whiskey Thief call of the day. And the KSR Pre
Show is being brought to you by Cornbretdhip. Go to
(00:20):
Cornbreadhip dot com slash action for you to make your
voice heard to help save Hip. And all this week
we've had pill in guest host. It's been a lot
of fun. I've had some former Kentucky basketball players. We
had Wu on the show Tuesday. We had Richie on Wednesday.
I had Cameron Mills yesterday and Ryan. I've been trying
all week to recruit for the KSR team, but I
(00:43):
don't know that I was really successful. I got a
whole lot of maybes, is what I heard. But are
you are you going to play in the in the
KSR Media Madness with Mark Pope on the seventeenth of September.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Since this is the end of the week, this is Friday.
You've waited to the last day to bring the best
basketball player all surely okay, w you tried Richie, he
tried Cameron Mile. You forget you're talking to the all
time assist leader at Pike Central High School in Indiana.
Where are you gonna beg me to play on this
media frame?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Well, first of all, you gotta beat ninety one year
old Radio Ron in a race. I want to see
what happens with that. Are you actually going to do that?
Because you challenged Radio Ron yesterday?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Oh way, I didn't challenge Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah you did. Yeah, I mean did he challenge him
or not? Everybody's saying, yeah, you think it was Matt
like made that challenge. Where then you've doubled down though
you talked some trash to Ron and said that you
could beat him in a race. I have, like I said,
a few concerns. Number One, we're here at Oxmore Center
at Shady Rays, and I mean there's really not a
whole There's a parking lot out here, but you know
(01:41):
the parking lot can get a little busy. I don't
want anybody to get hit by a car. Number Two,
it's gonna be a little hot out here later on,
and you got a ninety one year old running a race.
I don't want anybody to drop dead of a heart attack.
And then you got you, who you know? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Are you in the greatest shape too? I am in
horrible show.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Okay, see, I don't want you to like tear a
hamstringer or something here.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
I think the race is only going to go from
that light pole to that lightpole.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Okay, it's a ten yard day.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
All right. If we do that, then then I feel
good about it. We're here at Shady Rays, like I
said in Oxymore Center in Louisville, in store today, only
forty percent off two or more pairs when you buy.
And of course you can always use promo coke KSR
for thirty percent off all polarized sunglasses at Shady Rays
dot com. I was thinking on the way here, you know,
we come to Shady Rays quite a bit. Who are
(02:28):
the celebrities that you rarely see without sunglasses? And I
came up with two answers. Hank Williams Junior. Good, you
hardly ever see Hank Williams Junior without shades on. And
then number two was Howard Stern Howard Stern always wears shades.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Are there any others that you can think of? Got
like people that are well known that you rarely see
without sunglasses on.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Jack Nicholson is the first one came to my mind,
But I think it takes him off. Take him if
he's watching the Lakers games but he only wears sunglasses.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Okay, I guess I'll count that one, But I don't
know that he wears them as much as like, you
never see Hank June. You're Howard Starr without sunglasses. I mean,
even when they're indoors, they got they got the shades on.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, if you're a movie star or a musician, rock
and roll star, if you're Shanning the dude, you're always
wearing sunglasses inside.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I don't. I don't wear them inside. But you know,
it's funny that Josh Hopkins on the show yesterday. A
lot of people enjoyed him being on the show. He's like,
I don't wear sunglasses, and I'm going, really, from a
movie star that doesn't wear sunglasses, that's kind of rare.
You don't normally that's the stereotypical thing that you see
a movie star wearing sunglasses.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Especially good looking dudes. Good looking dudes in Hollywood, man,
they're always wearing sunglasses. So I was kinds of Prockety
said that too.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So we got some news, of course, going on today
with the courthouse and in Louisville, where we're gonna determine
a judge will determine later on today, maybe during the show,
whether or not fifth year athletes will be able to
play another year. The guys who just graduated, you just
went through four years, now that the five for five
(03:58):
role is an effect. And now there's a lot of players,
or a group of players, I should say, not a
whole lot, but a small group of players who are going, well,
what about us, you know, we we want to play
another year? And Mark Mitchell filed that case in Kentucky.
It's gonna be happening in Louisville downtown later today where
a judge will decide whether or not guys like Mark Mitchell,
(04:19):
what do you think the ruling will be? Do you
think that the judge will will allow him to play
a fifth year?
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Even though the.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Judge is apparently a big Louisville fan, a Louisville alumnus,
I think he still makes the approval. I think he
still gets these other nine of them. I think nine
filed sooth he'll make all nine of them eligible. And look,
we gotta be honest. Yeah, Matt Jones is so happy
that this is happening, the court kines is happening during
his radio show. I mean, his his nerd geekness of
(04:44):
you know, the law and being the radio hole is
kind of colliding today. It's gonna be hard to keep
him from watching that zoom link during the show.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, and I don't know if that leak leaked out
or not, but I'm sure there will be a lot
of people watching it.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
If so, well, he didn't put it out there, but
I'm I'm if you're interested, I'm sure you can easily
find this link.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
That's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, it happens at eleven o'clock downtown here in Louisville today.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
So, you know, I was looking up a little bit
about Mark Mitchell. He played at Duke.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Yeah, I did started Duke.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
He of course played at Missouri. But he's a guy
who's six foot nine, two hundred and thirty pounds, and
as I'm you know, watching some of the highlights I'm thinking,
you know, Mark Pope has talked about in the off
season a lot this summer that the weakness for his
team he believes is going to be physicality. So I
think that, you know, adding if we're able to get
Mark Mitchell and add him in on that fifteenth and
(05:31):
final roster spot, that could go a long way for
adding some physicality to the team.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
I think he's the missing link. He's the guy that's
a position of need. You need a big, strong, physical
power forward. He's that guy. And you know he scored
like what thirty points against us we played him last year,
So you plug him into this line if you've already
got you do add it to add a different element
to this what roster that Mark Pope has constructed. So
I think it's huge makes a huge difference maker for
(05:58):
this basketball team.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Yeah, we heard you know the media members who have
been at practice and even from Mark Pope himself. The
defense is also going to be a worry, and these
are I think, just guys that are gonna be able
to shoot the ball, but maybe not be able to
guard anybody. To me, like, I know that that's you
can't play defense. That's a problem. But as long as
you've got good shooters that that's going to be at
(06:21):
least a fun style to watch. But you may get
in a situation to where even good shooters have bad
nights and then you get blown out by somebody, and
I hopefully you don't have a run a run back
of Gonzaga like last year, where you don't just get
blown out because we can't we can't shoot the ball
in a particular night.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
You know, the SEC is so physical, you need to
have some sort of physical presence in the post. And
if Papaul Frank you know he's still trying to battle
back from his injury. Yeah, but outside of him, Justin
McBride's like your next physical guy. Mark Mitchell brings a
whole new element to this basketball team. And that's why
I think it's such a huge addition if they're able
to pull this off.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Big Blue Madness was also announced. It's going to be
on October second, it's earlier or earlier year, so you
know they I thought Pope did a good job the
first year bringing back Rick Patino as a surprise last
year was John Wall anybody you'd like to see him
maybe bring back as a surprise for this year me
you Yeah, you think that you're going to be the
(07:15):
big surprise, big prize. Yeah, any former coaches, maybe Tubby.
You know, he was just announced that he's going into
the NCAA Basketball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
He would be perfect.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Definitely, that's a great call to bring Tubby back and
let him have his moment, give him his flowers a
little bit. But you know, they moved it to October second,
the first exhibition game. The only exhibition game is October sixteenth?
Are they not going to add another exhibition game? Usually
play at least two. I don't know if you can anymore?
Can you play one in the open to the public
the other one? Maybe it's a secret scrimmage or something
(07:45):
like that.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah. I didn't say that they were limiting the exhibition
games to one, but maybe so. But you know, do
you think that Big Blue Mannis still has the excitement
built around it that it used to. You know, they
took away the camp out, yes, which we haven't had since.
Still where's Marsha? Yeah she's yeah, she's mad about it still.
I know she's she loves her camp out. I wish
(08:08):
they would bring that back, but I don't know for
what reason. Uh, for whatever reason, they're just not really interested,
it seems in bringing that back. It went away, you know,
kind of during COVID and then they never tried to
bring it back.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
And ever since then it has kind of lost a
little bit of its luster. You know.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
The the highlight was just what Matthew Mitchell was going
to dance to or what kind of little act he
was going to put on out. That was kind of
the highlight, the introductions of the players and Matthew Mitchell's dance.
So they tried the last couple of years, I think
with Pope tried to juice it up a little bit.
You know, he brought back Patino and all those guys
last year and or that two years ago. Uh, you know,
had the slam dunk contest, the three point contest. That's
(08:45):
kind of the highlight. But they need to like juice
it up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
And I don't know what you do to to do that.
You know, it could because they're still gonna do the
same things that they always do. They're gonna run through
the drills, they're gonna do the three point shooting contest,
the dunk contest. But outside of that, you know, I
don't have, Like you said, Matthew Mitchell, that'll come out
and dance. Can we ge Kenny Brooks to come out
and dance?
Speaker 2 (09:04):
So you had what Betina was two years ago, John
Wall was last year. They do make a big splash.
You need to make some celebrity or UK guy or
something and they'll look come up with something. Market Department's
pretty good about coming up with something right to help
them juice it up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
But when you do John Wall and it comes out
and does the John Wall Dance at Big Blue Madness
last year, you know it's getting harder and harder to
top the previous year. So it'll be interesting. So you
do you have an idea? I mean, not necessarily, I
mean you could bring back You can't bring back like
guys like Anthony Davis because they're still playing. You know,
(09:39):
you can't bring back some of those guys. Maybe somebody
from the twenty twelve team that's still not we'll see
that's when I'm still not playing.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
I'm gonna say this is the fifteen year anniversary of
the twenty twelve championship team, right eleven twenty twelve team,
Maybe you bring back everybody that's still like that can
come back. Of course, Anthony Davis will be hard to
get him back that time of year, but maybe everybody
else can make it and celebrate the twenty twelve team.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Also, the news came out that Kentucky is at at
Wichita State, which you were not impressed with at all.
You've been You've been really vocal about the lack of
you know, big time games that would get you excited
as a fan to go play or to go see
the team play at RUP on a non conference game.
Wichita State, for you, you said, doesn't really move the
needle for you at all. It doesn't get you excited.
(10:24):
It's not a sexy game. And Josh Hopkins said that
yesterday and then Matt didn't fuss at him. I can
say here on your show, it's not a sexy game.
I'm so used to like.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
After the college football season was over, those first three
saturdays in December, Kentucky was playing North Carolina, Indiana, Louisville,
Michigan State, just some power teams and usually two or
three of those we're at RUP. Well, now at UP,
We've get the Louisville game and the next most interesting
game is Wichita State, and then the next most interesting
game under that is James Madison and then you've got
(10:54):
Gardner Webb and Brian Bryan Old in Arizona. And it's
just if you're a season ticket holder for Kentucky, I
mean you we ain't scared of anybody.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Man. We play. We want to play the best of
the best.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
We want good games, bring them home, schedule some of
these home games at non conference home games right at Reparena.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Unfortunately, I just don't think they'll do that in the future,
because we know the money is playing these games at
Madison Square Garden, or we're playing them in Chicago or
playing them on these neutral site games, and they're always
going to follow the money, right, I mean, it's just
the way it works. That's that just makes the most
sense economically. So I think that's gonna be something that continues.
I don't think that they're just going to bring in
(11:30):
Duke to Reperina. As much as we would love to
see that, I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon,
just because the money you can make by putting it
on a neutral court.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
And like Matt pointed out, you know we're locked.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Into that a sec ACC game, We're locked into the
Indiana Series, we're locked into the Champions Classics leveling in Louisville.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yeah, so it really only leaves you one or two
games that you have to work with.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Agreed, I totally agree. But why not bring in somebody
maybe a little more so?
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Who would you want? Who would you suggest I'm gonna
just throw it out there to you, Ryan lemon Us
to fill in our last game on the schedule. He's
been complaining about the lack of teams that would get
fans excited to see play at Rupperina. So who would
you bring in?
Speaker 3 (12:11):
See that you put me on the spot, you see,
I know, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
No, if you're gonna criticize Kentucky's scheduling, I want to
see who's who's your replacement?
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Who would you come up with this better?
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Because my my, my answer always in the past was
like Gonzaga, Well they tried that, they did a little
you know series.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
I don't think we want any of Gonzaga. That didn't
work out too well, you know.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
And then for a while, you know, Villanova was an
answer when Jay Wright was there and they were winning
out a game.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
So now would it be Yukon Yukon's the next answer.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
I think if you're if you're gonna play this a
SEC challenge, you gotta go outside of the a SEC.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Yukon may be the right answer. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
I mean you could play teams that are historically good.
But like if I said to you, Okay, we're gonna
play u C. L A. Yeah, they're better than Wichita State,
But I mean, is that does that get you excited?
Speaker 3 (12:56):
And we had that series with them and it beat us.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
They beat us at RUP, they beat ushen we went
out to Polypvillion, move on to somebody else. So the
pool of schools you want to play does get a
little smaller. Maybe that's why we're playing Wichitall State. So
we tried GONZAG and we tried to UCLA.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Didn't work out.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
You know, they were trying to work out that series
with Michigan. You know, they had the game and whether
they played Michigan and what with London and they were
going to yeah at the O two Center. Yeah, so
maybe that might be a team you want to maybe
could bring in. Yeah, I think that would definitely move
the needle.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
But again, I don't know that they would agree to
a home and home I think they would probably want
it on a neutral site game and that doesn't really
help you out at that point out yesday.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
You know, they make so much more money in these right, yeah,
showcase games.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Right and then you got you know, teams like Duke
that are putting in their games on Prime. See that's
not I think that unfortunately we hate these streaming games,
but I think a lot of the games in the
future are probably going to go that way where you've
got random games on Prime. You've got to try to,
you know, figure out what your log into this app
just to be able to watch the game. And they're
not just going to be on ESPN and SEC Network
(13:56):
or you know CBS that they're going to streaming to
where now it's really a pain to try to find
the game. And we've seen that with football. You know,
with the streaming games.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
It's a money thing.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Though you know you'd be to put them on the channel,
you have to have to subscribe for make more money
from it. I used to think I would have wanted
to play West Virginia when when Bob Huggins was there,
they got Virginia on the schedule, and that's the Virginia
is the acc game this year.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah, but you know you, I kind of hear what
you're saying. With Wichita State. You beat them, Okay, you
beat Wichita State at home, but if you lose that game,
that's a game you could potentially lose. And we had
a lot of those games a few years back, like
Richmond that they lost at home UNC Wilmington, which you
don't feel like that's a game you're going to lose
a home. But of course they lost that one. But
you know, Wichita State is a team that could maybe
(14:41):
sneak in there and get you. So there's really not
a whole lot of benefit to play in that game
because if you win, I don't think that really boosts
your NCAA tournament resume. It doesn't really help you out
a whole lot. But if you lose, then it's a
bad loss. It's kind of like you raising Radio Run.
Like if you beat Ron today in a race, Yeah,
you beat a ninety one year old man, of course
you beat him. But if Radio Ron comes out here
and beat you in a race, that just I mean,
(15:02):
we're gonna mock you forever. So I don't know why
you would sign up for this rais is what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Oh, my hamstring is hurting right now. My back doesn't
feel very good.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
We all live out here at Shady Raise. We're gonna
make it happen. You can't back out now like we
are going.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
If he shows up.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
If he shows up, if he he will, don't worry.
Radio Ron's not scared of you. He'll show up. Shady
Rays here at the Oxmore Center in Louisll. We're gonna
be out here for the next few hours and again
if you come in here today in store only today,
forty percent off two or more pairs at Shady Rays.
They have great quality sunglasses, basically the same quality sunglasses
you would get at some of those other stores that
cost you two hundred dollars. Much better prices here, great quality,
(15:40):
Over three hundred thousand five star reviews, and millions of
people have switched to Shady Rays. You can do the
same as well. We're gonna take a break. We'll take
your calls. Coming up next eight five, nine, two, eight
oh twenty two eighty seven. It is the KSR Pre Show.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Welcome back. It is the.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
KSR Pre Show live here at Shady Raise at the
Oxymore Center in Louisville. A couple of more celebrities that
you'll always see wearing sunglasses. Let's see one person writes
and it says Eric Church. Eric Church, the singer. Do
you know the country singer Eric Church.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
I don't know if he always wears sunglas.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
I've never seen him without sunglasses.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
A couple more.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
It seems like a lot of musicians are the ones
you never see without sunglasses on. Slash is a good one.
Slash you rarely see Slash from Guns and Roses without
his sunglasses. And then what about Bono from You two
as well? I don't think I've ever seen him without sunglasses.
Ringo Star, I think he Ringo Star is a good one. Yeah.
Well back in the day, Ringo didn't, but now it's
(16:33):
become like his signature. Look, Ringo has always got the
sunglasses on. But I was in there shopping around and
I got me up here today that I picked up.
I really like these. I'm either a wayfa aviator. You
got the aviators on right now?
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Right? Those aviators are prescription Shady Race sunglasses.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
But they're the Aviator's style.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Well, they just call it the Joe Biden look.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Okay, Joe Biden. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got the wayfayirs on.
But they've got like a new assortment of glass is
in there for people to do, like the outdoorsmen not
you and I definitely not you, and I are definitely
not Matt. Guys that you know like to go out
and hunt. And they got some for fishermen where if
you drop it in the water, they float. I don't know,
(17:13):
like if you drop these in the in the lake,
what they always sink? I guess. So they've got some though,
that will float, which is kind of cool. People seem
to be really enjoying. Josh Hopkins on the show yesterday,
here was a question for you, if you could be
an actor in any movie, what would it be? I
like that question. Do you have one that comes to mind?
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Oh, it's got to be a sports movie for me.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
You know baseball.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
You always talk about Field of Dreams makes you cry.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
They just had the Field a Dreams game last night,
by the way, but it does that what.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
They did had it on this that it was on Netflix.
See that's what I'm talking about with these streaming games.
I didn't even know it. So they had the Field
of Dreams game last night.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
I was not.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
I was watching the Packers in the exhibition game with
the Steelers. I didn't even know that the baseball the
Llies and somebody, yeah, twins, will Is and Twins. They
do anything cool other than come out of the cornfield.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
You know, Matt let me give me his tickets when
the Reds played the Cubs up there a couple of
years ago.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
It's one of the neatest events I've ever been to,
just to see him. They do. They walk out of
the players walk out of.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
The cornfield to come on to the stadium, and it
is literally built in the middle of this cornfield. It's
it's an amazing sight to see, especially your baseball fan.
So to answer your question, if I had to pick
one movie, that's the movie Okay, play Baseball on the.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Field of Dreams. During the Field of Dreams?
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Was that your favorite movie of all time?
Speaker 2 (18:33):
That one in Hoosiers, the Basketball movie because it was
filmed in a lot of locations where I grew up.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Love that movie too.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
I think for me, I've told you I like my
favorite movie. I like the weird movies, you know, just
for whatever reason. I really just eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind. Have you ever seen that one.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
I've seen it.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
You need to see that one. It's an old movie.
It's been out for over twenty years with Jim Carrey
and Kate Winslet. Great movie.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
The other one I really like is Vanilla Skuy. Now
that's Tom Cruise. We were talking about Tom Cruise. Want
to be Tom Cruise in that movie because he's like
a multi millionaire who lives in New York City and
the Dakota Building. The only problem is he gets his
face kind of messed up at the end of the
movie because he's in this awful crash. So I don't
know that would like that part of it. But if
I could be in any movie, I think those would
be the two.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Did you watch the start of episode two of Adults?
I did.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
I did watch that. I watched, and I understan did
anybody else watch Adults? Anybody? No, you probably should in relation. Yeah,
it's probably a good thing that you didn't. I mean,
I just did that because Matt suggested it. I had
never even heard of it before. I neither, but I
went immediately to episode two, and in the first five
minutes I understood understood why he said that a lot
(19:38):
of people were like turned off by it and didn't
go back and watch it. So probably a smart move
for them to go back and do a pilot episode
like a prequel after the series had come right to
sort of ease you into what happens in season two
right away.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
If our two mothers are listening right now, I just
skip that one. Yeah, just find another. I just don't
even watch it in general. I mean, there's so many
options out there.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
That was something I didn't even know was a show
until Matt suggested it to us a couple of days ago. Hey,
twenty two eighty seven, who do we have up first? Liam?
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Don? Don?
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Hey Don? How are you?
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Hey? Hey guys, good morning. Ryan was bringing up about
the fifteenth anniversary of our last national championship. And I
had heard a few weeks ago on another station that
Adolph Rupp was hired as UK basketball coach in nineteen
(20:36):
thirty and they started the NCAA Championship series in thirty nine.
And do you realize that Kentucky never won its first
national championship until nineteen forty eight. But if us as
(20:56):
a fan base, and I'm one of them, baby where
it's impatient, then as we are now, we would have
not had four of the eight banners that we've got.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Yeah, there's a lot of truth to that. It's a
it's a different world that we live in now, it's
much more past pace. Yeah it is. I mean now
it's instant gratification, Ryan, And I don't know if I
appreciate the call down, thank you for calling in. I
don't know if it's social media that maybe contributes to that,
but it's a very much what have you done for
(21:30):
me lately? World that we live in. And I think,
you know, just being able to pick up your phone
and have anything that you want. You know, I could
pick up my phone and have food delivered to me
here in fifteen twenty minutes.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
You know.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
It's just the world that we live in where it's
instant gratification. And I think that probably has a lot
to do with fans impatience, you know, the lack of
patience that they have for results when it comes to
their favorite sports team.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah, the least they give a coach is a short
least anymore. Yeah, you got like two years max, maybe
sometimes three if you don't get it done. That's why
this is important year from Mark Pope. He's got to
get the fan base back, and he's got to get
some wins back, and he's got to have some success
this year.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
I want to talk more about that after the break,
because there was a publication I think Myron Metcalf actually
put it out there, the selling in the basement for
Kentucky basketball. I want to ask you your opinion on
what you think would happen if somewhere in the middle
Kentucky finished in the middle of what he expects. We'll
come right back a FOB nine two eight, twenty two
eighty seven live at Shitty Raise. It's the KSR pre Show.
(22:28):
All right, welcome back, It is the KSR pre Show.
We've got a good little crowd building up here. Okay,
hold on, you guys could do better than that, because
I know Matt will not let you guys get away
with that. Let's try it one more time. Welcome back
to the KSR pre Show. There you go, see Matt
would Matt wouldn't just let him get away with Yeah,
the Alex have a big, big applause here, a little
(22:51):
hooty and the blowfish hooting blowfish, So you're gonna be
coming to Bourbon and Beyond with me right.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
For hooting the blowfish, and I think Dave Michaels, Dave Matthews.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Vanleagan Michaels, Dave Michaels.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Huh, that's Dave Matthews brother. Okay, Dave Michaels, Mike. They
play on the same night.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
They do.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
They do play on the same night. Now I'm looking
over here to my left, and I see a rock
star back there. Radio Ron, your challenger is here. Give
it up for Radio Ron.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
He's got sweat bands on.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
He is ninety one, and first of all, I would
just be happy to make it to ninety one. But
he looks to be in great physical shape.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
He does. Look at that.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
I mean a guy that's out there jumping in the
sand pit and racing, and I don't care that he
competes against nobody else. I think that he's gonna beat
you today. He's gonna do the uh what, the javelin
throw and the discus throw? Yeah, shot put ten events,
ten events that he's doing. So, man, God bless you dude. Yeah,
be in that kind of shaping condition. That's amazing. I
(23:45):
want to talk to him and like, all right, what
are you eating? What are you what kind of lifestyle
do you have? So I can.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
It's that good clean living.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
I guess it is.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (23:53):

DraftKings dot Com slash promo's limited time offer, Ryan, I
agreed to do another night working at the Kentucky State Fair.
They keep asking you see that. Now they know that
I like the State Fair. Now they're like, will you
come introduce Hairball? Will you come introduce the Kentucky Headhunters.
I'm like, all right, twist my arms. So I think
I'm going to be out of the State Fair, which
we're out there by the way, next Friday, I'm going
(24:56):
to be out there that night. The next night to
Blackstone Cherry, I'll be out there that night. Then the
next weekend is this other hair band tribute band that
you would you would actually like them? I think they
played def Leppard and all those eighties bands that you like,
and then Falkkat in the Kentucky Headhunters. So I'm going
to be out there just about every night of the
State Fair.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Don't act like you don't love.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
I do. I do love.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I'll do it out there. Those are your people, man,
You're out there amongst them and you're right at home. Yeah,
those people walking around.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
So yeah, like I said, we'll be out there. I'm
not sure what wing because I know people always ask
us like, is it West Wing, East Wing South Wing.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
I don't know, we'll we'll let you know that the
band hairball Hairball, that's a great that's a great name
for a hair band tribute ball, Yeah, hear ball, I
love it.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Uh, all right, So we were talking about this before
the break. We'll get to the calls in just a minute.
Eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
But ESPN and uh he was Myron Metcalf to put
out this h He's going around and doing what he
thinks is his uh selling and basement basic four and
selling for every college basketball team. And he says for Kentucky,
(25:59):
best case scenario, thirty wins, second in the SEC Elite eight.
Pretty good, right, pretty good? Yeah, I think fans would
be pretty happy with that. Worst case scenario, he says,
twenty wins, eighth place in the conference, and a first
round loss in the tournament. If that happens. Let's just
(26:19):
hope that doesn't happen. But let's say worst case scenario,
it's tough to bring them back for another year, right,
Mark Popen. And that's what we just talked about with
that last caller, though, is instant gratification if you don't
get it done. In three or you know, two or
three years, we're already looking for the next coach.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
You know, fans were grumbling last year when they had,
you know, a second round exit, had to play on
Wednesday night.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
And let's not forget I mean it took a miracle
shot from O Way just to get to the second almost.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Should have probably had a first round loss.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
It should have.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Yeah, you were in the opening round and the Wednesday
night games of the SEC tournament.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Fans were un happy last year. If that happens again
this year with this roster, a better roster, I think
fans will.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
They're hit my explode.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
So that's why I think the Mark Mitchell edition is
a huge.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah, I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Think if that would happen if they have somebody like
Mark Mitchell come on his team.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
So now, what usually happens when you have these predictions
is somewhere in the middle. So let's say they get
to I don't know, twenty three or twenty four wins.
Let's say they finish fifth in the SEC. Let's say
they make it to Friday at the SEC Tournament. Let's
say they make it to the sweet sixteen. Though you
(27:30):
can't get rid of a coach that just made the
Sweet sixteen?
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Can you?
Speaker 1 (27:32):
And I think that's where you get a season of
fans divided. Some fans are happy, some fans are like,
that's not enough.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
And that's where you know. We have a new athletic director,
Jay Blatt. He you know bat Bat?
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Does he tried to take the l out Jay Batt?
Jay Batt?
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Bring in his own guy.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
He may think, hey, look the Mark Pope experience did
not work here. I have a guy I want to
bring him in. I know it can do to get
the job done. It'll be a tough, tough coup.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
It's a tough covid because you don't want to settle
for mediocrity. But then you also want to give the
coaches a chance, you know, because if you're gonna come
to Kentucky, Yeah, we want immediate success, but sometimes that's
just not realistic.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
This is my personal opinion.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
I think the team he has this year, we're gonna
fall in love with him like we did his first team.
These guys, I think they like each other like playing together.
You could tell last year there was just a little discombobulated.
Something wasn't right. I think we'll see this year's team
will be a lot like that first year team. When
they play hard, they knock off some teams you probably
shouldn't ere one not supposed to. And I think they
(28:37):
can really make a run that we'll all get excited about.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
I really do. Well.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
We heard, you know, Jack Gibbons when he called in
the day that they did the open practice. He was
saying that last year's team, and I didn't know this,
but he said, the last year's team really didn't give
off the vibe that they wanted to practice. Yeah, and
maybe thing, you know, we knew something happened after that
Lobo game. Something was just off with the team from
that point forward. But then he compared this year's team
(29:03):
to a lot like the first year, first year's team
from Mark Pope. Of course, they're a little younger this year,
but you know that has to get you a little
bit excited, especially knowing that there's a good chance that
we had in this Mark Mitchell uh player make baby
as soon as today.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Yeah, Jack said, this group they love being in the gym,
they love practicing together. They do work hard. Didn't see
that at times last year with some of those guys.
So That's what I said. I think we'll fall in
love with this team. That they'll lose some games they're
not supposed to, but they'll beat some teams maybe they're
not supposed to, and we're gonna get really excited about
it come March.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
All right, eight five, nine two, eight twenty two eighty seven.
Let's go back to the phones. Who do we have
next to whim? Andy?
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Andy?
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Andy?
Speaker 1 (29:38):
How are you hey?
Speaker 4 (29:41):
Doing good?
Speaker 3 (29:41):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Guys?
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (29:43):
I heard something the other evening on the Braves UH broadcast.
That's kind of interesting, they said. In nineteen twenty, the
fitball was banned from baseball. Yeah, but the thing was,
seventeen pitchers were grandfathered in and was allowed to use
(30:03):
it for the rest of their career.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Wise, everybody else was Is that right?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Wow, I've never heard that one kind of you're telling
me that nobody else could do the spit ball except
for seventeen players, who I guess threw such a good
spitball that the game wouldn't be the same without them.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
That's what they said, said, seventeen guys until their career
was over, was allowed to use it, grandfathered in, and
the rest of them wasn't.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
That's crazy. Yeah, that's really crazy, the outlawed.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
But okay, you guys can still throw in a legal
pitch anytime you want and it's okay.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Yeah. Anything else, Andy, do you have a hypothetical or
anything for us?
Speaker 4 (30:38):
Not?
Speaker 5 (30:38):
At the top of my head. I'll put up with
some Next week. I was going to tell you all
Tom Hart will be calling the Brats game on the
radio this weekend.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Nice. Yeah, I don't know if that's that. Is that
like a part time gig for Tom, because I know that.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
He has done.
Speaker 5 (30:53):
It's normally Ben and Darren and then Joe Simpson. As
he's older, he only does it basically when he wants to.
And Tom's done a couple series is now one with
Ben and one with Joe. Now he's doing with Daron
this weekend. Yeah, okay, I think he might be doing
the TV a little bit too. I just looked on
the radio, so I'm not really sure.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Thanks for the car, Andy, I appreciate you know, Tom,
I hate that they're breaking up the team and football,
But are they gonna move him out of the SEC
to another conference or what's what's the wayest with with
his situations.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
I think Matt kind of described it. It's it's almost
like he's getting a promotion, although it does take him
away from us, but he's getting kind of bumped up
to some better games. I hate they're breaking up that team.
That was kind of uh for us UK fans. We
kind of felt like we got to know these guys
and they kind of little send this little easter egg
during the during the broadcast. But I think Tom hearts
his dream. I think it's someday just to do baseball.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Yeah, I know he was love.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
I know he is. He was excited because he texted
Drew and I, who were both big Braves fans, his
his his shirt that he was gonna wear on TV
the next day for the first day that he did
that Braves vision brought cast, So I know he's excited
about that. Let's see. One person says Ryan would be Billy,
Bob Thornton and Monsters Ball because of the halle Berry
scenes and where John Travolta and Swordfish. Ask him about
(32:13):
those if you've seen those two and.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Yoga girls sitting right there, well, I'm sorry, very careful
what I say. She's sitting. She has to ride with
me all the way in the car.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Yeah, but I understand that. But Billy talked about how
he could get Jennifer Lawrence's number, and he just got married.
So I mean, if Billy could talk about Jennifer Lawrence
and still get married, I think it's okay for you
to mention your love for Halle Berry. Well, theoretical love,
not real love.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
She did go on and on and on and on
on how much she loves Josh Hopkins when he was on.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
The show, So see, I think that's fair, though, you
could you could say that though, if one person says
sweet sixteen should never set the bar for the UK coach,
do you agree with that?
Speaker 2 (32:51):
I kind of agree with that. We're We're better than that.
We're Kentucky. We don't settle for a sweet sixteen.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
So even if he.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Gets there again this year, I think it's still kind
of puts them in a little bit of hot water
with Jay don't call me black.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Bat, Jay Batt. Who do we got next? Liam? Isaiah? Isaiah?
How are you? Isaiah? Good?
Speaker 5 (33:11):
Good morning?
Speaker 6 (33:12):
Hey? You all were talking about the face with madness,
ideas to get people's butt and seats. I know one
thing that'll get Ryan's button a seat is free T shirt,
and I'm thinking do like custom T shirts for all
the seats in the in the arena, maybe a poster,
custom poster with all the player's signatures on there, you know,
(33:32):
just something kind of unique to get everybody in the
building and get people excited for the new season and
do that kind of every year.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Yeah, as long as they give it to everybody though,
because you know, they royally screwed that up when they
did the promotion with the hard hat and they only
gave it to the lower level fans who probably, as
Matt said yesterday, never wore a hard hat in their life,
and then they left out the upper arena fans, so that,
you know, they got to include everybody in that.
Speaker 6 (33:59):
But you know, I'm talking all twenty thousand whatever. Yeah,
and really put those blue coats to work and force it,
you know what I mean, because everybody, you know, lost
their minds over the hard hats and the ad posters.
So that's all I got, y'all, have a good rest
of morning. Thank you all.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
All right, thanks for the call. Yeah, Ryan, if there's
one thing I've learned in radio all these years, is
that people love free stuff. It doesn't matter what it
is free T shirt, free stickers. If it's free people.
I literally had a guy almost fight me over a koozie, Yeah,
because I ran out of kozies and he showed up
at this remote and he was worries about coozie. I'm sorry, man,
you showed up the last five minutes. We're out of
(34:34):
kozies and he was ready to literally ready to square
off with me in the parking lot because I didn't
have a koozy for him.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
The guy has a great idea, and we talked about
those pope hats. Why not give everybody it comes to
madness a pope hat and a T shirt and a poster.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Just make it a fan friendly event. That's what it is.
This is an event.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
It's not a practice. It's a glorified fan event. Why
not make it a little more enjoyable for the fans.
Give him some of that stuff.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Ran.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Let me ask you something. Have you been driving around
ignoring your crack?
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (35:01):
I can't even see my crack, not even with the mirror. No,
well I get that good with the mirror.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Well yeah, if your crack is just getting bigger and bigger,
denial is not a repair strategy. You need to call
Right Way Auto Glass. They're gonna help you repair, repare
your crack in your windshield. Yeah, what did you think
I was talking about? Mind? Right Way Auto Glass. They're
locally owned and operated and they can come to you

you know, to get it repaired while you were here
doing the remote they could actually come to you to
do the replacement hassle free. How cool is that?
Speaker 3 (35:35):
That's very good customer service. That's right.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
You call them directly. You don't have to worry about
calling your insurance because they're gonna do all that for you.
They're gonna make it hassle free for you. You can

They've been a good friend of KSR. Two we had
we've done shows here in their store in the Summit.
We had one in the kind of at the Summit
coming up.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Also, yep, now we lost part of our crowd because
they brought the donuts. But I noticed who did not
go for the donuts.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Ron Radio Radio Ron.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Radio Ron's like, I'm not gonna stuff myself with donuts
before this race coming up.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
I'm not getting all that sugar fatty stuff in here.
Radio Ron, have a couple donuts for you.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
You worked in TV for a long time and I
woke up a couple of mornings ago to a text
on going who texted me overnight and it's one of
our mutual friends. I don't have to say his name,
but he works in TV And here was the text message.
And I just wonder, like, is this what you guys
just sit around talking about when you're not on the air,
like in you know, commercial breaks. But the text read,
(37:12):
hey man, big discussion tonight at the station. Sexiest music
video ever? Who do you got?
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Oh, that's a great question, and yes, is this is what.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
You guys talk about in the commercial breaks? The sexiest
music videos of all time? Absolutely, you're there till midnight?
My goodness, do you have one? Janet Jackson's got to
be your aunt.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Sanna Jackson when she's walking on the beach in that
white linen shirt.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
What song was that?
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Who cares?
Speaker 1 (37:37):
You just watched him on mute. I understand.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
There was the uh hot for teacher Van Hamlevan teacher,
And there was one where it's like something Texas, Matt
knows it and there was a girl in that video
hot to ask him.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
I can't think of the name of.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
It, but it was like, God blessed Texas. I blessed
God blessed Texas. Okay, yeah, yeah, by you. You know, well,
first of all, music videos, do they even exist? I
mean I guess on YouTube they do.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
You're right on YouTube.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
But I remember back in the early two thousands there
was a Christina aguilera music video that, uh turn check
check the box. I think turned Little Shannon's crack. Yeah,
so yeah, that would be that would be my answer.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Now I do have a ask anything question for you. Okay,
this is product to me the other day. Yeah, you're
a producer.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
So all these guests on the Tom Leech Leach Report
pre show KSR, who are the most famous people You've
had to talk to you on the phone to get
him on the show?
Speaker 5 (38:30):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Well, I mean I get Mark de Corsi every week. Yeah,
Dick by Tale, Yeah, Dick Vattel would probably be the answer.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
Jay Billis.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
Yeah, but who's bigger, Jay Billis or Dick Vitel. I
think Dick Vitel is probably more well known than Jay Billis.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Courtney Cox called her one time.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
I did well. Yeah on KSR, I did call Courtney
Cox once. It's probably bigger names on KSR though, because
Courtney Cox is she bigger than Dick Vitel. I don't
know how you would even gauge that. I have no idea.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
There are others that were missing.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
I feel like there was an actor that I called
one time, but I can't remember who it was.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Well, Josh had Chris John CALIPERI called him one time,
true Rick Pattino.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Rick had to call Rick Patino. So it just depends
on I guess what what your thought is on who's
who's bigger as far as who's more well known, who's
the phone who's the bigger celebrity.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
Mitch McConnell.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Miss McConnell called in. He called me, He called you.
I never will forget that he called in versus Mitch McConnell.
I'm like, is this like, how do I how do
I know you're Mitch McConnell. It sounded like Mitch McConnell, like,
how do I know you're Mitch McConnell. Sure, sure enough,
it was it was him. Let's try to sneak a
couple of calls in. Who do we have up next
(39:46):
to Liam? Kate? Kate, go ahead, Kate, Hey.
Speaker 5 (39:50):
I'm just going back to the blue madness.
Speaker 6 (39:53):
Who would be a great person to have?
Speaker 1 (39:56):
And I don't even know to be possible with.
Speaker 6 (39:57):
The season that Carl, he.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Just want to Yeah, yeah, that would be good, but
I don't know, so October, of course, Yeah, that would
be good. But of course he's still playing though. Also,
and I don't know, like when does the NBA preseason start,
because they start they start regular season games and like
the third week of October, So I would think that
he might be busy with the next obligations. But if not,
then yeah, of course that would be a great one.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
The fact they've moved it up October second may free
up some of these NBA guys a little bit.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Of Rich Shepherd.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Yeah, bringing de Marcus maybe DeMarcus might be a good one.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Yeah, that's a good one. Anything else, all right, thanks
for the call. Let's get one more on before the
end of the show. How do we have next? William?
Speaker 5 (40:39):
Eric?
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Eric? Go ahead, Eric?
Speaker 6 (40:42):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 7 (40:42):
Guys, just following up on a conversation y'all had about
free practices back in the day. I don't know if
you remember, in the eighties, we played a game in
Louisville every season, Ryan, you probably remember that. Oh yeah, Kentucky,
we had an annual game at Freedom Hall every year.
They had an open practice the Friday before the game,
(41:04):
and my grandparents would take me down and it was awesome.
It was it was an annual tradition and you could
mingle with the team and watch them practice, and it
was always packed. And I think, I think those are
really cool events.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
That would be cool, but I can't see. I I
appreciate the call because we're up against the end of
the show here, but I don't think that I can
see us playing a game at the Yump Center, not
playing against Louisville.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
Very true.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
I mean, maybe maybe Freedom Hall is still open. I
mean it's still a thing, but I don't know that
it would still have the uh.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
The attraction, the attraction. He's right, though they did have
the open practices. We talked about the open practice they
just had they used to have them.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Hey, big thanks to everybody for getting out of early
for the pre show. We are alive here at Shady
Rays KSRS coming up next, and don't forget in store
all day forty percent off two or more pair of
Shady Rays. We'll talk to you later on
