Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some mornings, it's tough to remember to take everything with
you out the door, your lunch, your security badge, whatever
you need to get in at work. The other mornings,
everything just seems to click. You know what the difference
is those slow mornings you've probably missed ninety three point
one WDPOC The Michael J Morning Show. Hope you can
(00:20):
join us every morning, but if you do happen to
miss anything, maybe you can catch it here on our podcast.
Thanks for checking in, follow, like, share, and keep listening.
Ninety three point one do WDPOC, Michael Jay and and
and I want to fill in the blank when I can.
Till seven thirty, we are twenty seven minutes away, and
(00:44):
we're just a couple of minutes away from our brief.
I want to let you know we're following a couple
of stories. There was just a heartbreaking story of a
guy here in Baltimore who was ripping off customers and
praying on their grief. You've got to hear how this
ended in court yesterday in Baltimore County. Got that story
(01:08):
and a lot more on our Baltimore Brief.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Which normally a co host would be doing.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I guess I'll fill in Michael Jay, now taking care
of your brief.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
God you are pop culture protein boost.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
It's the Brief on ninety three point one WPOC.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Time and time again, heartbroken and grieving pet owners from
all over Baltimore would call a guy named Rodney Ward
looking for help and comfort, having decided to have their
beloved pet cremated, And time and time again, this war
guy would convincingly return what he said were the remains.
(01:48):
After investigation, though it was discovered that what he was
actually returning with sand and construction materials. Yesterday, during an
hour long victim impact statement, over a dozen pace people
tearfully shared stories of being betrayed and taking advantage of
during their grief by Rodney Ward. Baltimore County Circuit Court
(02:09):
Judge Keith Truffle handed down a sentence of twenty years
and ordered Ward to pay twelve five hundred and ten
dollars in restitution to the sixty victims.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
M that is something else.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
A bystanders video for Muskegan, Michigan, caught a woman in
handcuffs in the back of a patrol officer's car. The suspect,
who allegedly had an outstanding parole violation, managed to shimmy
out the half open window on the police vehicle while
officers were busy going through the suspects of car in
front of the police vehicle. So while they're tearing the
(02:44):
seats out and looking for contraband, this woman was seen
face first sliding out over the glass window and then
making an amazing feet first landing before running away. I
was really thinking she was going to face plant. The
police are still looking for her. Yesterday, Spice Giant McCormick
from Hutt Valley announced they're buying Unilevers food unit and
(03:08):
nearly what forty five billion dollars of cash and stock
being transferred. I'm still gonna stick with Jo and the
biggest concern about our Orioles. Speaking of O's entering the
season was their unproven bullpen. Last night's loss at Camden
Yards proved why the bullpen collapsed, allowing six runs and
an eight to five loss to the Rangers. The Birds
(03:31):
will try to get back to five hundred when they
play a getaway game today at twelve thirty five. They're
heading to Pittsburgh to open a series with the Pirates
Friday night.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
And that is your brief.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
When were you trying to bust open the free ticket
window because we've got Thomas Rhett concert tickets to give away.
You want to go to Merriwether August thirteenth, that all
get on the phone. Eight hundred three two one thirty
six ninety three.
Speaker 2 (03:57):

Now, don't say what's happening yet, but are you gonna
be ready to help us introduce our new co host? Absolutely?
I can't believe we got real fan Dan in the house.
But first let me get you if you're a Thomas
Rhett fan to the show at Merriweather's.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Good Luck Hut on the phones so we'll find out
who wins.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Being so close to all the big news this morning,
Michael J's Music.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
City minute in sixty seconds, you gon't know like you
own music row.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
So who's going to see Thomas Rhett? Who is this salary?
You're going to see Thomas Rhett? Congratulation?
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yes, I had some big country music news Eastern Shore.
Valerie from Chestertown just won those tickets. We'll do it
again tomorrow right around seven to ten now in country music,
I always like to keep the updated with Michael Jay's
Music City Minute.
Speaker 2 (04:57):

few minutes at seven point thirty to help with the
big news. We're waking up Nashville this morning to share
the news of our new co host. He's got news
to share as well. I can't say a whole lot,
but I can tell you this much because we're gonna
(05:21):
have a big iHeart Country World premiere on Friday. Think
about one of your favorite country artists who has not
put out new country in a couple of years, and
these guys, that's a hint.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Our big big, big, big, big, big big.
Speaker 1 (05:39):

That's all I can say is it's all top secret,
confidential until you get the iHeart Country World premiere this
Friday morning.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
But heads up, make.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Sure you're listening to Michael Jay and Well, the moment
we've been waiting for is here, and I've got Dustin
Lynch from Nowsville.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
He's gonna help me out. Dustin, before you say anything, I.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Want you to know we've been working on this since January.
Here at WPOC, there are hundreds of applicants. We whittled
it down to seventy. Then twenty zoom interviews. I had
to sit through months of meetings, phone calls, more zoom meetings.
Then Mallory from WMAR, Jamie from WMR, Candace Dole from Fox.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Baltimore, she was here.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Then Ashley Nichols came in from Los Angeles, and Shiloh
from New York City, and Meg from North Carolina, and
then weeks and weeks of Candace filling in as our
special guest host. Everyone had to be background checked. In fact,
let me let you hear what that sounds like. And
(06:49):
there were so many tests that went on.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
I'm telling you it was crazy.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Fingerprinted, mouth swab, confession checked, check for bed checks, cross checks,
body scans, MRIs, heart scans, colon ostervies, blood test. Then
we will pat it down by TSA and now Dustin Lynch,
if you could help me, buddy, I'm very excited to
introduce from Nashville, Dustin Lynch.
Speaker 2 (07:19):

to celebrate.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
And we are and I've got I've got champagne. Would
you rather have beer or champagne at seven thirty in
the morning, what do we toast with?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
You know, I'm rarely drinking at seventh.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Let's throw all right and your brew of choice?
Speaker 2 (07:41):
What would that be for light?
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (07:45):
There you go, do it?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
You and I are we're silver bullets are our mountains
are frosty and.
Speaker 5 (07:50):

chally please. So it all started January twelfth, right. I
was like, hey guys, I'm gonna go guest host for
a week.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
My husband's like, what are you doing. I'm like, it's
just a week. We can we can make it work
for a week.
Speaker 7 (11:22):
And then I came in and I'm dancing to all
the songs in the studio and I'm like, I really
love this, you know, And so one talk led to another.
Then you had all these women coming in asking for roses,
and I'm like, hold.
Speaker 6 (11:37):
On, hold on, Oh my gosh, I'm not only.
Speaker 2 (11:41):

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Sorry, this is an artificial plastic rose to show my.
Speaker 2 (12:04):

Speaker 7 (12:06):
And he even got me a pink one, which I
said that that would be my favorite kind, So thank you.
Speaker 2 (12:12):

Speaker 6 (12:14):
I will accept this rose forever? So you're here, so yes,
so we we.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
I heard all these women talking about roses and I'm like,
hold on, I need this rose. And so I need
to say a huge thank you to the listeners because
they made this experience. You know, I worked on TV
over at Fox for fourteen and a half years, and
you don't get the instant gratification, the text messages, the
(12:46):
interaction that you get here in radio and Baltimore has
welcomed me with open arms, and I couldn't be more thankful.
Speaker 6 (12:56):
So happy to be here.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Real fan Dan is in the house, Candice is our
new year co host Michael j and Candace here at
ninety three point one WPOC. I was talking with real
fan Din yesterday on the phone, and Dan, you told
me the most incredible story because I wanted to know
from you. You know, how did you end up being
this iconic super fan everybody knows you know, I always
(13:22):
look forward to you when you.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Go to a Ravens game.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
It's not a Ravens game unless you see real Fandann
up there with the shirtoff. Well, first of all, I'm
just a regular fan. I'm nobody special. I love Baltimore.
I love the Baltimore fans. Listen, guys, this is all
about you. It is love for.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Our city, our team, being together, rooting for our team.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
It is all about love.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
So tell me about this because there's a little bit
of religion behind this whole thing that brought you up too.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
So anyway, I grew up a Lutheran and a Baltimore
Colts fan. There you going back in the sixties, Sundays
were all about watching the football game, going to the game,
listening to Chuck Thompson on the right and going to
church first and then going to the game.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Gotcha.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I grew up that way, and I'll let you know
that I am humbly the tenth guy to do this
tradition of leading cheers of chant the letters of our
team's name since nineteen fifty seven Baltimore Colts, Oriels, Stallions
and now the Baltimore Ravens. So I grew up and
having a guy named Big Wheel and spoke, and they
got the whole place, all Memorial Stadium to go see.
(14:28):
Oh ol t listen, I mean the entire stadium. Cha
at this and it was wonderful, united us all. We
loved it. We thought it would go on forever until
our team got stole away in the middle of the night,
right in a snowstorm. So right, football in Baltimore, So
I couldn't root for the Redskins or for the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
So basically I did a lot of hiking and join
the army. Right, well, thank you for your service.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
For sure, well mainly in the Maryland Army National Guards.
I got a full time position with them, and well
I knew I needed a change about thirty years ago,
so I prayed God for love in my life. I
knew I needed a family, I needed somebody to love,
and right about that and the Ravens came to town and
(15:16):
me and my old Coats buddy started going games. We
asked to be seated together in the new stadium. They
put us in section five thirty two and we were
surrounded by twenty five members of Ravens Roost eighteen of
Glenn Burney, and they had been a Colts corral and
they knew all about the Baltimore chire tradition. And we said, man,
you've got a lot of people here. Do you think
our fans would appreciate it if we restarted the tradition
(15:37):
with our ave and s And they said, well, let's
vote it, want it?
Speaker 2 (15:41):
And it was unanimous.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Was the third game of the nineteen ninety eight season,
and we've been leading that year after every touchdown and
every field goal since. It grew slowly, but it grew
and it grew and it grew, and finally the Ravens
guide cameras in the upper deck and they put us
on the big screen. You see it today, all seventy
thousand raven Me, that's ten and us and you're doing
(16:09):
Orioles now too.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Man, I do all right, I do.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
I go to, I go to I went to what
fourteen fifteen games last year and twenty years before, and
try to keep that up. We'll see, yeah, And but anyway,
it's all about you. So remember I prayed for love, right, Okay? Well,
her name is Robin and she was sitting in that
Ravens rooms two rows below me, four seats over. And
(16:35):
after two years of sitting with these great people, I thought, well,
I'm gonna join their club, right, And I joined their club,
and at our first bull roast, big fundraiser, Robin asked
me to dance.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Eventually became my wife.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
And I got two teenage young adult kids out of
it right then, and eventually four grandkids and two grand
great grandkids. One hundred and twenty five members of the
roosteril like real gudaughters and sisters.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
It's amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
And now I can't go anywhere have people walking off
me and saying I love you.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Man, so well, give me a POC. That's where it worked.
You want a WP, Here we go. It's a real fan, Dan,
Let's go country.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
Oh you oh c.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yeah, hey Dan, you will not believe who we got
to welcome Candas because I went to Nashville and I
had to get everyone's approval, all the country artists right
to get their blessing.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Listen to who it is Candas.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Hey, everybody is Kenny Chesney and you're listening to Michael

That's snowball right now. That's right, You're doing a whole
bunch of them.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
About four years ago, real fan Dann got real popular
and a guy named Mike Titch, who is the founder
of Inssychonics. They do breakfast businesses for two hundred Baltimor
area businessman about every three or four months over an
ere in Cockeysville at the Valley Mansion.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
And they bring all these people in and they talk
for about an hour and they network right and talk,
so they have coffee and then they bring him into
this big ballroom. So he hired me for two hundred
bucks to stand at the wall. The wall. Look, this
long league gets up in the ceilings. Man, here, I
am half naked form two hundred and fifty ball are
(19:00):
you CEOs?
Speaker 2 (19:01):
And that led to me being hired about fifty times. Now, well,
I want to give you a shout out. What's the
best way for people to get ahold of you? Okay?

is amazing. Every time we come to Baltimore, it's awesome.
And the one thing I haven't done is go to
a Ravens game. So maybe Candis we can set up

a Ravens game or something like.
