Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi. This Judy Copierre and I am the market president
in Central Florida. And today we're meeting with Myra Eurebe,
who was running for Orange County mayor. And this is
meet the candidate. Myra. We're so excited to have you
here today. Thank you, Thank you for having me. Of course,
so introduce yourself a little bit. Let our listeners know
who you are.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Fantastic. So my name is Marie reb and I'm running
to be the next mayor of Orange County. Great thing
about me, I'm a daughter of immigrants whose parents chose
to build their lives here in Orange County and now
I'm raising my two children, my daughter Faith and my
son Lincoln, with my husband Kevin, here in Orange County.
I was born and raised in Orange County and I
still live in the community that I was born and
(00:39):
raised in, and I love this community. Our family is
also small business owners and construction and I've had the
pleasure of working at the federal level for a former
US Editor, Bill Nelson, but currently serving as an Orange
County commissioner for the last eight years.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Very good. So what prompted you to run for mayor?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
You know, it's interesting being in the role that I've
been for eight years. I've really noticed where we've been
able to improve, where we need improvement, and realizing a
lot of the obstacles that are in the way of
and being able to improve, and knowing that our current
mayor is unable to run again. We have term limits.
I said, if I really want to see this change
is going to improve the livelihood of our community and
(01:19):
the next generation, because we're talking about jobs and quality
of life. It was now or ever, because the next
mayor is going to really set the pace for what
the next decade will look like in Orange County.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
So what experience, skills, qualification do you feel like you
bring to this role.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
I bring a lot. One as a person born and
raced here who's seen the goods and the bad. Secondly,
as a county commissioner who's been through it, who knows
how to run a nine billion dollar budget and is
currently working on one for the next fiscal year. But
also as a business owner understanding the difficulties and how
difficult it is to get through county government and that
(01:56):
process to be successful as a business owner and jobs.
And lastly being a part of this community, being a mother,
being a daughter, understanding and knowing families and what the
struggle is of affordability, of transportation, of our environment and
(02:16):
all of those things combined and prosperity, so that fullheartedly
I tell people, I'm one of us who's gotten down
this path and has a vision and a plan that's
ready to go into effect to improve the lives of
everyone in this community.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
What do you feel is the most important issue facing
our community and how would you address it?
Speaker 2 (02:38):
That's a difficult because difficult one because they actually intertwine.
I mean, I think we have an affordability crisis where
it's very difficult to afford to live here. We also
have a lack of good paying jobs that help us
live here. But we also have a broken transportation process,
and so when you combine that, it's it's very concerning
because I tell people, you can have great jobs, great
(03:00):
goals at homes. If you can't move people, you have blockades.
But we have jobs, we just don't have quality jobs
that allow you to be able to afford to live
in Orange County. When a firefighter who can save your
life from burning down doesn't make enough money to live
in Orange County, you start questioning where are we doing
this wrong? And what can we do to improve it?
(03:21):
And I do have a plan, and I think and
I know that with the confidence of the voters in
this town and making this a priority of people first
over politics, we can actually make that change.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
What would you say would be your top three priorities
once you're elected?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
It would be a number one was going to be
job development and business growth. We need our businesses to
be able to grow because there are our number one employer,
Number two transportation, and number three affordability affordable housing, affordability
in this life. And I kind of want to make
a three point five protecting our environment while we grow
and while we do all these things, we have to
(03:59):
protect our resources in our land. We can't ever replace that.
And we don't need more concrete jungles. We've got to
have that green space too for our future.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
What would you like voters to know about you that
distinguishes you from the other candidates?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Well, I tell voters all the time what makes me different.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
One.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
I'm born and raised here. I still live in the
same community that I was raised in because I believe
wholeheartedly that you bring your community with you, you don't
abandon it. I've been at the federal, state, and local level.
I've been in the private sector, and for the last
eight years, I've served this community with pride and honor,
and I will wake up every day realizing that the
number one person that I represent are the people who
(04:42):
live here, not the status quo. I will wake up
every day honoring the trust and vote you put in me,
and with that, I know that we can all benefit,
especially our children, our grandchildren, and the next generation that
we're going to leave this incredible town to. And I
firmly believe that we still have our better days ahead
of us and behind us.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Well, thank you, Myra, it was so nice to meet
you today. And again, this is Myra Uribe running for
Orange County mayor. Pleasure to have you in with means
very much.
