Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some mornings, it's tough to remember to take everything with
you out the door. Your lunch, your security badge, whatever
you need to get in at work. Other mornings, everything
just seems to click. You know what the difference is?
Those slow mornings you probably missed. 93.1 WPOC. The Michael J.
Morning Show.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hope you can join us every morning. But if you.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Do happen to miss anything, maybe you can catch it
here on our podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Thanks for checking in. Follow, like, share, and keep listening.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
93.1 WPOC, Michael J. and Candace, and we are speaking
with the lovely Carrie from Perry Hall, who was just
telling me, I always like to ask, your favorite thing
about living in your neighborhood is, and we asked about
Perry Hall, and Carrie, you say?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Just the convenience of everything being around us.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Right.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
You got good neighbors, drugstores right down the street. Everything
you need is just a hop, skip, and a jump, right?
It is.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
It really is.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Well, here's hoping that the questions you're going to have
to answer to win tickets for Country Calling are just
as easy.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
I hope so.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Okay, well, we're kind of going with the theme this
week because it's country calling is.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
The name of the whole thing. You know about it, right?
Down Ocean City?
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Rascal Flatts. It's going
to be really a hoot and a holler, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
So here we go. Since we're calling, Carrie.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
What we're what we're going to want you to do
is imagine you're your favorite farm animal at the Maryland
State Fair going on one more weekend coming up and
call as they might call one of the other farm animals.
So do you have a favorite farm animal at the
Maryland State Fair?
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Start right there. The cow. Okay, well, that's easy.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
So now give us a call so that you might
attract other cows at the Maryland State Fair.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
What would that sound like? All right. I might have
been a pregnant cow.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
All right. You're on a roll. Here we go. Now,
this time around, you're going to be calling your neighbor.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
To ask if you can borrow their Wi-Fi while you're
standing outside the house and you're on their front porch.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
All right. Do you have your own Wi-Fi at your house?
I do. Okay. Imagine it goes out. You're on the fritz.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
But you got an important message you got to get out.
So you're going to use your neighbor's Wi-Fi. And you're
outside their house.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Okay. Carrie's at the door.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah. Hi.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
How you doing, Carrie? What can I do for you?
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Hey, I need to borrow some Wi-Fi today.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Do you get along with your neighbors pretty well? Would
they normally give you their Wi-Fi code?
Speaker 2 (03:03):
They don't care? Yes, they would. They would.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
You're funny. All right, finally.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I'm going to leave this up to you unprompted. Speaking
of calling, how would you tell your spouse you overdrew
the checking account?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Go.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Oh, Lord, we have a problem. What happened? We are
in trouble. Uh-huh. What happened? Carrie, you're laughing. I just
spent too much money, and we are minus. Oh, my gosh.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Carrie, what did you do this time? Did you buy something?
What did you pick up?
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Shopping. Shopping again?
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Totally shopping.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
And what did you buy yourself that made it worth
bouncing the check? I just buy myself.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Way too many clothes.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Aw.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Well, get a little outfit figured out because you're going
to Ocean City with your spouse who will not be
upset with you now because you've got tickets for Country
Calling October 2nd and 3rd, and you're going to be
in Ocean City, Carrie!
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yes! How exciting! That is very exciting. All right, that's
enough calling.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Let's get Dan and Shay on 93.1 WPOC. Tell you
something we're working on diligently behind the scenes. And hopefully
we kind of set a little challenge for ourselves. As
soon as we get at least 20 schools who have
submitted their their classes pledge of allegiance. We're going to
(04:34):
start playing these on the show at six each morning
to get your day started. We'll have some very adorable kids,
I'm sure, you know, doing the Pledge of Allegiance. So
we're starting to get these submissions from schools. And you
will not believe what school is it that we heard
from just now. You can mention the name.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Elementary school. Middleborough.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Elementary school.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
In Baltimore County.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Right. So we've sent out letters to all the schools,
and they're all submitting, which is awesome. You know, some
schools are submitting multiple classes.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
So, you know, we can get them on all eventually.
But this Middleborough Elementary.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Correct. They had the entire school.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Do the Pledge of Allegiance. We just got... How many
kids go to school there? We'll find out. It's a
really sweet video. Oh, that's awesome. I mean, it must
be hundreds of kids, I guess. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Sounds like it.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
But the entire school did it.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
So we're really looking forward to it coming very, very soon,
one of these mornings. We just want to have enough to,
once we start this... You know, we want to make
sure we've got enough to keep it going. So if
you do end up hearing from Michael J. and Candace,
you'll know, yep, we're putting it together. The Pledge of
Allegiance will start very soon at 6 a.m.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Around here. So tomorrow morning at.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
This exact moment, shortly after 9 a.m.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
With Michael J.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
And Candace in the morning here at 93.1 WPOC, we're
going to be announcing the official nominees for the 2026th
60th CMA Awards coming up in November. So as you
may remember, there's a lot of categories, everything from Best
New Artist. At one point, they called that the Horizon Award.
(06:19):
Now it's just Best New Artist, I believe. Then they
get into Single of the Year, Song of the Year.
You're going to be hearing my prediction. You're going to
be hearing a lot of battling going on between Ella
Langley and Taylor Swift.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
This is what I expect to happen.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
You're going to have, you know, a song like shoes
in Texas going up against Taylor Swift's return to country music.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I knew it. I knew you. Those two are going
to be battling, I think, for single and song of
the year. We'll see.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
And then, you know, you have all the other categories.
You got best duo. You get, you know, best this,
that and the next. But the big categories, the three
big ones are male and female artist and entertainer of
the year. So I thought we'd have some fun and
completely separate. Now, Ava, you're going to make sure that
(07:10):
there's no finagling going on here. I am keeping off
the air my five guesses for female, male entertainer. And
then entertainer of the year. So they're going to be
15 in all. Now, the CMA very easily could have
more than five nominees. Sometimes if the voting's tied, you
(07:30):
could have six or seven.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
That's even happened.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
So but we're just going to each pick. Candace and
I are both picking. She's locked in a room right now.
And she is working on her list. I'm working on
my list. And then tomorrow after they are announced, we
will add them up and we'll see who gets the
bragging rights to the most correct. It's going to be competitive.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
We're bringing out the claws. Tomorrow morning, Michael J. and
Candace will do that when we make the announcement a
little after 9 a.m.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Tomorrow, all right?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
WPOC talking to a very lovely lady from Middle River
named Stephanie. I think that's already a good sign because
my daughter's name is Stephanie. And then come to find out,
Steph's telling me that she's busy cleaning houses and her
husband's going through some stuff in the hospital.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
What is your husband's first name, Stephanie?
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Raymond.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Raymond. Raymond, I believe very strongly in the power of prayer.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
So I'm just going to ask all of our 12
listeners just to raise up Raymond and think positive and
send some love and hopefully healing to him very, very quickly.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
All right. We're just thinking.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Thank you for that. Thinking very, very positive. Now, I'm
hoping as well that we can get you some cash.
You've been paying attention for high.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Low, I hope. I have a little bit.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
I don't know that I've heard all of it, so
I'm hoping.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
All right. Well, we're on high-low jackpot number one. We
play the game 7-10, 8-10, and 9-10 each morning.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
It's time for the 93.1 WPOC high-low jackpot.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
And Stephanie from Middle River, this is the moment we're
waiting on. How much money do you believe is in
high-low jackpot number one?
Speaker 2 (09:10):
$ 2, 100.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
$ 2, 100 smackers.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Let's see what happens for Stephanie.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
That's too low.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Oh, Steph, I'm so sorry. That is all right.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
No jackpot this time, but you're closer, and hopefully you
can keep playing because we're going to.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Do it again, all right?
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yes, sir.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Have a great day.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Have you worked up your guesses for nominees for the
CMA Awards for tomorrow? Oh, yeah. All right.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
I got him. So here's what we're going to do.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
We're recording separately, and Ava.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Wants to play along, too, and we've invited her to
join us.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
I'm getting in on this.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
So we're each going to nominate what we think are
the five picks for male artist, female artist, and entertainer,
and then the maximum total score would be 15 points
if you get all five in each category correct. And
then tomorrow, bragging rights go to the winner, Candice. So
the pressure's on. Is it going to be you, me,
or is producer Ava, young Ava, is she going to
(10:09):
beat both of us?
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
That would be humiliating. Your parents would be very proud, Ava.
I mean, what can I say? All right.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
So anyway, and if you tune in tomorrow morning, 9 a.m.,
that is when you want to be listening because we're
going to be revealing shortly after 9 tomorrow, all of
the official CMA award nominations.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
It is a big deal.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
I would say there's going to be a huge in memoriam,
let's call it, for Dolly. Definitely. You know, and- And unfortunately,
or however you look at it, you know, it's not
till November when this show happens. So things can change
even between now and then. But, you know, they start
the process. They have to have the voting. So right
(10:53):
now we're trying to come up with the top five
in all the categories. And tomorrow we'll know exactly who
they are for the win.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
And I can't wait. Candace, are you prepared to try
to whoop me? Come on.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
I got it.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Bring it.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I got my list together.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
All right, bring it. I need some good.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
I'm voting on you right now with another gooder news
story today.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
You always bring the good news. And what's the latest
on that?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Well, a dog that once roamed the streets alone is
now hitting the streets with a badge. Anne Arundel County
Police Department recently graduated canine Heidi.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
She's one and a half.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
She was rescued from Anne Arundel County Animal Care and
Control and trained to become a police dog.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
The canine unit, they.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Knew that she had potential when they went into the shelter.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
They brought her into a months-long academy.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
And they said most working dogs cost thousands of dollars
before training even begins. But Heidi came from the shelter
and quickly proved that she had what it takes.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I love that.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
And I know. And so now she is going on.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
She's joining other shelter dogs that have gone on to
successful canine careers. including Canine Kane and Canine Boomer.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
So that's the good news for today.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
So it's Kane, it's Boomer, and it's Heidi are the
three police dogs. Can you imagine Heidi walking in with
all the other police dogs? And then she's like, you know,
y'all think you're so good. You think yours doesn't stink
because you're thousands of dollars before you came here to
get trained. I'm right out of the pound, baby. And
I'm here to show you how it's done. You know
(12:43):
how the dogs talk. You know those dogs talk to
each other like that.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
They're like.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
You wouldn't believe how much preparation goes into Michael J.
and Candace in the morning. Oh, we have wardrobe meetings.
We talk about what we're going to... Especially with Candace,
because she's got to figure out what she's going to wear.
That means I've got to figure out what I'm going
to wear. She puts on sequins. I've got to go
get bejeweled up. I've got to have sequins.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
I've got to have... Oh, my goodness.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
I have a good store for you to go to.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Yeah, I'm not wearing... It's not in Vegas. I'm not
getting bedazzled.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
So tomorrow, though, we're shooting some sort of a video
where we're going to be... I don't really understand the
whole concept. We're going to be running around, Candice. Do
you understand what we're doing? We're supposed to dress up,
and I got to wear my Ella Fella shirt?
Speaker 3 (13:32):
All I know is that I'm supposed to wear my
sparkly tennis shoes.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
All right. And we're running. We're working out. We're speedwalking.
They'll find out. All right.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
So here's the other thing I need to ask you
really quick, because tomorrow morning, I'm very excited about this, Candace.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
It only happens once a year.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
The big reveal, tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., we find
out who is nominated for a CMA award.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
And this is a huge honor.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
The CMAs and the Academy of Country Music are the
two big moments of the year for country artists. And
when you get nominated, this is a huge honor. Entertainer
of the Year. It's the highest, you know... Really, highest
level of being celebrated as a country star. So who
do you think is going to get nominated? I've already
made my picks. Are you ready to reveal anything that
(14:22):
you're thinking? Any of your nominees that you're definitely putting
on your list? Who would you go for?
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Okay, I think the no-brainer is Ella. So I'll put
that out there. Ella is going to be in there somewhere.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Well, no, not somewhere. We're talking about Entertainer of the Year.
It's not somewhere. You've got to be specific. We're going
to pick.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
You told me that I was doing female, male, and entertainer.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
And so I'm like, well, there's two categories that can
feature Ella.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
I'm pretty sure that Ella's going to be in both
of them.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Oh, you're going to put her in both? Oh, look
at that.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
She just told us she's going to put her for
female and entertainer. I don't think I even went. Did
I go that far or did I do the same
with Ella?
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Oh, I did the same thing. Yeah, you did, yes.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
I got Ella for entertainer and for a female. I
don't have my list in front of me anymore. So
we're going to compare it. We're both shooting videos, and
we're going to see who gets more points tomorrow morning
at 9 a.m.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Come on, I am.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Rooting for you tomorrow morning, you know? I'm even going
to get the whole thing going. You know who's going
to do it.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Let's do a Candace cheer. Let's go, Candace. Let's go, Candace. C-A-N-D-A-C-E.
I was just glad he didn't mess it up and
spell it wrong.
