Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tuesday. What are you what you're barking over there for?
How you doing, Dave? I'm I'm good. I'm good your
version of me like, I hear you do that way
so often? Is that? Is that what I sound like
when I entered the show? I don't know. I hear
you do that. That's my special little hello to Grant
saying that you do. Sorry, We've done that for years.
(00:22):
Now that you've added it, I apologize. Shelby Harris is Judy?
What's up? Shelly? I'm gonna go over to this side
of the aisle quickly, quickly, I'm doing.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
You're straight back from Cabo, man. Yeah, the Browns think
that you had anything to drink in Cabo.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
And you know, I bet they probably think that like
I was, you know, this training and Cobo and the beach,
but the whole time I had a drink deliver. I'm
feeling it today, but I'll bounce back tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
It's weeping right now, Oh.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
My goodness, Like my whole body is screaming at me
right now.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
So Dave, Yeah, well, what's what's going on now? So? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
So they uh so one of my one of my bosses. Goodness,
nows here at iHeart you have several. Right, so text
me this morning and say, hey, could you stop by
the office today to forty five boy. So I'm thinking
I don't think she would fire me like that. I'm
not even sure she can fire me. I guess she
could so, but anyway, so I yeah, it's uh, I
(01:30):
guess today is thirty five years working here at KOA.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
So right right out of high school to the airways
at KOA.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
I got a whole bunch of stuff right and by
the way, cupcakes, oh boy, feel free to you guys,
have a.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Couple do them. I was just some cabo the lasting
I needed a cupcake. Well it's alcohol, you know what
I mean. If I would have known that, I would
have ate a lot coo. I'll tell you right, we
won't tell the Browns that you're eating. Well, I hope
to hear it, and I'll be ready and don't worry.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Congratulations day obviously.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
You know we put up some social media posts earlier
today on the main accounts. Anthony Rod did that and
yeah that. I don't know if you had a chance
to peruse the comments, but it's been pretty cool seeing
the love.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Thank you. I have not.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
But I but I appreciate that. Yeah, I really do.
And you know it's it's you don't. You don't think
of it as that long. You really don't until you
stopped for a second and and are reminded of it,
and then it's like, wow, thirty five years, that went
pretty good. But uh no, listen, I've been blessed in
(02:48):
so many ways, and so I am. I am appreciative
of it and looking forward to a great Broncos season.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Man, just the idea of being able to have a
job for thirty five years and be consistent at it,
and you know, props to you, Dave, that that's you.
I appreciate it, Shelby.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Every one I talked to is always like, whenever I
tell him I do the radio like, oh you know
Dave Logan, I'm like, yeah, he said, some person too.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
So Shelby, this this, you know, this will tell you.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I mean, you have different sort of layers, different levels,
different episodes of your life. So Shelby, and I think
Shelby's going to be really good at his second career,
as good as good as he's been at his first.
And you don't play in the league for twelve years
unless you're a really good, good player. But so Shelby
went back to a mini camp. I think it was
(03:38):
a mini camp back in Cleveland, and like, is in
the facility now I haven't even seen because I haven't
been to the.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
New the new Browns facility.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
But Shelby's walking in facility and there's evidently a picture
of me. The picture a banner, a banner, a banner
of me and the quarterback when I played, who was
Brian Soy.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
And you looked at it and said, wait, man, is
that is that the same day? So you've been I've
been away from.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
It so long, it's been away from you know, my
playing days that there are plenty of people that it
just doesn't register with them, even some current Cleveland brown players.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Man, it was just it was really cool because I
was like, I literally I was with my coach. I
was like, I worked with it. Oh man, that's but like,
that's that's the legacy. You want to be able to leave,
isn't that why we do? Like you don't want to
just half ascid, You want to really like you want
to go all in on everything you do. Sure, and
you want me to be able to leave, you know,
your legacy behind.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
I mean, I imagine for you and and maybe even
for some of the other players. I mean to get
to know Dave as as kind of a Cleveland Brown's
legend a lot of ways, but to see what he's
obviously done with the rest of his career. Post football
is always a big topic, especially for players, and I'm
you're not usually talking about that while you're in the
game because you're trying to soak up that time.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
But it comes for everybody, man.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
So but the crazy part about it is I didn't
even know David first as a Cleveland Brown. He was
the voice of the Broncos. Like that's how I knew Dave.
And now go to Cleaves. I'm like, man, what the
hell is this doing up here? What what is it?
They can't be the same dude like you looking at
me friendly, he's hugging another hugging a guy. No, but
it was just like it shows you how you know
(05:23):
what might be forgotten or not known as somebody else,
it could be a big deal to on the whole
other group of people. So you know, your your actions matter,
you know what I mean, your how you live your
life and how you go about every day matters, and
it shows because they wouldn't put Dave up there just
because he's a good player. He had to be a
good person too, because there's lots of good players who
(05:43):
teams don't want to talk about because they don't like
who they were as people. So man, I'm just I
want to get like that one day. One day, Well,
I want to get like that. Yeah, it's it's.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
It's when you're when you're playing, you think you're gonna
play forever. I don't know that I ever had one
moment in my entire NFL career where I thought.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do
when this is over?
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Now that maybe that maybe that's not so good, right,
But I just always always felt like as an athlete, like, hey,
I'm gonna go back next year and I'm gonna I'm
gonna do exactly what I do and get ready to play,
and I'm gonna play. And then you never think about
getting hurt, and if you get hurt, you think about
recovery and you just you just don't. I mean, athletes
(06:32):
don't generally speaking, do a great job at planning what
the next part of their life is gonna be, Like
and so when my career came to an end as
an NFL player, and Ryan, you and I have talked
about this, I didn't.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
I I had no idea.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
I was studying to take the test of New York life.
My dad, the last couple of years of his life
had been an estate planner. So he'd go out and
Cole call farmers out in the out and the planes
out in Burlington and Holyoak, and I'd go with him
on a few of them, literally walk up to a
farm and knock on the door and introduce himself and
(07:12):
talk about, Hey, it's important that you you have a will.
And so I was like, well, I guess so I
was studying to do that. When if I got lucky
and landed a radio job at a really small station,
very small.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Man, that could be that. You know, Dave's one hundred
percent right though, that could be the scariest thing about
being a pro athlete, because for us, all he'd been
told our whole lives, the whole playing careers, even before
the pros and college and high schools.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Football is your life, football, football, football.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
And then but the crazy point they don't tell you, know,
tell you about is you know that's going to end.
Football is not a sport like basketball. Well, you can play,
you know, even after you retire. You know, once the
game's gone, the game is gone. And so you know
what's not talking about, I guess, and then starting to
talk about a little bit more is the post playing
career and that's you know, you and you hear about
(08:07):
players going broken everything after you know, playing. A lot
of it is because they don't have a plan, you
know what I mean, you still live in this lifestyle,
but the funds have completely stopped coming in, and so
I just think the cool thing and this is why
you love having pioneers like Dave and other guys who
they figured it out and they show you a way
to be able to transition and like for this, like
(08:30):
for me, like you know trying you know, going from
you know playing and still playing and you know, hopefully
you know, transitioning to radio. The whole goal though, is
that you know, I'm I can take a step back
from the game but still be involved in the game,
still still have to be still have to pay attention
still you know, still in the mix kind of when
you know, with the game. And that's going to help
(08:52):
my transition. Now all I hope for is for other
players to be able to find what their next you know,
career path will be. I don't care how much money
you have. You know, the way athletes are set up,
we're not just you know, why does it sit around
and do nothing? So you guys gonna get yourself in
trouble or are you gonna find something to be productive with?
(09:13):
And always encourage everybody to find something that can be
you know, productive with something that can that you love
almost as love as you love the game, because you
know that's been such a big part.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Of my life for so long.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Let me ask you something real quick and we will
get to the moves the Nuggets are making. They've made
two pretty substantial ones today. We'll get to that here
just a second. But do you think that the NFL
could or should do more to talk to players or
be involved And maybe this is an NFLPA thing about
the next thing, about what's next to beyond because you
(09:48):
said it perfectly. You're brought up as the foot football
is everything. It's not just everything. If it's not everything,
that you probably shouldn't be doing it, or you're questioned
daily what they're not. You have the true love and
the true passion for what you're doing, and if you don't,
then we're gonna find somebody else that does. So I
understand that mentality, and of course you know it's going
to end, but you don't you don't really put that
(10:09):
in part of your brain. So should the NFL or
NFLPA do more to help the players sort of transition
to that next spot.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I think, honestly, they do a much better job nowadays
than they used to because when I say back in
the day, we didn't have any of that, I mean
we never had meetings when in training camp where people
would be brought in to talk to players about, hey,
you know, make sure you're doing this, make sure here,
(10:37):
here are the things that can get you in trouble,
here are the things you want to stay away from.
And also here in terms of career planning, be thinking
about that. Are you saving your money? I mean, they
have they have people to come in and talk to
the current players, whereas you know, back in the mid
seventies and mid eighties, we didn't have any of that.
(10:57):
So we were you know, I mean, I was fortunate
in terms of my parents and really being very much
involved in terms of finances and I've told the story before.
My first signing bonus with the Browns was thirty five
thousand dollars. I never saw one penny of that, right,
my dad took that and invested that in what turned
(11:21):
out to be the first house, first home that I
ever owned, and it was about four blocks from my
mom and dad. My dad called one day and said, hey,
found a house. I said, you found a house. Are
you guys moving? No, found a house for you, found
(11:43):
a house for me. But you know what it was.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
It was the best.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
It was the best investment that I ever made, even
though and I liked the house and it was close
and I did want to stay, you know, in this area.
But I think in terms of and Shelby would be
better to address this. But I think now the league
does some really good things in terms of trying to,
you know, help some of these young cats understand, like
(12:07):
just what he said. You're making a lot of money now,
but that could end at any point. What are you
doing with your money? What are you doing in terms
of planning for the next career, because you should start
that right now.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Well, luckily the NFL now has a bunch of you know,
I would call them boot camps to kind of help players,
because you know that's what I did. Yeah, I did
the NFL Broadcasting Media boot camp, and I realized that
for me, even though you know, TV was cool, I
realized radio would be more what I would want to do,
just because the hours that go into it. I could
(12:39):
still be a dad, still be you know, around my
family and then still get to you know, be talk
sports and be around you know, and then they have
a finance one, you know, then the Browns would. Last year,
we had somebody come in and and talk to us
about you know, just different financial things you could do,
you know, about different types of race you can get
(13:00):
for houses, and there's this little stuff that really, you know,
all of our financial guys should be you know, harping
on us, but they don't. You know, you would think
also your agencies, you know, as as a player, your
agency should work harder, not just the NFL, your agency,
Like I'm athletes first, and they're a big time agency.
(13:21):
They have a bunch of a bunch of agents and
a bunch of players underneath them, but I would think
they would do more to you know, kind of try
to teach players about about different ways to save your
money and not to spend your money. But at the
end of the day, it's your money. It's it's up
to you, you know what I mean. And I think
(13:42):
the times are different now because now players aren't coming
to an NFL with absolutely nothing. No, that's kind of
what the NFL. You know, that's kind of what it
was before. Players were coming in, you know, broken, hungry,
and so that's why the idea was that, you know,
your thoughts should be only on football. But now ers
are geting a little bit money and the probably before
they go into the league. You know, Now you're seeing
(14:04):
players do all different types of things that they have
interests in. I'm just and this is kind of what
you're seeing. The problem with that Teams are having problems
because players have other interest like see, we look at
that as a good thing as at like you know
at the end of your career, after your career, Yes,
that's great, other interests because then after football you can
go do that.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Yeah, there's more brand building now, yeah, because of social media, I imagine.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Yeah, but then teams, teams don't want you. They still
want you in that that old mindset of like oh
well you need this to survive. Well, if you're coming
with five million dollars, you don't really need to survive
to the point you're just you're you know, you're doing
this because you love it, but also you're allowed now
to have other passions, and so I think it's a
it's an interesting thing. But man, I just we got
(14:49):
to keep this conversation going though, because it won't. This
problem won't go away, and so we until there's you know,
it's never gonna be zero percent of people going broke
after football, but until that numbers us declining more and
more and more. It's a conversation that we have to
constantly keep having, multiple times a year, every year, because
if you can help one person, you did your job perfectly.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Said, well again, congratulations Dave, very sure, thank you. Love.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Every chance I get a chance to work with you
here on the show, it's uh, it's pretty cool stuff, man,
it's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
And hopefully that earns me a cupcake. You know what.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
I brought two boxes, my man, one for you, one
for show.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
A box likely will destroy those.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
Yeah, that'll be gone, gone gone, all right, So let's
let's get you already caught up here for the Nuggets
Yesterday we had a chance to react to the MPG trade.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Boy, all the people hit me up last night was amazing.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
What they say, Well, just you know, maybe you let
my mouth run a little further than I should have,
which is probably like you.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Were gloating a bit in our number three. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
See, being a player that has been traded, I will
say this, like I get it like everyone you know,
as a mentioning miss matching different teams and mix and matching,
you know all that, but you know, player, a player's
life just got just completely just flipped in this ship
to a whole other city, and you know, don't let's
not forget he was a huge part of that championship team,
no doubt, you know what I mean. And I think,
(16:11):
no matter what I get it, it's always about staying
the course and staying competitive, staying a championship contender. But
I think people were just too happy for the NBJ gone,
like too giddy about it, because I don't think you
win that championship with i MBJ. So like, let's not
forget what he did for the city, for this team
(16:35):
to get to where they are even now now every
year they're doing something to stay championship contenders that doesn't happen.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
I don't think they was giddy about it so much
as giddy about being right, because I also said the
same thing.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Though I literally said he's gonna get traded. You got
to assume that fans I'm.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Talking about, I said he wouldn't get traded, like over
and over and maybe over again. I maybe dug in
a little bit too much on that. I'll acknowledge. I'll
acknowledge with a lesson. Well there, you know what good
for you? With hilarious though very quickly in the first
hour of yesterday show.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
I tried to plant the seat and and honestly, if
they just would have gone along with it, he would
have looked even more brilliant.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
But instead he decided to to you know, be So
are there different levels of brilliance? Yes, they're still read.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Have you haven't talked to Ben Albright? He certainly thinks
he's that level anyways. But the point of it is is,
as I tried to say, you know, Dave guaranteed this
was gonna happen, and days like Dave never said this
is a guarantee, And then sure, two hours later I.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Did say I would be surprised if MPJ was not
traded and then boom it happened again.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
I wish you could you had had your facial expression
on some sort of video when you were reading you
you paused and then you just sided like I've got
to make sure this is real. I'm like, what what
what are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
He just couldn't almost bear to speak the words.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
So yeah, good opportunity to remuy people. If you want
to hear that at five o'clock hour yesday on the podcast,
but that he's nailed.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
That's exactly what happened.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
There was this moment, there was an exasperated sigh, yeah,
and oh gosh, well, I better make sure this isn't some.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Kind of fake account sort of like this.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
There is a report and Michael Porter Junior has been
traded traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Now watching him watch them MVP Canada next year with
the Nets because he goes from the third the third option,
he's pretty much certain number one right golf, Yes, back, listen.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I like MPJ as as I mean person, I root
for him, but you're certainly not going to sit here
and try to make the case that MPJ is going
to be the m V p next year.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Sometimes that's all it is. This the take that case,
will he will? I think he will hit because him
and Camp, Him and Camps always want to have the
craziest that line, They're both want to have his thirty
points yes and point five assists the game.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
You can be an All Star next year, MPJ.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
In the East, Well, yeah, I think the way to
look at it, I mean, I think the Nuggets got
better on the court. They certainly freed up some salary,
which was the you know, the talking point with a
couple of guys on ESPN this morning, like that was
the main reason.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
To do it. Yeah, I do is watch did you
watch any of.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
The Nuggets games last year and especially in the playoffs? Okay,
salary a byproduct of the trade, certainly working for the Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
But I think they got better with that move.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
I think that's sad because what you said about is
it sad because of how down Hill went last year
that now it's like, all right, we got to break
this this team up, but like they didn't. Obviously he's traded, MPJ.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
But I just think that, Hey, listen, y'all go to
in fifteen this year, the Browns are going to get
broke up too.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
That's my question if you really, if any you know,
I get that. But the thing is, I just feel
like MPJ, he wasn't what you He was a way
better player than what people gave him credit for. And like,
I think he just had a bad year. And that's
honestly what I think. It was just a bad.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Year eighteen and eight. He played, Yeah, but like.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
In times that mattered in the playoffs. And that's the thing.
You know, a lot of teams if the way you
played in the playoffs will determine how a team feels
about you. Like look at the Bucks getting Miles Turner,
the Pacers. You know, they loved him, but he kind
of you know, didn't show up in the finals. Yeah,
(20:58):
you need a cupcake, don't you know.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
I'm like, now that you bring that up, now we
run a day. He's like, you know what, cake sounds
pretty nice right now? All right, So we will get
to the moves they made. I heard the ESPN segment
two where they were talking about it as a costcaid
saving thing, But they've made moves since.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
So we can. I like that one too.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Oh absolutely, do you see the one they made just
right before the show started. I sure did Tarp Shooter,
I sure did die hardaway. Yes, I thought of you
right away. So we talk about just saying Jonas Valance
Shooting said they needed, yes, sir and Tim Hartley Junior
now new members of the Denver Nuggets, which that on
the other side, Shelby Harrisons Studio, Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards
is k away. So far during free agency, it's been
(21:41):
about twenty four hours twenty four hours and thirty minutes
from now four o'clock yesterday when things got going. And
so today specifically for the Nuggets, they made what I
think is actually their best move so far, and it
had to call on the heels of the MPJA trade,
and that's we started with that earlier, Shelby's because everything
(22:03):
you've done from there kind of started with that move,
and it allows you to do some of these other things,
including today trading Dario Sariz to the Sacramento Kings for
Yonas Valentiunis, which is, in my opinion, the best move
they've done so far. And I don't know, Look, I
want Bruce Brown back. We all like Bruce Brown certainly
(22:24):
is going to contribute. We'll get to Tim Hardaway Junior
here in a second. But Jonas Valentiunis is a true
center and one of the biggest gripes I think Nuggets
fans universally had last year was the amount of minutes
that Nikola Jokic was playing and understanding that that bill
would come doe in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Yeah, I just I am just extremely confused about how
that trade was able to happen like that because Jonas
Valentina's is a doggie out there, I mean not just
a throwaway, and Sarge has pretty much been a non factor,
(23:03):
non existent nugget. So for you to be able to
swap and I'm talking about straight up, straight up Daryl
Jonas vals that has to be the biggest steal of
free agency like that, that right there, it doesn't make
any It just doesn't make much sense. But I tell
you who loves it, the Nuggets, because now you don't
(23:27):
just have you know, it's Nicole Jokis and whoever you
can throw in there. You have legit guys and you
have the rookie coming back from the twenty Achilles, so
you're going to have a stable of big men. And
that that was one of the problems the Nuggets had this.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Year fifteen to eighteen minutes per game. Yonas Valentiunis, what
do you think about the move?
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Date? I love the move and I completely although I
hate to, I completely agree with Shelby. I think he's
he's he's got toughness inside.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
He's a better score than you think he is.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
He's got pretty good, pretty good skill for a guy
that size.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
I can't believe they made the deal.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
I mean, I really unless it was a money thing
for them, Unless they was that what it was. Because
when you compare based on what Surach now sorry to
Golden State was was better, but what sorrych did last
year to.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Valentiunis is it's not even close.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
So one was making five, the other one was making ten.
Valentinas is making ten a year. He's signed three for thirty. Yeah, sorry,
signed a two for ten.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
So as so it cost the Nuggets an extra five million,
but they're getting. They're getting I think, a really good player.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
A player who you know, obviously has experienced around this league.
Guys know not to mess with him, do you know
what I mean? He can be another one of those
enforcer type guys that the Nuggets cann't use but hell
of a player, I agree, and I think that's getting lost.
It's it's really more of the idea, idea of how
do you get this quality of a basketball player really
(25:03):
for pennies. But I just think it's hilarious because this
whole NBA free agency has been stuck with is a
bunch of teams that have no money still making moves.
So I don't know how this is all happening, But
I just I believe that this all it does is
is make the Nuggets way better.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
It's significant, and that was one of the biggest needs
we talked about going into the offseason. I mean, you
talk about death in general, but especially at center. Starts
was a bust, it was a miss. I mean, whatever
you want to say. I've been more supportive than Calvin
Booth than many, although I will say for just a
moment that the move doesn't happen without Calvin Booth.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Missing a dark start.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Gotch who you are? An optimistic sort? Seriously, that's just
a logical early guy that draws down I twenty five,
has a flat tire and then talks about how much
gas he saved because he couldn't get to where he
was going because the car got towed.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
God love, Ryan, You're.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
Just saying like without Dario, SORRYX being the bust that
he was, you don't get yonis Valentuna's But.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
So what what happened to Dario? Sorry when you saw
him in Golden State? But he had some skill and
he couldn't even see it. He couldn't even find the
floor when the Nuggets.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
I don't know, there's something with Michael Malone and Biggs
right because we.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Didn't play for David Adaman either, No, he does. That's fair,
that's fair, and I mean David Adelman.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
I think at that point, you know, three games left
the regular season, in the postseason games I know, and sparingly.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Like we saw him for what a couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
At the beginning of the season, player that played sixteen
games and in thirteen minutes in no sixteen games three
point five points a game for Jonas Falas?
Speaker 1 (26:57):
What is what is going on? Am am? I?
Speaker 3 (26:59):
The only one is this Perlex about what is going
on in the NBA? How How was this a straight
up trade?
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Well, it's contract because he's an expiring contract, and so
what for them? And again this is sort of the
the math gymnastics. That tends to happen, especially this time
of years you're trading for an expiring contract, because then
that becomes four and a half million that you were
able to just expand from you.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
What I keep hearing is everybody's kind of trying to
load up for the next year's free agency because they've
realized with the changing of the aprons and all that, like, oh,
nobody has money this year, so everyone's trying to get
all that money off the book for next year. So
that must be what it was. Because Jonas has one
more year left on this deal after this one, and
(27:41):
like you said, sorry, it's his contract. This is last
year of his deal. But man, I get it. But
it doesn't seem like anybody wants to go to Sacramento either.
So I don't know if you want to make that trade. Fine,
but you know Sacramento has been a place where we
insane for last coup years. Oh well, when are they
gonna finally break out? And they get worse and worse.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
So the other move happened right before we came on
the air.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Tim Hardaway Junior he is coming here on a Vetman
one year deal, And as soon as I saw this day,
I thought of you, because You've been saying for years now,
as long as I've known you, the biggest issue you
have with this team is guys that can spot up
and shoot.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
And guess what.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
This is a cool stat that came out right after
the Nuggets squired him. Tim Hardaway Junior made sixty three
percent of his open spot up three point attempts last season,
thirty six for fifty seven, so when he was open,
pretty good money.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Yeah, I mean, I like the deal I think he is.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
I think he's a guy that is probably a better
spot up shooter than he is off the dribble, although
I've seen enough of Tim Hardaway Junior that he'll come
off high screen.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Roll and shoot it and knock it down as well.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
But I think from the Nuggets standpoint, you couldn't really
have added to a position in more need than perimeter scoring.
And Tim Hardaway Junior. I mean, gosh, when I think
about now, speaking of thirty five years when I first
started after I retired, I was doing college basketball and
(29:23):
TV and did many of his dad's games, And you
talk about a player now, Tim Hardaway Junior is not
as good a player as his dad, but his dad.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Is a Hall of Hall of Fame guy. But I
think Hardaway Junior will fit in nicely with the Nuggets.
I really do.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
I think the Nuggets made it, I mean.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
As big a splash in free agency.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
I'm more excited about what the Nuggets can look like
in October in terms of being a different looking team
than any other team.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
That I can think of in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Maybe maybe there's maybe there's a couple out there, maybe
I just haven't thought of them. But I'm telling you
I think the Nuggets are gonna be much better this
year than last year.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
We lot to look forward to. By the way, not
to make you feel even older, do you realize.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
How long Tim Harroway Junior has played in the league.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Yeah, he's played he is it twelve? It's been a while.
I don't remember. I hope you guys remember when Yan
has jumped over him.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Oh boy is a seven footer. He jumped over.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Jannis jumps over a lot of people. If you if
you get your big ass out in the court, you
can't jump over Utah.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
I don't know about that one.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Supple hands, Supple hands.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
I had the conversation with you, big hands.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Listen if you couple supple hands with the porn stash.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
I mean, I mean, look up an old photo of
you get winning any combo.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
We we have a special guest here on our ka
Comma Spirit Mountain. You do it here and uh, we're
gonna head out there and bring on Brenda Ager, president
of the Denver Region here in iHeart media.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Brenda. It's good to have you on our show. How
are you hello?
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Happy university day?
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Thank thank you Brenda.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
You know what this I think is the first time
you've ever I think the first time you've ever been
on the show.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
No, that's not true.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
There, Oh okay, okay, well we're certainly now and then
you really.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Well, you know what, I believe, the more you can do,
because you never know, this.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Is radio, you never know. Yeah, the more you can do, yeah, exactly.
They gotta be careful of Brenda, as you would know.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
You gotta be careful when you start showing people you
could do more than they say. Oh well, gosh, let's
just let's go have you you do that too.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
Yeah, that's the iHeart motto, right, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
You're calling in. It's a special occasion. What's going on?
Speaker 5 (31:59):
Well, you know, I felt bad because I wasn't there
today when the sales team celebrated you. I'm here in
Arkansas my mom's ninetieth birthday.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Were celebrating it. Well, happy birthday to her. I had,
Oh my god, does she love you? Big with older ones?
I'm big with ninety year olds? Yeah? Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
Can I go on?
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Can I go on the radio and talk to him?
Speaker 1 (32:26):
I'm like, not.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Today, Mom, Yeah, yeah, that's good.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
But the supple hands that through me, I'm sorry all
the things I would say about you, that's not one.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Well, yeah, I don't even have a good comeback for that,
you know, supple hands in the porn stash. But that
was back in the day, Brenda Hands. Yeah day, that
was back in Cleveland. That's that's exactly all right. Yeah,
Brenda texted me. Brenda texted me early this morning, said hey,
(32:59):
you know, congresratulations in thirty five years and all that,
and then there's going to be a little like a
little dinner coming up here at the end of July, right,
And I said, Hey, I'm looking forward to seeing you,
as long as it's not like the scene from Goodfellas
with Joe Pesci Yes, And she said, I haven't seen Goodfellows,
(33:21):
and I said, google Goodfellas and that scene and for
those that haven't seen it, Joe Pesci is thinking he's
going to be a maid guy, right, and he's very
excited about it. His mother congratulations, gets in a brand
new suit, gets in the car with two you know, mobsters,
and they go to this place and he's all happy
(33:41):
about that. Walks in the room, opens the door, the
room is empty, and he goes, oh something, and then
gets right in the back of the head. I said, Brenda,
as long as the dinner is not like that, I'm good.
It's pretty pretty low bar apear.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
You had a chance to google it. No, I've never
seen it.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
You got to go see it, Brenda. It's a great, great,
great movie. On talking about ask you mom.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
She's said it.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
My mom probably has for sure a couple of times
for sure.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Or like violence. Yeah, well I don't understand that.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
By the way, didn't work out for Joe Pessei Paschi
very well in uh Casino either.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
No, I work out for it. I did see that.
I did see Casino. Okay, so some more concepts we've
gone popping in a couple of movies. Yeah, that's right.
People A popaple face. That's right.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Okay, Well, I'm so glad you called in and go ahead.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
I'm just wanted to say thank you for everything. I
think you and I met maybe thirty seven thirty eight
years ago when we worked at CANUS.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Different different station, right, yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
Yeah, So I've known you for a very long time,
and I'm impressed that you're still going at it.

relevant and so loved.
Speaker 1 (34:58):

Speaker 5 (35:26):
It's not good at the email.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
I checked out about once every but that's the one
thing to kind of, you know, go for his age.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Man, I'm a text.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
Yeah, he's way too busy surfing Twitter. It's it's a problem.
We've talked about it a lot on the show. Well, Brenda,
we thank you so much for calling in. And happy
birthday again to your mother.
Speaker 1 (35:46):

before you got stuck producing.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
This, the Logan and Lewis days. Thank you?
Speaker 4 (36:27):
Was that your first first full time producer?
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Roll right there.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
And thrown into the fire right every day, every day?
Speaker 1 (36:38):
