Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards, Rick Lewis five six six nights.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
There was okay with common spirit all text line Bronco's
Country Tonight coming up at the top of the hour
and abbreviate show for them because we have Rockies Baseball
again coming up here.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
You must have you must have answered one of our textures.
Who answered back, yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Mean, listen.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Sometimes sometimes brilliance is not recognized in the moment. It's
years later that people you know truly reflect and appreciate it.
So most of the textures I understand, don't understand where
I'm coming from this, and that's fine, that's okay. We're
allowed to disgree.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
This guy said, just messing with you, buddy. I love
the way you bick her back and forth with Dave.
I just said that to get you riled up a
little bit. Yeah, well if you don't mean it, so
you if you go down a little bit. He called
me a name, so I was like, did Yeah. I
was like, hey, listen, we don't want to well, we
don't have to name call. Yeah, we don't have to
name call.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
No.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
I mean, Dave might have under his breath felt a
similar sense, but I know.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
I think I think you do a great job. I do,
I really do. I do. I mean you're you're.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
I don't want you to run my football team. But
that doesn't mean I don't think you do a great job.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yeah. Thanks.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
You don't want me to be the lead singer your
band when you put it back together. Trust me on that.
You think I can do a great job, but maybe
not not excel at that job. I don't think i'd
excel being the lead singer. I would be interested because
of the dulcin tones. Like what what your voice would
sound like in a rut? Thing I could harmonize. I
(01:30):
tried to get Rick to bring me up play the
cast the nets in the background. We got to do
that sometimes, you know what I mean. We're playing in
Cabo a week from tomorrow. You see, I can play
cast the nets in Cabo. I know, why didn't you
come down for that. I'll put you right up right
up on stage song one or the one you hold
it here, and I think it's called a giro giro.
(01:53):
I can do that. How long are we in Cabo for?
It's gonna be three nuts? Okay, Yeah, that's.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
A good ton. You come on down, all right, I'll
hook you up.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
All right, so last night with it, and I would
love to. I'm just saying, if you feel like you.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Can come down to your watch.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
To play yeah, grow or g row? Uh, never mind,
I don't want to go down that who speak Spanish
better than I do?
Speaker 4 (02:20):
See it? Though? Yes, I agree with that poor thing?
All right?
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Sorry, Ry, No, it's okay. I I It was obviously
not the ending to game last night the Rockies fans
were hoping for.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
I thought you were talking about du Pioneer hockey.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Well was amazing.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I was slipping back and forth to go ahead. That
was second overtime. Yes, oh god, what a game. Yeah,
the goal the US goalie was silly. I mean, there
was just so many big moments. Think a freshman?
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Is he really?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I didn't know that. Do you use goalie as a freshman.
That's pretty impressive.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
That's amazing. What a dynasty do.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
U has a hockey seven of the last ten years
and made the Frozen four and they play Wisconsin tomorrow
for the National championship. Go Pios's incredible run, Absolutely credible.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, very cool over the Rockies and I was doing
the same thing flipping back and forth and checking in
on both. So uh, the ending walk off grand slam
by the Padres in the twelfth inning, and again it
was a back and forth game.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
It was a very good game.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
But I don't know if you saw on Twitter today,
but Drew Goodman's call on the TV ended up trending
awful announcing barstool.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
I mean, I actually, in full disclosure, being completely honest,
I'm flipping back and forth. I see the Rockies go
up three to two, then it's tied at three.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
And I and I got stuck on the on the.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Pios hockey game, and all of a sudden, I looked
on ESPN real quick and it's like, wait, seven three
did they hit a grant? I mean, you can do
the math. They hit a grand slam. They did, but
I did not hear Drew's.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Call, And of course, as we know after the fact,
they intentionally walked a couple of batters to see z
and Bogarts they wal they walked Machado.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, but I understand.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I mean, when Mana Machado is one of those dudes,
they have a lot of good hitters. But either way,
it's fascinating. So I wanted to play he was called
the one that's getting so much run. Okay, all right,
but first you're Jack's call, because of course we're the
home of the Rockies. And this is what Jack had
to say on it.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
I want to pitch a drive the left. It's not
only gonna be a game winner, it's gonna be a
Grand Slam. Xander Bogarts the inter slipped padres the win
in extras seven to three here in San Diego.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah, naturally disappointed and as we all are. But the
way Drew you kept the setup in this right grant, Okay,
because this is what's getting the run is the way
Drew set up the call for this hit.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Here we go, bozo if I may is the crafty lady.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yes, everything's below the speed limit.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
He does get some roy over ground balls trying.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
To get one here. Not gonna happen, How can happen?
Speaker 3 (05:19):
In fact, this is going to be a walk off
Grand Slam.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
It took twelve innings.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
It was back and forth. San Diego winds it on
Axander Bogart's walk off brand Slam seven at three.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, and so that's so that was he was setting
it up with you with a He does a great
job getting these groundouts and if that's what they're setting
it up for, is double play, and he's like, not
gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Hey, listen, I've never called Major League baseball, but I've
had I've had games that that the Broncos have played
that everything looks great. And you know, I can think
of one last not last year, two years ago, the
game in Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
They have a thirty five yard field goal.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Thirty five yard field goal that is blocked for the wind,
which would have broken a sizable losing streak to Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
It's one of those where you just you just want
to throw up in your mouth.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
It's like and if you could swear, if you could
have one sentence and a pass on the sentence that
was expletive filled you, you'd absolutely blue streak people to death.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Right.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
So yeah, no it it didn't work out. No, it
did not work out. If people roast and drew on that,
are they it's kind of just because of what he said,
Hey he's a ground ball guy. Yeah, but you were
just setting it up. He told the truth. Just didn't
know that he said, weren't roasting, No, they were.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
They weren't roasting of they were just sort of pointing
out that literally everything he was trying to will and
to exist it.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Yeah, I get it.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Quite the opposite happened. I get it almost immediately.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
It's man, it's not a lot of fun. I can
tell you that.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
You know how rare a walk off grand slam in
extra inexists in Major League Baseball?
Speaker 1 (07:20):
I think you're gonna tell us.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Very rarely happens.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Well, it happened three times last year, But that's not
so nineteen sixteen.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Like two hundred and fifty times.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
That's a lot of games, a lot of extra any games,
And that's all I mean.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
So that's a pretty.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Two hundred and fifty times is a lot of times
since nineteen sixteen.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Well no, not maybe not, No, that's rare.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
When you consider how many games that is going back
over one hundred years, one hundred and ten years. So
that's that's really rare. And it postseason. I thought you
were going to say since nineteen sixteen, it's happened three
times something like that. You don't think two fifties, well two,
it's two hundred thousands and thousands.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Well no, I think from a percentage stamp.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
All right, how about this, how many times in postseason
in baseball history walk off grand Slam in extra innings.
Oh my word, two two, that's I think that's that's
pretty phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Yeah, that is impress few times. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
The one stat on that, since you had a fun stat,
the Padres scored four runs and only saw three pitches.
They're only the only MLB team to score four runs
in an inning despite seeing fewer than four pitches in
an inning, and that since they first started tracking that
in nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Now that's a rarity that's happened one time, yep, since
nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
I didn't mean to top you.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
I was just what are you pushing back on me
for that?
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I had it right in front of me, that's all.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
I just thought it was interesting.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Oh okay, I think two hundred and fifty is rare
when you consider it thousands of times. This is how
no having something happen once, well, of course, is nineteen
eighty eight is rare. Now you're coming after me, now, yeah,
I guess a little bit, are you?
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Joe Peshy? What am I funny?
Speaker 4 (09:10):
A funny to you? I amuse you?
Speaker 2 (09:13):
It was?
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Are you gonna take a break.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
No, we still another like ten minutes A ready to
walk off? Oh you're taking.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
A round off grand Slam. I'm walking out of here.
Oh you're right.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
One more here.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
So this is the Podres call, and oh my god,
that you would have thought the Pires just.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Won the World Series. I'm not even kidding. I want
to hear this.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Don Orcillo, who's the play by voice of their of
their TV broadcast, And I heard this and I'm like,
it's it's like a it's like the fourteenth game of
the seasons. Rare.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Okay, it only happened two hundred and fifty times nineteen sixty.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
All right, let's hear it.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Here's the Padres call.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Fucking gos boom, you don't see you, Sandie? I guess
pop Rise?
Speaker 1 (10:10):
What a t wild and fantastic fashion frightful.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
I gotta be honest. I kind of like that good car.
I kind of like that call. I do you know
that he's a little over the top. No, they gotta
get excited about something. I mean, the Poperys are the
only team they have in San Diego. Think about that.
I mean that mean a lot to them, and it's
so rare.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
A lot.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
It's you know what, it's fair.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
I thought that was a great call.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
And when's the last time that Dawn had a chance
to call a walk off?
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Grand It's a good question, that's a very good question.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Might be his first ever, you would expect, I mean,
if it's your first ever and then just fill in
the blank, you know, you're extra excited.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
I wonder if he was incredulous that they walked the
bases loaded like I wonder, like as he's leading into that,
I mean, the strategy is what it is, right, you're
thinking like I'm gonna walk Manny Machado.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
I'm trying to remember who the other battle was.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
But so I didn't see that the last thing.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
So they had men on first and second and then
I mean they had a man on second and then
walk to yes, yeah, okay, well then you want I mean,
obviously you want to force out at any base, that's right.
So I'm guessing they had what no outs or one out?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
They had one out because Tatis had a sacrifice bunt
that moved cronin Worth the third and then they intentionally
walked and then watched you got it?
Speaker 4 (11:45):
You got it?
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:46):
I mean yeah, because I mean ground ball to the infield.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
If you don't if you don't walk the base is full,
you might not throw that guy at at home, right.
So I think the strategy was good. They just didn't
they didn't execute.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
It didn't quite work out anyways, entertaining game. They'll get
back at tonight for a moment. And we were talking
about it a bit earlier about the news today in
case people missed it earlier when you list of the podcast.
But the forty percent mark here for the Broncos ownership
to get sort of into with the Rockies.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
How soon do you think that sort of takes a fact?
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Like when do you think Rockies fans might see some
of the benefits of something like that.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
I mean, I'm not sure. I would think the agreement
probably spells out exactly you know.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
What that means. I don't think.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I don't think there would be a forty percent investment
from the Rockies, excuse me, from the Broncos. And I
should say it's not the Broncos, it's it's Kerry and Greg.
I wouldn't think there'd be a forty percent investment from
Carry and Greg as a minority owner.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
And then the Rockies then.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Get to decide how much of that investment they can spend.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
I'm sure that was negotiated, but I think this I
think it obviously deepens the Rockies' pockets. It allows them
to get out of any debt that they might have,
which would be an issue in terms of doing a
lot of things, acquiring players, making moves a minor league system,
upgrading that I mean, facilities, you name it. There's got
(13:19):
to be capital expenses involved. I just think there's no
other way to look at this as a really good
deal for the Rockies, and I'm assuming a really good
deal for carrying Greg too.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
When you think about it in terms of why they
would want to do it, And I don't know what
you know about the process of how they got here.
You said it's been going on for over a year.
YEA in their minds like is this just hey, we
want to expand our footprint in Denver? Is this a
we're really big baseball fans? Like, what do you think
maybe is behind this specific time?
Speaker 3 (13:53):
It must be a pure conjecture on my part. I
haven't talked to Greg nor Carey about this, but I
would say a little bit of everything you mentioned expanding
your footprint, footprint in Denver. I think they love this area.
I think eventually my guess would be that it's it's
their goal to own the Rockies and to make it
(14:16):
a world class organization, much the same way that I
think the Broncos are viewed. It gives them a lot
of different sort of options in terms of things they
can they can get done so and they they've got
the wherewithal so, I mean, I knew, I knew there
(14:37):
was I knew there was consideration, I'll put it that way,
but it sort of quieted down and then Bank just
sort of popped its head up today. I think they
they've done so well with the Broncos. They loved being
in the sports business, and so you pick up another team.
It's a lot to like about that if you've got
(14:58):
that kind of money. And you mentioned Rob Welton thought
part of the Diamondbacks. There's speculation down there that he
will eventually buy the whole team. And their cousin, the Cronkeys,
they own two teams in town. Now these guys own
at least a part of two teams. It's a lot
of fun. I would imagine owning a football team or
(15:19):
a baseball team. That's about as much fun as you
can have with your money.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
As an investment, is.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
There, I mean, I'm sure there is never been that
kind of wealthy and don't expect to ever be in
my entire lifetime.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
But I would think of any investment you could ever.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Make, this would be the best one to own, own
a team or be part of a team, to have
any kind of say whatsoever. Like if I won the
lottery tomorrow, this would be a direction I'd want to go.
I want to be a part of some sports franchise.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah, I mean I think there's a there's a cool factor,
for sure. I think I think people again I've said,
just in getting to know Greg and Carry a little bit,
I think they're very business savvy. I think they're very bright,
and I also think they're uber competitive. And so while
(16:07):
I think there's a cool factor without a doubt of
you know, making a purchase like this, ultimately they want
to make money, right, I mean they're in this. Yes,
there's a community factor, but ultimately and they will they
want to turn a profit on this as well. So
(16:29):
I think it's again when I heard the news this morning,
I was like absolutely. This is going to be great,
great for everybody, including Denver and the surrounding communities.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Everybody involved.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
A lot more fun making money with the Broncos than
it would be with Walmart.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
I'm guessing by.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
The way, Walmart's amazing.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Yeah, I mean they're killing it, yeah, in both fields,
but I would think the Broncos would be a whole
lot more fun.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Probably in the case or we hit the bottom of
the art break, did you see Travis Hunter maybe full
time cornerback this next year?
Speaker 4 (17:01):
Saw that? What do you think about that? I think
it's interesting.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
I'm not sure that initially he was completely good with it,
but it's not surprising because we sat here prior to
the draft and we all tried to come up with
ideas that would allow him to play both sides of
the ball and whether a full time corner and then
(17:29):
play forty snaps on offense. And it's just even as
terrific an athlete as Travis is, and he's a world
class athlete, that is a really hard thing to do
in the NFL. I mean, Champ Bailey could have absolutely
played wide receiver in the league. He had that kind
(17:49):
of athletic ability and hands, but he didn't, you know,
Prime coach Prime played started I mean every single play
as a corner and then he had a package from
time to time as a wide receiver. Not every year,
but at least a couple of years. So you got
good enough athletes. But the stress you put on your
(18:10):
body if you're going to be a full time guy
on one side and play thirty snaps forty snaps on
the other side over seventeen games, that is incredible stress
on your body. I think we all thought that with
Travis Hunter last year. There's a reason there hasn't been
a guy playing full time on both sides of the
ball for I don't know, David, maybe the early sixties.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
You probably have to go that far back. I'm not
even sure.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Maybe even I don't even know who I'd have to think,
But there is a reason for that be And there's
now the so called NFL experts saying the Browns got
the better part of that deal, them trading up all
those picks to take Travis Hunter because they thought he
was going to be a generational he would be the
two time player, so that he got a wide receiver
(18:57):
and a cornerback. Now, when you look at the d All.
They gave up, They gave all that up for a cornerback,
and so Travis Hunter is going to have to be
a really damn good cornerback. Oh I think he will
be that for that to pay off. Yeah, yeah, well
I think he's going to be too.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
But that was almost one of the first things I
thought of, is the investment to trade up, I mean
future first round pick in part of that trade for
a corner and so you have to be generational.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
I guess at some level you.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Got to be a Champ.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
You got to be Champ. Right.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
If Travis Hunter turns out to be what Champ Bailey
was both in Washington but primarily here in Denver, then
the deal's probably worth it.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
But anything short of that then you're feeling like, boy,
we really overpaid a bit for this player, but.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
You know, wishing for the best. I think one last
thing just for me is like.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
I really wanted to see it work that way if possible, because,
like you said, it's just so rare and he is
such a rare athlete, rare football player. I really wanted
to see it work because he felt like the one
example that it could. But it's the it's everything Dave Riggs.
Everything you guys said it would be. It's tough to
(20:08):
stay on the field playing that many snaps.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Last true two way starter Chuck Benerrick, Chuck bed Nerick Charlie,
he's the one that hit Frank Gifford.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Oh, no, it was a cow wrote No, it was
Frank Gifford. I think you're right. Yeah. As a kid,
I remember in.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
The fifth picture he's standing over Yes, now that might
have been that might have been the sixty.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
Maybe sixty fifty nine or sixty.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Yeah, standing and Frank Gifford is like out cold.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
It's an it's an iconic picture.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Bet Derrick was doing that in the late fifties and
offensive line too, right full time.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
He played the whole game, both sides of the ball. Wow, incredible.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
All right, well right backway, So you got so you
got a little singing in there. I hear you.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
I hear you.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Yeah, we got the funk. But I do it with
Mike nut On.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Oh it's actually very smart.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Is it's not singing that since Bruce Springsteen impersonation, Dave,
that's Bruce Springstein impersonation.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Yeah, okay, right, all right, I didn't pick that up.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Speaking of interesting voices. Todd Monkin, you for Todd Mounkin
talk course, got a very.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Actually met him and had him sit in my office.
No kidding, Todd Monkey. When he was he was a
concruing in college yep, Oklahoma State.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
So there was this sort of kerfuffle. That's an interesting word,
but he was he missed the photo. Had to get
a haircut.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
You got to get a haircut, that's right.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
So in case people didn't didn't hear, the story is
he was at the owner's meetings and.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
They changed the time.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
He says, they changed the time of the photo, but
he wanted before that.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
He knew that.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
He went out to get a haircut for the coach's
photos the first time. Being a head coach, he wanted
to look sharp and and he missed it. Well, he
was asked at a press conference I think today about
what happened in him missing it, and here's what he said.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
I really don't give it.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
I mean I had nothing to do with me. I
mean they moved the meeting. I didn't miss I was
just trying to get a sweet aircut. I mean that's
what I was trying to do. And then they moved
the meeting. Now you can blame that. I should have
bet the meeting when they moved it up. In my
ass would have known that's when it was Yeah, okay,
I gotcha?
Speaker 4 (22:21):
And was it disappointing?
Speaker 5 (22:22):
At your ass?
Speaker 6 (22:23):
It was disappointing. We didn't wanna loved to be a
head coach. I'm not in the head coach's picture. You'd
think with AI they could have done that quickly and
got me in there. But no, that's the way it is.
It'll be under the bridge, and what will matter most
is whether we how we moved from here and do
we win or not that ultimately none of that will matter.
Speaker 7 (22:38):
The reason I asked this other there's this perception around
the Browns like, you know, what can go wrong, will
go wrong?
Speaker 2 (22:44):
People always reading the worst into what happens here.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
How can you guys.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Change that perception?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Winning?
Speaker 6 (22:50):
What changes everything? Right? What changes the winning changes everything?
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Right?
Speaker 6 (22:54):
I told the coaches that the other day, right or
playing well? How does a play stop a narrative? Play well?
How do we stop a narrative on offense?
Speaker 5 (23:03):
Score?
Speaker 6 (23:04):
How do you stop a narrative a winning win? It's
pretty freaking simple, right, I mean? Is that not life
in general?
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Right? There?
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Is a narrative out there that you know, are you
not a good husband? Will change be a good husband?
Speaker 4 (23:16):
Right?
Speaker 6 (23:17):
All that's part of it, right, change the narrative become
that that's that's what we have to do.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Is real simple.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
So I agree with I agree. It's the sentiment there.
I think what the reporter is kind of getting at
a little bit. And you may be a little more
plugged into it, Dave, because you obviously played there. But
the hiring of Todd Mounkin was not universally celebrated by
Browns fans, and so this is.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
I mean, I sort of get that. Yeah, I listen.
I think he's from everything that I've heard people that
I've talked to over a long period of day, even
when he was he was the OC in college number spots,
I never heard anybody that that wasn't of the opinion like,
you know what, that's a football dude. He's he's good
(24:04):
in terms of you know, what he likes to do
in offense, blah blah blah. To be honest about I
never really looked into it, but I mean fans probably
were looking for a bigger named, a bigger name head coach.
I mean I get that, Hey, if you win enough
games this year, they bring you back next year, and
then next year, make sure you get in the head
coaches picture. That's you know, that's all right, He's going
(24:28):
to be a fun guy to cover. Listening to that, Yeah,
it'd be really fun if that's what his personality's. Just
really like you said you met him, Yeah, he said
in the offense, that's who he is. I want to
say he was the OC. There's been a lot of coaches,
but I think he was the OC at Oklahoma State.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
Are you looking at his bio? I think he was
the OC.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
At Oklahoma State or unless I've got my coaches confused.
But but I will say this, I haven't got him
confused in terms of people saying really good things about
his offensive ability.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Yeah, he was the passing game coordinator. Why we're coach
at Oklahoma State from O two to oh four? Okay, Okay, yep,
I get a lot. I mean, God, this guy's been around.
He's a lifer man.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Yes, he is.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
How many different and again you're looking at how many
different colleges. That's when you can really tell how many
years he's been at it and how many stops he's made. Guys,
if you're not a lifer and you don't love ball,
you know about the sixth place you go to, and
you're moving your family everywhere, it's like, hey, I'm going
to go do something else.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
So he started in nineteen eighty nine at Grand Valley
State as a graduate assistant. Eventually moved to Notre Dame, Okay,
then Eastern Michigan was there for six years. Okay, Louisiana
Tech for a couple of years.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
It's not a head coach yet, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
So in fact, at Eastern Michigan he was a defensive
backs coach and a.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Wide receivers coach.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Then he was offensive coordinator, and then he went to
Louisiana Tech for a running backs coach and wide receivers coach. Okay,
Oklahoma State as we mentioned, passing game coordinator well to
two to four yep.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
And then he went to LSU from OH five toh.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Six the head coach though, passing game coordinator and wide
receivers coach. Then he's with the Jacksonville Jaguars. So now
he's seven, what is he there? Wide receivers coach?
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Okay, oh seven?
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Then back to college Oklahoma State.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
So he's in Jacksonville for one year. Now he goes
back to Oklahoma State. The three years at three years
in Jacksonville. Three years in Jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
What was he on the return to Oklahoma State.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Coach, and that would have been twenty ten eleven, yes, eleven,
that's where that's where I think I met him.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Okay, okay, ten eleven, yep, oh.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah, yeah, so second stints, yeah there it is, yeah,
second stand at Oklahoma State this time. Is an offensive
coordinator okay, great Southern miss for two years as a head.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
Coach, head coach first first head coaching.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Joe, then the Buccaneers as OC which we definitely remember
him there, Wide receivers coach twenty sixteen and twenty eighteen
Cleveland Browns is an offensive coordinator twenty nineteen. Then back
to College Georgia twenty twenty two. Yes, yes, offensive coordinator,
quarterbacks coach Baltimore Ravens obviously twenty twenty three, twenty thirty five,
(27:04):
and now so.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
He's been a head coach one time, one time in
what year already start coaching?
Speaker 1 (27:10):
He started coaching in nineteen eighty nine.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Eighty nine until this year, which is twenty six. He's
been a head coach one time. Dude, he paid his dues.
That's thirty seven years and it was at a small school.
Did you say Southern Miss, Well, that's not I mean
that's a that's it like.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Grand Valley States is where he started as a head coach.
As a head coach was Southern Miss.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Yes, okay, so not like a Power five conference team.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Yeah, wow, I really don't give it. I was just
trying to get a sweet air. Yeah, he paid his dues.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
A great line, smart guy, I think, yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
And I I don't know Browns fans. I mean to
the question that the something's going to happen, bad things
are going to happen, those kinds of things. Of course,
this is indicative of who we are because our coach
can't even show up on time for the coach's photo.
Take a breath. I understand it's it's been rough. I
mean you could say we all know it's been rough.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
For the breath.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
I think the biggest thing if you could you sort
of figure out who your quarterback is going to be.
He's right, you gotta win, certainly, but right now there's
just so much up in the air about who they
are gonna be this next year, and that's that's probably
gonna wear in the fan base a little bit.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Right Well, yes, I mean I think the fan base
right now is sort of stuck in a in a
washing Rent cycle, vicious cycle. It's you know, they mean
they can't, they just can't. I don't know what they
need to turn it around. Honestly, you got to find
your quarterback. Is it going to be Shadure or is
it gonna be Deshaun Watson, because right now, that's I
(28:40):
think I think Gabriel would be the third guy right
now going in, I think it'll either be Shadoor Sanders
or Deshaun Watson. And if it's Watson, how do you
rehabilitate you know, his image. I just don't know how
you do that with all the money you're paying Watson.
I would have assume if he's healthy, he's the guy,
(29:02):
because based on his experience and also your investment in him,
would make more sense to start him.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Have shaduur.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
If Watson can't cut it, then of course Shador gets
another shot.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
See here's the deal with Watson.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
I don't disagree with you, but you look at I mean,
Deshaun played well in the first part of his career
in Houston, But I don't know that anybody can say
Deshaun Watson has played good football at the quarterback position since,
I mean, even a year left in his Houston stint
(29:35):
wasn't great.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
So it's been I mean been a while six.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Seven years since he's played really good quarterback. And coming
off back to back Achilles, that's I would think be
pretty tough to overcome that. Certainly not going to be
as mobile as a Why I don't try to dunk
the ball, and I highly recommend you not dunking. David,
You could go back to the beginning of the show.
You a dunker in high school? I could dunk at
(30:01):
six foot two. No, the rims ten foot, I know,
but at six foot two I could dunk. Oh you
say about your height. Yes, I could dunk in high
school and probably ten college too. Tennis ball or full basketball, Okay, Yeah,
I can plumba basketball.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Okay, today I.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Probably couldn't get six inches off the ground. Oh listen,
I couldn't either.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
To the bullet. Did you at lift the.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Mullet does give you some lyft? Yeah, Yeah, that's that's
how pokah shells and poka shells weighed me down. Yeah,
I had way too many of them on Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
I hear you.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
A Reddit user found a way to end tanking in
the NBA, and it's through beer sales. I don't know
if you saw this this, This was trending on Twitter
for a bit. All arena beers start the season at
ten dollars league wide for every beer. For every win,
teams can sell the beer for thirty five cents more.
For every loss, the teams must drop their beer price
(30:58):
by twenty cents, so basically affecting the bottom line.
Speaker 7 (31:03):
So revenue thing, yes, although it's not really that much's
dropping the bucket money at the end of the day.
So well, but I mean your broadcast revenues where your
your beer sales would be so and.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
This was not a couple of days ago. So the
Nuggets at that time were fifty one and twenty eight.
They would be selling their beers for fifteen ninety five
because of their winning percentage.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Oklahoma City would be twenty two to seventy.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
The best one, though, is the Washington Wizards would be
paid would be paid their patrons ten cents.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
I love that beer beer and we'll give you a diet. Yeah.
I love that.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Yeah, I mean this isn't this isn't realistic. Another one,
really quick pacers are fifty cents fifty cent beers.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Kings would be a dollar ninety five.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
The Utah Jazz who don't really drink out there one
ninety five.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
So on.
Speaker 7 (31:51):
The other problem with that is only like was it
ten twelve NBA teams even own their arena, so they
leased them and the concession prices go to covered so.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
It wouldn't you know.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
I got to add for those that follow the masters,
and I love this. Roy McElroy, Did I see that
he birdied six of the final seven holes today.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
Shot sixty five. He is twelve under.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
You saw d Chambeau imploded and didn't make the cut. Yeah,
he missed the cut. Yeah, he's twelve under.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
Read Mackelroy's got a six stroke lead. Yeah, that's who
I should have.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I put a bet on Young who had a great
day today.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
But we'll see where Shuffler he's in the Middy scuffled
a bit today.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
Yeah, he was better yesterday and today.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Okay, so the game of the night we're just talking
about tanking is the Jazz of the Grizzlies.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Grizzly.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Now we're gonna pick this for show me the money.
But here's Brian Windhurst. No, listen, this is hilarious. Here's
Brian Winhurst. Know why this is the most interesting game tonight.
Speaker 8 (32:46):
We have arrived at the tanking super Bowl. The merits
what we have to watch tonight. We've worked for months
to get here. The teams have worked hard. We have arrived.
I give you the Memphis Greatly versus the Utah Jazz,
a game that nobody, and I mean nobody wants to win.
If Memphis wins this game, they could lose seven percent
(33:09):
chance at the top of the one. If Utah wins
this game, they could lose ten percent.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Utah has gone through they could.
Speaker 8 (33:16):
Lose ten percent. Okay, So here's what's gonna happen. Memphis
has twelve players out tonight, Big Jeff Well thirteen and
another who's listed as doubtful. Ninety percent of their salaries
are on the bench tonight. Utah has eight players out tonight. Peter,
(33:37):
you think I am kidding what I'm about to tell you.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
I am telling you.
Speaker 8 (33:41):
If you showed up on the bench and dressed in
a in a Jazz or Grizzlies Jersey, the coach would
not only put you.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
In the game, he would run plays for you. This
is going to be a theater.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
That's I'm sure the league I can't be happy with that,
can they? Or maybe they don't. Maybe at this point
they don't care, just as what it is. I don't know. Wow.
Speaker 6 (34:07):
Yes, so.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
You've got a whole bunch of G league guys.
Speaker 7 (34:11):
Can you imagine the chess match in the fourth quarter
to not win this sea Here's the thing, though, here's
the thing.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
You know, those G leaguers, but they get a chance
to play, they're gonna play hard.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
You can get three quarters to play harder, they're gonna
play hard.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
I don't know what the coach or the GM I
don't I don't know how you manage that if you're
actually trying to lose, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Really bad for the league, I mean, of course it
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Is, but we get to be entertained by the fact
that you have two teams
