Three Carroll County schools were placed in secure mode yesterday
after a man was wanted for escaping from his court-committed location.
According to a message sent out to parents of students
in the Carroll County school system, including Piney Ridge Elementary,
Sykesville Middle, and Carrolltown Elementary, they were placed in the
secure mode due to police activity in the area. It's
(01:02):
a standard response protocol when there is a situation outside
in the area of the school and that no one
would be allowed to enter or exit the building until
it's resolved. Police were looking for a 54-year-old man who
escaped after walking away from Springfield Hospital Center around 11.30
in the morning.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
He was located around 3.30 in the afternoon. Nobody was hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Towson University will lower tuition for students from six states
surrounding Maryland in an effort to keep more of them enrolled.
Students from Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and
West Virginia, along with those from Washington, D.C., will qualify
for the discount launching in fall 2027. Though the university
has seen steady enrollment, the number of undergraduate degrees it
(01:45):
awards has fallen in recent years. University leaders hope that
the new discount will increase retention. NASA announced that astronauts
Reed Wiseman and Victor Glover, who traveled to the moon's
orbit earlier this year, will retire from the agency this month.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Reed Wiseman is a Baltimore County native.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Both astronauts will support the agency by training and mentoring
other astronauts.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
That is your break. Who's ready to win some money
with Michael J.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
And Candace?
Speaker 4 (02:11):
It's time for the 93.1 WPOC High Low Jackpot.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Mark, in Westminster, what is your favorite part of living
in Westminster?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
What do you love about Westminster?
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Probably drinking beer.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Where's your favorite spot?
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Who's got the best beer in Westminster, Mark?
Speaker 4 (02:35):
I think they're all pretty good.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Mark's not picky. So, look, we want to get down
to business. We want to give you a lot of money.
It's high-low jackpot. Number one, somewhere between $ 100 and $ 2, 500.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
What do you think?
Speaker 1 (02:47):
I think it's going to be $ 2, 310. $ 2, 310. That's your
final guess, and you're locking it in. I'm locking it in, man.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
That's too high. Sorry on that.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
A little too high, but we'll play again. Mark is
from Westminster. Yeah, put that down, and if you're smart,
you will keep track of all these incorrect guesses because
I think they've got to lead you someplace very exciting.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Y'all been giving it your But no one's figured it
out yet.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Your next chance at our high-load jackpot is.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
At 910 on 93.1 WPOC. Michael J's Music City Minute.
In 60 seconds, you gonna know like you own Music Row.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Has anybody seen what Sam Hunt looks like now?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Come on, I want to hear from the ladies. What
do you think, Candice? I really like Sam's music, believe
it or not. You're trying to say you don't like
the bald head, huh? I'm not doing it too much.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Ladies, you'll have to take a peek and let us
know what you think. He surprised fans, debuting a bold
new look, it's being called on social media, shaving off
his signature beard and hairstyle.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
What about chest, chest hair?
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Are you good with the guy shaving his chest, or
would you rather he was just let it go au naturel?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
He can do whatever he wants. All right.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Taylor Swift has newly discovered Australian plant bug genus has
been named after her. The University of California has created
Swifty Phyllis. Is that a good thing when bugs are
named after you, or do you take offense?
Speaker 2 (04:32):
No, thank you. This is ridiculous. Well, I've got some suggestions.
I think they should go with the.
This is pretty funny, too.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
The fly ladybug. For one, I think about this for
a second, Candace. If there was a ladybug lanternfly, for example,
be like, Romeo, take me straight to the nearest porch light.
Speaker 1>How about the shake-it-off stink bug?
Speaker 1>
Speaker 2>
(05:01):
You know those stink bugs. Stink, stink, stink, stink, stink.
Are you ready for it, Roach? The ready-for-it Roach. Are
you ready for it?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
No, too bad. It already lives in your kitchen. And
it might be named after Candace. No, Taylor can just
keep her songs away.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
They are.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
You don't want to have a bug. I get a bug.
I don't want a bug named after. I'll get a
bug named after you if you want. Candace Cockroach, maybe. No,
you're great.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
We are so excited about what's going on in Ocean
City on October 2nd and 3rd.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Country calling.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
It's like everybody's talking about it. I mean, there's so
many people that are going.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
To be there. So Chris Stapleton's going to be awesome.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
If you've never seen Chris, I saw him when he
played at CFG Bank Arena last time.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Okay. On a one to 10 scale, he was about
a 20. I'm sure. He was incredible.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
And he brings Morgan with him and his whole band.
And I could just listen to him play. He doesn't
even have to sing. But then he opens up his voice.
That power that comes out of Chris Stapleton is magnificent. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
So you got him. Rascal Flatts. Rascal Flatts will be good.
They're one of my favorites.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
They are like, yeah, they're just exactly what you would
think they are. You know, they're every hit after hit
after hit. I'm personally really excited about Miranda Lambert. Miranda
is in person. She is, you know what? Because she's authentic.
I think that's what I like her.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
She is beautiful. So Oklahoma, Texas to the core.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Okay. And I mean, like, you know, the house that
built me and just got so many good songs.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
What about Laney? I like Laney too. And then there's
Dierks Bentley.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
And then there's Justin Lynch.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
So all these stars are going to be at Country Calling.
Enough already. Let's play our little game. We like to
call the hot seat with the ninth caller. Kayla from
Glen Burnie.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Best part of Glen Burnie.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
What do you love the most about 21060 or 21061?
My grandfather always says the exit sign.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
What is it about the exit signs in Glen Burnie
that you love? Just getting out of Glen Burnie. Oh,
my gosh.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
We got to save that little clip forever. You are.
We love Glenn Bernie. I mean, my whole family's we
spent our whole lives there. Anyway, Kayla, look here. We
have got three questions to give you. You're a hoot.
Do it quickly because if you don't get it in
before the buzzer, we got to hang up on you.
And I don't want to do that. We've got tickets
(07:28):
for country calling. So Candace has got a few things
you're going to have to call. Because it's country calling.
All right, here we go.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
It's all about the call.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Tell your boyfriend's mom that you don't like her cooking.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Kayla, what would you say to your boyfriend's mother to
tell her that you don't like what she made?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Go. That I could do it better.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Kayla tells it like it is. You just come straight
out and tell her, huh?
Speaker 4 (07:57):
No, she's an amazing cook, but yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
All right.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
How about this one? What would you say if you had.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
To call your boss and explain that you can't come
to work because you're currently being chased by a goose
that got loose from the Maryland State Fair?
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Oh, my goodness. The goose is on the loose.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
And that's so funny because my nephew, we call my
nephew Goose.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Aww.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
My dad called me Goose. That's cute. Finally? Okay.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Call your neighbor and ask if you can borrow their
Wi-Fi while standing outside their house.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Can I have your Wi-Fi password, please? There you go.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
That's it. You're just going to say it very nicely
with a cute smile, and they'll probably give it to you. Yes.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Well, listen. Exactly.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Congratulations, Kayla. You're doing some real calling. You're going to
Ocean City. You're going to hang out with all the stars.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Country calling.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
You're going to be there for both days and everything
that's going down. I'm so excited.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Thank you guys so much.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
We are 10 minutes away from finding out who's nominated
for a CMA award, much like Michael J.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
And Candace. We got nominated for a CMA. The talk's
getting real now. Yeah. Remember when we were sitting here
and Jeff, our boss, came in?
Speaker 1 (09:13):
He was like, you got a CMA nomination, and you
got a CMA nomination.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
And we got a CMA nomination. And then there's Ava
in the video. She couldn't believe it.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Yeah, because WPOC got nominated for major market country station
of the year. We're up against four other nominees like Denver.
And I forgot which ones are which.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
I don't pay attention.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
But WPOC, our buddies down the street, WMZQ, they got
nominated for major market.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
So we're up against each other. Two of the five.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
This is what's crazy. Out of the best country stations
in the USA. Out of the five nominees for major
market country.
