This weekend at The Marion Palace Theatre, it's the Junior Palace production of "Bringing Down The House." The show is full of over 40 local youths hilariously performing a show that has a theme of them preparing for a musical before their theater goes away... EXPLOSIVELY! It's a musical without singing... seriously! Five of the show's cast joined the podcast, along with Director Morgan Schwartz, to tell us all about the production, coming February 20-22 to the Palace Stage.

Speaker 1 (00:00):

of Bringing Down the House, the twenty twenty sixth Junior
Palace production, taking place this weekend at the Marion Palace
Theater February twentieth, twenty first, and twenty second. You can
get your tickets today by going to Marionpalace dot org.
The show is Friday and Saturday at seven, Sunday afternoon
Mattinee at two o'clock and once I said, you can

(00:21):
get tickets at Marionpalace dot org for this junior production,
so you can have a little bit of fun this
weekend and come to the Palace and see the show.
The show is directed by Morgan Schwartz, and Morgan is
here with some of her cast members. Morgan, Hello, thank
you for coming in with some of these delightful young people.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
We're happy to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Absolutely, I'm sure you are. So tell me a little
bit about the show. I'm reading that it's a musical
without any music, so tell us where this is going.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
So it follows a group of theater folk who have
written their own musical. They've rented a theater for what
believe is six weeks, so they can rehearse and put
it on stage in front of investors. They arrive at
the theater and discover it's about to be blown up,
so they have two hours to put their show together.
Rehearsals don't quite go as planned, but they do the

(01:14):
best they can.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
So what I'm reading about the show is that it's
filled with big personalities, backstage chaos, and hilarious musical content
that just quite never happens. So with that being said,
you have five members of your cast here. How big
are their personalities?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
They're pretty huge. And this is only what we have
forty three kids, so in five are here, so it's
it's quite a cast.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Okay, all right, Well let's meet a few of the
folks that are in the cast. We'll stay over on
this side first, and you play Robin. Tell everybody first
of all, what your name is and why you decided
you wanted.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
To be in the show.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
My name's Elena Adams, and I've been in a lot
of shows there and this really just sounded like a
fun one. I mean, I was probably gonna do it anyways. Yeah,
it just sounded extra fun to do, and I just
really enjoy doing them.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
I love it. How old are you?

Speaker 5 (02:10):
I'm twelve.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
And why did you start doing the junior productions at
the Palace.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
I was probably like eight when I started, So I
just ever since I was little, I've always loved to
like sing and dance and all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Oh I love that.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
So tell me a little bit about your character, Robin.
What what do you do? What can you tell us
without ruining things for the show about Robin?

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Well, at first, I'm the assistant director and really like
pleasing and like just wants to do everything right kind of.
But then I become the director and I get like
pretty bossy.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
So you go from making everybody happy to making everybody not.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Yeah, okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I get it. That's fun.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
We'll move the mic over. Our next character we're going
to talk to is Sydney.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Same deal.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Tell everybody your name and and you decided to do
the show.

Speaker 6 (03:02):
My name's Ellie Thibodeau, and I've done I did the
Palace Show in October and I really liked it. Yeah,
so I just decided to do this one because it
sounded like a really fun show to do, just like
comedy and messing around and stuff.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Is it a really fun show to Yes? Cool and
how old are you?

Speaker 6 (03:22):
Fourteen?

Speaker 1 (03:22):
You're fourteen. Well, tell me a little bit about your character.
What Sidney? What are we gonna see with Sidney when
we go to the show.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
She's very pessimistic and sarcastic and kind of just finds
the worst in every situation and isn't very like encouraging
to anybody.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Okay, Okay, well, I'm gonna put you on the spot.
Is that you? Or is that not you?

Speaker 4 (03:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
I was gonna step out and go, I don't think
that's you, So let's say it's not you. How hard
was it to create that role? Because it's a personality
that you're not into.

Speaker 6 (03:57):
It was difficult just because I'm not used to acting
that way. But it was fun to like explore a
different kind of personality and try it out.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Should we bring in mom and dad and find out
if the pessimism has moved to the house. Since this
is a new thing for you, No, No, you gotta
be a character, right, you know, one of those things.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
No, that sounds awesome.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
The show is this weekend and it's going to be
a balls Move the mic over to Jewels. We're going
to meet Jules, one of the characters in the show
happening at the Palace Theater bringing down the house this
weekend at the Palace Jeles, Hello, welcome, Thanks for being
on the show.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Tell everybody your name and why you wanted to be
in the show.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
My name is Elliana Lady, and I wanted to be
in the show because I just love acting and I've
always wanted to do a show, and this one, like
everyone says, it sounded really fun and it just looked
really cool.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
So this is your first production? Yes, why did you
decide that you wanted to do, you know, get started
or whatever, just because it felt like fun, or because
you've always wanted to be in acting? What's your big
re and to step out.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
And do this.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
I've always wanted to act, and I love acting, and
I've done a lot of plays at our co op,
but they're really fun. But I've never done anything like
the Palace, something that other people will come see and
actually buy tickets to and stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Have you ever been on that stage before you started
this a month ago?

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Yes, I've done the last two years of theater kids.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Okay, cool, So it wasn't overwhelming to walk in and go,
oh my gosh, there's fifteen hundred seats in a big
stage here, right.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
That's fun.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Jewles, tell us your Jewels character and what we're going
to expect when we see the show.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
She's really optimistic and happy and is she's just like
super enthusiastic and is finding the best in every situation,
and she's just trying to pull this show together. And
her character kind of balances out the sarcasm and everything.
And yeah, she's just really excited for the show and

(05:59):
is just not willing to give up.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Is that kind of you?

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Sometimes I have sarcasm too.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Sarcasm, Yeah, sometimes sarcasm is funds are just comes natural
and sometimes it's something you have to create. So I
get it. It's a personality trait. So some have it,
some don't. But you'll have it a little better after
this weekend when you're totally done with the show, won't you.
You'll be able to create if you need to. All right,
let's move over to the other side. And the character's

(06:26):
name is Elliott. Hello, introduce yourself to our audience. Tell
everybody who you are and why you want to be
in the show.

Speaker 7 (06:33):
My friend, Hello, I'm Deacon Gozno, and I wanted to
be in the show because we've had a bunch of
like Christmas programs at our school and I've gotten one
part out of it all. And my parents put this
in me without me knowing.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Ah, okay, so mom and dad thought, you know what.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
This is perfect for Deacon. Let's let's have him reach
out and go right. Yeah, and that's been Okay, you're
having fun. Yeah, tell me a little bit about Elliot
the character.

Speaker 7 (07:01):
Well, Elliott is he's sometimes angry, yet he's sometimes really enthusiastic,
and sometimes he's trying to find the best and worst
and everything.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, and how old are you?

Speaker 7 (07:14):
Eleven?

Speaker 1 (07:14):
So Deacon at eleven years old, it sounds like Elliott
is a typical eleven year old boy?

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Is that true or am?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
I kind of? Maybe exactly? Because that you when you're
not around. I mean, let's think about it. That's a
typical eleven year.

Speaker 7 (07:26):
Old, right, Yeah, that's pretty much me at the house.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Yeah, that's cool, that's cool. What else you do besides
do these shows? Because this is your first show on stage?

Speaker 6 (07:36):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (07:36):
Yeah, what do I do other than this?

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (07:39):
Like at home?

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Absolutely? You do sports? You play video games? Yeah, video
beat up your little brother I brothers.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
And also, you guys do wrestle probably Yeah, No, we
don't wrestle.

Speaker 7 (07:52):
My dad doesn't let us.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Oh okay, okay, well that's all right. Truth comes out,
you know.

Speaker 7 (07:58):
Yeah, we like to video games a lot. We like
to play like three player video games, and we also
like to play outside sometimes watch movies. And I do
baseball as a sport and go to school.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Oh cool, Baseball's fun. I love baseball, Deacon, do me
a favorite. Tell everybody why you think they what they
would gain, or why you think they should come to
your show this weekend.

Speaker 7 (08:23):
I think when you come to our show, you'll laugh
a lot, you'll have a good time. And well, boy,
that's insanely funny.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
I love that. That's a great reason to buy a ticket.
Pass that microphone over. We have one more member of
the cast, and I believe is this Cameron. Yes, sir,
absolutely so.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Cameron.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Tell everybody what your name is, how old you are,
and why you wanted to be in the show.

Speaker 8 (08:47):
I am. My name is Joe Johnson. I'm twelve years old,
and I wanted to be in the show because I
just I love the Palace. I've gotten to a couple
of shows there, and I thought, how cool would it
be to be on this awesome stage and like everybody
will see me? And so I went to the audition

(09:09):
and I got this part and I'm insanely happy with it.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
That is cool, Joe.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
First of all, is this your first time performing on
stage at the Marion Palace Theater.

Speaker 8 (09:18):
H this is actually my second time. I was in
the Christmas production over December.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Okay, okay, well that's cool. I love that response. So
so when you were in the show in December, did
you get that kind of response from friends, family, people
at school, church, whatever it might be of you being
up on stage. Did you feel like you got that
response that you were hoping to get why you were
up on stage?

Speaker 8 (09:42):
Yeah, I wasn't, uh.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
You want a lead or anything like that, you will
party or anything.

Speaker 8 (09:48):
I was just in the back. But it still was
like an insanely cool feeling.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
All right, Well, tell me a little bit about the
character Cameron, because I'm excited about this.

Speaker 8 (09:58):
Cameron. Is this like uptight director guy. He's always like
ticked off at everything, but like, who could blame him?
He's got an hour and twenty minutes before the show
is going to be blown to bits or the.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
Bit.

Speaker 8 (10:17):
Yeah, so he's he's got a point. So he there's
constant interruptions, like every two seconds, someone's coming someone new's
coming in. He owes at them, he choose on a
twist and uh, then he's on to the next person,

(10:37):
yos at them, choose on another Twiszler.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
So I have to ask, are you the original director?
And then Robin takes over? Is that what I'm kind
of getting here? After talking to.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Robin a little bit, yep.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
I don't want to ruin anything, but I kind of
get where it comes from. So there's a reason that
you go away and Robin becomes the director. We have
to find that out by going to the show. Is
that what I'm hearing?

Speaker 8 (11:03):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Love that?

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Okay, Okay, well there you go. So now we've got
the Robin versus Cameron that we can watch this weekend.
That is awesome, guys, thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Bringing down the House is this weekend. It's the twenty
twenty six Junior Palace production on stage at the Marion
Palace Theater this Friday and Saturday at seven o'clock. Sunday
Mattine at two o'clock, you can get your tickets now
at the Marrion Palace Theater or you can go to
Marionpalace dot org. We've got somebody having some sneezes. Don't
worry about it. It's okay. We all get sneezes every

(11:35):
once in a while. The show is sponsored by Pillar
Credit Union, Lulu's Toy Company and Punchline Treats, and it
is presented by the Marrying Community Foundation. Morgan pomp back
on the mic because you have got quite I mean,
this is only five of twenty or so that you
have in your cast.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
For forty three, you have forty three to kick.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yeah, so this is just five and these guys are riot.
This must be a fantastic show.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
It's a lot of fun. This I remember reading it
last year, picking it out and thinking this will be
so much fun to put on stage.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
And you were able to find the perfect character for
every spot, the perfect personality.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
It looks like I really think so and it is.
There are thirty seven named roles in the show, which
is huge and also nerve wracking, because if you don't
get thirty seven kids at autitions, what do you do?
But really, I think, as I've sat and watched the
last few weeks of rehearsals. Everyone is right where they're
supposed to be. It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
That should be fantastic. Tell everybody why they need to
come to the show this weekend, Morgan, Oh.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
It's a great family friendly opportunity to get out of
the house. The snow is melting, it's getting a little warm,
go out do something fun for the weekend.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
You need to go to this show. These kids are
fantastic again. I'm sure the show is absolutely the same
bringing down the house this weekend, February twentieth, twenty first,
and twenty second at the Marion Palace Theater. Absolutely agree.
If you've got to have something to do this weekend,
you might as well go. Ticket start at thirteen dollars.
You can get them online at Marionpalace dot org. You

(13:07):
can stop at the Marriyon Palace Seat box office and
pick them up. I would get them asap, so you're
ready to go to a fantastic show. Guys, Thanks for
coming in today. This has been an absolute blast. I
hope you guys are having fun with the show as
it appears and you're ready for your show this weekend.
