Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon. This is Andy Harrishu.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm with iHeartMedia, senior vice president of sales in Orlando, Florida,
and here with Antonio Pizza, running for Seminole County school
Board District one.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
How are you doing today?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Antonio doing great? How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
I'm doing wonderful? Thanks? Hi, Antonio, Please introduce yourself to
our listeners.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
So I'm Antonio Pizza. I recently graduated from Poor J.
Hagridy High School, part of class of twenty twenty five.
I'm currently majoring at UCF in political science. I just
finished my freshman year and I am one of the
youngest people to run for Seminole County school Board.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
And what prompted you to run for this office.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I not only saw the effects of the current board's policies,
I lived them. And though I had an excellent education
in Seminole County, I saw that a lot of my
peers didn't. From the fights and the schools, from the
drug use in the schools, from the disrespect we gave
to our teachers and staff. And I really just thought
I could really get in there and make a change.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
And what do you feel is the most important and
issue you want to address.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
The most important issue is the debt the current school
boards and the current school board put us around seventeen
million dollars in debt, and recent news says they're going
to go with thirty million in debt this next coming years.
We can't really address all the other issues facing our
school system until we handle the debt that's plaguing all
of us.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
What life experience do you feel best qualifies you for
this position.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
I think my experience of actually attending an SCPs school,
but most certainly it's how recent I attended it. We're
in a new era of learning. The way we learn
and the way we're teaching, and the learning environment has
changed from not only ten years ago, but even the
last five years since COVID. I've gone through the system
I've lived in, so I know that that has equipped
(01:46):
me with the experience to handle the new problems facing
our generation.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
What differentiates you from the other candidates running for the seat.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
I think what really differensions mean is my age and
my experience inside the schools, but also in politics. Since
my freshman year of high school in twenty twenty one,
I've worked on five political campaigns, going from all the
way to a Senate campaign to local school board campaigns.
Also so I know the issues and I know how
to work a campaign. But also my experience of just
(02:15):
being in the school system allows me to know what's
going on from the day to day operations compared to
someone who's looking at it from an outside perspective.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
What would be your top three priorities? One selected, so
the first one.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Would be the debt. The second one would be keeping
the best out of the best teachers. This year we
fired a teacher of the year, which I think is crazy.
But other than that, it would definitely be mental health.
Three students in Seminole County Public schools took their life
this year because of mental health. We really need to
address that, and our current system is just playing mental
(02:50):
health videos. I puppose we go in and we team
up with a local nonprofit to get real mental health
counselors in the school to prevent any more students and
taking that life.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Antonio, thank you so much for coming in today and
sharing your views. This is Antonio Pizza running for Salmonole
County school Board District one.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Thank you guys so much. Don't forget to voute. August
eighteenth for pizza, because the pizza always delivers. Thank you,
