Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kicking off for Ontario because he does everything is Bob
pen Miller. So the quarterback who will be playing wide
receiver at Ohio State is our kicker and punter tonight
as well. So you want to talk about a kid
that is an athlete, that's an athlete right there and Miller.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Selling popcorn at halftime.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Yeah, Miller sixty four, one hundred and ninety pounds. He
is a senior and we are just getting ready for kickoff.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
What a great crowd tonight for both schools.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Ontario, really nice crowd obviously, River Valley at home, very
nice crowd tonight.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
That kickoff deep into the end zone almost out of
the back of the end zone for a touchback.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
That's a heck of a lake. Yeah, very nice.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Brisk wind to their back, So Ontario when they get
on offense is really going to have to take advantage
of that. But River Valley is going into the wind,
so let's see how that affects their spread offense. So
a flag on the play and referee was I think
(01:11):
it was just a sideline warning, looks like on River Valley.
But one thing they have to understand, I think the
refs have to understand there's not a lot of sideline
on either side. So River Valley takes over first and
ten at the twenty yard line. After the Ohio State
University at Marion kickoff and or Ohio State, we're not
(01:35):
covering them today, River Valley set up spread offense, five wide,
three on the near side, two up top, Ebert alone
in the backfield, and if all starts looked like Ebert
was going to go on, two claps in the left
(01:57):
guard thought it was going to be on the first Yeah,
River Valley at home. The crowd is very educated on
being quiet. You could actually hear him clapping, and so
did the left guard. He jumped off a little bit
of a movement there. And now they're starting first and fifteen.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
So back at the fifteen yard line, Ebert gets the ball, looks,
throws to the outside complete at the twenty, so he
gets the.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Five yards back.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
That completion to Eli Snyder tackled Brady Rowe. It's a
junior five ten, one sixty defensive back, made a real
nice sideline tackle there. Second down and ten at the twenty,
again five wide, Ebert passes another out pattern complete, and
(02:47):
I believe that was to Snyder again. Yeah, one thing
about Ebert. He doesn't really looks effortless when he passes
the ball.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I watching him before the game.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
And he's very smooth, and he has a very nice
touch on the football, and he's really doing a nice
job sitting right there, and he's two for two so far.
Third down and eight, ball is at the twenty four
yard line. Ebert one step drop, completes it up ahead
for the first down. And was that Snyder again looks
(03:21):
last nighter. Yes, it is like we said earlier. Snyder
came into the game with.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Twenty three receptions, two hundred and thirty yards and one touchdown.
He gets about ten yards of reception that time. He
didn't need that much, but he did pick up the
first down.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Matthews hunt after a first down as Ontario jumps off sides,
looking like the outside linebacker was looking to come in.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah, he was either coming in on a blitzer, he
was anticipating a bubble screen out there, but he was
ready to pick something off that was thrown out there.
This corner over here, number twelve, Folks is really playing
press corner and then he's back looking off. He's trying
to take the quick pass out here to the right three.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Step drop, now cross mill complete up at midfield, now
down at the Ontario forty six yard line, and that
was complete to Eli axe line.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Real nice seam route by the tight end. They line
up very quickly and they're going to gas now.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Ebert flushed to the pocket, out of the pocket and
he gets about a yard. But that was another Matthews
hondaker first down. Nice pass to Ian axe line across
the middle, and axe line in most offenses would probably
be set up as a tight end.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, And they kind of lolled Ontario to sleep there,
throwing to the left side three times in a row,
and then they come right back to the right up
to see nobody on him.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Second down and seven and Ebert claps once now twice.
Ball is back, pulls it down, gets away from a
tackle and gets it back to the line of Scrimmas.
Actually lost about yard. He kind of pump faked he
was gonna throw it. Then he saw a defender in
(05:09):
his way. But good pressure there by Ontario.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Yeah, he had.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
He was looking at Jackson caught Ill running a seam
again six ' two one seventy five, uh senior running down,
but he wasn't open.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Number eight for uh Ontario.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Excuse me. Number six I believe was uncoverage mahone.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
So third down, make it nine, and now the referees
blow the whistle for an official time out. Don't know
what's going on. And something with his shoulder pad, yeah,
they're saying that. So they made him come out of
(05:50):
the game. Something's wrong.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I don't know why. Honor Jennings is in the game now.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
So they're gonna run a little wildcat here with UH
number eight quarterback Luke axe Line looks like her.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, So now two or three wide receivers down here,
one up top, axe Line in a wildcat.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Look for Jennings to get a handoff.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Third and nine, ax Line hands it off. Jenny's takes
off up the middle. He does get stacked up after
about three yards. So I don't know if I don't
know what it was that they caused.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Chase Ebert to come out. They shook his jersey, which
are really small. They could barely cover the shoulder pads
and it kind of it kind of.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Was up above the shoulder pad.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
So fourth down and six in shotgun is Ebert trying
to draw them off sides? Now it could be a
pooch kick. We saw them do that a lot last year.
And they're just going to let the play clock run down,
getting five wide, get the signal in five seconds left
(07:02):
on the playclock.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
They are running the.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Play back to past steps up through Ebert rolling to
his left. Now he throws it across his body. He
has a man open and it's knocked away. Good job
by the safety to not get interference. It was underthrown.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Landon Folks Junior six foot one sixty was right there.
It actually looked like eighteen Logan Creps. He also played
defense there too, because he actually had to knock it
away from the safety.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
You're right, well, that was an ill uh.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
That was a bad decision by the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
And Ebert threw it across his body, which is always
a bad decision if he had been able to step
into it. Creps had about five steps past. Yes, the safety,
so first and ten forour Ontario bod Pin Miller.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Got a lot of confidence in their defense. Here give
him the ball on the forty two yard line.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Miller with one running back next to him, He does
hands that is Batlenburg and he gets all the way
up to about the forty nine yard line. Actually it
is the River Valley forty nine. That's a nine yard
game on him. First down.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Matt Batlenburg came in as coming in the game with
forty six carries, four hundred and twenty eight yards and
seven touchdowns one for two. I mentioned before the game,
I think he's gonna get a lot of carries tonight.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
He runs like that, and they have the holes.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
For him second and one to receivers this side, one up,
top one back and back field. Batlenberg goes out like
he's going on a swing. Now Miller takes off on
his own across the fifty does get tackled back at
the lion of scrimmage, but they're giving him the forward
progress well, and it's a first Matthews Honderaker first down.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
I thought if he just kind of kept going forward,
but he tried to come out and make the big play.
He's still got the first down, but you could see
once he gets his motor run and he's got long
legs and he gets in the open field. But River
Valley's defense has got to make him pay forever.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Carry first and ten at the River Valley forty seven
yard line, five wide. Now Miller alone in the backfield.
Swing past the outside of Battlenburg. He gets it at
the fifty, now cuts back across the grain, gets a
big Hicks. Oh man, he got leveled there. Number six
Harrison Bradley.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Real nice shot there. That's what you have to do
on defense. Those guys are going to pick up yardage early.
You've got to make campaign put some shots on it
might wear them down, slow them up.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
We've got a little score here from my reporter over at.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
I guess they're at Highland Pleasants up seven to nothing,
seven fifty two to go in the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Second down and six at the River Valley forty three
yard line. Man in motion, that is Obliss. Now hands
off to James Mahon, who barrels his way up for
another Matthews Hondiaker first down up a head to the
(10:01):
thirty seven yard line.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Real nice carry there.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
And right now the offensive line for Ontario, and we
haven't really mentioned him, seventy six Crawford line, Mallins, Taylor, Hensley,
Maglet and Morris. These are the guys up front, really
pushing River Valley back. Right now, Eric.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Three wide on the left, one up top, quick pass
complete up to the thirty and then passed tackled at
the twenty five yard line. That passed complete to number
six John Mahon.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Yeah, seventeen. Colton Lang come up, try to make the tackle.
He's one fifty And it looks like Ontario's receivers are
a little bit stronger than the defensive backs right now.
A couple misstackles in the secondary. Scott, let's go down
to you for an injury update.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Yeah, there is a play right in between one of
the quick starts landon sourds for Ontario, one of their
star defender limping off the field. That's gonna see if
that what the fact that makes here when Rivale gets
the ball back.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
All right, that was Kanagie on a tackle and number
forty four leading tackler in the leg here Moac Wattle
forty five tackles coming in the season. Really nice tackle
from the behind the line of scrimmage. So the run
there was tackled for a four yard loss. That was
James Mahon with the run. Makes it second down in thirteen.
(11:32):
You need another big play River Valley. It's got to
come up strong here on this play.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Matlinberg on a sweep up to the thirty now cuts
it back twenty five and gets a nice run up
ahead to the twenty one yard line. And this is
what Ontario is doing. They're getting space and it's the
cutback that is killing River Valley. They're stopping the run initially,
but on the cutback it's just killing them.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Yeah, number six, excuse me, fifty was out leading on
that pulling out there six foot two sixty five and
boy really had a nice block on that play.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Third down and six at the River Valley twenty one
back to pass Miller. Now he gets flushed to his
right up to the twenty, gets around to the outside
and picks up the Matthews hondaakra first down, and he
made the defensive back out there just kind of stand still.
And that's what you got to attack when you're out there.
You can't just wait for the guy to come to you.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Well, one of the things you see when you watch
an elite runner is how fast they can cover five yards.
I'll tell you what, Eric, he came around that corner
and in no time he covered more than five.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
He was out there, so.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
First and goal, big big series for River Valley. On defense,
a handoff straight ahead and River Valley able to keep
him from getting maybe no more than a yard that
was to Vatlenburg, brings up second down.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Yeah, looks like Waddell was in on the play. Twenty
four Again Kanagi was in on the play. These guys
have really done a good job Canaggy. He's got an
interception this year, thirty tackles. He's probably the second leading
tackler on the team. Eli Snyder, excuse me, Eli Snyder
(13:20):
is thirty nine coming into this game.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Hand off to the outside. There goes Vatlerberg. Nobody touches him.
Touchdown and he ran past about five defenders. No excuse
there for the Vikings. They could have had him stop.
But he gets the touchdown. The Central High Farmers co
op touchdown. That was all offensive line.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
High or for Ontario on that series.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
They gave get some holes for the Backs to run
through and then the Backs finished the each and every run.
I'll tell you what, River Valley's defense has got to
tighten up right now.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
So vtler Berg with the first score of the night
field goal is up and that is good. So with
three fifty two left in the first period, Ontario on
the board first with a score of seven to nine.
We'll take a break. When we come back, we'll have
River Valley back on offense. You're listening to high school
football on fourteen ninety WMRN.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Back here, River Valley for the Matthews Honta akra Game
of the Night. River Valley down to Ontario seven to nothing.
Balls taken at the goal line, brought up to the
ten fifteen twenty and tackled at the twenty five yard line.
That was number seventeen Golden Lang, Colton Lang. So good
(15:40):
job by Lang to give River Valley a good starting
position on that first first play.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Yeah, he could have been really devastating for him, but
he came up through there and found a couple of
little holes and made his way up through there. They're
finding himself on about the twenty seven yard line. Uh,
they've got to really moved this football get it out
of there. They're one against the win, as we said,
but they are four wide this time with Jennings in
(16:07):
the backfield with Ebert.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
First and ten back to pass.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Ebert looks now rolls to his right, lobs it up
and that is knocked away. That was intended for Honor
Jennings a good job by the defender there. I believe
that was number twenty four.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
That was swords. Swords, so five two hundred pounds senior.
Ontario has got a really senior leaden team and juniors playing,
so you could really tell they have the swagger and
they've come out with a lot of confidence so far
in this first quarter. With three thirty eight to go,
you just tune it in Ontario hop seven to nothing
(16:47):
over the Vikings. So second down and ten Jennings in
the backfield alongside Ebert. Now he goes in motion to
the left. Ebert swings it out to Jennings and overthrows
him to actually looks like a lateral. I'm not sure
they're gonna call that.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Well, it went out of bounds anyways, but if it
was a lateral, I believe the ball would end up
where it went out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
I was just gonna say.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
So they did not call it a little well maybe
they did. Yeah, yeah, they did call that a lateral.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
So it is a loss. See I got a pretty
good view from up here, man.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
And that is a loss there of about five yards.
Now they're going to talk about it. I think it
definitely was a lateral and that's a It should have
been just a little pitch and catch, just a little
bit too much. And I just feel like the Vikings
(17:47):
already in this second series. They moved the ball pretty
well that first series and just stalled. They're almost pressing
a little bit too much right now.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Well, one of the things when you have a spread offense,
the elements have to be already perfect, and right now
they're trying to throw into the wind, and the ball
seemed to sail out Eber's hands on that particular play.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Third and seventeen. Ebert back to pass. Now he's going
down the middle of the field. He's got a man,
could it? Oh he dropped it. That was intended for
Logan Krebs. That was right in the bread basket. That's
what That's how you break a defense. Right there, you
go over top and boy, real nice pass. It had
a little wobble, but I'll tell you what, it was
very catchable. Young man's gonna want that one back. A
(18:29):
real fine pass by Ebert. That could have been the
big break to get him out of the hole.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Here.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Now they're forced to punt, and they've got a really
good punter in Pollock.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Hutson Pollock, who is a star for the soccer team,
handles all the kicking for River Valley. So he's punting
from his own seven and he gets that one off.
Good kick, goes over the returner's heads, now goes back
at the thirty five and down at the thirty three
(18:58):
yard line.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Well, that's a defensive weapon right there, when you have
a kicker like that, he's kicking into the wind and
bombing it out there. But you couldn't ask for a
better kick from that young man. River Valley right now
has got a stuff, a stiffen up and a big
series here. Three seventeen to go, they're down seven and
they could get a good get a stop here and
(19:20):
possibly take over in good field position.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Let's go down to Scott for an update. Scott.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Yeah, special teams Erbin Meer was big on special teams, right,
they're important, And we were out here before the game
and I'm telling you what. Hayden was punting the ball
sixty seventy yards and now, granted is with the win,
but there's also a video of him during a scrimmage
kicking his sixty yard field goal, and he's going to
get some attention from the next level. You can bet
(19:48):
on that, so he has quite a foot. My coach said,
it's a great weapon.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Yes it is Hudson Pollock. I've watched him as a
penalty flag. They had twelve men on the field and
one just ran off as they were coming up the
line of scrimmage. Yep, h Hudson Pollock. I've watched him
on the soccer field as well. He is impressive.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Looks like illegal substitution. Let's count one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, ten, eleven.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
No, there was eleven, so.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Somebody thought they weren't supposed to be on there, and
I think the coaches were yelling for him to run off.
So but it's still an illegal substitute. You can't run
off the field once you break the huddle, right, so.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
It's like trying to run the loans and then play
that's illegal where you used to have a guy stand
by the sideline and the defense doesn't seem so it's
like a river. Valley gets a break right off the
bat here first and fifteen from the Ontario twenty eight
yard line, Miller alone in the backfield.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
And quick slant as their.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Accepted by Snyder gets it at the thirty yard line.
That's huge River Valley as they take over first and
ten at the thirty. Yeah, Miller telegraphed out one. That's
a second break in two plays. They got the penalty
in the first one and then they picked it off
and they're sitting in great field position. You got to
make your own breaks in a game like that, and
(21:16):
right now River Valley just did.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Let's see if they can capitalize.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
That's I believe, the second interception of the year for
Eli Snyder, who's having a heck of a junior season.
First and ten ball is at the thirty yard line
for the Vikings, the Ontario thirty.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Ebert back to pass.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
He gets pressured, runs to the outside, now to the right,
he's looking downfield and just floats it out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
It looked like he ran out of bound.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
They're saying he ran out of bounds before he threw it,
so that's a loss on that. He should have thrown
it obviously before he ran out of bounds. Big break
for Ontario there. They lose some distance, you know, but
you when you're playing with a team like River Valley,
who can pick up up chunks of yard each at
a time, that may not affect him here. Three h
(22:04):
four left in the first period. River Valley down seven
to nothing. Second down in fifteen at their own thirty
five or at the Ontario thirty five yard line. Three
wide receivers near side too up top. Ebert looking to
the sideline, gets the signal five seconds left on the
play clock. Snap comes back, little swing past the outside,
(22:25):
complete to Snyder. They tried to get a block to
the outside, but number eighteen for Ontario. That was Brady
Rowe read that really well, only a gain of about one.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Right now, River Valley, except for that one pass, scene
pass and the one that was dropped, they're choosing to
kind of go out to the sides. I really think
that middle is really open, and they've got some guys
that can run in there and roam around and maybe
try that a little bit.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Well, they're playing man, so the safety is out here
guarding in man. So there's an opportunity to deep pass
down the sideline. Good adjustment and complete and a flag.
So I think there's going to be past interference. That's
down at the ten yard line and that was Axe.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Line it maybe on River Valley. Are they saying a
push off? Yeah, I thought he pushed him off. Oh wow,
I'll tell you what they needed.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
They haven't gone to park yet. That's the guy that's
the second leading receiver for them. He's got twenty two
catches and a touchdown fifty six yards a game, and
they might have him jammed up. But wow, that was
a heck of a catch. But to no avail. He
pushed off in bad break for River Valley here.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Well, and what I'm seeing here, Ontario's playing, man, they're
playing very aggressive. River Valley's able to get some separations,
so I don't think they're going to go away from it.
But man, you can't have those mistakes.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Well, what they're saying is they feel like they have
his good athletes on defense, defensive secondarya is River Valley
has on offense.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
So the ball is at the fifty yard line now
third down and a ton back to passes Ebert. He's
going deep again. He's got a man just over his shoulder.
Man that was almost there, intended for Logan Creps again.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Wide open down the sideline. The ball was pretty well thrown.
I don't know, the young man maybe just misjudged it,
but the ball, the winds kind of died down a
little bit and really well thrown and Paulake forced a
punt again at the River Valley two nineteen to go.
They're down seven, So back to receive for Ontario, number twelve,
(24:42):
landing Folds and not sure who the other one is.
That kick is up fair catch by Folds. He bobbled it,
but he gets it at the fifteen yard line. That's
where Ontario takes over first and ten with two thirteen
left in the first period, Ontario up seven to nothing.
Series for Ontario there they dodged one because they had
(25:03):
an opportunity. River Valley had an opportunity to get some
points on the board. I believe on that series call
went against him. On a push off, they would have
had the ball down around the ten yard line, but
to no avail and Ontario takes over on downs.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
So Ontario able to withstand the interception by Miller. But
going back to what coach Waddall had told us this week,
he wanted to force him to pass and make precision passes,
and that was what happened when they had to do
at that time. Miller hands it off on a sweep
and it goes back up the middle. I believe that
(25:41):
was sourds on the carry Ontario's offense for Gavin Miller,
excuse me, yes it was.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
And Ontario's offensive line has to go to work here.
I think coach is going to.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Probably settle down and try to keep the ball on
the ground a little bit and get his playmakers Jennings
and also Miller the ball second and keep it on
the ground second and three, hand off again to Miller
and he gets tackled right away, maybe a yard on
that one. Seems like every play they're pulling some type
(26:15):
of alignment. That was number fifty three out there, Dakoty
Ynker sophomore six one two seventy five.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
They have got an offensive line.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Eric third down and four Ontario at their own twenty
one yard line, no one in the backfield with Bodtin Miller,
five wide receivers. Miller takes off on his own and
he finds a seam, gets across twenty five thirty up
to the thirty four yard line. That's a Matthew Hontakra
(26:45):
first down for the Warriors.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
I think you keep the ball in his hands and
you keep running until they stop. You go to Jennings,
go to Miller, make River Valley Forest and then maybe
you can throw a little bit of a pass. But
right now, wow, their offensive line really is playing with
a lot of confidence. Under a minute left in the
first period, Warriors up seven to nzheing over River Valley.
(27:11):
Miller rolls to his left looking downfield. Now he cuts it.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Back and there's not many defenders to the other side,
out to the thirty five to forty, up the sideline,
across the fifty to the forty five forty and now
a penalty flag comes in. But a huge run there
by Miller and it's a Matthews Hondaker first down. If
the penalty doesn't knock it out.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Well, right now he's shown he is obviously the elite
player on the field and he just scrambled his way
to a big gain and.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
A personal foul against Ontario. Helmet to helmet hit.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Is that what it was? Yep? Oh, this is going
to go back.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
This is a big, big break for River Valley here
forcing Ontario. It's going to be let's see what the
down is. It's only going to be they only need
like three yards. Now, I want a game to have
it moved.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
Give a shout out to Tad DAWs, who is the
computer wizard here and he's trying to make sure everybody
has some Internet right now or figure out what the
problem is. Okay, it's gonna be first and Well it's
confusing because they're saying first and thirty, but on the
field it looks like first and four, swing past the outside,
(28:28):
complete and taken down at the forty yard line. Actually
make it the forty one, so that brings up second down.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Kanaggie and Waddle in on the tackle. Those guys are
a household name on defense over here, and they're in
on a lot of plays, whether it's inside or outside.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
So that's the end of the first period to hear
at River Valley High School, Ontario, with the leads seven
to nothing over River Valley. We'll take a break when
we come back. We'll be back with the start of
the second period. You're listening to the map. Thank youse
hunt acra a high school game of the week on

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Back here at River Valley High School for the start
of the second period, Eric Moseley alongside coach John Kuzio
Scott Cameron down the sideline, River Valley down seven to
nhing over Ontario. Ontario has the ball, second down and two.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Like we said, Ontario is elected to keep the ball
on the ground. Here they tried to throw a pass,
but Miller scrambled out of it. A nice run up
ahead for the Matthew Sonderaker first down to the forty
five yard line, and that.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
That was Vatleerberg.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
You know, coach from Ontario was talking before the game
in an interview and said that their goal was to
keep the ball out of axe line's hands. And with
eleven forty three to go just starting the second quarter,
I would think that the thing that they would really
love to do is just keep it. Have a methodical
march down the field and take a lot of time
(30:41):
off the clock.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Man in motion, hand off to Vattlenberg.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
He takes it up to the forty five to fifty
and he's broken free across the forty and down at
the thirty, runs over man and he's still going up
to the twenty four or twenty six yard line. And
that's a Matthew's onto actre first down and a big,
big run by vattler Berg.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Yeah, ky Dill came up, try to make a tackle
on him, but I'll tell you what, this kid's relentless
of get trying to get away. Uh Ontario. Right now,
Eric has shown that they are on a business trip.
They are a physical, physical team. There's no doubt about it.
And I think you're right coach. They they tried the
passing experiment for a minute and now they're decided, no,
(31:26):
we're just going to run the ball. Well, yeah, he
tried to throw one, but like we said, Miller got
out of it.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
But that was a run after all.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Miller fakes the handoff, takes it up the middle to
the twenty, out to the fifteen. Now he's carrying a
man and down at the eleven yard line. Another Matthew's
onto actor first down. I mean when they get to
the second level, it almost looks like men versus boys.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Well, i'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Uh Miller six four, he looks pretty thin, but I'll
tell you what, he's pretty stout, and he was carrying
some guys and he does not go down.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
So first down.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
At the River Valley twelve yard line, as.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
We got somebody coming out. That's number forty four, Wattle. Wattle.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
It's like Jennings is going in at linebacker in the middle.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
And now not sure.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
I'm just gonna return.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Not sure what's social officials time out? They just said
over the loudspeaker.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
So Wattle, I think just need a taped up or something.
He's got a scab. But I don't know why they're
taking time on the field.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Now.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Somebody else coming in for River Valley. That's number seventy
five Jackson Kloa.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Coming off is Green Ryan Green, senior defensive end. They're
gonna getting a little bit more size in there playing
defensive end here. Uh Kloa six four two forty five
and Green only six foot one eighty. So they feel
like they need to beef up against Ontario. Is really
(33:18):
good and strong offensive line.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
I still don't know what we're waiting on. Actually, so
the referee.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Just came to check with the sideline.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Maybe the time on the clock. Okay, it's ten thirty five.
They haven't changed it.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
I don't think the clock was running, but not sure.
Well they reset it to ten forty seven. Okay, okay, we.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
Got another update from my friend Colin boyd Over at Highland.
Pleasant and Highland tied up seven seven four, nine to go.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Weep to the outside.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
That's Vattleberg and he cuts it back in and gets
stacked up at the ten yard line. So gain of
about three on that one brings up second down.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
And while we're talking.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
About that, just to do an early preview next week,
River Valley will be at Pleasant and that should be
wail of a ballgame.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Second down to eight.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
I think we're also going to have Pleasant at Ralphie's
this week, aren't we?
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Yes? We will?
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Okay, five wide River Valley almost jumped off sides. They
were able to hold back. Now Miller looking to the sideline,
now back looking at the defense. Four seconds left. Miller
takes it to the left side. Now he cuts it out,
but he is bottled up there. Maybe a gain of one.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
All the offensive line has to do is stalemate the
defense and h. Miller just picks the hole and just
kind of weaves his way up through there. They're forced
with a second about a six yards thirty and six,
third and six excuse me? And uh will they pass?
Speaker 1 (35:10):
I think you you have to be opened anything. But
I think number one is they're going to look for
Miller to make something happen. I like Jennings, but I
think Batleerburg is a good option here.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Handoff goes to Batlerberg to the right side.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
He gets stacked up at the four, nope, five yard line,
and it'll be fourth down in about three.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Yeah, Batlenburg, I tell you what, five ten, one seventy five,
perfect size and the great quick feet coming up through there.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Just picked up a couple.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Now Ontario is forced with a fourth and about two
big defensive play here for the Vikings if they can
stop this.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
So this is where you have a two headed monster
with Battleberg and Miller. They're going to go with an
up back right behind the left guard. Miller takes it
himself and walks into the end zone. Touchdown Ontario. Wow,
that was easy going up through there. I'm thinking could
be something. And they didn't even take him to the outside.
(36:15):
They went right up through the middle through that big
offensive line.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
That's who's doing it for him right now.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
The offensive line is really pushing River Valley back.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
So at the eight twenty eight mark Miller with about
a six yard touchdown run makes to score thirteen to nothing,
and after the extra point it's fourteen to nothing. Ontario
over River Valley. We'll take a break and be back
(36:45):
with more high school football action. You're listening to the

Ihart Radio goes one on one with Adell to ask
how she'd feel about having an acting career.
Speaker 10 (37:25):
I've always said before that I would never act, and
I get a bit annoyed when people start sort of
dipping their toes in lots of different things, because I
feel like it waters down what they're doing. You know,
I still stand by that, but I think I would
do acting, but I would never do it while I
was doing my music or anything like that. I would
do it when I had nothing else to distract me
and stuff that does. I could give it my ow
and not worry about anything else.
Speaker 11 (37:46):
I keep listening to iHeartRadio for more of Adele and
all of your favorite artists. The Matthews Honda Acura High

Speaker 2 (37:58):
Thank here.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
River Valley High School, Ontario up fourteen to nothing over
River Valley and the Matthews hont Accurate Game of the Week.
Kickoff goes into the end zone and a touchback River
Valley will take over first and ten at the twenty
yard line. Want to throw it down to Scott for
an update. Scott, what do you have?
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Well, you know, I just feel like just looking around
the team, looking at the fans and stands, everyone's a
little bit shelf shocked. Hard to find any solution for Miller.
He's everything that the hype is said. It was going
to be great first steps, great cuts, and really the
offensive line is just helping him out. As coaches have
been saying, this is a really big possession. You think
(38:38):
about nothing really great has been fluid on offense, So
this is a really big possession right here.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Thanks Scott.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
First and ten now a false start on River Valley.
They can't seem to get out of their own way,
the vikings, between a couple penalties, drop balls. It just
had been really tough for them going. If they can
get settled down, I think they can move the ball
on offense well.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
In the series before Ontario got the ball man, that
was a big, big negative against River Valley when the
young man got called for shoving off and they could
have the ball in the ten yard and that was
a fourteen point swing on that we talked about the
big swing, and that's what happened.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
Past the outside, complete up ahead to the twenty.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Six yard line.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
That's lying over there, Number twelve, landing folds for Ontario
on the tackle.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Bolton laying with the reception, makes it second down and
quickly to the Lion scrimmage passed outside again. In that
time incomplete kind of telegraph there with a short pass
that was intended for Carter Park. So trying to get
the ball to Park. Yeah, that's the first, uh, first
pass they tried to go. And boy, I'll tell you what,
(39:54):
Folks was right there and knocked it away. Third down
and five River Valley at their own twenty five yard line.
One back in the backfield next to Ebert.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Bring a linebacker up on the inside of the defensive
end tackle.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Here he comes.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Ebert swings it out complete up ahead to the thirty
and that's Matthew sondiaker a first down to Honor Jennings.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yeah, number two, that's Mason VanderBurg senior.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Sitdn't come over and made the tackle, but to no
avail I was first down River Valley.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
They hurry up up to the line of scrimmage back
to pass. Now Ebert gets the ball knocked away. He
does get it back, but as he was running through,
he was holding that ball down low and a very
astute defender just knocked at it and knocked it away well.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
And they had an outside backer over there just stayed
at home, if you noticed. And they're spying Ebert. They're
not letting him get outside on any breakdowns on the defense.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
Second down and fifteen in the backfield with Ebert.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Tell you the secondary man. They're looking like they're just relaxed.
Now they're walking back.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Back to pass crossing power complete across the forty and
that's to Lang again for Matthews Honaker, first down to
the forty two yard line.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
No, River Valley has life right there.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Lang coming across and making two catches in this series
and picking.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Up a first down, and we got a player down.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Seven fifty nine to go. If you're just tuning in
or if you're in the area, stop in and see it.
This is going to be a heck of a second
half right now. With seven fifty nine to go, Ontario
up fourteen and nothing, very important series for River Valley.
They they can go down and score.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
So landing Folts on the field right now with an injury,
I think he took a little bit of a low hit,
so trying to catch his breath. But yeah, River Valley,
that's the last thing they need right now is for
this drive to be stopped for any reason, because they're
actually finding some consistency here. Let's go through some of
(42:01):
the scores in the area right now. Shelby up Overhearding
in the second period seven to nothing, Pleasant fourteen Highland
seven Gallion, twenty seven Clear Fork nothing. Winford and Senegese
tied at eight. Mohawk up twenty one to nothing over
Colonel Crawford, Jonathan Alder thirteen to nothing over North Union
Carry thirteen to nothing over Upper Sandusky, Ridgemont up seven
(42:25):
to nothing over Elgin. Carrington and Fredericktown tied at nothing
first and ten. River Valley has the ball on their
own forty two back to pass his Ebert. Now he
steps back, there's a penalty flag that's more than likely
a hold, and tries to get it down to Snyder
and just overthrows him. Another penalty flag comes out.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
I wonder if it's roughing, because he didn't really hit Roughing,
but he pushed him after he threw it. So that
could be very helpful for River Valley because we could
have a hold on River Valley and then a rough
in the path us are on Ontario.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Offsetting penalties there more than likely. So we'll see they're
having a conference at the thirty five yard line. I
love coming out to this campus here at River Valley,
just because it seems so active all the way around.
You got the kids over on the football practice field playing.
(43:23):
They have the mini bikes here with the cheerleaders.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Tonight.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
I know tomorrow morning there's gonna be a JV soccer
game in the field right behind us. It's just it's
a center of activity and it's just so much fun.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
I don't know of a night that is this nice.
I mean, I'm talking. The temperature is like perfect. The
win has subsided. You got two really good football teams
playing here. And like we said, you got the cheer
you got the student body down here really supporting the team.
You got you're gonna have the band, you got the cheerleaders,
(43:56):
you got the you know, the opposing team brought a
real nice crowd. Just a great night Friday night in
Marion County.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
And I know the theme for the student section on
the River Valley side is a patriotic theme. Now this
is the second time we've seen it. We saw it
a couple of weeks ago with another team. They've got
the work vests on the student section for Ontario.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
Oh yeah, yeah, they must be out there working on
the rest areas because there's still probably a few weeks
away getting that all wrapped up.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
So the penalties were on River Valley and they are
stacked back. It'll be first down and about thirty I think.
Now they're walking it back.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Okay, yeah, so it was offsetting. Why they're sure taking
their time?
Speaker 1 (44:52):
It just seems like a lot of confusion. Now they're
back again. Wow, get the calculator out here, folks. He's
go I start taking off his shoes and socks and
using his toes to count. Hey now, now, hey, I'm
one of those that would do that. I would use
my toes too. You got ten fingers and ten toes
(45:13):
for a reason. And it's not just a look at him.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Now he's talking to one of the defensive must be
defensive captain for our Ontario, trying to figure out maybe if.
Speaker 1 (45:23):
He knows when you check out, what the well, do
you have a rule book here? Just to figure out
how far back do you want to go? Just I'll
ask you that.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
Well and all in all, these referees are doing a
good job keeping the game moving. But this is a
situation where it's you have a couple of penalties. Looks
like she's saying personal foul. So looks like it's going
to be second down.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
Still a lot, not as bad as it forever.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
It looks like twenty about twenty probably about twenty five
thirty six on the scoreboard, but it was, Yeah, it
was thirty six before I'd say it's probably about twenty
six now.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:05):
So but again, second down in that long. With River
Valley's offense and what they run, they can pick up
big chunks, so it's not like they don't have plays
that can make this up. Ebert awaiting the snap, seven
thirty five left until halftime, back to pass. He's going
deep again, Snyder just out of his reach. The defender
was was right with him, and they were hand Joscelyn,
(46:28):
the defender though, once they got past the five yard mark, knew, okay,
keep my hands off of him. It was just good defense,
but just a little bit less on that pass. I
think Snyder's got a big reception.
Speaker 3 (46:39):
And Ontario is only bringing four guys up front. He
got Hensley Maglet and I think Miller the quarterback was
in there. He's playing outside backer. He was coming in
there and didn't see to hear the number fifty. That's
that was Hensley, oh in sixty one, So that was
(47:02):
Skelton was in there on the putting pressure on the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
Third and twenty seven, man in motion is axe line
back to pass now back Ebert just throws it out
of bounds as he is caught from the back side.
And we know again talking to coach Waddle this week,
this is a defense that likes the blitz. That was
the perfect opportunity they got to Ebert and Eberts he's
(47:27):
kind of limping coming off the field.
Speaker 3 (47:29):
You want to hear the bad news about the guy
that put the pressure on the quarterback Number thirteen, Zan
Kerr a five ten, one to seventy freshman. Wow, that'll
wake you up in the morning. I'll tell you what
I will. So Pollock back to punt, a little bit
of a high snap. He does get it, gets off
a good punt that goes back caught at the thirty
(47:53):
five up ahead to the forty forty five and that
was returned by Landing Folds and that's where Ontario take
over for ten. Ontario is sitting in a great position
right now, up fourteen enough and with seven to twelve
to go, and their style of offense, run first pass
when they have to is really working for him tonight.
(48:14):
Field conditions are terrific. No wind for either team's going
to affect them. And right now their offensive line, I
think they have an advantage because they're controlling the football
game with their offensive line.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
Paul is at the Ontario forty five yard line. That's
the give and take with running a spread is that
you can pick up big chunks of yards. But you
also if you have a short drive, it's really short.
You give the other team a lot of time. Miller
keeps himself up, head to the fifty down, the forty five,
thirty twenty and he's gone touchdown bot Pin Miller. That
(48:50):
is a fifty five yard touchdown run in Ontario is
pouring it on now twenty to nothing and.
Speaker 3 (48:56):
These people are at this stadium tonight are getting a
special treatten this kid run down. I'll tell you what,
Like we said earlier, how fast the kid is is
how much he can run five yards the first five
yards and then he just turned it on, took it
to the house and there was nobody could catch him.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
So at the six fifty nine mark, Miller makes it
twenty to nothing for Ontario. Extra point is up and
that is good. So with six fifty nine left until halftime.
Ontario expands their lead twenty one to nothing over River Valley.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
We'll take a break.

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Back here at River Valley on the Ohio State at
Marion kickoff and they blew that dead and I don't
think the return man was even down, but they blew
it dead. I'm not sure what happened for River Valley
takes over first and ten coach, we were talking off air,
explain to me and explain to the audience a little bit.
(51:08):
Ebert is somebody that likes to run a little bit,
but they've done a good job. Ontario's done a good
job of keeping him contained. How have they done that?
Speaker 3 (51:15):
Which just like Miller has had some plays offensively breakdown,
but he was able to make something out of nothing.
That River Valley wants Ebert to do the same thing.
But Ontario is playing very disciplined football defensively, and they're
keeping guys the spy on him. They're only rushing four
guys and the guys are staying at home and keeping
an eye on Ebert.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
So I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (51:35):
They have a perfect defensive game plan against River Valley tonight.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
Ebert back to pass at the ten yard line, goes
across the mill, just out of the reach of the
intended receiver number one, Jackson Caddill, and it brings up
second down.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
And I'll tell you what the reason that it was
overthrown is number sixty two for Ontario. Trenton magleet a
junior six foot two thirty five, nice size for a
defensive line and putting pressure on Ebert.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
Six fifty two until halftime. Ebert back to pass. Now
he takes off, He's got wide open. Now he throws
it complete up ahead at the thirty seven yard line.
Now the refs says that he was going out of bounds.
That was luke Axe line.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (52:19):
I thought he could have slowed down, but for some
reason he just kept going. And the referee was really
right on the spot. He had no hesitation in his
call that he was out of bounds.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
So the Vikings just seemed to be a little bit
out of sinc altogether, it's.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
The little things right now, third down.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
And ten, Vikings looking to get something going. Ebert waiting
to snap back to pass, drops back to the ten.
Now he scrambles three men on him. He just heaves
it and adjusting and caught. Great job there by Luke
axe Line and gets it at the forty yard line.
(53:00):
Huge first down for the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
Yeah, that was a really nice comeback play for axe
Line there, and looks like somebody's going to get a penalty.
It could be, uh.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
So a flag.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
But the referee was standing on the River Valley sideline
and and what I thought was weird about that he
was literally on the sideline next to the coaches, not
on the field.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
He was on the sideline.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
Must have been one of the coaches said something as
they were trying to run down the field.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
Sober Ebert's trying to get the fans to continue booing,
and the referee was walking past him and stopped him,
and I think he basically she basically said, hey, you
need to knock that off, and Ebert just kept him going.
Speaker 2 (53:58):
But you know what, I like the well, I thought that.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
It was kind of close there that the offensive guy
could have got for he kind of held the defensive guy.
But I don't know what the why they would be
upset because they had a great, big, great play. Now
they're going to get penalized. Yeah, Scott did a first
down on the forty. We're going to see what happens here.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Scott, Do you have any idea what was going on
down there?
Speaker 12 (54:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (54:27):
Coach Waddle was he was really hot since the kickoff
there because the referees blew it dead. They thought he
took a knee or called a fair catch and that
didn't happen. So Coach Wattle was really kind of laying
into him from there. And I'm telling you, guys, from
that point it really seemed like he was just he's
kind of just been having in the ear of the
official and I think he was appreciating very much, but
(54:51):
that's it's not helping the team right now. But like
you guys, I appreciate you. He's trying to fight.
Speaker 2 (54:55):
For his team. Maybe need Oh he's frustrated. He's very frustrated.
Speaker 3 (55:00):
Because you know, they get they can get something here
with twenty they're down twenty one with six thirty six
to go. They know if they can get something in
this series and go to half only down two scores,
they might have an.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
Opportunity to come back on in this game.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
So first and ten, ball has moved back to the
river valley forty five yard line back to passes. Ebert
steps into across the middle and just under thrown. He
just didn't get into that one second down.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
These four defensive linemen are really relentless putting pressure. And
that time number five and that's John Mahone Junior sixty three,
one ninety five. I'll tell you some of these guys
are big, but they're wiry and they can move just
all over the field. And Ontario is inserting different guys,
(55:49):
so their motors are running at full speed all the time.
That's something you really want to do as a defensive coordinator.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
Second down and ten and in motion is ax line
going from left to right. Now he sets up on
the right side for wide receivers. Over there, passes out there,
flag though, and dropped right into Caddill's hands. And he
just dropped it. Now two penalty flags in the backfield.
Speaker 2 (56:16):
Yeah, I think it might be a hold.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
But I'll tell you these defensive linemen are We've used
the word relentless their motors were running and they are
going after Ebert and they were keeping a.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
Guy back or two to sit down.
Speaker 3 (56:31):
They have a lot of confidence in their secondary back here.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
They're athletes, and they're.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
Long and and wiring, and they can run.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
But that's a personal foul face mask on the defense,
and I think it was a defensive lineman that was
grabbing the face mask of a River Valley lineman. That
makes it an automatic Matthew Hontagra first down all the
way to the Ontario forty yard line.
Speaker 3 (56:55):
Very big break for the Vikings on that, and they've
got a great opportunity willing the four yard line down
twenty one to nothing, six twenty eight to go in
the second quarter.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
So River Valley here's what they have to be aware of. Though.
You don't want to score too quick.
Speaker 1 (57:11):
I mean they they definitely want to score, there's no
doubt about it. And you don't want to wait too
long as now there appears to be a time out.
But the thing with this offense, you can take up
big chunks of yards and you give Ontario time to
be able to score before halftime, and they get the
ball first in the second half. They just have to
be careful with the clock management here.
Speaker 3 (57:32):
Well, I think in their case right now, being down
twenty one to nothing, their best thing would be to score,
maybe kick it deep.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
Ontario is gonna have the ball in their face, but
they can't.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
I don't think they can worry about really how fast
they score. I think they want to score, get the
ball back, and maybe score again. So they want to
take advantage of their passing attack and maybe they're going
to get in rhythm here and get down there and
get one in the end zone.
Speaker 2 (57:58):
Well, I like what they're doing.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
I mean, and it's been a little disjointed on this series,
but overall they've had some good plays that they've run here,
they've taken shots, and I like the shots they've taken too.
They it's not like he the incompletions are very far off,
so you kind of feel like at one point these
are going to start connecting.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
And they've had some drop balls too, Eric, and they
had some opportunities and I tell you, penalties obviously it'll
kill you against a really good team in Ontario.
Speaker 1 (58:25):
Is first and ten at the Ontario forty yard line,
Ebert alone in the backfield, five wide man in motion
that Snyder now they shovel past it him up at
the forty to the thirty five, cuts it to the
outside thirty and has tackled at the twenty seven yard line.
That's another Matthews Honta aker first down for the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (58:41):
And real nice block out there by Jackson Coddale with
Snyder bouncing off to the outside, picking up a first
down for the Vikings with six twenty eight at the
going a quarter.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
Quickly up to the line of scrimmage back to pass
Ebert to the end zone and just too far our reach.
That was intended for number seventeen Colton Landon, Folks, He's
getting a lot of action over there at corner. He's
playing press coverage at that time. He was right right
on defense there. He's a junior six foot one sixty,
(59:11):
but man, these guys can run right with the receivers.
Second and ten, ball is at the twenty eight yard
line of Ontario.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
Ebert now flushed, rolls to his left.
Speaker 1 (59:22):
He's back towards the forty and he gets hit late
and right in front of the.
Speaker 2 (59:29):
Referee, and they didn't throw a flag.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
O Bliss from Ontario put a shot on him. Six
foot one ninety five and nothing was called. Coaches down
here are really uh not too happy.
Speaker 1 (59:44):
I mean, you gotta protect the quarterbacks and sometimes those
are close calls, but that one was a late hit,
There's no doubt about it. So third and ten of
ball the twenty eight yard line, I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Not sure Scott wants to talk to coach Waddle.
Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
Well, that's his call's looking up. He's shaking his head
back to pass now flush from the pocket. But there's
the spy. That's number thirteen. So number thirteen's that freshman
Zane Curry, and he was the spy on that one.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
See, they're bringing these guys on defensive line that are
fresh and he has has quarterback pressures, plus.
Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
He can run.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
He is really out there to try to keep Ebert
in check.
Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
So Scott, what are you going to do if coach
just comes up and walks up to you ready to talk.
Speaker 4 (01:00:45):
Well, I've never interviewed Bobby Knight, but I feel like
it might be pretty similar.
Speaker 12 (01:00:48):
So I'm just ask him if he wants to talk
or not. He says no, I completely understand.
Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
There we go fourth down and twelve to the end zone.
We got a man open a touchdown. What a great
catch there by Luke axe Line for the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
That's as good as a high school catch as you'll
ever see by Luke axe Line right there. The defensive
man was in front of him all the way. Was
it even going for the football and Max Line reached
over his back and brought it in.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Great throw, great catch vikings are on the board.
Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
Well, let's face it, coach, you either you throw that
up and you either get the touchdown or you get
the pass interference.
Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
That's why you do that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
But a great pitch and catch from Ebert to axe
Line what ended up being about a forty three yard
touchdown reception and Pollock with the kick up and good.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
So River Valley has found life.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
With five to eleven left until halftime, Ontario is still
with the lead twenty one to sit or oh, I
guess that was right. Yeah, I just want to say,
I think you just put the point up there, twenty
one to seven. You're listening to high school football in
fourteen ninety Wmrill.

The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
We'll swip down the field and it goes out of
bounds at the ten yard line. So that's a penalty,
just as River Valley getting some momentum. They didn't need
that right there. But River Valley able to get back
into this game twenty one to seven. Big series for
River Valley defense.
Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
Right now. They can get something here. Get the ball back.
Speaker 3 (01:03:28):
They can score very quickly and we will have ourselves
a dogfight here. But right now, the defensive line linebackers
have got to come up big and keep those guys
in check. I do not think Ontario will put the
ball in the air too much in this series. If
they don't have to. They're gonna keep the ball on
Miller's hands. They're gonna keep the ball in they're running
(01:03:50):
back Vanderbergh's hands and just try to pick the.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
River Valley defensive part Valley out there on defense. The
ball is at the Ontario thirty five yard line first
and ten, and now everybody bunched in looks like a
big overload on the left side. You got a bunch
(01:04:20):
formation over there with receivers and hand off to the
left side, and that's to number twenty two Miller, and
he gets ahead for about four following the convoy second down.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
What do you do?
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
You have like a little diamond bunch formation over there,
and they're just they actually had them overloaded. They're just
trying to pin River Valley's defense in and get what
they can that time. They got a nice three yard
gain and very good call. Start out this series with
four forty three to go in the clock running.
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
And that's the thing with Ontario. They're running multiple formations here.
Second down, hand off, straight ahead, just across the line
of scrimmage. Maybe a gain of one and that's Miller
again brings up third down and five.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Real nice defense.
Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
River Valley number six, Harrison Bradley at six three two
ten junior in on the tackle there, fifty two Diego
Sanchez Senior, five to seven to two hundred defensive line.
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
Those guys were in on that tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
They're down in five and off size is River Valley.
They drew them off side. Two guys jumped across and
that makes it a Matthews Honaker a first down.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
Anytime you have less than five yards the defensive line
is We've seen that how many times this year a lot,
not just with in this game, but in some of
the other games. It's just a basic thing. When you're
less than five yards, you try to draw the defense
off side. So you've got to know that. All you
do is look into the football, go when the balls moved.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
Four minutes until halftime, Ontario with the lead twenty one
to seven, first and ten at the Ontario forty five
yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
Two men in motion at once. There we go.
Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
They got it back to passes Miller doesn't matter. Yeah,
that should have been dead ball.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
So they let the play continue.
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
But it's definitely a penalty illegal legal shift on Ontario.
So that's a I believe a ten yard penalty.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
Big big defensive break for the Vikings. Here.
Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
Three forty three to go. You got plenty of time.
They can get a stop here. It's gonna be but
it's first down.
Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
Yeah, they keep the It's first and fifteen. So they
took the penalty, but they keep the down. So that's
the bad thing.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
So they're gonna keep the ball in Miller's hands. He's
got an empty backfield.
Speaker 1 (01:06:52):
There, five wide, three on the near side, two up top.
He swings it out complete up to the forty and
tackled at the forty three yard line. That completion was
to number three bo Hefner. Hey, I'm impressed with Ontario.
They're trying to throw the ball, try to get more points.
(01:07:14):
They could just run the ball, keep the clock moving
with that time the receiver got tackled in bounds and
forcing the clock to keep running and possibly forcing River
Valley to call a time out here if they want
to try to get the ball back. Three ten left
until halftime. Ontario is just taking their time. Twelve seconds
(01:07:35):
left on the play clock. Miller hands it off and
out to the outside, but tackle behind the line of
scrimmage is Vatlenburg and that brings up a big third down.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
That was work in forty four.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
That was Wattle in on the tackle, their big defensive
play for the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
Clock is running to forty until halftime. River Valley still
has three timeouts. Ontario is just going to take their
time here. What'll be interesting here? You want to keep
this clock running. Will they actually maybe take a chance
on a pass? I wouldn't think they would, but you
never know. There they go back to pass is Miller,
(01:08:19):
he's looking looking, and now he gets swept out and
there's contact, but they're not going to throw the flag.
I think it was uncatchable. And now Eli Snyder, there's
the flag. Eli Snyder and another player ran into each
other and I think they're saying Snyder shoved him.
Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
Well, that was definitely.
Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
It was an uncatchable ball, but it was Yeah, it
would have been interference if it would have been.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
But right now, oh my god, they didn't see the play.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
So they're saying, Eli Snyder was it was a an
unsportsmanlike After the play happened, he and another player from Ontario,
the intended receiver, knocked into each other. They're saying Snyder
just pushed him. Scott, I want to hear what you
have to say, saying, I.
Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
Want to tell him from my experience, don't talk to
the coach.
Speaker 4 (01:09:19):
Right Coton Lang a couple of plays ago for drawing
and saying something so quite frankly, the officials are really
starting to look for retaliation and actions words and they
just they interpreted Eli's a little shove there that's nefarious.
Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
One may go one on one coverage out here on
Lang and uh, they could possibly go on top. They're
in a field position that if they don't get a
first down after this, but they've got first down here
with two sixteen to go, I look for him to
do about just about anything.
Speaker 1 (01:09:56):
So a time out from Ontario, Scott, I want to
go back to you, because we didn't catch all of
what you said at the beginning.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
But what was it?
Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
Was it a shove or was it a supposed shove
that the referee thought he saw there?
Speaker 4 (01:10:09):
So again I don't know if you heard me, but
a few plays to go, Colton Laying was getting ripped
into by one of the officials and about something that
you know, saying don't say that, don't say that, don't
talk to the players. So in a way, the officials
were kind of really looking and monitoring what was being said,
what was being done, kind of keeping things under a microscope.
Speaker 12 (01:10:30):
And they saw Eli Snyder and.
Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
They just interpreted it as nefarious and foulful, and so
they called it on and that really kind of bit him.
So it wasn't really so much Elia, there's just a microscope.
Speaker 12 (01:10:42):
It seems like I'm looking on players' reactions.
Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
Thanks Scott, and that's It's definitely the emotions are high.
I also feel like the referees in this first half
at times have kind of lost control of this, so
I know they're trying to get this back under control.
First and ten ball at the river forty five, Miller
runs to the left. He spins up ahead to the
forty and is tackled at the thirty eight yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:11:08):
He just hitting spun and picked up about seven or
eight yards pretty much on his own. Eric Kid's really
elusive going through there. He's not afraid to take a hit,
and uh, looks like clock's should be continuing to run
here and now it's one fifty eight to go.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Tyson Wattle comes back out of the game again. It up.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
Well, see he got thirty eight seconds on the field clock,
and I'm thinking they shouldn't be in any hurry here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
No, I mean I think they can take their time.
Second down and four hand off to Batlenburg. He gets
across the thirty five and close to a first down
just about a yard short. Brings up third down. Yeah,
one thirty six to go.
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
They get just keeping the ball on the ground at
second excuse me, third and one. I look for him
to go up top, now you think with yeah, and
then they depend on force down.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
They can just go for it and go for it. Yeah,
I look for him to go up top.
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
They got one on one coverage over here, and they
run a lot of the po he's staying in the middle.
They run a lot of RPOs, so this could be
that a take off there by Miller and he's stacked up,
but he leans forward. Four guys on him and he
still gets the Matthews Hondaker first down at the thirty
one yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:12:26):
Kay, the clock stops with one o six to go
until they move the change. They need to be ready
to go. This is a perfect drive here if they
could score with no time on the clock. But I
would be concerned if I was Ontario that they need
to make sure they get things lined up here.
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
Clock's running with fifty two.
Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
Seconds first and ten back to pass is Miller now
he's flushed out, gets ahead, a flag comes down, Miller
gets the outside thirty five or twenty five up to
the twenty one. But I think it's going to be
a hold call on Ontario, sure is so that's going
to move him back thirty eight seconds be first in twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:13:10):
I think they needed to kind of keep moving a
little bit quicker than what they were when the clock
was running when there was around two and a half
minutes to go, and not worry so much about how
much time River Valley's going to have. They go up
twenty eight to seven at halftime and that's big.
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
So first and twenty back at the forty Miller looking
to go deep. Now he's flushed back to the fifty,
He's still looking and ends up throwing it out of
bounds with twenty three seconds left.
Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Good defense there by the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
Well, just to give you a little bit of a
preview here doing my homework, kill Gore Cooper Kilgore is
eleven for thirteen on extra points and he's won for
three in the field goals, and he does have a
twenty seven yard field goal, so he does have some range.
But they're gonna have to get it's about the fifteen.
It's about the fifteen and for him to have an opportunity.
(01:14:08):
But there's only twenty two seconds to go.
Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
But I think Ontario is playing with so much confidence
right now. They feel like they can pick up something here.
Man in motion. Now back to passes Miller, good protection,
he goes down the middle of the field. He's got
a man open in touchdown Ontario.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Wow, that is a back breaker right there before the
half with twelve seconds to go. Atario goes up twenty
seven to seven. How did he get behind him?
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Landing faults with the touchdown reception about a forty five
yard Now a flag on the sideline of the opposite sideline.
This is getting crazy. So it's a sideline warning. Oh,
they all came out on the field, but man, this
is becoming about the referees.
Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Yeah, so with twelve point three seconds left, or excuse me,
Ontario answers River Valley and goes up twenty seven to seven.
Extra point is no good, So we'll keep it right here.
(01:15:19):
And yeah, coach, it's interesting. You know, as I thought
the River Valley defense was playing pretty well.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Yes, they were all.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
Of a sudden to get behind the defenders, but I
also think they were still happy, you know, trying to
be ready for that run. They were playing their safeties
up a little tighter.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
Well, and to kind of not to help out with
that evaluation of the defensive secondary. Miller was what made
that happen. Yeah, his first initial pass was not there.
He rolled back to his left, and how he was
able to set up and launch it back towards the
middle of the field, and the young man catching the
football just ran his tail off to get over under
(01:16:03):
it and he caught it behind the secondary. So they
had all kinds of time there and that was basically
on Miller's legs. And boy, that's got to take the
wind out of River Valley sales right now going into
half twelve point three seconds. You couldn't have drawn up
clock management better than that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
So folds with a forty four yard touchdown reception from
bod Pin Miller and Ontario answers, and a lot of
that can go right back to that penalty that was
called against River Valley that I still don't know what
that penalty was really called on, because it was not
(01:16:43):
That was not a penalty on Eli Snyder for roughing
or being a personal foul. I don't care what anybody says,
but that gave Ontario new life and they took advantage
of it. Ball goes into the end zone on the kickoff,
so River Valley will have the ball for ten from
their own twenty. The thing that River Valley can't do
(01:17:06):
is his panic right now, throw it out into the flat.
Something happened, but I think Ontario's defensive secondary, they're back
about twenty yards. Safety is anyway back to pass and
oh man, the receiver was not even looking for the
(01:17:26):
ball that was almost intercepted and brings up second down.
Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
Yeah, that was Codelle running out in the scene there
and Ebert saw him, but he didn't see Ebert and
almost intercepted.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Yeah, I was thrown just behind him. That's what I
was talking about. They can't do that. They can't do
that in this situation.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
I know, I know they're feeling it right now and
that I really hurt right there in that last series
by giving up a touchdown. But they can't. They can't
pan it, can give up anything else there.
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
It is eb to the outside, complete taxe line, good
reception up ahead to the thirty two yard line. That's
Matthew Sonta after first down with two seconds left until halftime.
Very very lucky because Miller was coming right up and
he just missed that and all I saw was green
and he did too. Green day, green grass in front
(01:18:19):
of him, and he would have had a pick.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
Six deep safety.
Speaker 1 (01:18:23):
So going deep and that's going to be intercepted at
the thirty and tackled right there. And that's how we
end the first half. River Valley started to make it
a bit of a battle there, but Ontario just too much.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
In this first half.
Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
Ontario is up twenty seven to seven over River Valley.
Looks like Coach Waddle is going to talk with Scott,
so we'll go ahead and throw it down to Scott.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
Here you go, Coach.
Speaker 4 (01:18:57):
Seemed like a little bit of the wheel spinning, some misques.
Unfortunate Coles Uh, there in the first half. What we're
thinking here going on changing things offensively, I.
Speaker 14 (01:19:07):
Mean, we're going to keep doing what we do.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
Throw the ball. We just got to catch the ball.
Speaker 14 (01:19:11):
We had a couple opportunities there early that we just
didn't come down with. And then you know, we just
didn't move the ball enough on offense to keep keep
drives alive. And I gave up a couple of big
plays on defense there. So we just got to go
into halftime in re group.
Speaker 4 (01:19:27):
Yeah, and I know you kind of mentioned when I
talked to you the Miller and the offensive line. Uh,
they really kind of seemed to be moving, humming in
rhythm right now. Made some great plays defensively, but just
kind of he's he's just an athlete making plays. Any
changes or what you might think with the second half
to contain him, Oh, we just.
Speaker 14 (01:19:46):
Got to, you know, try to keep him in the pocket,
like we talked about, we got to do a better
drive of controlling their the line and uh, try to
get some stops.
Speaker 2 (01:19:56):
Great, Thanks coach, All right, thanks Scott.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
And you know we are seeing up close just what
kind of player Bob Penn Miller is, and he is
definitely a special pit player, isn't he?
Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Coach Cruzio, Well, I.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
Said when he ran that touchdown, if you were here tonight,
you got to see an elite player. And that's why
he's probably going to go to a hot state. And
I guess he's one as a receiver. So and he
has shown me that he can take a hit. River
Valley's tet off on him a few times. He's playing defense.
(01:20:32):
He reacts to the football, and yeah, he is a
special player.
Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
All right, Well, we'll take a break.
Speaker 1 (01:20:37):
It's halftime here at River Valley, and when we come back,
we will over first half scoring. We'll talk about some
of the other scores in the area and question for
coach at halftime. But again here at River Valley, River Valley, Downtown, Ontario,
twenty seven to seven on the Matthews Honda Akra.

Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
Back here at River Valley High School halftime. River Valley
down twenty seven to seven to Ontario. I'm Eric Mosley.
Let's go through the first half, scoring the three fifty
two mark. In the first quarter, Ontario struck first Battleerburg
a nine yard touchdown run a point after was good.
(01:26:33):
Ontario took the lead seven to nothing over River Valley.
Then in the second quarter at the eight twenty eight mark,
Bodpinn Miller with a six yard touchdown run. The pat
was good and Ontario extended its lead fourteen to nothing
over River Valley. Then, only a couple minutes later for Ontario,
(01:26:55):
Bob ben Miller had a fifty five yard touchdown run
point after was good and that made the score Ontario
twenty one, River Valley nothing. Look like it was just
going to be a blowout, but River Valley able to
put a good drive together and then Axe Line had
(01:27:17):
a forty three yard touchdown reception from Chase Ebert and
the point after was good, so River Valley found some life.
Ontario was up twenty one to seven, but then with
twelve point three seconds left, Ontario was able to score
on a forty four yard touchdown reception by Landing Folds
(01:27:41):
on a throw from Bob Penn Miller. Point after was
no good, and that's where we arrive at our halftime
score of Ontario twenty seven, River Valley seven. And it
sounds like a very one sided game, but there's been
a lot of moments in this game where it felt
like River Valley was just on the verge of getting
(01:28:02):
back into this game. So it'll be interesting to see
here in the second half if they can come back
and start getting some stops on defense and some sustained
drives on offense. Let's look at some of the other
scores that are in the area right now at halftime.
(01:28:23):
Mohawk is up over Colonel Crawford twenty eight to seven.
Shall be up fourteen to nothing overhearting It at the half,
carry thirty three of Persandusky nothing. Jonathan Alder up twenty
eight to nothing over North Union in third Pleasant at
the half up over Highland twenty eight to seven. Sank
(01:28:44):
East has the lead on Winford twenty two to eight
in the third quarter at halftime. In clear Fort, Gallion
is up twenty seven to two seven. Mount Gilli had
eight Danville six at the half. North Moore is up
over Center twenty one to nineteen at halftime. Richemont fourteen,
Elgin three in the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:29:08):
And.
Speaker 1 (01:29:11):
Buckeye Central up over Busyrus twenty to sixteen.
Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
So we'll go ahead and take another break.
Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
When we come back, we'll talk with a coach about
the first half and have our question for coach again.

Back here at River Valley halftime, watching the River Valley
Marching Band do the year there. I guess you would
call it the script r V, which is always really cool.
Eric Mosley alongside coach John Kuzio and so coach the
question that I have for you this week because we're
(01:31:02):
in a match up here that is featuring two of
the better quarterbacks in the MOAC, Bob Penn Miller and
Chase Evers. So it got me to thinking, You've spent
a lot of years coaching in Marion County, You've done
a lot of broadcasting. Now I wanted to get your
(01:31:24):
thoughts on who are the best quarterbacks that you've seen
play in Marion County over the years. You know, not
just one, but just some of them that that maybe
stood out to you.
Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
Well.
Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
I had some pretty good ones. Court Hamilton, Chuck Rudd,
I know, Buckeye Valley, I know he wasn't in Marion County,
but Scott Jefferies and then he came up to Pleasant
at Pleasant Yeah, Scott Jefferies, Uh wow, feel from Ridgdale.
(01:31:54):
Obviously Ebert's up on the list. Shoot, I could go
about the Harris brothers, did you. Oh yeah, Trevor obviously Trevor, Yeah,
and Cody Harris at Pleasant Uh, trying to think of
some of the other guys, well, at Harding, Brady Wink
(01:32:16):
really enjoyed watching him.
Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
A few years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:32:19):
A lot of leadership there and really had a fine,
fine career there at Harding.
Speaker 2 (01:32:25):
Yeah, there was a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:32:25):
Of them, you know, and uh, but it takes, like
we say, we takes a takes a village to defend
a guy like that.
Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
Well, and and even here at River Valley, Kayden Shandon
was one of the more I mean, the things he
could do running and passing were just unbelievable. Yes, Scott
Ferrison from getting way back in the eighties, Well, no,
Farrison was ninety six. Yeah, that was that that uh
that state playoff or a state championship team.
Speaker 3 (01:32:56):
Yeah, so uh yeah, of course Harris was on a
state championship team at Pleasant.
Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
Just some uh, really some good players have played played
quarterback in Marion County.
Speaker 1 (01:33:10):
Was there a school when you when you started coaching
here in Marion County? And of course that was back
when the county schools were in the NCC right, was
there a school that seemed to really develop quarterbacks back
then over the years more so than any other school. Well,
it just depends on what style of offense you ran.
(01:33:31):
You know, I took we took a kid that was
a sophomore and Chuck Rudd and his first year quarterback,
we went ten and oh because we ran the option,
he was able to pick it up very well.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
And uh, you know, and uh Court.
Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
Hamilton obviously Andy Gass was a quarterback his his senior
year from receiver. As far as developing, I think obviously
Pleasant did a nice job with their quarterbacks. You know,
I think I think you have a good a. I
think Coach Green when he was at Ridgedale, of course
he had fel and uh, Richie Collins and he also
(01:34:09):
has had his son's play quarterback over here at River Valley.
Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
So you know, it's just, uh, it's it's just what type.
Speaker 3 (01:34:16):
Of offense you run and what style of offense, whether
you're going to be a pass first run or you're
going to mix it up. And boy, I'll tell you what,
if you can have a good running quarterback that's durable,
which is what we tried to develop because we expected
him on the option to keep it once in a while,
but also could pass the foot, pass the ball on
(01:34:37):
play action passes because that that's basically we lived off
of that. That's that's you know, how you can develop
a quarterback. And I think that all the teams had
had their own style and you just basically he's the
best best athlete on the field.
Speaker 1 (01:34:52):
Do you feel like and this is something that I'm
just curious when you look at different regions in Ohio
and this I think it's this way throughout all the
years of of Ohio football. Certain regions are known as
this is an air it out region. Other regions are like,
this is a ground and pound Marion County. To me,
(01:35:13):
even though we have a river Valley that that is
a much much of an aerial team. It's always been
a ground and pound area. And then the conferences have
but you go down to Cincinnati Dayton area, some of
those those bigger schools, they like to air it out. Yeah,
do you feel like that's always been that way?
Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
Well, you know, I got a chance a few years
ago to go to I watched six out of the
seven state championships. Don't call me a quitter, but I
had I had to get home sometime. But I'd say
five out of the six teams we're running football teams.
Some of them had two backs in the backfield. I
think Ontario's got it, got the right idea. But their
(01:35:56):
best kid obviously at quarterback, where he can touch the
ball every single play, whether it be run or pass
handed off to a really fine running back with a
great offensive line. And my thinking is you can actually
control football game with your offensive line, and that's what
Ontario is doing tonight. So to get back to your question,
I think this area is a running team.
Speaker 2 (01:36:17):
You look at Pleasant right now.
Speaker 3 (01:36:19):
They can pass the ball with Lowry, but they want
to run the football, and I think that we talk
about clock management all the time. If you have the
ball and you don't have an interception or a fumble
to give him an easy touchdown, you're controlling the game.
Speaker 2 (01:36:35):
So you want to keep the game, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:36:36):
I know you win with defense, you have to have
a defense, but you control the game. And I think
the teams that are up and coming. I remember when Jesse
Miller went over to North Union a few years ago,
probably longer in a few years ago, but time passes
so fast, and he took him, the program was down
a little bit, and he went to the wing TA
and he ran the football, ran the football, and he
(01:36:58):
and had a couple ten and zero, ten.
Speaker 2 (01:37:01):
And oh nine to one seasons. But yeah, I think
that if.
Speaker 3 (01:37:05):
You want to get the program turned around, you can
teach the kids to run, block and control the game.
Elgin's doing it right now with their wing team. I
think they're getting beat you know, they were getting beat
seven to nothing halftime. But teams that are up and
coming and have strong programs over the years, I think
run the football.
Speaker 1 (01:37:24):
You talk about that the state finals a couple of
years ago. That was the year I believe Carrie was
there and that you were right that year a lot
of those teams and they went up against teams that
were passing the ball. They went up against the cold
Water team that was you know, they could run the ball,
but they were known for airing it out and Carrie
was very much a ground and pound team that would
(01:37:45):
throw it when you least expected it. And that team
was able to get a state title with that, right yeah,
And you know, just go back to the game tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:37:57):
Ontario's got that second guy in the backfield, and right now,
how many carries does Jennings have tonight, like one or
two at the most. He tried to throw a couple
of swing passes to him to try to get him
the ball in space, but it was a little bit
overthrown on the lateral there. But I think you've got
to have that second guy because what Ontario has been
able to do is kind of keep a guy to
(01:38:19):
kind of spy on him and if he breaks contained,
he's there to make tackle and he and Hebert. I
remember last year in some of the games that we
did when he got in trouble, he was able to
rip off chunks of yardage.
Speaker 1 (01:38:33):
Tonight he hasn't been able to do that. All right, Well,
that's great insight from coach. We'll take one more break
and then when we come back, we'll have the start
of the third period. You're listening to high school football

The Matthews Honda Acurra High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (01:39:53):
Back herett River Valley finishing up halftime The Matthew Sonda
Akra High School Game of the Week between the Vikings
and Ontario. Eric Mosley alongside coach John Kuzio Scott Cameron
down the sideline, coach, let's just kind of cover what
what do you think each team? What adjustments might need
(01:40:15):
to be made for each team, but also especially for
River Valley, what kind of adjustments do you think maybe
we might see out of them in the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:40:23):
Well, if you know what coaches words were right before
the halftime, we were just gonna keep doing what we do,
and that's throw the football and try to move the
ball down the field get some scores. But they've got
to make a break or two for themselves too. They've
got to pick one off or they've got to get
a sack. They've got to cough off a fumble on Ontario,
they've got to rock the running backs, those guys that
(01:40:45):
are toting the ball. They've got to they've got to
make something happen defensively and give the offense a quick score,
an opportunity for a quick score, and get some momentum
back and get some excitement back in these stands over here.
But they can't come out with their dabber down. They've
got to they've got to come out. They've got to
not panic and get back.
Speaker 2 (01:41:05):
To their game.
Speaker 1 (01:41:06):
And I just want to get your thoughts on this. Sometimes,
when you know, it's been a year since they've played
this Ontario team and teams change, sometimes the team does
come out smacky in the mouth a little bit. Do
you think that it's one of those things where in
the second half River Valley, now they know what they're
up against and they can kind of be like, Okay,
(01:41:28):
we're going to be more aggressive this time. Because we
noticed early on especially the defensive secondary. They just had
a hard time getting these guys down. But it seemed
like they're towards the end of the first half that
that defense was getting a lot tougher.
Speaker 3 (01:41:42):
Yeah, they were, and I don't know if as Ontario
was getting a little bit more conservative. But the thing
that River Valley cannot do is they can't just deteriorate.
They can't start making more penalties, you know, those kinds
of things. They've got to play with some with some
poise and not paying. They're a good football team and
(01:42:05):
that's what they have to do. So coaches down there
getting them going and each and every play think that
I'm going to do the best I can for each
and every play, but think I do think that the
defense needs to pick it up and start hitting and
cause a fumble or do something and get some excitement defensively.
I want to give a shout out to Devin DuRane,
(01:42:26):
who's listening to us while he's working and everybody. Actually,
I want to shout out to everybody that's listening to
us at home and at work. We do this because
you want to hear these kids, You want to hear
these games, and we love being able to bring it
to you. We think all of our sponsors as well. Scott,
I want to go to you real quick. What was
(01:42:46):
the mood of River Valley as they came out here
for the second half.
Speaker 4 (01:42:51):
It was very methodical they came out and what Coach
Wall said, they came out and they're preparing like they're
just gonna do what they do in the second half,
you know. Talking to him this week, he said in
the next factor would be being able to run the ball. Well,
they haven't really run the ball, and being able to
control Ontario's defense.
Speaker 12 (01:43:10):
It's been kind of all passed.
Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
He also emphasizes the turn or the pennties and that's
really been kind of hurt in Rear.
Speaker 12 (01:43:17):
Valley as well.
Speaker 4 (01:43:18):
So it's a tail two halves hopefully, and Rever Valley
definitely has to make a couple of good stuffs and
like coach mentioned, some turnovers and give themselves a chance
to come back.
Speaker 1 (01:43:28):
All right, thanks Scott, River Valley kicking off. Hudson Pollock
kicks it off. It goes to the five, picked up
there to the ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty five, thirty and
a spin move thirty five and down to the forty
and that's their big runner there, Batlenburg.
Speaker 3 (01:43:49):
A lot of arm try to arm tackle out there.
Eric right now, there was about three or four missed
tackles on that kickoff coverage there, giving Ontario good feeling
position forty yard line their own Ontario's own forty yard line.
So let's see if River Valley what they talked about
(01:44:09):
at halftime, because usually in this first couple plays we
get to see. So we'll see what Miller and company
do here with the twenty seven to seven lead and
ball first here in the second half, first and ten
at their own forty hands off to Vatlenberg across the
forty to forty five and gets to midfield, and I
(01:44:30):
think that might be a matthew soniagra first down, a
ten yard run by Vatlenburg. Well, I could tell what
Ontario's coach talked about. No letdowns, man, that's what they
talked about. That kid came through the line with his
knees up. Offensive line. Very impressed. This is one of
the better offensive line I have seen in a while
(01:44:50):
at this level.
Speaker 1 (01:44:51):
Well, we don't know what's happening over at Shelby right now,
but Shelby seems to be in a battle with Harding.
I'm looking at this Ontario team as being a really
tough team to beat. Back to passes Miller, he gets
flushed out to the fifty up head to the fifty
or forty five and forty, and that's a Matthew sound.
After a first down, he looked like he was dead
to rights in the backfield. But once he breaks contain,
(01:45:13):
he is just about unstoppable.
Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
And guys had angles on him and he just ran
away from him. I'm telling you, he's going like two
strides and he's covered five yards first and ten at
the River Valley thirty nine, two big runs for Ontario
to start off the second half, and off to Batlenberg.
Speaker 1 (01:45:34):
He takes it like a cannon out to the thirty five,
to the thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:45:40):
Finally brought down by Coddale over here. And the thing
is the clock keeps running. He stayed in bounds, which
is what Ontario wants to do is shorten this ballgame.
River Valley wants the length, and the ball gave him
give them more opportunities.
Speaker 1 (01:45:54):
So actually out of bounds after about an eight yard
game and right there Vatlenberg, just I mean, he was
like he was shot out of a cannon.
Speaker 3 (01:46:05):
Ontario in a tight formation with two blocking backs, and
that's where exactly where they're running. They're pretty much telling
River Valley, here we come. They brought an offensive tackle
and put him at the wing, and brought a full
back and put him right behind the guard and just
lining up there. And they're not even gonna huddle, They're
just gonna line up and go again.
Speaker 1 (01:46:25):
It's James Mahon with the Matthews Honda after a first
down up ahead to the twenty six yard line and
the same formation again, except the one guy that's behind
the guard is not a full back. He's number sixty
four Ontario. So they've got two linemen in the backfield
(01:46:49):
right on the right side. I think it's number sixty one,
sixty one, seventy six.
Speaker 2 (01:46:55):
Yeah, so those are two linemen that are lining up
right on the right side.
Speaker 1 (01:46:59):
They're saying, here we come right behind the garden tackle
right end on the left tight end. Yeah, so it's
a double tights with that formation. The handoff to the
right side, that's Mahan. He tries to get to the
outside after a false start penalty moved them back five
yards and that's tackle for no gain.
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
And that brings up second down.
Speaker 3 (01:47:22):
Very nice defensive played by River Valley that time to
bounce it to the outside and the guys on the
outside came up and cleaned it up. So real nice
adjustment by River Valley on that. And it looks like
Ontario is gonna spread it out again.
Speaker 2 (01:47:36):
Second down and fifteen.
Speaker 1 (01:47:39):
And we got stack receivers two on each side, a
slot on the left and Miller steps up and now
he's sacked. They may give him a forward progress for
one yard. I think he just didn't realize how quickly
that pocket collapsed on him. He was stepping up to
maybe try to make a throw and it was like, oh, no,
(01:47:59):
these guys are here.
Speaker 3 (01:48:00):
Yeah, he was looking for the inside receiver in the
slot going down the scene, but he was covered very
nicely and he really didn't take a drop back after
in his initial setting there. And you're right, Eric, the
defense collapsed on him very quickly. And I'll tell you what,
he's not really securing the football. So if he has
a flaw, that's what happened on that. I think River Valley,
(01:48:20):
if they take a shot, they could probably jar it loose.
Speaker 1 (01:48:22):
Third and fourteen, Miller back to pass he's flushed and
there's a flag that's a hold and he throws it
out incomplete, but that's going to be a holding penalty.
I would almost decline it to make it fourth down.
Speaker 3 (01:48:35):
Well, number six for River Valley cook putting great pressure.
That's Harrison Bradley six three two ten. Defensive end really
did a nice job putting pressure on Miller and forcing
a hold.
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
So it looked like the coaches were declining it. So
taking their chances. Where the ball is fourth down in
fourteen and I don't think it's a bad idea to
decline it there.
Speaker 2 (01:49:05):
Well, one thing for sure we will find out yep.
Speaker 1 (01:49:08):
So four receivers on the near side, one up top,
single coverage, double high safeties, Miller alone in the backfield.
I almost feel like they're trying to flood the left
side for Miller to go to the right, and that's
what he's doing looking for the pass interference and the
ball comes down intercepted.
Speaker 2 (01:49:26):
By River Valley. There's the break they needed right there.
Speaker 3 (01:49:29):
Looks like old Lang he went up with the offensive
man and became the intended receiver on that took it
away from him basically at the highest point.
Speaker 2 (01:49:40):
Great play by lang, and Lang was right there.
Speaker 1 (01:49:43):
Step first step, and again going back to what coach
Waddle had said this week, we want Miller to beat
us with his arm, and he's had one really good
pat and touchdown pass, but everything else.
Speaker 2 (01:49:57):
Has been a little bit dicey.
Speaker 1 (01:50:00):
So now first and ten for the Vikings at their
own twenty, River Valley feels some momentum.
Speaker 3 (01:50:07):
There goes Ontario jumping and they do not call it.
He jumped right into the neutral zone.
Speaker 1 (01:50:13):
I don't think River Valley was set well, I think
they were, but well they were still moving out here. Okay,
nine seconds left on the play clock. Man in motion,
that's ax line. He sets back up back to pass
River Valley and that's Ebert throws it out of bounds.
(01:50:33):
He was under a lot of pressure, and really.
Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
The defensive line is just going in the seams and
the offensive line cannot move their feet fast enough for
Ontario's defensive line.
Speaker 1 (01:50:46):
They're in there. So coach, what do you try to do?
What do you say to your offensive lineman for that?
If they're coming in those seams like that. I haven't
seen a screen pass yet. Oh there you go, there
you go, take care of the over aggression. Second down
passes and oh Man right in the hands. I believe
at Snyder and he was looking at the defender ready
(01:51:07):
to run.
Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
He drops it. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
In this situation, River Valley has got almost play flawless
offense and you cannot have any penalties or drop passes
if that's what they live on.
Speaker 2 (01:51:18):
So big break for Ontario.
Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
Third down and ten at the River Valley twenty vikings
with the ball looks like a blitz from the outside.
Speaker 2 (01:51:28):
Here it comes. Ebert throws it down.
Speaker 1 (01:51:31):
The middle and incomplete, but there's a penalty flag and
I think it's going to be on the defense.
Speaker 2 (01:51:37):
With a hold on a receiver.
Speaker 3 (01:51:40):
Another break for River Valley here, they've got to capitalize,
so they were gonna have to punt the football. Now
they get yards marked off, probably a first.
Speaker 1 (01:51:50):
Down, and I think that was on Bob Penn Miller
and Miller this is his first season playing defensive back,
so that's an automatic first down. The drive stays alive.
Eight nineteen left in the third period. River Valley with
the ball down twenty seven to seven, four wide receivers
(01:52:16):
to the top. One down here on the near side,
back to passes. Ebert steps up in the pocket keeps
his eyes down field, throws it and it's knocked away
almost their accepted number.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
Thirteen's a freshman again. Zane Curry.
Speaker 3 (01:52:29):
Wow, he's small, but he is active, he's wiring. He
gets in there and he boy, he put his hands
up just at the right time and knocked the ball down.
Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
Big defensive play.
Speaker 1 (01:52:41):
How many freshmen do you see starting at middle linebacker.
I mean, you just don't see it.
Speaker 3 (01:52:47):
Well, I tell you, Hiland's doing a good job of
running guys in and out, and he's in there on
this series.
Speaker 1 (01:52:54):
Off sides, Well, I think Ontario came very well prepared
and they are keeping guys fresh, that's for sure. And
that's one thing I've noticed too. River Valley and Ontario
have about the same amount of players on each side,
but Ontario really is bringing in.
Speaker 3 (01:53:14):
A lot of different guys. Yeah, the defensive line is
putting a lot of pressure. Curry's come in and now
he's playing giving the inside linebacker. They do have some
guys that are going both ways. So this is very
smart by the coach. Second and five, Ebert back to pass.
He loves it up caught.
Speaker 1 (01:53:32):
That's axe line at the fifty up ahead of the
forty five and that's a Matthew Hontaker first down for
the Viking.
Speaker 3 (01:53:38):
I really liked the way he looked the ball in.
He's made some great catches. He made that one in
the end zone for a touchdown. He just looked very
relaxed on that particular play.
Speaker 2 (01:53:47):
And now they were off sides. There we go. That's
a freak. Yeah, very very.
Speaker 3 (01:53:54):
Good job by axe line or excuse me, Ebert to
pick up a quick five yards there.
Speaker 1 (01:54:00):
Good job by Ebert to get up to the line
of scrimmage quickly and the offense to get set up.
Speaker 3 (01:54:05):
My question is why did the referees allow them to
do that with with hitting the young man down, he
could have been injured.
Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
I don't know. Maybe that's maybe.
Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
I don't know if he was faking order what happened,
But he took a while to get up, and the
referees didn't even look around to see if anybody was
in the offensive backfield.
Speaker 1 (01:54:23):
So River Valley doing everything they need to do to
keep this drive going. First down in five ball at
the Ontario thirty nine yard line. Ebert one back in
the backfield with him. Man in motion is Snyder little
bubble screen Snyder gets away from one but gets right
back into a good recovery there by Vatlenburg and that's
(01:54:46):
a loss of about two.
Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
Yeah, that kid right now, and he's hurt. He's hurt
a little bit. I was just gonna say, that's one
kid cannot they can afford not to not to get hurt.
There he go, he's going down.
Speaker 1 (01:55:00):
Well, they told him to go down because they don't
want They knew he wasn't going to get off the
side to the sideline. Yeah, he's in a lot of
pain and I don't know. It could be a cramp,
but I think it was either a sprained ankle or
a knee issue.
Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
But he's carried the football quite a bit tonight, picked
up a lot of good yardage for Ontario. This could
be a tough break for them.
Speaker 2 (01:55:23):
Let's go down to Scott for an update. Scott.
Speaker 4 (01:55:26):
Yeah, honestly, it looked like when he went down he
just kind of got rolled up on.
Speaker 9 (01:55:31):
It.
Speaker 4 (01:55:31):
Could be an ankle, could be a knee. But you know,
this is that interception that's really kind of a shot
in the arm that were Valley needed and they have
a little momentum. So now they have to really stop
Ontario when they get the ball back, because guys Ontario,
you know, I was trying to leave a good word
to describe how they're moving the ball, and the word
I'm looking for is angry.
Speaker 12 (01:55:53):
You can tell Ontario runs angry.
Speaker 4 (01:55:56):
So whatever rumor Valley does year, they're gonna have to
stop that angry offensive Ontario.
Speaker 3 (01:56:01):
Well, right now, River Valley's got to take care of
business offensively with seven to seventeen to go down twenty
seven to seven, and the thing that they've got.
Speaker 2 (01:56:10):
To do is get out of bound.
Speaker 3 (01:56:11):
Receivers have to get out of bounds and lengthen this
ballgame Eric and.
Speaker 1 (01:56:15):
Again no real middle safeties. They're playing everybody up. That
middle of the field's wide open. It is it is
athlete versus athlete, and this Ontario defense they like to
take chances. They feel like they have the players. Second
down and seven.
Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
Combo route out here on the outside.
Speaker 1 (01:56:34):
Ebert steps up. Now he gets it out and that's
complete and that's caught.
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
Great job, and there's Park.
Speaker 1 (01:56:40):
With the reception in the Matthew sonta Aker first down
quickly to the line of scrimmage up at the thirty
one yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:56:46):
It's thirty two yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:56:48):
River Valley is there, stack receivers on the outside, slot
left and Ebert gets it slant in the middle. Ooh,
hard hit but incomplete.
Speaker 3 (01:56:59):
Bring he's up second down. The ball was tipped so
was it wouldn't be interferenced. Tellyo, River Valley's got a
little bit of hop in their step right now. The
offensive line with a little bit better protection. Really, Park,
that was only the first catch, I believe all night
I did. They try to target him a couple of times,
but really he's our second leading receiver.
Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
They've got to go to him more.
Speaker 1 (01:57:22):
Second down and ten at the Ontario thirty two yard line,
man in motion, his Park goes from right to left,
sets up four wide up top, looks like safety staying back,
double high safeties underneath. Complete and that one and that's
to number thirteen. Elis McFarland for the completion. Third down,
(01:57:44):
River Valley up to the line again, back to pass
and that's knocked away. Just a good job by the
defensive lineman to get his hand up.
Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
Yeah, the offensive line have got to try to hit
him down lower, not on their knees, but hit him
down to get their hands down so that they so
Ebert could have a throwing lane there. Highland doing a
great job getting the hands up once the ball was released.
Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
Fourth down and six River Valley. Did I say, Highland?
You did say sorry about that?
Speaker 1 (01:58:14):
Ontario looks like a blitz coming from the right side.
It is Ebert going to the end zone and ball
is overshot.
Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
Oh what fly got They finally got it. They did
call it.
Speaker 1 (01:58:29):
That may have if I'm an Ontario coach, I'm saying
that was uncatchable. But what I would say in response
to that was, well, he was impeded the whole way.
Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
Yeah, and he had a hold of him and the
ball was when the ball was thrown.
Speaker 3 (01:58:44):
So you know, sometimes all that barking that the coaches
were doing in the first half, yep.
Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
Paid off.
Speaker 1 (01:58:51):
So that's an automatic first down pass interference on the Warriors.
That's a fifteen yard penalty up ahead to the Ontario.
Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
A lot of time left, sixteen yard line. I get
out here till about ten thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:59:08):
That's okay, it's less I have to talk in the
post game triple overtime. Ebert takes off on his own
and he is just stacked up.
Speaker 2 (01:59:17):
That was a called draw play.
Speaker 1 (01:59:20):
But the way that Ontario's interior defensive line is running
up in there.
Speaker 2 (01:59:24):
It's just impossible.
Speaker 3 (01:59:25):
Did you just see what happened? They brought it, run
into new guys on the and ran the two guys out.
So they are really and that'd be nice to have
six seven guys that can play defense line second down
and twelve. If they switch jerseys, you couldn't tell them apart.
They're all built about the same, Yes they are. Jennings
in the backfield with Ebert. He looks to the sidelines,
(01:59:48):
Ebert matching up one on one. Here we go, it's
man on man again. Safety's playing up.
Speaker 2 (01:59:56):
He's open on the sideline.
Speaker 1 (01:59:57):
Here he throws it, throws it to him man complete
to Jennings in the corner of the end zone, touchdown
River Valley.
Speaker 3 (02:00:06):
I saw when he went out on the swing, the
guy was late covering. Instead of going back to the corner,
he tried to cut him off and Jennings got behind
him for a running back. I'll tell you what, he's
an athlete. That was a great catch. It was a
great throw, but boy, it was a great catch. Five
thirty five left in the third period, River Valley able
to score a twenty three yard pass to Honor Jennings
(02:00:33):
makes a score twenty seven to thirteen. The Central High
Farmers co Op touchdown there by River Valley Pollock with
a kick up and that is good.
Speaker 1 (02:00:45):
So with five point thirty five left in the third,
River Valley's still here. Down by thirteen twenty seven to fourteen,
We'll be back. You're listening to high school football on
fourteen ninety WMRN sank he Bank.

been able to evolve.
Speaker 12 (02:01:33):
As an artist.
Speaker 21 (02:01:34):
I love R and B. I used to sing gospel
and church. I always will but I also had a
punk rock band. I also sang opera. I also love
rock and roll. So it's not that I wanted to
divert from that completely. It's just that I wanted to
incorporate a lot of other stuff, and I wanted to write.
I wanted to speak for myself.
Speaker 4 (02:01:49):
I didn't want to be a puppet.
Speaker 22 (02:01:50):
And it worked.
Speaker 21 (02:01:51):
It worked really well, and I'm happy.

Speaker 11 (02:01:58):
The Matthews Honda accurate. A high school Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:02:04):
Golf goes into the end zone and down there by Ontario,
so it'll be first and ten Warriors with the ball,
but River Valley found a sustained drive and some life
there and really go back to that defensive stop with
(02:02:26):
the interception in the end zone by laying it just
seemed to turn things for the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (02:02:31):
Yeah, I thought Ontario got a little greedy there. Had
tried to throw on top. They had one on one
coverage and they saw that he looked to the left.
Miller did and he that was a plan. Then he
came back to the right and just launched it and
what a great defensive play.
Speaker 2 (02:02:48):
First and ten at the twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:02:50):
Miller keeps it himself to the twenty and he's taken
out at about the twenty five, let's say about the
twenty seven yard line, brings up second down. But a
nice run there for seven yards eight yards on first down.
Speaker 2 (02:03:04):
And that was number thirteen.
Speaker 3 (02:03:06):
Allis McFarlane tried to come up and put a shot
on him, and man, I'll tell you what, he's hard
to bring down. If you go high, he knocks you
off his hip. If you go low, you know, he
doesn't even know you're there.
Speaker 1 (02:03:21):
Second down, hand off to the left side, up ahead
thirty thirty five and taken down there for Matthews Hondactor
first down.
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
I think that was Sourd's with the Carrie No. Twenty two.
That was Gavin Miller.
Speaker 3 (02:03:35):
Yeah, that was a real nice play call there, picking
up first down. This is exactly what Ontario has to do.
Keep the ball inbounds, keep the clock moving, pick up
first downs. I know we're only in the third quarter,
but I'll tell you what. River Valley's offense is dangerous
if they have the football. So first and ten.
Speaker 1 (02:03:57):
At the Ontario thirty six yard line, Ontario just taking
their time ten seconds left on.
Speaker 2 (02:04:01):
The play clock.
Speaker 1 (02:04:04):
Back in the backfield is Miller alongside the other Miller
and I believe what a timeout timeout? Ontario know that,
I don't know. They haven't taken another time out yet,
so that's our first time out of the half and
they saw something that was not lined up correctly. But
(02:04:24):
look at the emotion in the huddle for River Valley
right now, number five, which is Noah, we'reck He's out
there telling his guys to stay fired up. I just
like it's like they're much more focused here in the
second half.
Speaker 3 (02:04:42):
Yeah, and you know, they get another touchdown on the board.
I'll tell you what, they get one more on the board.
Now we're talking dogfight. The pressure is going to be
on Ontario. They do have a running offense and they
just need to keep picking up first downs if they
give up the ball. With quite a bit of time
here just in the third core, River Valley has got
(02:05:02):
some really you know, some really good offense to come
back on him, and they're playing with some confidence right now.
Speaker 1 (02:05:09):
Offensively, first and ten at the Ontario thirty six hand
off to Miller and he's stacked up only a gain
of about two brings up second down.
Speaker 3 (02:05:19):
Yeah, real nice defensive play there. Looked like seventy five
was in there. Jackson Kloa six four forty five. I
tell you they got some stout guys. Number six defensive line,
Harrison Bradley is in there really working hard right now.
Speaker 2 (02:05:37):
This is where it happens right here. The defense.
Speaker 3 (02:05:39):
They've got to do something to Forrest Ontario to punt
the football.
Speaker 1 (02:05:43):
Gavin Miller in the backfield with Bod Penn Miller. He
gets a snap, now he rolls to his right, gets
to the outside up to the forty and then he
breaks through a tackle and up ahead to the fifty.
That's a man running the ball right there.
Speaker 2 (02:05:58):
First down.
Speaker 3 (02:05:58):
Here hasn't been one guy able to take him down
on a hamst initial hit. It's got to be when
he's off balance and he's coming to a close and
you got two guys hitting him, one from one side
and one on the other.
Speaker 2 (02:06:12):
We haven't mentioned his name.
Speaker 3 (02:06:14):
JJ Walton for River Valley is in there on defensive line.
Speaker 2 (02:06:17):
Six two two sixty five.
Speaker 1 (02:06:19):
Junior swing pass complete up ahead of the fifty, and
now it feels like River Valley on these tackles they're
just trying to get the ball. You don't have to
worry about that right now, be tackling the guy. Don't
worry about getting the ball.
Speaker 3 (02:06:33):
Yeah, and you know Ontario is just very determined and
they know how crucial this drive is. Three to zero,
three to go. You just tuned in. You're missing a
good one. Twenty seven to fourteen. Ontario on top. Ontario
playing like they want to win this football game and
keep the ball.
Speaker 1 (02:06:53):
Second and four at the River Valley forty five yard line,
Miller hands it off to Mahon and he gets ahead
to the forty and that's another Matthews Honda akra first down.
Speaker 3 (02:07:09):
Yeah, very nice carry, first down for Ontario. The regular
fullback is out. He must have it must have been
a little bit more serious. That's Mason Vanderberg. He's a
leading rusher. But they're just running by committee now and
just picking up some first downs. They're trying to soften
(02:07:30):
up that River Valley defensive line again.
Speaker 1 (02:07:33):
Now, remember the last offensive series for Ontario. They drove
like this the last time, but everything stalled out by
about the twenty hand off to the right side and
nice tackle in the open field. That was Mahan with
the carry, about a gain of five second down.
Speaker 2 (02:07:52):
Snyder with the tackle.
Speaker 3 (02:07:53):
Yeah, Snyder came up I think forty four. That would
have been where's that wada on the tackle? Also, he's
been pretty active, but really they're not really stopping them
at the line of screamings like they would like to.
Speaker 1 (02:08:12):
Minute forty left in the third period, River Valley down
by thirteen, hand off again to Mahoni, gets ahead off
tackle to the right to the thirty tackled at the
twenty nine. That's another Matthew's hontiactor. First down.
Speaker 2 (02:08:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:08:25):
Now, Ontario's offensive line is starting to exert their will
on the defense right now, and they're coming together as
one and they know what's at stake, a stake here
on this series. First down, clock running one twenty to
go into third quarter, up twenty seven to fourteen, and
right now they're playing against the.
Speaker 1 (02:08:44):
Clock and Ontario taking plenty of time. No hurry by them.
Miller hands it off almost a little bit of a
shaky handoff there, but up ahead for about a gain
of four is Gavin Miller brings up second down.
Speaker 3 (02:09:02):
It's kind of nice when you have two other guys
come in and take the spot of you're starting running
back and still pick up pretty good yards. They're taking
their time. There's twenty eight seconds to go on the clock.
You don't want to go too slow to you know,
to slow down your momentum, but you don't want to
snap the ball, you know, with twenty five seconds to go.
Speaker 1 (02:09:25):
Thirty four seconds on the game clock. Now Miller Guess
gaves a sack and now gets across the fifteen yard line.
That's another Matthew's Hondakra first down. Looked like a blitz
from the outside flushed him and he should have been
tapping in the backfield. But he can't be reaching for
his legs.
Speaker 2 (02:09:42):
The thing that he is good at is he makes
you hit you from the side. You there's not been one.
Speaker 3 (02:09:49):
Guy to ever be able to take him on head up.
He shifts to the side and gets to the outside
and you just slide down his legs. And when he's
leaning forward, he's so tall that he going to pick
up three yards just by leaning forward.
Speaker 2 (02:10:03):
What a great run. And the quarter's coming and went end.
Speaker 1 (02:10:05):
Now all right, Well, we're still in a pretty good
battle here. As the third quarter comes to a close,
River Valley does the only scoring in the third quarter
makes it twenty seven to fourteen Ontario. Their lead cut
in half. Now we'll take a break. When we come back,
we'll have the start of the fourth quarter. You're listening

Speaker 11 (02:11:27):
The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:11:35):
The ball goes out to the outside and there's a
stop there. That ball went to pool, but maybe a
loss of I don't know. It's back to the line
of scrimmage. So second down and ten at the River
Valley fifteen or sixteen yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:11:53):
Real nice defensive play by River Valley there, and now
they're forcing a second and ten again.
Speaker 2 (02:12:00):
This is where Ontario stalled last time.
Speaker 3 (02:12:03):
Yeah, they threw a long pass and uh it was
picked off. So let's see if they're going to be
patient try to run the football or they're going to
try to go for the downs.
Speaker 1 (02:12:12):
And off to the right and tackled at the ten
yard line is Gavin Miller. Gain of about three may
maybe four brings up third down.
Speaker 2 (02:12:25):
Yeah, real good carried by Miller.
Speaker 3 (02:12:27):
They're bringing in, uh, one of their other guys in
the stable, James mahone six, and he's going in the
backfield beside Miller, keeping the clock moving.
Speaker 1 (02:12:40):
Ten fifty one to go. Ball is on the right
hash and there goes River Valley. They didn't call it though,
and that's really I mean, they called it the same
way earlier when Ontario jumped River Valley got back. Now
Miller running to the left, he's trying to cut a back.
He does and gets stacked up. He is short of
(02:13:03):
the first down. Decision time. You can kick a field
goal and give yourself a little bit more of a lead,
or you go fourth and three, have River Valley backed up,
go for it and if you don't get it, you
got the offense stacked up.
Speaker 2 (02:13:18):
Yeah, they're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (02:13:20):
They've got a really good field goal kicker. But you know,
this kind of a breeze has seemed like it's picked
up a little bit. Uh looks like gets fourth in
about a long one one and a half.
Speaker 1 (02:13:32):
So this is a huge, huge moment for River Valley.
Keep the ball in the quarterback's hands, Miller runs that,
he gets the outside, he's taken down in the backfield.
Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
Well, there you go. Great play.
Speaker 3 (02:13:46):
They must have known what was going on because River
Valley came up big there. That's the play of the
game right now. For River Valley's defense to stop him.
Speaker 2 (02:13:55):
And body Penn. Miller gets up slowly. He is limping
River Valley.
Speaker 3 (02:14:02):
They've got quite a let's see, they're on the about
the nine yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:14:08):
Where they have it on the six.
Speaker 3 (02:14:10):
Yep on the six, got quite a few yards to go.
But boy, I'll tell you what if they get something
going here, score again, we've got ourselves a ball game.
First and ten and Ebert looking to the sideline.
Speaker 1 (02:14:28):
Now he backs up alone in the backfield, back to pass,
gets it out there, completes a Snyder up ahead to
the twenty. He goes to cut it outside, gets tied up.
But that's a Matthew Sondagra first down there by Eli Snyder.
Speaker 2 (02:14:42):
I think that's a little bit of extra. Yeah, that
was that was way too come on, come on.
Speaker 3 (02:14:48):
Number one came in real late, and then he kept
pulling on him.
Speaker 2 (02:14:52):
I don't I don't know what they're not seeing here.
Speaker 1 (02:14:55):
I mean, that's just ridiculous. And Eli's beside himself. He
has every reason to be. I mean, you can't do
that when you call a penalty on Eli. Earlier that
was not even close to being a penalty, and now
it's just ridiculous. But it is a Matthews Honaker first
down for the Vikings. First and ten at the River
(02:15:19):
Valley twenty two yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:15:21):
Ebert back to pass.
Speaker 1 (02:15:23):
He's looking now her roles to his left, looking, throws
it out. That's complete up ahead to the thirty five
out the forty yard line. That's number ten and Jaden
McCullough another Matthews Hontaker first down for the Vikes.
Speaker 3 (02:15:35):
And what's even good about that is McCullough went out
of bound, so even when the balls lined up, it.
Speaker 1 (02:15:41):
Does not start. Nine thirty one left in this game.
River Valley down thirteen, twenty seven to fourteen. Ebert with
the ball, looks across the mill to Snyder, complete across
the fifty yard line, and that's a Matthews Honaker first
down for the Vikings at the forty nine. Now they're
getting their red them hurry up offense. Back to pass
(02:16:04):
Ebert across the middle. He had him on a slant
that was intended for time a net.
Speaker 2 (02:16:11):
But splitting those safeties.
Speaker 3 (02:16:13):
What they're trying to do is get lined up so
they can't run the two other defensive linemen in. So
something they're running out two in he gets lined up,
they could get it before they get those two guys
off the field.
Speaker 1 (02:16:27):
Something to point out Miller. Bob Penn Miller been playing
defensive back all game. He is out now and he
is their best athlete. So second and ten, Ebert back
to pass, slings it out. That's complete up ahead to
axe line and that's a Matthews Honda aker a first
down up at the thirty nine yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:16:48):
Yeah, very well coached there, Just something very simple. He catches,
the ball, gets out of bounds. Clock stops even on
the first down. Clock does not start until the snap
back to passes.
Speaker 1 (02:16:58):
Ebert rolls to his right, slings it out there side arm.
Oh dropped, but just to get that pass out there,
that is a long throw on that out and he
threw his sidearm.
Speaker 3 (02:17:10):
Yeah, he has got really good touch and the ball
comes out of his hand kind of effortlessly. He's been
throwing that ball around. He throws a lot of passes.
In pregame. I was watching him and his arm must
never get tired.
Speaker 1 (02:17:25):
Second and ten River Valley in Ontario Territory, and it
looks like I think bod Pin Miller's back in. He
is across the middle and that's a he was grabbed
on the slam, but incomplete. Real nice effort by Manette
(02:17:45):
to go down and try to get that football.
Speaker 2 (02:17:47):
He had his hands on it.
Speaker 3 (02:17:48):
The ball was thrown a little bit low, but I'll
tell you what, just a little bit higher, he's making
that catch.
Speaker 1 (02:17:55):
And he probably would have broken free too. Third down
and ten and River Valley playing.
Speaker 3 (02:18:04):
With a lot more confidence. They've got some rhythm. I
think the defensive line, even though they've been substituting, has
a lot more, has been getting a little bit tired here.
Speaker 1 (02:18:13):
Back to pass blitz throwing underneath and ooh, almost intercepted
by Miller. That was a delayed blitz up the middle.
So fourth down and ten for the Vikings and what
they've done in this situation all game.
Speaker 2 (02:18:29):
They go to the end zone.
Speaker 3 (02:18:30):
Landon Sewert's twenty four is the guy that usually they
send when he's creeping up to the line on the inside.
He comes in between the defensive end and the defensive
tackle and he shows it. And boy, I'll tell you what.
The offensive tackle went out on the end. The guard
went took the defensive tackle and nobody touched him.
Speaker 1 (02:18:49):
Nine oh four left in the game, eleven seconds on
the play clock, and the time out taken by coach Waddle.
Speaker 2 (02:19:00):
To talk about it.
Speaker 1 (02:19:02):
One thing you have to say about these Vikings they
never put their heads down and it was tough there
in that first half, but really they have controlled this
second half. Yeah, coaches really fired up down there, trying
to convince his team that they can do it.
Speaker 3 (02:19:21):
I'll tell you what. They react to his coaching and
his teachings, and they've played a very good second half.
They're definitely third quarter coming back and getting on the
board again. They get one on the board here their defense,
that'll pick their defense up right now. Their defense, some
of the guys are resting, so that's a big thing.
(02:19:42):
They they get down one score, anything can happen.
Speaker 1 (02:19:46):
Eric, let's go to Scott for an update. Scott, what's
it like down there right now?
Speaker 4 (02:19:51):
Lots of energy on the sideline guys, and they sent
it too.
Speaker 12 (02:19:54):
Obviously.
Speaker 4 (02:19:55):
This is probably the biggest playoffensive play at the game
for River Valley. But they are feeling good about themselves
right now, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (02:20:04):
Fourth down and ten ball at the Ontario thirty eight.
Back to pass pump fake now they go and oh man,
a miscommunication axe line cut his route off and I
think on the pump fake that's where Ebert was thinking
he would take off. So just a miscommunication and a
turnover on downs.
Speaker 3 (02:20:24):
Yeah, rather than going for the first down, they went
for one for the big, big play against the.
Speaker 1 (02:20:30):
Number one well and notice notice on that that time
they showed man and then backed up and played zone
and I think it threw River Valley off and River.
Speaker 3 (02:20:41):
Valley did a good job though. Or quarterback Eber did
a good job of avoiding a sack right off the
bat and stepped and found an open spot so he
could plan his feet and throw the football and is
doing a really nice job of passing the football. He
just has had some bad luck with some penalties and
also some drop balls.
Speaker 1 (02:21:01):
So first and ten for Ontario who are up twenty
seven to fourteen, and hand off to the right side,
and that's our guy number two, Vandenberg Vandenburg and he's
(02:21:22):
up ahead for Matthew Hondaker.
Speaker 2 (02:21:24):
First down.
Speaker 1 (02:21:24):
So he took a series off after coming up a
little gimpy. He's been treated and released basically the first down.
Speaker 3 (02:21:32):
They have him at one hundred and seventy five pounds.
But I'll tell you he runs like he weighs about
two twenty. The way he keeps his feet moving very
impressed the way he carries defensive guys with him and
he's running with a lot of heart.
Speaker 2 (02:21:44):
Tonight, Eric Clock is running. Just got an update from Scott.
He said that.
Speaker 1 (02:21:52):
Vandenberg's shoulder is a little bit banged up up the middle.
Huge hole there and a big first down. That carry
is Gavin Miller up across the forty to the thirty eight.
That's a Matthew Sondaker first down for the Warriors.
Speaker 3 (02:22:07):
Yeah, these guys are really this is a series right here.
This is the ball game right here. Eight sixteen to
River Valley down fourteen Ontario twenty seven and they're running
back by committee Ontario. The running backs are just taking
her time and really doing a nice job. The offensive
(02:22:28):
line has come back to the life for Ontario. Eight
minutes left in this game.
Speaker 1 (02:22:33):
Miller hands off to Miller who gets it across the
gall a.
Speaker 2 (02:22:37):
The ball comes out and who has it. They're saying,
here's River Valley gets the ball.
Speaker 3 (02:22:44):
There, we get there's the game there it is right there.
We said, this is the game, could be one way
or the other. Seven fifty to go, A lot of time.
Speaker 2 (02:22:53):
For River Valley.
Speaker 3 (02:22:54):
Receivers got to do a good job of getting out
of bounds. Ebert's gonna find the open guy. And I
really am convinced that the receivers are going to do
a little better job holding on to the football in
this series.
Speaker 2 (02:23:06):
The coach was really fired up in that last series.
Speaker 1 (02:23:10):
And I wonder if they may try to take a
couple shots early just to get a quick score. But
momentum is completely on the Viking side right now.
Speaker 3 (02:23:22):
They've got to play very determined, obviously, and they have
this whole second half, and the linemen have got to
dedicate themselves to.
Speaker 1 (02:23:29):
Keep Ebert upright ax line in motion back to pass
knocked away by one of the defensive lineman. Ebert tried
to lob it, but there's a flag out here, and
that's on River Valley illegal motion. Cannot have those right now. Well,
(02:23:49):
I think the guy that was going in motion didn't
get set.
Speaker 2 (02:23:54):
Well, he didn't get set and he kind of ran in.
Speaker 3 (02:23:57):
I think they were going to try to hit him
on the other top on a little swing pass, but
Eber didn't get the ball up released high, but to
no avail.
Speaker 2 (02:24:07):
Their forced was sucking down.
Speaker 1 (02:24:08):
Now, second down and ten, they declined the penalty. Seven
forty six left in the game, River Valley still down
by thirteen. Ebert scanning the field back to pass, throws
it out. That's a high throw just out of the
(02:24:30):
reach of Park. Just took off on Ebert.
Speaker 3 (02:24:34):
Yeah, he was pressured very badly by mahone six three,
one ninety five. He threw off his back foot Eric.
He just didn't have time to get set.
Speaker 1 (02:24:46):
Shelby up overhearting right now, twenty six to seven. In
the fourth quarter, Pleasant beating Highland thirty one to seven,
and now River Valley's moving. False start by River Valley,
and that's Ebert just trying to, you know, trying to
give them a long count.
Speaker 2 (02:25:06):
You know, he's trying to read the defense. He's trying
to scan and.
Speaker 3 (02:25:11):
Just a little mental lapse ere by the offensive line.
They're really working hard to I'll tell you what. They
really determined to keep those guys from Ontario out of there.
Ontario is only bringing four guys.
Speaker 2 (02:25:23):
Back to pass and oh taking off.
Speaker 1 (02:25:27):
He got a huge blitz off the corner, but Ebert
able to get the pass off the park unfortunately incomplete
lucky that that one didn't get intercepted.
Speaker 3 (02:25:38):
Yeah, the ball was really sailing right now because Ebert
is forced to throw off his back foot a lot
of pressure by Ontario.
Speaker 1 (02:25:48):
So River Valley going to go ahead and punt the
ball with seven thirty six left in the game. Another
score update, a final Ridgemont beats Elgend twenty eight to nothing.
Speaker 2 (02:26:00):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (02:26:02):
Hudson Pollock with the punt, goes back to Miller and
he just calls for fair catch. Interesting that they had
bod Ben Miller back to return the punt.
Speaker 2 (02:26:12):
He hadn't done that all night.
Speaker 3 (02:26:14):
Well, you know, maybe they just wanted to get him
one more time in the open field, make something happen. Yeah,
that's how important, Uh, every possession is for Ontario.
Speaker 1 (02:26:27):
And I understand. I mean, he is your best player.
You can't I personally don't feel like you should try
to rely You've got a lot of good players on
your team. Don't rely on him that much.
Speaker 3 (02:26:40):
Well, I don't think they have. I think they've given
the ball to what three or four O three?
Speaker 1 (02:26:46):
That's why in that situation, unless maybe they've had troubles
with punt return and he's just the guy and all
he was gonna do is call fair catch anyway. So
first and ten at the Ontario thirty five hand off
up the middle and that breaks free and gets tackled
at the forty four yard line. And again that's Vandenberg.
(02:27:10):
You talk about a north south runter man.
Speaker 3 (02:27:12):
He just takes that ball and doesn't make a cut
until he gets to somebody. In that time, he didn't
get to somebody until he got to the safety almost
broken loose man. Really just a nice runner there going
up through and he's exactly what you want to clock
a field clock is down the sixteen seconds or taking
their time or getting closer to seven minutes left in
(02:27:35):
the game.
Speaker 1 (02:27:35):
Matthew Hontaker first down for the Warriors. Batlenburg gets it
behind two lineman pulling and he gets tackled at the
fifty yard line. So a pick up of about four
second down.
Speaker 3 (02:27:48):
Yeah, it looks like number seven for River Valley. That's
Jennings on the tackle. Nice job of getting out there
and wrapping him up. But they're just picking up a
little bit of chunks here second about six and six
point thirty two to go, twenty two seconds on the clock.
The team's just looking over they're taking their time. You
(02:28:10):
could tell they're well coached.
Speaker 1 (02:28:12):
Yeah, they know how to play some clock management and
really in this second half, that's about all Ontario.
Speaker 2 (02:28:19):
Has been able to do.
Speaker 1 (02:28:20):
River Valley has been able to bend a little bit
but not break, especially on defensive blitz from the corner.
And now Vatlenberg slips in the backfield and he saw
that corner blitz coming from number twenty four Hayden Kanagi.
Speaker 3 (02:28:36):
Yeah, they took their blocking back and put him over
looked like he was going to go in motion, but
he was set and all they did was try to
give the ball off to that left side, but the
running back slipped in. Kanaggi made a tackle. So it's
third and about six. Make a third and seven and seven.
Speaker 1 (02:28:56):
Ontario fifteen seconds left on the play clock, five or
five thirty seven left in the game clock, and the
handoff to Vatlenberg off tackle and he gets tied up
at midfield, so brings up fourth down in a long six.
Speaker 3 (02:29:15):
Yeah, nothing wrong with punting the football in this situation.
You're up two scores, five point twenty to go. The
clock's gonna be running.
Speaker 1 (02:29:22):
Make River Valley h take it the length of the
field if you can. Bod Penn Miller is the punter
and the kicker as well.
Speaker 3 (02:29:30):
They've got ten guys up, they've only got one guy back.
Speaker 1 (02:29:33):
So back to receive is Eli Snyder and one thing
River Valley's got to do not jump off sides. Snap
comes back, there's the punt. Not a great punt, but
not terrible. Snyder catches it at the twenty. He's tackled
right away at the twenty one yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:29:53):
Yeah, real nice effort by Snyder there, feeling the ball
and a swirling win. That's not easy to do.
Speaker 3 (02:30:00):
Yeah, very nice play by Snyder, giving River Valley's decent
field position there. I mean, that ball hits the ground
and it's gonna roll down to the goal linees, So
you've got to get what you can there, River Valley. Here,
here's a situation down fourteen four forty seven.
Speaker 11 (02:30:19):
To go.
Speaker 2 (02:30:21):
Twenty seven to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (02:30:26):
Ebert alone in the backfield, five wide, back to pass. Now,
he scrambles, he gets away, throws it up and is
able to throw it out of bounds, but it blitz
off the outside big time.
Speaker 2 (02:30:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:30:41):
Ebers running for his life right there, and he's kind
of got up a little gimpy, you know, when they're
hitting him down low like that, and he's trying to
run away. They're getting his ankles and so stuff like
that happens in this situation running It appears to me
on tear was like, we're just going blitch you constantly.
Speaker 2 (02:31:02):
That is risky against a team that can pass the
ball like this. Well, they know they're up two scores.
Speaker 3 (02:31:07):
If they're only up one score, maybe they wouldn't take
that chance. But knowing that they're up two scores, passed
to the outside complete and that is Eli Snyder, and
that's enough for Matthews Hontakra. First down up ahead to
the thirty seven yard line. Yeah, real nice effort by Snyder.
(02:31:28):
They have him at one seventy. But I don't know.
I tell you what, what a gutsy player that young
man is.
Speaker 1 (02:31:36):
So first down and ten and he got out of bounds,
which is the big key there. Back to passes eber
big blitz he gets the way, No he doesn't. They
brought a jailhouse blitz.
Speaker 3 (02:31:48):
There's number thirteen. He's been all over the place. That's
a freshman. That's Zane Curry five ten, one seventy. Man
can he He just ran him down and made another
five fine defensive play and they.
Speaker 1 (02:32:05):
Must have really done a good job of disguising it
because River Valley did take their time to let the
coaches read the defense, so they must have disguised it
really well to be able to pull that off. Second
down and twenty five ball is at the River Valley
twenty two yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:32:21):
Now they only have three guys on the defensive line
everybody else but here they're bringing.
Speaker 1 (02:32:26):
Everybody and out and that is that is good defense.
Speaker 2 (02:32:31):
Man.
Speaker 1 (02:32:31):
It was close but incomplete, and the thing that the
defender did that was really impressive. That was number sixteen
Grady Muncie. He even held up a little bit before
grabbing the receiver who was in the air and make
sure it wasn't a pass interference.
Speaker 3 (02:32:48):
Yeah, that was to Jaden McCullough senior. So they tried
to throw the ball too, whoever is open. Coach talked
about the ten guys they've got that they put out
there to.
Speaker 2 (02:32:59):
Catch the football. Time out taken by.
Speaker 1 (02:33:04):
Bye high or I'll see I'm saying Highland by Ontario. Well,
let's talk to Scott down there. Give us an update.
Speaker 2 (02:33:11):
Scott, Well, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:33:14):
Just reading what you guys are really seeing and staying
up there, Ante is really disguising their blitzes very well,
that's one thing that coach Wattle was talking about this week,
how Ebert's really starting to read those blitz a lot better.
But like you guys have also been saying, the defensive
(02:33:34):
line has just been blowing through A, B and C
gaps and then just any blitzers coming up through gaps.
Has been a really hard night for Ever. He's really
just kind of at some times running for his life,
but he keeps extending the plays and we're Valley still
has a chance to come back and win this thing,
but they're gonna have to make some really incredible plays
here in the next couple of minutes.
Speaker 2 (02:33:56):
Thanks Scott.
Speaker 1 (02:33:57):
And we know if there's anybody that can do it
or lead that, it is Chase Eber, that is for sure.
Third down in twenty five, as River Valley comes back
out for offense, Ebert back to pass at the fifteen,
(02:34:20):
another huge blitz. He takes it downfield, overshoots the receiver,
and he threw that on his back foot.
Speaker 3 (02:34:29):
Yeah, and there's uh number thirteen Curry again, here's that freshman.
Speaker 1 (02:34:35):
So here's what I'm here's what I'm wondering, coach, and
we're they're gonna punt it.
Speaker 2 (02:34:46):
That is very interesting.
Speaker 3 (02:34:50):
If they don't punt in, Ontario's gonna have a short field,
I get it, but they're gonna have They're gonna have
a short field anyway.
Speaker 1 (02:34:59):
So punt comes down there and Ontario is not to
get their role.
Speaker 2 (02:35:03):
They get the roll.
Speaker 1 (02:35:04):
Yeah, Ontario is not fielding and the ball comes down
at the twenty four. Now River Valley has two timeouts,
three thirty two left. But it seemed like that last
offensive series, Ontario on defense just kind of committed to
a huge blitz almost every down to your point earlier.
Speaker 2 (02:35:28):
That's where you hope that you might.
Speaker 1 (02:35:29):
Have a screen game under there where you can maybe
throw something right underneath.
Speaker 3 (02:35:33):
Right, there's no there hasn't been any answer for Ontario.
And you would think that those guys would get tired.
If they only had four, I could see him getting tired.
But they had six and seven guys that they were
bringing in and out, running in and out every play.
Speaker 1 (02:35:50):
First and ten, hand off to the left side to
Batlenburg and he gets up ahead, nice gain of about
six still moving and down to the thirty one yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:36:02):
Second down.
Speaker 3 (02:36:02):
Yeah, and now those guys that we're talking about that
play defense, this whole game for Ontario. Now we're blocking
and with three point fifteen to go, it's gonna be
very difficult for River Valley to They've got to try
to strip the ball, get the ball back any way
they can. I want to remind every one after the game,
we will have the Pillar Credit Union Player of the Game,
(02:36:26):
and you know, I'd say there's a few that you
could choose from. For Ontario, obviously Bod Penn Miller, but
I also look at Vantlenburg as somebody that really made
a big difference in this game for Ontario. For River Valley,
you could go a lot of different ways there too.
Obviously the quarterback Chase Ever, I think Eli Snyder has
(02:36:50):
had a heck of a game at receiver and an
interception on defense.
Speaker 1 (02:36:57):
So a few different ways that we could go. Second
it down and say a long three hand off the battle. No,
Miller keeps it around the outside up to thirty forty,
he's up to the fifty, goes back cuts back to
the forty and down at the thirty five. And that's
(02:37:18):
a backbreaker right there, Matthews Hontaker first down.
Speaker 3 (02:37:22):
That's how you close a football game right there. And
the thing that you a lot of people wouldn't notice.
But if you he didn't go out of bounds, he
cut back in so he would get tackled in bounds.
Speaker 2 (02:37:34):
That's just smart.
Speaker 3 (02:37:36):
The clock was set, the ball was set, and the
clock continues. If he goes out of bounds, the clock
stops and doesn't start until the snap.
Speaker 1 (02:37:45):
Two fifty left in this game, Ontario with the ball
first and ten at the River Valley thirty three, Bantlenberg
with the handoff, he gets tied up. No gain on
that one second down.
Speaker 3 (02:37:59):
So right now now they're just taking her time to
thirty four and counting up up fourteen points twenty seven
fourteen and almost in a situation where maybe just keep
the ball, I probably just give the ball to the
running back and just see what you can get. They're
gonna be down under two minutes here shortly.
Speaker 1 (02:38:22):
Yeah, it's it's almost a formality of barring a you know,
bad snap, bad handoff fumble is some kind not much
else that Ontario has to do.
Speaker 2 (02:38:35):
Hand off to Bantlenburg.
Speaker 1 (02:38:37):
He goes off the right side and gets it across
the thirty and down to the twenty eight yard line.
River Valley takes the time out.
Speaker 3 (02:38:46):
I'm not sure I'm gonna I would let Biller even
run the ball at this point.
Speaker 2 (02:38:50):
He's too valuable to your team.
Speaker 3 (02:38:52):
Uh just it's pretty much in the books right now.
With one fifty three to go, River Valley taking a time.
Speaker 1 (02:38:59):
Out, So River Valley with no more timeouts. I want
to remind everyone. Also after the game, stick around for
the scoreboards show Racelin Graver and Alec Bichelman sitting back
at the studio waiting to get started. And we found
out just about fifteen to twenty minutes ago our colleagues
(02:39:21):
at Magic ninety five nine, Kirk and Jimmy, they've already
their game's over.
Speaker 2 (02:39:26):
They're already on their way back.
Speaker 3 (02:39:29):
Well, to give you a little preview, River Valley gonna
be traveling over to Pleasant next week. Pleasant winning their
game tonight thirty one to seven over Highland. And I
just got a quick text from our colleague from last year,
a Jays must be must be listening to part of
the game because I think we're the only game going
(02:39:50):
on in the area.
Speaker 2 (02:39:51):
I just want to say he had a game tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:39:53):
Yeah, he has to throw out clock management, and so
I'm trying to find out how they did tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:40:00):
Miller runs to the outside and I think he got
the first down, and I think that's going to do
it and put the vikings on ice. It is a
Matthew Sondiaker first down. All I wanted was a score
and he has to write a book here. No, he said,
running clock almost he's almost home. They beat Ben Logan
(02:40:21):
forty nine to nothing.
Speaker 2 (02:40:22):
Nice. So that would be Belle bell Fountain. Tavian Saint Clair.
Speaker 1 (02:40:29):
At the quarterback who was the number one quarterback in
the nation, and we are thrilled for aj.
Speaker 2 (02:40:37):
He should come in for the post game.
Speaker 1 (02:40:39):
Yeah, if you're halfway home, just come on out. We
won't ask you anything about Belle Fountain. We'll want your
opinions on college football, because lord knows, when we start
talking college football, we probably all sound like idiots. Coach
doesn't stick around for that conversation because he says he
(02:40:59):
doesn't watch enough college football. Nope, So they kneeled down
and now we're under a minute. So this game is
going to go to Ontario. But man, the second half
(02:41:22):
was owned.
Speaker 2 (02:41:26):
By River Valley. I would say, so, wouldn't you, coach?
Speaker 3 (02:41:29):
Well, whether that's true or not, I guess at this point,
it doesn't matter. Score is twenty seven to fourteen, and
you got to play a whole game. Ontario basically took
it to him in the first half. Set the tone
they came on a business trip and give them a
lot of credit. They've got a lot of talent and
a lot of heart over there.
Speaker 1 (02:41:49):
So the final score here at River Valley, Ontario wins
this game twenty seven to fourteen. We'll go ahead and
take a break and come back and wrap things up
and have the killer credit Union player. The game you're
listening to high school football in fourteen ninety WMRN.

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:43:14):
Back here at River Valley High School as the Vikings
go down to Ontario, final score twenty seven to fourteen.
Right now, River Valley gathering at midfield, Coach, just what's
your overall thoughts.
Speaker 3 (02:43:32):
On this game? Very impressed with Ontario. They had a
great game playing. They mix it up running pass. Obviously,
they threw some interceptions, but the ground game in the
first half was unbelievable. Their offensive line controlled the game
and they really put a lot of pressure on quarterback
Ebert And I mean that's pretty much it. River Valley
(02:43:55):
dropped some passes, had some penalties offensively, but Ontario, boy,
they're solid. You know, some of these guys, like we said,
who were sophomores and juniors last year and the year
before that, really have come of age. And I think
they're really a form and a opponent for everyone in
the MOAC.
Speaker 1 (02:44:12):
And Scott right now waiting to grab the player of
the game, Yeah, he might be a while coaches talking
to his team. Yeah, and but both teams, I think
you have to be impressed with just the game that
they played. Ontario came out like gangbusters to start this game,
(02:44:34):
but the intensity that River Valley brought and they were
a little undisciplined in the first half, but many they
were just you know, a few drop passes away from
keeping this game close in the first half.
Speaker 2 (02:44:47):
And the second half.
Speaker 1 (02:44:49):
I think they came out much more focused and really,
I mean that game was just a game of two
different halves.
Speaker 3 (02:44:56):
Well, I think the first couple plays in the second
half that Ontario ran the football. They went into that
double tight with two linemen behind the line and thinking
that they're just gonna run the ball and take time
off the clock and bowl River Valley over, and it
did work for a couple of plays, and then they
had to go to back to their offense and spread
it out a little bit, and they got a little
(02:45:17):
greedy on that and kind of throw it up for
downs and catch River Valley napping. But a big interception
there in the end zone and that kind of turned
it around for River Valley in the second half, and
they were able to go down and peck away and
get a couple of breaks and then put it in
the end zone and make it a two score game.
But they Ontario went to work. And I'll tell you what,
(02:45:39):
the running backs for Ontario by committee tonight really did
a nice job. I don't remember one running back gett
knocked backwards. Yeah, and they weren't, you know, the big,
big running back full back types. They were the half
back types. But boy, I'll tell you they kept their
feet and they ran with a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:45:57):
Of heart, and they run off tackle into the outside
with a lot of effectiveness, and and then up the
middle when they need to. And I think they tell me,
if you agree with this coach, they run up the
middle when they think that the defense is a little
bit more tired. Everything else was to the outside to
kind of wear them out, and then it was like, Okay,
(02:46:19):
now we're going to pound the inside of this line
and really try to make make some yards that way.
Speaker 3 (02:46:25):
Well, River Valley had to go in the fourth quarter
with a couple of different defensive linemen because I truly
believe that the guys who started the game were getting
really tired, obviously, and they.
Speaker 2 (02:46:36):
Were trying some other guys.
Speaker 3 (02:46:37):
I mean, coaches, you know, I know this is the
fourth game, but when you're in there and you're the
defense or the offense is picking up chunks of Ylaraday
up the middle, you've got to make some changes. And
I think River Valley was trying to do that to
try to find some guys that could maybe with maybe
a little bit bigger size and could could stop the
running game of Ontario.
Speaker 2 (02:46:57):
But Ontario was.
Speaker 3 (02:46:59):
The term to keep the keep the ball moving, keep
the clock moving, and shorten this game, and they did
a great job of it.
Speaker 1 (02:47:06):
The one thing is for certain, and I believe this
even more after watching this game. Uh, the moac IS
is a wide open league and it's a tough league
to play in.
Speaker 5 (02:47:18):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:47:19):
Not a lot of teams that can't really compete with
each other. They all can so Scott has our pillar
Credit Union player the game. Scott, let us know who
we got.
Speaker 4 (02:47:31):
The little Credit Union player of the game here, Eli Snyder.
Speaker 12 (02:47:34):
Eli a great.
Speaker 4 (02:47:35):
Job on both sides of the ball, made a nice
pick jumping that route, made some great catches on the
offensive end.
Speaker 12 (02:47:42):
Just didn't kind of end the way you wanted to. Yeah,
that's right.
Speaker 19 (02:47:44):
I mean there's a lot of little details that we
know work throughout the week, and then you know, we
come into the game and you know, we just can't get.
Speaker 2 (02:47:51):
The job done.
Speaker 19 (02:47:52):
We've talked all year about how we got to play
four quarters and today came out flat in the first half.
In you know, the second half, we've got a defensive shoutout.
I know, just we got to put a whole game together.
Speaker 4 (02:48:01):
Absolutely, and so there is a silver lining to all this. Now,
I wasn't gonna ask if I'm gonna ask you anyway.
That's rivalry week now, A right, So you got pleasant
next week? What do you think going into this where
do you think you guys have to go leadership vote
from you and Ebert and as a team moving forward
into this week, you.
Speaker 19 (02:48:19):
Know, of all weeks, definitely want to be hungry rivalry week.
You know, every year is a tough game, you know,
no matter you know record going into that game, you
know it's gonna be a hyped up game. But you know,
we kind of shut all that out and just kind
of focus on our work throughout the week and come
ready to play on Friday. O.
Speaker 12 (02:48:33):
Eli, I've seen you from birth to now. Congratulations young man,
and see you next week.
Speaker 1 (02:48:40):
All right, thanks Scott, and I can I can actually
say the same thing. I've known Eli since he was
a baby, and he comes from an amazing family and
he is he is a great ballplayer and also just
a great kid. You hate it's it's a it's a
tough situation because obviously we want to honor that player
(02:49:03):
of the game, but man, it's after a loss, so
it's hard to really have to deal with that.
Speaker 2 (02:49:08):
We got Scott down with coach Waddle.
Speaker 4 (02:49:10):
Go ahead, Scott, coach man, you you talk about halftime.
Speaker 12 (02:49:15):
You're gonna play your game right. It almost worked.
Speaker 4 (02:49:18):
You got some breaks you just couldn't finish and execute offensively.
Speaker 14 (02:49:21):
Yeah, we just we just didn't make enough plays tonight
on offense. I mean, whether we didn't protect, whether we
didn't catch the ball, where whether we didn't put the
ball where we needed to be. It just seemed like
every time we need a crucial play, we just didn't
come up with it tonight on offense.
Speaker 4 (02:49:38):
Yeah, but you know, defensively, especially down there, you know
it's cru crucial situation and fourth and short, and you
got to be proud of your defense. I mean, you
you stopped Miller in the backfield. Not many teams can
say they stopped an intentional run by Miller in the backfield.
Speaker 12 (02:49:55):
So there's some good things to take away from this.
Speaker 14 (02:49:57):
Oh yeah, I mean obviously, you know, our defense pitch
a shout out the second half, and we're you know,
extremely proud of our guys for doing that and uh,
you know, stepping up to the challenge again that we
uh you know, brought to them at halftime. But uh,
you know, again, we keep talking about playing four quarters,
and until we do that, uh you know, nights like
(02:50:18):
tonight are not going to be in our favor. So
we got to find a way to come out and
play from the get go.
Speaker 4 (02:50:26):
So now two and two going into a rivalry week,
what is the message to the team, what's the mo
for this week?
Speaker 14 (02:50:35):
I don't think we have to say much to them.
They know what's going to be a stake, they know
who they're going to be up against, and uh, we
just got to have a good week of preparation and
good week of practice and go over there and take
care of business.
Speaker 12 (02:50:47):
All right, Thanks coach. I appreciate.
Speaker 2 (02:50:50):
All right, thanks Coach Waddle.
Speaker 1 (02:50:51):
And you know, it's you want to come out of
this game, especially going to a rivalry week off of
a win. But this is one of those where you
learn some things from it, coach. But it's it's like, hey,
we got a game to play. It's a big one.
Speaker 3 (02:51:08):
Well I'm sure he's going to not start thinking about
pleasant week until maybe tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:51:16):
But give me, you know, we got to give him
a little bit of a break. Man.
Speaker 3 (02:51:19):
This is it's a roller coaster. Even for him to
be able to stand there and speak to us uh
on the air after.
Speaker 2 (02:51:26):
A loss like that, it takes a lot. Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:51:28):
It's a draining It's a draining thing as a coach,
especially when you lose. If you win, you still have
that adrenaline going and you're happy, but boy, if you lose,
it's uh, it's it's like you come up empty. And
UH would like to thank coach Waddell for being so gracious.
Speaker 2 (02:51:43):
Abs the loss.
Speaker 1 (02:51:44):
Absolutely Well, let's go ahead and wrap things up here,
uh because we want to get back to the studio
and uh enjoin those guys. But we thank everyone for
joining us uh here tonight at River Valley. Next week Ontario,
we'll be hosting clear Fork. We will be a pleasant
next week to watch the Spartan squad take on these
River Valley vikings. Now stick around for the scoreboard show
(02:52:05):
Racin Grayburn Bicklman. We'll cover all the area games, plus
talk about the latest in college and pro football. We'll
join the conversation when we get there again. The final
score tonight, Ontario twenty seven, River Valley fourteen. So for
coach Couzio and Scott Cameron here with me and Racelin
back at the station, I'm Eric Mosley. We say so
long and hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Good
(02:52:27):
night everyone
Speaker 8 (02:52:30):
At Ohio State Marion, we're seeing
