Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some mornings, it's tough to remember to take everything with
you out the door. Your lunch, your security badge, whatever
you need to get in at work. Other mornings, everything
just seems to click. You know what the difference is?
Those slow mornings you probably missed. 93.1 WPOC.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
The Michael J. Morning Show. Hope you can join us
every morning. But if you.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Do happen to miss anything, maybe you can catch it
here on our podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Thanks for checking in. Follow, like, share, and keep listening. 93.1 WPOC.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
I've got my secret disguising voice.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
On today because we're breaking the rules.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Tomorrow? Shh, no.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Tell me up.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
You didn't hear this from us, but tomorrow morning is
the final purple passport Jersey number. You'll add that to
the one we're going to give you today in just
a moment. And then to all the ones we've given
you over the last two and a half weeks, you
come up with a number by being the ninth caller.
We can send you to Rio de Janeiro.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Hey, by the way, you know, you say you're trying
to disguise your voice and our bosses are pretty much aware.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
They know what you sound like.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
They know who you are.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
All right, well, here we go without further ado, and
we'll tell you where we're breaking the rules after we
give you today's Jersey info.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
And I think we should do it right now. It's
Zay Flowers.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Zay!

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Number four.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
That's right. What do we know about Zay?

Speaker 1 (01:37):
I know he was on the sidelines at practice against
the Commanders yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
And he did not.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Second straight practice.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Yeah, he didn't play because his ankle was bothering him.
And he was seen stretching it out. Now, while they're
downplaying the injury, there's still an injury. So Zay being,
you know, the primary target for Lamar, man, we hope
he can get it all figured out. They've got this
practice game against the Commanders Friday night at 7.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
And it says that he's likely to miss.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
No, of course they're going to miss because all the
starters are not playing in any of the preseason. So
Lamar's out. But here's what's cool, though. This is what
I was really encouraged by. They did a couple of
practice games against the Vikings. And Lamar's in doing his thing.
And then against the commanders, Lamar was in. So, see,

(02:29):
they've kept all of our starters out in preseason games
every year. Because you don't want to have an injury
with your main guys, you know. So, yes, they're out.
That doesn't mean anything. However, what it does just give
us some pause is that, you know, the reason that
Zay was not practicing was because his ankle's messed up.

(02:49):
We want him to be able to run and catch
the ball.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
All right.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
So that is what you're going to do. Add four,
four Zay flowers to your number. And here's what we're
doing behind it. It's mostly Candace. This is ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
It's mostly Candace.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
The boss knows it's not me.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
It's Michael.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
If you go to Michael J and Candace in the morning,
we're a team now.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
And then he signs it. Here's the clue. MJ and
C trying to put me into all of this. Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
That's really cute.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Ah, So if you're missing any Jersey numbers from our
whole process here, you hit us up on Facebook and
we're sliding some clues. 7.30 tomorrow morning, we give the
final Jersey for a trip to Rio de Janeiro. Now,
for you who has been listening every morning at 7.30

(03:41):
to get every one of the numbers, we thank you
for listening.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Now, we also have been putting up clues.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
If you go to our podcast, because you know, you
can catch parts of the show.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
You may have missed.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
If you play the Michael J and Candace podcast back, right?
There are clues. And if you go to Michael J
and Candace in the morning, there might be a clue
or two there. We're not giving any answers away. We're
not giving any answers away again. We're not giving any answers.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
We're giving, That's all I can say. And they're very,
very curious.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
And you have to be caller number nine tomorrow when
we ask for it. So get your passports ready for
this purple passport to Rio.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Michael J. and Candace in the morning on Facebook. Hey,
I'm over here giving away clues. I guess I got
to stop doing that, huh?

Speaker 4 (04:39):
He's too busy behind the scenes.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
At this purple passport. Michael J.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
And Candace in the morning. And we just heard from
a woman who said, hey, when are you giving away
the purple passport? So let me just give this information
really quick. Tomorrow morning at 730, the final jersey number,
which you'll add to your total. And then at 830,
we're going to give away the trip to Rio de Janeiro.

(05:06):
Your pop culture protein boost. It's The Brief.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
On 93.1 WPOC.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
The effort to rebuild the key bridge remains on track
on the same timeline and on budget. The project's chief
engineer says 80 of the 90 foundation piles that measure
eight feet in diameter and will support the replacement bridge
are now in place in the riverbed near the remains
of the old bridge that collapsed in 2024. Bidding opened
this week on the second of four contracts for demolition

(05:35):
and removal of the debris.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
The U.S.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Postal Service plans to raise prices for the peak holiday season.
Officials filed notice this week with the Postal Regulatory Commission
seeking permission to temporarily raise prices for some packages if approved.
The temporary rates will go into effect on October 4th
and remain in place through January 17th. The increase has
started 50 cents for lighter packages sent by Priority Mail

(06:00):
and USPS. Ground Advantage, the largest increase of more than
$ 20 is for packages through the Priority Mail Express that
weigh 26 to 70 pounds.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Some good news.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
How about the Maryland State Fair opens for.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Its first big weekend today.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
It will be held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in
Timonium this weekend and the next two long weekends.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
That is your break.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yesterday, we had a tough morning.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
And because when we had to come on the air
and talk about losing a Dolly Parton, that is something
we only do once in our life. And I just
want to say I was sucking it up and I didn't.
You know, until last night, Candice, I don't know why,
I just didn't let all the emotions get to me.
Then I got home and I really started thinking about it.

(06:46):
And I watched one of these recaps on the evening news.
And they just had all this stuff, one after another.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
It hits you hard.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
And I broke down.

Speaker 6 (06:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I really did. I understand.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
And I know it's been two days, but it's still
sinking in on me.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah. Because Dolly's been our whole life. So two and
a half minutes, we're going to do one more time.
special song that touches so many of us. Brad Paisley
had some incredible words to say, and the two of
them together were magical.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
So one more time, rest in peace, Dolly Parton. Michael
J's Music City Minute. In 60 seconds, you gonna know
like you own Music Row.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
All right, we're gonna do a little salute here to
Dolly this morning. We played When I Get Where I'm
Going a few minutes ago, and that song just rips.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Me up, you know?

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
It does.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
It got me yesterday right on the air.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
But we're circling back to this because we have started
a campaign based on the goodness of what Dolly did
in her life. And we started yesterday by challenging folks to,
in her honor, donate to a charity like Imagination Library
or any charity that you care about.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Yeah, any of your choice.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
So that was the first idea, and that kind of
morphed into, hey, maybe we can challenge people to do
good deeds.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
And you don't even need to spend money.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
No, and nothing's too small.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Right. So in honor of Dolly Parton, who was on
the country charts in seven decades, she started singing at
the age of 11, wrote her first song. 10, barely
11 years old.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Right.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
At 13, she appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. So
here's what we're doing. We're using hashtag... Good deeds for Dolly.
Hashtag good deeds for Dolly. Like this one. Tracy Wheaton
just dropped us a note. She says, hey there, Michael J.
and Candace in the morning. I went out and donated
$ 13 to Dolly's Imagination Library, hoping all fellow Swifties will

(08:52):
follow and donate $ 13 as well.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
God bless Dolly.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Oh, that was, I see what you did there. That
was sweet. Hey, we just got a text. Hey, I'm
in tears. That song with Dolly. Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
She will seriously, he will seriously miss that woman. She
was magnificent. God bless you, Dolly.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
So we challenge you to do your own good deed,
you know, and it could be as simple as helping
somebody out, you know, maybe a few dollars short in
line at the checkout, whatever it might be. And if
you want to share it with us, all you need
to do is hashtag good deeds, plural, for Dolly. F-O-R,

(09:27):
not the number. So hashtag good deeds for Dolly.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
And you can share it with us. All right. That's
your music city, man. There is something.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Greater than us happening right now.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
It's a powerful movement.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
We've been talking about good deeds for Dolly and trying
to carry on some part of Dolly's legacy.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
You've got to hear what's coming in on the phones
right now. Hashtag good deeds for Dolly. 93.1 WPOC. We
got a couple of listeners who are sharing. They're good deeds.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Go ahead, sir. You are first.

Speaker 7 (10:04):
I stopped at a.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
Gas station to pump gas yesterday morning and probably 30
other vehicles in the lot. Lady comes over with her dog,
starts telling me her story that she needed $ 18 to
keep a roof over her head. And I normally don't
give money away. I live week to week. I can't
afford to do it. I asked her, I said, why
did you come to me? She said, I'm going to
tell you. Out of all these people in this lot,

(10:26):
God told me to come to you. That's why I
didn't ask nobody else.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
So if you can make that out, it's a little
hard on the phone. He was at a gas station,
and a woman walks up to him and says, God
told me to come to you and ask for $ 18.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
And the fact that he was the first one that.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
He was asked.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
But there's more. Listen to what he continues.

Speaker 6 (10:47):
And I said, let me tell you, Dolly sent you
the mail. Well, I stopped at a gas station.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
So Dolly, this is.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
And so he gave her the $ 18, and she started
crying and just lost it in the middle of a
gas station.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Then we go to the next telephone line. Here is
another gentleman.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
Yesterday I was in Giant, and I could see the
lady in front of me was struggling a little bit.

Speaker 7 (11:14):
I said to her, well, can I help you out?

Speaker 5 (11:17):
She said, yes, please.

Speaker 7 (11:18):
I said, I'm going to just pay for the bill.
So $ 111 and some change.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
Started crying. And I told her, it's okay. I needed
help once like that before, too. She was just so
sweet and so grateful and so thankful. She once said
thank you a hundred times, but I told her, it's okay.
We're supposed to help each other out.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Dude.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
If everybody did just a little something.

Speaker 7 (11:44):
You don't pay $ 111, but I'm just saying, if you've
got to help somebody. I think you feel better.

Speaker 5 (11:51):
I think you feel better than the person does because
you did such a great deed.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
You know what I mean? You're right.

Speaker 7 (11:59):
I'm always looking to help the next person.

Speaker 6 (12:01):
I once gave someone a pair of shoes right off
my feet.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (12:05):
And that's because I had plenty more shoes at the house.
I really needed them.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Billy, I want to tell you something.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
I know without a question in my heart, if Dolly Parton,
and she probably is hearing this, but if she was
sitting here listening, she would be in tears right now.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
The fact is, there's something powerful going on right now.
And you are a complete illustration of it.

Speaker 7 (12:28):
I was a poor kid growing up. But when I
had the chance to make it, I got a couple
dollars in my pocket. I can always get more. Some
people just can't.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
That is what this is about.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
It is good deeds for Dolly.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
That's touching.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
We'd love to hear your story.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
My God.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
And, you know, the first caller was saying of all days,
I mean, he usually sees people on his way to work.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
But of all days, yesterday is the day that it happened.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Hashtag good deeds for F.O.R. Dolly.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
And we have got I believe it's the lovely Laura
show here on the phone.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Laura, where are you calling from?

Speaker 8 (13:08):
Hi there. I'm calling in from Olney, Maryland.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Oh, I love Olney.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
You guys have got some beautiful things there. You guys
have got a really big garden center in Olney. I
don't remember the name of it, but I've been there
and they had a lot of really cool things around
Christmas time.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
I went to a school's football field and I was
blown away. I'm like, this is gorgeous down here.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
It is beautiful. It really is.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
So, Laura, we have got concert tickets for Casey Musgraves.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
I believe it's September 5th.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
It's EFG Bank Arena.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
You got to answer the three questions. You got to
be quick or we hang up on you. So get
us a response in three seconds, Laura.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Are you ready for the heat?

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Okay.

Speaker 8 (13:46):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 7 (13:47):
All right.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
We're talking and spotlighting a hashtag, good deeds for Dolly.
So we're going to go off of that theme today.
What's a good deed you've done?

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Three seconds.

Speaker 6 (13:58):
Go.

Speaker 8 (14:00):
So I actually contributed to her imagination library yesterday. I
was very inspired by your show, so I did make
a monetary donation.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
We truly appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
I'm going to start crying again right here because of
the response we've been getting this morning.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
The power of radio.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I love you for doing that.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
And the greater power of Dolly Parton, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
That's what it's about.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
All right, next question. What's a good deed someone has
done for you?

Speaker 2 (14:24):
You got three seconds.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Go.

Speaker 8 (14:27):
So someone paid it forward to me in the Duncan
drive-thru last month, and I was just having a bad day,
and something like that just turned it around so quickly
for me, and then I got to pay it forward
for the person behind me. So hopefully the chain continues,
but it was a great start to the day.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
I know.

Speaker 7 (14:46):
I really am.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
I love our family.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
One more question for Laura. She's got to get it.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
All right. What do you think is the most important
part of Dolly Parton's legacy?

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Go.

Speaker 8 (14:57):
I think that her commitment to childhood literacy is very
important as a teacher that is near and dear to
my heart. So the fact that she provided.
If not millions of books to little readers just makes
me so happy.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Well, thank you for your words.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Well-deserved tickets for you, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
I hope you have a great time at the Casey
Musgraves show. I couldn't be prouder to give them to
one of our loyal listeners than you with those answers today.
And you hold on the line, we'll get all the
info and get those tickets out to you. Casey Musgraves,
CFG Bank Arena, coming up September 5th. Way to go,
Laura from Olney, Maryland.
