(00:00):
Live from Fremont Street Experience in fabulousdowntown Las Vegas. It's the podcast that
celebrates our city. This is LivingLas Vegas and welcome to a Tuesday on
Fremont Street. It's Mojoe from ninetyfive to five to bull I Sin Tony
right there from ninety three one tothe Mountain. Hello. I want to
talk a few things about Well, first, the overall Vegas being the most
(00:22):
fun city in America. It's officialnumber one, baby, and nobody's surprised,
right, No, not at all. What's your definition of fund I
mean they're talking about slot machines,Well they yeah, they described it as
events, parties, the night life, entertainment. Yeah, all of the
above. Have you ever had morefun in a city other than this?
No, I don't think so,like, not even close, right,
(00:45):
and any any almost challenging it.I'm just trying to get to the bottom.
Yeah, any other city that Igo to when it's like two am
and the bar has to close down, I'm like, oh, but I
don't. I'm not done with myparty yet, you know, and here
never ends. You don't got toworry about. I mean, it seems
like the easy answer that Las Vegaswould win that is there ever a year
when we don't. We'll talk aboutwho else came in the running, and
(01:08):
what the criteria was and all that. Plus we have a plethora of reasons
why as we reinforce that Umbrella's statementof us being America's playground. There's a
lot going on we do have. We're going to end today with a warning
though. As F one approaches, everybody eye rolls. There is some things
you need to know that could affectyou, especially if you're trying to get
(01:30):
out of town during that. We'llhave that coming up. We've got a
big New Year's Eve announcement we wantto talk about. I want to start
with something that happened to me thatmight be something that other people could be
dealing with, because it's funny andI've seen two other things happen just like
mine since I've done it, soI don't know if I started something in
my neighborhood. But we lost ourcat and my kids were freaking out.
(01:52):
My son was crying. It happenedlike Sunday sometime. Have a screen door.
It's been beautiful weather, so openedup the slider, let the screen
live. The house breathed a littlebit. Well, the cat has clawsed.
The cat likes a screen door.He kind of clawed at the bottom
corner of the screen found a wayout. Zeus right inside. Cat doesn't
go outside, no, So,you know, we didn't realize it until
(02:13):
the next morning. I was like, Hey, why is he any coming
down to get his streets? What'sgoing on? Oh crap. So I
just kind of thinking about that inthe back of my mind all day yesterday.
And so I took my son totaekwondo last night and I was like,
oh, shoot, we all havering cameras in our neighborhood. I
should post. And I see thesenotifications all the time, you know,
about lost pets or things happen inthe neighborhood, or traffic woes and that
(02:34):
sort of them. Like I alwaysignore them, but I wonder if someone's
paying attention in my neighborhood. SoI post, you know, a picture
of Zeus and put them up there, and sure enough, not even you
know, less than an hour later, someone writes said, hey, I
heard it was after dark. Iheard me owling in my backyard less than
ten minutes ago. So that gaveus at least hope, right, that
Oh my gosh, you didn't geteaten by coyote or a destination. You
know what I'm saying. Where tostart to look. It was in the
(02:55):
neighborhood. So we're like, allright, let's go grab the tree,
shake them up, and go screamhis name up, up and down the
neighborhood. It felt like midnight. It was five thirty. This usually yeah,
especially, yeah, yeah, especiallywhen there's streets. So we walked
the neighborhood and we were almost done, and we get back to the house
like two houses away from ours, and all of a sudden, around from
(03:15):
around the corner of someone's garage. Here he comes, kind of creeping around
and then he sees us here's thetreats, and comes running. My son
was crying. It was a great, happy ending. So I guess my
point with all this a lot ofit. He told me that I started
freaking out because if smoke Man evergot loose, and I don't know,
he's not chipped. I know, everybody listening get chipped to get up collar
(03:36):
or what? Did? What?Who's somebody else give you another suggest?
Sean the new morning guy, who'salready carrying his weight right with this tip
he's got his cat has like amedallion around his collar that has an air
tag in it. AirTags. Iwas like, dude, that's so smart,
right, So I'm gonna do thatnow with Zeus and he's chipped.
But that that requires the honor systemthat someone's going to do the right thing
(03:58):
if they find it. But tagthey going to do? What do people
do with cats that they find? They just decide they're not going They're just
going to keep a cat that's notthere, some cat from the neighborhood.
You're just going to keep it.People do that. Yeah, yes,
yeah, not everybody's as honorable aswe like to think they could be.
Right, you're stealing cats or dogs? Well, the neighbor there's something lower
that I've ever heard of. We'refriends with the neighbor to the neighbor that
(04:19):
the cat was at, and theyhave like three or four cats back there,
so wow, they probably he's like, oh one more get Jeuce was
always coming back. He knows wherehis food and his streets are. And
I did the whole put the litterbox on the back porch, thinking oh,
he'll find his smell eventually, butwe didn't want to wait on it.
We wanted to make action because youknow, there are coyotes. Were
next to a black mountain, whichyou know there's coyotes up there. Coyote
(04:41):
we you know, didn't want totake any precautions. We wanted to find
him before they did, you know. So they worked out. But the
REAP who knew that? People peopleactually read that thing. Yeah, yeah,
you got a bunch of everybody's gotnosy neighbors. I find it.
Just because you're not a nosy neighbordoesn't mean everybody else isn't paying attention to
every one of the those notifications literallyand all that stuff. I've literally tried
(05:02):
to silence that before and now I'mlike, I'm going to leave it open.
You never know if I can bea helpful human to somebody one day.
So I think there's a lesson inthere somewhere. But that air tag,
that's a good tip, great idea. Yeah yeah, yeah. Anyway,
back to the fund. Let's startoff with the Vegas New Year's Eve
Time of your Life announcement and thenwe'll talk about the criteria for how we
(05:23):
measure to be. What we allknow is Vegas the most fun city in
America. So we got the announcementtoday. Fremont Street, where we bring
you this podcast every week, isdoing what they do best, throwing a
party New Year's Eve. And ofcourse my Instagram goes away as soon as
I get to this. It's thetime of your life New Year's Eve party.
It's happening on New Year's Eve.Obviously it's life that would make sense.
(05:45):
There is a it's the only ticketedevent they do every year, and
you get to see kind of amix of alternative rock, e DM and
hip hop. It looks like ThirdEye Blind is going to be headlining Beach
Weather, Big Gigantic, Black StreetKidd and play Tone Look Young MC.
I mean it's an awesome lineup.Whoa And they'll you know, they'll have
DJs and pirate techniques and throw theparty that they do. It's definitely what
(06:10):
they normally do on their Fremont StreetDowntown Rock series, but on steroids,
right right. I mean that's whathappens when you have one of these kind
of things down here, is it'sbody to body and people having a party.
And it was like that for youknow, for Halloween, it'll be
like that. It'll be more thanthat for New Year's Eve and fifty dollars
tickets pretty reasonable? Would you considerhow much it is to go anywhere else
(06:32):
in Vegas on New Year's Eve?Yeah, that's you know, a car
payment, So fifty bucks ain't bad. If you haven't already booked your hotel,
now might be the move if you'rewanting to do a staycation so you're
not drinking and driving. And probablyno ticket if you've got a hotel right,
Oh, good point, you don'tneed a ticket, right, I
think? So. I think ifyou go on the website, because I
want to say that they did thatlast year, it's like one per hotel
(06:55):
room, I believe. I don'tthink one entry per yeah yeah, but
still, I mean that might beworth it right there. Then you kind
of one stop shop and you're setup for New Year's even. Don't worry
about traveling anywhere because that can becarried too. So yeah, there you
go. That's a cool lineup.But they're not blind. I just had
it that Seamafest, so I thinkthey waited till that, you know,
was over before they made the announcement. But I'm excited about Black Street too.
(07:18):
But you skipped over Thanksgiving drinks Givingwhich we didn't mention. And Shaggy
is going to be there for drinksGiving and the Yagy they do their onesie
black party the night before Thanksgiving. So that's the tickets required for that one.
Yeah right, Yeah, So FremontStreet knows how to throw a party
too, and every night insane peoplewatching. It's fun. It's fun to
(07:38):
go on a little perch here. We're right above our studios are right above
what is it Hennessy's right below us. Yeah, Mickey fans, Mickey fans.
We get a great view of thescale over at the heart Attack Grill.
So it's great people watching. Andyou know, to be right here
centrally located through all of that, that's a that's a fun party. So
I walk a street every day acouple of times a day, and we
have people who work here. They'relike, I've never been up to Circa.
(08:01):
Isn't that funny? It is funthree blocks from Circa. I go
over there like three times a week, right, you know, I'll just
go over there on my lunch andwatch some sports or whatever, you know,
go have a burger over there. So that's where you go. And
there's a lot of people here whoare like, I've never been to Circa,
how is that possible? It's justright there. I went for a
stroll with somebody who will remain namelessup to the Starbucks at a golden nugget
(08:22):
and they're like, this is thefurthest I've walked up for them, Like
really, oh my god, reallyit's crazy. That's crazy to me.
And yes, that is a greatplace to post up if you just want
to clear your head or maybe getinspired a little bit or get your creative
energy right. That's a cool placeto during baseball season, especially when there's
a midday game and you can youknow, like you can get a burger
and kind of watch some baseball.Yeah, I need to get over there
(08:45):
for more sporting again. When there'sa night's game on there. The energy
is almost as electric as being atthe Fortress. Obviously not quite as electric,
but I mean they're screaming and cheeringball. Yeah, it's a vibe.
Yeah. I don't know how wegot off on this tangent, but
Fremont Street has a lot of fun. One of the many reasons Las Vegas
is America's most fun city the factthat we needed somebody like wallet Hub to
(09:07):
put this in perspective for US isfunny. But in consideration you said this
is you get the whole article there. One hundred and eighty different US cities
are measured sixty five key metrics tofind the rankings, including entertainment and recreation,
nightlife, and parties, that sortof thing. However, it is
interesting. The one thing that wedidn't the metric we didn't farewell in is
(09:30):
comparing costs and expenses. Within thatwe're listened to eighty four out of one
hundred and eighty, so the middleof the pack. Some people think this
is an incredibly expensive place to live, and other people are like, oh,
that's pretty reasonable compared to La comparedto San Francisco. For the locals
listening, you know how to doVegas where you're not getting price gouged everywhere.
But if you're a tourist, yeah, you're gonna find it to be
(09:50):
more expensive because you're on the stripand that's where you know, drinks are
forty dollars and things like that.Yeah, I was talking about. But
even for locals if you move herefrom the Midwest, this feels like kind
of expensive place to live. Ifyou move here from California. This feels
like a reasonable place to live inrespect and or from Portland for that matter,
Portland was getting pretty crazy. Itturned into a lot of a lot
(10:13):
of the Silicon Valley type of peoplemoved up to Portland, and so Portland
quick quickly became that So moving fromone of those cities here felt comparable.
I get it. Then a coupleof weeks ago, who lives in Seattle
now, who used to live here, He said, what I miss is
how affordable it is. Oh wow, Well it's changed a lot since you
lived here, but still it's moreaffordable than where he is. Wow.
(10:33):
And when you look at housing andthings like that, I mean it's gone
up for Las Vegas. I mean, yeah, our standards. If you've
lived here your whole life, you'veseen it increase tremendously, but comparatively speaking,
still pales in comparison to you know, the Bay Area, or a
lot of California for that matter. So, but it's fun too, don't
get it to the thing. Weshould have a fun counter, Like,
(10:54):
how many times have we said theword fun so far since we started this
episode? Well, I mean,we have so many unique offerings. Let's
start with the only where do webegin, Oh, the Tamale Festival.
Yeah, okay, wait, Ithought you were going to spend more time
on the thing from wallet hup,now like why we're fun? That's pretty
much. That's pretty much the story. I mean night live parties, recreation,
(11:15):
interla parties. Ye, there aresixty five different metrics. I don't
have the entire list of all sixtyfive, but the metrics ranged from volume
of free city events first Friday. There's lots of goods we're talking about for
locals wise, yeah, sure, fitness centers, per capita, movie costs.
I mentioned the movie theater I goto where it's five point fifty.
I mean you go to a casino, you're going to pay a premium.
(11:37):
Average open hours of breweries we probablydominate that around twenty four to seven here
right the Arch district. There's somany different great breweries around there. I
mean, we have our share ofand it's it's compartmentalizing the right word.
We have areas don't have the rinks. Okay, I didn't know who else.
I imagine it New York, LAor Chicago maybe yeah, Land though,
(12:01):
but I mean Disney and all thetheme parks. I get where that
would be in there. Yeah, but it's no more fun. I get
it. I mean we are rightas you listen to this podcast, you
get the vibe of fun. That'swhat we do. Let's move to Tomales
in Marianchi. Oh, I didn'tknow this is. I know we have
all kinds of unique festivals here.I mean talk to the festival, the
pizza mine. The pizza fest waslast weekend bums too, But just going
(12:26):
on a tangent about that right now, I was like looking at their socials
and I'm like, who could gothere and eat that many slices of pizza?
Dude, Mojo, I would goopen to clothes and I would get
my money's worth because you go andyou pay a fee and you get to
sample all these different pizza's, likeforty different pizza places. They were legit
slices too. They're not just likelittle bites of a slice, like you're
getting a whole slice. Not themove if you're on a low carb diet,
(12:46):
sure, yeah, but if youwant to market calendars for Saturday December
second, they're doing that at CentennialPlaza and the Fifth Street School in downtown.
They have a free festival that's importantto say. Lots of different tomales
and varieties from all over Latin America. You can enjoy mariachi music. I
don't know how to say this word, Mexican anti hitos, I don't know
(13:07):
what that is. And a hostof artists and vendors, arts and crafts,
activities for the kids. It's afamily event. And did I mention
the word it's free. Yeah, clause is interesting. It's like always closed
off, but they open it upfor these kinds of things. It's like
a grassy area. It's a coolpart of downtown if you've never been.
Yeah, yeah, no, I'mexcited to stroll down there and see that.
(13:28):
That's before we get into the crazinessof NFR and after the craziness of
F one. So it's a it'sa good window of opportunity there to explore
downtown. Well, you've seen alot of movies coming here too lately,
thanks to in part Mark Wahlberg, who is actively trying to bring his Hollywood
pals here to do more movies, and lots to say stop with that.
Yeah, I mean you can comevisit and shoot movies all day long and
(13:50):
bring the tourism and book up hotelrooms. But let's not you know,
actually it's kind of fun that helives here. And you know, the
more the merrier. They're not competingfor the houses. I'm interested. That's
a very good yes. And no, you're right. The actors aren't the
people who the Hollywood you know, studio execs and all that. But you
know, all these grips and andthe crew and probably are so got to
(14:11):
be careful with that. But hehas a movie that he was shooting here
last year called The Family Plan.I don't recognize a lot of the other
names in the movie, but it'sstars mak Mark Wahlberg and it will be
out on Apple TV Plus December fifteenth. So if you're curious what this movie
is that he was filming, youcan check that out on Apple tv Plus.
(14:33):
I just thought we'd plug that sinceyou know it's all filmed in Las
Vegas. It's a family man witha dark secret who must take his wife
and their children on a cross countryroad trip to experience America's number one fun
city. I just added that inthere at Las Vegas. Oh my god,
remember that movie. Fear that hewas in that movie freaked me out.
Fear I don't remember that one.Oh Roese Riverspoon. Oh good,
(14:54):
it's a he was a psycho init. Yeah, that's why I was
like, he had a secret, and I was like, oh, reminded
me of fear. I'm guessing it'snot that kind of secret. Probably not.
It is a dark secret. Sowho knows. But I tend to
find myself watching movies even if I'mnot interested in the plot line of it,
just because it was filmed in LasVegas, A Vegas references. Sure,
for sure, don't you. Imean it's absolutely I'll watch a D
(15:16):
minus movie with a Vegas, theVegas and the title just to watch it
for the for the scenes and theshots. Well said, agree with that.
Because we are America's number one funcity. We need like a bell,
we need the fun bell every timeby horn. Yeah, there we
go. So you have that tolook forward to. Oh wwe fans,
(15:37):
Oh dude, this is cool.Mister Woo himself. Rick Flair is going
to be doing it again with theF word free free meet and greet for
fans at the Planet thirteen dispensary thisweek. It's happening from two forty five
to three thirty so like a fortyfive minute window Thursday. Laugh, gotta
be twenty one or over. Wedid this when Cheach and Shong were there,
(15:58):
Yes, dude, In fact,we had Chong. Actually Tommy Chong
called this podcast. That was freakingso cool. We got to get Rick
Flair on the phone. Yeah, and then if anybody listening that is part
of that organizing that all are atus. We'd love to have Rick Flair
on the podcast. I say wWE iconic, that's the right word.
Legend. I would say legend forsure, absolutely, Yeah, wrestling icon
(16:21):
wrestling, sure. I mean HulkHolgan and Rick Flair in the Rock those
are the three biggest names I wouldrock, Well, the Rocks the biggest
maybe, well sure, but asfar as rowdy Roddy Piper, Yeah,
what's the what's the sergeant guy?I've come from the eighties and nineties.
I'm older, not Sergeant Slaughter. Was it Sergeant Slaughter? Okay that sounds
(16:45):
right, Yeah, that sounds right. Jake the Snake Roberts, Yeah,
yeah, r I p But RickFlair ain't getting any younger either, So
no, he's seventy four, ishe? Yeah? Dude? Did you
just know that or did you, well, no, because I talked about
it, so I yeah, Italked about on the mountain. The secret
is what they have at Planet thirteen. Correct the secret correct good water fountains.
(17:07):
Yeah, I'm with you, Tony. We have a lot of fun
things in here. Our water ain'tso fun, so they must be doing
something right there Planet thirteen for that. So we got that. And then
of course we've our sports has leveledup in this city, obviously what we've
seen with the string of championships weput together with our Las Vegas Aces who
(17:29):
made it to the White House backin August, and now it's time for
our nights to be knighted by thePresident. Let's not make it political,
but they are going to get togo into the White House on Monday to
celebrate that Stanley Cup win. That'sawesome, not political. Yeah you say,
you say the president and people startobviously thinking going off, it's an
honor to go to the White House. It doesn't matter who the president absolutely
(17:49):
is. And as a fan ofLas Vegas sports, we should be proud
that we've had not one, buttwo sports teams and shoot, we're going
to have another one here coming up. The do the Aces get to go
again. They should. They shouldhave like an annual thing there anytime you
get a championship title boom. Ithink that's what the White House man,
(18:10):
I want that invite. I wantto say what to the I want to
say what to the White House.Once it was like a field trip.
Oh no, invited to go meetthe president. They're like here, look
at this where you do check somebalances or whatever. The White House should
(18:30):
really open up like an annex outhere because of I mean, you know,
cool that our teams get to goto Washington. But I mean,
with so many championships, we probablyjust ought to have like a little mini
White House in Vegas. Yeah,I don't. I don't hate that idea.
And I saw that it could spendhalf his time here. Sure.
I mean, look, the Fone just made that one of the new
(18:52):
buildings that they built is now goingto be their headquarters in America for the
F one. Is that right? That's going to be their permanent station now
wow? So yeah, we werequickly becoming the unofficial capital of America.
But he wants a Vegas office. Why should it the you know, the
White House should be no difference,a little Vegas office. I agree with
that. Let's make that happen.I mean, we are a swing state.
I mean there's a political Oh thereyou go, right, that's yeah,
(19:15):
that's a fair point. I likethe idea, like where you're going
with that. So, yeah, our Vegas Golden Knights get to go through.
I don't think we'll have a Raidersrun there anytime soon, although I
don't know. With the change ofthe guard. It turned out pretty aggressive
win. They're not out of itthis year. So they fired the coach.
Josh McDaniel's the GM the one ofthe top ten biggest thirst trap players
in America and Jimmy Garoppolo. Therewas a ranking on that and yeah got
(19:37):
bench, not fired bench. Sure, so they you know, have a
whole turnaround and turned it around, well at least for one game. Yeah,
what was it, thirty to sevenor something. They put hurting on
the Giants too, and the Giantsare bad, so that helps. Yeah.
Sure, But I mean if theycould beat the Jets this weekend,
now you get back to five hundred. This is what I was saying when
(19:59):
they fired Josh mcdanie. It wasn'tjust necessarily about bad football. When they
fired him, the team itself. You couldn't tell how good or bad they
were, but there were bad vibesand it was hurting the process. So
let's get this guy out of here. Let's get somebody in there that can
fire these guys up. And theywere definitely fired up against the Giants.
And now you got Sunday Night footballthis weekend against the Jets back at Allegiance
(20:21):
Stadium. The Jets didn't look greatlast night on Monday Night football, so
I'll love our chances to go fiveand five. You're not out of it
at five and five at all,No where are we in the division?
I should know this second in thedivision, But that's because Denver and the
Chargers haven't been great yet. Ohwith the Chargers win last night, actually
maybe their second now, but again, five and five, the Chargers are
(20:42):
a five hundred team. I mean, the Chiefs are the best team in
football probably, so it can't reallycount them. You're going for a playoff
spot as a wildcard team, couldstill make it a lot of games to
be played still, but you gotto play the Chiefs two times yet this
year. But win one of thosegames. What a statement, right,
And that's a statement. Yeah, that's that. That goes a long way
(21:03):
to get you a possible playoff birth. The last time they had an interim
head coach, they made the playoffs. So they get an interim head coach
this year. Just make the playoffsagain, and my kids will be happy
to know that. We have achance of seeing Taylor Swift in town not
once but twice this season. Soonce she will be here once. Oh
yeah, but yes, I don'tthink she's going. Is her tour got
(21:26):
dates in Europe or something? Yeah, I know she was going on a
big Europe thing. I say,we charter her yet get her here?
No, because then they win withher. No, never mind, we
don't want that to happen. That'sa double Yeah, that's right, that's
right, that's right. Yeah.I don't know how you feel about that.
Is it better to have Taylor Swifthere and take a loss or get
the win? I don't know ifshe's good luck like that, I'm not
sure. I don't think she makesa difference well, the game, the
(21:49):
game they lost. She makes adifference from a ratings standpoint, People watch
the games more if she's in thestand fairpoint, fair point. So yeah,
we will be anxiously awaiting to seeif the Raiders can continue that winning
stuff, which is not something they'vedone great at this season. We have
the F one coming up, andwe I don't think Mixfield. I think
(22:10):
we're all a little excited for thisto be over now, Yeah, but
then I mean, so I'm excitedfor it to be over, but then
at what point in twenty twenty fourdoes it start back up again? I
mean, it just feels like thisis going to be something that's kind of
hanging over and maybe when we seeit on TV will feel differently about it.
And I've tried to stay positive, but I've kind of lost all of
(22:30):
it. It just feels like there'stoo it's too much to preparation invasive right,
Like it's changed. It's literally changedthe look of our city for what
two months, and the look ofour city matters. We take pride in
it, and so yeah, I'mtrying to be negative about it. But
maybe I'll feel differently after the race, But right now, I'm like,
I can't wait for this thing tobe over. I'm trying to withhold all
(22:52):
judgment until after the race. Toyour point, we might see something that
is absolutely remarkable and puts our cityin a great light. And you know
there's something to be said for that, But at what cost and what inconvenience?
And it's interesting the attitude I haveand I'm sure a lot of people
do too, when it comes tobeing inconvenience for the cause of F one
versus the cause of improvement of ourinfrastructure. And here's my point with that.
(23:15):
I mentioned a few weeks ago theyput out cones up on Horizon Ridge
and Inderson where I live, whichis just absolutely Morse code. When you're
driving on it. The roads werepothole city, the worst I've seen in
town. So you know, whenyou're getting convenienced for them repaving the strip
and that area for the F onerace versus hey, this road needed it
and now it's going to take metwenty minutes ago what used to take five.
(23:37):
Yeah, it makes sense. I'mmore patient, and I'm like,
it's only in the last couple ofweeks, and when it's done, we're
gonna have better roads. I feellike when that's the reason I'm more behind
it than I am. They're justdoing it so that they can make these
Europeans a lot of money. Isthat the wrong attitude. I don't know.
Somebody said last week I think Isaw it on social that this really
isn't a race. Yes, therewill be a race going on, but
(23:59):
this is just more a show.Like, let's show off what F one
is. Let's do it on thisstage, which is one of the most
beautiful, coolest looking sites at night. Let's do it there and show the
world what F one's about. Weshow the world what Vegas is about,
and that'll be good for tourism andit'll be good for racing. And I
get all of that. And Idon't know exactly where I'm going with this.
Oh, but it's not just it'snot really the race. It's just
(24:22):
the show that we're putting on.I agree with that, and it's a
show we're gonna put on for sixyears. And if it's just the show,
like I guess, you can alsohave to show me what the economic
positive impact from all of it willbe positive negative, I mean, we
need to factor it all in.And is there any truth to some of
these rumors that they haven't sold asmany hotel rooms as they thought they'd sold,
(24:44):
that it hasn't been as good fortourism that weekend as they said it
would be, and they said it'llbe great for tourism, and it'll be
a great show that we're putting onfor the world. If it's not great
for tourism, there's gonna be alot of people asking a lot of questions.
Now we're locked in. We priced, we potentially price ourselves a little
high, and they set the barhigh for what you know, the price
point would be people are willing topay, And obviously that wasn't the case
(25:07):
in terms of the quantity of offeringsthat Vegas as for hotel rooms and that
sort of thing. It seems tome that one thing that I could see
them compromising on that they should compromiseon and correct me if I'm wrong,
some of the viewing opportunities for peopleto see it at a very low rate.
That look, if you put upblinders to where I can't see the
race from my hotel room or whereverthe perch might be, are you pushing
(25:32):
me to buy tickets or are youpreventing somebody from witnessing being a part of
this event that wouldn't be willing topay fifteen hundred dollars two thousand dollars for
intent give yourself some extra promotion, you know what I'm saying, like,
don't punish the people just because they'renot spending your thousands of dollars to attend
this race. And maybe the firstone you get more free vantage points.
And then next year they put upsome of the blinders, you know what
I mean, The first one's alwaysfree, right, people started tearing them
(25:56):
down to Yeah, but then theyput up those those fits in front of
the fence, so now you can'teven access it. They figured, we
talked about that. A couple ofweeks agof people were peeling off the stuff
on that pedestrian bridge so they cansee the sphere. Well, now they
reput it back up, and nowthey put fencing there so you can't even
like get to that, you can'tclimb up it. It's they they've thought
it through for sure. You know. You know what, that's not fun,
(26:18):
that's right, But all a bunchof chain link fence along the you
know, along the race route fortwo months leading up to it. Yeah,
dude, well we're going to havea Super Bowl here in a few
more months, and now you're notgonna be able to be watching the game
for free for sure. In personright, Well, we're gonna be able
to watch it for free on televisionand they will want two. Yeah,
there will be viewing parties where youwon't have to pay a cover or a
(26:42):
high cover to watch that game. Why I mean the f one stuff.
It sounds like if you're gonna getto witness it and you're gonna in a
public setting, you're gonna have topay some good coin to get into that.
I think some of the stuff goesaway in year two, three four
when they don't have to go inand repave again. They don't have to
complete it repaved to get rid toget ready for it. But the going
(27:03):
up of all of the grand standsand the chain link fences and keeping people
away from the route and keeping people'seyes off the route for a month six
weeks leading up to it, that'sall something I don't think any of us
really expected now, and nobody hasa great taste in their mouth about it
all. And we'll see how itall comes out at the end. But
again we're locked in. This isgoing to happen here for the next few
(27:25):
years. I'm curious to find outhow many, and I'm sure Harry Reid
will do this stat how many peoplefly in to Las Vegas over that stretch
of when F one is going, and when they fly in, how long
their stay is. Are they comingin just for a couple of days?
Are they making a week out ofit? I want to touch on that
in a second. I did seeone compromise that people were upset about the
(27:47):
official name of those I don't knowif grandstands are the right way to say
it. They call them Paddocks inF one, and Paddock was the last
name of the Sean good one.I never made that connection till just now.
There was a lot of people thatwere upset about that, and the
F one has been like, well, that's what they're called. I mean
sorry, right, Well, they'vemade a concession there. They will officially
be called the Pit Building to avoidthat word being used. Well, didn't
(28:11):
even occur to me. I hadn'tseen this conversation. But that makes sense
and good of them to recognize that. Let's just change the name. It's
not that hard. It's a ninefigure building that's nearly complete, and after
the race weekend it's going to turninto F one's new year round US headquarters.
Somebody's seen it. If you've beenby there. I mean yeah,
I mean cool that they built it. And again that's another thing. They
won't have to build again every year, all right, and the whole grounds
(28:34):
will be called the Grand Prix Plazas, So that's yeah. I thought that
was a good concession for the citybecause I know some smart we're upset about
that, and that is what it'scalled in every other city. This is
a unique situation. But back toyour thing about the airport, right,
this is where some inconvenience is goingto happen and some the heads up.
We'd mentioned it a little bit inlast week's episode. If you haven't listened,
(28:56):
you're not hitting that subscribe button, ring the bell, hit subscribe and
you won't miss an episode of thisquality content, full of fun that is
free two efforts this week. Butthey urge you to leave for the airport
four hours before your fly during Fone weekend. Yeah, I read that
anyone looking to fly out of LasVegas over Formula one weekend is asked to
(29:17):
get a move on because they areexpecting a huge influx. And they call
it the four to three to twoto one plan, which is kind of
a dumb name, but I getit four hours before your departure. Arrange
transportation at the airport or drop offof the rental car three hours before your
departure. Check your bags with yourairline two hours before your departure. Get
(29:37):
in line at the skit that's themost painful. One line at the security
checkpoint. Two hour wait, andthen one hour before your departure, be
at your gate ready to board, which I don't like doing that. Curious
too about because I have TSA,so I'm curious if those with tsare'll if
those we'll still have that advantage orwill they you know, Yeah, how
long is that pre check line rightbe? And will you have it open?
(29:57):
Because we've been to Harry Reid beforeit's like, what do you mean
the pre check lines closed? Soyeah, those are I mean, look,
you don't want to be caught therethinking you're going to walk right through
and then not be open and yougot to wait in line with the with
the commoners. Are you pre check? No? No, no, I'm
over with the commoners. I lookover at pre check. I'm like,
(30:18):
I mean, the line isn't thatmuch shorter than the one Sometimes sometimes it
is? Yeah, have you everseen it sneak through the airport. Yeah,
never in a way that makes melike, Okay, I can't.
So it's thirty minutes. I've neverhad to wait in that line for some
extraordinary amount of time. Yeah,I don't. Really. I missed a
flight from that and I get thereearly enough. Really, you get you
miss a flamber. Remember the daywe went golfing. Yes, I was
(30:42):
there an hour before long story,we don't need to go into that,
but we were there an hour beforeour flight and still missed it because of
that security line. Wow, becauseshe wasn't pre checked. So I've never
seen that line last longer than anhour. But all right, I mean,
you know, I guess it couldhappen, but I'm I mean,
when you're a pre check person, you used to get in there fifteen minutes
(31:03):
for your flight and walk them rightthrough. It can it can make a
difference, but just no expect longdelays. And I am curious to your
point, what that's gonna look like. Same pre check and the ride they're
talking about rideshairs too, man,Like you got to be a mess.
That's gonna be. It's gonna belike a jigsaw puzzle, dude, And
nobody's gonna know where the pieces go. Anybody leaving the house that weekend,
No way, dude. We actuallylooked at trying to fly out and go
to Pittsburgh that weekend, Cleveland thatweekend for the Pittsburgh game. But we're
(31:29):
not gonna go, Oh my gosh, no way. Yeah, I'm gonna
avoid flights aren't that crazy expensive? And they were available. Yeah, that's
interesting because I was looking at thatand I wasn't even putting two and two
together, but just to fight that, just to fight the mess at the
airport, maybe something to avoid.Yeah, I wonder why the flights are
cheaper. That seems like that wouldbe a weekend, everything would be at
a premium flights out. I'm talkingabout a flight out from here to Cleveland,
(31:52):
so I'm not sure how much they'regonna mark them up anyway, But
there were plenty of flights available andthey were on par with the prices you
usually see. So I didn't see. And this was a flight out on
whatever Thursday night or Friday and comingback on Monday. That's the first night.
It's like opening night of the fone, right, Yeah, Well,
it'll be interesting to see. We'llhave more on that next week.
Obviously there what complaints about it?An episode where we dedicated to just nothing
(32:17):
but being positive about it. Let'shave a dedicated we're positive about f one
episode. We'll get a guest doneit tell us why it's also great.
Look, I'm fine with that.I'm gonna withhold all of my judgment for
that, and next week we cando it because that's our week, right,
next week we'll have to be thatweek. We'll do it. And
I want to be positive. Iwant to be when I when I watched
(32:37):
the race, I want to feellike, oh, this was all worth
it, this was totally worth it. What a great thing. How long
is it going to take them totear all that stuff down? That's the
other parts. Six weeks, twomonths to put up all the fencing and
the stuff. It's a lot.And you're, yeah, how long is
the opperton? I got to takeit down in a day to be up
there till December one, I meanprobably later than that. And you know,
(33:00):
we got a super Bowl to startbuilding forward too, so it's a
quick turnaround. Not to mention,Christmas has got a wedg in there too
somewhere, so we will see.But yes, next week we'll do an
episode dedicated to f one that willshine a light on all the cool things
happening around our city and how it'sgoing to showcase our city in a positive
light. And then the week afterthat we can just completely complain about it
(33:21):
and talk about how much of aheadache it was. We will keep it
positive next week, though, Okay, promise, okay, all right,
deal deal, Las Vegas. Dropus a line and tell us what you
