Speaker 1 (00:00):
And I thought I was a huge Yeah. I was
in Charlotte at the time, and I got flown out
to LA and on my panel that day was Chris Mannis.
It was crazy like Chris Mannis for nfl AM And anyway,
I never got chosen. I went back to Charlotte, had
to cover Cam Newton for the first four years of
his career. Steve Weish did and they made the right

(00:22):
move and here he is after all these years. Mister Wish,
good to have you. I haven't talked to you since
I've been here in Seattle, but I've got Let's start
with the Hawks, man, Rashil Shaheed, this team six and two,
and I gotta ask you, man, what did you think
about this move yesterday and giving up a fourth and
a fifth round pick? Was that too much? Or do
you think that John Schneider nailed it again?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
This is such a good trade. I mean, Rashiiahed, you know,
it's kind of like the old Chris Carter saying all
he does is catch touchdown. Every time you look up,
this dude is blowing the top off of a defense,
gets over the top of a defense, and he's catching
a touchdown. He's also highly packful in the return game,
so let's not forget that part. Now he does have
an expiring contract, you may shave yourself. Well, that's fourth

(01:07):
and fifth round picks for a lot for a guy
with an expiring contract. Well, you're not paying that much
on the contract. I believe it's a five point two
million dollar deal, so economically it's not a big hit. However,
if he's good, if he does everything he should do,
this only makes an already explosive offense better. He can
end up signing a multi year deal after the season.

(01:28):
The Seahawks could be playing in San Francisco, you know,
the Bay Area in the Super Bowl, because he changes
their offense a little bit as good as JSN has been,
and you know, he's mainly up the same guy. You know,
he can hit you know, intermediate routes and deep uts.
This is that guy who's got you know, just that
next level of speed where when teams are preparing to

(01:49):
play the Seahawks now like, whooa, okay, we can't let
this guy get behind us because he'll burn us. Well,
that opens up the field for everybody else. I mean,
not just for for JSN, but if Cooper Cup is
healthy it opens field up for him, and of course
a tight end with Barnar and Arroyo who are doing
their things. I love the trade, I absolutely love it.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, it gives him an extra of dimension in Steve.
I mean, here we are, and you know, John Schneider,
I said this throughout. I've only been here nine months,
but I said this throughout the course of the season.
I've always looked at John Schneider from the outside looking in,
and now I'm on the inside looking out. But I've
always looked at him was sub the most like utter reverence.
And now you're saying, why look at what he did

(02:28):
in the off season. Look at you know, changing going
away from Geno and DK and Tyler Lockett and going
now with Sam Darnold and elevating JSN Cooper Cup to
Marcus Lawrence and and Tory Horton as a fifth round pick,
grayz Abel, all.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Those, I mean, you know, the gods guy Jalen noil
Row is there for a packages as they need him.
I mean, so no, but Josh styles one the best
and he comes from that that that that kind of
grouping of of packers, you know, personnel executives who all
were really could together. And look, he's he's built championship
teams there for years and so it's hard to sustain

(03:08):
it year after year. But it looks like he hired
the right coach. They got to get coaching staff. So
this team, you know, with Darnold, looks I mean, they
look absolutely dangerous, and I think they're only ascending. And
the physicality that they play with on both sides of
the ball. They did last week with that with that
defensive front, like, oh man, I mean, that's that's like

(03:29):
they got to do.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Teams have to deal with this too, Steve, Where do
you rank the Seahawks right now amongst the pantheon of
the best teams in the league.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Oh, they're they're probably in the top three or four. I mean,
I i'd I'd tell you i'd be I have no
problem in saying that they're one of the best teams
in the NFC for sure. And that's you know, with
the with the Rams and Niners kind of nipping at
their heels a little bit, but I think they're they're
still the cream of the crop right there. And then
you know, you've got Buffalo, You've got Kansas City, You've
got a couple of teams, the AFC, the Colts maybe,

(04:00):
but again, you look at the way the Seahawks are playing,
adding Chihet and I'll tell you, if people get their
eyes on shaheet, they're like, we haven't had a guy
who can run like this. I mean, he can get it.
He's a very special type of talent on that list,
kind of unknown because he played in New Orleans and
they've been struggling. So this is this is gonna change things.
I mean, so again, they're they're definitely among the league,

(04:21):
the leagu's elite.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Steve Wish from NFL Network Chief national reporter here on
MJ in the midday Mark James Sports Radio ninety three
three KJRFM. So we all knew that that would happen.
I think the biggest surprise though, now the defense. Kind
of to quote the late great Denny Green, you know,
the Seahawks when it comes to defense, they are who

(04:43):
we thought they were. I mean, they're even better than
we thought they would be. They're that damn good. No surprise.
Like the Mariners rotation going into the season, barring injuries,
we knew it was gonna be amongst the best in baseball.
That being said, how could you assess the first half
of the season of Sam Darnald, And I've got to
ask you, and again we're eight in nine ago in

(05:06):
the regular and then we're gonna have a postseason here
knock on wood. But is Sam Donald? Is it more
impressive of what he's doing here in Seattle than what
he did with Kevin O'Connell in that kind of tailor
made ecosystem where he just plugs and play a quarterback
a in that system and they just have success. Is

(05:26):
it more impressive of what he's doing here in Seattle.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
That's a great question. I don't think it's simple as
that you just plug a quarterback in they're going to succeed.
But Kevin O'Connell's a heck of a coach. But you
got Clint Coobiac, you know, who's shown that he could
do some things. Even though it didn't go well for
him last year in New Orleans. It wasn't his fault,
it was no personal fault. Again, that's another reason why
she heat is a good fit because of that relationship.
But just to kind of go back and to Donald,

(05:51):
he's just showing how good he is. I mean, last
year we spent all season in Minnesota saying Okay, when
is the carriage going to turn into a pumpkin? And
it did and what Week eight in the playoffs. I
don't think anyone's saying that now because he is surrounded
by such a loaded defense. They just gave piece, added
a piece to help him. This offensive line is playing
much better, and he's dealing. I mean, you can't sell

(06:13):
him short anymore. He's he's their franchise quarterback. He's the
guy that can build the rest of their team around.
And so I don't think people around the league now
are saying, hey, we're waiting for, you know, the trap
door to fall. I think they're like Seattle is an
ascending team at a large part because of Sam Donald.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Do you see this being a potential You know, the
Legion of Boom had a nice five year window. Do
you see that window now just kind of opening up
that a lot of guys that you know, aside from
Rik Wollyn Boy Mafey, they're under contract and they could
be re signed. Do you see this being the beginning
of what started here in twenty twelve with John Schneider

(06:54):
and Pete Carroll, that this could be the beginning of
something very special with the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Absolute, absolutely, because you talked about the way they replenished,
you know, getting rid of guys like DK Metcalf and
Tyler Lockett and players like that. Like they didn't wait
the old you know, year too late to make the move.
They got younger players in here who are on rookie
deals or on not super expensive deals, who've got you know,

(07:21):
some football wife to go before they've got to start
paying people. I mean that's of course in the Legion
to Boom and all those guys who came in together
wanted to get paid. That's when things were kind of like, okay,
you can only pay so many guys, and there's some
hurt feelings and things like that. I mean, it happens
like that with every team. So the way they're structured
right now, this isn't just like a one year surprise deal.
They didn't go all in on veteran free agents like

(07:44):
some teams to kind of get over the hum. They
have built this through the draft, which is a John Schneider,
you know, that's that's what he does. Build it through
the draft. They developed and every signed guys, and they
hired good coaches, not just the head coach, a guy
who own the staff as well.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Speaking of dout evaluation, speaking with Steve Weis here from
the NFL network, Uh not, you mentioned let's let's we
we let's I'm not going to bury the lead here,
Mike McDonald when the whole league, Steve Weisch, there's Ziggan.
They want the next Sean mcvayh Okay, we got Kevin O'Connell,
we got Zach Taylor, we got Kevin Stefanski, We've got

(08:19):
At one point, Mike McDaniel was a hot commodity. Matt Lafleur. Well,
John Schneider goes, you know what I'm gonna zag, I'm
gonna go defense, And that right now looks like that
was one of the best decisions that we've seen here since.
Maybe they hired a guy by the name of Pete Carroll. Maybe,
I mean, right now, the way he's going, who knows

(08:40):
how great Mike McDonald could be. But when you look
at Mike McDonald, what's the thing that really impresses you
the most about him and what he brings to the table.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Well, I mean, besides you to be a brilliant guy.
You know, he's super smart, he's he is a leader. Right,
and even when you talk about okay, this this head
coach is a quarterback whisper or whatnot. The guys who
sustain also work well the general manager. They know how
to develop talent and they know how to lead. Right there,
there's a difference because when you become a head coach,

(09:12):
you know, you may call players, you are still not
as involved as you were when you are coordinated. You
have a million other things on your plate. So you've
got to delegate. Hire good coaches, coach them up the
way you want them coached. But you've got to make
you know, one thing that you want to say about
Sean McCay because he can walk into a defensive meeting
room and explain to every individual or individual purpose, their position, group, purpose,

(09:36):
their side of the ball, purpose, their team purpose and everybody.
There's no breakdown of communication. Everybody gets it. They know
where they stand and how things are supposed to work.
That's what a guy like Mike, that's you know Mike
McDonald does, right. Those are those are your good coaches.
That's why a Mike Rabel can go to New England
and do what he has done and in just a year. Right,

(09:57):
those those are the guys. You know Jim harm Law
down with the Chargers. He can come in everywhere he
goes and right away he generates, you know, success like
those are your good coaches. They're your leaders of men
who treat men like men until they're given reason not too.
And that's something you hear consistently when you talk to

(10:17):
people in the NFL about successful head coaches.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
It's funny bring that up. A guy who comes on
right after me, he's been here for twenty years, Ian Furness.
And Ian had Jaron Reid on his show during voluntary OTAs,
and I thought Ian asked him such a pointing question,
and it was like, you've been in the league now
for over a decade, why are you here right now?
And he just said, we believe he didn't have to

(10:41):
be there voluntary OTA. A guy who's over a decade,
Steve Weisch and that to me, and then I said, uh, oh,
something's going on at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center and
Rent and that they are all in with Mike McDonald.
You got a veteran guy who could be doing something
a lot better. As Charles Barkley and Shaq and Kenny

(11:04):
said one two three can kun right. He could be
down there right now and some of those beautiful women
in the world. He's there with all the undrafted free agents.
And that to me, right there, like now that you
look back in retrospects, Steve, that to me is why
this team is where they are and just ascending. And

(11:25):
really there is no glass ceiling when I look at
the Seattle Seahawks under Mike McDonald.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Well, I mean a story like that just conveys to
me that, you know, this is somebody who loves playing football,
you know, and there are different players who are motivated
by different ways. When you've got you know, football lovers,
the guys who if their team has a losing record
in the back half of the season, are still showing
up and practicing hard and things like that. They're in
the off season when they don't have to be going hard.
I mean, sure, they may have financial tenders in their contract,

(11:54):
but at the same time, these are guys who want
to be here on their teammates. They love the sport.
You know. One of the best things that was ever
said to me is like, you know, the best way
to punish the players to not have them play. It's
not a money thing because they realize they've only got
seventeen of these every year like that, that's value. You know,
They've got seventeen days to show themselves in front of

(12:16):
sixty eight thousand people plus millions on TV, and those
who love it understand that. And that's kind of with
your story, which you just told me. Says Okay, they
probably have a team full of guys who understand that
they're on a finite career line. In the NFL. They
get seventeen times a year to exercise that, but they
have an off season to really make themselves be worthy

(12:40):
of having, you know, the ability to do what they do.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
You know, Tom Brady, Steve Weisch. Tom Brady said one
time he was asked, I don't know, it was probably
after his fourth Super Bowl, fifth, who knows, you know whatever,
but he was still in New England and they asked him,
They said, why don't you ever want to come out
of the game. Your team's up by forty points. And
it's the way he got the job and he never
forgot it, Steve. Before mo Lewis put that hit Andrew

(13:07):
Bledsoe in September of two thousand and one, he said,
because I never want my employer or any team out
there to see that someone can do my job better
than me, and that to me.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Smoking with that, I don't know if Jayden and Daniels
are saying that right.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Now, Yeah, right, yeah, right, that's true. Yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Look, think about.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
What we do for a living, right right, right.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Let someone else sit in your chair.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Never no, no, I mean it's happening like yeah, absolutely.
And and Steve, here's the thing about it, man, You
know as well as I do. Every day we get
a chance to you do what you do, I do
what I do. It's not a it's it's not a birthright,
it's a it's a privilege to do what we do.

(13:56):
And it's a privilege for these guys and to play
on that level and play a kid's game and get
paid ridiculous money to do so. And I think it's
that mentality, man, that Tom Brady always took being one
ninety nine in the seventh round behind Spurgeon Winn and
Giovanni Carmazzi, that he always carried that chip on his shoulders.

(14:18):
He never forgot that guy. He always carried it. And
it's something we see, all right. So we've talked, we've
sung the praise of the Seahawks. So here's a double
ed short number one run defense in the NFL, the
teams are only averaging three and a half yards per carry. Conversely,
rushing offense second worse than the NFL, only three point

(14:40):
seven yards per carry. Why can't this team get this
running game going the way it should be when you
have a guy like Kenny Walker and his backfield mate
Zach sharbinet.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
Well, I mean it's clearly you know, look a lot
of it should be working better with the way there
passing the ball right when you you know, you throw
the ball, well you back it. Yeah, So it could
be something. I don't have the stats in front of me.
They might not have a ton of rushing attempts because
they're throwing the ball well, they're playing with I just
I just don't know, but it is something. When the
weather changes, you know, you start to see teams that

(15:14):
can run the ball better or have good screen games.
They tend to be more effective in bad weather. In
the postseason. That's why you see the Chiefs and teams
like that. They start to really get better running the
ball late in the season. So you know, all is
not lost. But that's just something where they've got to
work out. Also part of it, I mean, they're they're
switching to the scheme. Right there's the zone this outside
zone run scheme inside jn't run scheme. That's that's not

(15:37):
the easiest thing to adapt to right away. Right You're
asking your offensive lineman to not necessily block a man,
but to block a spot. And it only works and
you play on a thread. But once they get there,
then it's almost unstoppable. I mean, then you've got the Niners,
and then you've got that type of run game where
you know everyone feels comfortable because it's a it's a

(15:59):
functionality of offensive line and ball carrier together, not just
offensive line. So that's probably part of it as well.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
That's a great point. And you know, not to get
ahead of ourselves because we saw in this league what happened,
and everybody can be humbled at any moment, right, I
mean you saw Monday night. You know, people over all
that Rams game in two weeks. No, no, no, no, no, no.
The Cardinals are legit, man. You look at what they
I mean, they're having a tough year, but you overlooked
that team and now all of a sudden. Now they

(16:29):
got something going with Jakobe Brissett and you know Kalaiis Campbell.
I went to school with them at Miami. I feel
like an old guy. He's still in the league twenty
years later. He had two sacks on Monday Night on
Dak Prescott and so you can't overlook them. But then
the big one coming up down at Sofi Stadium the
following Sunday, Seahawks Rams, and that to me will be Wow,

(16:52):
that's gonna be the game of the week and we'll see.
But hey, and then the Rams, though, Steve, they got
a big one on Sunday. They got the forty nine ers.
So this league is filled with tough games.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Oh absolutely, I mean that, that's every week. That's why
we watch every week. It's a holiday every Sunday. And
the fact that you've got you know, the Rams at
the Niners. The Niners came down here on a Thursday
night after having a slew of injuries. Mac Jones, you know,
comes in. They just signed Kendrick Bourne, and those two
connect one hundred and eighty four yards passing, and they
upset the Rams. They forced a couple of takeaways and

(17:28):
they upset them so again, this is huge for a
lot of reasons. If the Niners suit the Rams, They've
got tie breakers for any type of potential home field
or win in the division. So I mean, this is
why the NFC West right now is arguably, along with
the AFC West, the toughest division in the NFL. But
I'll tell you this too. I hate to do this,
but I got to get into the studio and.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
All right, man, hey, we appreciate it. I was just
gonna let you go anyway. I will be watching you
on studio. Thanks, Steve. Weis appreciate you the time. Always.
Man's stay here on MJ in the midday. Yeah. Man,
that's the league that every game. And I like what

(18:09):
he said there, kid, every Sunday's a holiday during football season.
I love that. I feel the same way during a
Saturday during football season for college football as well. One
thing before we come back for the what do you say?
Text of the day at four nine four five one.
The NBA and Congressional Committee met today amid the gambling probes.

(18:33):
Adam Silver was not there. It's considered an informal sit
down for members of the House Committee and it's going
to include conversations about the league's partnerships with sports books
and measures to prevent illegal use of non public information.
Silver was not expected to be there, and he was
not there. Damon Jones will be arraigned at two pm

(18:57):
today in Brooklyn, so that already had. So that's done.
And Billip's arraignment is scheduled for the week of Thanksgiving.
Oh that's fun. And then Terry Rozier is going to
be indicted in federal court in Brooklyn on December eighth.
So this NBA story's not going away. It's just getting started,

(19:17):
all right. Coming up next? What do you say? Text
of the day, Kid and I brought to you by
Boresaid Committed to craft since nineteen oh five. That is
next from the R and R Foundation Specialist broadcast studio.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Now back Damn j in the midday.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
On your home for the Huskies Krekin and the twelfth
Man Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM. All right,
just some breaking news from Adam Schefter. Cardinals are placing
Kyler Murray on ir dude his foot injury. He's going
to be out a minimum of four games, and bad
news for the Texans. Tamiko Ryan said, quarterback CJ. Shroud

(19:56):
will be out this week versus Jacksonville. That's a wow, man.
That was a tough injury against Denver, and I think
they were going to win that game. I had them
winning that game. It went under. I got that part right,
but they didn't get the cover because CJ. Stroud went out.
I think they were gonna win that game, all right?
Four nine, four or five one. If you want to
hear your text read in real live time. Charles Davis

(20:19):
and Steve Wish on the same show. So great in
all caps, exclamation point, thank you. That's why we do
it for you.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
MJ. Don't worry from listening to you yesterday and already
this morning, you're forgetting one major thing.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Seatawk.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
John Schneider GM. He will always trade back and get
those picks. Don't you worry about a thing.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
I like it off that one. This is a similar
one to just coming off that one. John Schneider seems
that he hits more than missus. He's a mastermind that
continues to teach the rest of the NFL how to
do it. In John Schneider, let me do that again.
In John Schneider, we must trust and I do I've

(21:09):
done it from the outside looking in for fifteen years,
and now I get to do it from the inside
looking out. And I always said, when I was in Carolina,
instead of Marty Hernie, imagine if we had John Schneider
when I was in Atlanta instead of Thomas de Mitchroff.
Imagine if the Falcons had John Schneider when I was
in New England and they were going on their way

(21:31):
to win their sixth Super Bowl. And then a year later,
Bill Belichick drafted Nikhil Harry over DK Metcalf, Deebo, Samuel,
Terry McLaurin. I said, imagine if the Patriots had John Schneider. Well,
now I don't have to say that anymore because I'm
here and the Seahawks have John Schneider.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Maybe we shouldn't worry too much. MJ. The college draft
for twenty twenty six seems a little look it seems
a little weak. It is look into it.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
It is very especially at the quarterback position when you're
talking about Fernando Mendoza, Dante Moore, Leonora Sellers, only because
like two of these guys are even having good years.
And I don't even know if you consider Dante more.
I mean, their best win is at a garbage Penn

(22:19):
State program who fired their coach two weeks later when
they lost at home in the Northwestern So it's very
weak defensively. Rubin Bain, you know, I know a thing
or two about him. He could be him. He could
be an Aaron Donald type in the league. You're looking
at Caleb Downs Ohio State, who saw him play against

(22:43):
the Huskies in the fourth week of the season. But
it is a week draft. There's no doubt there is.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Mj What are your thoughts on the Seahawks linebacking corps
without Ernest Jones. You're looking at Drake Thomas and Tyrese Knight.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Not much. I don't know. It's it's okay, it's mad.
It's not bad, it's not great. It just is. But
if they're putting a position to succeed Aiden Dirte's you know,
defense under Mike McDonald, we all know it's really Mike McDonald.
Get I'm gonna laugh. I'm sorry, I just got distracted.

(23:20):
Come on him, j tell us what channel the newswoman
that you like has a toolbag boyfriend. No, I can't
do that.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
Someone brought that up again a week later.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Hey, hey, listen, if you ever see me somewhere and
you and you turn your phone off, I will tell you,
but I can't do it where there's electronic communication. Okay,
I will tell you, but there is one. And believe
you me. It is a mismatch from hell. It is
like Alabama and uh Presbyterian. I made It's bad, I

(23:59):
will say.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
MJ asked a staff member and they didn't agree. They
thought it was a decent match.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
So yeah, yeah, well that staff member maybe need to
get their site checked, their vision checked.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Legend of Zoom was stolen from you dub believe.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
It was Legion of Zoom because.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Of Zoom believe it was a twenty sixteen team that
went by that.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Yeah, and they went to the playoffs that year. So okay,
I don't know if it was Legend or Legion, though yeah, yeah,
I would imagine they would go Legion. Uh shaheed forty
plus yards this week, as MJ says, better now thank
me later.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
All right, we'll see maybe more.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Maybe more.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Let's see.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
The segment is good, but let's be honest. When we
were I think it was the start of the show.
Sign Josh Naylor Bradford needs work. But let's sign Josh Naylor.
Legion of Zoom. Nah sign Josh Naylor. I think that's
something that m's are going to try to get done.
But I don't know how much money you can throw
at a guy that doesn't want to be here, not

(25:09):
saying that he doesn't want to be here, right, how
much money is it worth for him to stay? He's
already said it's goodbye to Cal Rawley.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
I know that's the part that really, Hey man, I
always be rooting for you. That's that's indicating Wow, Wow,
that's not good. That's not good. All right, MJ and
CK have the best. Guess keep up the good work, boys. Hey,
we appreciate you noticing. Thanks for listening.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
There's been eight to ten years of valleys regarding John
Schneider's drafts. He can't just pick draft that worked, with
all due respect, that's true, but he's also I think
he's had really good drafts and as MJ pointed out
that twenty twenty one draft class was a miss. He
only had three picks and missed on all three. Trey Brown, though,
I'll give him, Trey Brown was solid, and then he

(25:55):
got banged up, and now I think he's with the Niners.
But nonetheless John I think Johnson has definitely had a
lot more better drafts. I mean, there's a reason why
you got an extension. He's doing pretty good out there.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
Yeah. Hey, Ryan, I'm not going to read your text,
but I know you're listening right now because you just
texted in. I appreciate you me living, you letting me
live rent free in your head. Thank you, Ryan, Thanks
for listening, Ryan, thanks for listening. All right, let's see here.
When was the last time to see Hawks made a
Super Bowl? Won a playoff? John Schneider genius debatable? Fair enough,

(26:29):
it's been a minute. It's been a minute. I got it,
I got it. It's been a minute. But let's worry
about the now and not the past, because we're going
to do that. You know, the Mariners, we all when
was the last time they won? When was the last
time they you know, went to the NLCS? Well, yeah,
it was twenty four years ago up until October last month.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Cracking much best starting franchise history. Go cracking tonight, baby. Yes,
I'm actually MJ will be rapping with Mike Benton tomorrow thirty.
So yeah, MJ's gonna definitely get more insight on how
they're playing so well, because yeah, they're they're playing some
good hockey on that ice.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
They are, and they get to Sharks tonight, they're six
two and four, and the one thing or early in
the season, we're only twelve games in, so we're not
gonna go too crazy just yet. But you can just
see in the limited sample size that we have not
even a fifth through the season, you can just see

(27:29):
the effect of Laine Lambert and the culture that he's
instilled there and I and that to me is the
most important thing. These guys are playing, and to me
never more evident. They were trailing the Canadians by three
nothing with ten and a half minutes left a week
or two ago at home. I don't know how they
did it. They pulled that out of their asses. They
sent that thing overtime. Yeah, they lost, but they picked

(27:52):
up a point last year, the year before, the year
before that, under Biosma or Hackstall, they weren't going overtime
bing it in. There's no way that's the difference with
Laine Lambert. I think they got a coach and I
can tell you right now they're playing They're playing great
under him. All right, nobody doing a better job than

(28:14):
you and kid, keep up the great work. We appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Isn't having a fifth rounder start for you his rookie
season and indictment of all your talent evaluation You didn't
have anyone in house that could beat out a fifth
round pick.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
No, but how about the fact that you just hit
on a fifth round pick. I'll look at the glass,
I'll look at Hey. The guy's good enough to start.
He obviously unseated a guy who was a veteran that
got to guarantee three million dollars an MVS. So apparently,
I mean they had mvs, but their fifth round pick
was better. That's it. So I'm not gonna knock. I'm

(28:50):
not gonna knock that. By the way, Hey, yeah, for
all the people saying stuff about Ryan, I know, listen,
I hey, for all of you that what you're saying
about Ryan, I can't read it on the I agree
with you. Yes, he is all what and especially you
from the ending in one nine, he is definitely that.
He is definitely that. Yes, he is definitely that. I'll

(29:13):
leave it at that.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Last one from me. Oh, actually, there's your turn. Name
jam My Bet no, you go, and I'll do one
end it. Last one for me is please give me
your opinion on Cam Newton because you said you had
covered his season. I've always thought he was a cry baby.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
I didn't like Cam Newton, but I will give him credit.
He achieved more than I ever thought he would. He
became an MVP, they went to a Super Bowl. I
think the play to me, that defines if there's one
play that I will always look at Cam Newton. And
I know he stays awake at night, kid, I'll never
forget it. The I'm getting up right now today because

(29:53):
I'm so demonstrative about this. I'm literally standing up like
Pat McAfee right now. By five, there's two and a
half minutes to go in the Super Bowl. It's a
fumble and he's right there and all he has to
do is fall on the ball and he lets de
Marcus where he and afterwards goes my leg toward it,

(30:20):
or he said some lame ass excuse. I'm like, that
was the Super Bowl literally on the line. You had
a chance to fall on the ball, keep the drive alive.
You could have won that game and change the course
of your career, and you didn't. Fall on the ball,
and that to me. After that, guess where's career went.
It went from the George Jefferson, We're moving on up

(30:44):
to the east side penthouse all the way to the outhouse.
And he was never the same after that. Ever, his
career was done. After that, I know he lasted a
few more years. He ended up playing for Belichick in
New England. All that stuff and non, no, no, that
MVP Cam Newton was done. All right, last one. Let
me get this. Let's see here. I gotta read this one.

(31:05):
In the beginning, I really did not like MJ, but
I have fallen for him. You're my guy, MJ. Keep
rocking it. And Chris, somehow MJ is even elevating your
game and vice versa. I don't know, but you guys
are a great team.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
By the way, thank you very much. And we agree.
And I love working with Kid and he does make
the show great. He makes it better. We work great
together and it's fun to go to work every day. Kid,
a guy that goes with his alma mater and Ian
Furness's alma mater, Washington State, was in here yesterday. A
young kid named Jack. Great kid. He want you know

(31:40):
he's trying to be a play by play and I'm
you know, he's asking me advice and stuff, and he
said something was the biggest compliment to me, and he
said it to our boss, Purple Sheet. He goes, it's criminal,
it's criminal and annoying. How much you love your job?
And I said, thank you, Jack, thank you. It is
a privilege. And I didn't always. I would always sometimes

(32:00):
there was times in my career along the way that
I was like, uh uh, you know, I you know,
you take things for granted, and then when.

Speaker 5 (32:09):
It's taken away from you, you realize how much that
every day, every every hour, every segment, every minute, every
second that you're on the air is a blessing.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
It's a privilege and not a birthright. And believe you me,
it can all be taken away, just like that snap
of a finger. So Jack, you do what you do, kid,
and I will do. We're gonna keep doing what we're
gonna do. We're gonna work hard, we're gonna kick ass,
take names, and show up every day loving life. And
I'll go by the phrase that someone once told me,
if you love what you do, you'll never work a

(32:42):
day in your life. So That's why I could never
do something else. I could never do anything else. Literally,
if I hit the powerball tomorrow, I would still come
in every day, but I would be taking Kid to
El Gaucho after the show. That'd be the difference. But
I would still come into work every day because I
there's only so many houses you can buy, there's only

(33:03):
so many cars you can buy, There's only so many
vacations you can take. I would still want to do
this every day. That's how much I love being on
the air. That's how much I love being in Kjar
here in Seattle, best station, best everything I've ever worked at,
by far and away. My only regret, as I wish
I'd gotten here sooner. But it wasn't for lack of trying.
I will tell you that it wasn't for lack of trying.

(33:24):
I was trying to get here when Kevin Shocky was here.
I was trying to get here before Kevin Shocky was
even here. So I finally got in the door, and
I'm here, and I'm grateful and thank you. I'm an
acquired taste like Sam Adams beer. You might like me,
you might not. I just asked for you to listen
all right, Ian for neesk coming up next. All right,

(33:51):
Uh yeah, yeah, if you hit the power ball, you
still work. Okay, you're f and nuts brother, Well, Keith,
it's true. I mean, here's the thing, man, there's only
so many things that you can do. You would get
bored as hell. I'm sorry. You'd have to do something
and have some sense of self purpose.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
What was a question?

Speaker 1 (34:09):
I just said that if I hit the power ball,
I would still want to work every day, but there'd
be some provisions. In other words, I want to probably
do a lot of it from home. I still want
to do a show. I still want to work. I
still want to do so I can't wake up every day.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Ian.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
How many vacations can you take? How many cars can
you buy? How many European trips can you go on?

Speaker 6 (34:29):
Well, as someone that's older and knows retirements on the horizon,
i'd be done tomorrow. Well you and the missus what
I mean, But that's you, And then i'd be And
then I would like, say, what's it gonna take to
get a couple of grandkids from my kids? So we
could have something else that would be That would be
the goal, And I play golf Okay, I would be
in Arizona right now, I'm looking outside as the rain

(34:49):
comes across the windows. I would be in Arizona as
a member of a golf course.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
I'm probably the best one. You got, the same club
that has Alice Cooper. He's a big I.

Speaker 6 (35:00):
Would be at one that I could that they wouldn't
frown upon me at twelve fifty two if I had
a cocktail in my hand after a quick eighteen in
the morning.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
And then since the Phoenix opened, the rowdy one. Phoenix
opens a rowdy one. That's the one where it gets
a little you know.

Speaker 6 (35:13):
I had we when the Seahawks played in the Super
Bowl down there to what twenty fourteen I guess was
January twenty fourth or February twenty fourteen. That was the
same weekend, right, and we were down there for that
I think fifteen, right, twenty fifteen. Yeah, Yeah, I did
not go. I wanted no part of that. I don't
Watching a golf TRM in person is not a ton
of fun.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
You know.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
I went to three Masters, but that was different. But
you're that's a different deal. That's a different that's a
different deal. That's that's a new but like, you're not wrong,
because then what do we have in Charlotte that I
did it from? Uh Quail hollow right? We had every
year it's the same something bang, something open.

Speaker 6 (35:50):
I don't remember. But I love the food. But yeah,
like the Boying Classics cool if you're in a suite
on the eighteenth, you know. Yeah, And I don't know
why Purple Sheet has us doing the show up above
the eighteenth Green I'd like to like, I think we
need to be in a sweet ending. I need to
mention that to him because well, because you just get
that because you just talked about the food, I'm like,

(36:10):
wait a second, Yeah, that's what I want, food and drinks.
Watching those guys come up. He I love golf. I
love watching these guys play. When we had the US
Open here, it was awesome. But like, chamber is not
a great place to walk around and watch it because
it's it's just hard to walk around this. It's kind
of like The Masters is about. It's a handful of
holes where you can't have you have no spectators on it.
Oh god, right, so I mean it's yeah, but no
playing golf, powerball shit, buddy, Yeah, you're gone, You're done.

(36:33):
You'd be like, where's the end today?

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Yeah? Here right? Yeah, I'm probably pull an Edger and
James Kid would love this. I'd probably uh not that
I would do this, but I don't think a lot
of people know this. And but it's public information, so
I'm not saying anything out of school. He owns a
strip club. He owns a strip club's legal? Well, I know,
but it's just you know, yeah, hey, listen, man, I.

Speaker 6 (36:56):
Think there's things that are tabooed now. I think there's
things taboo and I I'm not a big I've never
been on strip clubs or whatever. I mean, but you know,
like strip clubs and pot shops, I mean they're legal.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
What the hell that's true? I said something to Steve
Weisch at the beginning of the hour your interview with
Jaron Reid at Voluntary Ota. You asked a great question,
like why are you here? What are you doing here?
You're in your eleven year, you don't need to be here.
He's like, I want to be here, and I'm I'm
all in and so are and it's like, now you
see why this team is six and two. They're going

(37:27):
for it. They're all in. They're on a ascension. Maybe Ian,
this is twenty twelve. I don't know the start of something.

Speaker 6 (37:36):
Yeah, we you know, it's so funny you bring that up.
We've mentioned I can't tell you many times I've said
twenty twelve since then, like you know, different years. The difference,
I guess is is that when we said it was
twenty twelve before, it was still Pete, right, And this
is Mike. This is a different it's a different thing.
And the and when I asked hearing that and I
think we're seeing it now. It's the buy in, the

(38:00):
buy into what he's doing. And they had they had
to change the roster. They had to get rid of
the quarterback. They had to because the quarterback wasn't a
buy in guy. And you know, you just look at
the body lane is. I don't know what changed with
Gino because the body language from the first year he
was a starter, when they led him to the playoffs

(38:21):
to the last couple of years. It just something changed
with him and the buy in. What if the buyan's
not coming from the quarterback, Well, I mean that's what
Mike was down twenty twelve was there was a buy
and you know why, it was Russ's first year. Yeah,
and Russ played with a chip on his shoulder. Russ
balled out like nobody's business. He won games for them.

(38:41):
Everyone says it was all and same thing with twenty thirteen.
It's like, oh, it was all the defense. No, No,
Russ won games for them. He did, make no mistake.
He won gat The Chicago game, for example, on twenty
twelve was massive.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
That was all Russ. Defense.

Speaker 6 (38:53):
Gave up two scores late and Russ just rallied their ass.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
It's awesome.

Speaker 6 (38:58):
But and Sam Darnold, I would say I like the
twenty twelve because of that. Darneld equals Russ, even though
Russ was a rookie.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Mike Congran on with You.

Speaker 6 (39:06):
Today, Congers On with Us Today, coming up at two,
I'll ask him about bying. It's a good quick topic
to talk about. And then Suer Mandel college football. Is
there a path from Miami? Mark, We'll find out.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
I'll ask him. Are you gonna ask him?

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Hell?

Speaker 6 (39:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (39:18):
What time?

Speaker 1 (39:20):
Oh dude? That okay? I will all right, I got
I'll be listening. I'll be listening because now I'm like,
now I'm like all like, you know, it is what
it is? Kid, great job, Steve Weis, thank you, saying
to Charles Davis, Mike Dugar will be on tomorrow, and

(39:40):
mister no, Mike, Mike Dugar will be on tomorrow. It'll
be on tomorrow with us right here on mj end
of the midday
