Your thoughts on how bad of a look this is
for the NBA. And oh, by the way, Adam Silver
has been subpoenaed by Congress to go on Capitol Hill
in front of that firing squad.

So how bad of a look is this for.

The NBA and what can they do to mitigate this
damage which looks like it's only just begun.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
It's really bad. It's not good for the NBA at all.
I think I think the player thing ma Terry Rozier
with you know, the unders leaving the game, I think
that's easily fixed because the sports books will catch that.
The one I really caught my eye out of this
is the Chauncey billups side of it, because a head
coach just has access to so much information that is

so vital like that people could use to jump ahead
of the market to gain edges, and the coaches really
doesn't have to do too much like he can. He's
just sharing what he knows is going to happen. I
think I think my biggest takeaway from this scandal was
that it was concerning me. You know, they're talking about
the integrity of the game and with Chouncey build ups
and how that might be affected. The integrity of the
game was like gone with the fact that they were tanking,

Like that's what created the betting edge that Chauncey was sharing.
So the fact that like teams tank in the league,
it's kind of acceptable to tank. Like he wasn't doing
anything out of the ordinary. He was just letting everyone
know heate, we're tanking, and like all the other coaches
or anyone else in the organization, you wouldn't be able
to pick up like any like poor substitution powers or
like notice that anything was different with what he was

doing because he was technically just following what the organization
wanted him to do, which is lose the game. So
I feel like that side of it is really bad
for the league because it's not even necessarily the gambling
side that room the integrity of the game. It's the tanking,
which then gave the edge to the betters that he
could share.

So yeah, but they were playing it actually yeah, but
they were playing a garbage bulls team and he told
the Oh yeah, he told his constituents or whatever you
want to call them. His accomplish is that he was
sitting their.

So it's one thing that tank and then you tell me, hey,
we're and the Bulls come out and win by twenty
eight points. I mean and in a garbage Bulls team
at that.

Yeah, yeah, I think that's the problem. Was like, so
he fits those guys or like even like you know
in sports saying you're trying to project like minutes for
a game, Like even if you just drop a starter's
match from thirty five to thirty, that's creates an edge
that sports bears would be interested in. So the fact
that like he could do all that and nobody's really
questioning that he's doing it because probably the whole coaching
staff was on board with the tanking, and then he's

sharing that. I feel like that's a bad I feel
like the one thing the NBA needs to fix. I mean,
we all know the load management. We all hate it.
The injury report stuff and how it's being reported and
when it's reported. That's a huge issue for the league
because you think of like I'll just use an example
from Halloween. So like Jannis was set to play the
Bucks were two point under dog. He two hours before

the game, like no prior knowledge of it anything with
an injury. They say he's sitting. Well, now the spread
moves to like nine, he's like worth like seven points.
If you had that information before, yeah, you're in a.

Great Oh it's inside trading. It's inside trading, right, Yeah, yeah.

It's it's not even the it's it's just it's also
when it's being reported. So I feel like the league
is trying to focus on stopping load management. Honestly, their
best solution might be, like you can sit the guys,
but you got to let us know, like three or
four days ahead of time before people buy tickets, or
so we can let people know before these lines get posted,
like let us know when the superstars are sitting, because
two hours before the game, if someone had that information,

that's huge information. And you know, a head coach obviously
knows like Giannis is in playing, and I think they
know that going into it. So I feel like that's
really something they have to clean up.

I didn't get it that night and get to watch
the game because I didn't get defet and then I
find out after the game he didn't play because of
a situation with his significant other, his girlfriend. Well, I'm like, WTF, like,
give me my money back like that. That's bs okay.
It was Friday, March seventh.

No, I couldn't been it because he actually did play
that game. It was one game he did not play.
I got the ticket. I got screwed, and I will
never and I'm gonna next time I see Carl Anthony Towns,
I'm gonna hand him the ticket and say thanks for
costing me a grand because he screwed me if I
know he was playing that night, John, I'm not placing
one thousand dollars on the Knicks period.

Yeah, that's and that's that's what I'm saying. That's where
the issue is. It's when these injuries are being reported.
It's when like you're getting like an hour before the game,
you're like, oh, all of a sudden, downgrade to questionable
and all of a sudden, this guy's out, and like
there was no indication, Like they're on the second night
of back to back, they played the night before, you
watch the game, there's no injury, right, So it's just
all it's when it's being reported, and like if you're
going to be tied to legal sports thing, I feel

like that's something they really need to clean up. Like
you would never see the NFL where it's like a
guy practices all week and then they're like, oh Sunday,
Oh actually the quarterback sitting out. That would dramatically change
the line. So it's they really need to figure out
the injury report stuff. I know this has been brought
up Tad and Silver and he was talking about it.
He was also talking about I saw he was talking
about like the player props. We you're talking about Terro's year. Yeah,

maybe a limiting for like the bench players and keeping
it to the starters. I do fear that the easy
solution is to get rid of unders and make it
a one way market, and that would not be good
for betters all. But I can see where that's coming
from with Yonders. But we don't want that at all
because you don't want the sports to steal and make
it a one way market. So I feel like, keep
into the starters. I'm okay with that. I don't think

there's I don't really have an issue with that. But yeah,
there's a lot for the NBA to look at and
clean up with the gambling scandal.

would tell you last week on my gambling show, picking
the locks, that I gave out the Bijon Robinson under
sixty one and a half rushing yards against the Patriots
and his third straight game he finished with under forty
three rushing yards. So like, yeah, you got to be able.

You can't just do a one way market like we're
only going to do over as well. No, that sucks.
I mean that, you know, only the only sport and
I get it, But like, here's my thing. How come
we don't see load management in baseball? How come we
don't see load management in hockey? Now? NFL is different
because there's only seventeen games and you play once a
week depending on whether or not you have a short

week on a Thursday night game like tonight between the Raids,
Raiders and Broncos. But why don't we see load management
in the NHL Baseball and in those sports. We don't
see it there, but we see it in the NBA.

Why is that?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah? And then they can't get rid of it, and
they can't. They haven't. They tried to adjust the rules
and they haven't been able to figure it out. The
thing that annoys me the most is that you'll get
like say like thunder calves and it's like, well the
Thunder a load managing, but the calves aren't. And then
the next and like it blows up like one game
because one side has starters, one doesn't, and then you
just ruin all these good matchups. Like you go back
to watch like some previous games or you're like see it,

like to learn something like I can't even learn anything
from this because none of the starters are playing. For
you know, we have ten games and five of them
have starters on one side aren't even playing. So the
load management thing. Then they just I remember reading report
this is a couple of years ago when they were
talking about how they could get rid of it, and
they said, just like the doctors and the sports science,
and they've just proven that the eight to two games

is too much, and how the schedule breakdowns with the
back to back and if they get to if they
do play all those games and they all those nats
and it gets the playoffs, they're gonna be in. They
have problem. So it's a tough, tough scenario for the
NBA because you just signed massive TV contract. You can't
be like, oh, we're dropping down to right, sixty games,
this works right, So they have a big problem. I honestly,

it's going to be really hard for them to solve it.
I feel like the easiest thing is just cleaning up
how the injury reports are handled, like just let everyone
know who's playing and not playing ahead of time, way
ahead of time.

They have to no question and again, and I'm not
sure I'm the only gambler who's ever been screwed on
a player that they assumed was playing and did not play.
I'm not the only one. I mean, it's it happens
a lot. But I never forget that night and I
was feeling good. I felt like, hey man, I'm in
a good spot. And then all of a sudden, you know,
there we go and and it just basically killed me

and I and I was like, well there goes that
and I will never do that again, and and it
just sucks. What do you think in terms of I
found that you talk about John where Terry Rosier, you know,
let's got two and a half years ago he tells
you know, his associates or whatever that, Yeah, bet all
the unders on me. They go in place thirty bets

on a on a random you know, Terry Rosie or
under in March, all thirty unders hit, all thirty cover.
And it was like, could you guys have been less obvious?
I mean, if you're gonna rob a bank, are you
gonna leave your cell phone there? Are you gonna leave

your driver's license there? No, you're not. I mean these
guys probably could have been a little bit more. And
all thirty bets covered. I laughed my ass off when
I heard that.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, I was also laughing A clear understand that's a
clear understanding of like you see the player props on
the board and they look the same as a spread bet,
but they're they are not the same markets at all.
Like you're talking limits of maybe a couple hundred for
player props. So when you open an account or you
go into account, you're also trying to place ten thousand
on Terio Rozier. Under that's gonna get flagged pretty hard,

especially if you're an account that doesn't normally even bet
maybe one hundred dollars, or you just opened it and
you're coming in. Obviously they get all that data of
like the flood of money coming in, so on a
market where it's like probably like a couple hundred max,
it's going to be sent to the traders and once
the traders see it, they're like ten thousand tiro Rozier, like,
let's keep an eye on this. That's where I think
the builds thing is also more complex because he could

affect spread markets and that's where that's where you can
really get money down right, And that's by adjusting minutes
for players and like sharing who's in and who's out,
so the terriers your stuff. I feel like that gets
cleaned up easily by the NBA with the player props.
I feel like that's pretty straightforward them. It's the coach
angle of it to me is like that's way over
the top.

Yeah, and you mentioned about Terry Rozier and those all
those player props. But I mean, do you notice, though, too, John,
that like, even though sports gambling has been around and
there's been you know, isolated incidents in college it's about
point shaving with Boston College basketball and Arizona State basketball

way back in the day. But do you notice that
all of this Terry Rozier, Damon Jones, Chauncey Billups, this
has all happened after the NBA, Major League Baseball, the NFL,
and the NHL, OH FanDuel Official Sportsbook of the NBA,

None of this happened prior to these leagues getting in

You do these oh these seminars, don't bet. How can
you say don't bet when you go out to center
court at Madison Square Garden and you see FanDuel Official
Sportsbook the NBA. I mean, like you can tell someone
not to do something over and over and over again.

But I mean, guys are competitive and.

They like to gamble So how much do you think
now that that has taken a huge part about these
leagues partnering with these sportsbook that that is now all
happening in the wake of that.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah, I think I think it's tough for the players
to like go on the court and see, like you said,
a Stan duel ad and you're you're thinking yourself, well,
everyone's making money off me, could I make money off me?

And like it?

Speaker 3 (12:32):
You know, if I just leave the game with an injury,
that's a no big deal. Nobody will even notice. Like
I didn't do anything. It's not like I'm missing shots
or like I'm not playing like I did. I just
left the game, right, So that's that's where you're seeing
with Terry Rozier and John say Port, they took the
under route. Yeah, like I went back, actually the John
say Porter went I went back and watched that game
with I think he had I want to. I don't
know for sure. I think it's under one and a

half assists. And then he got one assist and then
that was kind of when he was like kind of
looking to come on the game because you're like one
more assists, like you could throw a past anyone want
to if they just pull it and make it like
that's an assist, right, so if you don't even have
to make a spectacular pass. You could see he was
kind of panting and like he wanted out of the game.
I think they I don't think they realized like the
checks and balances that would be in place by a
sportsbook to catch, and I think they just thought it

would be way easier than it was. And now, I mean,
as they make an example of a couple of these
players that Terry was your thing, but like it was
what he was like for two hundred thousand, like his salaries,
twenty six moves. Now, like what are you doing? I know,
it's just insane, It's just insane. And then and then
the funny part is you see today the breakup of
ESPN BET, and then you're like, oh, maybe they'll move away,

like with this game in scale, maybe they'll stay a wall.

ESPN BET, ESPN and BET and Penn National Gaming broke up?
So they're in ESPM BET is done December first wait.

then you're like ESPN and maybe wants to move away
from the gambling space after what happened here with NBA scandal, right,

and then literally an hour hour later, they signed another
deal with another sportsbook, so for more money. So it's
just a money thing.

Penn's not having good luck in the gambling space. They
already had a they already a losing venture with Barstool
now they had a losing partnership with it, and then
they gave Barstool after buying fifty one percent of the company.
Then they sell it back for a dollar to Dave Portnoy.
Then they then they get partnered up with ESPN. Now

that dissolved. What's up with Pen Gaming? Who's running that company?
Is it the president's CEO of Cracker Barrel?

I think I think they. I think I saw the
report today. I think it was since November twenty twenty three.
I think that's when they launched this TIMBT. They've lost
seven hundred million is what I think was the number.

and they broke up and they went away. They're not

I think since the legalization of sports saying, we've learned
that there's a there's a big difference between knowing sports
