Speaker 1 (00:00):
Logan, Ryan Edwards, Orlando Franklin, and Shooty with us. We're
on till six o'clock tonight when we hand things off
to Broncos Country Tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Five six, six nine zero is our Kawai commis Beer
Health text line. I'm looking forward.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
To Dave show me the money this evening because we're
going to pick the Nuggets and Clippers Summer League game,
and I can't wait to see.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Did we run out of w NBA games we want?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
You know, I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I can't say, but I'm very excited to see you
put your skills to the test to tell me if
you think the Nuggets can cover to nine and a half.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Okay, it's the Clippers today. Hit both these you know
you know that. Let me just tell you.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
I like it.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I'm looking forward to it. But yeah, NBA Summer League.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Orlando and I were talking about during one of the
breaks just about how I mean, I don't know, you
probably do have a gambling problem if you're betting on
NBA Summer League.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Interesting. It's like we talked about this in the past.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
About betting on like preseason games, because there's a certain
amount of it's like, ah, man, this isn't even a
real game. I don't really even tried. But then there's
this like, hey man, but they could cover and Nowmbler,
thank you Grant. I just say, you could make this
game against the Clippers because they have not had a
really good summer league so far. They've lost every game.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
But again, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, it really doesn't.
We even could take a night off.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
No, oh gosh. Now when there's games being played, we've
got San Antonio Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
You're in the studio, we're watching.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Anyways, I'm looking forward to show you the money coming
up here in just a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Okay, So we were talking a little bit earlier about TJ.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Watt getting that massive extension now the highest paid non
quarterback INFL history. That's something I was thinking about, stimming
from our conversation a couple of days ago about Nick
Bonito and whether or not to pay him now or
to wait, or one of those things. Jonathan Cooper got
his contract last year, I think right before the season started.
He's making around thirteen and a half per You guys

(02:08):
tell me, as a player in the locker room, when
a guy gets a contract, the very next year, and
it's possible Nick Benito is gonna make more than double
what Jonathan Cooper is made in his contract. Are you
happy for your guy? Is their animosity? They play the

(02:29):
same position. I'm not trying to look, I'm not trying
to stir a pots.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Sure you are.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
This is not me trying to plant any kind of seeds.
I'm just curious from a player's perspective. Hey man, John Cooper,
we're all happy for him, We're rappy. He's gonna be
here for a while. He's earned that contract. But Nick Benito,
who plays the exact same position, one year later, might
make more than double him. It seems like a bit
of an issue. You want the truth, absolutely. I think

(02:58):
there's a depends on the situation and how you view
your team. Free agency opened up for me. I told
my first offer on free agency, and I got way
over that. When it was all said and done, I
told my agent to call the Broncos and tell him
I'll take less to stay. Right, I knew I was
on a team that was winning. It was we're playing

(03:19):
great football. I did not want to leave, right. I
wanted to finish what we started here.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
But now you know you might go to a different
team where it is about the money because you're not
winning football games and you're miserable and it's I'm going
to get that payday. So you know, I think if
you're Jonathan Cooper, because it's been bad for so long,
I think you'd be happy and excited for a guy
like Nick Bodito if you're able to retain them and
keep him here. And now that's he only makes your

(03:45):
job easier, right, because what he brings to the table.
So I think it all really depends on are you
winning and are you happy?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
And who are you as a person?

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:57):
I agree. I mean, look at Patrick Mahomes. You've got
how many quarterbacks are making more than Patrick Mahomes right now?

Speaker 1 (04:06):
They're on the same team with Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Well, that's true. I think players realize that what I
sign for is usually the agreement is what the how
how much the team values me? Right, And not every
player has the same skill set, nor will every player

(04:32):
be looked at by the organization in the same way.
And I feel pretty comfortable saying I think the Broncos
probably look Jonathan Cooper is a steady rock.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Locker room guy. You need guys like him.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
He's gonna he's gonna make plays when they're presented.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
I mean he's I think he's as good a teammate.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Just based on what guys have said to me as
anybody the Broncos have. Now we'll find out how the
Broncos view Nick Benito.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
But there are two, two separate players.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Cooper is more of a I think, power bull rush guy.
Benito is likely to slip and dip and get small
and get those shoulders by, and.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
He's got a little he's got a little.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Bit of different stuff to his game.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
This, Dave, do you view Nick Benito as more than
double the player that Jonathan Cooper is?

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Well, that's not how. You can't look at it that
way in terms of NFL salary paid. Well, I mean,
I don't you think t J. Watt is more than
double the player that the other I can't think of
his name. Good player Brandon the other outside linebacker.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
For the Steelers. Oh uh not high Tower, not Alex
high Tower. Yeah, really good player. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
The answer to that's no, you know, no he's not.
But it's his time. He's a hell of a player.
So I don't think you can ever look at I mean,
do you think Jamar Chase is making forty million a year?
You think he's You think he's twenty million dollars better
a year player than I mean some of the other

(06:33):
middle tier receivers are making twenty.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
He's making thirteen more than t Higgins.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Yeah, I mean I think he's a better player. Is
he thirteen million better? I don't know. I mean, I
don't know how you quantify that. I don't think you
can look at it that way.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:46):
I think it's also depends on like salary cap and
where you are as a football team, and where's your
quarterback and how much money is allotted to your quarterback.
Tom Brady played twenty two years in an NFL. When
did he reset the market with all those Super Bowls
that he would busy winning. So you know, it's different
with each and every team.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
But I think that in.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
Today's world, we're just so used to, oh, it's the
next guy up, and now he's going to reset the market,
and now the needle moves. But I think Dave kind
of really hits it on the head with how your
team views you, because if you're Jonathan Cooper, you know
who you are as a player. You know that you
are going to play into people's body and you're not

(07:30):
going to beat up ton of people with quickness and shiftiness.
That's just not your game. But Nick Benino now has
been able to excel at that. So you know, in
that defense, how are they called in the defense? Is
it called for Nick Benito to shine? So many times
with like Von Miller and Derek wolf was there Vn.

(07:53):
I can tell you this. Vonn had the free will
to go inside or outside. And Derek Wolfe was such
a great player, but he had to play off of
Von So if Von took a chance and went underneath
the offensive tackle.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Then Derek had to go.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
They had to loop around and cover for him and
make sure you keep the quarterback in the pocket. And
this is happening naturally in the Coastal game.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
So it's like wolf never made the same amount of
money that Von Miller did.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
Ye right, So like it's each team and what where
that team is and are you a contender? Are you
not a contender? There's so many different factors into it.
But I think that Jonathan Cooper at the end of
the day, is going to be happy to have Nick
Bedito in the building. If the Broncos are able to
get a deal done, it doesn't really matter how much

(08:40):
money Nick Bedito get ens up getting.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, I mean, I guess your point. It's all it's
all a lot of money, right. I mean, we're talking
about thirteen million per for Jonathan Cooper. That's really good
to pay for Jonathan Cooper. I just thought about it
in terms of the recency, like one year removed, right,
It's not like Jonathan Cooper got paid two or three

(09:01):
years ago and Nick Benito it's his turn, right, This
is Nick Benito, it is his turn. It's one year
removed though, and we're basically a calendar year from that,
and it's just such a jump, and it's such a
significant jump. But they do make each other better, to
your point, and I think that's that's probably where it

(09:22):
ultimately settles in.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You know, once again, as we talk about the.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Outside linebacker edge group and where were those contracts are
gonna go Dave. I mean we said it earlier this week,
They're just gonna continue to go up. I don't know
if TJ. Watt necessarily impacts Nick Benito, but it's not
like there's somebody else that won't eventually get another deal here.
Pretty soon you're gonna wait, You're gonna pay him now.
I feel like the only deal they have to get

(09:48):
done out is sudden, like that's the only one for me.
That like before the season starts. You just have to
knock that out everybody else. I so, what's that in
your world? What's that deal look like? I think you'renna
pay him twenty five per and how long?

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Three?

Speaker 4 (10:04):
No, listen, I want Courtland to make as much money
as he possibly can.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
I will be.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
For Courtland pleasantly surprised if the Broncos offer a three
year extension at twenty five per. And I've said this before,
and it's not just Courtland, it's a lot of players
to find themselves in this position. The league is reticent

(10:32):
to pay you money unless they have to.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Pittsburgh, TJ.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Watt has made enough money and he is, to use
O's vernacular, a game wrecker.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
He's a difference maker.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
And they just got Aaron Rodgers who's one hundred years old,
and now all of a sudden, you're going to try
to sell to that locker room. We couldn't get the
deal with TJ. Donn So TJ's sitting out good luck
on that. So they had they had to get that
deal done.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
So I don't know.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
I have no inside information how the Broncos view Courtland Sutton.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
I'm just telling you.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
My gut tells me, and it is not going to
be a three year deal for twenty five million per.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
If he snaps, if the first four weeks goes and
he's just dogging everybody out there and he's at the
top at the wide receiver position and leading in yardage
and catches. Maybe, but I'm right there with Daves as well.
I think the Broncos are being smart with this. And hey,
you draft these young wide receivers and you're looking at
a guy like Vele and how could those guys develop

(11:47):
where if they develop? Now it's hey, Courtland, do you
want to stay? If you want to stay, it's going
to be at a little bit more of a hometown discount.
See Pat Bryant to me is the wild card. They
took Pat Bryant where.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
You know, I don't I don't put a lot of
stock in what NFL prognosticators say. You know, I enjoy
here in all their opinions. And then you go look
at tape a guy and you draw your own conclusions.
The fact that Sean Payton took him in the third
round is really telling, telling to me. I mean, you
could have there were other positions that you could have

(12:23):
really bolstered.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
You take.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
You take a wide receiver in the third round, it's
going to be uncommon if that guy doesn't make the team,
If that guy's not not on the final fifty three,
he's gonna play. And you look at him over a
three or four year period. You look at Veley over
now he's got one of the books. Now a two,

(12:47):
three four year period, you got Franklin as a speed guy.
You got Mims. There's a speed guy. Okay, so they
sit back again. Keep in mind, I believe this to
be true for every NFL team. They don't want to
pay money unless they have to.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
So what's that room look like this year?

Speaker 3 (13:11):
I think?

Speaker 4 (13:11):
I mean, if Courtland wanted to come to camp and
play that last year, which if I'm Courtland, I can
understand not want to do that. But if he did, yeah,
I think I think the room is intact. But to
give him a three year deal when you've got then
Vale will be in his third year, Brian will be
in his second year.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Boy, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
I just I think there's I just don't have a
real I don't have a good feeling it's going to
be a three year, seventy five million dollar day.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Well, then Marvin Mims is going to get a contract
as well at that point, because he's finally.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
You got to decide. Really, you know, are you all
in there? I don't know that.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
They're I mean, I thought he surfaced the second half
of the year, made some big plays, but he's I
think for this guy running the show out there, he
you know, I think he's hard on receivers. So you
you're going to have to go out and make some
plays and be like, oh okay, okay, well.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
This is and this might be a year real quick,
this might be a year early to have this conversation.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
But what is a Pro Bowl All.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Pro returner worth to you that also plays wide receiver
or maybe you can build a bigger package for him.
But the fact that Marvin m since he came into
the league, he has produced at least a special teams Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
But that's not good enough for me. He's got he's
got to be like he was last year. He became
a really valuable part of that offense. I mean, he's
the second round draft choice. You're not going to spend
a second round draft choice and then say, hey, we're
really happy that he's a good return guy.

Speaker 5 (14:44):
I think also the thing that we don't talk enough about,
or we're not even looking at, is, you know, if
you're to give Courtland three years twenty five per where
does that put you with bow Knicks Because yesterday's price
is not today's price with both knicks because now you're
kick your kicking that, you're kicking that contract down the road.
So I'm not sizing bow Knicks up for a gold

(15:05):
jacket or anything. But I think here in Broncos country,
before we finally figure out, like, hey we got our
guy for the next fifteen years hopefully yep. So you know,
are you going to try to get a deal done
after year of three because that's in two years.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
It's pretty consistently we could do it or wait, teams
do it now?

Speaker 5 (15:24):
Yeah, So where does that? How do you look a
you Courtland? So I just think there's a lot stacked
up against them. Right last year against Courtland Courtland. Last year,
the Broncos draft two wide receivers. You're talking about Marvin Mims.
He was before that as well, and this year you're
you're still putting draft stock into that position and you're

(15:45):
bringing in free agents as well. So I think Courtland
would have to just come out blazing in order to
get a deal like that done well.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
And I guess the other side of it, just for
a moment, would Courtland take that? Because we talked about
how T Higgins recently got his contract and he's making
around twenty eight seven per and their stats are relatively comparable.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
So I say I would run to sign Courtland twenty
five per.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
I would do that because I look at the other
core wide receivers in that range and I'm like, yeah,
he's about he's about that about that guy.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
So you're saying, are you saying that you think Courtland
Sudden is as good as T Higgins?

Speaker 2 (16:25):
I do? Yeah, absolutely, In fact, he might even be better. Okay,
do you think that Sean Payton thinks that?

Speaker 1 (16:32):
In Yeah, that's a good one.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
I think Courtland's like looks are going to go down
this year in Sean Payton's you just how he calls
the game. I think I could see like a ten
drop as far as versus last year, you're you're the
number one read on these plays versus this year now
with Evan Ingram coming in right and and okay, now

(16:56):
look what we just did at the running back position.
Do we throw five screens a game? Because of what
we have at the running back position now as well?

Speaker 4 (17:03):
And it gets also you got to keep in mind
if you go back and look at New Orleans when
they were rolling, there was usually one guy that got
a lot of balls thrown to him, and he was
a bigger body, bigger body guy. The issue if I'm
Courtland and his agent would be, Okay, Devon Veley had

(17:26):
a really good year last year for a seventh round
draft choice, but I'm still I'm still better. I'm a
better receiver than Devon Vley. The issue that I think
would be most alarming would be you drafted Pat Bryant
in the third round.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
So that a future for me, that's a future.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
Draft choice that Sean thinks that guy because he's talked
about his toughness, he's talked about his willingness to dig
out safeties to catch the ball in traffic.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
He's faster than you think he is.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
That's that's got Michael Thomas written all over it with
the way he discribed. Even compared Pat Bryant to Michael Thomas.
Have you ever heard Sean Payton compare Courtland Sutton to
Michael Thomas.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
I haven't. He has not. I haven't.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
He's compared a guy who's not played a snap in
the NFL to Michael Thomas.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
You know, I just I don't know. I mean, I
I don't.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
I don't know how it's gonna play out, got no idea,
anxious to go to camp. You know, I hope court
comes in and it has a great, great year because
I think he said, you know, he said, two really
good years for the Broncos. But I've been around this
league a long time and there are just signs, you know,
flashing up all over that you know your electricity is

(18:50):
about to get shut off.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Your TV's kind of blinking.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
You got your damn fire alarm, the smoke alarm here
wakeshot middle of the that means you need to change
the batteries. There are signs that are flashing in front
of me that tell me, boy, boy, boy, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Boy.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
He also compared Devon Vailey last year to Marcus Colson.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Remember yes, he did did you ever hear him compare
Courtland Sun to anybody. So I mean, I played that position,
and I know I'm not saying again hear me. I
really like Courtland and I think he's a really good player,
but you know, it just doesn't add up with how
they're doing things for him to come in and get

(19:33):
a three year deal for twenty five million.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Turns thirty altobra ten.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
I hope I'm wrong, well, because I'd love to say, hey, man,
you know what, congratulations, because then that's that's life changing,
life changing money.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Hope I'm wrong, Seane Gillis.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Last night they asked, because I'm sure we have at
least one more before we go out of here. Bronco's
Country Time coming up here at the top of the
hour five six six nine zero is our Kae Thomas
Bird text line, and hey, if you ever miss any
parts of our program, make sure you check it out
on demand at Kocolorado dot com or on the completely
free and totally awesome iHeartRadio app, which is now redesigned
like you have in your car.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
So set us as a preset one of my favorite things.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
They not only set KWA or k Sports is a
preset but also some of our sister stations here in
the building that I'm a big fan of KTC L
KBC O. Shout out to Grant and uh, you know,
get a chance to better shut out to Fox too,
shout the Fox.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Rick.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Absolutely, I'm not usually up that early in the morning,
but yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
What time do you get up?

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Well, I mean with the kids when they're in school,
probably like sick something.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
But but summertime, try to sleep a little later, like eight.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
A clock in the morrow.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Good God, are you alone with your life? Seriously?

Speaker 1 (20:51):
I didn't mean if anybody.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
I up a six fifteen I was, I'd be panicked.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
If I ever woke that time, I would like it,
but I I couldn't. There's no way I can sleep.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Well, why not?

Speaker 2 (21:03):
I yeah, dougs got a poop?

Speaker 1 (21:11):
I mean, I'll say this, like like my kittens cats,
they want to be fed, like at five o'clock in
the morning, So I try to ignore them as long
as possible, and sometimes I'm up at six, but then
I go.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Back to ignore them for three hours.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
I tried to Yeah, okay, o.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Good cat dad.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
I try to orgue to ignore them as long as possible,
but most of the time Yeah, I get up and
feed them, then I go back to bed.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
That's kind of what it is.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Uh So you know, this kind of we We didn't
get to this earlier in the week, but I thought
it was fascinating because David Adelman, new head coach of
the Nuggets, said during one of the broadcasts, because they
during the Summer League, they interview the coach in the GM, Yeah,
I enjoy that.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Yeah, it's really cool.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
I mean, especially because you know, to a point the
game doesn't really matter you're watching it, but yeah, you're
way more interested to hear with the coach of the
GM of the team talking about the upcoming seat.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
He doesn't actually have to say.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
But David Adaman said this a couple of days ago,
where he said that Yodas Valentiunas is a point center,
and he said when he's in the game, we won't
skip a beat because he can run the offense like
Nikola Jokic can. Of course, he's not Nikola Jokic, but
I thought that was such a fascinating thing to say,
because not many centers that really functioned like Nikola Jokic,

(22:22):
even even a fraction of what Nikola Yokic is what
do you think about that comment.

Speaker 5 (22:29):
I don't think there's anybody that can function like Nicola
Jokic can then do what Nicola Jokic does for the
Denver Nuggets. But I do think that Yona's and.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
You gotta Yodas Valanunis.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
Valentiunis, which sucks because he played for the Raptors for
so long and I I've always watched him, but I
think he's a upgrade, a massive upgrade of what we've
had behind Nicola Jokich for years here. And he's a
guy that can operate a little bit with the ball,

(23:07):
but now he becomes that kind of guy that could
be in the middle of the court and almost act
as a rim protector in certain situations. But I'm not
buying that there's nobody that will ever operate like the
Joker does.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
He's too spectacular.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
I mean, sometimes coaches and gms will say things right
and the talk shows, I mean, listen, I will say
that I tend to read into everything, or they sect everything,
and sometimes I am a little bit glible and we'll
take things at face value. So this is one of
those moments where I'm like, huh, it's a very fascinating

(23:45):
thing to say, because he didn't have to say that,
he could just say what an upgraded center he represents
for us. He did say, I think two days ago, well,
what we love about him is he's a starting caliber
center that we have that when every time he's in
the game, we have basically a starting caliber center at
all time.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
I think that's true. I think he's a really good player.
I mean, I got to be honest about it. When
when they consummated the trade, I thought, Okay, first, is
this really true. I mean, the Nuggets didn't give up
much and they got a guy that can play. He
is very skilled. I agree with ooh, he's not the joker,

(24:26):
but nobody else is either. We've never seen I mean,
in I've watched the NBA since the late sixties, there's
never I've never seen a footer that has this kind
of just overall skill in terms of his passing, his anticipation.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
I mean, he's he's a wizard with the ball.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
That said, Valanciunis is a very good player and can score,
he can protect the rim.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
I think he's smart.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
I think that was as big I would say of
all the additions to the Nuggets this year, and I'm
a big Bruce Brown fan, love Bruce Brown. To me,
Valanciunis is the biggest, one hundred, the biggest, no doubt,
because also what it does for Jokers minutes. How many
times have we saw in the past where they're playing

(25:19):
an Orlando Magic team where you're expected Joker to play
twenty four minutes, but all of a sudden, the Nuggets
go out there and they're just, you know, kind of
sleeping in the first half, and now Joker has to
play thirty four Like that wears on your body for
a season. I think the best of NICOLEA Jokis is
you have to come because.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
Of this move of that and then Jonas, Honestly, as
I continue to think about this and the process of
not only acquiring because you said you got them for
well you got them for better than nothing because you
actually wanted to move on from Dario Sarach. But if
this deal hadn't gone through, it probably would have taken
a big hit to my expectations of what this upcoming season.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
Sure to be because you still have the problem that
Oh alluded to. You still have, I mean, you still
have the issue. If Valenunis is not here. Who is
going to allow us to sit the big fella down
for more than a couple of minutes over an eighty
two game regular season so that he's not exhausted as

(26:24):
easily in the playoffs. Valanunis, I'm telling you for people
to have I mean, I have always been really impressed
with him. He's a big, thick body that can protect
the rim. He's a better rim protector than a joker.
I think he's got defensive he's got decent offensive ability.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
I think he's a pretty good passer.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
You got a nice little, you know, mid range game
that he can score, and he's going to rebound.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Man.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Again, I thought that was a huge pickup for the Nuggets.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
And the last thing I'll add to that is he's
good at, you know, playing the game of basketball that
needs to be played at times to get a person
into foul trouble, to have to force a team to
sit a person that they don't want to sit in
those in those crucial minutes.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Are we still I don't know.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
I guess I don't want to be overboard about the
murkiness of some of his comments or the way this
is played out.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
How are we sitting with that today. I mean, I'm
with you, Dave. I never sit in murky water. I
know that about you from the day when I met you. Ye,
clean water, I have clean water. It's a big deal. No,
I don't.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
Are you worried that he's not going to be here?

Speaker 2 (27:42):
No, I think he is.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
I just I feel like he could have put a
lot of this to bed by just being clear and
concise with his message. Now it's being translated and yeah,
it's you know, third party at this point. But yeahs
like he could have he could have put all of
this like, is he does he want to be here?
Does not want to be here? Is he's signing with
He's not saying that. He could have just said I'm
whipped Denver Nugget, I'm very excited to play here.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
Yeah, that time. Well, I think, I mean, there's a chance.
We don't we don't know what he was told right
from the clippers. We don't know, you know, how honest
I will say, honest, we don't know how forthright the
conversation was. Maybe he thought there was a chance that
he could go to Greece, and maybe his wife wanted

(28:28):
to go back and live in Europe.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
So I wouldn't.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
I would read too much into it, and he hasn't.
He hasn't done his official that I've seen press conference.
As a nugget, I think the guy I mean to me,
I think the Nuggets would be smart right now. And
I would completely understand if they were working on trying
to keep him for more than a year. Lock this
joker up for no pun intended for a couple of years.

(28:53):
And let's roll.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
That was good. Lock this joker up.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
That's good. That's good.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Pretty good. Stuck from Shane Gellis last night, and.

Speaker 4 (29:05):
One to do it really was one. We were talking Rian,
you were talking about sacks and how they affect an
ability for an offense to score. Dave Platty, world class
stat guy does all the stats for me with the
with the Broncos, just texted me and said, I kept
that sack stat the last two seasons.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Now, listen to this.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
In twenty twenty three, all right, that's obviously before Nicks
Rocco quarterbacks were sacked on fifty two drives. Of those
fifty two drives, Denver scored eight times. They scored two

(29:48):
touchdowns and six field goals out.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Of fifty two drives.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
Wow, Stidham was sacked on two of those, but he
all also had one of the touchdowns. So that would
be Russell Wilson right in twenty twenty three, Yes, wait
is that?

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Is that Sean's first year?

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yep, ye it is so.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Will So Wilson was sacked fifty times.

Speaker 4 (30:20):
And of those fifty times that Russell was sacked, the
Broncos scored one touchdown and six field goals. Now fast
forward to twenty twenty four, Nix sacked on twenty two drives.
Broncos scored one touchdown and three field goals.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Wow, wow, that's remarkable. Yeah. So, I mean that stat
that Warren Sharp was.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
Talking about, and you hear, you know, Sean Payton harping
on how difficult it is to sack bon Nicks and
how much he appreciates that. And there there's there you
talk about analytics, that's proof right there, Like fellas, we're
not going to win if we're taking a lot of sacks.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
I mean that was kind of the point I made
about if Bonix would have had the same amount of
sacks as Jayden Daniels for forty seven.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Yeah, and like what that would have done to this offense. Absolutely,
it makes.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
This offense look drastically different because those that's a big
hole that you jeg yourself in. And it was already
hard enough for the Broncos last year. Now I think
it's going to be a lot easier this year. And
I do believe that we're going to see a natural
bump from bo Nicks and just being more comfortable in
this offense right and hearing it for a whole year

(31:42):
over and over and over again. So definitely fired up
about the season coming up.
