Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good evening. Jim Stevenson along with coach John Cuzio here
at Pleasant High School for a matchup with the Shelby
Whippets and the Pleasant Spartans in Week ten of high
school football. We're live on the south side of Marion
at Pleasant High School for the Matthews Honda Accurate Game
of the Week featuring the Shelby Whippets visiting the Pleasant Spartans.
(00:26):
Nine to oh. Shelby Whippets and Pleasant Spartans come in
at five and four alongside coach John Couzio. I'm Jim Stevenson,
and we have reached week ten. Both the Spartans and
the Whippets have clinch playoff berths according to the Joe
Idol website, but for Pleasant and upset over Shelby could
give them a chance to host their first round playoff game.
(00:48):
Currently they stand in eleventh place. Coach, and here's Coach Couzio,
how important you think it is to be able to
host your first round playoff game?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well, first, first of all, I like to welcome everybody
also here tonight. What a great night, sixty four degrees
here at game time, six minutes to go, and before
the game kickoff. How important is it. I'll tell you
home field is a great, great importance. When you go
to the playoffs, you get ready, you have your home
fans there, you know, you have your concessions, you have
(01:20):
the band that they don't have to travel very far.
It's just a good feeling to know you're playing a
home game. When the other team's coming in, a visitors
team comes in, they have to kind of change everything
to make the trip.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
But yeah, great night for football.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Regardless of whether or not they have to win or lose,
both teams are going to really be working hard tonight
to represent their schools tonight. I'm looking forward to game.
The field conditions are terrific. There's still grass on the field,
and had a little shower here this morning that kind
of wet things down. And it's good to be back
with you, Jim, doing another game with you this year.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Right, we only had to wait fifty one weeks instead
of fifty two we did first round of the playoffs
last year. He did Elgin and had a good time
out there, at least in the first half. It was
a real good ball game, but then it kind of
went south unfortunately. But the good thing is I was
talking with Eric before the ball game. I am in
sitting in for Eric tonight. He will be back next
(02:17):
week Eric Mosley. But Eric said all the Marion County
teams with a win tonight could actually still make the playoffs.
So a little bit crazy, some of them a little
bit less than five hundred. And I know that's kind
of your criteria for being able to be in the playoffs. Yeah,
I don't really.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
It doesn't really mean too much what I say sometimes anymore,
But yeah, I really. He gives a team to another opportunity,
another week's practice, especially those younger kids, gives them something
to work hard for. You know, they've worked really hard,
especially the kids that aren't even playing a lot of
varsity ball. Another chance to see what it's like, and
(02:57):
who knows, maybe they get their feet wet, they win
their first playoff game, and maybe they can make a run,
because sometimes teams catch fire at the end of the season.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Well, definitely looking forward to this one. Now Shelby comes
in and they've got a lot of weapons. Coach, this
is gonna be definitely a tough task. This is not
just a nine to zero team. They've beaten a lot
of really great teams I brought in their schedule and
they've topped Ontario last week. Ontario was undefeated at the time.
(03:31):
Now Ontario's eight and one, just one spot in their
region behind them. They're in Division four Region fourteen, while
Pleasant comes in at the Division five Region twenty. So yeah,
if Pleasant wins tonight, they can pick up a lot
of secondary points getting all these back points from you know,
but they beat River Valley fifty five to twenty one.
(03:54):
They beat Gallion thirty five to six, and we all thought,
you know, wow, that's going to be a great game,
and they just took it right to them. So we'll
have to wait and see. I know it's a senior
night here, and we were discussing that before the game. Coach,
what are your thoughts on that, especially for the last
game of the season last Uh, it could be the
last home game for a lot of these guys.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, senior night is is kind of a tough night,
I know for coaches because you have you know, the
players are going out. They want to try to end
on a good note. Obviously, it's an emotional game for him.
It's kind of a different emotion, you know than actually
playing the type of emotion you have to have for
playing football. And once that senior part of it goes
(04:35):
away and you're you know, they walk down through with
their with their parents and their acknowledged they've got to
get back into the football mode that their head has
to get back in right because the other team they
they're still warming up while you're walking down the field
and waiting for things to happen in the ceremony. So
both teams are in the locker room right now, Pleasant
(04:57):
hopefully is getting their heads right get ready for the game.
One of the things that you mentioned was the big
wins that I want to go back to Shelby here
Ontario eight and one. I'm impressed with the fact they
scored fifty points against Ontario and we saw them against
River Valley and they really had They held River Valley
to fourteen points, right, and that was that was impressive
(05:21):
for Ontario to do that, especially with Miller at quarterback.
And boy, I'll tell you what they have. They've scored
the points when they needed to. You know, I know,
the their lowest production, yeah, Lexington twenty one to ten.
But I'm looking forward to seeing the quarterback here, Braden
the Veto. He's been playing quarterback at Shelby for a
(05:44):
few years now. He's got twenty one touchdown passes six
only six interceptions, and he's one hundred and thirty six
for two hundred and four twenty five sixty six yards.
He also runs the ball gyms one hundred and thirty
attempts and over one thousand yards rushing.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Very impressive.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Definitely no slouch there, and even with negative yardage, he
averages seven point ninees to carry. So how many times
do you have a quarterback that rushes for a thousand
yards and passes for twenty five hundred. I mean, that's
you know, just about unheard of, especially in high school.
You know, once you get to the higher levels, you
get a few more games, you get some easy games.
(06:30):
But this is a Shelby squad that, like I said,
they have not had, you know, a paddy cake schedule
for sure, So they deserve where they're at. They'd like
to finish the season undefeated. They'd like to come in
here and spoil this senior night for these pleasant spartans.
And as you mentioned, DeVito not only twenty one touchdowns passing,
(06:53):
but he has twenty touchdowns rushing. So yeah, definitely a
dual threat. All eyes need to be on him. It's
kind of night where defensively, can you say, you know, hey,
you two guys always watch him. You two guys always
go after him.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
They also have to watch Brady Bowman wide receiver forty
eight receptions, nine hundred and one yards and seven touchdowns,
and he's just one of the many they have to
throw to tonight. So pleasant's going to have their hands
full when it comes to the passing game, and they
better have somebody with somewhat equivalent speed to make sure
they could keep the veto crowd in because he can
(07:29):
take off and run with it, which obviously is a
great asset to your team. So looks like Shelby's going
to receive first, and we'll kind of see what happens
on this first series, whether or not they'll keep it
on the ground or they'll open it up or mix
it up.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
But bands are playing.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
What a nice crisp night, A bombing sixty four degrees
and temperature is going to drop a little bit. But
if you ever wanted to write a script for a
football night, this is it tonight.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah. Absolutely. He talked about those receiving corps looking just
down the list. One guy Bowman you mentioned, eighteen to
eight is his average per reception. Nick Eister averages eighteen
point four. Cayden Price averages twenty two point three. He's
got three touchdowns. So you just look down the line
and they've got weapons everywhere. So it's going to be
(08:20):
a tough night for Pleasant. If their defense can do
what they've done against the run, that'll be a big
key and try to make it a one dimensional team.
There's the opening kickoff and one of the upback takes
it and he gets corralled right around the twenty yard line.
He might have got forward progress just over. Yeah, it
(08:42):
looks like they're going to stop him at the nineteen.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
That was Travislan for Shelby that made that run.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
There. Got some of the guys on defense for Pleasant
their household names. Brendon Ringer, Jase Trachtenberg, Keegan Fogel, Alec
Collenberg got player of the game last week against Hardy,
a really fine game. Trent Cordial was injured tonight, Sam Menzer,
Jase Adam Scouden. These are some guys that you'll hear
(09:09):
all night tonight.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Shotgun formation three receivers split to the bottom of the
pattern and quarterback is sacked, the ball comes out. I
could be a fumble.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
It looks like big number seventy one, Brady Henry, one
of the linemen going both ways tonight, real fine player.
We've seen him play a lot six to two eighty
five in here to make a tackle. Shall be starting
second in about sixteen already, so pretty good sign for
the Spartans. Let's see what they have up their sleeve
(09:44):
defensively for the second down.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yep, second down they lost about seven So second and seventeen.
Devido gets the shotgun snap three receivers to the bottom
of the pattern again and coming across the middle and tackled.
There is a penalty flag down. Might have been a
face mask in there.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Coach pass to Rock Fisher, fine receiver for Shelby did
a nice job and definitely an obvious face mask in
the middle of the field here. So it looks like
Shelby's gonna get some of that yardage back, and more so,
they're gonna be a faced with a well, it looks
like it's gonna be an automatic first down here.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, but from where they were, it's it's really gonna
list it as a flagrant, so it goes fifteen yards.
They needed about eight for the first down. After that
pace of the pass Tracktenberg was one of the tacklers.
He was not the one that caught the face mask there.
He's got his right hand all wrapped up. Pass out
(10:44):
of the backfield goes to number twelve, and he's Brady Bowman.
He's the one that could go all the way and
he does. Holy Kyle from the forty one. It's a
sixty nine yard play for a touchdown on just the
third play from scrimmage and it's a sixth nothing shall
be Whippet lead over at the Pleasant Spartans here on
(11:04):
the home field for Pleasant. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
One of the things that Shelby does very well.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Once they receiver catches the ball, he does a great
job of picking up his blockers and he had two
real fine blocks in front of him. He made a
couple cuts and he was on his way down the
sideline and they break the ice early after that first
penalty on the first play, excuse me on the sack
and ten forty two to go, Whippets are up six.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Caleb Stairs comes out to try the extra point. On
the season thirteen of eighteen a left footed kicker, and
he will go out of the hold of Nick Eister.
Kick is up plenty high enough, plenty far enough, and
it is good. Seven to nothing is our score. Ten
forty two to go. First quarter action the Pleasant Spartans
trailing the Shelby Whippets, and you're listening to the Matthews
(11:55):
Honda Akira High School Football Game of the Week on
Am fourteen ninety w MRN. And wanted to remind you
(12:16):
that the Ohio State University at Marion kickoff took place,
and now we've got another one, also sponsored by the
Ohio State University at Marion. Stay tuned for our Pillar
Credit Union player of the game and the Central Ohio's
Farmers co Op touchdown once again, fifty nine yards all
(12:39):
the way from the forty one yard line. It was
Braden DeVito with that fifty nine pass play on his
first pass attempt of the game. There's the kickoff and
taking and rolling to the ground are the Pleasant Spartan,
so they will have to set up shop on about
the twenty three or twenty four yard line.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Y burn on the on the low catch there, he
did a good job keeping it for rolling back for
even more negative yardies there.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
So Spartans are.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Going to start out.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
We've got Ringer on offense, Lowry quarterback, Hole Bailey as
one of the receivers. Colingber had a great game last
week against Harding, Dylan Burns thirteen, Drew nieder Heizel. We're
running back. In the offensive line. You've got Henry Potter,
Jordan Brown and flitchbaw and Lathan McCants will be out
of one of the wide outs.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Hand off up the middle and not much running room there.
Maybe a yard passed the line of scrimmage, call it
giving forward progress second and eight.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Yeah, pretty big defensive line there, number forty four on
the tackle for Shelby. They've got some stout people up front.
We don't really have a lot of their heights and weights,
but these guys obviously or nine to oh. And there's
a big reason for that is that's their defensive line
(14:06):
and they're gonna be able to I'm sure they're gonna
be working hard to stop the run.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
From Pleasant hand off second man through. Yeah, about a
six yard pickup. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Last week against Tarding, Pleasant lined up in an eye formation,
which is something we haven't seen from him.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
This year.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Last week they did, and they picked up some pretty
nice yards on second down. So they've got a very
manageable third down play. And so let's see what they've got.
I really like a Lowry on this type of place.
So it looks like they're gonna go empty backfield, and
this is when they like to run the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
You called it, and there it is, and he's got
an for the first down. It's a Matthews Honda Akira
first down. Well.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
One of the things that when we see these teams
three or four times a year, it's almost like we're
scout and real nice play call by coach from pleasant CJ.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Westler, and the spartan was settling down.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
They're taking their time and the thing they've got to
do is they've got to keep the ball offensively, and.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
They've got the big line that they can do it.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
It's Henry Potter Cox at center, Jordan Brown and Flinchball.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
These are the guys that make it happen up front.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Well at Lowry averaging three point one yards of carry.
He picked up five on that one. He hands it
off now to the full back and not much there.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Here's forty four in there again. Fifty one. For we
had a really strange time with these rosters. They came
in and I think they had about five names that
were right in numbers. Not to be making excuses, but
that's just the way it was. So if we if
(16:07):
I announced a player that maybe have graduated last year,
I apologize.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
There's a reason for it. Anyway, back to pass Lowry
in trouble and taken down for a loss.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Big defensive lineman there made the tackle. No good coverage
you have de veto playing in the secondary. The quarterback
he's out here as a corner. You've got number six,
You've got he's that's Nick Esther at the safety number four.
Caden Price, number twelve, who scored the touchdown. Real fine
(16:56):
player out there on the other corner.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Back in the shotgun again, two receivers on one side,
two on the other. He comes to the right side
and it's complete. It's about a ten yard pickup after
the five yard loss. Good reception there for Alex Klomberg.
He averages about nine point eight yards per reception, has
three touchdowns on the air. It's going to be short
of the first down yardage needed on fourth down, so
(17:26):
out comes the punting unit.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Yeah, Van Houston has done a really nice job this
year putting the football for the Spartan That was a
real fine throw and catch wasn't enough. Shelby wanted to
give him enough to catch the ball but not make
a first down.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Good snap, and the punt is a high one. It's
angled away from the runner, takes a Shelby bounce and
the Spartans will down it right about the thirty yard line,
so no return and the kick of about forty yards altogether.
So a nice high kick there.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yeah, it was Trackenberg down the down at first one
down there, host of others, so Shelby's gonna get their
second opportunity was six twenty seven to go up seven
to nothing in the first quarter. The Spartans have got
to slow him down. They didn't take long after that
quarterback sack in the first play of the game.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
So yeah, just a three play drive helped out by
the penalty, and then one pass play fifty nine yards.
That's our score. So de Vidos stands back and he
is going to run this one designed run around the
right side. Pleasant has it well sniffed out there.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
That's klake Ringer on the outside, real nice inside linebacker,
played outside linebackers first two years. Now as a junior,
he's really blossomed into a nice inside linebacker. When we
did their game earlier in the season, like the third
game of the season, they had to move him the line,
they had some injuries. He was willing to do it.
He's a good team player. Real nice play on de
(19:05):
veto that time.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yep, Sam Mentz are also helping out there. It's a
loss of two second and twelve. Da Vito has a
receiver in motion now he hands off to him around
the left side. Might be a face mask again, no
penalty flag down. He's slid right off of it. It's
a good job on that one by the tackler.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
And that was the running back.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Brady Bowman actually is a receiver, but he came on
an end around and real fine tackle. They're forcing Shelby
with a third and five. We talk about.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Teams like Shelby, River Valley, Ontario.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Third and five, third and tens aren't even out of
their question because they can do a multitude of things.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Yep, Bowman averages five point six yards of carry out
of that receiver slot. He does have one touchdown, so
it's not unusual for them to go his way. DeVito
drifts to the right, has a first down and knocked
out immediately by the pleasant Spartans, but not not until
after he got the first down at the forty four.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Yeah, Spartan.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
The Spartans have got to do something on the outside
to try to contain those guys before we go on.
My grandson Nico Kuzio, Nicholas and Aleni Kuzio came up
to visit me here with my son John, So I'd
like to give a shout out to those guys up
here watching the game with me and helping me.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Out here tonight. Harrison More on that tackle, second past
second completion for DeVito. Here's past number three and that's
a completion also, and that goes right back to Brady
Bowman who scored that first touchdown.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Yeah, that was a hit out let's see. Pushed out
of bounds there looked like thirty two. That was Adam scouton.
I believe outside linebacker on that side knocked him out
of bounds.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
So the Spartans have got to slow these guys down.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
They they haven't really gone deep with anything yet, Shelby hasn't,
but they've got the receivers that they can get in
the open field and obviously make things happen on long runs.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Divido three of three for seventy one yards, including the touchdown,
and now he goes to the left side as a
receiver open and enough for him another Matthews Honda Actio
first down across the fifty to the forty four yard
line in Pleasant, Spartan territory.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
That was Caden Price.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
They're doing a little quick screen out here with two
receivers on the outside in their Trip's formation, blocking on
the outside people from Pleasant. Just a methodical drive. It's
just like running the football quick screens. Perfect opportunity tonight
with great weather, good field conditions.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
And they're working their offense. Twelve yard pickup. Two receivers
on the left, a tight end on the right side,
and a receiver split out to the right. Now Divido
takes this after faking to the receiver cutting across in
front of him, up maybe three and call it second
and seven.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Yeah, they try to mix it up with We talked
before the game that the Vito has several yards running
the football one hundred and thirty attempts for one thoy
twenty two yards, so he's not he's not a just
one dimensional quarterback.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Yeah, claps the hands and this one's a pass backwards
that goes out of bounds, so that's where the ball
will be. Yes, Yeah, he passed it right at the
booth here, but he was standing a couple of yards
in front of us, and so yeah, the official Johnny
on the spot right there, he marks it out. So
that's just going to be a lateral for about an
(22:44):
eight yard loss.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Yeah, the receiver didn't even look. I think he kind
of zigged when he should have zagged there and he
was looking up field and the Vito just turned.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
And threw it out there.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I'm sure that pass has gone for big yardage before,
but boy that time and they didn't. But fortunately it
went out of bounds, and now they're forced with a
third and long.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Maybe he changed something at the line and the receiver
didn't pick up on it. Either way, they definitely weren't
on the same page. So it brings up third and
very long. They're way behind the sticks. Third and fifteen.
The veto Kenno Mancer out Eric Matcer on the outside.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
He's got twenty two sacks on the ear lading the
leg and sacks. What a fine outside defensive end and
he ran to veto down and that's no slouts because
the Veto's got a really great speed. What a fine
That's a big time play.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Right there, yeps, And that officially will go as a sack.
They were on about the forty nine and now they're
back on their own forty nine. They were on the
Spartan forty nine, so they will have to punt it
away here and I think it stares to kick it
and it's a very low kick. It squibs and goes forward.
There is a penalty flag down. I'm thinking that there
(23:58):
was some illegal motion. That's pretty good field position, coach.
They may not have them kick it again. That kick
only went about twenty two yards. We'll see.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Well, that play that Mencer just got, I'll tell you what,
that picked me up a little bit. That was exciting
to watch to see that. All the fans over here
got excited too. Hopefully that'll rub off on the offense
and they can get something going here.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Looks like there's gonna be a penalty.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Illegal motion and are they assessing it from the spot
of where it was returned to or just refusing I
think they're just refusing and it should stay right there.
It will be at the twenty nine. I believe they
still haven't put the ball down, so I don't really know. Nope,
they're moving it up.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
I think they're gonna I think Pleasant's gonna have to
try to open it up a little bit here. They
did run at the one pass in that zone coverage
and found colinberg them down. But now they're impress coverage
out here on the outside people. They haven't gone to
ring her too much this year, and he's lined up
his tight end over here on the right side.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
And around the left side. That's Niederhauser, and he gets
decent yarded four maybe five.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
That was a real nice call off that left side.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Pleasant can match up offensively on their offensive line, and
they must see something here that they're going to try
to keep it on the ground and shorten this game.
We're already down to two forty seven to go clock
running in the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Yeah, I think that's going to be one of the
keys to this game, as if Pleasant can somehow manage
to score twenty points and keep Shelby out of the
upper twenties. Or thirties or forties or fifties, which they've
done many times this year. Pass goes on the right
side and good move and how did he get away?
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Coach a real nice second, third, and fourth effort well,
Alex Column, yeh, Colin.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Ber I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
He's really blossom this year, had it fun. We talked
about the game he had against Tarting last week with
an interception and a touchdown and about six catches. So
I think there was a penalty before all that.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Yeah, they're alling zas Seguer, so I don't know if
someone was moving forward on the line. I didn't actually
see it do. We do also have a player injury
right now, so I think we will take a time
out here. You are watching or listening to the Matthews
Honda Acurate Game of the Week on AM fourteen ninety WMRN.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
We've all seen it worse, we've all felt it. Joe
Biden's economy has led to record inflation, and Ohio families
are hurting because of it. Higher costs, not enough jobs,
and it's never been harder to.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Afford a haul.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
But Jim Jordan is holding Washington accountable for the mess they've.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Made of things.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
Jordan authored the Cut, Cap and Balance plan to stop
the out of control growth of federal government debt that's
saddling the next generation. Always a fiscal conservative, Jim Jordan
is leading by example. Instead of spending taxpayer dollars on himself,
He's returned over three million of unspent office funds. And
Jim Jordan legislation to reform our broken welfare system, requiring
(27:19):
able bodied welfare recipients to work in order to receive
benefits because it's the fair and right thing to do.
Jim Jordan isn't afraid to take on a broken Washington
DC and do what's right for us because he always
puts fighting for us first.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
I'm Jim Jordan, and I approve this message paid for
by Jordan for Congress.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
The future of wealth starts with the knowledge we build today.
At Pillar Credit Union, we're not just looking ahead, We're
actively shaping a brighter financial future for the next generation.
That's why we're thrilled to introduce Zogo, a revolutionary way

Speaker 1 (28:42):
All right, back out at Pleasant High School, the Spartans
trailing seven and nothing. They've got a third and eleven
coming up. Juniterhaeuser lost a yard on the previous carry
and play action fake to him. Now the pass completed
over the middle, and what a nice reception, and again
by Alex Colomberg and the real nice play for a
(29:04):
first down Matthew's hontaker a first down up to the
forty seven yard line.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, you've got to give some credit to Owen Lowery.
He really sat in the pocket there and mister steady.
Alex Colomber sat right down in that void to that
zone and caught it with his hands. I really like
when a receiver does that. He doesn't have to cradle
it in. Boy, real nice pitch and catch. First down
for the Spartans.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
All right, shotgun snap and looking on the right side
now tucks it under and going around the sideline. Lowry
helmet to helmet contact there, but he withstands it and
it's just going to be second and eight. After a
short pickup.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
He put his helmet and shoulder down just to basically
defend himself.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Sam Works number.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Five came up outside linebacker for Shelby to put a
hit on him, and Lowry with stood the hit. Second
down to live another play. So Spartans are getting a
little bit of excitement here. On offense, receivers were covered.
Nice play by Lowry to pick up a couple did.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
A good job tucking that ball in, making sure it
wasn't going to get knocked out. Nieder Howard goes in motion.
Now he'll set up in the backfield out of the
shotgun snap and they kind of do a statue of liberty.
Snuck it into him and they brought the defense napping
and nice play. Left side of the offensive line doing
a real nice job, coach.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yeahneter Houser ran with a lot of authority on that play,
had some fresh legs and he bounced off a couple
of linebackers, got all the way to the safety and
put a hit on him. That was Cole Dorsey felt
the blunt of Peter Hauser's blow there and Spartans are
on the move right now. A little bit of excitement
here over in the Spartan to side of the field.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
I think you're right, coach. I think defensive play right
before this series got everybody fired up here in twenty
four yards now on five carries for Niederhauser, and I
think they're going to just let this clock expire. They are.
That's the end of the first quarter. So the Spartans
trail at seven to nothing, but they're on the move.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
Jim Stevenson along with John Kuzio back out at Pleasant
High School. The Pleasant Spartans have a first and ten
from the shelby thirty seven, trying to get on the
scoreboard for the first time. We've got illegal motion and
we will call procedure and move the Spartans back five yards.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
After that, it's kind of a delayed snap by this center.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Everybody else was going on the count in the center.
Uh mishandled it a little bit, and uh called for
a five yard penalty. Here Spartans in great field possession. Well,
you hated to see that quarter change because sometimes the
momentum changes starting the second quarter. But Spartans have an
opportunity here to answer only being down seven real important series.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Adam scouten comes out. Lathan mccantz comes in. He'll split
to the bottom of the pattern on the left side
of the line. Two receivers there, two receivers on the right.
They check with the official to make sure they got
seven on the line back, goes the quarterback over the
middle incomplete a real nice pass. He put it in
the only spot the receiver could catch it, but just
(33:28):
in and out of the hands of Cole Bailey, and
it'll be second and long.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Yeah, he really had a lot of a lot of
zip on that on that football, just out of the reach.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
They're finding the little pocket right there, Jim in that
zone coverage. They're settling down and uh, I think they
found something that time they went away from colinber and
went try to go to Bailey. They're they're bringing the
tight end over and they're bringing the h back in
(34:00):
the full back position.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
Quarterback under center. This time they go to Niederhaeuser, second tailback,
but he is tackled for a loss in the backfield.
So it'll be third and very long, third and about twenty.
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
The way Shelby is pursuing Lowry on that hand off,
it would be a great time for a boot action
because there's nobody staying at home. They're not disciplined on
that backside, at least they haven't shown that so far.
In some misdirection, possibly a screen or a reverse or
(34:37):
boot action and taking the tight end the other way
would definitely be something to think about.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Yeah, that back pocket play with Niederheuser worked very well before.
Now they do a quarterback draw that unfortunately goes just
about nowhere, maybe a half yard pick up with forward progress,
and that'll bring up fourth down and outcomes the punting
unit as it's fourth and very long.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Yeah, Sam Arts from Shelby came up. I think Larry
was going down anyway, but he was there to kind
of finish the play defensively.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
So Van Houston will kick it away from about his
own forty yard line, single safety for the Shelby Whippets
standing back at about his fifteen. But that kick's going
to go nowhere near him and out of bounds and
hopefully very near the twenty yard line. We'll see where
(35:34):
the official spots it a little bit above the twenty
to the twenty one. So not too bad a kick
after all.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Like to acknowledge the punter there, Ben Houston. He's a
multi faceted kicker punter and uh, these guys have really
worked hard all season. We had a real nice punter
(36:08):
we saw last week with at Harding and really a
great weapon to have.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
About thirty two yards no return and good defense right there,
not much maybe any other tackle for loss? Was that
Mertz again?
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (36:23):
And Tracktenberg came up and made the tackle. He's the
one he did.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Fine.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
He's got the glove on his cast on his right arm,
right hand and it's padded and came up. What dedication.
He's not going to miss any games. Real hard nosed kid.
And you want to start a defense with a kid
like that on and the inside, And.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
That's how I knew he didn't make that face mask penalty. Yeah, yeah,
very difficult. Doesn't have anywhere to grab what that wasn't me?
Speaker 3 (36:52):
It wasn't me.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
Yeah, he raised up his hand, he said, not me. Coaching.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
See this pink thing wrapped up?
Speaker 1 (36:59):
Thank you? Gone long, way too long though. He's just
really throwing that one away, and some good defensive pressure
by the line. There a couple of linemen in there.
I had seventy one in fifty one for the pleasant
Spartans Brady Henry and then also it would have been
(37:19):
Jensen Clark, Jensen.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Harrison Moore was coverage there, and I think de Vito
was a little upset with his receivery, like he didn't
run it out or something. But Moore was right there
and there was no way anyone could catch the ball.
He kind of threw it way too far and obviously
out of bound.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
So really a Pleasant defense is done pretty well after
that touchdown, missed three in a row now, and this
is number four in and out of his hands of
his very speedy receiver, Brady Bowman. And so that's the
third consecutive in completion. And then he also was quarterback sack,
so it's basically a three and out. Coach.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Yeah, I didn't know what Dylan Burns was doing. He
was coming from that outside position. I thought he had
a chance to pick the ball off, but he ran
right by the receiver, and boy, that that was touchdown
written all over it. The young man who had the
first touchdown just dropped out when Brady.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Bowman seeing his speed, it's hard to imagine he's only
got seven touchdowns this year, but there it is. This
is a very short kick. So Pleasant's gonna win the
battle of field position here. It's going to stay on
the Shelby side of the field. Well, I'll tell you what, Jim.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
The thing that this is kind of stacking up to
be something where Shelby's not playing very well.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Right, It was a bad punt. That was a bad
long throw.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Also, Pleasant's defense is playing pretty well. They're staying solid,
they're making good tackles in the open field. It's up
to their offense to get something going here. They can't
be waiting around for Shelby. They can put one in
here and make this and put some doubt in Shelby's mind.
This would be a great opportunity for him to.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Do that, as we mentioned, pleasants in the playoffs, but
they would dearly love to have a home game, and
Niederhaeuser is trying to make sure they do. And he's
very close to getting a first down maybe a yard
shy so nine yard pickup. Real nice play. Left side
of the line again, coach.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Yeah, that left side of the line is really doing
a great job. That's Ringer over there, number seventy one.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
That's Henry.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
He's also playing defensive tackle. They're blowing people out, making
sure Niederhauser has a way to go.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Fake it Tonedterhuser. That pass is blocked, unfortunately, so that
goes nowhere. It'll be third and very short. Nice time
to take a chance there on a third down play, though,
I think they're definitely in four down territory here, coach.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
We were calling his number forty four Carson home and
I have him for eight sacks, one of the top
sac leaders in the MOAC, so he's got the heighth
and he's definitely built to knock down passes. So we've
been calling his name quite a bit on some tackles too.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
He was in there right in the face and had
He's got a very tall frame. Also, he's one of
the tallest defenders out there, sixty three, sixty four maybe.
So there's a time out called for by the Pleasant Spartans.
They trail it eight forty nine to go in the
second quarter, and it's a seven to nothing ball game
with the Shelby Whippets on top. You're listening to the

Speaker 1 (42:09):
Good Stevenson as coach John Kuzio back in pleasant Field,
and Pleasant just picked up the first down on the
legs of Ryan Conway. He needed one, he picked up three.
And now Niederhauser takes the next carry and gets maybe
a yard over the line of scrimmage second and nine.
But Pleasant Spartans are looking good here, coach.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
They're really it looks like they're having fun tonight. They're
relaxed and they're playing. They're playing confident. They had a
win last week against Tarting fourteen to three. It's a tough,
hard fought game. They're coming into play. You know, I
don't know what the reason is, but you know, Shelby
kind of an errant hunt, making some mistakes, maybe some
(42:51):
bad throws offensively, and they're missing some tackles. So Pleasant
has got to take advantage of this situation. With seven
thirty nine to go, this is one of those things
where they can't wait on Shelby to wake up.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
They've got to take.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
It right now and go down and try to get
some points on the board.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
Absolutely, they've got a third and nine here of a
basically no gain on that play for Niederhaeuser and Ontario.
That's a tough battle last week, so maybe a little
(43:28):
bit of a letdown here for Shelby Pleasant needs to
take advantage. This one goes to Nederheuser in the flat.
He's got some running room on the left side inside
the fifteen two, the twelve and down to the eleven
yard line. Real nice pass play by Owen. Lowry hit
the receiver out there, and no one was.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Covering him, Coach, like they were in man coverage that time,
and they just ran the receivers off. They were in
twins formation over here on this side, ran them off
and Niterhauser made a real nice swing route out here
on the outside. Lowry, with great touch on the football,
hit him right in the numbers and picked up a
great big yard. He's there first down. Pleasant is knocking
(44:06):
on the door right now.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
I'm going to call that a thirty yard pass play
for Lowry. He's up to fifty four yards passing and
he will set up in the shotgun here. Nieterhuser too
has left. He gets the ball again and that reach
around and Nieterh Hauser's got some running room down inside
the ten yard line. Two the six. Yeah, this is
(44:27):
a well designed series right now.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
Offensively, they're throwing out a little swing pass, picking up
a big game.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
Now they'll give the ball on a little delay.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Peter Hauser did a nice job of finding that little scene.
And the defense cracking that defensive line looks like Jim
if I'm not mistaken, all those defensive lineman have their
hands on their hips. Yeah, they're like they're a little
bit winded, and so the spartans are coming off and
catching him, driving them back and getting a little scene
for the running back to fit through there.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
See if they go left again, they've had some pretty
good success on that left side of the line. Quarterback
runs around to the left, he throws it, but it's
out of bounds incomplete. That'll stop the clock.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
With six ten to go, we had a flag gym backside.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
Might have been a hold right in the middle of
the interior of the line. We'll see what the indication is.
I haven't seen any early indication yet. Pleasant is backing
up though, and we finally do have okay and chop block.
(45:39):
So that's a personal foul. That'll be fifteen yards. That's
very costly in that situation.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
Yeah, that's two weeks in a row. Last week.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
Hardy had a touchdown called back because of a chop block,
and so that time that really hurts.
Speaker 3 (45:55):
You go in spells.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
Then you go four, five or six or ten without
ever seeing that call. And we've gone two weeks in
a row and we've seen it. So the officials maybe
that's a point of emphasis that they talked about and
so that it's a good rule to protect the defensive
lines legs.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
So now the empty backfield, five receivers in the pattern,
Lowry looks left. Now he's running to his right. He's
got a receiver open over there and cannot hit him
in time intended for mccant's McCants and unfortunately, by the
time he saw him, he was covered by the receiver
(46:38):
or the defensive back, regardless he had Niederhauser two. Yeah,
he was right around the end zone.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Yeah, as if he did a good job as a
nice scramble play by Lowery and the Spartans almost picked
up a big game there. If McCants would have been
able to come up with it. They're forced to with
a third and twenty one.
Speaker 1 (46:58):
Here, you know they can get a first down, but
it's going to be inside the two, maybe the one
yard line. Now it looks like possibly a blitz. Four
linemen come in. Lowry gets away, but he's not gonna
get enough for the first down yardage? Is it enough
to maybe try a field goal here? I think the
Pleasant Spartans have several field goal attempts on the season.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
Yeah, Van Houston is pretty good kicker there. I'm not sure.
Let's see what looks like they're going to be on
the twenty two.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
So the uh they're going to bring out the field
goal unit.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
About a thirty seven. See where he puts the tee down.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
Looks like maybe right at the twenty five. So thirty
five yard field goal attempt, Yeah, I think he's capable
of thirty six. Is is long on the season. And again,
I think he's got four field goals made. I don't
know how many attempts he has. I couldn't find that info.
That kick is blocked.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
Yeah, I think we had some pressure there coming in
and he.
Speaker 1 (48:01):
Just think it was a thick eyster that got a
hand on it going by. But I think it was
a low kick regardless, trying to get a little extra distance.
You'd want to lower that trajectory a little bit. And
unfortunately no points with five point forty nine to go
in the first half, Pleasant trailing is seven and nothing
against nine and oh Shelby squad. Pleasant comes in at
(48:23):
three and three in the league. Of course, shall be
undefeated in the league. But Shelby playing like they're the
team that's not undefeated. Yeah, well, I'll tell you what.
We have a situation here.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
Fourteen point swing could occur here Shelby get something going
offensively as Spartan didn't score. Looks like Deveto trying to
fake the handoff and come over here to the right
side on a design run and lost his footing, went
flat down on his face there. Nobody really was around him,
and he's playing a little flat right now.
Speaker 1 (48:58):
Yeah, it wasn't a ton of this morning, But I
did walk across the field before the game started to
uh catch up with the coaches on the far sideline,
and a little bit of a wet track out especially
out in the middle of the field, a little less
grass out there, and that's right where they're at. So
he's back to pass again, looking long. He's got a
(49:19):
receiver and no penalty flags incomplete, good defensive coverage on
that one.
Speaker 2 (49:26):
You know, they just ran four seam roots right down through,
had it one on two on the outsides and then
two on the hash and hope that the Spartans only
had three guys cover. And that's the that's the infamous
four on three and the veto's a little bit off
right now. He just sort of gunned it, threw it
over everybody's head, and now they're forced with a third
(49:47):
and about twelve. Spartans could get the ball back with
five zho ninety go Jeff and still have great field
position if they make a stop.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
Here missed on his last four passing attempts.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
Sorry, sorry about that, Jim.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
You're okay. It is complete and Brady Bowman is top receiver.
Gets enough for the Matthews Honda Akira first down the
ball from the eighteen all the way up to the
thirty seven yard line a nineteen yard completion, so up
to ninety yards passing in the first half is Braden DeVito.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
You know I called you, Jeff. I think that was
just a reflex of doing so many games with Jeff
Ruth and oh, Eric's not here.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
Eric's not here tonight. So you guys are all mixing
me up.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
Well there you go. Yeah, all good. That pass is complete.
It looks like close to a first down eight or
nine yards, so it'll be second and one. Haven't picked
up the number yet is at number six. I think
it is well, Nick Eister.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
I think Shelby's waking up a little bit offensively. I
think they they said, you know, Pleasant, You've had a
couple opportunities to knock on the door, you didn't get anything.
Now it's our turn with four forty two to see
if we can get to march going down the field.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
And this one over to his favorite receiver again, Bowman,
and he's got enough for the first down. They only
needed a yard there. He picked up about six.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
That was Ryan Conway on the stop there. Real nice
block by number four Caden Price for Shelby on the
open field, and the receivers really do a nice job
of picking up their blocks on the outside. Clock is
running with four twenty to go, the Whippets are up
(51:38):
seven and nothing here over at Pleasant Field. Shelby trying
to have a little march here with a first and ten.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
And on the left side. That one's overthrown incomplete. Pretty
good coverage there again by the pleasant Spartans. Yeah, good
pressure by Sam Menzer. Really like that kid.
Speaker 2 (52:03):
We had him in early in the season at Ralfie's
and fine, young man. You know he's a wrestler and
he came out last year, wasn't real sure about football.
Speaker 3 (52:14):
And I tell you he and this Spartan.
Speaker 1 (52:16):
Only twenty two sacks this year. I'll give you an indication.
Marian Harding, I think has a total of like twenty
eight out of their top four. So yeah, one player
having twenty two sacks that hasn't heard about football, Well,
I guess you made the right choice. He's just saying
this is a run and good enough for a first down,
(52:40):
Matthew Honta akker a first down. Didn't look like much
was happening there, and then all of a sudden, scorting
through Marcus Gumbert, he averages close to six yards of carry.
He got eleven on that one, like they shot him
out of a can.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
And I kind of thought it was de veto running
through there the way you're kind of built both the
same and run really hard and bought what one little
shaken bake there and he's he's gonna be going.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
So nice drive by Shelby here they're trying to put
points on the board before this first half ends. Three
point thirty and clock ticking down and first half action
and Gumbert again gets the ball and he's got not
as much running room this time. That's what I thought
was happening last time, but then he squirt it out.
The thing with Shelby.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
You have to wonder how patient they're gonna be only
being up seven to nothing right here at the end
of this second quarter, right before the half, whether or
not they're going to try to air it out or
whether or not they're going to keep it on the ground.
Speaker 1 (53:40):
I think we had an officials time out for equipment.
I'm not exactly sure what's happening here, but regardless, it
was Brady Henry on that stop for the pleasant Spartan's
real nice play there. So it'll be second and eight
when they do come back. So, yeah, was just an
(54:00):
equipment thing because four went over and I think it
was his chin strap and he's got a new one
and he is back out there. Three receivers to the right,
one to the left, and now a little pitch play.
This is going to go as a pass, but really
just a little shovel pass.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
And they actually what they did, Jim.
Speaker 2 (54:20):
They had four receivers over here on this side, they
had a tight end and three got wide out correct yep,
one guy clear over on the outside.
Speaker 1 (54:27):
A really stread pleasant out, a well designed.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Play, a little shovel pass, as you said, picked out
some big yardage there.
Speaker 1 (54:34):
Looks like a gain of nine third and one and
Shelby definitely on the move here. They're deciding to change
the play. As the quarterback de Vito looks over to
the sideline, he's still in the shotgun. Two receivers on
either side, tight end on the right side. He's looking
left this time and has his man. It's complete, good
(54:56):
enough for another Matthew's Honda Acurra. First down down inside twenty.
See where they spot him out seventeen or eighteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (55:04):
Looks like Moore was on the cabreage for Pleasant knocked.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
Him out of bounds. You know, this is a well
designed series here.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
They got the ball with what five or so minutes
to go, maybe a little less than that, and they're
just marching down the field. A good team will do
that once they kind of get their legs under them.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
I didn't see who caught it over there. If you
happened to pick.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
It up, well at twelve was over there. That's their
Grady bow and Bowman. He's been lining up over there
pretty much on this whole series.
Speaker 1 (55:33):
All right, And we do have a timeout called four,
and I'm not sure who called it. I didn't see
the indication Shelby it is. So they'll have a couple
of timeouts left. Oh, check that they changed. It's pleasant,
So we'll take a time out here as now, let's
just keep it here, coach By, let's keep it here.
By the time I got all that in there, it's
going to be three plays later.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
So we're having them too much fun to let it
go back to the stage.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
That's right, that's right, Racelin can't have all the fun back.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
Yeah, I wonder how they're going up north?
Speaker 3 (56:03):
Where were they going today?
Speaker 1 (56:07):
Now? I forget. I think Scott was with him today.
Speaker 3 (56:09):
He was gonna help him out.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
So yeah, our trustees sideline reporter Scott is not with us,
so we lose that inside information.
Speaker 3 (56:19):
Well, we'll just have to come up with more things
to talk about.
Speaker 1 (56:22):
That's the key. That's the key. So pleasant is charged
with the timeout, and so they will have two timeouts left.
Shelby still has all theirs. I thought they called one
or earlier too, though, but it's still up on the board.
So oh, I guess it was both were spartan timeouts,
because now they've changed it from two to one. They
(56:44):
are really trying to mess us up here tonight. Coaching,
they have done an outstanding job.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Yeah, last game of the season, regular season, and I
think everybody's minds are on those playoffs.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
Man, it must be, but not you, coach. We've got
you right. We've got to finish this one before we can.
Got a little Hayes coming in here is the temperature
dips a little bit down into the fifties. Yeah, and
now we're gonna have a timeout called for again. And
this is another officials time out. This is just bizarre,
(57:15):
and I think we've got another equipment time out. Yeah,
this is the quarterback coming out, so he's actually gonna
come out and stay out for this play.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
It looks like the big defensive ends coming in to
play tight end Carson Home and he's had some good
defensive plays. Now they got him lined up in a
wing over.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
Here on this right side, and Michael Shephard is your
backup quarterback and he is two for five on the season,
so he is capable of throwing it. But he does
keep it on the ground here and he goes left
and the Pleasant Spartans have him stopped. Not much gain
at all.
Speaker 3 (57:49):
Well, the pretty safe play.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
You're not gonna throw the ball with a guy that's
just coming in there for the first play. So it
looks like de Vito's coming back in must have been
something with his helmet.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Or maybe he needed a band aid something else, you know,
bloody out there. Yeah, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (58:07):
If Pleasant can can make a stand here, this could
be big going in the halftime.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
See if this defense can maybe come up with a turnover.
They've been plus five on the season in the turnover ratio.
Little jumpy feet and completed though it is a touchdown pass.
It was a Shepherd eighteen second or excuse me from
the eighteen yard touchdown play and a little bit of
shaking bake on the feet, but a very perfect pass
(58:35):
right over the middle and he was wide open. Was Shepherd.
As you mentioned, they.
Speaker 2 (58:39):
Ran that little fake with Brady Bowman coming back in
front of a quarterback and Deveado threw it. It was
kind of high, but boy, real nice catch by Shepherd.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
That wasn't an easy one, Jim.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
That was a tough catch, but he made it and
picked the whip.
Speaker 1 (58:57):
It's up.
Speaker 3 (58:58):
They're up thirteen and nothing.
Speaker 1 (58:59):
Here. Left footed kicker calybse Stares comes out again. He
will go out of the eister hold he is. Kick
is up and it's to the left, but it sneaks
through just inside that left goal post and it is good.
So fourteen to nothing is your score. With a minute
sixteen to go. The Shelby Whippets on top of the
Pleasant Spartans and you're listening to the Matthews Hondah Accurate

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
And Joe Stevenson along with coach John Cuzio back at
Pleasant Spartan Stadium and that Pleasant Spartans have just had
a nice return on that kickoff. It was a uh
Ohio State University at Merion kickoff after your Central Ohio
Farmers co op touchdown and it's fourteen to nothing. The
Spartans trail it, but they still got a little bit
(01:00:55):
of time left and one time out remaining one minute
seven seconds before the half.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
Yeah, that that was big for Shelby to score there,
and real big for would have been big.
Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
For the Spartans to hold it with.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
One seven to go.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
They don't have the type of offense that can really
score quickly, but it looks like they're trying to go
outside on the outside to Niederhauser again picking up good
yards and there he goes. I gotta keep talking about
how they can't score quickly, because that was our fine
pitch and catch. They did the same thing on this
left side. They found something. They're running the receivers down
(01:01:32):
and they're if they're in man coverage, there's nobody covering
Niederhauser on that swing pass gym.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
Yeah, they picked up thirty yards earlier in the game
going to the left side. This time they go to
the right and pick up twenty. So Niederhauser coming out
of that backfield, Uh, they're not respecting him. And he
does have some catches coming into this ball game. So
he's made the most of it here tonight. Fifty yards
in receptions. Lowry in trouble on the backfield, gets out
(01:02:01):
of it, throws, He's got a receiver on the right
side and down near the twenty yard line. They've moved
the ball quickly and stopped the clock and they still
have that time out remaining.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Coach, well, when they hit those passes early, I thought,
you know, this is what Pleasant's going to have to do.
They can mix it up, but right now this is
big right here, with fifty seconds to go. If they
can get a touchdown on the board here and put
them down in Shelby's mind, come out in the second half.
This will pick him up the momentum. We swing back
(01:02:30):
a little bit for the Spartans here and give him
a little confidence going in a halftime.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
That was Dylan Burns on that last reception on the sideline.
Couldn't pick up his number right away, but Burns has
three touchdowns on the season. He lines up on the
far right again. They fake and out of the shotgun.
They're gonna go left side, and hey, you've got a
receiver open, but a little bit too far out of
the end zone. And even if he had caught it,
I think his would have been out of bounds there.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
That was Bailey in the corner there, Cole Bailey. Yeah,
that was a well thrown ball. He gave him some
height to make an adjustment. I don't know what happened
to the defensive back from Shelby.
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
He was trailing. Yeah, he was definitely behind him me
and they had a chance there. So give it a go.
Second and ten here and still forty four seconds to go.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
A lot of room to work here on the twenty
one yard line for the Spartans. Wins to the left
end to the right.
Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
I like the call.
Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
He ran a drag pass across the middle with Colin Burg,
but really the pass was a little bit too high.
If he would have caught it, he would really got
blasted too. But I like that drag pass across the middle.
Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
They will line it up third and ten. Here ninety
seven yards for Owen Lowery. Not a bad first half
for him.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Yeah, Lowry has really pretty good zip on the football
tonight when he needs it. That time, he threw it
just a little bit too high and the outstretched arms
of the receiver going across the middle.
Speaker 1 (01:04:11):
And back to pass again. Lowry, He's got a receiver
over the night.
Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
Touchdown, mister, study number twelve for the pleasant smarts. That's
down calinber big planes. What a catch of the middle,
comes down with it rolls into the ends. That touchdown.
He's picking the spartans up here.
Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
Absolutely. And he got knocked right after he caught that ball,
outstretched arms, hit by one tackler underneath, hit by another
tackler coming. How he held on, I don't know. He
went into the end zone. What a play Lowry, right
on target, putting it again the only place he could
Otherwise it could have been intercepted. Extra point attempt on
(01:04:50):
Now it's Chase van Houston and this is the all
important extra point blocked at the line. Guess who number
forty four got it again?
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
Coach wow, forty four he's there, playmaker tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
Defensively, Carson Holm and the senior wide out, and I
don't have his height listed, but he is definitely their
tallest player on defense and he gets those arms up.
He's just about at the gold posts anyway. And so
is it Carson home Well, you know that's that's what
we're gonna call it, whether or not it's true.
Speaker 2 (01:05:22):
Yeah, he I having for eight sacks on the year
coming in, so I'm assuming that is the real Carson Holmes.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
And six foot four is the height that the coach.
The coach did text me their lineup once we were here,
and you know, I already had to change all my numbers.
And it's been fun. But you know what, we're having
a good time and the pleasant Spartans have given themselves
a chance here. They are at least within you know,
a one score game at this point, and they did
(01:05:49):
that in less than a minute. It was a minute
thirty when they started that drive. Just thirty three seconds
now on your Central Ohio Farmers co op touchdown Lowry
again Toller, And what a catch that was.
Speaker 2 (01:06:01):
He was up in the air and he got hit
as he was catching the ball, and boy, it just
seemed like he had belcrow on his hands, and I'll
tell you what. He brought that thing down, mister steady
Alex Colimber, just what a fine catch.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Yep do, a short squib style kick and Guertz able
to handle it. He was right near the sideline. But
I think that field's getting a little bit slick in
the grassy areas too. I mentioned it looked like there
was a little bit of fog or hayes coming in,
and I think it's getting a little slick on the sideline.
He went down, So it's on a thirty five yard line,
(01:06:35):
thirty one seconds remaining. But this is a quick strike
off offense for the Shelby Whippets, so we will have
to see what they can do here. They've got still
three timeouts remaining. Coach, well, dude, just about.
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
Any Spartans have got to keep the big deep play.
They've got to get a quick pressure Jell Breake screen
out there on the outside and there lookout.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
Lookout could go all the way down inside the ten
to the fifteen or fifteen to the ten, rather as
where they tackle them. It's going to be inside the fifteen,
not quite to the ten, I think. As knee went
down first time out called for as we talked about
two timeouts remaining for Shelby, and we'll take a time
out here. Shelby on the drive already fourteen to six.
(01:07:21):
They lead it with just twenty seconds remaining on your
Matthew Honda Accurate Game of the Week on Am fourteen

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
Before that happened, well, that would have been the big
play of the half right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:46):
There for the Spartans out. They're calling time out. The
crowd thought that it was a very pleasant Spartan ball,
but it was two arms showing, not one arm. Yeah, yeah,
you'll mischell uh indicating the time out. We're going to
keep it right here this time.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Coach Paul's on the six six yard line.

Yep, you get picked up five on that run.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):

Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Michael Sheppard cut the touchdown pass in the last series,
Brady Bowman cut the touchdown pass in the first quarter,
so you got to watch all kind of guys. Oh,
number four Caden Price on that catch. They run like
to run that we called the jail break screen where
you just flip it out there and you got guys
in front of him and the Spartans have got their
(01:09:36):
hands cut tied up here. Eleven seconds to go, ball
on a six yard line for Shelby. Just a big
play here for pleasant. They had a real fine offensive series.
You know, we say, we said call him uh, we said, uh,
Coliner had a great catch. But what a fine throw
(01:09:56):
by the quarterback Lory to get it in there. And
we're going to talk about their offensive line giving him
time too.
Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
Oh. Absolutely, receiver in motion. Looking to the right, he
finds the receiver in motion. That's the touchdown for Brady
Bowman again. Brady Bowman takes it in from eleven yards out.
It is a score and wow, twenty three second drive. Yeah,
they brought number twelve Brady Bowman in motion.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
The two receivers on the outside ran quick slants and
they took pleasants defensive backs with him, and he took
a hard left, went straight up the field about three
yards and made a quick slant and de veto put
it right on the money. There was really nobody there
to cover the young man touchdown for the Whippets.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
And that is a quick strike offense right there. Twenty
three seconds they went sixty five yards extra point by stairs.
The left footed kicker is good. So it's twenty one
to six. The Shelby Whippets lead it with just seven
seconds remaining, and you're listening to the Matthews Honda Acurate

Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
All right, Jiff Stevenson and coach John Cuzio back with you.
At Pleasant Spartan Field, the Spartans the unfortunate recipients of
another Central Ohio Farmers co op touchdown at the hands
of de Vito and Bowman. Bowman scoring his second touchdown
to Vito with his third touchdown pass to give us
the twenty one to six lead over the Pleasant Spartans,
(01:12:39):
just one tick left on the clock after return of
about fifteen yards by the Spartans off that kickoff.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Yeah, the Shelby Whippets are back about thirty yards here.
They're just going to run Lowry on a quarterback run
and he gets stopped right at the forty yard line and.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
That's going to end the half.
Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
So about a seven yard pickup, but that will do
it for the first half. So our score remains twenty
one to six at the half, the Pleasant Spartans trail
the Shelby Whippets out at Pleasant Spartan Stadium, and it
was a de Vito to Bowman to start the half
and Davido to Bowman to end the half, and in
between he also caught up with wide out Michael Shepard
(01:13:26):
in the end zone. So three touchdowns there, real nice drive.
The other way, it was Owen Lowry on a twenty
one yard pass reception to Alex Colomberg. And that's been
a good connection all night long for the Spartans and
that their lone score. The extra point was blocked and
(01:13:48):
that's how we stand twenty one to six at halftime.
So we will come back and I will try to
track down some stats from upstairs if there was a
lot of stuff to keep up with, but try and
get you stuff as accurate as I can. If anybody's
up there doing that for the locals here, so hey,
(01:14:10):
I appreciate it. And it's Jim Stevenson along with coach
John Kuzio. Once again, our halftime score. The Pleasant Fartan's
trailing the Shelby Whippets twenty one to six at half.
We'll be back to bringing some halftime show and more
information after these messages.

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the week,
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:22:31):
Jim Stevenson along with coach John Cuzio back at Pleasant
High School Stadium, and uh, let you hang on to
that coach, And if I happen to mention some more
that we haven't talked about before, we'll go that route
with it. Other games of interest going on this week.
Shelby Band is coming off the field. Very nice halftime show,
(01:22:54):
first time I got to see Shelby, very strong. Jes Yeah,
a lot of numbers out there too, so Shelby does
it right all the way around. The good sports teams,
good band, gotta like it all right, Gallion Tigers, and
the Harding President's no score listed there yet, so if
you do have a score, you can try to call
(01:23:15):
it into Magic ninety five nine or join our scoreboard
show tonight after AM fourteen ninety Wmrin the Upper Sandusky.
We just had an update the Mount Gilead Indians over
the Cardington Lincoln Pirates. That's new. So fourteen to six
Mount Gilead over Cartington rather Upper Sandusky leading over Buckeye Central.
(01:23:40):
No surprise there, thirty five zero Indian Lake Lakers leading
the North Union Wildcats in another game of interest, North
Union used to be part of the MOAC. Thirteen to nothing,
the Ridgedale Rockets and the Perry Commodore is all tied
up at seven to seven. The Mohawk Warriors and the
Seneca East Tigers. This is a battle for first place
(01:24:01):
in the MOAC, and you can listen to that game
or the ND ten I'm sorry. ND ten, I'm sorry,
and now I'm in the MOAC, but not normally in
the end ten. How quickly we forget ye And my
name is still not Jeff, sooner or later I'll figure
out that's okay. Anyway, The Mohawk Warriors currently leading the
(01:24:23):
Seneca East Tigers, and they're playing at Seneca East, so
on the road they're going to have to try and
win this outright end ten championship. Both teams in first
place with just one loss, so unless they come up
with a tie, this is for outright possession of first
place in the league. The Ontario Warriors leading the Highland
Fighting Scots only ten to seven is our score there.
(01:24:46):
We're assuming these are somewhere near halftime, but no guarantees.
Clear Fork over the River Valley Vikings. A little bit
of a surprise there twenty to ten, but of course
they're probably no further than we are halftime iss the
Elgin Comets leading the Hardened Northern Polar Bears twenty to fourteen.
(01:25:07):
The game you're listening to right here, twenty one to
six the Shelby Whippets over the Pleasant Spartans. Colonel Crawford,
that game over in the end ten as well, forty
two to nothing over the Winfrey Royals. I think they're
taking out a little frustration there, years of frustration.
Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
Yeah yeah, Winford was on top for several years.
Speaker 1 (01:25:27):
Absolutely, So I just hit an update, so my score
is all jumped. So okay, Northmore Golden Knights are leading
Loudonville forty two to nothing, so they will be having
a running clock. And the carry Blue Devils forty seven
to nothing over the Busyris Redmen, and our last forty
(01:25:50):
seven on the carry score forty two to nothing on
the Golden Knights against the Redbirds, and then the Blue
Devils beating the Redman forty seven to nine the Buckeye
Valley Barons. That's probably on your next sheet. Yep, there
it is, and it's twenty four to nothing currently Buckeye
Valley with the league. So we've got the pleasant Spartan

band and I think we just got seniors out there

Speaker 1 (01:28:47):
All right, Jiff Stephenson back with coach John Kuzio back
at Pleasant Stadium and we got the pleasant band. Still
have all the seniors out there, Senior night here at
Pleasant Stadium and doing a real nice job with the band.
We'll listen to them for just a couple of seconds
here and then we'll go over some first half stats.
(01:29:18):
All right, that's a pleasant Spartan high school marching band.
We got just the seniors out there right now, and
they must make up the majority there because we've got
a few on the bench over here, but they've got
quite a few out there on the field, close to
thirty members, so I'm pretty sure that's still all seniors
(01:29:38):
out there, so real nice job. Go over some first
half stats for you. Owen Lowry quarterbacking for your pleasant Spartans.
He's got a total of one hundred and twenty check that.
Let's make that one hundred and sixteen yards. One hundred
eighteen yards on the first half. Not a bad half
(01:29:59):
at all for him. He came into the game with
twelve hundred and fifty one yards and I've got him
on seven out of ten passes or six out of ten,
I guess that is Olden Lowry also has a couple
of runs, also credited for a couple of sacks, so
(01:30:19):
just about five yards there. Ryan Conway came in and
he got a big three yard run that was good
for a first down in that first half. Drew Niederhauser,
he had thirty nine yards on nine carries in the
first half and a couple of nice catches. Definitely, Yeah,
(01:30:39):
he had a back to back a thirty yarder that
was good, took him down into scoring range. They ended
up getting a field goal attempt that was unfortunately blocked.
But definitely he has been a big weapon here and
he hasn't caught a ton of passes before this, only
averaged ten point seven yards I think gone five catches
(01:31:01):
all season long. But he's got fifty yards here tonight,
So that's just huge. And you know they've looked his
way a couple more times as well, so real nice
half for him. Alex Colimber he did get the three
receptions and he had a total of thirty eight yards
(01:31:26):
in receptions and Dylan Burns had a reception for twenty
three yards, So real nice job in the first half
by that receiving corps and really Owen Lowry's been on
target tonight, coach. I think he's done a pretty decent
job for you know what they've had. He's stayed within himself.
(01:31:49):
He's tucked the ball in when he's needed to and
made sure he held onto it. Hasn't thrown any interceptions,
so he's got ten touchdowns, eight interceptions, and but there
plus five on the season in takeaways, so that's huge.
Just hanging out of the ball when you're playing the
number one team in the conference, in a team that's
nine to zero, that's just huge.
Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
Yeah, and he's thrown different types of passes. When he
threw the pass to Colinber, he had to really zip it.
Colmber made a really nice catch.
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
The offensive line gave him the time to do it.
He also on the swing passes. He had to have
some touch, did not throw it behind him. He put
it right on the money to let Niederhauser do his
work after the catch.
Speaker 3 (01:32:30):
So he's thrown some really good passes.
Speaker 1 (01:32:32):
He maybe threw one or so that was just a
little bit off it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
For the most part, he's like you say, he's played
within himself and he stepped up when something wasn't there.
He tried to make something happen by running the football
and being smart about his game tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:32:47):
And Colinber with that catch for their loan score. What
a play that was. He had to run around a
little bit in that backfield, kept his wits about him,
kept his eyes downfield. Off one receiver found Colimber over
the middle, perfect pass right there, threaded the needle, and
then Colinberg getting into that end zone. He got smacked
(01:33:09):
with that first hit and then got hit again. How
he held onto the ball I don't know, because he
had to reach up above his helmet to catch it
and then bring it down within him while he was
getting hit twice. So that was one heck of a play.
And they will come out the pleasant Spartans in the
second half and they will have the first possession of
the second half, and so it is currently twenty one
(01:33:31):
to six is our score here. But Pleasant has a
chance to come out if they can put a score
on it. They've hung tough here with a very good
Shelby squad. I mean this Shelby squad. How many games
in the season, you know, did they score thirty five
or more points? I've got one, two, three, four five,
and then there's two three other scores thirty three or above.
(01:33:54):
So you know, twenty one has been their low output production.
They've managed to do that in the first half, but
it's been pretty good defense and the balls scored it
out a couple of times. The runner was ruled down
right near the goal line near the end of the
first half. That would have been huge if the Spartans
would have been able to hold him right there. But
a twenty three second sixty five yard drive. And you know,
(01:34:17):
what can you say about Brandon DeVito. He came out
a little bit shaky, actually, he only completed three out
of his first seven passes, but since that time he's
been just about perfect. And he toast two hundred and
seven yards on a total of sixteen attempts. And I
only had him for those four missed passes, and those
(01:34:37):
were all in the first quarter and maybe the first
drive of the second quarter before that drive stalled. But
that the Pleasant Spartan defense, I've been impressed. I mean,
this is definitely a high powered offense. They've limited the
big play for the most part. They've had two pretty
big plays, obviously, the you know, forty nine fifty nine
(01:34:59):
yard touchdown pass reception to start off the game, but
they pretty much settled down after that, and they had
the one right before the end of the half. The
other way. They were able to stop them before he
got in for the score, but just couldn't keep him
out de Vito's He's got just a ton of weapons
over there, doesn't he. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:35:20):
The thing that Pleasant needed to do in the first
half is when they found Shelby really not I don't
think they were really with it. The Whippets weren't really
with it in the beginning of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:35:33):
They weren't whip it good. We'll we'll just keep going
with really bad puns here. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:35:37):
Yeah, so, and I didn't even try there on that one.
But no, they they got off the bus a little lethargic,
looked like to me because they're looking for the you know,
the P word, the playoffs, and so this is kind
of a trap game. They had a big game last
week and they they had to expend a lot of energy,
and when you have to do that, you're playing Pleasant
(01:35:59):
and you know, I know they respected Pleasant, but they
may have thought that, you know, Pleasant only beat Harding
a one in eighteen last week and that must not
have been enough for them to come out and play
as sharp as they played last week against Ontario. But
they you know, Pleasant needed to really capitalize. But what
(01:36:19):
they have to do is forget about that first half
and they've got to move forward. They're going to get
the ball. And they found something that they can do
again Shelby. They can throw the football. Colin Burr definitely
big target, but I'd like to see him kind of
hit the ringer or somebody coming across the middle. There's
some voids in their defense, especially when they go to
(01:36:39):
run a little zone when they run man and then
they run the receivers off. Definitely, Peterhuser is open on
that swing, but I look for him to come off
of that swing with something else, some kind of a
little bit of a series I'm talking about Pleasant because
they're going to jump on that swing here in the
second half, and Pleasant has got to making Ashman because
(01:37:00):
that's a good coaching, will do that, and we'll see
in this first series what pleasants offensive adjustments will.
Speaker 1 (01:37:06):
Be absolutely and they will, as I mentioned, get the
ball to start the second half back to return the kickoff.
Colin Burr and Caudill for the Pleasant Spartans are your
deep backs.
Speaker 3 (01:37:18):
That's I think Dylan Burns.
Speaker 1 (01:37:20):
Dylan Burns twenty three instead of.
Speaker 2 (01:37:22):
Okay, thirteen, his brother christ you guys injured, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:37:27):
And this one goes to one of the upbacks and
that's Sneerhauser. So you didn't want him to have the
ball and they're finding that out as he gets it
up the midfield all the way from the twenty five
about a twenty five twenty six yard return. Real nice job.
They wanted that play to go left and Burns did
a good job waiting for that blocking to develop in
(01:37:48):
front of him.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
Yeah, he could have moved a twenty five hundred pound
car an inch on that one with a hit he
put on that tackler from Shelby and if I know
the Spartan coaches.
Speaker 3 (01:38:00):
They had a pretty good speech.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
At halftime, and we're going to see some line coming
off the football and let's see if they have something
going here. Looks like they're inserting number thirty two into
the lineup. Adam Scalden is a blocking back. Let's see
how they utilize him.
Speaker 1 (01:38:18):
They go to Niterhauser around the right side. Misdirection play there.
You'd talked about that in the first half. He'll pick
up just two on the right side. Look pretty good
to start with, but good swarming defense. You talked about
over pursuit and maybe needing some misdirection while the whole
line on that play looked like they were going left
and then they ran right with the runner.
Speaker 2 (01:38:37):
Yeah, definitely, when you play against a good defense like this,
you always have to have some misdirection in your offensive
attack just to keep them honest, because otherwise you're going
to get over pursued, over pursued, over pursuit. So you've
got to come back with something on the back side.
Looks like they're lining up in trips to the left,
twins to the right. Nobody in the backfield withou.
Speaker 1 (01:39:01):
And he's just going to run that one tucked it under,
and they've had a pretty good success with their run
game as well, which surprises me against the Shelby whippet defense.
Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
I like the call keeping the ball in Lowry's hands.
He's been a really fine runner for him. He's a
gamer senior playing on his last possible last time at
his home field. You've got to keep the ball in
his hands and let him have an opportunity to really
do something here.
Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
For the Spartans, tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:39:29):
Picked up four. That'll bring up third down and four.
Splitting out to the right side, Dylan Burns one receiver
on the left I think that's Columber, and the handoff
goes to Niederhauser. He's going to get a cup all
and this is fourth down and two or maybe three.
(01:39:51):
This is going to be a tough call for the
coach right here.
Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
He doesn't want to give Shelby an opportunity to the
ball on the forty one yard line. Their own one
forty yard line would be great field position for them.
Looks like they're going to bring in They're gonna go
for it here. They're gonna line up. This is an opportunity.
I think this is the spread formation. Yeah, they're bringing it.
Speaker 1 (01:40:13):
Brought in a couple extra wide receivers here and run
the football with Lowry. Lowry's not even in the backfield
here at all. See if they do pass it here,
three receivers to the right too, to the left, they
look to the right. Lowry now in trouble in the backfield.
Can he get out of it? He does? He throws
it in complete for the first down.
Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
Real nice scramble there by Lowery on the outside and
the receiver.
Speaker 3 (01:40:38):
Looks like was it McCants?
Speaker 1 (01:40:41):
No? I think it was number five Cole Bailey. A
couple of passes here too, when.
Speaker 2 (01:40:46):
As far as he needed to sat down in that void,
and Lowry threw a strike for the Spartans. That was
a big play. This could be the That could have
been the play of the game. If the Spartans go
down and score. Lighting scowled and over on the right wing.
(01:41:08):
Lowry in trouble again. This time he runs to his left,
running for his life. He throws it, but it completes again.
Then it's cold Bailey one more time. Yeah, he had
two feet in that would have been good in any
leg Right there he sat down, Lowry threw a side
arm running to his left. Not many people could do
that kind of a throw, and he put it right
(01:41:29):
on the money so Bailey could get one foot in bounds.
Speaker 3 (01:41:32):
He actually may had two foot. And now the change.
Speaker 2 (01:41:35):
You're moving for the Spartans and they are knocking on
the door once again.
Speaker 1 (01:41:38):
Yep, he knew exactly where he needed to go for that.
Matthew Hana actu a first down and got it. So
it's first and ten from the twenty three yard line.
Nine ozh three to go, third quarter action, Spartan's on
the move. Lowry takes the snap from the shotgun. He's
looking right. I got a receiver cold Bailey touchdown. But
there's a penalty flag down down in the backfield and
(01:42:02):
Shelby is saying it's a hole. Crowd is not happy
about that. We might have to turn the mic down.
Speaker 2 (01:42:10):
Well, they're referees over here in the Spartan fans are
not having it. Lowry was wide open rolling to his
right and there was a broken defensive coverage there. Touchdown
will be called back here. Bad break for the Spartans, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:42:31):
Unfortunate. So twenty three yard touchdown play will go for
nought and they mark it off so it looks like
it's going to be first and twenty with the ball
in the thirty three.
Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
Now, well, the Spartans can't panic here. They have first
and twenty. They can get something down here, close possible
field goal, but I think they don't want to settle
for that. Peterhauser is going to be in the ackfield
with Lowry, and they've got trips to the right in
a split single coverage over here on.
Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
The left shotgun snap. Lowry has it. Now pitches and
it's a run play to the right side, and Niederhaeuser
picks up five, six, maybe seven and number forty four.
Speaker 2 (01:43:19):
There he is again, Carson Homan defensive player six ' four,
really has a lot of range defensively and playing a
really nice game for Shelby.
Speaker 1 (01:43:32):
Forty four yards now on ten carries for Drew Niederhauser.
But he's also got fifty yards in receptions. So quite
a night already, and still got plenty of ball game
to be played here. Niederhauser sets up on the right
side of quarterback Lowry tight end on the left side.
Now in motion and procedure against the pleasant Spartans is
(01:43:57):
the early indication so they'll mark off another five, taking
back to the five yards they just gained back of.
Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
The Spartans, all the momentum they gained in the beginning
of this second half. They're kind of losing it with
the penalties here, and Uh, Shelby's defense, Uh, they're very smart. Uh.
They'll give the Spartans a little bit, but they're not gonna,
you know, give them the big play. So they're gonna
(01:44:24):
try to keep everything in front of them. Maybe give
them five to seven yard out, maybe you know, try
to tackle them. Definitely tackle them in the open field
and keep the keep the clock running and don't allow
the big play.
Speaker 1 (01:44:37):
Second and twenty they're behind the chains again. Lowry has
his outlet man. That's Niederhauser in the backfield this time.
Good pursuit and good tackle. Nice job on that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:51):
One, Danny Laughing made the tackle there.
Speaker 1 (01:44:58):
That play worked for a total of fifty yards, one
side to the left, once to the right. They went
back to the left and that one they figured out.
Did the Shelby Whippets.
Speaker 2 (01:45:07):
Well that's what I said coming into the half. Shelby
defensive coaches are going to be smart enough to figure
out that when they run that swing, they definitely have
to pick him up. Spartans then have to counter with
something maybe to the back side or something in behind
that to try to get that corner to come up
and make the play on him.
Speaker 1 (01:45:28):
Nieder Hauser goes to the right.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
This time.
Speaker 1 (01:45:30):
They've got a receiver on the left side.
Speaker 9 (01:45:32):
Touched down.
Speaker 2 (01:45:35):
Touchdown.
Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
Dylan Burns in the left corner of the m zone,
went right in for the pylon and he caught it
Ohen Lowry.
Speaker 9 (01:45:42):
What a pass that was.
Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
And the thing about Burns what he did. He didn't
reach his arms out until the last second, so the
defensive back did not He could not read his eyes,
and that's what the defensive back is supposed to be doing.
But Dylan Burns did a great job of kind of
faking like it wasn't even coming to him, and right
last second he reached his arms out and cradled that
thing in. Big touchdown for the Spartans, And we got
(01:46:06):
ourself a ball game over here.
Speaker 1 (01:46:08):
Yes, sir. And are they going for two on this one?
They are. We've got three receivers to the right. Burns
is the lone receiver to the left. Niederhauser is in
the backfield and Lowry takes it to the right. He
looks right and good for the two point conversion. That's Palimber.
(01:46:29):
I thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
Uh yeah, looks like call him, I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:46:33):
Good, Yes, it is mister right there. And I believe
Columbers already had some two point conversions on the season,
so uh, that would be his second one if I'm correct. Regardless,
it is now a twenty one to fourteen ball game
(01:46:53):
with seven oh two to go, and we're gonna keep
it right here this time. Coach, I want to make
sure that we let people know that that's your Central
Ohio Farmers co Op touchdown and two point conversion. We'll
give Central Ohio Farmers co Op again. Another mention there,
because I think I missed one earlier. So we got
the Ohio State University at Marion kickoff, and yeah, it's
(01:47:17):
a ballgame now.
Speaker 2 (01:47:18):
The Spartan fans had woke up here, let a little
bit here in the second half.
Speaker 1 (01:47:22):
What a fine series they battled off some.
Speaker 2 (01:47:25):
Penalties, take touchdown in the corner and to Dylan Byrne,
fine blocking by the offensive line, Henry Potter Cox, Jordan Brown, Flitchbawn.
Speaker 3 (01:47:34):
That could be all office again, how do you want.
Speaker 2 (01:47:39):
A real fine blocking Lowry sat back in the rocking
chair and laid one out for Burns, And we've got
ourselves a ballgame over here.
Speaker 1 (01:47:50):
Kickoff and that one knee is down there right around
the twenty twenty one yard line, so he had some
running room, but the knee hit the turf and then
high school foot ball, you're done.
Speaker 2 (01:48:01):
Yeah, you get a fumble here in interception suns, big
play and get a stop defensively for the Spartans, and
Spartans really are feeling it offensively. They can make us
into a real tight ball game here going in the
midway part of the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:48:19):
All right, and coaching staff wants an illegal block in
the back call. I think the play was over before
that occurred, so I'm not sure there. But the ball
is actually back on the nineteen yard line and de
Vito is got two receivers each side. He hands off
(01:48:40):
to his secondary running back.
Speaker 2 (01:48:43):
Play right there, big tackle for loss. That was DeMarcus Gambert. Gombert,
oh there, and he's getting up slowly. He looked like
he wasn't really running at full speed before that play.
And after that play he got rocked and he's three yards.
Speaker 3 (01:49:00):
He's getting up slowly. I couldn't really tell, but it
was a host of others.
Speaker 2 (01:49:04):
Big gang tackle over there, and Spartans are starting off
his defensive series pretty well.
Speaker 1 (01:49:12):
Fall back on the sixteen yard line, second and thirteen.
De Veto looks to his left side and that receiver's covered.
Now he's got to scramble. He's back by his own
ends on. There's a holding penalty flag. That one's completed,
but it's gonna come back. Good tackle, it would be
enough for a first down, but we will see two
penalty flags down in the early indication is holding.
Speaker 2 (01:49:33):
Yeah, it was holding for a good three to four
seconds before he even threw the ball. So right now
the Spartans excitement right now, And if they can get
this ball back and get something going and tighten this
thing up even more, they could get this really good
football team doubting himself here at Spartan Stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:49:54):
This is really fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (01:49:57):
The Spartans have been a little bit of a juck
one hide this year. They have not beat a team
that's got a better than five hundred records, so this
would obviously be a huge accomplishment. And as we mentioned,
they come into this game and position number eleven. If
they getting down.
Speaker 2 (01:50:13):
In their division five, aren't they Jim correct?
Speaker 1 (01:50:15):
So this is a division above the secondary points blah
blah blah. But they would have a chance at hosting
a home game they care to roper a win.
Speaker 2 (01:50:24):
There's a rock shot. Let's see who that was. That
was Conway, I believe, Yeah, twenty five. There was somebody
underneath when Carondenburg came underneath and Conway came to clean
it up and he put a shot on that guy.
Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
Real nice play.
Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
There's farts have come alive here. Like the kids on
the sidelines are really getting excited. These kind of games
are easy because you get excited with them. By point
thirty to go, the CLNK running in third quarter, Spartans
are down twenty one to fourteen, but they're they're playing
like they're ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:50:58):
Crowd definitely into it now. Third very long, fourteen yards
to go. The Vito's got the arm for it. Now
he's trying to run it and get it with his
legs and he's close to the first down he has it.
Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
Wow, that's a that's a backbreaker right there.
Speaker 2 (01:51:11):
When you got a kid with that much speed bore,
they had him hemmed in and he broke contain, went
to the outside, went to the left and bounced out.
Speaker 1 (01:51:20):
Fortunately tackle was made in the open field.
Speaker 2 (01:51:23):
I don't know if that was more number four over there,
but whoever made it safe to touchdown.
Speaker 1 (01:51:31):
Twenty eight yards on four carries for Braydon DeVito. That
twenty yard pickup was they needed fourteen, so he got
six extra on that play. His longest running play from scrimmage.
Now your hands and off, no one keeps it again
or this one. Here's mess up in the backfield. Yeah,
Menser hit him in the backfield, but he still fell
(01:51:52):
forward about three yards, so call it second and seven. Well,
there's a kid who loves to play football. You know.
Speaker 2 (01:51:58):
He came in as a wrestler. Talked about several times
he was in doubted whether or not he really liked it.
The boy, I tell you, played well. Last year we
called him in, he called it his name a lot.
This year he's really come into his own and leading
the league with sacks and quarterback pressures. He's very hard
to block out there on the outside.
Speaker 1 (01:52:19):
Yeah, I don't care what level you're at. You get
twenty two sacks, especially in nine games, that's just incredible.
De Vito has a pass on the left side. This
one's complete, and look out, he is gone all the
way down the sideline from the forty another sixty yard
pass play to guess who Brady Bowman one more time?
Holy cow, just that quickly.
Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
Yeah, I'll tell you that's a letdown right there. But
he hit him down the sideline. DeVito, What a cool
cat sitting back here in the pocket after that scramble
picking up the first down and wow, nice strikedown there.
Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
You got to give him credit.
Speaker 1 (01:52:58):
That's why they're nine to oh jim n Yeah, absolutely,
one hundred and sixty two yards in pass receptions, second
touchdown for Brady Bowman, and boy, that silenced the crowd there.
But pleasant spartans. They're still playing well and there's still
plenty of time left in this ballgame. It's twenty seven
to fourteen. Extra point by stairs is still pending and
(01:53:19):
the left footer kicks it up and this one goes
towards the right and it's no good outside the right
up right that time.
Speaker 2 (01:53:27):
He was also playing in the band, by the way,
did you know.
Speaker 1 (01:53:30):
Yeah, he's a man for all occasions. There were a
couple couple guys out there. So yeah, nice to see,
but that's your Matthews or excuse me, your Central Ohio
Farmers co op touchdown for the Shelby Whippets and they
lead it twenty seven to fourteen. Once again, keep it
right here. There's just so much happening, coach. Yeah, I'll
(01:53:53):
tell you what you like to see.
Speaker 2 (01:53:54):
The spartan's playing this well, winner lose going into the playoffs.
This is going to give him a little bit of confidence.
The thing they can do, obviously is after you know,
playing their hearts out tonight, whatever happens is tonight, go
out and lay an egg next week. But just playing
playing really strong emotional football right now.
Speaker 1 (01:54:17):
Well that de Vito de Bowman combination. Like I said,
how did he only have seven touchdowns heading into this
ball game? He's picked up three more tonight. So Shelby
will kick it off and they squib it again. It's
going to be Niederhauser and that did not work well
for the whipp Its last times. Got a laying again, yep,
(01:54:38):
and he gets it up close to the forty five
yard line before he steps out of bounds. I think
they'll mark him out at the forty four.
Speaker 2 (01:54:46):
You know, you would think that a team that kicks
off a lot would have a better kickoff coverage. You know,
as many times they scored fifty five last week, They've
scored fifty in another game. But Pleasant's had been able
to get very good field position after kickoffs about.
Speaker 1 (01:55:02):
Another twenty yards and they do spot them all the
way up to the forty five. For the Pleasant Spartans,
their own forty five triple receivers will go out to
the right and Lowry will look to them and he's
got two on the left side of the line. Now
Niederhauser goes in motion and he will cut in front
of the quarterback and set up on the forty pass
(01:55:24):
goes to the sideline and good for about a five
yard pickup. Real nice little play. There. Not much you
can do as a defense against that.
Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
And the other thing is and I'm gonna bring it up, Jim.
It took me till now, but being down two scores,
clock management is going to be very important. And the
young man got out of bounds. Dylan Burns knows what
the situation is. He picked up some nice yardage. You've
got to stop the clock. If he doesn't stop the clock.
Now it's running. I know we're only in the third quarter,
(01:55:54):
but when you're down two scores, you got to think
about that. Kids have got to understand the game. And
that was a real, real nice effort there. So Burn's
brought them back to within seven. But now the lead
is again fourteen, and there's a lowry of quarterback run.
Speaker 1 (01:56:11):
But he's going nowhere and our favorite very tall player
is back there, Carson Holman again with I guess it's
technically a sack of about three yards.
Speaker 3 (01:56:23):
Yeah, he's everywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:56:24):
That kid's hard to block, and he doesn't get fooled
very often. I'll tell you he's played a really fine game.
He's one of these guys. It's about six ' four,
probably two hundred and ten, two hundred and fifteen pounds,
But he goes away to college and they're gonna put
about twenty five pounds of muscle on him, and he's
going to be a beast playing that defensive end.
Speaker 1 (01:56:42):
Possession. Yeah, he is six ' four and the tallest
player on that defense coming from that right defensive end, and.
Speaker 3 (01:56:52):
I'm pretty sure he's a basketball player too.
Speaker 1 (01:56:55):
Lowry, he's gonna throw this one away. Wisely, he had
nowhere to go. He was being pursued on the right side,
and it was Cohen's starts over there forcing him out
of bounds, and unfortunately that's going to be a three
and out for the pleasant Spartans on the end completion.
Speaker 2 (01:57:14):
Well, with all of that, with all of that excitement,
the Spartans, you know, stands have gone quite a little
bit quiet here. But you got to give Shallby some
credit to Vito sitting back there. They've got a lot
of weapons and a good team like this. They just
keep playing their football game and right now they've built
(01:57:36):
a little bit of a lead here on the Spartans
twenty seven to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (01:57:40):
Well, the kick was very high and unfortunately not very
long because it went out of bounds. He was angling
it away from the would be receiver, but it is
going to go out of bounds after just a twenty
three yard net kick up to the thirty yard line.
Spartans can't let down.
Speaker 2 (01:58:00):
They've got to come up with something, a fumble, a sack, interception.
They've got to cover the receivers. They can't they can't
afford any more distance between them and Shelby.
Speaker 3 (01:58:13):
He went across the line at looked like Menser.
Speaker 1 (01:58:17):
In the neutral zone on the left side, so defensive
off sides and five yard penalty, you will make it
first and five two minutes, forty four seconds to go
and a twenty seven to fourteen lead. I think I
said fourteen point lead earlier, but the extra point was missed,
so it is only a thirteen point lead. And I
(01:58:39):
also failed to mention we had our Ohio State University
at Marion kickoff, so I wanted to get that in.
De Veto takes the shotgun snap and hands off to
Cumbert and he is stacked up in the backfield, maybe
given forward progress to the original line of scrimmage, but
no gain for Gumbert.
Speaker 2 (01:58:58):
Yeah, Cumbert hasn't really really shown much running the ball
inside because Pleasance defense will rock you when you're going
up through the middle. Their linebackers Tracktenberg and Ringer, those
guys will rock you coming there. And you got Menser
on the outside. The thing that it's been tough to
(01:59:20):
handle is Shelby's receivers.
Speaker 1 (01:59:21):
Tonight, absolutely and number one is number twelve. He has
taught one hundred and sixty two yards and passes. That's
a season for some people and there's another one. Good
for another Matthews Honda Akira first down just across the
forty yard line, maybe to the forty two and that
will move the chains.
Speaker 2 (01:59:42):
Well, you know, de Vito very impressive. He was looking
to the right and he just did a piro wet
to the left, kind of a dance move and kind
of rolled to his left and threw a strike over
there along the sideline and that was probably the ball
was in the air about thirty yards on a dark
(02:00:04):
and a line. And uh, you could tell these are
sophisticated pass routes and these kids have been working on
these all summer.
Speaker 1 (02:00:14):
Quarterback keeper around the left side, maybe one or two
on the first down run so second and eight a
minute forty seven to go. I didn't see if he
actually got out of bounds there.
Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
Well, here's where if you're Shelby, you're teaching your kids
and they should know by now if they're stay in bounds.
We talked about it. When you're ahead, you want to
stay in bounds. Do you want to keep that clock moving?
You want to be able to get on the bus
and go home.
Speaker 1 (02:00:42):
With a win. So we did stay in bounds, and
that clock tooks down under a minute twenty seconds to
go in the third quarter. Pleasant needs a stop, needs
a turnover, baking.
Speaker 3 (02:00:56):
They give it.
Speaker 1 (02:00:56):
A real pass again, no shovel.
Speaker 2 (02:00:59):
Pass, right in the heart of pleasants defense, trying to
see who the last guy looked like Tracktenberg was their
weight down him and real nice defensive play there, causing
I Shelby with a.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
Third and nine and big play here. But a team
like Shelby, we talked about it.
Speaker 2 (02:01:19):
These teams that can pass, they can run, they can
run screenplays, they can do about anything. Third and nine
is like third and two for some team.
Speaker 1 (02:01:29):
Got triple receivers to the right, Cumbert is the setback
and one receiver on the left side. Shotgun formation. Davito
looking left. Now he's going back over the middle and
he's got a receiver in and out of the hands. Ooh,
that could have been big trouble. But it goes incomplete
and that could bring out the punting unit.
Speaker 3 (02:01:49):
Yeah, number seven.
Speaker 2 (02:01:50):
Avery Lambert was the intended target, and de Vito through
a rocket just out of the reach of the receivers hands,
and like you say, he could have been touchdown and
Lowry was on coverage.
Speaker 1 (02:02:05):
Not too bad. A coverage. He had a step on him,
but so the receiver had a chance. Lowry's heart probably
sank when he saw the ball coming, but fortunately just
a little bit overthrown. This punt will go fair catch
called for at the twenty five yard line. Kind of
a not a real good fair catch, sigm I don't
(02:02:26):
know that hand got above the helmet. It was above
the shoulder, but it's supposed to be straight up in
the air.
Speaker 3 (02:02:31):
But well, it was one of those that if he
didn't see me call it, maybe I'll run.
Speaker 2 (02:02:35):
I don't know that's right, but I think the referee
was standing right there and I think he saw him
call it, and he blew the whistle immediately.
Speaker 1 (02:02:43):
All right, So first and ten from the twenty five.
Still twenty one seconds to go here in this third quarter.
Spartan's trail by thirteen not insurmountable, but you gotta start
making some things happen. Lowry, with Niederhauser in the backfield,
one receiver go in motions. So now there's a receiver
(02:03:03):
in the slot on the left side. They're going to
run it to the left side, and Niederhauser has about
a three yard pickup.
Speaker 2 (02:03:11):
Yeah, they have number forty seven was a slot that
you just mentioned and I don't have a name for that.
Speaker 1 (02:03:17):
Yeah, that's first time I've seen him tonight. Yeah, have
his number in there years. So I apologize. But he's
out there. How he's coming off, and we're going to
call the end of the third quarter. We will finally
take a time out here. That quarter went very quickly.
You are listening to the Matthews Honda Acura Game of

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:04:52):
All right, Kim Stevens long with coach John Xuzio. We
got twelve minutes a football left, coach, and a lot
of ball games to happen. Lowry back to fas he's
looking on the right side, finds a receiver. That's that
Cole ca does have.
Speaker 2 (02:05:05):
It real nice throw. Well, that thing was right. He
had to tiptoe on that one perfect throw. I tell you,
Lowery stayed with him. Cole made a late break when
as far as he needed you to get a first down.
That was a big time throw and catch right there, Jim.
Speaker 1 (02:05:22):
I think that's the third catch for Bailey. I missed
the Yard of John one. But there's been a lot
of it's been like a track meet out here. Even
the flag bearers they're they're running on the track and
now they have no shirts on for well, that's we're
not going to discuss that again.
Speaker 2 (02:05:35):
You've been doing the ten, so if you've been doing
the moyc that's a tradition over here.
Speaker 1 (02:05:39):
True.
Speaker 3 (02:05:40):
Yeah, the the the what Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:05:43):
Naked band members. Okay, well they're half naked, so yeah, the.
Speaker 3 (02:05:50):
Beginning of the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (02:05:52):
They always do it for spirit and boy, I tell
you what, they're excited to get the fans going eleven
thirty four to go box tick and second ten that
pitch and catch on the last play, pick up the
first down, Jim, that's a tense game in the season.
Speaker 3 (02:06:09):
Throw when you're really you got it timed up.
Speaker 2 (02:06:13):
That's hours and hours of practice.
Speaker 1 (02:06:17):
All right, two receivers to the right. There's a man
in the slot on the right, and now Niederhauser comes
to the right and we're gonna throw it left. After
all that, and who do we have incomplete for Burns?
Speaker 3 (02:06:29):
And he got the matchup that he wanted.
Speaker 2 (02:06:31):
He had Burns on Cole Dorsey from Shelby and jillen
Burns has a lot of speed out there.
Speaker 3 (02:06:41):
They like that match up there, trying to get a
quick one back.
Speaker 1 (02:06:44):
Dorsey did a nice job on that one. I couldn't
even see the receiver. He had them covered so well.
But no interference or anything else, just an incomplete pass.
The Lowry's had impressed me with his touch. I like
the way he lofts that ball up there, gives us
a receivers a chance to catch it.
Speaker 2 (02:07:01):
Yeah, he has thrown some different kind of passes tonight,
for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:07:06):
Three receivers to the right, two to the left on
this formation. Nobody in the backfield. Lowry looks right now.
He's in trouble in the backfield, gets out of one tackler,
gets out of a second tackler, gets some positive yardage,
maybe three or four. So that will bring up fourth
down and the punting unit is going to come out.
I was going to say, maybe decision time here near midfield,
(02:07:28):
but it's only up at the forty two and still
very early in the fourth quarter. The Spartans trail at
twenty seven to fourteen, with ten minutes and thirty four
seconds clock ticking down. Fourth quarter action.
Speaker 2 (02:07:43):
You have a very valiant effort here tonight by Lowry
on Senior night here at the Spartan field couldn't find
a receiver and got what he could, but Spartans have
to punt it away.
Speaker 1 (02:07:56):
Van Houston with a high, high, high kick and that
say bounce for the Spartans goes down to about the
thirty yard line, so not a ton of yardage, but
no return. They're going to spot it on the twenty nine,
so give him a total of twenty four yards on
the kick. Once again no return. So the biggest enemy
(02:08:19):
now is the clock. So you got to get that
ball back as quick as you can. And he got
a lot of receivers to cover there. Over on that
Shelby Whippets.
Speaker 2 (02:08:26):
Sideline, well you may see a clinic here by Shelby Jim.
With ten eleven to go, we're up two scores, twenty
seven to fourteen. You're going to see receivers after they
catch it staying bound. You may see a little bit
more running here in this series to try.
Speaker 1 (02:08:42):
To milk that clock down.
Speaker 2 (02:08:43):
They're going in a little bunch formation to the left
and there's the run.
Speaker 1 (02:08:46):
They run it to Bowman and Bowman has run it
several times tonight he gets another yard or two. Again,
they're not overly concerned with the yardage on each and
every play, just as long as they keep that clock moving.
So it's sad and the.
Speaker 2 (02:09:03):
Spartans have got to try to go for the football.
Speaker 3 (02:09:05):
Now they're down two scores.
Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
They've got to get the ball back quickly, and they've
got to try to obviously get a score quickly. But
you're going to see Shelby letting the s field clock
run down, possibly under five seconds. It's already down to eleven.
They're taking their time.
Speaker 1 (02:09:21):
It's down to the Veto's not even behind the center yet.
Now he is with five seconds to go. Yeah, and
the Vito goes to the right side. He's got a receiver.
It's completed in bounds, pushed out of bounds. He went backwards.
So will that keep the clock going?
Speaker 2 (02:09:38):
Grady Bowman, Yeah, Yeah, he's making a living tonight, Jim.
He's really doing the nice job catching that ball from
the Veto. The Veto is so relaxed back they're rolling
to his right and just zips it out just as
he's making the cut.
Speaker 1 (02:09:52):
That was good for a Matthews Honda Acura first down,
and they've got the ball set and they are not
winding the clock, so he in fact out of bounds.
Another twelve yard pickup and running out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (02:10:13):
Yeah, he should have gone down nine sixteen. He only
picked up about a yard, so really he's helping the
Spartans by not staying in bounds. That's number one Marcus Gumbert.
He really hasn't had much running room tonight and the
Spartans have put some pretty good hits on him. That's
probably the choice that.
Speaker 1 (02:10:33):
He went out of bounds. That's why he went out
of bounds.
Speaker 2 (02:10:35):
He saved himself for next week.
Speaker 1 (02:10:38):
There you go. Total of twenty passes for Brandon. For
excuse me, Braden de veto two hundred and ninety seven yards.
He's got a second and seven. Here, claps his hands,
gets the ball pressure and he gets completely over the
middle bowman. Now bowman puts on a clinic on a move.
(02:10:59):
There he turned it from the outside back to the
inside doing a three sixty picks up fourteen yards and
another Matthew's Honda Acurra first down, and once they get
the chains moved, the clocks is going to continue to
run ticking down under nine minutes. Tell you what, Braden
or the bowman Grayden bowman.
Speaker 2 (02:11:23):
Probably weighs one hundred and fifty pounds soaking wet, and
I'll tell you what. He's a football player coming across there,
catches the ball, showed some moves, smart, cutting back inside,
keeping the chains moving. Eight forty two to go in
the fock, running down at real good thing to watch
a football player like that.
Speaker 1 (02:11:43):
Play passing the backfield or behind the line of scrimmage,
I should say. But after the catch about twenty yards.
Speaker 2 (02:11:53):
Nick Ester wide receiver for Shelby with a nice catch
and run, moving to change once again staying in bounds.
Just got a text from Eric Cunningham listening to the
game here on fourteen ninety and like the you know
(02:12:14):
that's that's at least one person that's listening tonight, Jim.
Speaker 1 (02:12:17):
All right, and they're not listening to Jeff, so let's
a bonus. We gotta have fun, you know. Yeah, that's
another pass completion, and that one I believe did stay
in bounds. I didn't see who the receiver was on
the right side trying to find him.
Speaker 3 (02:12:35):
I'll be calling Eric Jim next week.
Speaker 1 (02:12:37):
There you go and Nick ice to, I'm picking on you, coach.
You know what you do, such a good job. You
make my life so easy, and then I pick on you.
That's all right, that's all right, that's all right. We're
still having a good time, so no gain.
Speaker 3 (02:12:49):
And as long as it's only once a year, there
you go.
Speaker 1 (02:12:59):
All right.
Speaker 3 (02:13:00):
I think Geric needed a vacation from me tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:13:02):
Well, definitely, that's him, that's all right. He loves he
loves working with you. I know that. All right. We
got to pass on the left side, and that again
is Eyster and he's making a living on the sideline.
This time he does definitely stay in so the clock
will stay in motion. And it's a third down and
six play. Absolutely have to have a stop here, coach,
(02:13:23):
even if it's four down two.
Speaker 2 (02:13:24):
You definitely have to have a stop. Right now, things
are looking a little bleak here for the Spartans because
they're playing and really seasoned football team. The receivers, no,
the situation. Coaches have really taught to these kids well
about clock management and how to shorten a football game
with short passes and staying in down and.
Speaker 1 (02:13:44):
If we needed more cow bell, we got them. We
got the lateral, we got the cow.
Speaker 2 (02:13:48):
Bell, so basically, so he's not going to get credited
for a catch there.
Speaker 3 (02:13:55):
He's gonna get kept credited for a run.
Speaker 1 (02:13:57):
Yeah, is that correct? Correct? Yeah? Bowman again, So we
can't add to his one hundred and eighty eight yards
and pass receptions, but he does get another three or
four yard. I'll give him three yards on the pickup.
So he's got ten yards rushing, so very close to
two hundred yards offense.
Speaker 2 (02:14:15):
Quite a player. Spartans has got to come up with
some fourth facts play here.
Speaker 1 (02:14:23):
We could let the clock excuse me, the crowd tell
the story. They're letting the clock tick down to five four.
They may not even snap it here. They may just
take a penalty and that looks like or they'll call
the timeout with one second. That coach said that's what
I want, So he had his receiver called the timeout
right by the official with one second on the clock,
and so we will take a time out here as well.
(02:14:43):
The score is the Shelby whipping Shelby Whipping's twenty seven
and the Spartans fourteen, with six thirty eight to go
on your Matthew's Honda Accurate Game of the week on
AM fourteen ninety WMRN.
Speaker 8 (02:14:58):

Speaker 14 (02:15:57):
The Matthews Honda Acura High School of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:16:07):
Tracktenberg on the carry and just enough for the first down.
On the fourth down and three, he got about three
yards and a half of football Tractenburg. You mean on
the tackle? Oh I live? Okay, Yeah, I'm sorry. So
(02:16:30):
on the run, Michael Shephard, I like it.
Speaker 3 (02:16:32):
That's okay. Six h five to go.
Speaker 1 (02:16:35):
Spartan's down twenty seven to fourteen. Got him make a
right side, got him hemmed in and it's keeping the
clock running down around the ten yard line. Boy, they
absolutely can't score here.
Speaker 2 (02:16:47):
Coach Conway's been very active tonight twenty five. Conway was
in on. It looked like I'm thinking more was in on.
It couldn't tell the second guy look like more that
I know Conway, he's.
Speaker 3 (02:17:00):
Been really active.
Speaker 2 (02:17:01):
Came in and had a real nice first down run
earlier in the game, and just that these kids are
really playing their heart out tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:17:11):
Three one hundred and fifty passing yards for bradens Avito,
showing you how he got to twenty five hundred yards
in nine games. The Vito looks left, looks right, now,
looks back left y a water catch? Is it a catch? Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:17:28):
My goodness, that's a catch of the year right there,
foot ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (02:17:31):
Carson Holman reached out with his left hand. Oh no, no, no,
now they call it incomplete official came over from the
left side and said it hit the ground before he
got posed.
Speaker 2 (02:17:42):
How he could have seen it from that left side?
He was behind him. The guy that was right in
front of him gave him the catch.
Speaker 1 (02:17:50):
Well, he ran in and started beating on the ground,
So that will make it third down and five.
Speaker 2 (02:18:01):
What an effort though, I'll tell you what. The ball
was thrown behind him. He reached back with his left hand.
All the momentum was going away from the football, and
for him to even get it to the point where
it even looked like a catch was remarkable. And this
young man, he's got a future.
Speaker 1 (02:18:18):
Yep, Carson Holman. It's just incredible. We've seen him block
a couple of kicks and that was almost the catch
of the year. I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (02:18:29):
Colinber's catch was a heck of a catch early in
the game.
Speaker 1 (02:18:32):
Too, Absolutely, Yeah, to reach up above your head, get
hit twice and somehow you bring the ball in and
go forward for a couple of yards into the end
zone after you get hit a second time. That was
definitely one of the top plays of this game. The
Veto takes the ball on the left side, he's not
(02:18:54):
going to get enough for the first down, so it's
going to bring up fourth and two.
Speaker 2 (02:19:00):
Receivers on the left side ed trips to the left.
They brought the tight end over and the other running
back and ran the ball with the veto. That's pretty
good odds to run the football in that direction with
the veto.
Speaker 1 (02:19:13):
All right up on your feet. If you're a pleasant
Spartan fan, this is the play of the game. Right here,
fourth and two, four thirty seven to go down thirteen.
Welcome to the sideline is quarterback Bradon de Vito, and
now they're gonna call a timeout, so we will take
a time out here as well. Twenty seven to fourteen
(02:19:34):
is your score of the Shelby Whippet's up by thirteen
over the Pleasant Spartans on your Matthews Honda Acura Game
of the Week on Am fourteen ninety Wmrin.
Speaker 23 (02:19:44):
I'll never forget the day I decided to go out
for the football team missed their banks. The JV football
coach and my history teacher asked me to stay have
the class.
Speaker 1 (02:19:54):
Now. I thought I was in trouble.
Speaker 23 (02:19:55):
He said, hey, Darius, have you thought about going out
for football?
Speaker 24 (02:20:00):
I think you'd be great.
Speaker 23 (02:20:02):
Fact is I never played football.
Speaker 24 (02:20:05):
Fact is I.
Speaker 23 (02:20:06):
Never had anyone tell me i'd be great at something.
So with no experience at all, I signed up and
a week later I padded up and was running drills
on the field. I never was great, but playing high
school sports was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I was accepted by my teammates, and I learned that
(02:20:27):
when someone believes in you, you can believe in yourself.
Speaker 24 (02:20:33):
Encourage a student you know to take part in a
high school sport. This message presented by the OHSAA and
the OHIO Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
Speaker 14 (02:20:43):
The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:20:50):
Everybody up on their feet, the spartans imploring the crowd
to cheer the quarterback in trouble?
Speaker 14 (02:20:58):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (02:20:58):
Menser answer? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:21:00):
How did he get out of that?
Speaker 1 (02:21:01):
He went backward five yards and he throws a touchdown?
How do they not call forward progress?
Speaker 2 (02:21:06):
Stop?
Speaker 1 (02:21:07):
Coach? He went backwards five yards after being hit by
two people. I cannot believe in the world is that
not forward progress being stopped?
Speaker 2 (02:21:17):
Well, even that if they could have broke his legs,
because hey had he bent over forward and his legs
were underneath him.
Speaker 3 (02:21:25):
I can't believe he didn't go down. But he had to.
Speaker 1 (02:21:28):
Wear wrong, young man.
Speaker 3 (02:21:30):
I tell you had to wear withal.
Speaker 2 (02:21:31):
Once he did get out of the grass to see
somebody in the end zone, I think their defensive back
sort of gave up.
Speaker 3 (02:21:38):
The whistle was not blown. He got up just through
the ball.
Speaker 1 (02:21:41):
And Carson Holman was the one on the receiving end
and two receivers in motion. That's going to be procedure. Wow.
I would have to see that one again. I mean
he went backwards at least five yards and was in
the grasp, so I couldn't believe that there was on
a whistle there. Well that's a huge play, But I mean,
(02:22:05):
hats off to him how he kept his bounce Like
you say, I mean he was wrapped up, Menser. I
mean he knocked him backwards big time. And then I
didn't see who the second player was that came up
and looked like he had him pretty well wrapped. He
went about three quarters over, somehow stood up out of
it and threw a strike into the end zone for
(02:22:26):
the touchdown, nine yard touchdown past de Vito too Homan.
Speaker 2 (02:22:32):
Well, I'll tell you what. The score thirty three to fourteen.
There is no indication of how how close this game
really was and how hard pleasant play tonight. Yeah, well
that was That was a heck of a football play right.
Speaker 1 (02:22:46):
There, all right, And they're gonna call time out here
and reset things. We're gonna just keep it right here.
But Yeahdvito, what a quarterback. All the touchdown were via
the air, five of them and score thirty three to fourteen.
(02:23:12):
And I'm not really sure why the Whippets called the
time out there, and.
Speaker 3 (02:23:16):
They're gonna use them they're not gonna take them home
with them.
Speaker 1 (02:23:19):
Well, I understand that we got four to twenty one left,
and I guess maybe they're going for two here.
Speaker 2 (02:23:26):
The thing, the thing that they're doing, they're using every snap,
every moment as a coaching moment, teaching moment to get
ready for what's coming, because I'm sure there's gonna be
some close games when they get in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (02:23:39):
Yeah. Absolutely. You know their defense has some holes, their secondary.
I mean they've been exploited tonight several times by the
pleasant Spartans. Nick Route Lowery's had a pretty good game.
That ball incomplete over the middle, and who was it
they didn't complete? I think it was Menser that came
in on that play.
Speaker 2 (02:23:57):
Conway came over, I thought he was gonna pick it
and kind of got in the way they're coming across
and made a difficult for him to catch. A nice
play by the Spartans to avoid that two point conversion.
Speaker 1 (02:24:09):
Thirty three to fourteen is our score, and four minutes,
twenty one seconds remain in this ball game. Again, we'll
keep it right here. I want to make sure we
tell you that the Central Ohio Farmers co op touchdown
was of nine yards de Veto to home in for
the Shelby Whippets and our score is thirty three to fourteen.
(02:24:31):
The Whippets over the Pleasant Spartans three hundred and fifty
nine yards, five touchdowns. Brandon DeVito now has twenty six
touchdowns only six interceptions on the season, and I'm not
sure if there's a better player in the MOAC. I mean,
twenty six passing touchdowns twenty rushing touchdowns. That's the one
(02:24:53):
heck of a football player. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:24:55):
We and young man from Ontario. He's pretty good too.
He's going to highest state as a receiver, so he's
pretty good. But as far as quarterback position to be
able to do both pass and run, the Veto definitely
has my vote on that.
Speaker 1 (02:25:11):
Yep. You give him the three point fifty nine and
twenty nine one hundred yards and ten games, so that's
averaging two hundred and ninety yards per ball game in
a high school yeah format.
Speaker 3 (02:25:23):
He's so smooth and.
Speaker 2 (02:25:26):
The ball he throws is so tight, and he you know,
he had some bad throws tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:25:31):
Everything wasn't perfect.
Speaker 2 (02:25:32):
Actually a lower He had some pretty good throats tonight
and really passed the ball just as well. But we're
talking about the veto both pass and run, and he's
playing out here at corner, playing both ways for Shelby,
and you've got to tip your hat off to him.
Speaker 3 (02:25:49):
He's a really fine player.
Speaker 1 (02:25:51):
Three receivers to the right, he goes to the right
and completed to Columber, and Columber has enough for a
Matthews Honda akra a first down. These Spartans aren't given
up yet with four h nine to go.
Speaker 2 (02:26:02):
Well, I think the Spartans have found something here a
little bit. Going into the playoffs. They've got, you know,
a little bit of a passing game going here when
they need it, and going against teams Division five teams,
they could possibly make a little run.
Speaker 1 (02:26:19):
Yeah, yep again to Columber, another thirteen yard pick up.
Back to back thirteen yard passes.
Speaker 2 (02:26:25):
Move him to the right, move him to the left.
Speaker 3 (02:26:27):
Now they're going to go down the middle with him.
Got to spread it out a little bit here.
Speaker 2 (02:26:31):
Colinbers really find it has really come into his own
this year as a receiver.
Speaker 1 (02:26:38):
Absolutely, I'm impressed. Lowry will set it up. Three receivers
to the left, one to the right. Niederhauser in the backfield,
but he's going for it all down to the end
zone and there's some interference there. There's the penalty flag.
Speaker 17 (02:26:55):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (02:26:56):
Dylan Birds was the intendant receiver and the whipp It
defensive back was kind of saying something to the official,
but boy, he was pushing him all the way. Matter
of fact, I think he pushed him out of bounds.
And Spartan's picking up a big penalty to their advantage here,
penalty against the Whippets, and looks like they're going to
(02:27:18):
have a first down. And let's see where they finally
mark the football.
Speaker 1 (02:27:22):
Cole Dorsey was the guilty party on that one. It's
going to be inside the twenty five to the twenty
four after all that, So fifteen yard penalty and three minutes,
twenty eight seconds to go. The Spartan's not done making
noise here, even if the cow bells stop. Three receivers
(02:27:43):
to the right, two to the left, empty backfield. Lowry
Shotgun looks to his left. Now he runs to the left.
He's motioning, but he's going to keep it and take
it out of bounds. Real wise play there. I think
that was pretty good defensive second coverage on his receivers
on the left side. I didn't see if he had
(02:28:03):
anything back the other way, but that would have been
a tough, tough throw.
Speaker 2 (02:28:06):
Well, he had Coliner working his way back to that side,
and he was going to the void and the deep middle,
and Larry was looking for him. You know, he's got
a guy that's very dependable and he's going to try
to go to him. But the Whippets have had really
pretty good coverage over all that time, and Larry made
a good decision, picked up a nice game about six yards.
Speaker 1 (02:28:28):
I'll tell you what, I would not want to place
these or play these pleasant spartans in the first round
home or away. I mean, they're they're showing me a
lot here tonight against this team. Passed to the right side,
he's got a receiver that's McCants getting out of the hands.
He had one outstretched hand, couldn't haul it in good
defensive coverage on that play. That was Sam Gwertz back there,
(02:28:51):
and then the quarterback also playing free safety the other
way to veto.
Speaker 2 (02:28:59):
Yeah, mccantson on the outside has some pretty good speed,
not a lot of experiences coming back out as a senior,
giving him a lot of crowd. He wanted to be
out there to try to help contribute, and he's done
a nice job this year for the Spartans. Just could
make the outreach catch there.
Speaker 1 (02:29:18):
Niterhuser goes from the right to the left and two
receivers on each side. He looks towards Niederhuser now comes
right now, he's being pursued. Now he throws it. It's
out of bounds. Caught, but out of bounds by McCants.
So incomplete.
Speaker 2 (02:29:34):
Yeah, def ball was thrown a little bit too far
to the outside. He did make the catch, but to
no avail. Looks like the Spartans faced with a fourth
and about four yards to go on about the nineteen
yard line. Here, this is going to be pretty much it.
If the Spartans don't make a first down.
Speaker 1 (02:29:51):
Yep, they'll have to get it to about the fourteen
yard line to pick up the first down. Three minutes
seven seconds left in the ballgame, Mkantz and two others
split to the right, Burns on the left side and
in motion as Niederhauser, Lowry with some decent protection, steps
(02:30:15):
up in the pocket completes it. No incomplete. Unfortunately, the
ball hit the hands but in and out of the
hands of the intended receiver Cole Bailey. And no shame there,
Cole Bailey. You've had a heck of a ballgame. He's
caught just about everything thrown his way tonight, made some
real nice catches on the sideline. Just couldn't quite haul
that one in. Yeah, Cole Bailey five.
Speaker 2 (02:30:39):
And uh, like you say, we've we've had Pleasant about
four times this year. Cole's made some really nice catch
for the Spartans, and you got to give them credit.
The thing that you know Pleasant has to do is
they have to remember the effort that they gave tonight
and come out next week, whoever they may play, wherever
it may be, and give the same effort if they
(02:31:02):
gave against a real fine Shelby team tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:31:04):
Cumbert takes it around the left side. Shelby. I'm sure
we'll be very content to run two plays and try
to pass for a first down. If they don't get
it via the run. He picks up a couple or
three yards there, clock ticking down to forty two.
Speaker 2 (02:31:20):
There'll be another twenty six seconds tick off the clock,
I'm sure, or close to that twenty one seconds on
the field clock. Shelby not in any hurry to snap
the ball hand off up the middle and not much there.
Speaker 1 (02:31:52):
Cumbert.
Speaker 2 (02:31:53):
Again, Cumbert hasn't found too much running room inside.
Speaker 3 (02:32:01):
Smartans have really bottled him.
Speaker 2 (02:32:03):
Up tonight, but they've been kind of relying mostly on
the arm and the legs of the veto.
Speaker 1 (02:32:09):
And I'll tell you.
Speaker 2 (02:32:12):
Number twelve, Brady Bowman has had a fine game and
really for Shelby, the big guy.
Speaker 1 (02:32:21):
Number forty four.
Speaker 2 (02:32:23):
Oh yeah, first and home, and we've been calling him
out both offensively and defensively all night long.
Speaker 1 (02:32:31):
Snap of the hands, Cumbert takes it around the right side,
has first down yardage, Matthews Honda Acurra first down and
that will just about to do it. Pleasant can use
their timeouts to stop the clock if they choose to,
but they're down unfortunately way too much to come back.
With a minute twenty three left. That was the longest
(02:32:55):
run from scrimmage from Gumbert. He had eleven yards on
his first carry, eight yards since and then picked up
another twelve there.
Speaker 2 (02:33:07):
Yeah, he's taken advantage of a real tired, pleasant Spartan defense.
These kids have emptied their bucket tonight. I'll tell you just.
Speaker 1 (02:33:15):
Taken a knee, and that will take us down to
about less than twenty seconds and they'll have to snap
at one more time unless the Spartans choose to call
a time out. I don't think they're going to look
like they're going to.
Speaker 2 (02:33:29):
Yeah, this is where you know, two fine teams understand
the situation and they know that there's no sense in
anybody getting hurt on some frivolous play. So Coach Westler
is not going to call a time out. Twenty seven
seconds are going to go on over and shake hands.
Speaker 1 (02:33:50):
The officials did a smart thing there. They waited twenty
seconds to spot the ball because they knew that all
that was going to happen was one more knee, and
both teams were satisfied. They lined it up, and the
clock is still not officially out yet. We've got ten
seconds to go, but the line's already three quarters of
the way across the field. So that will be our
final score, thirty three to fourteen. The Pleasant Spartans fall
(02:34:13):
to the Shelby Whippets, they will fall to five and
five overall. Robert Mahaney is fifty and seventeen heading into
this ballgame. Now officially he's fifty one and seventeen, and
what a heck of a job. He got three rounds
deep into the playoffs last season and definitely looking to
(02:34:35):
make a deep run this year in the playoffs. A
very tough Shelby squad and he's been the coach there
since twenty nineteen and has done one heck of a
job with this Shelby squad. He's got a lot of
weapons on that side. They can definitely score. I think
they've got a few holes on the defensive secondary, but
(02:34:57):
that's a fine, fine ball club. They can run it,
they can pass it. And the hats off to the
pleasant Spartans. Yes, they got beat thirty three to fourteen,
but they did make this team a one dimensional team.
They were able to take away the run less than
one hundred yards rushing for a team that averages I
(02:35:17):
think I had them down for two hundred and thirty
three was their average. You held them to forty percent
of that. You made them a one dimensional team. They
beat you in their wheelhouse, yes, but you at least
forced their hand.
Speaker 2 (02:35:31):
Yeah, you know, Shelby came here. We talked about the
fact that they had a tough game last week, had
to score a lot of points against Ontario.
Speaker 3 (02:35:40):
It was close the whole way. They had to fight
in battle.
Speaker 2 (02:35:43):
They basically had the MOC locked up and they came here.
They saw where Pleasant, you know, four went five and
four coming in this game, and I mean they respected
them obviously playing away, but they weren't real sky high
for the game like they probably were last week. They
expended a lot of energy, but they came in methodically.
(02:36:05):
They scored first. They didn't panic, they didn't get frustrated,
which some teams may do because they weren't playing well.
Pleasant was playing pretty well and they didn't panic. They
managed to keep the lead, and they showed the one
time there in the fourth quarter were Pleasant. After they scored,
they were really hyped up and they were down within
(02:36:28):
one score.
Speaker 1 (02:36:30):
And then.
Speaker 2 (02:36:33):
Shelby took it down methodically with some passes and scored
another touchdown pretty much broke the back of Pleasant.
Speaker 1 (02:36:39):
But that's a.
Speaker 2 (02:36:40):
Sign of a good team not playing at the best
of their ability, but playing well enough to win, especially
on the road. Sometimes a championship team has to win
ugly on the road, and that's what they did tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:36:53):
Yep, they do end up winning this contest. Braden de
veto with almost four hundred total yards. I had him
down for three hundred and fifty nine yards passing. Really,
I mean he missed a few passes in the first half,
but we saw very few miss cues. I think he
missed maybe seven to eight passes overall. I had him
(02:37:17):
down for twenty five passes. I think he actually threw
probably closer to thirty three, but three hundred and fifty
nine yards. Five touchdowns, all their touchdowns coming via his arm.
He was able to gather a total of thirty one
yards rushing, and Marcus Gumbert also ended up with thirty
(02:37:41):
one yards rushing. Brady Bowman had ten yards rushing, Michael
Shepherd three. That one three yard run was good for
a first down. Brady Bowman, though, on the receiving core,
Holy cow, what a receiver that is. I mean, you've
got a quarterback that's that accurate and a receiver with
the moves that he has. We'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (02:38:02):
Michael Shepherd's catching the end zone. Yeah, first half was
an outstanding catch. He's long, tall, he reached out, he
dove in the air, and that was a fine catch.
He'd actually made the veto look good on that one.
Speaker 1 (02:38:16):
Oh absolutely, and that was a huge score.
Speaker 3 (02:38:18):
There too, big score because.
Speaker 1 (02:38:20):
They started that drive with thirty seconds sixty five yards
away from the end zone. They had one big pass
play earlier, and I think Caden Price hauled that one
in for forty four yards. And then yeah, him getting
that touchdown right before the half with just seven seconds
to go. A twenty three yard sixty five or twenty
(02:38:42):
three seconds sixty five yard drive. You don't see that
too often in high school football, but we saw it
here tonight. So definitely a deserving team. Sam Wirtz and
Michael Shepard, as you mentioned, both with pass receptions and
know one heck of a one heck of a squad,
so Pleasant Spartans. They will move on in the playoffs.
(02:39:05):
It will not be a home game. They came in
at number eleven and not I don't think it's mathematically
possible for them to move up to number eight without
the victory here tonight, so they will be on the road.
We don't know where yet, but you can check out
Joe Idol online. We will take a time out here
our final score again. We'll come back with your Pleasant
(02:39:27):
Spartan statistics once I get those final tallied up. But
the final score here thirty three to fourteen, the Pleasant
Spartans fall to the Shelby Whippets, And you've been listening
to the Matthews Honda Accurate Game of the Week on
AM fourteen ninety w mrn.
Speaker 25 (02:39:45):
HI on Frick Shields. I've had a lot of different jobs,
from actress to author to clothing designer, but there's one
that's more important than all the others, being a mom.
It's the most difficult and rewarding job I've ever had.
It's also a big responsibility teaching my daughters to be
strong and independent so they can successfully navigate their own
life journey. And I'm protecting their future by having life insurance.
Speaker 24 (02:40:10):
Just like my mom.
Speaker 25 (02:40:10):
I'd give the world to protect my children's I got
life insurance before I was married because I knew I
wanted children someday. This isn't anything I was taught growing up.
It's a lesson I learned on my own and want
to share with you. Getting life insurance might feel scary
or like it's something other people do, but once you
get it, it's done and it's something most people can afford.
(02:40:34):
Protecting my family financially means everything to me. That's why
I have Life insurance and you should too. Learn more

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:40:52):
Jim Stevenson along with coach John Cuzio and thirty three
to fourteen our final tally. Here the Shelby Whippets defeat
the Pleasant Spartans. Pleasant falls to five and five overall,
three and four in the MOAC and undid are the
Shelby Whippets at ten and zero on the season, and
(02:41:12):
they were ten and three last season, So twenty victories
in two years. One heck of a program so Pleasant
has nothing to hang their heads about. Also playing up
a Division Division four team are the Shelby Whippets and
Pleasant Spartans will begin playoff action in Division five. They
came in at number eleven. Probably fall down a thing
(02:41:34):
or two, but I certainly wouldn't want to be the
team that's playing against the Pleasant Spartans. Here we will
go over some Pleasant Spartan statistics and then we'll discuss
our Pillar Credit Union player of the game. If there's
any doubt at all, the Owen Lowry had a pretty
decent night overall. He missed his last three passes, but
(02:41:58):
not indicative of the type of game had. I really
enjoyed watching him play and watching the way that he
just did not make mistakes out there. He you know,
didn't try to force the ball in. He did thread
the needle a couple of times. He did get one
touchdown that went to Alex Colomber. That was for me.
(02:42:20):
That was one heck of a catch right there. That
was my catch of the game. But he ended up
with let's see, one, two, three, four, five, sixty seven,
so thirteen of twenty passes overall, and if I can
read my writing, one hundred and seventy nine yards, So
not a bad ballgame passing for him. He had only
(02:42:40):
twelve yards rushing. But again, uh, just the way he
managed the game, managed the clock, held onto the ball
when he did have to tuck it and run, you know,
threw the ball out of bounds. You know, yes, missed
seven passes, but threw the ball out of bounds when
there was nothing there, you know, did create turnovers. He
(02:43:01):
gave his team a chance to win all night long
and drew Niederhaeuser. He ended up with just under fifty
yards rushing and Cole Bailey I had him for three catches.
I might have missed one or two there, but thirty
one yards for him. Alex Colimber had fifty one sixty
(02:43:22):
four yards. He also had the big touchdown catch, and
Dylan Burns had a twenty eight yard touchdown reception. He
ended up with three receptions for fifty six yards. Those
were the two scores for your Pleasant Spartans and Drew Niederhauser.
He had fifty yards in receptions, so out of the backfield.
(02:43:44):
That's got to be his best receiving game of the
season all season long. He averaged ten point seven yards
per catch, and just on those two catches alone, I
think he had maybe one more reception on the sideline
he only got three or four yards, so I think
he was about fifty five yards overall on the night,
(02:44:06):
Pleasant Spartan alma mater being played as the team faces
the crowd that remains and this senior night unfortunately spoiled
by the Shelby Whippets. But one heck of an effort, coach, Yeah,
very good effort.
Speaker 2 (02:44:21):
They've got to bottle up the energy that they had
tonight and bring it next week wherever they may be
and wherever they go, and.
Speaker 1 (02:44:28):
We're wishing to invest of luck.
Speaker 3 (02:44:30):
We're not real sure where Eric and I'll be next week.
Speaker 2 (02:44:34):
We'll have to look at all the games and see
we'll have to choose.
Speaker 3 (02:44:38):
It's going to be a tough one.
Speaker 2 (02:44:39):
If Elgin holds on, they have an opportunity to make
the playoffs, we'll see what happens, how things pan out.
I think they were sitting at seventeen. Obviously, we've talked
about Pleasant. They're in. It depends on where they're playing.
And River Valley was down in the game at claire Ford.
I'm not sure or if you have a score there,
(02:45:02):
how they did. I'm not sure if they had to
win to stay in. I believe they didn't have to.
But if they don't win, then I don't think they're
going to play at home River Valley, right, right, right, Yeah,
They've got to do that.
Speaker 1 (02:45:14):
So we'll take another break. Here'll let Racelin give me
an idea if we need to take any more breaks
after that. If we can do it all at once,
we'll do it all at once here and come back
one more time. But your final again from Pleasant High
School thirty three to fourteen. We do still have to
do our Pillar Credit Union Player of the Game and
(02:45:35):
thank you for listening to the Matthews Honda Accurate Game
of the Week on AM fourteen ninety WMRN.
Speaker 11 (02:45:42):
So how are the kids well.
Speaker 17 (02:45:44):
Emily made the honor roll.
Speaker 26 (02:45:46):
Oh, good for her.
Speaker 10 (02:45:47):
Yeah, we're really proud of her.
Speaker 25 (02:45:49):
Tyler on the other hand, though, what's going on.
Speaker 20 (02:45:52):
He's been moody lately, just feeling down and not like himself.
Speaker 26 (02:45:56):
Oh, we've been there. Nick was struggling last spring. He
was so anxious and stressed.
Speaker 1 (02:46:02):
Really what helped?
Speaker 26 (02:46:03):
Well, he joined the soccer team and ever since he's
been a lot happier. He has more energy, he's less stressed,
and he's definitely in a better mood at home. It's
made a huge difference.
Speaker 19 (02:46:16):
That's awesome.
Speaker 26 (02:46:17):
Yeah, I'm glad he's getting out of the house, he's
getting some exercise, and he's off his phone for once.
It's been good for his mental health.
Speaker 10 (02:46:26):
Sounds like it's been good for your mental health too.
Speaker 24 (02:46:29):
Participating in Ohio high school sports improves students physical and
mental health. Encourage your son or daughter to get involved.

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:47:00):
All right, Jim Stevenson along with coach John Cuzio, back
with you at Pleasant Spartan Field and trying to take
care of some janitorial duties here. We won't go any
further telling you about that, but thirty three to fourteen
is our final score. The Shelby Whippets come up victorious
over the home Pleasant Spartans, spoiling their senior night. But
(02:47:22):
Pleasant Spartans played well overall, and we do have to
come up with our credit Piller credit Union player of
the game. Coach, Is it as obvious to me as
it is to you? Or are you? What are your thoughts?
Speaker 2 (02:47:35):
I mean, I think you like Lowry or who do
you like?
Speaker 1 (02:47:39):
Well, if we're going with the hometown guys, gotta love.
Speaker 2 (02:47:44):
That, Yeah, we gotta go the hometown guy.
Speaker 1 (02:47:47):
Yeah, I mean definitely, I think the game management. But
Alex Colombar, I mean he played one way of a
ball game, so definitely there. And then Drew Niederhaeuser, I think,
like you said, I think they found something here. Tonight
because they were able to exploit some things. And we
(02:48:07):
talked about misdirection and they were able to create that
with him on a couple of run plays, and they
also were able to do that with the passing play.
Speaker 2 (02:48:16):
But I really like Lowry tonight because playing his last game,
it's got to be difficult, and the way he threw
he threw some touch passes out to the outside to
need a neederhauser, and he rifled the ball in when
he needed to, he took some off, he loft at
it to Dylan Burns when he needed it too. I'll
(02:48:36):
tell you what, he played with a lot of poise.
He didn't make mistakes, he didn't try to force anything in,
and he got out of bounds and picked up first
downs with his legs a little bit. And so I
really like him for that. For the player of the.
Speaker 1 (02:48:50):
Game tonight, absolutely I agree wholeheartedly. So congratulations to Owen Lowry,
who is our Pillar Credit Union player of the Game.
And I guess I have to turn my page here.
Eric made me these things, I might as well use it.
So our final score again from Pleasant is thirty three
(02:49:16):
to fourteen. The Shelby Whippets with the win Owen Lowry
is our Pillar Credit Union player of the Game. Thanks
for joining us tonight here at Pleasant. Next week, we
expect we'll have a playoff game on Friday. Again, We'll
have to wait and see. Check out Joe Idle. You
can't get any better than that. He has all the scenarios.
(02:49:36):
But we will have at least some clues on our
scoreboard show tonight and give you all the final scores.
We went over some of those at halftime, but we
will definitely let you know. You can listen to the
promotions this week to figure out which broadcast coach Couzioh
and Eric will be back on. So appreciate Eric giving
(02:49:58):
me the opportunity to fill in for him this week,
and he will be back next week for your playoff action,
whether we be following Pleasant or somewhere else in the MOAC.
A lot of teams playing well this year and many opportunities,
so'll just have to figure out which game is the
best one to bring you next week. You can go
(02:50:20):
to our WMR and Facebook page to find out where
our broadcast game will be and stick around for the
scoreboard show. Raceland graber Alec Bichelman will recap scores from
all the area games, plus they will be taking a
deep dive into the playoff scenarios for every team, and
we'll join the conversation when we get there again. Final
score tonight thirty three to fourteen. So for John couzioh
(02:50:41):
here with me and Raylin Graber back in the studio
Jim Stevenson, we say so long and have a wonderful weekend.
Good night to everyone.
Speaker 13 (02:50:51):
Those showers and thunderstorm chances are going to remain with
us here through much of the weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:50:55):
Cooling trend on the way for next week as temperatures
will cool into the seventies to kick off the new week.
Speaker 7 (02:51:00):
Scattered thunderstorms eighty one here this afternoon, more showers than thunderstorms.
Speaker 1 (02:51:04):
Tonight, low seventy
