Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jordan and studio. Today, I've got guys from a varsity
h the Marion Harding Varsity h Club, and they're planning
their annual Fall Festival and their advisor is is mister
Britt McCrary and Britain. Now, Britt, you guys done this
what three years now?
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yeah, it's our third year.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is really cool. So it's really neat tell everybody
kind of the premise of what you guys do with
the Fall Festival and then we'll talk to some of
the guys about some of the details. No, that's great.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
So ultimately what we want to do is provide a
fun and wholesome environment for our young people to come
and enjoy all the different activities that we have going.
And it really kind of originates the idea of how
much our little ones, our our elementary students enjoy getting
those their varsity athletes to come into those buildings and
(00:48):
interact with them. So this is an opportunity for these
big varsity h you know, athletes and little kids heroes
sometimes to get a chance to interact with them and
enjoy them. They'll play games with them, they'll see them
out there and certainly have a good time. So it's
a really great environment for our kids, our high school
kids to interact with the little ones and see what
(01:09):
kind of influence they actually have on them. And it's
also a great opportunity for our little kids to see
what the future holds for them and what's out there.
So it's a really great day. We've had fantastic turnouts
last couple of years, and we hope for another good
one this year.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
I love it now. It's coming up on October twenty six,
from four thirty to seven thirty, and it is at
Marion Harding High School. The emission is five dollars per car.
Hay ride, fireworks, petting zoo, trunk or treat, costume contest,
all sorts of fun stuff. The schedule begins at four
point thirty with a trunk or treat And what's really
cool is it's an opportunity for kids to come out
(01:44):
and just really have a really good time. Christian Pearson
is with us in Christian talk a little bit about
the trunk or treat you guys have planned and how
that works.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Well, you know, for Trunk re Treat this year, our
goal obviously is to have you know, far more cars
than we did last year. So what I am doing
as vice president of the club, my job is a
sort of market the market the Fall Festival and to
get the word out. So we are going to try
to get as many as many as many sports teams
(02:16):
as possible, to bring a car, try to get as
many clubs as we can, and you know, really, anyone
in the in the community, if it's an organization, if
it's a if it's a political campaign, really anyone who
would like to come and you know, bring a car
and bring some candy for the kid. You know, that
would be I love it, you know, that would be great.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yeah, I think that's a great idea. And that runs
from four point thirty to seven o'clock at the Fall
Festival event. And then they've got hay rides, They've got
a Halloween pumpkin hunt. That's really cool, Brett, you were
telling me about this is kind of like an Easter
egg hump but it's kind of Halloween theme. Talk about
that for a second.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
So we had the last couple of years, we've had
a lot of really fun success with it. Basically where
we set up our Fall festivals by the student parking
lot in the softball field and a big open area
between our Zilory gym and the softball field. So what
we do is we place these Easter eggs that are
decorated like pumpkins. We hide them all around the softball field,
(03:13):
and then we have two different sessions where we have
our pre k through third graders. I believe it is
who kind of get an opportunity to go out and
pick up eggs and enjoy themselves. And then I think
we'll have about a half hour later. I believe we've
scheduled one for the fourth and fifth graders to go
out and they're all in their costumes and they enjoy
themselves and it's really kind of cool a chance for
(03:34):
them to get candy, and if they're lucky enough to
find an egg with a wooden nickel in it, they
can trade that in for a little neater prize and
it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
That is really cool. You guys also have a petting zoo.
I guess this is kind of new. Parker. Iden Parker
talk a little bit about the petting zoo and getting
that all set up.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, or add something new of the Fall festival. We
thought it was a good idea for some the city
kids to have a rural feel and see animals they
don't typically see in the city. So it's a petting
zoo by bring the farm to you and they just
bring a couple of different animals and some pens and
kay just to pet them, maybe feed them some food,
and it's just something different for us city kids in
(04:10):
to do that's.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Neat and kind of fun. And obviously there's a costume
contest that's at six point thirty and that's pre K
through fifth grade that can participate in that. And then
they've got fireworks coming up at seven thirty and that
is courtesy of Pillar Credit Union in marrying Crawford Prevention Programs.
And you know, it's really cool because you can't do
an event like this without sponsors. And Gavin Bumgarner wanted
(04:32):
to talk a little bit about some of the sponsors.
You've got quite a few that help you guys out.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
Yeah, we've got a couple. As the treasure of the
Varsh Club, I handle a lot of the sponsorships and
the money alongside with mister mcquaria. Yeah, we just want
to give a huge thanks to Steven Adams over at
Pillar Credit Union. He's helped us out a lot along
with Joey Galloway with Crave County Prevention Center. They've helped
us a lot these last couple of years getting this
thing going and that's what's helped it grow so much. Additionally,
(04:57):
we want to give a huge thank you to Scott
Kurowski with high textal effects. He's put on our show
the last year a fireworks show and we're looking forward
to another great year of that.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
So yeah, yeah, and he helps you guys out with
fireworks on the football games too.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
A great job. Yeah, great job.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I'll tell you what. There's so many people around the
neighborhood they're like, what, what's football season? Just relax, it's
football season.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
It is.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
It is all good. But you know, Varsity H is
a really cool deal. And Jackson, I know you're the
president this year, Jackson Shipley, talk a little bit about
Varsity H, what it is and how why this is
so important to be part of. Talk a little bit
about it.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:32):
So, Varsity H is a student leg organization within the
school and everyone that wins a varsity letter then now
becomes a part of OURSITYH. And the point of VARSITYH
is we're just trying to give back to the community
and do whatever we can to help our athletes. Now,
the club was actually formed all the way back in
nineteen twenty six, but it's just recently been revived within
(05:54):
the past couple of years, and this Fall Festival has
been the big event that we've been putting on to
like get noticed to our club and make sure that
people understand what it is.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
I love it. That's great stuff. It is Marion Harding
Varsity h Fall Festival, October twenty sixth from four thirty
to seven thirty at Marion Harding High School. Admission five
dollars per car. Hay ride, fireworks, petting zoo, trunk or tree,
costume contests, just some cool stuff. I mean the fireworks
obviously are a huge thing and that really makes for
a lot of fun. And if you have a great weather,
(06:26):
what a great night for that, Brett, how cool?
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You know, absolutely it's going to be a lot of fun.
We certainly are hoping for great weather and if we
do like we have luckily the last couple of years,
we could have a great turnout and we want you
to come out. We want you to come out and
bring your kids, dressing your costumes, have just have a ball.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
With it, and I know you're sending home flyers through
the elementary schools right, So yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
We've done with great success the last couple of years.
As we take our leadership council, there's fifteen of them.
This group here with us today is the executive committee,
but the whole Leadership Council will go to the elementaries
and we'll put the flyers right in the looper lines
and make sure that every kid in the district gets
an opportunity to know about it and promote it. All
the elementaries have digital boards, we'll be advertising there. Mister
(07:08):
Mike Zucker has been kind enough and generous enough as
he always is, to the city schools and Marion Harding
to help us promote downtown on a large billboard Downtown,
so a lot of great opportunity for people, and you too, Paul,
thank for helping us out to get the word out.
So we hope to get a big turnout and make
it a great event.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Great, great, thanks for coming in, guys. This is really cool.
The Fall Festival is October twenty six, four thirty to
seven thirty at Harding High School and that information will
be coming home. You can certainly find that information out
there running around, so great stuff for you. Thank you
guys for joining the show and great information. Appreciate what
you guys are doing
