you were down sixteen to the fourth quarters,
you pointed out against Portland, you find a way to
come back and win that game. Is that encouraging to
you because you have the medal to do something like that,
or is it a little bit discouraging because this is
a team you probably should be able to put away.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
No, Portland's playing great.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
I mean, Portland was eight and two of the last
ten coming in so they and they've been on a heater.
They've got some great young scorers. So I mean, I
thought there'd be a little bit of a letdown because
of the game on Saturday, the overtime win against San Antonio.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
I mean, they're down twelve going into the fourth.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
It required a herculean effort by the Nuggets to force
an overtime, then you got to play another five minutes
and find a way to win.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
So I thought they would be, if not.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Flat, maybe not at that peak because it's it's damn tough,
almost impossible to accomplish that. So I think it's a
plus for them that in a game that they had
every sort of opportunity to say, listen, it's just not
our night. We're still worn out from Saturday. You're sixteen
(04:38):
down with eight minutes to go, and they still found
a way to come back and win against a team
that has been playing really good basketball.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
I think to me that's a plus. Hey, a win
is a win, a win is a win.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
And they were down sixteen in the fourth and so
the idea and the message I would have for the
players is we see how we can play. You know,
we got the win. Yeah it was close to the
and well we expected, but we see how good we
can be. We just have to do that all the time.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
I guess I sort of equated a bit to the
way the Broncos were winning last year, right, And maybe
this is a terrible way to bring these two topics together,
But last year, Dave, we heard over and over and
over again, how the Broncos, though they were winning and
they were winning close right eleven to one score games,
they weren't putting away the teams that they were supposed
(05:28):
to quote unquote pro way like, they weren't just dominating
where meanwhile, teams like the Patriots were winning. They were
they were winning those games by multiple scorers, and people
had more faith and belief. And that's why Drake May
was an MVP front runner versus the Broncos who were winning.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
They won more games, but.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
It wasn't impressive to people because they weren't dominating quote
unquote lesser opponents. So that's where I say, Okay, is
that a picture of who they are as in this
is what we should expect on them in the postseason?
And even though they only got one game with bon
Nicks or is this something that's just it just happened
to be the way? Is it win win?
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Who will say not? Well, people say they tell you players,
players and say, all win.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Hey, if I walk out one to oh, I don't
care how I got there. That's all that matters is
we leaving this game one and oh it could be
the ugliest game possible. We figured out the end, Hey, guys,
we had a lot to work on, but hey, want
to know, see you on Tuesday, you know what I mean?
Like all that, like that Wednesday on Wednesday, to see
you on Wednesday. Like That's the only thing that matters
(06:27):
to players is getting the win. And you know, obviously
talking can't see something to talk about. Even though with
the Broncos, we could talk all the time about how
one score game is, Hey, they wanted, didn't they It
could completely go the other way and we'd be talking
about how the Broncos had the lead and then lost it,
but or they were losing and they didn't and they
(06:48):
didn't give a fourth quarter comeback all that stuff, and
all that matters is later in the season, that experience
is going to come come back to help you at
maybe a very opportune time when you need in the playoffs,
you're down ten in the fourth even like God, if
we've been here before, we got this, we're gonna get
it done. Then that's the belief part of it. They're
(07:10):
getting that belief system right. So now if they're ever
in this situation again, they're never going to give up.
They know they can do it. And because they did
it during the regular season, and they're going to keep
doing it. He's absolutely right.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Well, I mean, I agree with that sensement. I certainly
made a similar argument with the Broncos last year. Like
I said, I just I've seen some fans, some Nuggets fans,
pointing to this as reasons why they don't believe this
team can go all the way.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Is they're just not putting away teams that they should
put away.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Well, that's silly. I mean, that in and of itself
is silly. Again, Portland has been a pain in the
ass for a lot of teams lately. They've been playing
very good basketball.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
What about losing to Memphis like last month.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Or yeah, that's that's not a good that's not a
good loss. I mean, the Nuggets are The Nuggets are
going to finish third and then I think as long
as everybody's healthy, everybody can stay healthy and or get healthy,
I think they're going to make a run in this
(08:15):
thing that they're capable of winning the West and going
to the finals, and the winner of the West I
think will be favored over anybody out of the East
in the finals. But I'm telling you the Nuggets are
capable of doing that. I think, I mean I picked
them to do that back in December, and it's been
(08:36):
There have been some frustrating moments.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
There have been some guys get injured.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
It's like, man, oh man, can anybody else not get
injured on this team. I understand the frustration in that
regard when they're playing, man, you know, they've got grit
and really good offensive skill. The thing for them will
be how do they play defense at a crucial time
because their offense, you know, Cam Johnson has stepped up,
(09:01):
Brown's starting to hit a couple shots. Christian Brown ag
is dependable on both ends of the court, and you
know what you're gonna get from the Joker and from
Jamal so I, man, just get to the end of
the season. Don't get anybody else nicked up. Peyton Watson,
you know, get him healthy and ready to go, and
(09:21):
then they make a run.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Yeah, versus the name of the game, and the Nuggets
have had a lot of it at this point in
the year going into the playoffs soon, and I think
that's going to actually be their biggest strengths is that
they've dealt with so much stuff throughout the year. They've
had to play so many different lineups. People in out.
You've gotten to see stuff out of certain players Jalen Pikett.
(09:43):
Like all these guys who which usually don't play that
much for you, you know what you can get out
of them now. And that's the best thing that's happened
to the Nuggets. They have to learn how to live
without Ag. They have to learn how to live without Joker,
and they figured it out. I think this guy's limit
for this team like that, That right there scares me
(10:04):
if I'm every other team is because this team has
found ways to win without their best players, and they're
going to continue to find ways to win with their
best players. So they've done it in times where they
don't even have their best scorers. So I'd be terrified
if I'm any other team. If I got to play
this team, it's a close game, it's over for you.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yeah, converseonally.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I guess for a moment, Oklahoma City keeps blowing out teams.
They barely even play fourth quarters, it seems like most
of the time, so they may not know what that
feels like. Again, they won a championship last year, so
we'll will ultimately see. I did want it for a
moment before we hit the bottom of the hour I
wanted to.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
I know we don't do a lot of mock drafts here.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
So before we lose our minds, I'm not going to
go through an entire mock draft. But Peter Schrager puts
out two mock drafts every year, and it's usually more
of like what he's hearing more so.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Than like, this is who I like like go into
this team type of thing. So it's like where Milk
Kuiper tends to do.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
The I'm you know, I want this guy to go
to this team because it would be fun. Peter figure saying, oh,
I'm hearing these kinds of things, so quick overview a
couple of things obviously for Nana Mendozo going at the top,
David Bailey going to the Jets there at the second pick,
which is a little bit earlier than I've seen most mocks.
Jeremiah Love going to Tennessee at four, Sunny Styles going
(11:23):
to Washington just in case you care about this, the
Giants at five. Francis Malanoa, the offensive tackle from Miami.
The one that that really piqued my interest right here
is Jordan Tyson, the wide receiver at Arizona State. It's
coming off of some signific significant handstring injuries. He's torn
other ligaments before, but he's considered one of the biggest
(11:45):
boombust picks in the draft and he's going to Kansas
City at nine here.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
So the question your mock had the Giants taking a
tackle at five. Yeah, offensive tackle.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
And they had that makes no sense. They just sign
a lumin or back and they have.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Thomas.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Yeah, that makes no sense. How do you know so
much about the James. I know a lot about every team.
I'll tell you that I know a lot about every team,
and obviously I play these teams. That's why I think
maxer are ridiculous, because that right there makes no sense.
They just pay the right tackle. The left tackle is
a premier left tackle, but we're gonna go with our
(12:25):
high draft pick and draft to tackle. Obviously, these guys
don't do much recent Well this is.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
But this is, like I said Peter Scheger, which is
a little bit different because he is doing this based
on intel. This isn't even so much a fit so
much as he's just saying, this is what I'm hearing
that they're interested in. So for what it's worth, But
the question I have for you guys is with a
first round pick, especially when they're at nine. When you're
talking about a boom Bus player, are you of the
mindset the Broncos aren't drafting one this year? I'm I'm
(12:54):
swing for the fences. Is it depending a bit on
what your roster is constructed? As I tend to be
more of a high floor. I want like players I
know can play and feel pretty good about that. I mean,
if you're nine there for the Chiefs, that feels like
a bit of a risk taking a guy that may
not play well.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I think, I think if you're Kansas City, you probably
have to factor in their need for a wide receiver.
So maybe it's a reach in some people's minds, but
sooner or later they've got to start factoring in some
some receivers.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
That are going to be able to help ma Homes.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
I mean that's you know, so, I mean, I hadn't
thought one second about what the Chiefs might do. But
he's a good I mean, he's a good player. I
had a chance to see a couple of games. Impressive
impressive wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Do you like him more than Carnal Tate?
Speaker 3 (13:51):
I haven't studied both of them, and I'm not going
to sit up here and act like I have Tates.
I mean, I like Tate and he's around some great
players and so he gets it. He he looks like
he's another one of those guys. But I have not.
I don't know who I would take first. Tates projected
(14:12):
to go higher he is. He actually goes after Jordan Tyson.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Yeah, because I was assuming that I would see the
Chiefs probably try to trade up, they get a receiver,
because that's you know, that's the Chiefs m O. They like,
if they like the guy, they're going to jump to
go get them.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
And yeah, they they're pick of either wide receiver in
this mock, and they went with Tyson over Tate.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Now, I just have a hard time believing that that
those two guys will be there at nine.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Like, well, if the Giants take offensive tackle, I mean
that's I mean, you're helping out the Chiefs there.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Yeah, I just you know what he would need the
offensive tackle. He would need a veteran defensive tackle to
show him the ropes in training camp, and whomever that might.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Be makes a lot of sense. Yeah, you help me
get acclimated to the NFL.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
I uh, Caleb Downs who is projected by some people
to be the best player in this draft. Some people
to safety out of Ohio States. He falls away to
the Cowboys at twelve. So Jerry Jones would be doing
backflips even in his advanced age, if he got Caleb
Downs at twelve.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
He says, was mess like he has some chronic knee
issues or eighty years old.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
He's like, well, you get to eighty and see what
you're feeling.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
No, but yeah, so that guy has been a dominant
college player.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
For three years. Oh, he's about three years.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
If dominant college football. So that's another surprising one.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Well, you know.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Safeties though, but that's that's why the issue. Safeties don't
usually go top ten.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
That's right. Yeah, mean you've got to be on another level.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
And I thought, I think Caleb Downs, to be honest,
should be in that conversation. But you're right, there are
some teams. Why don't we think that, as Dave, Why
why do you think teams I always say devalue safety,
but they just don't view that as a player. You
tend to take very high in the draft, Like we
feel like we're in an era of football where you
want high level dbs at every position.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Yeah, there's more.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
I mean, there's more of a premium to get a
high level corner because more times than not, you know, the.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Best wide receivers in the.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
World are guys that play outside in your corners matchup
against them.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Safeties, I mean.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
I think they would take guys that they felt like
were generational guys. But I but I think, I mean,
it's a little bit like running back. If I mean,
love is going to go very, very high.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
But over the last.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Handful of years, the running backs come back a little bit.
But there was a time period not long ago in
which they the NFL, I think the conventional wisdom was,
and man, we can get a good running back late second,
mid third, early four, you know, because there's so many
of them, and we're not going to expend a first
(17:07):
round pick on a running back unless he's a generational
talent because they burn out, they run themselves into and
out of the league with too many carries. I think
a little bit of that thinking is also applicable to safeties.
There's a lot of safeties out there. You want a
(17:28):
guy that can be a runfit guy. You want a
guy that occasionally can play the middle of the field.
But very few times are you asking your safety to
go outside, you know, and cover Pukinakua or one of
the great wide receivers. And so his skill set's much
much different than those corners that you're going to pay
a premium and draft them at a premium position than
(17:49):
a safety.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Well, if you even look at the All World safety
Kyle Hamilton, it was fourteenth overall.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
That's what I mean.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Yeah, you know, I mean so, And that plays right
to the fact that what Shelby just said plays into
why safeties normally you're not going to get drafted higher,
because everybody will say, Kyle Hamilton, pretty damn good, we
got him at fourteen. Why do we need to go
seven on a safety this year?
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Speak of the Ravens. They get Kenyon Sadek at fourteen. Yeah, yeah, he.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Would have been fun.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
If for some reason the Broncos could have been arranged
for him, you would have been He'd have been fun.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Here is it you a joker? No?
Speaker 3 (18:23):
I I just think I hate I hate that joker
dog play.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Tied the one guy.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
There is one guy that that would be kind of interesting.
Eli Stowers is a tied end. But he's been viewed
as a little bit more of a quarterback. It's right,
he did. Yeah, a lot of people are are. He's
visiting the Broncos next week, is one of their thirty visits.
And he's an athletic joker, is a joker. No, I
just meant he was an athletic joker. You know he's
(18:52):
he's an athlete.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
So, but he and Rathport even put out this morning
that a lot of teams are viewing him as more
of a big wide receiver than necessarily a tight end. So,
but there's been some mocks having the Broncos taken him
at sixty two.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
So I would guess on this the what day, seventh
of April, that he will not be there at sixty two,
just to guess.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
He's considered besides Sadik, he's considered the best receiving tight
end in the draft.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
They would have to trade up at least into the
second I think you have to trade into the second
round because now you've see these teams and what they're
doing with these athletic tight ends, they're now a premium.
You know, you see the Kyle Pitts, you know, you
saw the Isaia Likely Like these guys, they're moving them
all around, and they're using them in all these different
type of ways. And so you know, these offensive play
(19:43):
callers are out there and they have all the plans
in the world for this guy of how he can
expand their offense. You know, look at a Chargers team
that could possibly you know, all these teams that have
creative play callers would love a guy.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Like that Bie five six six nine Zeros or Kawekoma
Spirit Health text line. We got news traffic here at
the bottom of the hour with Chad Bauer, Lis and
Iran get to the next looking to win.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
A series, the second series of the season again.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
How about that remarkable last year you didn't win a
series till June, I know, and here we are with
an opportunity to win the second series.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Rock the Rockies could get to five and six. Keep
building it up, you know, I'm just kidding. Got Kyle
Freeling in the Mountain tonight. Look good, it's first two starts.
I'm ready. I know you are. You got a two
eight ninety R. I like that. Banky staff has done
really well. Yes, I mean honestly, with the exception of
Lorenzen on opening days, well.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
That was yeah, gave up seven of the first man
also struggle. But you know they've they've responded. I find
as well. And I think that was probably the worst
start of Lorenzon's career.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
I believe. I don't think it was.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
And that's that was tough. But also as a fan
for Opening Day, that was tough going there. We you know,
I feel bad, were outside, talked about all this optimistic stuff,
and they go in there and get my It was
exactly how I crawled it too. When I got home
from calling, you know, from doing the pregame thing, I
(21:08):
get home and it's eight to one. I said, oh,
that's back. That's terrible, that's okay. Again, it's a long
season show. They responded, though they did, they responded. They
could have laid down the rest of the series, and
they didn't. They fall back.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
They lost two to one on Saturday, close game one,
four to one on Sunday. And on Sunday. And now
that we're you said, we're on a one game heater.
What is two games?
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Just two games heater? Two game heater? Right, that's right now.
We'll see if we canna make it three tonight. Uh,
Bernana Mendoz is not going to go to the draft. Uh,
he's gonna be selected number one overall. Trevor Lawrence, I
believe was the last first overall.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
That is true. He's gonna hang out with his family,
Joe Thomas, but the league hates that. I was just
gonna stay. Joe Thomas was fishing.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
He was fishing. He was fishing with his dad, right,
but he was when he found out. I remember watching
that when I was I had to be like whether
fourteen or something like that, and I thought it was awesome.
You know, spend the time with the people that were
They were with you from the beginning, and you know,
showed them that they are more important than this. You know,
I wouldn't be here with this moment if it was
(22:15):
not for you. And so I want to spend this
moment with you because it's one of the last quiet moments.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
We're good.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
I wonder what the League said to him though when
he left him know whether he was an email or
a text.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Or is this really for dandel Mendozo.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
We'll call your family in too. Yeah, we'll bring them all.
We'll put them all in their own room. Though the league,
the League would actlutely.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Love to have him there, but like Shelby said, I
think it's cool. I think it's uh, it's cool that
he's doing that.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Well, I mean, I guess I do too, and I
actually I never never falls a player for for making
that decision to hang out with their family.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Well, it's just yes, there is yes, yes, you know,
I actually grew up and we had great relationships with
our fathers, and our fathers loved us and we loved them,
and we can appreciate what Fernando Mendoza is doing.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
For those maybe they grew up in a different.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Type relationship with their father, well, then maybe they look
at it differently.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
Well, I didn't have a relationship with my father. But
I'll tell you this though, as being a dad, I know,
I know, But as being a dad, I think that
would probably make me feel so good if my son
was like, yeah, like that, I want to spend this
time with you instead of going there. I might even
shed a tear because.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
That shows one for you.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Yeah, because that just shows it like you really did
a good job raising them. And that's a scary part
about raising kids. You only get one shot, and so
you hope you're doing everything the right way, and that's
a way that you find out you did the right thing.
It doesn't matter about your athletic accomplishments, and you still
want to spend time with me when you don't have to.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Let me ask you.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Is it a little deflating that we've known who the
first over pick has been basically since the end of
the college football season.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
No, I mean, normally that's the case. It is.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Well, sometimes there's a little bit of speculation into it's rare.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
Walker nobody that was kind of that's true, that was one.
But usually when it's a quarterback, you know, other than
we have times where well, Bakery, it's between two quarterbacks
like Alex Smith Aaron Rodgers, there was one or the other,
and nobody expected Aaron Rodgers to drop.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
The Peyton Manning and uh it hit from Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Well that like the Baker Mayfield year, there was some
discussion about who was going to be first overall that
that one wasn't there.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
I mean, I'm trying to remember, I mean Donald, who
else was.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Sam Donald, Josh Allen, But Josh wasn't expected to be first.
Zach oh was that well, you know the same year,
was it? No, no, no, no, no. Zach Wilson was the
Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Here, no, Josh Rosen, Josh Rose Josh seventeen. Yeah, and
released the next the head coach got fired the next year.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Yeah, and then they went they moved in a different direction.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
That was a fun game playing him, I'll tell you that.
When I was with the Broncos, that was great because
he was laid on every throw. And I remember Todd
Davis had that interception for a touchdown where he high
five Chris Harris Junior running down the field, And I
told me it seemed like everybody had a sack of
the game.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
It was.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
It was. It was a fun game. You know.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
My memory for that is von Miller calling the shot beforehand,
like guaranteeing the win. You almost never see that, but
he was. He did his press conference and he said,
I guarantee we are not losing to this team.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
I think he did it again and we lost. What
was the other game? I think he did like the
next game? Really, No, I remember the next game. I
remember that one exactly because we won. Think, David, you
ever guarantee a win while you were playing? Oh?
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Hell no, hell no, no, no, absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
I listen.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
I I remember I was talking about it on the
air saying well, this is going to go obviously one
of two different ways. You know, if they win, maybe
this catapults the Broncos for remainder of the season and
everybody's excited about what they can do. And if they lose,
then everybody's gonna look to Van and say nobody's got
his back in the locker room, which is maybe not
completely fair, but but there are none of course, was
(26:15):
struggling at that time. I wonder, so Banana Mendoza is
going to get a pretty long leash. We were talking
about that mock draft a little bit. Uh Ty Simpson
out of Alabama. I think he goes in the first round.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Yeah, I think there's I think there's a pretty good
chance he does. You know, I mean I saw quite
a bit of him last year. He's he's a rhythm
thrower and on time thrower. He's accurate with the ball.
Doesn't have a big, big, big arm, but enough arm.
And again we talked about this every single year with
(26:51):
this position in this league, there's such a dearth of
starting quarterbacks that you, I mean, if you need a quarterback,
you don't want to be the team that passed on
a guy that eventually goes somewhere and turns out to
be a dude.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
That's how you get fired as a GM.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Now, on the other hand, if you draft him and
he turns out to be a bust, you're probably gonna
get fired as a GM also.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
I say, don't draft him if you don't have the coaches.
And I don't say that lightly because you know, we
blame these quarterbacks for not developing and becoming the players
that we expect him to be, but we don't ever
actually think about why they didn't. And a lot of
the times it's because you don't have the coaching, you
don't have the evaluators, you don't have the right guys
(27:37):
in place to develop this quarterback. And we've seen a
lot of teams to kind of go through quarterbacks over
and over and over again. And I think he can
be a slam dunk if he goes to the right team.
He can be a dud if he goes to the
wrong team. And so it's a matter of, you know,
whatever team picks him up will will determine his future.
(28:00):
And that's a sad thing to say.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah, I was listening to UH very quickly.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
I was listened to Peter Schreeger talking about his mock
draft today and they were kind of give him a
hard time because of how vocal dan Or Latsky's been
about ty Simpson saying he's the best quarterback in this draft.
And then Peter Schreuger puts out a mock and ty
Simpson's not in the first round, and he said, well,
the reason why he wasn't in my first round is
because you get to the back half of the first
round and nobody.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
He's like, so I'm not doing trades, He's like, but
I could absolutely see He's like, the two teams I
think probably would be the most interesting to him is
the Jets and the Cardinals, and they are picking right
at the top of the first of the second round, right,
So he's like, ty Simpson isn't going second overall, He's
not going third overall, right, but he could go maybe
back half of the first round if one of those
guys want to.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
I would be surprised if he slips out of the
first round.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
I I'm going to say that someone's going to trade
back in. Yeah, so somebody's going to be willing to
trade out go on one of these more successful to
nice leeve this year. This draft, it's not it's not
a great draft. Why it's the Seahawks trade out. You know,
they can get a running back anywhere, you know what
I mean, They don't have to necessarily get it in
the first round.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Cool, but they Gotenarian Price in this draft. Oh that's
such a good fit.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
But what I can see a team trading out and
let and and uh whoever trading back in to come
get a Ty Simpson and hopefully is a team where
he doesn't have to start right away. Hopefully is the
team where you can sit back and watch and develop,
like how he's supposed.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
To Gladiator yesterday. Yeah, I gotta mixed up for a moment.
As soon as I said it, I knew it was wrong.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
But don't they take on Freedom? It was Gladiator. It
was such a proud look too.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Well, let's be honest, it's that's the worst thing I've
ever said on the air.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
And that's that's true.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
I was a little embarrassed after saying Gladiator when I
knew it was Braveheart.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
But then Maddy got it wrong too, She did so
did she said it was I.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Think she just said William instead of saying braveheart. So anyways,
we got Rockies baseball come up here at the top
of the hour our standings because we got an NBA
game to pick. Actually, this is I can't wait to
see what you guys end up doing on this. So
no Lebron James, We're got thunder Lakers. So Ben and
(30:20):
I are two and oh.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
So you get three and oh for picking Michigan to win.
You kind of cover and the and the under Ben,
you're so obnoxious. I partlayed it last night. Dave is
one and one with fifty two wins. I might add
I'm make sure healthy. Thank you healthy fifty two and
Nick is oh in two second place? You're in second place?
How many you got? Thirty eight? Okay, good?
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Yeah, gotta go on a fourteen week I got time
this summer.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Yeah, you get time to finish in second.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Again, it's a recurring theme. You do that quite well.
The Rockies getting done to Knights, and we got the
ads as well. What do you think, Dave?
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Sure as Saint Louis it's an important game. If they win,
they win the division.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Yeah, I think I think, what what is the what
are the playoffs? We're about a week and a half.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Yeah take yeah, as go a little bit.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
The important thing for the Ads just like the Nuggets, right,
get as many guys as you can completely healthy, get
cal mccarr healthy, and uh, just go win sixteen games.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Let's do it. Thank you, Shelby, Harris, Dave, get the man.
I'll see you tomorrow. Yep, it's not good. We've got
Rockies Day game tomorrow. We will be on after that.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Brougus Country's and I coming up after Rockies and Astros.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
That's coming up next right here on Ka Way. We're good.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
Chick picked the long ball.
