Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some mornings, it's tough to remember to take everything with
you out the door, your lunch, your security badge, whatever
you need to get in at work. The other mornings,
everything just seems to click. You know what the difference
is those slow mornings. You've probably missed ninety three point
one WPOC The Michael J Morning Show. Hope you can

(00:20):
join us every morning, but if you do happen to
miss anything, maybe you can catch it here on our podcast.
Thanks for checking in, Follow, like, share, and keep listening.
So many things have got me thinking about what we're
going to do over the next couple of you know,
to three months.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Listen, my phone's gone nuts. Everyone has been.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Talking about the same thing, Candice. I just looked at
the texts. Look at this one that Diesel says, I
set my retirement date a couple of weeks ago. Now
the question is what do I want to accomplish before
I retire.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Here's what I'm thinking.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Here's what I'm thinking about, because time does fly, Diesel,
You're right, I'm thinking about how I can't believe it's
May twenty seventh May.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Where did May go? Was it right? And yeah? And
when it did go by quickly? And you know how quickly.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
I mean, now everybody's you know, graduating from school and
we're getting you're gonna blink now that we've made it through.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Memorial Day and summer's here.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
But this happens to me every single year because my
birthday is June twenty first, and so I look forward
to it, and then a week later it's July fourth,
and everybody's like, well, summer's half over already.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
I'm like, it just really officially begins.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
On June twenty first, I know, you know what I mean,
And it goes by so fast June July, August like blinks.
So I want to ask right now while we're thinking
about it, let's all live in this moment that it's
only late May. We've got all of summer ahead of us,
and this is the best time of year, in my
humble opinion, what is that one thing that you're looking

(01:57):
forward to doing this summer? Because I'm really not sure
what I want to make my one thing yet I'm
still kind of considering it. Maybe maybe if you are,
you might get some ideas some other people. Text us
at seven seven nine six two, start with hair high
and candis I want to know What is that one
thing you know? Is it to go down the ocean,
is it to go on a car ride, is it

(02:18):
to go hiking?

Speaker 3 (02:19):
What?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
What? What is that one thing that you really want
to do this summer? You have something to mind, you
want to know mine. I definitely do go see Kenny
Chesney in Vegas.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Well you're doing that right, That's on my bucket list,
much less my summer twenty sixth bucket list.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
So I am looking forward to that.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Vegas is my favorite place and Kenny is my favorite concert,
so it just kind of makes sense.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
But you know, I think too there can.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Also be things right here in Maryland that can be
on your summer book. So I'd love to hear from everybody.
Seven seven nine six two. Start with hair high.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
What is that one thing that you're you're really excited
to do? You've already got planned or you would you
were thinking about it, because we're just trying to share ideas.
I mean, I've got some wild like bucket list things
that I don't I'm not gonna be able to do
this summer just because there's I've got my son's wedding
coming up in September, and I've got a bunch of
things happening, so I'm kind of saving you know, budgetary.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, your while it needs to be closed, Yeah it does.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
But I'll tell you right now that one thing that's
in my bucket that I want to do at some point,
I want to go to the Amalfi Coast in Italy,
in Italy, and I want to go to is it Punsitano,
and I want to see those huge, huge lemons. I've
seen pictures of it. I've seen the you know, the
water and the way that the coastline is on that cliff.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
That's that's that is on my bucket.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
So I don't know if I'm going to do that
anytime real soon, but that's that's what I'm thinking about.
What is your one thing, Candice is gone? Are we
on your number one preset? We would love to be
on that preset button in your car, your truck and
on your iHeartRadio app. If you want Candace in the morning,

(04:06):
you need to put us on your number one preset.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
You hear what I'm saying, Thank goodness, put us on
your baby. Right.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
So here, you were talking about what you want, you
want to go to Italy for this summer, and we
just got a tag saying I just got back from
the Amalfi Coast in Italy. That was my big summer trip.
I have a picture holding the big lemons. Michael is jealous, Candace.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
I want to hold those big lemons so bad you
have you have no idea. That is my dream to
hold the biggest lemons I can find.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
And so there's that. But I'm not going to be
doing that this summer.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
And I just want to I want to say this
as we hit these texts real quick seven seven nine
six two. You know, the cost of living is really
touching all of us because you got gas, you got
I mean groceries. I was walking through the grocery store
last weekend and it had been a minute since I
had been in. Because to be completely transparent, my wife

(05:03):
does a lot of the grocery shopping, and I'm like,
you know, I'll run out and get something here and there.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
But I mean, it's ridiculous when.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
You look at like a bag of chips is almost
six dollars.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
It's great.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yes, So with that all being what it is, we've
got to we got to modify a little bit, right.
I'm doing it because my kids getting married in September.
I gotta kind of modify. So there are ways to
do that one thing this summer that's not going to
cost an arm in a league. Like look at Brandon
from Westminster. He says, I'm looking forward to a cruise

(05:34):
in a couple of weeks. Cruises are they're not? Cruises
aren't ridiculously expensive?

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Are they? Depending what you're doing, you could do it.
It depends on what you're doing where you're going. Right.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
And crabs, now that's another thing that's gotten very pricey,
and you know you were just saying, what is it for?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Like the big fat ones is like one hundred dollars
a dozen?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Now?

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Right? Or right?

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Oh yeah, we yeah, we just paid about ten dollars
of crabs for extra large crabs.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
I mean they were very full, but right, they're expensive.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Now, well, how many crabs did you say are in
the Chesapeake Bay? We can go out and go crabbing
a lot cheaper than that, right, if.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
You want to go catch yeah, we can like three
hundred and fifty million. Let's let's do it. Right.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
We did get quite a few techs though, about people
saying that they are looking forward to eating some Maryland crabs.
So we are with you. That's on our summer bucket list.
I would say, right, Michael, Yeah, Hey.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
My family and I are looking forward to a cruise
out of Baltimore June fourteenth, and we want some crabs.
Here's another Texter, I'm looking forward to Country in the
Quarters concert with Nico Moon August sixteenth at the Tar
Family Farm. So a lot of people looking for concerts
like you are, because you had mentioned you're looking forward
to seeing Kenny in Vegas at the Sphere, right yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
And another Texter said, Candas has the best idea. Kenny
and Vegas at this sphere is awesome. I went last
year for a long girl's weekend and it was the
best time ever.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
I am sure totally understand that.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
But somebody else, I said Tim mcgrawlind Lady A and
Hershey this summer.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yeah, row baby, there's another good one high weekend Rocky
Gap in Maryland, kayaking on the lake that doesn't cost
an marmon Lake.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Right, hey, it's a net, I will think so now.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
A net says she wants to go fly to Florida
the end of June to see family and watch my
niece dance and her national competition go Mackenzie Faith.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
That's awesome, Go Mackenzie Faith. We're behind that.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
That sounds like a lot of fun. What else is
on the list here? We've got a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Tell somebody else said, I would love to.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
See Jelly Roll in concert, but unfortunately you know that
we won't be able to make that happen in this year.
But the biggest thing is we're moving towards the beach.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yep, there you go, right, So a good one. So
what is that.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
One thing you're looking forward to this summer?

Speaker 2 (07:45):
How about them? Os Han?

Speaker 1 (07:47):
We're in a good mood after the Orioles smacked the
Tampa Bay Rays. Anytime we can beat Tampa, I say,
that's a good thing.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
Your pop culture protein booth. Yep, it's the brief on
ninety three point one poc.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
All right, eighth six, Michael j and Candace in the morning. Candace,
what's going on in the brief?

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Governor Wesmore assigned a bill into law yesterday that will
restrict students' use of cell phones and other personal devices
in public schools. The Maryland Phone Freeze Schools Act requires
every local board of Education to adopt policies to go
into effect. Starting in the twenty seven to twenty eight
school year. It would restrict use of cell phones, laptops,
and other devices, and also ban access to social media

(08:28):
during school hours. The new law allows cell phone use
for educational purposes, student health needs, and school emergencies. According
to the bill, it would be up to every district
to determine how the bans would be enforced. However, the
legislation prohibits a student from being suspended or expelled just
for violations of the policy. In Baltimore County, cocktails to

(08:50):
go are returning after Governor Wesmore's signed legislation making the
option permanent nearly three years after the allowance expired. More
assigned bills yesterday, a move supporters say will increase convenience
for adult consumers while supportingcle restaurants and bars.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Cocktails to go were permitted.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
In Maryland during the COVID nineteen pandemic to help businesses
day afloat in provide flexibility for consumers, but that expired
in June twenty twenty three. A bizarre story out of
South Carolina, a fifty six year old woman is killed
by a flying patio umbrella that hit her while she
dined at a lakeside restaurant in the South Carolina this weekend.

(09:32):
The woman was dining with her husband on Saturday evening
when a strong gust of wind blew an umbrella from
a nearby table, which hit her in the head and
neck area.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
The woman died at this scene. That is your brief.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
Saluting our troops. It's Military Appreciation Month on WPOC.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah, Michael J and Candice in the morning, and it
is my honor this morning to salute Kimberly Moore. Now, Kimberly,
let me make sure I've got everything correct and any
facts that are messed up or I screw anything up,
please jump right in and correct me. Kimberly Moore originally
you're from Texas, from Frisco, Texas. You served in the

(10:11):
Army from twenty ten to twenty twelve. Corporal training accident
left or led to knee, hip and back injuries. You
were registered with the Wounded Warrior Project since twenty four
and you've done multiple programs including the Soldier Ride. We're
going to talk about a mental health adventure program called

(10:35):
Project Odyssey, and you were involved with a health expo
to learn healthy living practices.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Do I have all of that correct.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
You did phenomenon, mikd. I really appreciate that and rocked
it out.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Kimberly. And can I call you kim? What do your
friends call you?

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Hey? As long as it's friendly.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
All right, Well, Kimberly, I want to give you your
proper name. First off. You know, as everyone says, thank you,
thank you, thank you, I can't thank you enough. I
want to give you a hug for everything that everything
that you have done and everything you're doing. You're with
a group of heroes that's truly amazing, and you're in
Baltimore right now.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I understand right, yes, yes, sir, yes, sir, And it's Michael.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
You don't don't. I'm gonna call you, ma'am. You don't
need to call me sir.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Trust me.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
So, as I understand this, the Soldier ride two fifty
it stands a thousand miles. So the group the Wounded
Warrior Project left the headquarters in Jacksonville, and you're headed
to Firehouse ten, right next to Ground zero in New
York City, and you are going to be on this
final leg.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
You're going to New York.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Huh. We are, yes, and I am I'm looking forward
to it. I'm looking forward to really memorializing my brothers
and sisters that did not make it.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, that is what this is all about.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
And I want to make sure as we're doing this
conversation here, I want to mention the Wounded Warrior Project
dot RG because this whole thing is run on donations,
and maybe you can speak to this if you could
talk a little bit about, you know, veterans and what
really needs to be done so that we can help

(12:19):
veterans overcome a lot of the hurdles that they're facing.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
So, so Michael, first of all, I want to say
I do want to say thank you as well to
all the donors from NFL Salutes, which is a huge
supporter of this ride, to Deloitte, to everyday donors that
see our commercials, see the QR codes and say hey,
I really want to help these warriors. So I want

(12:45):
to say thank you to them first and foremost because
without those people, without those companies, we would not be
able to do this. And these rides are life changing,
whether we're doing this Soldier ride to fifty or doing
a short ride in a local city. For me, I
can I can give you my opinion on it. This

(13:08):
this ride alone has been life changing, not only for
the actual cycling in itself, but also being with the
other warriors and getting to know them and taking this
journey with them.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Going through I mean, it's it's an ordeal to be
I can't imagine riding two hundred and fifty miles like
you're going to be and you're gonna be on like
ninety five or where do you do you go on
back roads?

Speaker 2 (13:32):
What is it? What is the trip like in New York?

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Yeah, some of the roads or back roads, some of
them are trails, right, some of the roads we have
police escorts.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
We will have.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
The fireman from the firehouse ten will be escorting.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Us in New York. So that's awesome.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
It's all different. Yeah, it's all different.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
So where do you know where you are in Baltimore
right now? You're at a hotel. I understand on the
east side. Do you know where?

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Well, that is a great question, because you guys.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Just follow holiday in right now and that's about all
I know. I apologize.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
No, No, I know you're.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Near White Marsh and I know that you're you're headed
up the east because because if so, they left Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
The first segment.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Do you know where they went to from Jacksonville up
to Lake Carolina or something?

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Right?

Speaker 3 (14:20):
The first really they I think the first segment was
to South Carolina. Okay, Jacksonville is at South Carolina.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
And then and then the second segment went up to
to where from South Carolina north to Hampton Road.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Okay, a great place. That's where I was stationed. So's awesome.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
And then the third crew got in and came came to.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Baltimore right or yeah, in Norfolk to DC DC, and
then you started yesterday from DC and your segment of
this ride goes up to New York.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
It's just it's an amazing thing.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
So it's this. It's a Soldier Ride two fifty. It's
an adaptive cycling event spanning one thousand mile e and
these are wounded warriors and you guys have got all
sorts of different types of bikes to make it and
make it possible for various injuries. Are you on a
recumbent bike or you want a specialized bike yourself?

Speaker 3 (15:14):
So I'm on an upright bike. Fortunately for me, my
injuries allow me to be on an upright bike, although
I cannot fill my list foot and I do have
a total knee replacement on my right leg. I have
to be very mindful of that, but I am fortunate
enough to be on an upright bike right. But we
do have several solo warriors on this ride that are

(15:35):
on recumbent bikes, and those are phenomenal pieces of equipment.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Well, thank you for sharing this with us. I know
you're ready to get on your bike and ride off
to New York. I wish you the best of luck.
I mean, my butt gets no I'm riding like a
mile so I don't know how the heck you're doing
two point fifty with a knee replacement and everything you've
been through. But I hope you I hope you're comfortable
with me calling you a hero because you are. And

(16:00):
please let everyone else know that you're riding with how
much we love you and appreciate everything that you guys
have done.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
Thank you for your support, Michael, I really appreciate you
saying that.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
That means the world.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Corporal Kimberly Moore, we salute you today for your service
in the United States Army after an accident left her
with knee, hip and back injuries. But look at her
you're riding to New York City. Go get them, girl,
go get them. That is awesome. It is wonderful talking
to you today, and again, congratulations on everything you've accomplished.

(16:32):
It's awesoming, Molly on a one to ten scale. What
do you give that song from Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen?
Honest opinion? And they're hot, both of them are, aren't they?

Speaker 3 (16:44):
They are?

Speaker 2 (16:46):
So here's this story. And what part of town are
you from? Molly?

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I am from Annapolis, Maryland?

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Got it?

Speaker 1 (16:52):
So, Molly in Annapolis, you have an eleven year old daughter, Gracie,
and she's never been she's never been to a concert.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Huh no, and she is begging me, begging me to
go see Megan Maroney.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well, mom, better not mess up in the hot seat.
That's what I'm saying. All right, Molly, I got three
questions and you got to answer before we hear a buzzer,
so I can give the tickets to you and Gracey.
Can you imagine how much fun the two a ye'ar
gonna have so much fun with Gracy?

Speaker 5 (17:22):
Got it would be?

Speaker 3 (17:23):
It's a core memory memory, it is.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
A core memory. Well, let's make it happen.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Then, so thinking of me, thinking of Megan Marony June
the fifth at CFG Bank Arena and Baltimore. Are you
thinking Pink Camo or Pink Sparkles go?

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Pink Sparkled would be my daughter's choice, and Pink would
go though for Cloud nine?

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Right exactly? So you know about it all right? What
here's your second question? And all you need to do
is give me the name? What Megan Marony song? Do
you and Gracy know the words too? From the beginning to.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
The end that medicine.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
I couldn't even start the timer. You said, it's so fast.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
I mean, honestly, I could have given you any of
her thoughts. Right.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Well, that's good.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
You're one question away from taking Gracie to her very
first country concert.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Are you ready?

Speaker 1 (18:16):
I'm ready, Molly, Cowboy boots or heels go.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Cowboy boots.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yeah, there you go. You just did it. You're taking
Gracie to the show.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Oh my god, here's gonna lose her mind.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
This is amazing.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Is she at school right now?

Speaker 3 (18:35):
He is at school right now? And I have to
tell you I actually called right before Mother's Day got
on the air, and I missed that greeting card question.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
What are you Avis, trying to tell me something? What
did you want to say? What if you.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Could record a video of you telling Gracy she's going
to make him Marony.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
We love to post it on the Michael J in
the Morning Instagram and Facebook.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
That would be cute. Yes, my god. Yeah so maybe
and then maybe Megan will see it.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
You never know, Yeah, because Megan good said, we'll tag Megan.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Yeah do us.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
That's awesome. Maybe, but thanks for bringing that idea up.
So yeah, shoot a video of you telling Gracie that
you won her tickets for Megan Maroney and let's see, well,
let's I want to see this reaction. That is so cute.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Hold on the line for a second. We will get
all the info.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Congratulations Molly from Annapolis, taking care of the hot seat
like a champ today
