Speaker 1 (00:00):
We have won the final four games of the home stand.

(00:04):
They knock off Houston this afternoon, nine to one win.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
How about them Rockies four straights sweeping the Astros. I
never doubted it for a second. I of course, the
more optimistic part of our duo.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Sure you are, how are you good? See right, I'm
I'm great. Man.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
It's good to see the Rockies playing not only just
meaningful baseball.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
I mean, you know that that feels almost pejorative.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's certainly patronizing, I think more than anything, it's just
it's the plan that they told us they were going.
This is who they said they were going to try
to be jadl I like, I'd like just to get
to it.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Go ahead, I like to put it in his most
simplistic sort of form. Please do succinctly. I like to
see him when they win.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
That's it. That's it. Yeah, that's my contribution to this afternoon.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
All right.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
I mean listen, I mean four in a row, sweeping
the Astros, playing good baseball and again getting outstanding pitching.
So man, good for them. Let's let's see where we go.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Well, and of course you know you have the the
you know, the podres coming up. Next series, and you know,
the division a little bit of a hot mess.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, been a bit of a hot mess. Off to
a great start, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
It was what was really cool today And the Rockies
actually have done a pretty good job about this in
his homestand so far, at least the last three games.
I have four games, including that Phillies game, and I
was striking out nearly at the rates that they were.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
We were talking about that, and I was I was
picking that out as a point of contention of maybe
my early concerns in the season, that they were still
striking out at a.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Really high clip. Today was great. Today.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I think they only had seven strikeouts on the afternoon.
And yesterday was also nice. They only had four strikeouts,
but the more impressive number. Do you realize the Rockies
drew nine walks today?

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Nine lot of the game. I didn't realize it was nine, yeah,
you know.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
And I didn't realize that until I was driving in
and I heard Jack mentioning it that they had drawn
that many walks, and was like, wow, I guess that's right.
And then and of course they made the Astros pay
for it, which is what good baseball teams do. And
I don't know if we're going to go as far
to stated Rockets are a good baseball team just yet,
but they're playing like one.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
No doubt, and I think it's going to be important.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
And when we had Walker Montford on prior to the
home opener, he talked about a couple of things, being
more aggressive, trying to steal bases, trying to create opportunities
for a team that last year, certainly and maybe even
this year we'll see is not going to be a
home run hitting team. So how do you how do
you generate offense in a huge park that you play

(02:46):
in you know eighty one times? How can you generate
offense if you're not going to be a power hitting team, Well,
you've got to be.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
You got to get on base, and then when you're
on base, you.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Have to be selectively and judiciously aggressive. Right, getting on
base is going to be important, and he mentioned that
as well, making pitchers work, not being overly aggressive, and
learning to have a discipline strike zone, not bailing out
guys who throw bad pitches and you swing at them.

(03:16):
It's going to occasionally happen, it just can't happen too
much too frequently.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
But I think.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
You know, you and I talked about with him kind
of what the changes might look like and what would
like what would grab the attention of Rockies fans early
in the season, How would this team look differently than
what we've seen the last two or three years. And

(03:43):
those are a couple of the areas. Aggressive base running,
when you get on how do you get on being
selective and judicious in your strike zone approach? And we've
seen them put that into play, evidenced by the fact
you just mentioned they had nine walks today. So I'm

(04:04):
excited for him, you know. I mean, I don't want
to get too overly excited. It's a long season. I'm
not a doomsday or at all, but damn man, I mean,
they played good baseball. They take two or three on
the road in Toronto, come back in sweep Houston three straight.
I would guess that those who gamble in baseball, first
of all, are you crazy? Second of all, if you

(04:24):
were in Vegas and you like the Astros in Game one,
maybe you bet them, you were going to bet them
in Game two, but you didn't, I would think you said,
there's no way in the world of Rockies are sweeping
the Astros. Astros were favored in all three games, so
off to a good start certainly an improving start and
good for them.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Well, question.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
To the squad, right, well, especially after you watched Michael
Lorenzen pitch on opening day, right, I mean that he
has seven runs in the first inning and that game
was over at that point. So yeah, you felt like, okay,
today would probably be the when it all comes kind
of crashing down.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
And he was fantastic today for them.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
He five and two thirds, only gave up seven hits,
one earned issue, two walks, four strikeouts. You know, their
top five for what it's worth early in the season
twelve games in their top five walks issued. How many
years have we talked about the Rockies We're just like
they're allowing guys getting on face to given free passes.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Else Walker Monford mentioned, that's right specifically to us. Yes,
way too many walks that's been We have talked about that.
We have tried to address it. And one of the
ways is, you know, being smart about who we brought
in this year.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I mean a whole bunch of new arms. Honey.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
He said we have to throw strikes. Yep, he said
we have to throw strikes. And you're doing that your
top five walks.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
Issued, and sometimes that's going to get you into trouble.
Sure it got Lorenzo in trouble in the home opener
because the strikes were being hit. And I think again,
you and I talked about it after that Phillies home opener.
The other team has game plans, they have strategy, they
have you know, they sit down before game and they
talk about this picture and what he likes to do.

(06:05):
And because they the Rockies have been so public in
terms of what's gonna be important for us to start
this turnaround, then you know the other team is saying,
listen there, they're gonna they're gonna pound the strike zone early, right,
and they're gonna throw strikes, so you're gonna get opportunities
to swing the bat. And the Phillies, you know, are
very good hitting teams. So but again, sweeping the Astros,

(06:28):
I think it's terrific. Four in a row, and I'm
excited excited for this team.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
And a momentum is kind of a funny thing, too, right,
We talk about it all the time in the midst
of a game special specifically football, right, But same thing
for the Rockies. I mean momentum of being a bad team, Well,
you expect to lose some of those games that are
like one run games. Late in the game, you just
the bullpen falls apart. Whatever reason. It could be different
reason Rockies invented reasons to lose games, it felt like

(06:56):
seemingly last few years.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
But moments the other way also exists.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
In this case, a team that's feeling very confident, like said,
this be one of those games where you're getting ready
to have out on the road and maybe you got
one eye on on the road trip because you had
to get packed and you had to get ready for this,
you know, trip out on the West Coast, and you're
thinking a little bit about these division games and how
good are we and what you took care of business,
and you did it emphatically. In fact, you made it

(07:21):
where the Astros tapped out. That's what happened today.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
The one word you use there is confidence, And I
think you know when you're confident at in any sport,
at any level of sport, it is really powerful if
your team. If your team feels like, listen, we're going
to win tonight or today whatever, we're good enough, we

(07:47):
know we're gonna win, and it's not a false sense
of sort of bravado. It's just a confidence that you've
done it again. Now in baseball, you have to have
stretches of confidence, and then you've got to fight out
of the dol drums and other stretches because you can't
hit it, and all of a sudden, your pitchers can't
get it over the plate. And there's so many there's
so many peaks and valleys in the Major League Baseball season.

(08:10):
But I think just being confident that we're good enough
to win is I mean, unbelievably.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
I know it isn't football.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
Uh, And I have to think that when you're playing
good baseball and you believe you can win, I've got
to think that's powerful too.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
On the text line here five six, six, nine zero,
it says great for the Rockies. Unfortunately they have to
go on the road occasionally. Listen, it didn't really matter
for the Rockies home or road. It's not like they
represented home field advantage over the last few years.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
I think seven one ninety three one four. Texter was
being snarky. Is that a snarky text? It's definitely a
snarky you think, so, Yeah, let me read it again.
Great for the Rockies. Unfortunately they have to go on
the road occasionally. Okay, here's here's what I would say
is seven one ninety three one four. Just be happy today.
Just be happy today. Today's Wednesday. Rockies have won four straight.

(09:01):
It's the eighth of April. I believe, just whatever wherever
you are, Like, if you're home and you're thinking about
what to eat for dinner, and let's say you're you're
in charge of that, make one of the two or
three meals that makes you and your family the happiest,
make it.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Make it tonight. It's great advice.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Make it, yeah, and then understand in the moment we
can be happy.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah. Eight O eight two A two.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
When was the last time the Rockies were five hundred
after ten games?

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Jeez?

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Probably have to go back to seventeen. Maybe eighteen, oh
maybe not. Maybe there was one year they got off
to a good start. I think it was after the
eighteen season where they were they were better than five hundred.
But it safe to say it hasn't happened in the
last I don't believe last three or four years.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Well, no, and what we talked about, First of all,
they hadn't won even three games in a row. Until
June last year. They had won their first series until
June first last year. It's I mean, I don't tell
Rockies fans. You don't tell Rockies fans how dire it's been,
so I can respect. Listen, I respect the I'll wait

(10:12):
and see.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Just be happy. But I'm with you, like they just did.
Enjoy the moments. No, it didn't cost you. It doesn't
cost me. Even if it's cornbefash like tonight.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
Well, cornbefash is a happy meal, but normally my family
likes it in the morning, even if it's that naked tonight.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Somebody says, took the Rockies thirty one games last year
before they got their sixth win.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Rights, Yeah, they were think about that. Wait wait wait
they were Oh he was Yeah, they were full.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
I remember this because at one point last year they
were four and twenty. They were either four and twenty
four or four and twenty five. That indelibly was marked
in my brain and I don't know how to get
it out.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
You're you're absolutely right. They were five. They got to
five and twenty five, so they had to be four
and twenty. So there were four and you were a
four and twenty five on April twenty ninth. There you go,
four and twenty five. The season's over.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
That's why I say to cornerby past tonight. If that's
your deal, make a happy meal for the family.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Oh my god, look at all this red as I'm
looking back, all these l's, Well, there were a bunch
of them. Even Ben Albright doesn't take this many l's.
It takes a lot though. Anyways. Yeah, so yeah, i'd
be happy. You know, if you want to wait and see,
if you want to you know, just you're you know,
you don't believe and what to do? Fine, fine, I
mean it doesn't it doesn't change what they are, which

(11:28):
is a team that's won four straight. That's a team
that's five hundred and I mean again, you don't get
the standings. They're not one of the worst teams in
baseball right now, So take that for what's worth. All Right,
we're off rolling here on a Wednesday afternoon here in
the Mile High City. Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards, we'll come back.
You got we had some fun stuff. So Nick Wright,
who I typically would never almost play his audio ever

(11:50):
because I think he's obnoxious. He's trying to petition Lebron
James to come to the Nuggets next year. So I
want to play that audio for you. By the way,
the Rockies are second in the NL West right now
you realize that, Dave second after twelve.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Games, and hey, now you're getting ahead of yourself. They're
only three back of the Dodges. Here we go, you know,
here we go.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Yeah, okay, you're three back of the Dodge. Yeah, I'm
fired up, but I'm I'm you know, Okay, let's let's
just think, say, let's let it breathe a little.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
I think I was really inspired by the go make
the meal that you want tonight and be happy.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, got I bring you a little over
my skis on that one. All right, So we'll hear
from Nick Wright.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Also, an interesting thing that happened with the Houston Texans
say that could have implications for the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Well, it's all that coming up next.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Five six six nine Zero's are k Wa Comma Spirit
Health text line Broncos Country tonight coming up at the
top of the hour. Uh this r on the text line.
Hey guys, great series for the Rockies. However, the ad
won their division last night.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
That's right, yes, they did, they did, they did. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I am completely and totally ready for the Stanley.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Cup playoffs to begin.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
I mean, I'm just I think the Avs are I mean,
to me, they've been the best team for pretty much
the entire year, and now the exciting part.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
You get to see exactly what's.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Happened or what's going to happen in the playass But
I'm ready to close this regular season out. Let's get
to the first of sixteen.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Same with the NBA, Like, I'm ready for that too.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Remember they're playing Memphis tonight and they're like a forty
point favorite whatever whatever they are.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
It was so remarkable last night when we were doing
Show Me the Money because I brought up the eighteen
and a half.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Somebody must have misheard that I took the Lakers. You did,
that was the wrong pick. Yeah, I could have sworn.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
I no I took I knew well, you faded me
at your own peril. That's really what this is about.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
Well, says the guy's in second place. I understand I
am leading the pack this week. This week, Yeah, that's
like being ahead after the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
I'm just saying you, you don't really count those things
until the game is over.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Intentionally faded me last night and didn't work out for me.
It didn't work out so well.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Order one is in the books.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Although the history would be on your side. If you
want to fade me again tonight, it's probably gonna work
out fairly.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Yeah, probably, But I.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Uh, yeah, you know, the Avs easy win last night,
more or less against Saint Louis. I'm ready for the
season to end at this point. This year seventy seven games,
so you got five left, I'm asking.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
So the the car injury is nothing to get alarmed about, right, I.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Don't think so. It doesn't sound like they never really
tell you too much.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Yeah, and I know Jared Bednar had said that he
was going to miss a few games with it, and
I'm paraphrasing. He pretty much said nothing to worry about.
But they all sort of say that from time to time.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
I get the sense that I get the sense, based
on his comments so far, that if this was the
playoffs right now, he would be playing.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
They have the ability and availability to rest him and
get him right for the postseason. Maybe you see him
in a game as a tune up right before the
sea the postseason starts to be the case.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Do you worry at all? And don't laugh.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
I'm just gonna say no, okay, just based on how
questions over the years have gone that start like that
with the laugh, so I'm gonna say the answer is
going to be no.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
So don't change the question.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Okay, do you worry at all about the President's Trophy curse?

Speaker 3 (15:24):
Okay? I was right. No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
No, no no, because he has are are barreling towards
being the President's Trophy winner one hundred and twelve points
so far.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
They got eight on the Stars. The Caroline Hurricanes have
one hundred and six over in the East.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
I mean, they're they're in great shape to get the
President's Trophy. But it's been since the twenty twelve, twenty
three weeks that the President's Trophy winner has won the
Stanley Cup.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
There's no way for them to avoid that currently.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
I mean they just sort of allow other teams to
catch up, and which would be weird.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
No, like you don't want to know.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
To me, You know what, get everybody healthy. As you
and I've talked about, the power play has been better
since the All Star break, which was horrible. I mean
absolutely horrible in the first part of the season. So
you got to decide kind of what you're going to
do it in goaltender, Right, you're going to rotate I
guess you're going to rotate them, which they've done this.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Year, which has been the far superior. Yeah, he has
been since nineteen eighty six to only eight winners.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
Here you go, and you fancy yourself as an as
an optimistic person.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
You're talking nonsense to existence. We are both superstitious people.
You appreciate a good superstition every now and then.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Okay, yeah, so I am clearly the more optimistic of
the two of us, But the point still remains superstitions
sometimes can get in the way of that. So this
is just an acknowledgement of like, Okay, well, the Ads
are the best team in the NHL. They've been the
best team in the NHL all season. There's no reason
to change the trajectory of who you are. Keep winning games, keeping.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Worry about the President President's Cup.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Okay, Okay, that's all I need you. I need you
to reassure me that that's it. I'm good now.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Just like there's no reason to worry that the Nuggets
are gonna somehow not make it through the Timberwolves.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Don't worry. I'm not worried about the Timberwolves. The Spurs.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
You've okay, the Spurs and the and I'm not I'm
not a fan of the Spurs.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Before you get no, I had never accused you of
being a fan of the Spurs. Only a fan of
the Timberwolves and the Thunder, not the Spurs.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Okay, thank you. Yeah, so they will take care of
business versus the Timberwolves. I'm not worried about that. The
Spurs in the next round. No, it doesn't hurt me
a little because I'm a Nuggets fan. The Spurs are
going to be a fun series. I think they get
through that. Oklahoma City, though, is going to be the test.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
That's what it is. Okay, but you know that I
know that.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
Let's get no. Oklahom City's a hell of a team.
This year is going to be different. I mean, the
Nuggets almost beat them last year, like on a leg
and a half, right, I mean seriously, Game seven with
you know, three of their guys banged up, ag could
hardly want I was absolutely amazed he played.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
So.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
I mean, again, just to point it out, I've said
since December, Nuggets will The Nuggets will come out of
the West if they're healthy, and they're trending towards being healthy,
they're playing some.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Of their best basketball.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Jamal is on a different level than I've seen him,
even even though he's been really good over his career.
You know what you get from k AG's rounding back
into form and is shooting the ball effectively from three
point rain Just keep him healthy.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
I love the fact that that.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Cam has come on in the last probably three plus
weeks and is aggressively pursuing his perimeter shot and knocking
him down, because that's that was really part of the
trade when MPJ was traded. You got a guy that
was good, maybe not quite as good percentage wise, but
really good shooting the three, and then he struggled this year.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
But now he seems like he's sort of climbed.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
Out of his own head and is back as a
viable perimeter score. And Christian Brown looks like he's kind
of rounding back into physical shape because his shot looks
a little more comfortable from the perimeter. So just get
Peyton Watson healthy. Bruce Brown is going to get significant
minutes off the bench. Tim Hardaway has given them a

(19:54):
real Yeah, I shouldn't even have him last. He's given
them a real boost on the offensive end. I think
this team is poised to raise Hell in the West.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Can't wait excited for the postseason. Don't you know? Lou
dor poster in your best room. It's okay, it's all right,
not anymore now, am sure we did? The joker took
that thing down. Took it down. He took it down. Anger.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Yeah, I didn't tear it up because it's worth something,
but I put it in the basement where it can't
You can't hurt me both, Okay, all right? Do you
hear Nick Wright talking about Lebron to the Nuggets next year.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
I've heard him. That's not new. He's done that for
a while, but I didn't hear the most recent comment.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
So there's probably a couple of layers to this. We'll
play for a little bit, and when you get sick
a couple we could turn it off. But he he's
talking about moving on from Peyton Watson. He's talking about
a trade to the Lakers. You move Watson there and
you bring in Lebron here. So I'll play a little
bit of it and you tell me what you think.

Speaker 5 (20:54):
I think it's really noteworthy how they included in the
details they gave on Denver. I love about his relationship
with the owner, Josh Cronky that I had forgotten and
then I realized it Actually Saturday watching Spurs Nuggets.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Jared Dudley is on that coaching staff.

Speaker 5 (21:15):
And as far as a team's ability to acquire Lebron
and not ask him to play for the minimum and
have to be a sign in trade situation, the fact
that the Nuggets are anticipating losing Peyton Watson, who is
a perfect fit for the Lakers. As far as defensive wing.
You know what I mean that that if both teams

(21:36):
feel like bring lose Lebron for another, lose Payton Watson
for nothing, trade with each other.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Both guys get paid.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
All of that where Lebron I think would be Listen.
Jokic is their offense. But it's weird because he's a center.
I know people call him the point center, but he's
not regularly every much. But he's not like bringing it up.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
The poor he moves. He moves on dribbling, and I.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
Just think that that is I don't think they could
win a title in Golden State. I think New York
it would it would take a great Lebron season. And
I don't know, at age twenty four, at age forty
two and you're twenty fours a great Lebron season, do
you think it would have to take a great well,
let's just say, because they wouldn't be the favorites.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Against a Western take that's what if they got out
of the East right right, right right, that's Christophers. Sorry,
I don't I don't like Yeah, so on its merits there?
Could you see mutual interests in Lebron. I I really
like what we're seeing out of Peyton Watson, but we've
we talked about it even going into the season. That
was a decision you're gonna have to make at some point,

(22:44):
and once he started playing well, that became more of
a oh gosh, do you have to say goodbye to
Cam Johnson if you're going to keep Peyton Watson? So,
I mean there's decisions to be made. I don't know
if I need Lebron here. Yeah, maybe like five years ago.
This has been kind of an interesting.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
But I I don't know. I think I'm good, Dave,
what I think? I think that if you.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Would have asked me about Peyton Watson and Cam Johnson
six weeks ago, i'd have said, listen, this thing with
Cam just doesn't.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Look like it's working.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
I mean, he's so far in his head that he's
a guy that is so remorseful after a game that
he's letting his team down. That's so hard. You and
I talked about that. I remember that show. That's a
hard position to be in. Professional sports is unforgiving in
a lot of respects in terms of how you deal

(23:40):
with the ups and downs and the positives and negatives.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
It's like, man, you're a grown man. We're paying you
a lot of money. Figured out.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
So, but I thought at that point it was going
to be important for somebody or somebody's on that team
to reach out to him and say, listen, we got you,
we know you can play.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
You just got to work your way out of this.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
And however, how however that process took place, it seems
like he's worked his way out of it. I mean
he's every time he shoots it now from three point range,
I think it's going in, where before every time he
shot it, you're like, there's no way that's going in.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
So in terms of Peyton Watson.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
I think the key to that question is sitting down
with Jokic and just feeling him out in terms of
how things are going. What what do you think if
if jok said, I just don't know how much longer
I'm going to do this, maybe a year or two,

(24:40):
and you'd come to the conclusion from a from a
money standpoint, and you can't keep Peyton Watson and Cam Johnson, Okay,
then then mate, I hate dealing Peyton Watson, as young
as he is, and the way that he played or
way that he has played, especially when when Nicole was

(25:01):
was hurt. I mean he, I mean, he was great.
He's already an elite defender because of his athletic ability
in link.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
He's twenty three and he's a pup and.

Speaker 4 (25:10):
He had developed a nice sort of feel from the
perimeter that allowed him to be, you know, a good score.
So I hate I hate giving up on that. And
I don't know in terms of money what he's going
to command. I'm not sure in terms of you know,
the salary cap and how they fit that in in
the second apron and all that, but I would hate
to give up on him. So I think the answer

(25:34):
long winded wise would be no, I would not. I
would not deal Peyton Watson for Lebron.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I love him. We agree, I'm glad. Yeah, it makes
me worry a little.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
And I'm a huge Lebron fan, although I hadn't liked
him as much in LA, and he's proving even at
forty one. I mean, this is a guy that's averaging
over twenty points a game at is he forty one
or forty two?

Speaker 3 (25:54):
He's forty two? Well, lone, I'll tell you right now
he is forty one, will forty two in December? Okay,
so he'll be forty two next year. Yep, yeah, I
mean probably not.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
But if you asked me, hey, do you think Lebron
can still play another year or two, and especially with
a guy like Jokic and really help the team, I
would say absolutely he could. Absolutely he could.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
And the part that they were getting into with what
what would Lebron want by next year?

Speaker 2 (26:24):
I still think probably his best situation is with LA,
right with Luke Doncic.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
But I don't you know, you think he should go?
You think you should go east in the West right now?
Do you think Doncic and and Reeves is going to
be a free agent.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
That's true. That's a good point, donc. Let's just say.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
Reeves day, Reeves stays doncic Reeves and a forty two
year old Lebron in the West, you think have a
realistic chance of winning a championship.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
No, you're right, I do not know. You're right.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
So I think he would be interested in going somewhere,
and I would I wouldn't be surprised if he sort
of tried to engineer a move to go into the
East East Conference, Eastern Conference, because right now, the Western
Conference is just a lion.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
It's it's You're absolutely right, it's a monster.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
And then the East you could go to even one
of these teams that they're kind of on the up
and coming. I mean, I'm trying to look really quickly
the standings.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
So well, I mean, Atlanta, Atlanta is playing maybe the
best basketball of anybody in the East right now.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Yeah, I don't know that. You know, I don't have
any idea if they would have an interest in Lebron.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
But like, what about the Knicks, Yeah, I mean the Knicks.
The Knicks you got Karl Anthony Towns, you got Brunson.
I mean, it makes bridges, the bridge out bridges. I mean,
the market makes sense because Lebron's gonna want a big
market versus Atlanta. Yeah, it's remarkable to look at the
standings here, like as you were talking about the East

(27:52):
versus the West.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Or he goes back to Cleveland and tries to win
his last year or two another championship in Cleveland as
a really good young nucleus.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
They have a good roster, no doubt. Yeah, it'd be
so interesting. I mean, especially if he ends up being
on the move. He's he's going to be a draw,
like regardless of whatever it is, right, I mean.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
We're not gonna be ESPN and go on and on
about him. But he's a draw.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
He's he's still he's still got something, all right, five
six six nine zeros kaway comma spirit heal tet on.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Before we get to the bottom of the hour.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Today, the Houston Texans they gave they picked up the
fifth year option on c J. Stroud and Will Anderson.
The speculation is that will Anderson is going to get
an extension, and of course well deserved, right, he's a
budding star.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
He without a doubt about what else.

Speaker 5 (28:40):
C J.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
Stroud an extension. That's a little bit different, I think.
And in this regard, you know C J. Stroud when
he first had opportunity to play, looked great. Let me
set the world on fire. Rookie of the year, right,
Rookie of the year. I mean, he played really great
for whatever reason. And Houston has to fix this out,

(29:00):
not us, but he's digressed.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
And then so.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
If you're running the Texans, you got to go back
and look at every single game. You got to go
back and look at schemes. You got to go back
and look at play selection, supporting cast, and then as
best you can come to the decision as to why
has my star young quarterback.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Digressed over the last couple of years.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
He was hurt, so you have to factor in some injuries,
but he looked so completely overwhelmed in that Patriot playoff
game that that would give me pause if I'm Houston,
before I'm going to crank out. You know, a four
year offer for one hundred and seventy eight million, you

(29:50):
know you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
I absolutely know what you mean.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
It's remarkable to talk about a guy that has made
the postseason every year he's played, and he's won in
the postseason, right, some things like guys like Chargers, that's right,
they win, they do, but then they're collapses and they're
largely like him playing poorly or part of those collapses.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Again, you know, calling Broncos games.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
I mean, I'll see the Texans if they're on you know,
one of the Thursday night games or Sunday night or
Monday night or whatever.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
But haven't had a chance to study C. J. Stroud.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
But they're again watching that Patriots game close in the playoffs,
and I know the conditions were rough. It was cold,
it was slippery, the ball was slippery, it was wet,
it was windy, But just his decisions in that game,
if I'm running the Texans would make me extend my
arms and push all the way back from the table

(30:46):
and say, okay, hold, we got to hold on a minute.
It's not that we don't love you, but I'm not
real sure that I want to marry you right now, right,
So it's just I mean, he was so overwhelmed or
looked like it looked like a he looked like almost
like a free agent quarterback who had played well the

(31:11):
week before. Because they could run the ball and they
rushed for three hundred and seventeen yards and he was
ten of thirteen, and now you play against in tough
conditions on the road, big game, and it just sunk
in like, oh God, I mean, I don't even know
what I'm doing, and he.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
Had that look on it. I mean, I really felt.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Badly for the guy, certainly, and it was one of
those performances that I think a lot of people wondered, Okay, well,
if you're the Texans, I.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
Mean, with that defense already interrupted, with that defense, I mean,
you got to find a way to win that game.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
I have to.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
The defense played well enough in that game on the
road in New England, and so what you can't do
if you're an organization with the defense. I mean, to me,
it's a little bit like the Super Bowl fifty defense
and some other teams we've seen here in Denver over
the years, where the defense leads it and the offense
is just trying to make sure we hold up our.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
End of the deal.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
The Texans defense is real, but you can't I don't
think extend CJ. Stroud right now and look at all
those defensive guys and they're going to be looking back saying,
what the actual hell are we doing.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
And we may like the guy.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
He seems like a great leader and likable guy, but
I mean, in the NFL, it's about winning games.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
And I was thinking about this in terms of bon Nicks,
because we've discussed it. After this year is the first
opportunity that you're going to have to give him an extension.
And certainly, I think we're all rooting for that. We're
rooting for him to play at a certain level. And
maybe he's already done enough that the Broncos would feel
good about it even today. But you want to watch
one more year and I don't know, and maybe we'll

(32:52):
come back. And when I ask you more specifically, does
he need to take just a big step forward for
you just to say no doubt about it, or if
he's relatively the same, like if he's kind of what
he is now, you feel good about giving that extension
immediately somebody. We'll ask you that when we come back.
We'll get into that topic next. Broncos Country tonight coming

(33:16):
up at the top of the air. Now, it's a
couple of people on the text line, well actually just
one guy on the text line. Things that I'm trying
to craft some kind of negative bo Nicks argument or
conversation here nic certainly.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Oneh I agree with him a little bit. To you, really,
that's not helpful. That's not helpful to mean, what was
your question?

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Well, the question is is what do you need to
see out of Boonicks to make it a no doubt
we're giving him an extension.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
Have you already seen enough to do that out of
this year? Or is it possible like CJ.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Stroud, like we might see with other quarterbacks that are
around this era when you're in your rookie contract where
it's not the hey, well we don't have Joe Burrow,
we don't have Patrick Mahomes where it's by year four
we're for sure doing it. We're gonna year We're gonna
maybe wait another year. On the other side of that, no, No,
I've seen enough. I can't recall broadcasting a single game that.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
You can just sort of.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
Even though I'm not playing anymore, you can just kind
of feel it when a game or the moment it
just feels too big for a particular player or in
this case, a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (34:28):
I can't recall one game or a moment that I thought, yesh.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
I don't know, man, he seems like he's shrinking here
a little bit, So I've seen enough. I Mean, I
can't speak for the Broncos, but my gut would say
they already know that they've got a franchise guy, and
they'll just try to figure out a way now to
get an extension of some sort done, whether it's earlier

(34:56):
than later, whether it's less money or more money. I mean,
there's all sorts of factors involved. I mean, you would
think Bull wants to stay here in Denver, and the
Broncos want to keep him here. So I don't know
how that plays out. But for me, I've seen enough
to say, Yeah, this kid is going to be and
he loves football and he works at it, and he's

(35:16):
a football sort of nerd in a really good way,
which I think he You know, to play that position
at that level, you have to have that sort of
mental approach to it.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
So I would sign off on him right now me too. Honestly,
I think he's done enough. And I believe the Broncos
how the franchise quarterback. They're cually building the team around
him in a way that makes him the franchise quarterback.
It's just to wonder a little bit about what the
next step forward looks like for him, because statistically he
was pretty close to what his rookie year was.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
I mean, he took a couple of steps back, but
I think it's it's.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Mostly negligible because you're won more games and ultimately that
part of his game, the clutch ability, is significant.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
While we're talking about what he brings to you, that's
the key to me, that's the key thing.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
The numbers are important, and certainly you know from a
touchdown to interception ratio you want to be you want
to be at least three to one.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
He's more like two to one. You'd love to be better.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
Well, I mean there's things you know, I never I
never said there weren't things he has to improve on.
I mean, players are going to get better every single
year until they reach sort of a position, and then
you want them to sort of stay in that position
because age starts to creep in and maybe you can't
be physically better, but you can be mentally better. There's
things you can you can always you can always get

(36:37):
better at. But but I think the thing that has
impressed me the most is in whatever you said that
like the clutch gene, I mean that is really There
have been some really good quarterbacks in the NFL over
a long period of time. Not every single one of
them had the clutch gene are right. They might have
great numbers and maybe they do it occasionally, but there

(36:58):
were plenty of times when you know you need them
to make a player or lead a team down the field,
or bring a team back from a from a deficit
that looked just insurmountable and they couldn't do it. This
kid has shown the ability to do it, and he's
done it a number of times, and that's where you
start to think, Okay, if he's got that, then we'll

(37:21):
work on some of the little things that every quarterback
has to work on. But he's definitely a franchise guy.
This kid does have a little magic doing. I'm just saying,
I remember when I said that.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
When did he When did you say that? Was that
the Giants game? I think it was the Giants? Yeah,
it kind of has to be right.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
I mean, my lord, what were they like one hundred
and seventeen points down or I mean they were just
I mean, the game seemingly was over, but I just
I don't know, it just never quite felt secure and
It might have been partially due to the fact.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
That it was the Giants and they didn't really know
how to win either, But uh yeah he did. He
did it against the Eagles, he did it against Buffalo
down seventeen nothing.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
I think starting the fourth in Philadelphia, yes, and brings
them back and they win.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
You know, the Bills they were behind.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
I mean, there's so many games last year, and ideally
you'd like to not put yourself in that position where
you have to test the metal of the quarterback and
the team to come back. But the fact that you
did it, and I do think even though there'll be
some new faces next year, I think the fact that
they did it so many times does carry over a

(38:32):
little bit. I know Sean said, you know, every year
is a new year, and you start and I agree
with that for the most part. But I also agree
that most of the key components are back. They brought
them back intentionally, and they most of those guys experienced
what it was like to do those things late in

(38:52):
the game that allowed them to win. So I do
think there's a little more chance of carrying over with
respect to the confidence that they had last year.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
This year, a couple of texts here David Ryan. As
great as I think the quarterback class is, I think
there's no doubt Bo is the real deal. To Dave's point,
there has never been a moment where the moment looked
too big for him. As great as Drake May has been,
the moment looked too big for him in all of
New England's playoff games. Well, and you know Drake May,
you know he I'm gonna give him, I guess a

(39:29):
little bit of latitude. I mean, he was in the
MVP conversation either way. But like you're talking about a
quarterback that did struggle his rookie year. His second year,
it's a whole new coaching staff, it's a whole new regime,
and he took it and he ran with it. I mean,
that's that's pretty impressive for me to go from one
year where you have one staff and you learn, you're
trying to learn the game, and then you reset everything.
Same thing with Caleb Williams. You know, they reset everything

(39:51):
and he was able to have the season he was having,
so that it shows a lot about his medal. And
that's not a bow Knicks comparison. I'm just saying, like
I want to see what Drake May does this year
when he's gonna have some continuity.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
The same.

Speaker 4 (40:03):
I think to the Texters point, there were some games
that the Patriots won and Drake May was not the
reason they won those games, right, I mean, I mean
you think of the game. Was that a playoff game
when they played the Chargers, I think it was. I mean,
they damn near won in spite of him in that game.
And I mean the Chargers couldn't block anybody, and Herbert

(40:26):
struggled in that game, but the Charger formula was be
able to run the ball. You know, don't put too
much pressure on him. He's got a good arm and
I think he's going to be a really good player
in the league. And they were were they were good
on defense even in the Super Bowl, and that was
a little bit different because they Seattle had a historically

(40:46):
good defense. But there were times that he looked, to
me at least a little overwhelmed. So I like where
the Broncos are offensively, and I like where they are
in terms of their quarterback. I think Wada will be
a big addition to the offense. I mean, I just
think I think this team is poised to really take

(41:07):
a big, big step and and the qualifiers they're going
to have to because I think the schedule, at least
on paper, is going to be a lot tougher and
they're gonna have to I mean, they're gonna have to
win some games and not make silly mistakes early in
games that put them behind, and then they have to
count on their ability to come back.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
It's a great time to be a Bronco. We're gonna yeah,
here we go to you. That's right. It's Friday.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
Very excited about that, and I do want to maybe
we'll do this tomorrow a little bit more, but I
want to ask what is that next step for both,
like just cursory, what is what is the next step
for Bow?

Speaker 3 (41:47):
What does that look like this year?

Speaker 2 (41:49):
I think one thing you brought up was they sometimes
put themselves in a position to have to come back
the way they did in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
Yeah. I mean, it's great that you were able to
do it.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
And it's an important part of the DNA of what
you have inside that locker room that you believe, Hey,
we're gonna win this game.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
I know that it's looked bad, but we're gonna win
this game.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
Maybe that's the next step for Bonix in the offense
is let's maybe not put ourselves in a position where
we have to.

Speaker 3 (42:15):
Come back by multiple scores. Yeah, ideally you'd like that.
I mean you would.

Speaker 4 (42:21):
I mean there's no coach in the world that would
sign off on, Hey, you're gonna have You're gonna have
twelve come from behind wins next year.

Speaker 3 (42:29):
I mean it shortens your life. It just it shortens
your lifespan.

Speaker 4 (42:34):
So yeah, ideally, But I think again, it's they developed
a real confidence that if things happen and we have
to come back, we are capable of doing that. And
not every team, not every team, even good teams, not
every team has that confidence because they number one, they
haven't had to do it nearly as many times, and

(42:55):
maybe a couple of times when they've had to do it,
it didn't work out. And you can't develop confidence in
that regard unless it's happened. You've you've put it in play,
you've seen it happen, there's evidence we did it, and
then you build on that as the year goes on.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Like that.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
That was a conversation about the Rockies, but even the Broncos,
Holy cow, well, no, hold on, what are you, well.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Did you just feel a loganism?

Speaker 2 (43:29):
That's what.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
Do you mean? Oh my gosh, No, I'm not going
to pile on you. I know I just had.

Speaker 4 (43:45):
I had a friend of mine text and ask and say,
ask Ryan about JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
You love that old J. J McCarthy. It doesn't mean
like multiple things can be true.

Speaker 4 (43:58):
I love you.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Didn't love Bo Nicks when he was drafted. I love
Bo Nicks now.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
The Broncos franchise quarterback record this played on the podcast.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
Mean whatever if it be a prom date, JJ McCarthy's asked,
it would have been going with you to prom not
bow Knicks.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
I really wanted JJ McCarthy. That's okay, Like you've Colorado.

Speaker 3 (44:20):
He's okay, but you were. You were absolutely Crest follow
what I told you. Be like that's an appropriate way
to describe its. Crest followed and I told him it
was gonna be Bo like eight hours before the draft.
Y'all aren't helping my cause here with the text line.
Couldn't gore?

Speaker 2 (44:39):
Is that what the audio sounded like a little a
little bit from at least my vantage point?

Speaker 3 (44:43):
Sure, Yeah, sorry, it's okay. There There isn't a guy
in this draft class.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
For what it's worse is we're getting ready to do
our draft coverage here about two weeks that I am
that you know and I I the Broncos don't have
a first round pick.

Speaker 3 (44:58):
Good for you? What's worth? Yeah, there isn't a player.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
And you know, even last year I picked twenty, there
wasn't a player that I specifically was like, Oh, this
has got to be the player. I'm pretty excited about
Johnny Baron Tho. I didn't think you'd be there.

Speaker 3 (45:12):
For you excited now I am. I'm still in on
Johnny Barny. What are you doing? Ben? I don't know. Man,
just broke the computer screen. Yeah, you know, if it
doesn't stay up, that happens, it happens. So it just
it just happened. Actually, I've only seen that fall for you.
Well they do fall for me. No, that's not what

(45:33):
I was saying. Uh huh, yeah, the computer I know,
it wasn't what you were saying. I took your words
and I spun them. Ryan. You never you could never.
You guys are like two brothers that have bunk beds
in one room. Imagine three hours of this at night,
just just bickering back and forth like this.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
All right, let's get show me the money so Ben
can come on and disappoint everybody.
