Back here at Pleasant High School for the Matthew Sondaktor
a high school game of the Week. And I'll tell
you what, you can cut this atmosphere with a knife.
It is such a great atmosphere for a game. Pleasant
and River Valley have just made it out to the
field and it's pretty electric out there, would you say, coach,
tell you what you see the little spartans all over

(08:47):
the place.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
We got here probably before five o'clock and down in
the end zone they had their own game going. They're
all wearing their game jerseys and no grade school kids
and there must be I don't know, thirty to forty
of them running around here. Some of them are on
the sideline as ball boys. Some of them are have
has the water. Uh man, They've got the enthusiasm going

(09:09):
right now. I'll tell you what, what what a night
to be here. Place is packed. I think some cars
are still coming in. River Valley really brought a nice
contingent with them over on the far side, and of
course Pleasant, they're down around the corner and the end
zone and all the way up the other side. This
is like a playoff atmosphere here tonight at Spartan Field.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Absolutely, Let's go down to our third member of the team, Scott. Cameron, Scott,
what's your opinion of everything down there?

Speaker 4 (09:38):
It is.

Speaker 20 (09:41):
Nation what.

Speaker 21 (09:53):
The senior classes to be a talking point for Booms
in different ways. Coach will game before first week.

Speaker 7 (10:13):
Is on, So.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
All right, we mustn't we I think we got a
bad connection with Scott because he was in and out there,
so we may have to.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
He was playing robot man. Yeah, we may have to
fix that. So Scott, if you're hearing me, we didn't
mean to cut you off, but we had to. We
didn't have a good connection. But it is electric here.
Pleasant is kicking off the River Valley. They won the
toss and deferred to the second half back for River Valley.

(10:46):
Is it's like Colton Lane Cattell and yeah, ball comes
down to number five nor Warwick. He gets across the
thirty to the thirty five up to the forty yard line.
He was an up man. Yeah, that was actually Manette
back there. He didn't get the ball though we've got
River Valley. I want to get to see who's playing
for them tonight at the offense, Snyder will be the

(11:08):
top receiver for River Valley Ebert a quarterback Jennings is
in the backfield Axe Line receiver, creps receiver Carter Park,
second leading receiver on the team, and then on the line.
These are the guys that make it happen Seller Crawford, Thorpe,
Logan and Kloa that sounds like a law firm, and
somebody that can block for some really good quarterback.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Tonight, first and ten from the River Valley forty one,
Ebert rolls to his left, now goes deep and looking
to it justin there's a big time flag. As the
wide receiver Luke axe Line got spun around. It looked
like the defensive back just hugged him.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Yeah, he was not aware that the ball was in
the air. And as when he turned around, the receiver
did a real nice job. He actually grabbed the defensive man,
but the defensive man was in his way and it
definitely was Interfaans there. So they get the penalty, get
a first down, and they moved the chains and that
was I believe number ten on the coverage there for

(12:10):
Pleasant Fogel. Kegan Fogel.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
All right, so it'll be first and ten at the
Pleasant forty four yard line. Ebert trying to get the
defense to jump off side, and they did.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Yeah, they got number forty right now, A pleasant little
rattled here, Van Buskirk, number forty jumped off sides there.
River Valley picking up an easy five, and it's going
to be first and five. River Valley come over. Looks
like they're playing a little little confidence. They're going to
try to rattle the Spartans early in this game. Absolutely so.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Now, first down in five at the pleasant thirty nine
yard line, Jennings in the backfield behind and Ebert in
shotgun four wide. Ebert goes straight back to pass, throws
it to the corner and again good coverage.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
I thought they might.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Call, we might have roughing back here. Oh there's a
flag in the backfield.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Might be a hole. Let's see personal personal foul roughing
the passer. And we've got number thirty four for River Valley.
Though that's Carter Park jumping off the field. He was
grabbing his ankle. That was number thirteen. Dylan Burns on coverage,
really pretty good coverage on that play, River Valley. The

(13:39):
difference in this week and the nice thing about being
able to see him two weeks in a row. In
comparison last week, Ontario got extremely amounts of pressure.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
So far Pleasant hasn't done that, Eric, Yeah, not at all.
So now three straight penlow, He's unpleasant. It's first and
ten at the Pleasant twenty four yard line. Ebert in
shotgun Jennings behind him, gee wide on each side, back
to pass to the Riot, cross the mill, complete and
tackled at the thirteen yard line.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
They brought the house on that one, Eric, that was
complete to Colton Lang. Yeah, Cole Bailey on the coverage
number five across the middle. Real nice quick read by
Eberd and he got rid of it quickly. They brought
about six guys on that because the first couple pass
plays they didn't bring anybody. Four guys not effective that time.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Eber did a nice job and get the ball off
Matthews Henderacker. First down for the Vikings. Its first and
ten at the Pleasant thirteen. Back to pass again, another
crossing pattern and that ball knocked away. Good coverage there
on the outside and that's number ten. Keegan Fogel knocks
the ball away, brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Yeah, a little redemption on that play. First time he
got called for interference at that time. Real nice play
reaching over the shoulder of the receiver oncoming jax Luke
GaX Line, and Luke's got a little hyighth on him.
Six to one and really nice coverage there.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Three wide to the top, one single on the right,
Jennings next to Ebert in the backfield. Ebert back to
pass now throws it to the corner of the end
zone and that boss caught touchdown Vikings.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
They found something there. They went to him three times
at that time. They took it to the house on
a great play and Luke GaX Line, jax Line, he said,
come back to me, I think I have this boy.
What a nice pass by Ebert. Really no pressure by
the Spartans, and River Valley goes up top quickly here
in the first drive with the two penalties on that,

(15:45):
but also some really nice.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Passes so on for the extra point is Hudson Pollock.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
That is up and good. So a thirteen yard touchdown
reception by Luke axe Line on that central high of
Ohio Farmers co op touchdown gives River Valley the lead
seven to nothing here in the first period. You're listening
to high school football in fourteen ninety w MRN.

Speaker 22 (16:16):
At Ohio State Marion. Whatever your path, every degree is
an Ohio State degree. Many students choose to talk to
your state journey to reach.

Speaker 20 (16:24):
The Yeah, Ohio State, I don't know spot or something.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
I don't know. Yeah, so I just wanted to check,
so I'll get it to you.

Speaker 22 (16:34):
Ilma will read the Ohio State University. Many campuses won
Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
River Valley with the kickoff comes down to Columber in
the end zone and that's a touch back. So that's
where Pleasant will take over. Pleasant down early eleven oh
two left in the first period seven to nothing, but pleasant.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Now on offense, who do we got Cochin Shaney number
fifty six, Brennan Ringer was moved to line a couple
of games ago, really enjoys it. Also plays inside linebacker.
You'll see a lot of him tonight. Owen Lowry quarterback,
Tracktenberg tight end, Bailey will be a Receiverneterheuser running back,
Fogel receiver, Columber receiver, Burns receiver, Conway is also a

(17:52):
running back. And on the line, the guys that make
it do it. We'll get to them in a second.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
First and ten for the Spartans at the twenty yard line,
two wide on each side. Now got a man in
motion back to pass, no comes up to run is
Lowry and he makes a nice gain up the middle
about eight yards, brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Yeah, and he doesn't do it without the blocking of
Murphy Young Henry. Let's see, we'll get a couple of
the other guys here. They've got like three pages of
players here. I'll tell you what. They've got a lot
of really good offensive lineman, all ringers on the line
helping out. And these guys are the ones that make it.
Happen for the pleasant Spartans.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
Second down and three for the Spartans. One back in
the backfield. That's Niederhauser next to Lowry in the shotgun.
Lowry gets it, hands it off toneder Hauser goes straight
ahead and I think he's pretty close to the first down.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
The other young man on the line was Potter. See
Kobe Potter, number seventy two, six three, two sixty. You
can't forget about him. He's one of the mainstay offensive
linemen here for the Spartans. And in a game like this,
I really think that who possesses the ball the longest time,

(19:17):
and boyd, you've got to keep the ball out of
ebers hands.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Third down, in less than one empty backfield, Lowry alone
out there, five wide. Lowry does pass it and completes
it up ahead for the Matthews hont actor at first down.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
That's the number twenty Trent Caldill. You'll hear a lot
of about him tonight. He's caught a lot of passes.
He plays defense, he has a lot of tackles. Matter
of fact, Trent coming into this game as thirty two
tackles as a defensive back, So he's a very active,
solid player.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
First and ten at the Pleasant thirty six yard line,
Spartans pick up their first first down. Two back in
the backfield, one next to Lowry, one behind him. Nieterhauser
is back there and he gets it, runs straight ahead
and does make about three yards.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
On that game, you can already see the difference in
the offensive styles. Pleasant as a team that likes to
really mix it up, whether it's Lowry or any other
running back. They have Conway and Niederhaeuser. They Rackberg's Tracktenberg.
He plays tight end also. But one of the plays
they ran in the game we saw two weeks ago

(20:33):
with at Whitehall as they ran a little jets sueek
And this time they're going to empty the backfield. Let's
see what happens.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Three receivers on the near side, two on the far side,
no backs in the backfield. Lowry awaiting the snap, has
a man in motion. That's Niederhaeuser. Now throws it out
to him on a swing pass up ahead of the
forty and tackled about the forty three forty four yard line.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Nice game there. Brings up third down. Jackson Jackson Caddill
Senior six two one seventy five was really there on
the spot and stopped him from making a first down,
real nice open field tackle.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
So brings up a third down and two. Spartan's down
seven to nothing, eight fifteen left in the first period. Again,
a great crowd here. We've got the many Spartan cheerleaders in.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
He's got to be one hundred there. There's a lot.
There are a lot, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
So Pleasant comes out with three wide receivers, a slot
who goes in motion, hand off to Niederhauser. He goes
straight ahead across the forty five up to the fifty
and that's a Matthew Sontagra first down right at midfield.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
For the Spartans will delay. There looked like Lowry was
going to roll out to the left side, and he
dropped it off to uh the running back, and boy,
I'll tell you what, they just picked a hole, picked
up a first down. The clock keeps running, the chains removed,
and the Spartans are on the march.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
And this is what the Spartans want to do. They'll
throw if they need to, but they like to run
the ball and kind of keep the defense off balance
as much as they can. First down, Lowry with one
back next to him as Niederhuser. He doesn't get it.
They fake the handoff and Lowry goes straight ahead and
is tackled for a short game.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Looks like Green was in under there. Number two, Wattle
was in there. Talk about those guys a little bit
for the Vikings. Green with twenty one tackles, Wattle with
sixty tackles coming in this game. We'll try to get
you some of the players here. Caught Ill defensive back,
Green defensive end, just made the tackles, Snyder defensive back,

(22:46):
Werwick linebacker, and Bradley defensive end. We'll get to the
rest of him here.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
In a second, second down and eight, Lowry on the backfield,
man in motion and is handed off to him. That's
Conway and he goes ahead for about four yards. Nice
game there, brings up a short third down.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Yeah, real nice care They like that little sweep there
with the running back coming around that side. The rest
of the guys playing defense for the Vikings laying a
defensive back, Kanaggie linebacker, bab number twenty five linebacker, Wattle.
He's the guy in the middle. He's the guy the
coach's son. That makes things happen. He's on a lot

(23:32):
of play Sanchez down defensive line, Bishop defensive line, and
these are the guys that rounded out. They're down in
four stack wide receivers on each side, one back in
the backfield. Now Lowry goes straight ahead, he's tackled behind
the line of scrimmage and there's a flag. I'm thinking
it might be a false start or a procedure on

(23:54):
the Spartans. Yep. Yeah, real nice played by Green coming
from that left defensive end. He was not fooled. Really
stayed at home and stayed low.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
And I would expect that River Valley is going to climb.
This brings up fourth down at the River Valley forty
six yard line. And there's a lot of penalties early
in this game for the Spartans.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Yeah, they're just a little out of sync right now.
And right now I'm just kind of getting this feeling
and imagined too. You a little bit ago off the air.
I think River Valley looks like they're the more mature team,
the more experienced team, and right now it seems like
you're playing with a little more confidence than the Spartans are.
Empty backfield, five wide receivers Lowry back to pass on

(24:39):
fourth down and he is almost sacked. He gets away,
runs to his right now throws it out. That's complete
and that is a first down.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
And that was a completion to number three Jays Tracktenberg. Yeah,
number six came in there. He had him. That was Bradley.
He had him for a sack Eric and he let
him out of the grasp and boy Lowry made something
happen and improvised, went out there and made the connection.
First down for the Spartans five point thirty eight to go.
If you're just tuning in, Viking's up seven to nothing.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Matthews Hondakra first down at the River Valley, thirty seven
yard line. Spartans are driving Lowry waiting to snap back
next to him, one in the slot in front of him,
and he hands that no, fakes the handoff and completes
it out to the rights. And I believe that was
to number thirteen, which is Dylan Burns.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Yeah, Dylan Burns really made a nice catch there on
the sideline and he's definitely a weapon. He's got a
lot of speed out there on the outside. And Spartans
are making a march, you know, One of the things
we talked with at Ralphie's on Wednesday is we talked
about Lowery's his progression since he was a freshman and man,

(25:58):
has he become a really good passer?

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Now, second down and three at the Spartans thirty one,
Niederhauser comes out of the backfield. Now Lowry tries to
take off, but he is just swallowed right away.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Looks like there's a little extracurricular Yeah, there's a flag
over there. I think that could be roughing. Yeah, they
had him down and then another guy came in a
little bit late, and I don't know, there might be
a little jawing. I can't really tell. Looks like you're
gonna call, yeah, personal foul all to the helmet. Oh,
so that is against River Valley. That's going to give

(26:32):
pleasant a first down and fifteen yards. That was targeting. Yeah,
I don't know if he's out of the game. He
didn't really signal that yet. It's like they're winding the
clock for fifty one to go right now. The Spartan
this is their game.

Speaker 21 (26:49):
They like to.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Methodical take It looks like the offense is settle down
now and they're gonna make River Valley play defense really uh,
Like we knew coming into this this was going to
be a really good, hard fought game. Matthews, Honda Actor.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
First down up ahead to the twenty yard line, deep
into River Valley territory and empty backfield, five wide, two
stack on each side. Back to passes Lowry he's looking,
throws it across the middle and intercept it in the
end zone.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
That's a great job. Number eight, that's Luke axe Line.
Really nice playing. He went to the highest point and
picked it off. I don't think the receiver really had
a chance. We just talked about Lowry being able to
place the ball in there very well, and he just
slung it down there, right down the middle and Axe Line.
What a great defensive play. So River Valley dodges a bullet,

(27:43):
so to speak, and now Spartans are going to have
to go on defense.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
And that's not a mistake you see Lowry make very often.
He's one of the league leaders in completions and also
does have very many interceptions on the season. So first
and ten at the Valley twenty yard line, Bikings taking over.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Ebert, back to pass, throws it complete and ax lineing.
He gets way up to the forty and run out
of bounds at the forty two yard line. And was
there another flag over there? No, yes, there was on

(28:32):
the sideline. While we're sorting that out, we got a
Ringer at linebacker. We've got Tracktenburg at linebacker, hamper Is
defensive back, Fogel, colin Berg defensive back, Hotel at safety,
defensive end Mensler. We really like him. He's a wrestler
and gets in there and puts a lot of fresher scouting.

(28:52):
An outside linebacker defensive line. Murphy knows young defensive tackle Henry.
These are the guys who are playing defense for the
sport Cardens and right now they're kind of on their heels.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
Eric as a late hit out of bounds. So now
Matthews Hondaker first down at the pleasant forty two yard line,
River Valley right back on the march, Jennings in the backfield,
Ebert back to pass, he throws it out.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
That's complete up ahead of the thirty twenty five twenty
breaks away fifteen ten five and touchdown Vikings. That's number
seventeen Colton Lang and now River Valley up thirteen to nothing. Yeah,
right now they have no answer they're no pressure. They
had a little bit coming in from the inside, but

(29:38):
Ebert's just sitting back in a rocking chair and they're
doing like coach says. Waddle says, We're going to do
what we do, and that's past the football. If they
give Ebert time, he's going to be able to pick
him apart. Right now, the defensive backs from a Pleasant
are step behind River Valley's offensive receivers. So that was

(29:58):
a forty yard touch down reception for lang real nice
cut back to the inside Eric and kick us up
in good. So with that extra point on the central
high Farmers co op touchdown, River Valley extends their lead
fourteen to nothing over Pleasant. We'll take a break. We'll

(30:18):
come back with more action. You're listening to high school

The Matthews Honda Akurra High School game of the week.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
The Ohio State University of Marrion kickoff. There goes into
the end zone again.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
So pleasant.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
We'll start first and ten at their own twenty yard line.
Real quick, let's go down to Scott on the sideline.
What are you seeing down there, Scott.

Speaker 20 (31:44):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 21 (31:45):
The starting sideline is little morose, kind of hanging their heads.
They look a little stunned. You know, they do get
the balls start in the second half. I know that's
a long ways away, but if they're wanting to control
the clock, they gotta go down here. And score and
continue to try and hold and maybe something will happen
the second half. So, by the way, coach Cusio, I
know I sound like a robot. You probably thought there's

(32:06):
a six album somewhere on a record player playing for you.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
Am I gonna have to get a dictionary with some
of those big words you're using so I can understand them.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
There we go, first down run there by Niederhauser and
no gain on that. So you know, Coach Pleasant had
a good drive there on offense, it was moving, they
were moving the ball well then the interception, but River
Valley just seems to have a ton of confidence right now.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
Well, the thing that obviously Pleasant's going to have to
do is they're going to just gonna have to suck
the time right out of this scoreboard up here and
get a score at the end of it and then
just play for a big break defensively. But they've got
to get back in this football game. If they are,
it's got to be on this drive.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
Lowry rolls out to his left, complete up ahead of
the twenty five and tackled right there. That can completion
is to Burns.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
Yeah, it looks like codd All's in there on the
tackle looks like twenty five's in there. That's BAB number
five I believe was in there. That's Worwick why Rick,
And you know that was a nice gang tackle out
here on the outside. Sparks pick up a few yards.
Third manageable about four and a half five yards.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
So ball is at the thirty six yard or twenty
six yard line of Pleasant. Lowry goes up under center.
One back in the backfield. Now man in motion is Burns.
Fakes the handoff, rolls to his right, complete at the sideline,
and that's enough for Matthew Sontaker first down to Dylan Burns.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Yeah, he's the missing link that wasn't here a couple
of weeks ago, and he's inserted back into the lineup,
and he's really making a difference so far with cutting
some passes on the outside. It looks like, you know,
they're trying to match up just like River Valley did
in the first drive, going at you know that left side,
this time Lowery hitting Burns again. So it looks like

(34:09):
Burns is going to continue to line up over there
on the River Valley near the River Valley sideline. So
Pleasant with the first down up to the thirty four
yard line. Take the handoff pass across the middle and
almost there it is intercepted. No, they're saying it got
hit the ground, but good defense thereby looked like Eli

(34:31):
Snyder Yeah and axe line. Yeah, he really put a
hit on Columber going across there. If the Columber would
have been able to hang on, it would have been
a sensational catch. But boy, the bar ball got jarred, loose,
and really nice defensive play for the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
So right now, Pleasant's completing a lot of out patterns
to the outside, but anything in the middle, they're really
having a hard time finding the opening man.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
Yeah, and you know the east lowery's got some time
the defen offensive line, they're only kind of rushing about
three or four guys at the most, and with the
spread offenses at the quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Oh, a fumble, but they're saying a penalty flag. I'm thinking, yeah,
he may have jumped across too soon. Yeah, So I
don't think the ball was snapped right away and that's
what caused the fumble.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Yeah, So if all start on the offense, dead ball.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
So, oh it's a dead ball if it would have
been a fumble. So again, another penalty. I'd say that's
what about the fifth penalty sixth penalty on Pleasant one
on River Valley right now? Uh so that is a
tale of the game here early two oh seven left
in the first period.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
You know, River Valley's defense really isn't playing that like
emotionally high. They're just doing playing sound defense. They just
have an air about him tonight that they're playing with
a lot of confidence over here tonight. So it'll be
second down in fifteen Trackenberg in motion. Now he reverses
back to pass his lowry, rolls to his left, looks

(36:15):
to throw it. Now he's tucking and running to the
thirty and gets tackled just past the thirty yard line,
picks up a couple of yards, and that brings up
third down. You mentioned coach that River Valley seems to
have a lot of confidence, and like we heard from
coach Waddle before the game, he said this week his
guys were very calm. They treated this like any other game.

(36:38):
And then you know coach.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Coach Westler for Pleasant, said we're embracing this. You know,
these guys are pumped up. Best week of practice. Nobody's
saying one way is right or the other's wrong, but
maybe that is a difference in how they're approaching this game.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah, and maybe they were too jacked up and that's
why they're getting some of the penalties. But a couple
of them were actually physical penalties. Interfer and so on
and so forth. But you never know. It's all about
execution in a game like this.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
Lowry back to pass in the eames, he throws it
wide of the intended receiver.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
That's number twenty three Christian Burns. They'll bring up fourth
down in punt. Yeah. I like to mention Harrison Bate
Bradley for River Valley, number six, six three two ten
defensive end. We watched him last week. I noticed it
and he's a really physical specimen going in there, putting
a lot of pressure on Lowery. He missed him once,

(37:33):
but I'll tell you what, he's constantly getting pressure and
with his high he's six ' three, he's able to
put his hands up and making it difficult for Lowry
to have any passing laden on. I wanted to mention
because he's a really fine defensive end for Revelle Caddill
back to punt and he gets a short one off
and Snyder picks it up at the forty three or

(37:53):
forty seven yard line, tackled it about the forty six.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
But they are on the Pleasant side the field. So again,
not great things happening for the Spartans right now.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
And when Snyder does that, by the way, he was
a player of the game last week on the air.
But when you do that kind of stuff, you feel
like you're feeling it. You're picking the ball up, you're
getting what you can, try to keep, try to catch
a Pleasant nappen, and it could have turned into a
really good play.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
River Valley takes over first and ten at the Pleasant
forty six. Jennings goes from the backfield into the slot.
Now a penalty flag.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
From the think from the Empire and I'm not sure
what that what that is, oh illegal substitution.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
So that moves the ball up five yards and River
Valley starting first down in five against Pleasant.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
One of the things that I'm noticing, all of the
receivers for River Valley seem like they're all taller than
all the defensive backs from Pleasant. So Hebert knows where
to throw the ball, throw it up high and let
his receivers. Evert goes deep and just through the hands
of the intended receiver. That's Axe Line brings up second down.

(39:13):
When you're up fourteen to nothing in the first quarter
and you have great field position and your defense is playing, well,
what are you gonna do. You're gonna throw it up
and go for the downs and try to go up
twenty one nothing early going into the second quarter. Right now,
River Valley is just playing so loose and playing with
so confidence. They're just throwing it up, keeping Pleasant on

(39:35):
their heels.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Second down and five for the Vikings. Under a minute left,
River Valley up fourteen to nothing over Pleasant. Man in motion,
that's Snyder, and he gets tackled in the backfield at
the forty five yard line. Good job of penetrating there

(39:58):
by the Spartans.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
Yes, sophomore Brennan van Buskerk number forty was there on
the spot defensive end and really turned him back in
so his buddies could come finish him up. But really
nice defensive end play there.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
So that wearing third down and nine for River Valley, you.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
Want to We've got a visitor here. My grandson, Nicholas
is here. My son, He's gonna sit down on the chair.

Speaker 8 (40:29):
He got the best.

Speaker 3 (40:30):
Seat in the house by his Ebert back to pass,
he gets it out complete. No, I think it was dropped. Yeah, yes,
it was dropped. Real nice defensive play. I believe that's
number ten, that's Keegan Foegel. It was the axe line. Yeah, yeah, defense,

(40:51):
yeah yeah, real nice defensive playing. Knocks it down and
forcing River Valley to punt here and try to pin
the Spartans back deep in own territory.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
So back to return is Dylan Burns to punt for
River Valley, Hudson Pollock. Pollock back at his own forty
one yard line, three seconds left in the first period.
Pollock gets the punt off, nice high kick inside the

(41:25):
ten and bounces high and is down at the four
yard line. So nice kick there by Pollock, and that
brings us to the end of the first period, and
after one River Valley has the fourteen to nothing lead
over Pleasant. We'll take a break. When we come back,
we'll have the start of the second period. You're listening
to high school football in fourteen ninety WMRN, Hello.

Speaker 4 (42:47):
The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
Back here at Pleasant High School started the second period
as Pleasant on top of riverby fourteen to nothing. Eric Moseley,
alongside coach John Couzio Scott's Cameron down on the sideline.
So first and ten at their own four yard line,
Pleasant has the ball. Lowry takes it straight ahead himself
and he is stacked up right away. I don't think

(43:18):
there was any game there. One thing I'm noticing coach
the defensive line for River Valley last week against Ontario,
and Ontario had a very big defense or offensive line,
they were struggling.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
A little bit. They are really pushing around this offensive
line of Pleasant. Yeah, and they're playing with a lot
of confidence. And I don't know, he may be inserting
some newer players in there to try to give him
a break and a page out Ontario's book last week.
But on a night like tonight, it's not extremely hot,
but it is a little muggy, and this is still
early in the game. So River Valley's defensive line is

(43:51):
trying to insert some guys in there and to keep
them fresh.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
Man in motion for Pleasant back to pass his Lowry
in his own end zone. Now he's flushed and he
throws it out incomplete, goes over the intended receiver's head,
but again, really good pressure there by the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (44:06):
Yeah, and there's the guy that I mentioned earlier, number six,
Harrison Bradley six three two ten, defensive end, and he
came clear from the backside and chase Lowry down. You
talk about somebody that's built for that position. One of
the things that I was going to mention that you
couldn't have written a better script to the start of

(44:26):
a football game than River Valley is writing right now.
Being up fourteen to nothing and playing really.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
Well, absolutely so, third down and eleven at the pleasant
three yard line, Lowry alone in the backfield, only three
men rush. Lowry throws it out and that's incomplete through
the hands of number five Cole Bailey.

Speaker 3 (44:51):
You got to make those kind of catches when you're
struggling offensively and your back is against the wall. That
catch would have given him a first down and got
him out of the shadows of their own goal posts.
So bad break for the Spartans there, and now they're
forced to punt, and looks like the punter is going
to be standing right on the end line, right near
the goalpost.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
So Cardill is back on the end line in his
own end zone. Snyder for River Valley, standing at about
the thirty eight yard line of Pleasant snap back, kick
us off. That's a nice kick, and Snyder calls for
the fair catch at about the thirty six yard line.

(45:33):
So great field position for the Vikings. First down and ten.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
Well, the Vikings are coming out in another like you say,
good field position, playing with a lot of confidence. The
Spartans have got to come up with a break here
if they want to stay in this because right now
the Vikings they're lining up. They're not waiting for the
Spartans to line up. They want to go. Ebert at
the command here with the number seven in the back

(45:58):
of Jennings. That's Jennings. He hasn't carried the ball yet,
I don't believe.

Speaker 2 (46:02):
And he goes in motion now the backfield back to
pass Ebert and he throws it away and just kind
of threw it behind all the receivers. That looked like
a full house blitz from Pleasant, and every receiver was
just streaking down the field and nobody was open.

Speaker 3 (46:20):
Yeah, last week they brought Jennings in motion to the left.
Last week they brought him to the right. And then
hit him on a swing pass down the sideline and
he made a really sensational catch for a touchdown. You're
kind of setting that up here.

Speaker 2 (46:35):
So second down and ten at the Pleasant thirty four
yard line, and well, there was a couple Pleasant players
that jumped, and then there was an offensive lineman for
River Valley that came back, so we'll see.

Speaker 3 (46:47):
Well, the guy from River Valley's a lot bigger, and
I think they could they could have seen him a
little better. That's Jackson Kloa six four five, real nice
size for an offensive tackle. The other one's Carter Logan six.
So those are pretty good bookend tackles protecting Ebert. No
wonder Pleasant can't get in there.

Speaker 2 (47:08):
Second down and fifteen back to passes Ebert, he's rushed,
finds a man down field and is oh wow. So
he overthrew him by about ten yards. But the receiver
got tripped and they're calling past interference.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
I don't know if that was a catchable ball. Coach, Well,
in the infamous words of Steve, spurry or keep throwing
it because something's gonna happen good, And that time they're
just counting on either the receiver catching the ball or
I think they feel a mismatch. They feel like they
have the advantage with the offensive receivers over the defensive backs.

(47:46):
And the backs are right now really struggling to keep up.

Speaker 2 (47:50):
So it'll be first down and ten Matthew tandakor first
down at the River Pleasant twenty four yard line.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
So River Valley on the move again. Man in motion
is Snyder from left to right, hand off to Jennings
and he gets buried in the backfield. I mean he
just kind of ducked so he wouldn't get killed. Yeah,
that's Tractenberg and uh and let's see, he's our number

(48:28):
forty was in there. Also made a real nice play.
He's a sophomore. Renn and Van Busker six foot one
ninety defensive end. They were really on the spot. Big
play for the Spartan.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
So loss on the play makes it second and fourteen,
and now Pleasant jumps off side.

Speaker 3 (48:45):
I'm gonna give it back to him right now, can't.
You can't do that when you're down. You've gotta be
u watching the football, don't listen to anything. And it
does seem to me like like Pleasant is just so
hyped up. I'm just trying too hard out seeing. If
you look at the demeanor of River Valley, you know
the team, you could tell who's ahead. They're just playing

(49:06):
with confidence. They're methodical about getting their calls from the sideline.
They've got to see senior quarterback out there leading them.
They've got a nice offensive line protection and just he's
just sitting back there.

Speaker 2 (49:20):
Second down and nine back to pass is Ebert. He
slings it out complete like that's up to head to Lang.
I believe that's another Matthews Hondaker first down at the
eleven yard line.

Speaker 3 (49:33):
I really like the way the receivers are catching the
football in their hands. They're not letting the ball come
into their body. Uh. You know, he's making a nice
outcut and right as the uh he's getting ready to
get hit, he gets it out. Looks like we have
a player down running Van busk and Buskirk sophomore for
pleasant down in the backfield. He's kind of grabbing his knee.

(49:55):
But yeah, you're right, coach.

Speaker 2 (49:56):
It's very very Uh the patterns that that River Valley
is running very crisp, very open, and I'm very impressed
by how they're moving the ball. Scott, you're down there,
what are you seeing out of this River Valley offense. Yeah,

(50:23):
I think Scott hasn't paid his cell phone bill. He
doesn't have to wear a jacket to Yeah, it's a
little warm, but but these guys, you know, like you said, coach,
River Valley's offense very precise, very much a a well

(50:43):
oiled machine. And last week we saw them try to
run the ball. They weren't able to run the ball
against Ontario. Tonight they've they've really not even tried to
run the ball. It's been and it hasn't even been
short passes like the long handoffs, the swing passed out
of the backfield. They've been going downfield hot and heavy.

Speaker 3 (51:02):
Yeah. They I was just going to say, you know,
we talked about last year when we saw Ebert play
a few times. You know, when he got in trouble,
he could run the football and he could make things happen,
pick up that first down, move the chains. Right now,
in this game, in particular, the second time we've seen him,
he doesn't even have to even think about because he's
got that receiver looking at him, and he's smart enough

(51:24):
that if he's going to get hit and he's out
of the pocket, he throws it away, So he's not
even looking to, you know, run the football, but you know,
doesn't mean he won't when he has to. So we're
still kind of taking a look at the young man
that's down.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
And yeah, let's okay, let's go ahead and take a
commercial break. We've got ten oh nine left until halftime
here at Pleasant High School and River Valley is on

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 3 (56:02):
Pass into the end zone and that's a touchdown for
the Vikings. I believe is that Eli sniper? No, that's
Colton Lang, coldon Lang real nice pass, bitch and catch.
You know, after something like that, you know you'd think, Okay,
these guys are gonna really spark up and play for
their teammates that you know is out of the game

(56:25):
now and they had to take them off, but they
were napping and River Valley wasted no time first play.
They threw it up and check it out and they're
up twenty to nothing. If you're just tuned in nine
point fifty four, we got a long way to go
in a second quarter. Eric, So extra point try by Pollock.

(56:47):
I never in a million years thought this would be
this kind of game so far, and extra point is good.

Speaker 2 (56:53):
So after the ten yard touchdown reception by Lang for
the Central Ohio Farmers co Op touchdown and that makes
the score River Valley twenty one Pleasant nothing. We'll try
to get down to Scott now and see if he
knows what happened down there. Scott, are you available? I

(57:17):
think Scott lost his signal completely.

Speaker 3 (57:19):
But we did have.

Speaker 2 (57:22):
A player down for Pleasant and that was Van Buskirk.
They took him off the field. Don't know what kind
of injury it was, but it was definitely something that
you don't want to see. And it just feels like
right now, Pleasant just kind of feels deflated.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
Yeah, they've got their backs against the wall and you
know this drive right here, we keep saying, but they've
got to do something positive here. I mean, I never,
like I said a little bit ago, never in a
million years would have thought that it was going to
be this kind of a game. I thought it was
going to be both teams up and down the field,
and maybe it may turn into that. But right now,

(58:05):
the Spartans have to get it started here on this
particular drive, ball kicked out of the end zone, So
Spartans will get it first and ten on their own
twenty and coach, when you've coached in games like this
where it's just been kind of one sided after the
first quarter, what have you done in the past to
try to refocus your offense a little bit. Well, I

(58:26):
think it's just a matter of execution for pleasant. I
think the offensive line has got to give Lowry just
a little bit more time and it's a collective unit
that has to do that. And receivers, you know, dropped
a couple of balls it looked like they were catchable
when in course Lowry's got to put the ball a
little bit better on target. You know, it's just basically

(58:46):
play play a little bit better and definitely no penalties.
First and ten for the Spartans.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
Play action passes complete and taken away or getting away,
and that burns up ahead.

Speaker 3 (59:01):
Looks like up to about the thirty one yard line.
That makes it, Matthew sondiaker a first down for the Spartans. Yeah,
they looks like they've been working on that play all summer.
He basically there was basically one read he was gonna
go down and turn it to the outside, and that
ball was in the air as he's making his cut.
Very good pass and that's that's the start of what

(59:24):
needs to happen here for the Spartans.

Speaker 2 (59:26):
First down and ten for the Spartans at their own
thirty one Lowry steps up. Now he completes a pass
to the thirty five and up ahead to the thirty seven.
That's Caddell with reception. Makes it a nice manageable second down.

Speaker 3 (59:42):
So what they're doing is they when they snap the
ball to Lowery, he's taking like a jab step up
like he's gonna run, and the defense has to respect that.
They get their hands down like they're gonna come in
and make a tackle. And then he immediately stands up
and releases the football. Picked up a real nice game
to Cardell about leave with about second, about four yards
to go.

Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
No backs in the backfield with Lowry. Now man in
motion is Niederhouser.

Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
He gets a handoff, slips and then he has tackled
for a loss of about three Well, Waddle made the tackle,
but it doesn't happen unless Green on the outside defensive
end turns him in. Real nice defensive play by Green.
And you know when we saw that play against Whitehall
a couple of weeks ago, they were picking up big

(01:00:33):
chunks of yardies on that jet sweep, and that time
Green turned in made it really easy for Wattle to
make the tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
Third down and six for the Spartans Lowry back to pass.
He's looking now he's rushed and I think he's gonna
get sacked.

Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
He does. There's Green again. Wow, he came to play today.
Really like his excitement coming from the out and not
only did he turn him in, but he made the
tackle by himself. And he is really fired up.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
All the way back at the twenty four yard line.
So Pleasant really can't even afford to try to go
for it on fourth down there forced a punt, so
Snyder back for the Vikings and called.

Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
Ill with the punt.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
Snyder gets it and goes across the fifty to the
forty five and he's tackled at the forty eight. A
penalty flag comes down and I think he waved. He
waved fair catch and then he took off.

Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
Yeah, tackled by Moore. Harrison Moore, number four, who came
in as a defensive substitute in the last series, made
a real fine open field tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Oh that wasn't a penalty flag. That was a ball
marker they threw down there. So Snyder able to get
it up to the Pleasant forty eight yard line. And
it feels like pretty much all night so far. River
Valley has started their drives in Pleasant territory.

Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
And they got the ball bag out today before the
game and they kept throwing and they're still continuing to throw.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Back to pass is Ebert boy, he goes deep and
now he just throws it away and there's.

Speaker 3 (01:02:26):
An almost got called for a late hit that was
Menser in there on him. I do think that Ebert
he may may have gotten an Academy award there for
the flop. Yeah, but and that's somebody right now.

Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
Sam Menzer, he's a disruptor in the backfield and he's
been very quiet tonight. But I think that's just because
River Valley's getting rid of the ball really fast.

Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
Well, he's making good read ebert is and receivers are looking.
They see people coming on the blitz and they're looking
and their Ebert is hitting him with quick short passes.

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Ebert back to pass, he's kind of winding up. Now
he's telling him to go deep. He moves back to
his own thirty five.

Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Now just throws it out of bounds again and now
there's a penalty flag and that might be roughing the
passer that are holding. Yeah, he was back there for
a while. Yet it is a hold yeah, I've never
seen a situation where they have basically told him to
when he drops back, he could go back twenty yards
and just throw it away, because really, Eric, third and

(01:03:28):
ten is nothing for them. No it's not. It's it's
like it's like third and two to a running team.
So this time it's going to be second and twenty.
At least.

Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
Seven twenty nine left until halftime in River Valley has
controlled the ball pretty much the whole first half.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
Thanks man.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Mike Lindsay up here taking care of us as he
always does.

Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
So.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Second down and twenty Ebert back to pass now. He
swings it out to Jennings up ahead to the forty
five and he gets through to the fifty cuts another
tackle forty for thirty five thirty and out of bounds
up ahead to the twenty five yard line. A huge
pickup there for River Valley, and that's another Matthew's Honda Actor.

Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
First down for the Viking. He had great play by
Jennings and took Ringer inside linebacker from behind on a
pursuit drill and caught. He made the tackle, it would
have been a touchdown. Ebert back to pass now. He
looks to his right rolls right and throws it out
of bounds. You're seeing Ebert tonight not making bad decisions

(01:04:37):
at all. Yeah, Like I said, second ten, third and
ten is nothing, and that case was a second and twenty.
And he picked up the first down on that nice
run by Jennings. And you know, I'll tell you what.
He catches that swing pass out in the open field
and he gets ahead of Steam going.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
He's hard to bring down. Some scores in the area
right now. Shelby up over Galliyon fourteen to nothing, Mohawk
over Becyrus twenty eight to nothing, Senecy East and Carrie
tied at fourteen. Or Banna up over North Union fourteen
to nothing. Ebert steps up now, he goes back, throws
it out complete to Snyder.

Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Up ahead to about the fifteen. He gets away from
two tacklers down the sideline and just short of the
end zone. But it's another Matthew's Hondactra first down at
the five yard line. Yeah, real nice catch by Snyder
once again catching his hand. Scout came up, tried to
make a tackle. He chuk him off and went down
and got a lot of yards after catch and a

(01:05:38):
lot of yak yards. So to speak, Eric and River
Valley right now. Just you know what can we say?
Just looking like the dominant team. You got to give
him credit. They're playing very very well. Bursting goal for
the Viakings.

Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
Ebert back to pass, crossing pattern and incomplete no one there,
and that brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (01:05:56):
Yeah, it looks like Tracktenberg coming from the backside. Ebert
didn't see him coming. He tried to get it off,
got it off at ball sailed just as he was
getting hit by Trachtenberg. One of a few times the
whole night Ebert's been hit.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Elgin and Corey rosson right now, tied at zero, Northmore
up over Danville twenty seven to nothing, Highland Overhearding fourteen
to nothing. In the second quarter, I'll give you had
six Fredericktown nothing and East Knox twenty eight, Cartington Lincoln six.

(01:06:32):
Second down in goal for the Vikings. The man in
motion left to right as Snyder flag and I believe
it's delay a game, so that'll move the Vikings back
five yards.

Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
Looks like they were gonna flood the zone. They had
already three receivers to that side, and they brought Snyder
to that side. They were just gonna flood it and
outnumber the Spartan defensive backs. And it was going to
be a quick pass because Ebert was ready to throw
it as soon as the whistle blew, and he caught
the ball when he was ready to launch it out there,

(01:07:06):
same formation, trips to the right and twins to the left.
Ebert looks right, flushed from the pocket, throws it into
the corner and that's caught, and that's a touchdown River Valley.
You don't see it. Better throw and a better catch.
A catch was pretty good, but to throw was even better.
Eric He threw it right over the defensive back shoulder,

(01:07:27):
and great concentration by Snyder there to haul it in.
Spartans or Vikings right now are having their way with
the Spartans. Twenty seven to nothing, six forty nine to go,
and Pollock ready to line up. I think he's about
fifteen for fifteen on the year extra points and he's
ready to attempt his sixteenth extra point.

Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
So a five yard touchdown reception by Snyder and that
makes the score twenty seven to nothing. Extra point is
up and that is good. So Snyder with the Central
Highwa Farmers co op touchdown and the extra point by

(01:08:13):
Pollock and River Valley kind of doing what Ontario did
to them in the first half. Now up twenty eight
to nothing over Pleasant. Scott, what is the mood like
down there on the sideline?

Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
I did not Yeah, I did get a text from him. Yeah,
so Scott, it's still I'm talking to you right now.
Your your bars must not be very good down there, yeah,
he says. He goes from three bars to zero, back
and forth. He says, it's happening to the photographer too.
How does it affect a camera to only have three bars?

Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
I don't know. Yeah, that's interesting. We will keep trying, Scott, though.
This is the magic of Hey text has a report
and we'll read it on the Yeah, yeah, we'll try that.
But I'm definitely curious what the mood is like now
on that Pleasant sideline, because it is I mean, it
just looks from here like shell shock and and and

(01:09:17):
not surprising, that's for sure. Kickoff does come down into
the end zone, so no return for the Spartans, and
that's definitely a game planned tonight by River Valley too.
They know that Pleasant has dangerous return game and they're
kicking everything into the end zone.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
So that Pleasant cannot use that. Well, Pleasant's got to
go back to work with six forty nine to go.
And uh, you know, there's some pretty good ball games
in the area. If you're not out one and you're
in the in a near a stadium, you know, go
out and watch the second half of some of these games.
You know. Spartans have an opportunity here to shorten this

(01:09:56):
this lead, but they've got to do something offense. And
once again, it seems like every time they get the
ball it's inside their own twenty yard line.

Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
First and ten at their own twenty yard line. Now,
three wide receivers on the near side, one.

Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
In the slot. Lowry rolls to his right.

Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
He's looking, he's getting chased from behind, he's tackled from behind.

Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
And a big sack there by River Valley. And it
looks like number fifteen would be manette for River Valley.
And there's the guy number six Bradley Addison bab too,
Yeah and bab and six three two ten defensive end.
I tell you I noticed him last week against Ontario,
and you're really noticinging tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
Yeah, that's a huge loss. Now, second and fifteen.

Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Number fifteen also was a returner on the kickoff, so
he must have some pretty good speed.

Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
So ball is at the pleasant fifteen yard line and
now a penalty flag and I think delay a game,
so that's going to move him back again.

Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
I haven't mentioned this guy, number fifty one for River Valley,
JJ Walton. He's a junior sixty two two sixty five
and I'm not sure how much he played last week,
but boy, I'll tell you what. He's in there tonight
and he's putting a lot of pressure on Lowry, putting
his hands up and with his size, he's really causing

(01:11:31):
a lot of problems for Lowry.

Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
Second down and twenty for the Spartans back to passes.
Lowry steps up. Now he goes through and he's sacked again.
And this is like Coach Westler told me when I
asked about Lowry being.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
Able to show off his arm.

Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
He said, I hope we're not to that point in
a game, but right now they are at that point.

Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
Well, I'll tell you what. Bradley defensive end. We've talked
about him several times on that tackle again, he must
like his name on the radio because right now he's
been on a lot, making a lot of plays. Out
there and just really enjoy watching these good players play.

Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
They're down in twenty one. Ball is on the nine
yard line of Pleasant Lowry three step drop, steps up,
He's going to take off across the fifteen up to
the twenty and he gets hits almost back to the
original line of scrimmage, call it the nineteen yard line.

(01:12:33):
Pleasant forced to punt.

Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
The first guy that made contact was Manette, but Wattall
was thereay to clean it up. And real nice open
field tackle by those two guys, and Spartans are forced
again to be in punt formation and the Snyder standing
at the fifty yard line, and once again River Valley's

(01:12:56):
going to get great field position. With four to twenty
seven to go in the clock running second quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
Caldell right in front of his end zone, gets the
pun offf nice kick and Snyder waves fair catch and
takes it just in front of the fifty yard line
at about the forty eight. That's where the Vikings take
over first and ten. So guess what they're gonna do, Eric,
What do you think they're gonna do? I think they're
probably going to pass the ball. And you know, we

(01:13:25):
haven't even seen Ebert have to run much tonight, and
it's it's fair to mention that Ebert one of the
top rushers in the MOAC this season. He didn't it
wasn't able to run the ball much last week and
tonight he hasn't had to. So first and ten for
the Vikings, well, I think they go backs in the backfield.

Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
They've elected to keep him in the pocket, and then
when he gets flushed, he just goes straight back and
launches it in the side on the sideline, and I
don't think he's going to really try to run the
ball much.

Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
River Valley taking their time back to pass, slings it
out and that is incomplete, just out of the reach
of the intended receiver. I believe that was axe line No.

Speaker 3 (01:14:10):
Number ten. Yeah, a little bit of pressure there by
number of Jade McCullough, Yeah, number twenty one, Brody Ringer, freshman,
that's Brennan's brother. It's like you're trying something else. Put
a fresher guy in there, a defensive end. See if
he can get some pressure on him back to pass.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
Ebert, he throws it out. That's just over the head
of Snyders so brings up a third down in ten.

Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
Yeah, a little bit of pressure from the inside that time,
and let's see he's got to turn his back. Number
fifty nine for the Spartans once again. No, don't have
him listed. Sorry about that, young man. It's you're not
in on the sheet here tonight. We'll try to find

(01:14:56):
out who you are.

Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
So third down and ten for the Vikings, and now
a time out taken by Pleasant, So we'll go ahead
and take one as well. Five or four oh nine
until halftime. River Valley on top twenty twenty eight to
nothing over Pleasant. You're listening to high school football on
fourteen ninety WMRN.

The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Completion up ahead or a first down and that was
two logan craps up ahead to the thirty nine. That's
Matthew's Honda Aker first down. River Valley hurries up. Ebert
steps into the pocket and he is sacked. Looks like
a loss of about two there. And I think we've
got some things fixed with Scott.

Speaker 3 (01:16:44):
Scott, what do you got to tell us?

Speaker 20 (01:16:46):
Can you hear it now?

Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
I can hear you now?

Speaker 21 (01:16:48):
Oh man, I feel like it's one of the it
should be a commercial. Well you know, really, guys, honestly,
pleasant's really frustrated. They're trying not to take out their
frustration on each other, but yet motivate each other. And
River Valley this is just an extension of what happened
last week. They really kind of won a second half
against Ontario. So they just kind of kept coming in
and I just kept rolling in that momentum, and that's

(01:17:10):
what they'd just been taking at pleasant the first half.
Using that momentum. They're just confident, like Coach has been.

Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
Saying, yeah, they I was thinking the same thing, and Scott,
I want to keep it with you because I wanted
to see if you had gotten a look at the
injury that had happened on the field, if the young
man was okay, and what you could see.

Speaker 21 (01:17:30):
Well, the photographer was staying next to me, we're actually
talking about our connection issues that and and it definitely
looked like it was knee or below and so I
was like, hey, can you kind of look in there
and see and she said, I don't see any bone
sticking out or anything like that.

Speaker 20 (01:17:46):
So it could be some sort of partlage issue or.

Speaker 21 (01:17:49):
You know, maybe a fractured leg or something like that,
but nothing really has been said, but it was definitely
a lower leg of the left.

Speaker 3 (01:17:58):
All right, Thank you, Scott.

Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
And you know, coach Scott mentioned how it's almost like
an extension of the second half last week for River Valley,
and I was kind of thinking the same thing. River
Valley turned things around in that second half. It was
just a little bit too late, but very much the
same demeanor here.

Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
Well, I'll tell you what were you going to make
the call here on this? So a deep pass complete
and that's the axe line, and that's a Matthew Sondaaker
first down at the oh they're saying it's incomplete. So
he did catch it, but he just didn't get both

(01:18:37):
feet down. Well, what I was going to say is, sometimes,
you know, this is the fifth game this season, and
it depends on who you played before you play this game.
And we mentioned all along that River Valley's had a
real tough schedule being uh two and two coming into
this game and Pleasants three and one. I mean, that's

(01:18:59):
just one more than the other one. And it just
depends on maybe who who Pleasant has played and you know,
and how they're playing, and and I'll tell you right now,
River Valley definitely looks like the dominant team obviously. Third
down and thirteen, River Valley at the Pleasant forty two
to thirty two to twenty two left deep passed down

(01:19:20):
the sideline and that is off the hands intended for
Logan creps Eber just sat back in the rocking chair
and launched it down. He was at least five yards
beyond the defensive back over on that sideline. Very nice
pass there, So it's gonna be h was it? Fourth?

(01:19:45):
They're gonna go ahead and punt the ball and pin
him back real smart. You could get greedy here and
try to pick up a first down, but you know
they're up twenty eight to nothing, three sixteen to go
and a half. They pin the Spartans back and make
him try to drive you know, eighty yards or less
than maybe ninety ninety yards with Burns being back on
his ten yard.

Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
Line, so Pollock doesn't get a great pun off. It
comes down at about the twelve, rolls back to the
fifteen and that's where it'll be down. But it was
good enough to still pin pleasant back again. We have
three or five left until halftime. River Valley up twenty

(01:20:27):
eight to nothing. When we go into halftime, we will
we'll take a break, and when we come back from
that break, we'll talk about the first half, scoring scores
in the area, and then questions for Coach, our little
weekly semi formal segment that challenges me every week with
something to come up with. I've had to look through

(01:20:49):
my past ones to make sure I'm not asking a
question that we have already done.

Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
I get challenged every week to come up with something
to answer your question.

Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
So, okay, you know we're even there. There we go,
first and ten ball is at the Pleasant seventeen yard line,
man in motion, Lowry back to pass. He throws it
to the man in motion. That's complete and up ahead
to the twenty nine yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
It's like track him. That was Neerhauser Hauser and tackled
by Caddale Jackson Caddell on the on the stop. But
Pleasant picks up a timely first down they desperately needed.

Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
Matthews Honda actor a first down up ahead to the
thirty yard line. Clock is running to forty four left
in the half, no backs in the backfield, Lowry all
alone waiting for the snap. He gets it, steps up

(01:21:49):
and swings it out. That's complete, up ahead to Niederhuser
to the forty and is tackled out of bounds at
the forty three yard line. So that's another mat Juice
Hondak for first down.

Speaker 3 (01:22:01):
Yeah, I really like Peter Houser coming across on the
back side. There and Lowry was very patient with him
and he watched him all the way across and hitt
him as a really nice catch. The ball was nice
and low, but real nice catch. Now they're first down
for the Spartans.

Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
To seven and counting until halftime. First and ten for
the Spartans at the year their own forty three yard line.
Lowry is passing. He steps up, scrambles to his right,
completes it. I believe that's to.

Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
Colin Burg.

Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
So complete about six yards. Brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
Yeah, waterway over there, making the tackle on the sideline.
The thing that the defense has got to try to
do is keep him in bounds. The offense has got
to try to get out of bounds and stop the clock.
See the clock kept running.

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
About a minute and a half left until halftime. Spartan's
about to midfield back to passes. Lowry's got and some
pressure and he is trying to get away. He does
and just goes through Neederhauser's hands. That was a really
tough pass to make with the quarterback under duress.

Speaker 3 (01:23:12):
And the duress was brought again by number two. That's Green,
Ryan Green, six foot oneint eighty defensive end. What a
stout young man coming here on this left side, putting
a lot of pressure right in Lowry's face, and Lowry
was lucky to get that one off. The one good
thing it does stop the clock with a minute twenty
two left, third down and six for the Spartans. That's

(01:23:36):
just trying to get something going right before halftime. Pleasant
will get the ball first in the second half. Lowry
back to pass, steps up now, he takes it down
field deep and oh, just through the hands. That should
have been caught in complete to Dylan Burns. Ye, if

(01:23:57):
there was a football that needed to be caught, that
was that one right there.

Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
I mean, he had a good two steps on the
defender and I don't think that Lowry could have put
it in a better position.

Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
Yeah. I thought there was a little bit of hand
fighting about twenty five yards down the field, but Burns
did a great job to get away from him and
reached his arms out and just couldn't hold on to it.

Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
So it's fourth down, six yards to go, and looks
like Pleasant's going to take the clock down a little
bit and call a time out with one sixteen left
in the first half. And Spartan's just like we said,

(01:24:42):
just trying to get something going here on offense and
the defense you know, has shown some flashes at moments,
but with a spread offense sometimes it's just it gets
you going in so many directions. It's so difficult to
really defend.

Speaker 3 (01:24:59):
Yeah, right now, you know, we talk about this all
the time. A team that's behind, especially the way the
Spartans are, you gotta almost play perfect the rest of
the way.

Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
Absolutely, let's go ahead and do some more score updates halftime.
Shelby is up over Gallion twenty to nothing. Upper Sandusky seventeen,
Winford seven, Mohawk forty two, b Cyrus nothing, Sineke, Easton
Carry now tied at twenty one. Urbana up over North

(01:25:29):
Union fourteen to nothing. East Knocks forty one, Cartington's six.
Colonel Crawford is up forty four to nothing over Buckeye
Central at the half, Centerberg thirty five, Loudonville nothing, Northmore
thirty four to nothing over Danville Highland up twenty one
to seven Overhearding and Frederick Town fourteen. Mount Gillia twelve.

(01:25:55):
Fourth down for the Spartans. Lowry back to pass, He
goes across the mill, just throws it right over the
head looked like you had two layers of coverage across
the middle.

Speaker 21 (01:26:05):
There.

Speaker 3 (01:26:05):
It was a tight window to try to fit it in. Yeah,
the man was open, but the ball was just overthrown
and that was would have been a very difficult ball
to catch. Obviously overthrowing even if he got it down
Eric it was very very tight. But Spartans come up
empty with one to eleven to go, and River Valley it

(01:26:26):
has the ball, and that's plenty of time for them.
But where the ball is sitting on there looks like
the Spartan forty eight.

Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
And don't expect them to slow down. You score again
before halftime, that will bring in the running clock in
the second half. And that's where pleasant or River Valley
wants to be back to pass Ebert and he goes
deep downfield and ball is incomplete. I think it looked

(01:26:53):
like axe line trying to get the past interference, but
that ball was kind of thrown out of bounds. I
think he even if he had been able to catch it,
it would have been out of bounds and incomplete.

Speaker 3 (01:27:05):
That was pretty good coverage by colinber on the outside,
forcing him to go on out of bounds. And now
the Vikings are fourth with ten.

Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
Nobody in the backfield with Ebert. Now Ebert looks to
the sideline. Play clock down to seven. Ebert with the
ball throws across the mill complete up ahead to the
thirty five and down at the thirty yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:27:35):
That's Matthew Tondaker.

Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
First down complete to McCullough and they're quickly to the line.

Speaker 3 (01:27:42):
This looks like seven on seven in the summer. Eric
Ebert sitting back here. You notice the difference in Ebert
as far as Ebert throwing the ball in Lowery. Lowery
is basically having guys in his face throwing the football.
Ebert is standing back there now with virtually no pash
and just picking out the open man and has great

(01:28:04):
touch on the football tonight. So Ebert clocks it, brings
up second down at the pleasant thirty one yard line.
Fifty five seconds left until halftime. Ebert smacks his hands,
now looks at the sideline.

Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
Blake clock is down to five four. Now snap is
back and time out by River Valley. It looks like
coach Waddle is out there.

Speaker 3 (01:28:35):
Going, what are you doing? Man? You need to be
snapping the ball. Well, there's one of these times where
you're up twenty eight to nothing, and he knows that
they get a touchdown here, Hey, that's gonna really put
a lot of pressure. The clock's going to be running
continuously starting in the second half, and he doesn't want

(01:28:56):
to sit on this. And I know at halftime he's
going to be probably barking at him for that mistake
right there, and he doesn't want the team to let
down because the Spartans could come back at any minute
with Lowry and company and no letdowns at this point.
We mentioned before the game.

Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
I watched River Valley come out when the bus got here,
and they walked across a field, nobody talking, very just
and it wasn't you know, you sometimes you see that
that put on like toughness. They were just calm, like
that's what it was. They just looked calm, wasn't stressed.
And you can just see in the way they're playing

(01:29:37):
right now. Second down and ten, Hebert back to pass.
Now he looks to his rise flushed and he does
get it out there complete up ahead to about the
twenty nine yard line and that's to Creps. So bring
up a third down.

Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
That was number ten. That was McCullough, Eric number ten
for River Valley five to ten. I think coach mentioned
him the time that he's come up big forum this year.
We want to get him recognition.

Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
They're down in seven for the Vikings. Forty eight seconds
left until halftime. Play clock is down to five. Eberts
gets the ball, he's looking, throws it out. That's complete
at the first down marker and that is to Creps

(01:30:38):
and that's Matthews Hontaker first down at the twenty yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:30:43):
Yeah, he's just sitting back there when he makes the cut.
The balls in the air and no pressure on Ebert
at this point in time. Forty three seconds is a
lifetime for River Valley in this situation.

Speaker 2 (01:30:55):
Well, you have to figure with a kicker like Collick,
they feel confident that they at least get three right,
Ebert steps back in the pocket, throws it underneath and
that is just a little shortened out of bounds.

Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
And he basically just flicked that ball with his wrist.
He was going to throw it the first time, and
the guy wasn't looking, and he made the break and
he just flicked it out there. He was getting a
little pressure. I actually thought he was throwing it away,
but actually got so close to him. He almost had
a chance to make the catch. And this is where
he hasn't gone over here to this side where they're

(01:31:32):
in single coverage out here.

Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
Well, and that's where Axe Line is, so it'll be
interesting to see.

Speaker 3 (01:31:41):
What they do here.

Speaker 2 (01:31:42):
He looks that way now, looking across the mill, throws
it and that's complete for the touchdown to Colton Lang,
his third touchdown of the night.

Speaker 3 (01:31:54):
It's just like seven on seven in the summer. Man.
He's sitting back there, calm as a cucumber, and the
defensive backs just cannot cover those guys. And like we said,
he spreads it around to several guys, several guys with
catches this year. We've got Jennings has some catches from

(01:32:16):
out of the backfield. Eli Snyder thirty two receptions. Carter Park.
Where's he been? He may be injured, he has He
was injured early in the game, so he hasn't caught him.
But he has twenty three Luke Axe Line, six Craps
has a bunch of catches. McCullough. They've got six or
seven guys they can go to at anytime. The snap
was bad and double clutch, but you know your night's

(01:32:37):
going well when you're still able to make the extra points.
So that extra point is good and that extends the
lead to pleasant or excuse me, River Valley thirty five pleasant. Nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
We'll keep it right here for the kickoff, and of
all the things that we thought we would see tonight,
I don't even think this entered our mind.

Speaker 3 (01:32:59):
Coach, Hey, before we go on here, I like to
give a little shout out. We got my two grandsons,
excuse me, made it up to the press boxes packed off.
That's Jack and Nico Kuzi. Oh, and my son John
came up, Nicholas, my son came up, John. And we're
happy to see them tonight and enjoy the football game.

(01:33:19):
They may not be enjoying it too much because they're sparking.

Speaker 11 (01:33:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
I just want to say they're still young enough not
to get as affected as some of us older people.

Speaker 3 (01:33:27):
Sometimes they've got the best seat in the house sitting
up here on the fifty yard line. Does this make
your grandpa pretty cool? Eah? They're just kind of shrugging. Well,
we're gonna go get to see them play soccer and
football tomorrow. Ray, Jack, Nicholas. There you go. So the
kick off.

Speaker 2 (01:33:47):
Goes into the end zone and that'll be a touchback
cure meat, so Pleasant will take over. Thirty one seconds
left and ball is at the twenty yard line. Did

(01:34:11):
you just introduce John Scott? Did you wash your hands? Afterwards?

Speaker 3 (01:34:19):
John said he's got a Cody canbarn. Okay, that's good.

Speaker 2 (01:34:22):
Well, and there's a chance, I saw the forecast that
might be the only day we get rain. And that's
not good for us because we're at River Falons. I'll
sit in it at this point. First and ten Peterhauser
with a carry, nice carry there for about seven yards,
and I think I think coach Westler just wants to

(01:34:46):
get in at halftime. He's going to let this clock
run down. Not doing anything heroic right now. You don't
want to throw it, and looks like that's how we
will end the first half. First half dominated by River
Valley and the score thirty five to nothing. River Valley

(01:35:10):
over Pleasant. So we'll take a break. When we come back,
we'll go over the first half scoring and scores in
the area again the Matthews Hontakra High School Game of
the Week. River Valley over Pleasant. Right now at halftime
thirty five to nothing, you're listening to high school football

Week back here at Pleasant High School halftime as the
visiting Vikings up on top over Pleasant thirty five to nothing.
Let's go through the first half scoring and it's all

(01:41:55):
River Valley. At the eleven oh two mark of the
first period, thirteen yard touchdown reception to Axe Line Pat
is good. River Valley was up seven to nothing. Then
about seven minutes later, a forty yard touchdown reception by
Colton Lang.

Speaker 3 (01:42:16):
And pat was good.

Speaker 2 (01:42:18):
River Valley was up fourteen to nothing. Second quarter, at
the nine to fifty four mark, ten yard touchdown reception
by Lang, another good pat by Pollock made the score
twenty one to nothing. About three minutes later, River Valley
drove back down a five yard touchdown reception by Eli Snyder.

(01:42:38):
Another good extra point. Now the score was twenty eight
to nothing. And then with under a minute left and
River Valley takes advantage of twenty yard touchdown reception by
Lang and the pat was good. That's where we're at now,
thirty five to nothing. As Chase Ebert with five first

(01:43:02):
half touchdowns not something that you see very often, but
it's something that River Valley seems to do a lot of,
is score touchdowns in bunches. So we got Scott up
here in the booth with us right now, I got
to unmute you or turn you out out there you go. So,
I know it's frustrating, and we we have a lot

(01:43:24):
of good equipment, but sometimes we just have to go
old school and use phones. There's so many people here, right,
It's just it's it's messing with signals. We're very fortunate
to have a good signal up here in the box
and you want a big crowd here, but it's it's
affected us.

Speaker 3 (01:43:39):
But Scott, you're hanging in there. We appreciate it.

Speaker 21 (01:43:42):
Yeah, you know, it's anyone who's ever been to in
Ohio state football game or anything like that and you're
trying to text someone or something like that. They're just
the mass amount of people trying to use that data.
So that's a good thing, right, Yeah, that there's a
lot of people here and that's great for pleasant, great
for River Valley, greatful to players, I mean for cheerleaders,
grateful to band all stuff.

Speaker 20 (01:44:03):
That's just not good for me in my position.

Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
Yeah, unfortunately, I don't want to hear me. Maybe it's
good for that.

Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
Yeah, there's if we might have had a whole bunch,
there's probably calls being made like, hey, he's not on
the air.

Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
So now you can listen. Yeah, now you can finally
hear Hi, Dad.

Speaker 2 (01:44:19):
But we are glad that you're up here to join us,
and you know you you had reached out to me today.
One of the things we like doing here on our
broadcast is recognizing players coaches that make a difference. And
we know that the coaches are important. And there's somebody
that you wanted to talk about tonight, right.

Speaker 21 (01:44:39):
So Eric, you know, we all know that coaches are
some of the most influential people in the lives of children,
and they offer so much beyond the game in which
they coach. And I think everyone listening who played a
sport in activity can point to an influential coach in
their lives. And tonight, twenty five miles north here is
Mike Cauley's stone memorial dedication of Kernel Crawford. Mike was

(01:45:02):
not only a dedicated teacher for twenty for forty five years,
but he also coached football for that same duration. He
passed away a little over a year ago tonight, And
so you know, they say that you can measure the
ability and influence of a coach based upon their coaching
tree of mentoring an influence. Well, Mike has force of
coaches and people that have come from his leadership. And

(01:45:24):
I suppose most important for me personally was when I
was a young man just started green in the football
coaching professional almost twenty years ago, be Cyrus and you know,
Mike Strong's silent, steady, principal leadership. It's going to be
sorely missed, but still lives on in those he impacted.
And so thank you Mike Cawley for all you did
and continue to do through those who you influenced.

Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
And he was a huge influence in the Carl Crawford
school system and it was it was tough when when
he passed away. I was very aware of that community
and what they went through. And and once coach gets
back in here, I'm gonna I'm going to ask him
a question that kind of has to do with all

(01:46:06):
of that.

Speaker 3 (01:46:06):
But we all know that number one, this is just
a game.

Speaker 2 (01:46:11):
But the coaches, especially, you wouldn't do this if you
didn't love the game and love being able to be
an influence on a bunch of young men. And for
the women too, the girls that have the coaches to
be an influence on young women, and the same thing
we were watching the band right now. The band directors
do this because they love music, but they want to

(01:46:35):
be an influence on these kids. And that's that's the
thing that I think is important to remember. And we
say it all the time. We're doing this because we
love to highlight all of those things. And in the
world today, there's so many things that are negative and
not you don't you're not even giving a chance to

(01:46:55):
see the good.

Speaker 3 (01:46:57):
And there's a lot of good.

Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
And when I come out here on Friday night, man,
I see a ton of good, don't you, Scott?

Speaker 20 (01:47:04):
I agree?

Speaker 21 (01:47:05):
And you know, you only get one chance to be
a kid, right and you know, you see on like
the Little League World Series, and you know just the
joy those kids having playing the game and having the
opportunity to have experiences, you know, lifetime experiences.

Speaker 3 (01:47:19):
You know these kids that you know, yeah, the.

Speaker 21 (01:47:21):
Kids are playing in the band, They're gonna remember this
stuff the rest of their life. The kids that run
out of that tunnel playing under like Friday.

Speaker 20 (01:47:27):
Night lights, all that stuff.

Speaker 21 (01:47:29):
But all that stuff exists because someone is speaking into
these kids' lives and directing them and giving them guidance.
And whether it's uh physical, whether it's mental, social, athletically, spiritual,
whatever it is, it's super important. And you're right, we
do get to be out here and celebrate this during

(01:47:50):
moments like this broadcast. But it's all about the kids.
It's not about you or Coach Kuzi or me. Yeah,
it's about the kids and that's why we're out here.

Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
Absolutely well, Coach, I want to ask you real quick.
You know, Scott paid tribute to a man the first
you know, first coach that gave him a chance to coach.

Speaker 3 (01:48:07):
Uh, forty years ago? Was it really forty years ago?
He was forty years he.

Speaker 20 (01:48:12):
Was forty five years ago. Now I'm not that Oh, I.

Speaker 3 (01:48:15):
Didn't think you were that old.

Speaker 2 (01:48:16):
But Coach, it kind of leads me to what I
wanted to ask you here at halftime. And this isn't
really a football question and it's more just of a
coaching question, But what do you think is the real
biggest responsibility that a coach has to their players? What
is it that you know, there's there's all kinds of
things that go into coaching, and there's the technical parts

(01:48:39):
of it, but there's also the one on one relationships.
What do you think is that biggest responsibility you have
as a coach.

Speaker 3 (01:48:47):
The first thing is leave it better than you found it.
And talked to him about always leading things better than
you found it. And number two and what's right up
in there is, uh, do it the right way. Whatever
you're doing, putting your uniform on, cleaning your locker room. Uh,
you know, the way you tuck your shirt in, obviously,
the way you play, way that you prepare, do it

(01:49:10):
the right way and play together. But as a coach,
basically you have to set an example of trying to
do it that way and hopefully it rubs off on
the kids and the more people buy into it, and
you're all and I always talk about being on the
same page. Teach the kids to be on the same page,
and it should be a family there. And uh, if

(01:49:31):
you can, if you can cut away all the other
outside nonsense that these kids have to deal with from
day to day, I think you have a you have
a chance. And uh so you know, whether it be
in sports or whether it be in life. You have
to be able to focus on what you're doing and
get up in the morning and have a goal for
the day. I'm a list maker, make a list of

(01:49:51):
things that you need to accomplish, and uh, just teach
the kids how to be organized and uh, you know,
just treat it like a you know, a function in
life is just to go out to prepare and be that.
Be that for each other every day.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Isn't it interesting too? As a coach, and all three
of us have coached a few different sports, that some
of those memories that you have of players and kids
are sometimes like the smallest moment. It's we all kind
of remember some big games that we were part of
and things like that, but I remember moments where a

(01:50:26):
player that had really struggled all year.

Speaker 3 (01:50:29):
Had that one tackle or that just excited them. Sometimes
those are bigger than anything else. Yeah, you know, and
you have some funny things that happened because you know,
when I got out of college and I had an
opportunity to play college ball, I thought every kid that
was in high school when I coached him aspired to
be a college athlete. And that's not true.

Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
It was something that I, you know, aspired to do,
and it took a lot of hard money. And you
came and coached at a farming school.

Speaker 3 (01:50:57):
Yeah. Well, and I'll tell you what I loved that
minute of it, and uh, but you know one of
the funny stories where it was during a JV game
and and I wasn't given the halftime Robert ospeech. It
was one of the other coaches, and he was going
on and on about how this is what we need
to do, and this is what we need to do,
and we got to hit, and we got to tackle,
and we got to do this and do that. And

(01:51:17):
he went on for probably at least a couple of
minutes and and he yells out, are there any questions?
And this one little kid in the corner, a little
fresh and raised his hand and says, yeah, coach, you've
got chalk on your shoulder. So you know, when you
think they all are on the same page at every moment,
and they all aspire to accomplish all the things that

(01:51:37):
you think that they want to accomplish, sometimes you know
somebody's sitting there and worried about you have chalk on
your shoulders. So but that's why you've got to get
to every single kid and bring every kid up to
a little better level than they were, both athletically and
as a person. If you can and leave it, better
leave him better than you found him.

Speaker 21 (01:51:59):
You know, the correlation between sports and life is so strong,
you know, and there's a reason why so many players
that went through UCLA consider John Wooden more than just
a great coach, right, I mean lou Al Sendor considered,
you know, he was, he was almost best friends.

Speaker 3 (01:52:19):
But John Wooden Bill Walton shaved his beard.

Speaker 21 (01:52:22):
Yes, Except so you know that there are things where
the correlation between life and sports. You know, you're talking about, Oh, yeah,
we see this kid that we've really been trying to
coach into preach into do the right thing, and they're
finally successful.

Speaker 29 (01:52:35):
Well.

Speaker 21 (01:52:35):
The thing is you see that in life too, you know,
is those kids that we coached, we get to see
them later on in life and it's like, hey, man,
you're doing a great job. And John knows well through
teaching you run into kids twenty years ten years after
you had them, and you see him successful. I see
kids all the time and Marian and I'm like.

Speaker 3 (01:52:53):
Hey, good to see you.

Speaker 20 (01:52:55):
I'm glad to see you're doing successful.

Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
Way to do it well, you know, I actually, you know,
I talk about teaching at Try Rivers and and it's
one of the most fun I've ever had in and
this is my forty sixth year of education. And you
you I've talked about green uh number two for River
Valley defensive end and caught ill and these guys are
in our class. And today I had an I was

(01:53:18):
off today, but I had an opportunity to stop over
at the work site and I looked at those guys
and they're up there climbing up on h we're building
a fence and we're putting beams up over the KSC.
And those guys were working and I'm like, hey, guys,
take it easy. Uh you got you know, you got
a game tonight with pleasant And they just looked at me.
I could tell the look in their eye they were

(01:53:38):
ready to play and they're proving it tonight. But those kids,
you know, it's they're playing like they they were resting
all day and uh wow and uh and uh what
what fine young men besides football players? And uh just
they're gonna be a great asset to the community here
in another year because they're both seniors. Well I can

(01:53:59):
I can only say that.

Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
You know, I've had a lot of coaches over the years,
and many of them were big influences on how I
looked at life. I'm lucky enough to be able to
sit next to one of them every Friday night. That
was a huge influence on how I might appreciate that. Eric, Yeah,
it's very true. You're not talking about me or then
you're all right, Scott, you're all right too.

Speaker 3 (01:54:24):
Uh, but we'll go ahead. Moros. Yeah, we're still trying
to figure out the Yeah. But but but you're right, Eric.

Speaker 21 (01:54:31):
You know, coach Cuzzio did this for a lot of years,
and there's a reason why he's here, right, Yeah, he's
knowledgeable about football. But the reason why he's able still
what he does is because his ability to do what
he does. And it's the world is full of John
Wooden's right, but not everyone gets the notoriety of John Wooden.

Speaker 20 (01:54:50):
So putting life into kids.

Speaker 3 (01:54:52):
I'll leave you with this quote Coach wood And said,
coaching is saying thing one saying things one hundred times.
And a good friend of mine, Nick Ajar, came in
my first year as a head coach, and he came
in the locker room and we had that up in
the coach's office and I was having kind of a
bad practice and having a bad morning and he comes

(01:55:13):
in and we had to keep things light and he
crossed out one hundred and put one hundred thousand times
Coach Cuzio, and that kind of broke the ice and
we had a lot of fun. But yeah, I mean
that's what it's all about, man making relationships with all
these people, and different parts of all these people rub
off on you. Absolutely. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
All right, well we're going to take one more break.
Just about done with halftime here, pleasant as pleasant is
trying to find a way to climb back in the
second half down thirty five to nothing into River Valley.

Speaker 4 (01:56:50):
The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (01:56:57):
Back here at Pleasant High School. As the team's going
to the sidelines now and Pleasant trying to find a
way to dig themselves out of this hole, and coach
you've I mean, I'm not going to ask you how
many times you ever found yourself in this situation, but

(01:57:18):
what are some of the things that you say to
your team at halftime? I would imagine one of the
first thing is okay, that's the past.

Speaker 4 (01:57:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:57:24):
Before I go on and answer that, I'd like to
give a shout out to really good friends of ours,
Ryl and myself, Nick and Jane Comer, very fine Ridgedale
people that listen to our broadcast Eric, whether Ridgdale's playing
or not, every single week, and when I see him
out at a restaurant or whatever, and they tell me that,

(01:57:45):
you know, you guys are sounding good. Whatever I said,
you know, at least there's two people that we know
that listen to it at least, so I've got to
give them a shout out. Okay, really some nice people.
But no, basically, you just have to go and say
we're going to play one play at a time. You know,
it's kind of cliche, but you have to do that.
You can't get your head down, and you better keep
smiling and better keep working otherwise it's gonna go pretty

(01:58:08):
quickly with a running clock in the second half. But
you got to play with pride. Now, You've got to,
you know, play in you know, River Valley is not
going to take the pedal off the metal. It's the
defense's responsibility to stop the offense. And that's the situation
right now, especially with a rivalry game. So I look

(01:58:28):
for pleasant to come out and try to put something
together and put a couple of nice drives together in
the second half.

Speaker 2 (01:58:34):
Still a good crowd out here tonight, and even though
it does seem seemingly impossible, it's not impossible. You you
get a touchdown to get that running clock to stop.
That's the first goal.

Speaker 3 (01:58:48):
You get a touchdown, get a quick interception, you make
something happen, You wake the crowd up a little bit,
you get the feeling, get a little confidence, and you
got to keep the ball out of Ebert's hands because
he's spreading it really well tonight. So back to receive
this kickoff is Colin berr and.

Speaker 2 (01:59:11):
Christian Burns. They're back at their own ten every kickoff
so far tonight, and there spent a lot of them
for Hudson Pollock. They have been into the end zone
and I don't expect that to change unless he mishits somehow.

Speaker 3 (01:59:29):
The fans are still here. He's a striker on the
soccer team, and well he strikes it.

Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
Here tonight and that one is going into the end
zone and so ball will be out at the twenty,
you know, coach. You were telling me and my daughter
when we were heading here that you learned what a
striker is in soccer because you have your grandson playing,
so you started watching a little bit more soccer. So
you know, I coached a lot of sports and coach

(01:59:54):
a little bit of you soccer. But he's he really
enjoys it playing at Day Springs, and so I've got
to learn some terminology. So when he comes back and
he says, hey, Pap, did you see my this or that?

Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
And tackle? What was the slide tack? Slide tackle? Learned
what that was and he got one put on him
the other day and he really liked it. So I
told him he might want to switch sports if he
really liked getting a slide tackle put on him.

Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
First and ten at the twenty for the Spartans, Lowry
fakes the handoff, nice running option cuts it up to
the twenty five and that's a nice run there. We
have not seen the option out of pleasant so far
this season. That's an eight yard game.

Speaker 3 (02:00:33):
Yeah. I was going to say, if there's anything that
that young man could do well, it's probably the option.
And he really came out there. You couldn't even really
tell if he had the football and picked up some nice.

Speaker 2 (02:00:44):
Yard each handoff to Niederhouser across the thirty there's first
down thirty five to forty and up ahead to the
forty nine yard line. That's a matthew Son AFRA first down.
Two big plays, tackled by Snyder or excuse me, that
was Axe line.

Speaker 3 (02:00:56):
Yeah. Well, if River Valley he thought pleasant was gonna
laid down in those first two plays, they found out
they weren't, and that might have woke him up a
little bit. Let's see what happens defensively for River Valley.

Speaker 2 (02:01:07):
Well at the forty nine now Lowry throws it out complete,
up ahead to the forty five and tackled. That's the
forty four yard line. That's to Dylan Burns, a gain
of about eight and that was.

Speaker 3 (02:01:21):
Jackson Cardill on the tackle and not to not to
Let's see he's about one yard short, is what I'm
trying to say here.

Speaker 2 (02:01:31):
Yeah, actually two right now, two yards. Two backs in
the backfield on either side of Lowry and snap comes up,
hand off and I think that's to Tracktenberg and he
gets close to the first down.

Speaker 3 (02:01:46):
Ayden Kanagy as Senior five nine was in on the tackle.
You know, Hayden's come into the game of thirty nine
tackles in one interception on the year. He's very active
on the River Valley defense.

Speaker 2 (02:02:00):
Third down and one, nine to seventeen in counting again
a running clock with the score being thirty five to nothing.
Once they have a thirty point lead, that starts the
running clock in the second half.

Speaker 3 (02:02:16):
That's how important not giving up that touchdown was right
before the half because the clock is definitely a pleasant
enemy in the second half.

Speaker 2 (02:02:27):
Hand off straight ahead to Niederhauser, and that looks to
be a Matthew Hondakra first down.

Speaker 3 (02:02:35):
Maybe a little short, but I think are they saying
it's short? Yeah? One of the guys that yeah. One
of the guys they haven't gone to is Lathan McCants.
I believe this is his first year out for a
long time. A basketball player came out, want to be
a part of the program and really good athlete. They

(02:02:56):
haven't gone to him yet. They haven't gone to number
Let's see number five, Cole Bailey.

Speaker 2 (02:03:04):
So it is fourth and one in the shotgun Lowry
and he hands it off, No, he fakes the handoff, goes.

Speaker 3 (02:03:14):
Around the outside and picks up the first down and
more down at the thirty five yard line. A great
fake thereby Lowry. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:03:21):
As much as River Valley's defensive line was coming forward
in the first half, it seems like they're basically standing
up so far the first part of the second half.
Matthew Hondagra first down and now play action going deep.
There's Lowry and ball is knocked away.

Speaker 3 (02:03:38):
Boy, he put that right on the mark, but double
coverage and that was intended for Dylan Burns. Yeah, Jackson
cott Ill was a guy that eventually made the knock
away pass, and number eight Luke axe Line was right
there to help him and Cherry on and be a
part of that play. But definitely Burns with a lot
of speed, was covered well by Jackson Cardell.

Speaker 2 (02:04:03):
Five wide, Lowry low in the backfield and he steps up,
cuts it to the outside and he runs for about
two yards, brings up a third and long. So I
think River Valley is kind of choosing to keep everything
in front of him and make a pleasant run the football.
Definitely keeping them in bounds. I know the clock's going

(02:04:27):
to run, but if pleasant would happen to score, those
are the rules in clock management that you.

Speaker 3 (02:04:31):
Want to go by and you want to continue to
try to do that even though you're head thirty five nothing,
six forty left in the third period.

Speaker 2 (02:04:41):
Again, a running clock man in motion is Niederhauser. He
gets it on the sweep up ahead to the thirty
and is tackled just short of the first down. He'll
be fourth down and one.

Speaker 3 (02:04:53):
Yeah, that's what it looked like two weeks ago when
we were over here on that jet sweep. He picked
up ahead of steam and he turns the corner and
picked up some really nice yards there, and that's what
it looked like up until then. It didn't look like that.

Speaker 2 (02:05:07):
Eric, So fourth and two officially, so we'll see what
the play call will be here for the Spartans.

Speaker 3 (02:05:19):
Big play here for the Spartans. Fourth and two. Unbalanced
eye backfield and hand off straight ahead. Fumbled and that's
picked up by Lowry and he went forward, but I
don't think he got it. The ball may have been there,
but I think his knee was down behind the yard marker.
We'll have to wait and see where they spot it.

Speaker 2 (02:05:41):
Yeah, I don't think that's a first down, but I
can't tell from the other side of the field. Yep,
it is conversion is no good. So River Valley dodges
a bullet here clock continues to run five forty nine.
The change they do stop the clock and change of possession.

Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
Well, I got a special report from our roving reporter,
Scott Camera, and he went to four g right before
the half, and he just announced that he's gone back
to five G on the opposite side, oh, on the
River Valley side. So hopefully we'll here be able to
hear him a lot better the second half.

Speaker 2 (02:06:17):
So first and ten four of the Vikings ball is
that their own twenty six yard line clock is running
in River Valley. I would imagine going to take the
play clock all the way down on every offensive play
one second left. Ball comes back and that's complete over
near the sideline, out of bounds. The clock still runs

(02:06:38):
about A six maybe seven yard reception brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (02:06:43):
Yeah, I was trying to get it was ax Line
on the catch right there. Ax Line coming in with
six around six receptions. I believe they just spread it around.
They've got about six guys that they can get the
ball to.

Speaker 2 (02:07:01):
Clock is running four fifty three left in the third period,
ball comes back. Ebert throws across the middle, trying to
hit the big tight.

Speaker 3 (02:07:14):
End number ianax Line, number eighty five and nice big
target Eric six. So he hit those big guys across the.

Speaker 2 (02:07:25):
Mid Yeah, I mean he looks like a Travis Kelcey
out there. So third down and three for the Vikings,
and again they are running the play clock down as
far as they can, back to pass and going deep

(02:07:47):
and that's Snyder and I think he caught it.

Speaker 23 (02:07:50):
He did.

Speaker 3 (02:07:51):
He hauled that in at the thirty nine yard line,
actually forty, and that's a Matthews Hondaker first down and
quickly up on the ball. Is River Valley wasting no time.
That's just a lot of hours of playing pitch and
catch in the in the summer.

Speaker 2 (02:08:08):
Ball is thrown out of bounds by River Valley's Ebert
under a lot of pressure. But that was actually it
was a good pass, but a great reception there by
Eli Snyder.

Speaker 3 (02:08:21):
Yeah, he lays it right over the defensive man's shoulder
and the ball's in the air before the defensive man
can even turn and react to the football. And like
I said, it's just pitch and catch a lot of
it in the summer and if they want to do it,
you get guys together and go. You don't need a coach.
You just go down to the ball field and empty
lot and work on pass patterns because they know what

(02:08:41):
they all are. And you just spend hours doing it.
And that's the result of it.

Speaker 2 (02:08:45):
Act passes Ebert, he just loves it up, throws it
out bounds. Now a penalty flag, my guess would be
a holding. Clock does continue to run.

Speaker 3 (02:08:57):
That is a hold. So Scott, I want to try
to throw it over to you. Let's see what it's
like over there on the River Valley sideline.

Speaker 20 (02:09:05):
Well can you hear me?

Speaker 3 (02:09:07):
Yes?

Speaker 24 (02:09:08):
Oh?

Speaker 21 (02:09:08):
Perfect, Okay. You know, it's really kind of a worst
case scenario for Pleasant. It's just really ticking away from
what they do offensively. They feel pressure to try and
score to you know, get that clock stop. Meanwhile, River
Valley they can throw the ball incomplete because the clock
still runs.

Speaker 20 (02:09:23):
So this is really kind of the worst case scenario
for Pleasant.

Speaker 21 (02:09:27):
But they have to get something going defensively to give
them some confidence going into Clear Fork next week.

Speaker 2 (02:09:33):
Absolutely, and they want to finish this game strong, no
matter what the outcome is. Second and twenty now for
the Vikings four wide receivers on the near side. Ebert
steps back to pass, throws it out and that's complete
on the sideline and yes, kept this feed in.

Speaker 3 (02:09:52):
I believe that was axe line. Yep.

Speaker 2 (02:09:56):
And up ahead to the thirty five yard line. Third
down and five back to pass and there's a penalty flag.

Speaker 3 (02:10:03):
I believe false start. No encroachment by the defense. One
of the defensive players for Pleasant was still behind the
line of scrimmage trying to get back across and River
Valley did a nice job of getting up there, and
the kid was kind of lollygagging to try to get across,
and Ebert was very smart to snap the football and

(02:10:24):
pick up an easy five yards.

Speaker 2 (02:10:27):
So I want to give a shout out. Before the game,
I went over to the Pleasant Music Boosters.

Speaker 3 (02:10:33):
Yeah, I saw that sitting back there.

Speaker 2 (02:10:34):
Yeah, the whole game the stand back there, This could
be interesting. Well, I'm just I brought it over here
because I finished most of it. They have the best
baked potatoes over there, the Pleasant Music Boosters concession stand
on the visitors side. I mean, you don't usually see
the visitors concession stand have people from the home crowd

(02:10:54):
going over there, but they do, and River Valley fans
ate very well tonight as well. So first and ten,
Ebert back to pass and nobody there a little miscommunication
on that under a minute left.

Speaker 3 (02:11:08):
Here in the third period. Pretty good pressure by Menser,
you know, one of the few times we've seen him
in there trying to scrap around and put pressure and
cause Ebert to kind of throw a low ball, low
football that time.

Speaker 2 (02:11:21):
So it would be second or yeah, second down and ten,
and again the fans still here, and I love seeing that.
I love seeing that on both sides, because you know,
when you get frustrated, if you're on the losing side,
you get frustrated. Sometimes you just don't want to stay here.
But they're staying here because the kids. They're staying here

(02:11:43):
because they're fans of the school, they were alumni, and
the River Valley fans are still very strong too. Roll
out to the right by Ebert and he throws across
the field. That's always the dangerous past, but when you're
up by thirty five, it's maybe not quite as dangerous.

Speaker 3 (02:12:02):
The center accepted on the ten yard line, then that's
as good as a punt, and they're still up.

Speaker 2 (02:12:06):
Thirty five exactly and that's the end of the third period.
Quick one here going into the fourth River Valley, still
up thirty five to nothing.

Speaker 3 (02:12:15):
We'll take a break.

Speaker 2 (02:12:16):

Speaker 4 (02:13:20):
The Matthews Honda Acurra High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (02:13:27):
Back here at Pleasant High School. Start of the fourth period,
River Valley with the ball third and ten at the
Pleasant thirty yard line and a delay of game penalty,
and I think again, just trying to run as much
time as they possibly can. River Valley's not worried about scoring, obviously,

(02:13:51):
but they still want to.

Speaker 3 (02:13:54):
Have decent possessions.

Speaker 2 (02:13:55):
Here on offense third and fifteen, Ebert steps back to pass,
he's blissed from the backside, and that time ball is underthrown.
Ebert took a shot, it was clean, and that was
jas Tracktenberg off the edge, and so River Valley forced

(02:14:20):
to punt.

Speaker 3 (02:14:20):
I'll tell you, I'd like to mention River Valley's offensive line.
We don't get enough, they don't get enough credit. Sell
your Crawford, Thorpe, Ward is in there, Logan and Kloa,
these are the guys that protected Ebert this whole three
quarters of play, and would like to give them a

(02:14:41):
little shout out, because well, I'll tell you what. Without them,
they're not Ebers not able to get the passes off
like he is.

Speaker 2 (02:14:48):
Ebert back to pass, he throws it up to axe
Line and incomplete. I know Axe Line wanted the pass interference.
They were fighting each other for the ball and you're
up there to nothing. You're probably not going to get that.

Speaker 3 (02:15:02):
This is in the NFL. Looks like Mencer was in
there and really put a shot on Ebert just as
he was releasing the football. Good clean hit.

Speaker 2 (02:15:12):
So turnover on down's they're pleasant with the ball back
and Spartan's just want to get on the board right
now more than anything. First and ten and hand off

(02:15:34):
to the left side Peter Hauser and he gets about
two yards on that carry.

Speaker 3 (02:15:37):
Second down. Yeah, the the offense right now, with the
clock running, just trying to pick up first downs obviously
isn't enough, but CJ it definitely is realistic to know
that the clock's not going to stop even on an

(02:15:58):
incomplete pass. So they've got to just keep put running
their offense, keep you know, working to try to ask
execute And I'm not saying use it as a practice,
but uh, he's definitely got a you know, his players
are definitely encouraged to keep working and playing as though
the score was tied at this point. And hand off
to the left side and that's Matthew's Honda Actor first

(02:16:21):
down for Niederhauser. Yeah, it looks like a new quarterback
Schaefer West Shaeffer and now penalty flags everywhere. Something happened. Wow. Yeah,
he's got Lowry out of the game. He's got west
Shaefer and he's a freshman five seven fifty head quarterback

(02:16:45):
and giving him an opportunity to get some playing time.
And you know, Pleasint's got five more games plus this season,
and coach Westler is very realistic in this situation. Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:16:58):
I mean, you don't want to needlessly have your your
starting quarterback get hurt, right.

Speaker 3 (02:17:07):
He's too valuable to the team. Like I say, they've
got five games to go and plus you know, possibly
playoff situation.

Speaker 2 (02:17:18):
So you know, he wants to protect his players, and
he's gonna go ahead and and get his other kids
in there. One thing I want to make sure I
do point out too, we haven't said much about the
referees to night, and I think it's because they've done
an excellent job of officiating this game.

Speaker 3 (02:17:35):
Yeah, if I believe one of them is is Dennis Watkins,
one of those guys out there might be which one
is the shortest one over there, he's really been Like
to thank him and the rest of the group and

(02:17:57):
all the referees throughout the state of Ohio and congratulate
them on continuing to work with these kids. And without them,
we couldn't have a game. And they're out there, you know,
they really enjoy being out there too, and helped contribute
to a positive situation in all of our communities.

Speaker 2 (02:18:15):
Absolutely, that completion up ahead to number thirteen, Dylan Burns
now delayed hand off to Niederhauser.

Speaker 3 (02:18:28):
No gain on that. Let's go down to Scott real quick.

Speaker 21 (02:18:31):
Scott, Yeah, echoing exactly what you're saying. The rest have
done a great job before those personal fouls.

Speaker 20 (02:18:39):
It's a rivalry.

Speaker 21 (02:18:40):
The teams kind of got together after play and we're
kind of chipping each other, and the players were actually
the ones that were separating from each other. The rests
let them work it out and they just didn't continue
it after the next play. But you're right, the rest
have done a great job.

Speaker 20 (02:18:54):
But still a rivalry.

Speaker 21 (02:18:55):
Week and it's still a lot of hot heads out
there and some frustration coming out.

Speaker 2 (02:19:00):
And you know that does bring up the point too
as Shafer takes off up the middle for a nice
game close to first down. As much emotion as goes
into this game, and we know it, we've seen it
over the years. This has been a relatively clean game.
I haven't seen a lot of and we don't know
what's being said down the field, but I haven't seen

(02:19:22):
a lot of pushing and shoving. Yeah, there was a
couple of late hits. I don't think it was something.
None of them looked like it was egregious. It's been
a very clean game and that says something about the
teams as well.

Speaker 3 (02:19:35):
Yeah, they're just playing hard. And you know they've all
known each other from you know, grade school across the way,
playing flag football and baseball against each other. It's a
small community and everybody knows everybody. And this has really
been a great evening all in all, regardless of the
score for pleasant, you got a packed house tonight. Everybody's

(02:19:58):
out having fun. Schaffer with the Matthew Hondaker first down
up the middle, and now he takes it again and
gets it to about the twenty one yard line.

Speaker 1 (02:20:15):
You know this.

Speaker 3 (02:20:16):
Situation where Shaffer's in there, he's got to play a series.
We'll play pay great dividends for the program down the road.
And despite the fact Lowry's out of the game, coach
is protecting him for the rest of the season. But
Shaffer's doing a really nice job.

Speaker 2 (02:20:31):
Shaffer throws to the end zone incomplete and there's a
flag there, so that'll be past interference. Schaefer puts the
ball on the money and Shaffer's not a tall kid.
And again he's only a freshman, but his brother was
the starting quarterback for two years and was a really

(02:20:52):
good He was all Ohio, ran for a lot of
yards and ran this offense for two years. So his
brother taking taking in his footsteps.

Speaker 3 (02:21:04):
Yeah, And he sat back there and he took a
hit while he threw the football and just kind of
bounced right up. And it seems like he's enjoying himself
out there.

Speaker 2 (02:21:19):
So the fifty to fifty numbers being given, I bet
you that's a good pot tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:21:24):
Oh yeah, no, question Yep. Nobody seems to have left yet.

Speaker 2 (02:21:29):
Nope, First and ten faked to Niederhauser and then Schaeffer
gets tackled right at the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (02:21:37):
Looks like it's twenty four. I don't think the announcer
got that one right. That's twenty four. Hayden Kanagi Senior.
We've called his name a few times here in the
last two ball games. We did him last week with
Ontario and also tonight. So I think we'll see River
Valley down the road again. We'll see and down the

(02:22:00):
road again a couple of times where we at next week, Eric,
We're at River Valley. We're at River Valley and they
have who Hardy Wow. So it doesn't get any easier.
Normally we probably wouldn't have the same school three weeks
in a row. But the way the schedule worked out,
probably one of the best games to do last week
was River Valley Ontario, and then you got two weeks

(02:22:21):
in a row where River Valley's playing the other two
Marion County schools in their conference and we definitely have
to do those games.

Speaker 2 (02:22:28):
Yeah, So just the way it worked out, and I
know that again, it's interesting for River Valley. They jumped
from one highly contested.

Speaker 3 (02:22:41):
You know, revenge.

Speaker 2 (02:22:42):
We'll not revenge game, but rivalry game to another one
that maybe not it's not as old is what the
Pleasant River Valley rivalry is, but it's still a pretty intense.

Speaker 3 (02:22:52):
Didn't River Valley knock them off last year? Mm hmm, Yeah,
they beat him last year. That was the game I missed,
and you guys actually listen to that one. And I
know Harding played hard in River Valley and but Ebert
had a I guess last year had a really great
did and looking forward to that.

Speaker 2 (02:23:11):
So one of the Pleasant players is down. I didn't
see who it was, so we'll just kind of keep
it right here. And uh seven number seven, okay, so
that is well, that's Niederhauser. So that's a little concerning.

Speaker 3 (02:23:33):
Yeah, here's a situation where you know, you want your
kids to understand they want to keep playing to the end,
but on the other hand, you can't get your key
players hurt.

Speaker 2 (02:23:45):
You know, there's a kind of a fine line there. Yeah,
and this, you know, we don't know what's going on
with Niederhouser right now. He might just have a spring.
But that's two starters, one on defense, one on offense
that have gone down with injuries.

Speaker 3 (02:23:58):
Tonight yeah, and that he looks like he not really
putting much weight on it. And the thing is too
you know River Valley once that goose egg up on
the board. Yeah, and I honestly believe that if pleasant
would have put in their their seconds about at the
beginning of this series, maybe River Valley would have also
have done that. But you know, you never know.

Speaker 2 (02:24:20):
Well, and with the you know, you have the backup
quarterback in. I do like the fact that they're letting
him run the offense with the starters. Uh, just so
he has some experience running with with the rest of
the starters. I think that's good for him.

Speaker 3 (02:24:35):
I don't like it for this reason right here.

Speaker 2 (02:24:37):
Well, and that's but that's the other side that is tough.
So Scott real quick, you saw something there on the sideline.

Speaker 20 (02:24:48):
Yeah, once again it's as a rivalry. However, Uneter Hawger.

Speaker 21 (02:24:53):
Was on the ground not feeling good, but a Valley
player came out to check on him. Waddell came out
to on him, just to just check on the guys,
because it is this is just a game. Neither kids,
just good sportsmanship. This has been a really good I
know we've kind of already said it but it has
been a really clean game, and it's been good.

Speaker 2 (02:25:15):
Yes, it has been. Schaefer tackled right away and gobbled
up by the defense of River Valley.

Speaker 3 (02:25:21):
Why Rick number five, five eleven one nine linebacker put
a hit on. We've talked about him quite a bit
coming into this into this game. The young man has
got some pretty good stats here. He's got forty tackles
coming into this one. Eli Snyder with fifty four tackles,
Kanagie with thirty nine, Wattle leading away with over sixty,

(02:25:45):
So Cordelle twenty four, and I know Ryan Green came
into the game with twenty one, and I bet you
he picked up at least ten or eleven tonight. Oh yeah,
easily pass almost picked off little pop pass into the
end zone and that was fourth down. So River Valley
takes over deep in their own territory and do a

(02:26:07):
real quick run through of scores. Shelby in the fourth
quarter dominating Gallion thirty five to six, e Versandusky beating
Winford seventeen to thirteen, Carry thirty one, Senec East twenty one,
Urbana over North Union twenty four to nothing, East Knox

(02:26:31):
forty nine, Cartington twenty two, Highland the twenty one Harding seven,
Elgin fourteen, Cory Rosson three, Frederick Town fourteen, Mount Gilliad
twelve and Colonel Crawford in a final sixty two to
nothing over Buckeye Central as the ball just handed off

(02:26:55):
and one sixteen left in this game, as River Valley
starting to celebrate, and it is a big win, and
that's for sure, and it was going to be a
big win no matter who won. But for the Vikings,

(02:27:17):
having a season that's been up and down already and
coming off a tough loss against Ontario, this is a
huge win for them and they've been able to keep
the streak alive of beating the Spartans now four years
in a row. Right now, River Valley taking the knee.

(02:27:37):
And I don't know of really a time where I've
watched a football game where the team came out from
the first play to the end and pretty much dominated
the other team and played so cleanly with a lack
of penalties, and also the crispness of the way their
offense ran, some dynamic pas s's, some great catches, and

(02:28:02):
defensively did what they needed to to stop pleasant it was.

Speaker 4 (02:28:05):
It was.

Speaker 2 (02:28:06):
It was pretty remarkable and and like we said last week,
they were. They had a really great second half. They
just got behind too far in that first half against Ontario.
This seems to have been a continuation and it's almost
like they woke up. They got hit hard in that
first half, there's no doubt about it. But they did

(02:28:28):
the hitting in the second half. And tonight against a
team as physical as pleasant Is that we know can
hit hard, they they were the one to delivering the punches.

Speaker 20 (02:28:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:28:38):
I really thought on that series they went down and
then eventually the interception was thrown, they were only down seven.
I was like, Okay, this is gonna be that type
of game, and they're gonna come back and they're gonna score,
and then it's gonna be back and forth, back and forth,
and a big play, defensive play is gonna be the
the determining point. But when riverval got the interception, they

(02:29:02):
went right down and scored. That just pretty much told
Pleasant we're here to play tonight and you can't stop us.
And that's exactly what happened.

Speaker 2 (02:29:12):
And I'm watching Niederhauser is going through the line limping
and River Valley players are hugging him, patting him on
the back and it may not be a serious injury
in the long run, but that sportsmanship, that is what
you want to see. Yeah, these guys want to I mean,

(02:29:32):
they want to beat each other as bad as possible,
but nobody wants to see anybody hurt. And when it's
all said and done, it is a game. And I
think the coaches on both sides make that point. Hey, guys,
we're going to be serious about this. We're going to
work our butts off at the end. It's a game.
You're here for your brothers and we're not trying to

(02:29:54):
kill anybody, right.

Speaker 3 (02:29:55):
Yeah, you know, you got to give coach Waddell, you know,
some credit here, stuck with his guns. Last week, they
sputtered offensively because mostly because Ontario really had an answer.
They had a really good defensive line. They were running
people in and out tonight, you know, on a really
fast track. They were able to do whatever they wanted
to do. They had a great game plan, and they've

(02:30:18):
got the quarterback. He was the difference tonight. Yeah. I mean,
Chase Ebert. I'm setting you up. I know you are.
And Chase Ebert will be our pillar.

Speaker 2 (02:30:27):
Craig Union Player of the game five touchdowns and when
I don't even have all of his stats yet, but
he was just about flawless. And hopefully we'll get Scott.
He's gonna work on having a chance to talk to
Chase and maybe even talk to coach Waddle. And last
week he just he he had a defense against him

(02:30:48):
at especially in the first half. I know we've kind
of harped on it, but that defense gave him fits
and they did very well, but he settled down really well.
And one thing Coach Walt said today in the pregame interview,
the kid just has confidence. And you see it all
the time. I see it when I call his basketball games.

(02:31:08):
He is just a confidence. It's not a cockiness. It's
just man, I know I can do some things. I'm
going to do what I can.

Speaker 3 (02:31:15):
Well. When we had him last year at Ralfie's and
we talked to him about being the quarterback, he said,
when I was in flag football and just a little kid,
I've always wanted to be a quarterback. And he said,
that's what I practiced to be and that's what he
is now. And so when a kid is that determined
and that focused his whole life to be that and

(02:31:35):
he studies, and he talked about I think Tom Brady,
and you know what a you know, a role model
there as far as me in that style is you know,
definitely a kid's like that if they think about it
all the time, they try to learn, and it's really
neat to see because I'll tell you what. His arm.

(02:31:56):
The ball comes off of his hand. He has great touch,
and he sits back and he could read the defense.
He gets it off quickly when he needs to.

Speaker 2 (02:32:03):
And you know, he talks about how Tom Brady was
an influence. But I also I look at him like
a Brett Farv because he is a gun slinger.

Speaker 3 (02:32:13):
He's not afraid.

Speaker 2 (02:32:14):
And if you remember Brett Farv when he came out
of college, he was considered a running quarterback. He ran
the option at Southern Miss. We're looking at a kid
here who could run I think, almost any type of
offense as a quarterback. He just happens to be in
one that's a spread, and he's not afraid to put
it in tight spaces. But maybe unlike Brett Farvin, more

(02:32:35):
like Tom Brady, he does know when to throw it away.
He does know when to maybe Okay, I don't need
to take this chance. But he doesn't have fear, and
I think that's what you want in a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (02:32:45):
And maybe Scott down there would remember when he knows
when to hold him and he knows when to fold him.
So I'm going to hear from Scott hopefully and these
guys down here in a minute. And I would like
to hear him.

Speaker 2 (02:33:00):
Well, Scott's working his way over and he'll give me
the thumbs up when he has somebody.

Speaker 1 (02:33:05):
I do know that.

Speaker 3 (02:33:09):
Okay, he's got the thumbs up, So Scott go take
it away.

Speaker 20 (02:33:13):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 21 (02:33:13):
Okay, yep, okay, perfect, So till our Credit Union player
of the game, Ebert Man, I tell you what more?

Speaker 20 (02:33:22):
Almost more touchdowns and fingers tonight, right, you know?

Speaker 21 (02:33:26):
And when I asked you before the pre game, I
asked you, Hey, how you feeling?

Speaker 20 (02:33:30):
You said good. Yeah, we knew, especially before the.

Speaker 29 (02:33:34):
Game, everybody was locked in. We knew we had to
come off the plus and make a statement. We felt good,
especially after.

Speaker 21 (02:33:39):
That first score, so the train was really just rolling
in the first half. What was your feeling is did
everything just feels smooth tonight? Even your incompletions were good?
In completions just smart place. What was kind of going
through your head going through that first half.

Speaker 29 (02:33:54):
No, everything that helps is watching film during the week
slows everything down. They came out with a look they
haven't showed on film. All the guys you howters frown
credit up front.

Speaker 20 (02:34:02):
You know, they showed bliss.

Speaker 3 (02:34:03):
They took care of it.

Speaker 29 (02:34:04):
That's what we needed to win.

Speaker 21 (02:34:06):
That's a big game next week against Marion Harding at
your place, thoughts, feelings.

Speaker 29 (02:34:12):
Got to approach it the same way we took this
and it's homecoming, big game. We're gonna we'll come out
all right, go.

Speaker 20 (02:34:18):
Ahead the team, sir, congratulations, Thank you.

Speaker 3 (02:34:22):
Chase Eber.

Speaker 2 (02:34:22):
I like what he said there because it could be
you know, you're going against another county team, and he said,
we just got to go out there and do it
like we did this week.

Speaker 3 (02:34:32):
Yeah, I mean, I think they they do a great
job when they play loose and like he said, they
were locked in. That's a great term for the night
for River Valley to be locked in. And they weren't raw, raw.
They they were just playing with confidence. They had the
swagger and they weren't they weren't show off tonight and
they you know, they played clean, hard, fast football and

(02:34:56):
their receivers really made a difference. So the coach coached
oldest before the game, he took one from your book,
as this is a business trip, guys, that's what we're
here for. So it looks like Scott has coach Waddle.
Let's see what coach wattle has to say.

Speaker 20 (02:35:12):
Eric, can you hear me? Yeah, we perfect Coach wattle Man.
What can I say?

Speaker 21 (02:35:18):
You know, when you and I have talked during this week,
you said, if we can just get on a roll,
we got to trustee and just get on a roll
and we'll take care of things.

Speaker 3 (02:35:29):
Guys made plays tonight. What can I say?

Speaker 30 (02:35:32):
We I mean, we still have some plays out there.
I feel like, but you know, guys stepped up, made
some touches. Chase, I mean, threw the ball well tonight,
line protected well tonight, I thought.

Speaker 20 (02:35:41):
And then you know, defense come up. The defense absolutely.
I know you mentioned the big the goose up there.

Speaker 21 (02:35:48):
You know you were kind of talking about how it
felt like the second half of the Ontario game really
just kind of bled into the first half of this game.

Speaker 14 (02:35:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 30 (02:35:58):
Yeah, defense, I mean defense been playing lights out. Yeah,
we gave up twenty seven last week in the first half,
but even the night, I mean, Pleasn't had some drives
and we were kind of bend, don't break. I mean,
they got into the red zone a few times and
we stayed tough.

Speaker 21 (02:36:14):
Do you feel like this might almost be potentially a
turning point for just that improvement that you're looking for
from the beginning of the year. Do you think this
is kind of that, you know, just going over the
hump and getting this No.

Speaker 30 (02:36:26):
Not necessarily. I mean we've been in this situation before.
You know, we've won the last four. What I'm gonna
challenge our kids coming into next week is, you know,
the unique thing about our schedule is we have back
to back rivalry weeks and obviously this one is really important,
probably the most important one. But you know, we gotta

(02:36:48):
be ready to go next week, and we weren't last year,
and I think our kids are gonna.

Speaker 21 (02:36:51):
Be ready this year, right, And I know four now
means something, But I know from last year you're kind
of went a little bit of taste there, that badness
to go away. So I know you kind of were
telling your team homecoming week home rivalry game against Marion Harding,
what's methodology this week.

Speaker 3 (02:37:08):
It's going to be the same thing. Approach approach the
week like we always do.

Speaker 30 (02:37:12):
Have a good week of practice, be focused, and let's
find a way to get better.

Speaker 21 (02:37:17):
All right, Well, we'll see you there at Ruer Valley
next Friday. Coach congratulations, appreciate.

Speaker 2 (02:37:21):
It all right, thanks Scott, And uh, Coach Waddle, it
was very much I mean, he he's the CEO. If
you talk about it being a business trip, he definitely
carried himself as a CEO this week and talking about
it before this game, he had his his players ready

(02:37:43):
and uh, it was really neat to see. I mean
just from the time they got off the bus, you
could see this team was just zeroed in.
