Speaker 1 (00:00):
And good morning in the Big Three, the CEO of
the nation's largest healthcare insurance company, United Healthcare, is gunned
down in New York City.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
You know this is not a random attack, I can
tell you. This is more of like an assassination attempt.
There was a pre planned motive definitely here. I don't
know who the individual was. Was this that hitman? Was
this someone who was disgruntled, But there is no coincidence here.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
The manhunt is on for the assassin who fled the
scene on a city bike and then disappeared into Central Park.
No verdict than the Daniel Penny trial yet, as the
jury asks for more evidence and testimony to review.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Criminally negligent homicide is actually what's called a lesser including
offense of manslaughter. So basically it has a lower mensral,
a lower intent. So instead of recklessness, it's criminal negligence.
So it's one or the other, manslaughter being the higher
level charge.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
They are the two charges against them. You can only
choose one. You can't find him guilty of both because
they're duplicitous. Jury deliberations continue today and Donald Trump's nominee
for Secretary of Defense veteran and Fox News host Pete
Hegseth is not giving up the fight, despite accusations of
(01:20):
sexual misconduct, heavy drinking, and financial mismanagement. Heg Seth says
he is the man Donald Trump wants for the job.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
He said, I want a warfire. I want lethality, lethality, lethality.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
I want readiness, accountability, standards, warfighting.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Pete, that's you, that's me, clean house.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Add an extra added story, how can we forget? The
Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center is officially lit? And with that,
(02:04):
the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is now shining bright on
view for all through mid January. The tree will be
lit daily from five am to midnight, and on Christmas
Eve it'll be lit for twenty four hours, and on
New Year's Eve from five am to nine pm. So
go out and enjoy it. It was a that was
(02:27):
a wonderful end to a really tough day in New York.
The NYPD has escalated its search right now, it's an
all out manhunt for the assassin who killed fifty year
old United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in an early morning shooting.
I think you've probably seen the surveillance video by now.
(02:47):
It's shocking. Surveillance footage captured the whole thing that the
horror unfolded at around six forty five in the morning,
right outside the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan. Thompson was seen
walking in front of the hotel when all of a sudden,
entering into the picture as a masked assailant. He drew
(03:10):
out a large gun and it seemed to be fitted
with a silencer to.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
Shoot the steps onto the sidewalk from behind the car.
He ignores numerous other pedestrians, approaches the victim from behind
and shoots him in the back to shoot it them,
walks towards the victim and continues to shoot It.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Appears that the gun.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Malfunctions as he clears the jam and begins to fire
again to shoot it them. Flees on foot northbound into
an alleyway between fifty fourth Street and fifty fifth Street.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Yeah, you can see in the video that the shooter
is dressed in all black with his face mostly obscured
except for his eyes by a ski mask. The images,
by the way, were taken by a nearby Starbucks. They
went to every surveillance camera in the area. That's the
tough thing about any of these crimes because every thing
(04:00):
is recorded, but this guy, whoever he is, took account
for all of that. He even knew where his getaway
bike was. It seems obvious now that everything is out,
but after it happened, the new police Commissioner, Jessica Tish,
made certain everyone knew that the shooter just wasn't going
(04:24):
to run rampant through the city. He was after one guy,
and one guy only.
Speaker 7 (04:29):
This does not appear to be a random act of violence.
The victim was in New York City to speak at
an investor conference. It appears a suspect was lying in
wait for several minutes.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
A little bit about Thompson. He was named United Healthcare
CEO just a couple of years ago in twenty twenty one.
He earns a reported ten million dollars a year and
is worth over one hundred million dollars. For several years
prior to that, he ran the medicare business, so he
was still making me millions doing that for United Healthcare.
(05:02):
He leaves behind a wife and two children in Minnesota,
and his wife confirms that there were death threats against
his life, another fact that is confirmed by several eyewitnesses.
The shooter again had a face mask. He had apparently
been waiting for hours at the Hilton Hotel because he
(05:24):
knew Thompson was scheduled to speak at an investors meeting,
so the assassin knew he was going to be there
and waited for him to show up. This all according
to witnesses.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
But the guy, he was here in this corner the
whole night. Yeah, who is on the corner the guy
who shoot the guy?
Speaker 8 (05:42):
He waiting for the guy they shoot up and he
just inside the car waiting for him.
Speaker 9 (05:48):
Soon he see him, just shot him.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
And then there's people that saw the shooting. He didn't
care who saw him. He had taken into account everything.
And then of course, oh by the way, one real
important note is that he was shooting. So he fired
the first shot which made the Thompson fall down to
(06:11):
the ground. Then he went up and fired a few
more shots. And apparently this is a big deal to investigators.
His gun malfunctioned, but he took care of it immediately.
He didn't even appear to look down at the gun.
He just knew what he was doing. So they said,
this guy is a train shooter. That's really difficult to do.
(06:31):
And he fixed it with no problem. And then continued
shooting and then the getaway. He jumped on a city bike,
so apparently he knew there was going to be a
city bike nearby and drove to Central Park where there
are fewer security cameras. Now they know he went to
Central Park, not only because of the spalance cameras, but
(06:52):
there's GPS on the city bikes. Now, he had a backpack,
and Natalie and I were talking about this, he probably
had a change of clothes and maybe maybe another thing
to disguise himself because he obviously knew about the surveillance
cameras and so he's right now disappeared. It seemed to
(07:15):
be an impeccably planned hit, So the question remains out
there was he what hired gun? Now, several FBI officials
say there really aren't hired guns anymore. It's if you
go to try to find a hired gun, chances are
it's going to be an FBI.
Speaker 10 (07:36):
That was fascinating to me because you know in the movies,
that's what you see, you know, Yeah.
Speaker 9 (07:41):
And it made sense. I can't wait.
Speaker 10 (07:44):
We're going to be speaking to Brad Garrett later ABC.
A crime in terrorisment some Time's that coming up. He's
going to be up with us at seven fifty. Wonderful,
And I want you to ask him about that, because
that's fascinating.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Yeah, yeah, And who knows if it's true, but you know,
you've heard heard about it many, many times where somebody
goes on the internet to find a hit and then
end up in jail because they arrested. But this is
this is a horrible story. I mean, he leaves behind
a wife and two kids, and it's a horrible, horrible story.
But at the same time, as a crime story for
(08:18):
years to come, this is a fascinating story.
Speaker 10 (08:21):
And on the day of the Christmas tree lighting, you
couldn't have more security because it's in this area. I mean,
we work in Midtown. It happened steps away from our office, honestly,
and it's four blocks away from where the Christmas tree
lighting was going to be happening a couple hours later,
so you know, there was security everywhere already. So I
(08:42):
just thought to myself, what a strange time and place.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, this happened right across the street, right across the
stret while we were on the air yesterday, and when
we left, of course, there was yellow tape up everywhere
it is going. This investigation as it plays out, is
going to be more and more fascinating. I said to
you afterwards, and look, everybody speculating, and this is pure speculation.
(09:10):
Have I have no reason, You have no reason to
believe this fully because it's just pure speculation. But right
after it happened, I said to you, and I know
a couple of other people said to you that many,
many times, people who are on their deathbeds, or even
children that need medical care are turned down by these
(09:35):
insurance covers.
Speaker 9 (09:35):
Right you denied, Yourny.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
It happened to me. My son has Type one diabetes,
and all of a sudden we were having a hard
time getting the insulin forum which keeps them alive. And
it's an extreme You're very emotional. You're extremely emotional, and
so if I'm sure they're already thinking about this, but
when you're thinking of a mode of if somebody is
(10:00):
going to hold a grudge because a family member died,
that seems to be a real strong motive because many times,
if it's your wife or one of your children or
something like that, you will do anything because that's it.
Your life is ruined.
Speaker 10 (10:19):
You were not the only person who said that to me.
As you said yesterday, I heard it several times from people.
It was the first thing they thought of. So it's
gonna be uh interesting.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
I'm sure that's why he was getting death threats. We'll
talk more about this and again, Brad Garrett is coming
up at seven fifty. You're gonna want to stick around
for that. Well, it was a really interesting time on
television yesterday when Titans collide, Whoopy Goldberg and Charlemagne in
a heavyweight media fight. Details next, Larry Mente, you know
(10:53):
I don't watch the view. I know Jacqueline Carl watches
the view.
Speaker 11 (10:57):
No, I just said, I have watched the view. The
reason I can't do it is because they always talk
over each other?
Speaker 9 (11:04):
Is that why?
Speaker 1 (11:05):
That day? Because yeah, okay, that's good. I like that was.
Speaker 11 (11:10):
What stopped me said from time to time, like because
they've been doing it since pretty.
Speaker 12 (11:15):
Much after Barbara Walters left. She used to bring a yeah.
Speaker 11 (11:18):
But ever since then, Meredithierra wasn't so bad. But ever
since then, it's it's always been like that. It's just
so annoying. But go ahead, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah no, And so so I thought to myself, nobody
watches The View because I don't, And so I thought
to myself, everybody does the same thing that I guess
you get you watch it on social media or you
watch you watch clips of it, you know, and usually
in my case, so I can make fun of them,
but I guess other people watch it for other reasons.
(11:45):
But I'm stunned. So I wanted I actually went to
look up their ratings just so I could make fun
of it. Look, ten people watch them. They're setting records
since the election they got they had four million people
for almost four and a half million people tune in
the day after election day.
Speaker 10 (12:06):
That's interesting that they wanted to see him cry.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
No, I mean, I think people that have a propensity
towards that, the people that are are to the left,
because even the people they have on the show that
they pretend are conservatives, they're not. And so I think
people that have a propensity for that want to watch
The View, And it did, it's and now it's actually
it's been averaging over three million people since the election.
So you got to you got to give props where
(12:34):
props are due. The whole the whole business is getting
those numbers and selling advertising. So what they're doing is working.
Yesterday one of our own, Charlemagne, the god from the
studio down the hall from Power, was on and now
he is you know, he goes either way. I mean,
(12:56):
he talks about what he believes in, and sometimes it's conservative,
sometime it's very liberal. Sometimes it's pro Democrat, sometimes pro Republican.
And when it comes to the pardon of Joe for
Joe Biden, I know, I almost said Bartlett parted President
Joe Bartlett. And when it comes to his pardon for
(13:18):
his son Hunter, Charlemagne thinks it was awful, thinks it
was the dumbest thing the Democrats could have done. So
he said that yesterday on the View, and it was
funny because most of them were being kind to the
guests and not talking not whoopy, but.
Speaker 13 (13:34):
Since they were calling trumpet threat to democracy, and they
were saying that, you know, nobody's above the law, but
they were speaking about him. That's what they were running on.
So when he kept saying things like, oh, you know,
nobody's above the law. I respect you know, the jury's
decision to regards to my son. He didn't believe that,
but he didn't have to volunteer that lie.
Speaker 14 (13:51):
To begin with, I'm going to stop you for a
second only because you don't know that it was a lie.
We don't know why he changed You really.
Speaker 13 (14:02):
Think he just changed his mind with Thanksgiving weekend all.
Speaker 14 (14:04):
I'm going to tell you what I think. Okay, I
think he changed his mind because he got sick of
watching everybody else get.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Over That is the maybe the worst excuse for the
pardon I ever heard. So if you put that together,
what she was just saying is everybody else was gaming
the system. Everybody else was getting over the system. And
then he had this epiphany where all of a sudden
(14:31):
he thought, why don't I just game the system? Why
don't I just use the power I have to pardon
my son. You know that the show, I will admit,
I mean I played clips. The show's entertaining because sometimes
the arguments are just so bizarre. But I will say this.
(14:52):
Charlemagne and Whoopi Goldberg, and this is what I really
appreciate is they both talked it out. They were both
strong about their positions. At one point, Charlemagne got up,
went over and gave Whoopy a kiss on the cheek
just to say, you know, we're fighting. We disagree but
I wouldn't it be great if everybody it was always
(15:13):
like that.
Speaker 9 (15:14):
That is not the case.
Speaker 10 (15:15):
God, there are some people you know, you just cannot
talk to if you have a different opinion than them.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Oh, I know.
Speaker 15 (15:22):
The divide in this country is is is bad, and
and there are you know, there's lunatics on both sides,
and there's people on the.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Far right that just hate, hate with a vengeance anybody
on the left. And there's people on the left that
can't even talk to you, won't even talk to you
if they think that you're a conservative. So that's got
to end because it just keeps getting worse and worse
and worse. And politicians profit off that divide, and the
media profits off that divide. You've seen, and so the
(15:56):
more and more there is a divide, the the less
we can get things done because nobody will ever agree
with the other side. And also the media, it's now
not objective anymore. Nobody is the news organizations you used
to go to to get the truth. Now they only
(16:16):
talk about things that are good for their side. They
give you what you want to hear, so you can
be comfortably ignorant about what's going on on the other side.
So it is. I hope things change. I hope everybody
can be like Charlemagne and Whoopee, have a disagreement, get
(16:38):
both sides out and still give the other one a
kiss on the cheek or a handshake, or at least
walk away with a smile, and with that. Jacqueline Carl
with the News, Jacqueline.
Speaker 12 (16:49):
Good morning.
Speaker 11 (16:50):
Mitt Romney is saying goodbye to the US Senate as
his six year term comes to an end. Romney gave
a farewell address on the Senate floor yesterday where he
reflected on his term and highlighted his success passing several
bipartisan initiatives. And Mayor Eric Adams is looking to eliminate
income taxes for on income taxes for one hundreds of
(17:10):
thousands of New York City residents.
Speaker 12 (17:11):
Scott Pringle has more oh This.
Speaker 16 (17:13):
Is called the Acts the Tax for the Working Class proposal.
They would eliminate the city's personal income tax for those
who dependents living at or below one hundred and fifty
percent of the federal poverty line. Mayor Eric Adams says
that means a family of four making about forty six
grand or less would qualify.
Speaker 15 (17:29):
New York is struggling.
Speaker 13 (17:31):
Listen is clear, as the philosopher said, the rint is
too damn high, and people are struggling from everything from
childcare to buying groceries.
Speaker 16 (17:41):
His proposal would also lower city personal income taxes for
filers just above that threshold.
Speaker 12 (17:47):
Okay, this is an interesting story.
Speaker 11 (17:49):
It makes me wish I held on to a few
things childhood toys that could now be worth thousands.
Speaker 12 (17:55):
This is that instance of that.
Speaker 11 (17:56):
Person who never throws anything away might pay off for you.
Insurers at Home Protect have been scouring sites like eBay
to find out what classic toys from the eighties, nineties,
and two thousands are bringing in the highest amount of
cash these days.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Guess what.
Speaker 11 (18:12):
The top five spots went to one type of toy dolls.
Speaker 9 (18:17):
Dolls.
Speaker 12 (18:18):
No, no, it's not Star Wars close. Let me just
tell you.
Speaker 11 (18:22):
The top five spots went to Lego sets, the most
valuable being Star Wars Cloud City set, as well as
the Death Star Death Star two and Millennium Falcon set.
Speaker 9 (18:33):
Oh my nephews used to have that.
Speaker 12 (18:36):
Well, if they still do, that could be their college fund.
Speaker 11 (18:39):
The Lego Skulls Eye Schooner Pirate Ship set is also
a big draw to collectors.
Speaker 15 (18:45):
Now.
Speaker 11 (18:45):
Of course, the other toys with high collectibility are My
Little Pony and of course Barbie.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Yeah, my Little Pony. I went through my Little Pony stages.
Speaker 9 (18:55):
You did which one was your favorite?
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Not me? Myself? I had so many bars my daughter,
although you know I was partial in the PA.
Speaker 11 (19:05):
What were you saying in Jacqueline, I had so many
Barbies as a kid. I had so many baseball cards
and so much stuff that I don't know where from
moving it went.
Speaker 12 (19:14):
It's just I could probably retire on the stuff I
threw away.
Speaker 8 (19:18):
Man.
Speaker 10 (19:18):
I was a big Barbie person too, But you know,
I cut their hair.
Speaker 17 (19:22):
I decided, I decided to put makeup on them, you know,
with marker nice.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Yeah, I thought the same thing when you talked about
the Lego sets. Who keeps a Lego set together?
Speaker 12 (19:33):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 9 (19:34):
I just I think about it. A couple of a
bunch of years ago.
Speaker 10 (19:37):
When I was cleaning out the basement, I said, oh,
the kids aren't playing with their Legos anymore, and I,
you know, packed them all up, and actually I gave
them to our local library because they have a like
a Lego I don't know, like a Lego lab where
kids can come in and create things.
Speaker 9 (19:53):
And then I heard how much money just playing legos?
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Are I didn't gobary? Oh did I have my legos?
Speaker 9 (20:01):
That a donation by me?
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Well, I hope you know you wrote it out on
your text.
Speaker 9 (20:07):
I did it.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Thousands of dollars. You donate it to the local library.
Pete hag Seth says he's not giving up the fight
to be the next Secretary of Defense. You'll hear from
the man himself next. He's speaking out, and you can
weigh in by leaving us a talkback. Just go to
seven to ten WOR dot com on the iHeartRadio app,
(20:29):
click on the red microphone, and then leave us a message.
Good morning, I'm Larrymanti. Welcome to the morning show on WOR.
You just heard a moment ago. If you would have
asked me yesterday, and I think I talked about it
a little bit yesterday, if you would ask me yesterday,
is Pete hag Seth gonna make it? Is he going
(20:51):
to be nominated? I would have said, Uh, that's a
big unknown right now. I he may not make it.
I was worried about him. Stuff just kept coming out
coming out. He was being slimed he was being kavanaughed
over and over again every single day. There was something
(21:13):
else about sexual abuse, that there was something about his
his drinking, that he ran a charity and mismanaged funds,
over and over and over again, every single day. It
is the same playbook by the Democrats to try to
go after somebody. But some of the stuff just it
(21:33):
started to build up, and some of the stuff, even
though you thought in the beginning, ah, this is just
what they always do, it started to pile up, and
some of it just started to sound true. And heg
Sath himself wasn't really fighting back. You didn't hear from him.
I was stunned, especially because now he's out, by the way,
(21:54):
that's what this is leading up to. He's out everywhere.
He was with on her podcast Making Kelly yesterday and
apparently he's going to do immedia blitz just to Tory try
to protect his job. And this comes after allegedly Donald
Trump was looking at other people to put in there,
including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. But he said he said
(22:18):
to Megan Kelly yesterday that Donald Trump told him from
the beginning he wants a fighter.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
I chose you because you're the guy. It's gonna put
the war fighters first. We haven't had that. We need
a guy that's kicked down doors and understands the consequences
of war and why US deterring war, fighting it and
winning it is important.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
He gets it.
Speaker 15 (22:40):
So.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Trump also wrote an editorial for the Wall Street Journal
when he talked about being slimed and the and the
big medium machine.
Speaker 9 (22:49):
Had not Trump.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Did I say Trump? I think, oh, thank you haig Seth. Yes,
it could have been Trump, but maybe what hag hag
Seth wrote an article, an opinion piece for The New
York Times, and in it he talks about the slime
machine out. Did I say it again?
Speaker 9 (23:08):
You said the New York Times. Definitely not the New
York Times.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Wall Street Journal, Oh my god, this is gay. We
just need a button. We need a button.
Speaker 15 (23:17):
Correct.
Speaker 9 (23:17):
That would interesting too.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
No, that would have been interesting. They would have taken it.
They would have They would have other opinion pieces all
around it, slamming it. But they would have taken that
as well. For the Wall Street Journal. Pete hag Seth
wrote an opinion piece for the Wall Street Journal saying
that he was being slimed, saying this was all innuendos
(23:42):
that there's no real evidence that if you look at
the real evidence, he is cleared. So he's clearly following
Donald Trump's playbook and he is now fighting back. And
then he said to Megan Kelly, truthfully, I don't care
what they say. I don't care what the media says.
The only people I care about right now are the
(24:04):
senators that need to confirm me, and he's meeting with them.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
I own answer to the members of the United States
Senate who are going to vote for a confirmation here.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
And my meetings with them have been fantastic.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
No one has looked me in the eye and say
I have concerns and I can't vote for you. In fact,
most have said, let's take a picture, and I'm behind
you all the way. And that's a reflection of Donald
Trump and the strength of his election, but also the
mandate to change something at the Defense Department.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
But look, this has been successful so far, the sliming
of him by the media. They have come after him strong.
I don't think it is going to go away anytime soon. Remember,
the confirmation hearings aren't until January. They have a lot
of time to do opposition research. A lot of time
(24:49):
to dig things up, and he knows that as as
a matter of fact, I just said he's being Kavanaugh,
which was Brett Kavanaugh. If you remember the allegations of
sexualists Salt when he was young, when he was a teenager,
that came out and it turns out that nothing could
nothing at all could be proved, but it made it
(25:11):
so he almost didn't get the confirmation. And Megan Kelly
brought that up yesterday to him.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
That's their playbook, get ready for more, and they're going
to make it up just like they have so far,
all anonymous, all innuendo, all rumor, nothing sourced, no verification,
and they're just going to keep doing it because you're
a threat to them.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
You're a threat to their system. You're a threat to
all the things in Washington d you see the swamp,
the things that people have rejected. You're a threat to that.
Speaker 8 (25:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
The one thing he did admit to yesterday is that
he did at one point have a drinking problem. He
said he's been able to defeat it, but it was
when he came back from the war.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
What do guys do when they come back for more?
Speaker 5 (25:57):
Oftentimes have some beers, you know, how do you deal
with the demons you see on the battlefield.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Sometimes it's with a bottle.
Speaker 5 (26:04):
Unfortunately, tragically, for too many guys, it's with the bottle,
and then it's depression and even worse, suicide. I mean,
we've got an epidemic of that in our country. Thank God,
by the grace of God, I found my chapters of
purpose that pulled me out of that.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
So apparently he's just couldn't meet unless there's a request
and he can't turn it down. He's going to meet
with the Republican senators because the Republicans are going to
control the Senate, and that's all he needs of the
Republican senators. They have fifty three votes. If he can
get them all to hold or just lose a couple
of them, he is going to get through. And it
sounds right now at least like the senators who are
(26:44):
meeting with him, and he has a full schedule going
all from office to office and spending time with the senators,
it sounds like they're on his side so far. He
offered up to me, and I know he has with
other senators too, that he's not drinking and that's not
something he's going to do when confirmed here, that's Eric Schmidt,
a Republican from Missouri. Now Cynthia Loomis from Wyoming.
Speaker 8 (27:06):
These allegations that have come up just in the last
twelve to fourteen dollars are a surprise to all of us,
and so yes, he does need to address those.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
He did, and he met with Loomis and then she
came out afterwards and said that she's going to vote
for him. One last one, how about Kevin Kramer from
North Dakota. I asked him about is there anything else
that we don't know that could surprise us that you
know to be true? And you said there's absolutely nothing there.
You go, well, now, if there's a surprise, he's in
(27:40):
big trouble. So we'll see what happens over the next
month and a half. But right now he looks like
he's going to get in. I told you this was
going to happen yesterday. Taylor Swift fans are livid. We'll
tell you why next. Plus, we want to send you
to Mariah Carey's Christmas Time Tourain said eight twenty five.
(28:02):
Welcome back. I'm Larry MENTI I told you this was
gonna happen yesterday. You could almost say cue the tailor
Swift fans after it came out in Billboard magazine. They
wanted to get the number one artist, the most influential
artist of the twenty first century, so that starts in
(28:22):
two thousand and everybody, I think everybody just assumed it
was gonna be Taylor Swift because Taylor Swift is so
big right now, and she has absolutely dominated the music
industry for the last four years and more.
Speaker 12 (28:38):
Really, she started when she was like an infant practically.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Yeah, but I mean she didn't dominate like this, right.
Speaker 12 (28:44):
And we all knew who she was for you know,
was it like now?
Speaker 11 (28:48):
No, No, really, I understand what you're saying, Like these
last few years, she's like made billions and really, but
she's been around for a long time.
Speaker 12 (28:56):
People knew who she's, know who she is.
Speaker 9 (28:58):
R Yeah, I like obsessed with her for probably ten years.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Yeah, but to the point we're talking about this, this
dominance being the number one since in the twenty first
century and so, but she didn't get it. It was
it was Beyonce. Now I could see Beyonce being the
number two pick. I understand that. I mean, it's not
it's but I don't think it's close between the two
of them. And I'm not even a huge big Swifty.
(29:24):
I'm not a big Tailor Swift fan.
Speaker 12 (29:25):
And the century isn't over yet. Why are they even doing.
Speaker 9 (29:28):
This now, That's what I was wondering.
Speaker 12 (29:30):
It's just it's just to get it's just to get
some hype.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
But so I thought, and I'm disappointed by this. I
really am disappointed Swifty. I thought, oh, great, No, I'm
disappointed you wait, wait only finished. I'm disappointed by the fact.
I'm disappointed by the fact that there were no screaming
Tailor Swift fans crying online. That's what I was waiting for.
(29:56):
That's what I thought I was gonna be on a
play today. They I'm going, oh could this How could
you pick Beyonce? Instead? There were a lot of people
talking about it, but nobody posted a video, which is
really weird that I could find. Now, maybe they're out
there that I could find, but they were almost corporate,
(30:18):
some of them in their responses, like, for instance, this one.
I disagree with her being number two and Beyonce being
number one. Sorry, Billboard, but this is not the real case,
and we all know it. As talented as Beyonce is.
Taylor out did her on every level. She deserves the
number one spot.
Speaker 12 (30:39):
That's a SWIFTI fan all class.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Yes, but that was not what I wanted. That was
not what I expected. I wanted more emotion. This is
this gets a little bit more. This is this goes
a little bit into the emotional area because it had caps.
No other artists have occupied all ten tops spots on
the Billboard list, not just once, but twice. She should
(31:05):
have been the number one artist. There is no comparison.
And this is the caps part. This is a joke, right,
Taylor is is the music industry. No artist has ever
filled the top ten spots on the top one hundred,
and Taylor has done it twice. She wanted to make
that point again. There are strong points, and I get it.
(31:27):
There was a lot of Beyonce fans too that were
pushing back, saying that, you know, she really hasn't been relevant,
even though you disagree, since two thousand and six, that's
what they said. And Beyonce has been around since nineteen
ninety seven, and they believe that she has had more
of an influence. They were fighting, But you know, I
just wanted I wanted the crying tailors with fans.
Speaker 10 (31:50):
You wanted some little teenage girl upset in her bedroom,
just crying.
Speaker 12 (31:55):
Yes, no it happened to yourself. I would.
Speaker 9 (32:00):
I'm sure it happens somewhere.
Speaker 12 (32:01):
Yeah, I mean people are disappointed no matter what.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Yeah, I would. I wanted to see that. Now the
other thing is in and Natalie, you told me about
this because you actually saw the book. There is apparently
a new book out on Taylor Swift. Isn't it self published?
Speaker 9 (32:17):
Yeah, it's a self published book.
Speaker 10 (32:18):
It's basically a tour, a book of her tour, so
it's a coffee table style book, you know, glossy photos
and all that.
Speaker 9 (32:27):
At Target also released a vinyl album along with it.
Big Big displays first Walk.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
In See she's smart, terror fathers in marketing, She's smart. Yeah,
I mean, right before Christmas to put this out exactly.
And it's about the errors tour. But they should have
spelled errors E R R O R S because the
book apparently is Did you see the book? I did,
(32:54):
riddled with it.
Speaker 10 (32:55):
I did see the book, but it's also wrapped in plastic,
so you can't open the book to see what's inside
the book, which is kind of crazy when you're buying
a book, right, But uh yeah, the Swifties they know
they're swifty material. So apparently there were some tour dates
that were wrong, like they gave the wrong dates, like nope, nope,
she wasn't in Toronto, then she was in there Mine.
(33:17):
Some names of the songs were misspelled.
Speaker 11 (33:22):
Put it together with Ai, because AI does that all
the time, thought the same thing. I think it was
like a thrown together AI thing with pictures and facts,
and because AI. When I read an article, now I'm like,
oh Ai, because there's so many mistakes.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
It's so here you go. Here's some of the mistakes.
This is Me Trying was listed as this is me rying,
and a section listed gold Rush attract from Evermore as
one word Evermore, even though the song is two words.
Speaker 12 (33:51):
Of course, it's two words.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
You know that.
Speaker 12 (33:55):
Any good Swifty.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Does, she'll still make a fortune. There was there was
some videos online kind of people waiting in line to get.
Speaker 10 (34:02):
This, which I was surprised because when I went to
my local target there were hundreds of them there.
Speaker 9 (34:09):
And I looked at my daughter and I said, do
you want one? She's like no.
Speaker 17 (34:13):
I was like, do you know anybody who wants one,
because they're here, so I don't know, and they're forty bucks,
all right.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
I could Trump be thinking about replacing Pete Hegeseth with
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his nominee for Defense Secretary.
That's what we're going to talk about with wor's White
House correspondent John Decker after the news. It's seven o'clock.
