Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some mornings, it's tough to remember to take everything with
you out the door. Your lunch, your security badge, whatever
you need to get in at work. Other mornings, everything
just seems to click. You know what the difference is?
Those slow mornings you probably missed. 93.1 WPOC.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
The Michael J. Morning Show. Hope you can join us
every morning.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
But if you do happen to miss anything, maybe you
can catch it here on our podcast. Thanks for checking in. Follow, like, share,
and keep listening. 93.1 WPOC. And in the world of
ridiculously expensive real estate in our area, there's a former
baseball player who lives up in, what is it, Baltimore County?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Candace. And you said.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
The house is on the market for how much?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Six million.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Oh my gosh. We cannot.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Oh, we can talk about it. It's public information. It's a,
it's all a house listed. Can you imagine a $ 6
million house? What would the taxes be? And oh my God,
how many, does it say how many bedrooms and bathrooms
it is? Is it huge?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
It must be.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
It's, it's six bedrooms, six baths, but it's like out
of this world inside.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I mean, it's, The guy used to pitch?
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Very modern, and it's under $ 6 million. Now, you know,
I was a reporter who went in when Cal Ripken's
house was being sold, and I was like, huh?
Speaker 3 (01:27):
I'll never see another one like this.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah, well, Cal's house didn't even go for $ 6 million,
so good luck.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
There, AJ.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
Michael J's Music City Minute. In 60 seconds, you gonna
know like you own Music Row.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
First thing they gotta do when they sell it is
get the voodoo off of it from being a Yankees house,
I would say. I know what you mean.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
You know what I mean? If there's pinstripes in the closet,
take them out.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Get them out of here. All right, so here's what's
going on.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, social media appears to be all over Luke Bryan.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Poor dude. Listen to this.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Between his songs Fish, Hunt, Golf, Drink, and Down Goes
the Whiskey, the internet has been unkind to Luke making
fun of his songs, saying they're like, you know, AI,
or they're just wondering who wrote them. In his latest comment. What? Yeah,
listen to this. They've been attacking him. So if his
latest comment is any indication, Luke has had enough.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
He responded.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Good.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Luke responded to one troll. Let me see if I
can translate this. Family friendly troll. He said, if I
see you one day, I'm going to effing knock the
S out of you, dude.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Luke's losing his temper.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
So you can check that out on social media. I
can tell you there is a story from Taylor Swift's house.
Taylor and Travis Kelsey, her husband now, are proud dog
parents to a fluffy white Samoan.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Now, you may know Taylor is a cat lady.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
She has three cats, Meredith Gray, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button.
Those are the names of Taylor's precedents. Well, I don't
know if they were in the wedding or not, but
they came with the package. They were already there when
Travis married her. But now Travis Kelsey volunteered their dog
for a Tommy Hilfiger fashion campaign stating she crushed it
(03:14):
and actually really fit into the Tommy aesthetic too. So
Taylor and Travis's dog and the dog's name.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Are you ready for this? Wendy. We would name a
dog Wendy. Wendy. Taylor would, right? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Can I just take you back to yesterday, Candace? It
was a very special day around here. I told you
that I had a feeling something was going on. I
didn't know. And I'm superstitious to the extent that I
don't want to say things before they happen.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
And we knew they were going to be making the
announcement at 11 o'clock yesterday morning about nominees for for
the CMA Awards for the broadcast category. Now, for all
the real legitimate stars, the real legitimate CMAs, they are
going to be handed out on the 10th of September.
That's when we find out who's up for Entertainer of
(04:11):
the Year, male and female, and, you know, new artist
and album and all the good stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
That comes out September 10th. But yesterday....
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Now, I don't want to say that this is illegitimate,
but we're the broadcast category. But I still, can you
imagine if we were to ever get one of these
CMA award trophies, Candace?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
They're so beautiful.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Excuse me. This is legitimate, okay?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
All right.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
As legit as it's going to get in my world.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Well, here's what happened yesterday. You and I are doing
our daily work here in the studio. And all of
a sudden, we see big boss man Jeff at the door.
And he comes in clapping. Come on.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Listen, everybody.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
P.O.C.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Got nominated.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Hell yeah. Hell yeah. So what we found out a
good day.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Let me now let me kind of can I rewind
it just so we know where we're at. Michael J.
and Candace and Ava super producer. Ava, you're getting props
on this, too. And I'm serious because you, listen, behind
the scenes, you do a lot of work with everything
that's up on Facebook and Instagram and TikTok and people
following Michael J.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
And Candace in the morning. Well, thank you. We appreciate
all your help.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
And when it came to submitting the actual package, you
were involved with that too.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
And you helped out quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
It was a couple of long days we were involved
with behind the scenes, putting this whole submission in. And
so we're very honored, seriously honored, to tell you Michael J.
and Candace in the morning, and Super Producer Ava in
the background, have been nominated for Major Market Air Personalities
of the Year. We're up against some other very deserving folks.
(05:58):
But we would like, we want nothing against Lowe in Houston,
the Lowe Show, and nothing against Andy Summers in Philadelphia.
And a couple other shows, which I'm not familiar with,
ones in like Chicago, some dude up there.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
All I know is.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
We would be honored to take those trophies and hold
them high for Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Like the Lombardi, when the Ravens hold it after the
Super Bowl, we want to hold it high.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Uh-huh.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
Right? Yes.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
It's– It's real shimmery, like clear. It's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Get a picture of it, Ava, and put it up,
and this is what we're going for. Put it on
Michael J. and Candice in the morning. I want everyone
to see the actual trophy. It is the one bowling
trophy I would be honored to put on my dining
room table.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
All right? Your centerpiece, right?
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah. It's a very beautiful piece of crystal.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
I would.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah. So that's the first big news. But did you
hear what big boss man Jeff said when he was applauding?
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Oh, it's fun. Because you said, who won? Who got nominated?
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Everybody.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Everybody. What does everybody mean? That means Michael J. and Candace.
That means WPOC.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
We are up for major market radio station of the year.
And so is our sister station in Washington, D.C., 98.7
WMZQ so the fact is this is like a trifecta
for us because we're all working on all these efforts
behind the scenes it is I'm just so the the
reason we mentioned this huge news this morning is we
(07:31):
would not have any of these opportunities without our dedicated
12 listeners and I want you to know listening in
your car this morning that you have put Baltimore on
the flipping map the world of country music nashville wakes
up this morning knowing about baltimore and 93.1 wpoc because
(07:52):
of you we just shared huge news regarding the country
music association and michael j and candace in the morning
getting a huge nomination uh we're gonna revamp the last
five months here in Kind of review, Candice, what has
accomplished in the last five months next.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
It is mind-numbing. Big news we shared just moments ago.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
The CMA, the Country Music Association, has announced WPOC has
been nominated for Country Radio Station of the Year. Can
I get a hallelujah?
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Mind-blowing.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Can I get an amen?
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
All right.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
We have been lucky enough to win this trophy in
the past, and to be nominated again is beyond an honor.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
And in addition, not only.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Did we get that news yesterday, we also learned that
this little morning show, Michael J. and Candace in the Morning,
has been nominated for Major Market Air Personalities of the Year.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yeah!
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Yeah! Yeah!
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah! And, you know, here's the other part of this
whole conundrum.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
I'm trying to track how many times I've been involved
with a nomination, Candace. And I went back and I
have 2003, 2004, 2007, 2014, 15, 17, 2024. And now
with you, Candace, you're in 2026. And yet to bring
(09:23):
it home. And I feel that I'm done being the
Susan Lucci of radio.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
OK, it's time.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
We bring this home and and lift the trophy for Baltimore.
We've got to do it this year. OK, so what
do we have to do? Who do we have to
pay off? Whose house do we have to go knock
on the front door?
Speaker 3 (09:42):
No, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
We have gone over. Here's the irony of all of this.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
As you may remember, if you've been listening for a moment,
yesterday was our five-month anniversary. And I think, Candice, I
want to congratulate you because you're brand new to country.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Radio.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
And for you to walk in in your six-inch heels
and sequined dress looking for a bedazzled microphone, which you
have not yet found, I think you've accomplished a lot
in five months. I have to tell you, five months
into country radio for me, I was nowhere near a
CMA award nomination.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
All right. I just want you to know that. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Well, I appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
I guess I was busy doing the TV thing for
the last few years. And then I was like, when
they said CMA, I'm like, guys, come on. Like, this
is way out of my league. And then a boss
came in and told us. And I'm like, yeah, we
got to take a trip down memory lane, though.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Well, just the last five months. Well, on April 1st,
we had real fan Dan giving a C. Yeah, it
all started with a real fan, Dan, on what was
April Fool's Day, but we were not fooling. Candace was
here for good. Dustin Lynch announced us that month. It
seems like years ago, but it was only five months ago.
(11:04):
So much has happened. In May, we want to give
a shout out to Cakes Plus. We had a second
cake for you. Remember, we had a cake on April 1st.
We did it again on May 1st. Baltimore Magazine announced
the arrival of Michael J. and Candice in the morning
back in May. Oh, and then you made your debut
as a solo DJ.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
On the weekend for the first time in your life
in May, right?
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Yes, yes, on Sundays.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
You can hear me on Sundays from 3 to 7,
and it all started in May.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
And then look what happened in June. Remember Megan Maroney
backstage giving Candace... You got the idea to get that
pink microphone you've been begging for, which has not happened yet.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Yeah, it all started.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
It all started then.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
When I found out that we were talking to Megan,
I'm like, okay, a few things. I know that I
can't wear a pink dress because she's going to wear
pink and look like a million bucks.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Right.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
And then I saw the microphone back there and I'm like, well,
I can have one of those.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
See, I don't think you can get that.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I don't think you're entitled to a bedazzled microphone until
we win the CMA award.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
See, that's what I think. Personally.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
I just don't.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
I think it's a little presumptuous to have a bedazzled
microphone prior to a CMA award.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
But we'll see. Greater things could happen. All right, traffic.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
I've been in country radio for five months.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Yeah. I was nominated for a CMA.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
I can get a bedazzled microphone, okay?
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Your pop culture protein boost. It's The Brief on 93.1 WPOC.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
A state audit revealed that the Maryland Transportation Authority failed
to use available enforcement tools to collect more than $ 800
million in unpaid tolls and penalties from out-of-state drivers. The
authority did not establish enforcement agreements with other states, hire
a private collection agency, or seek approval to refer the
debt to Maryland's Central Collection Unit.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Most of the debt has been outstanding for years.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
These findings come as the state faces a significant budget
gap and transportation project delays due to rising costs. A
driver in Abingdon rammed three vehicles, including a sheriff's deputy's
patrol car, prompting deputies to fire their guns as the
driver attempted to flee. The incident occurred after deputies responded
(13:18):
to a tip about drug activity in the area.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
The driver refused to stop, leading to the confrontation.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
The suspect fled on foot but was later apprehended and
received medical treatment.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
The incident is under investigation.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
The Pretty Boy Reservoir boat ramp is closed due to
drought conditions with trailer boats prohibited from launching or retrieving
at this site.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Kayaks and hand-launched watercraft are still allowed.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
The closure will remain in place until conditions improve. Boat
ramps at the Liberty and Lock Raven Reservoirs are still
open with boating season ending December 31st.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
That is your brief.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
Michael J's Music City Minute. In 60 seconds, you gonna
know like you own Music Row.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
There's so much going on. Where do we even start?
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Well, how about right here at the top with Kacey
Musgraves now becoming the latest country singer to pay tribute
to To Dolly Parton. So much has been said about Dolly.
Do you know she passed away a week ago yesterday?
Was laid to rest in Nashville next to her late husband.
This past weekend, well, at a concert in Boston, Kacey
(14:27):
Musgraves performed Here You Come. I can't sing it, but
it's one of my favorite songs. Candice, don't you love
Here You Come Again from Dolly? That is such a
good song.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yes, but yeah, we shouldn't try.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Yeah, I will not. But Kacey performed it.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
She dedicated her own song, Rainbow, as well to the
memory of Dolly before the tribute performance. Lots of country
singers have been doing the same from Miley Cyrus to
stars in other formats. Eminem, Pitbull paid tribute to Dolly
in various ways since her passing on August 25th. So
(15:02):
the tributes will continue to come in. And you should
know that September 25th. Ironically, 925 will be 925 day.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Garth Brooks has.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Announced he's going to be giving every penny of proceeds
from his bar in Nashville to her imagination library. We're
going to be doing much the same here. We're going
to call it Dolly Day on September 25th. That's a
Friday with Michael J. and Candace in the morning. We'll
make sure to bring that to you. And Ella Langley
(15:33):
had a full circle moment. Growing up, she was lucky
enough to have a teacher named Coach Pop who taught
her about music. On our Music City Minute next hour,
we're going to tell you about how they reunited. It
was a very sweet moment backstage for Ella and a
teacher she had from school.
