Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sick to describe you. Back to the Hamilton Sideline we
go on this Thursday morning, wet Thursday, We're going to
the guard. One of my favorite coaches is Justin Jones,
and he is live on the Hamilton's sideline.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good morning, Coach Jones, Hey, good morning men.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
How are you this morning? Hold on? We got that
guard signal going on here. I'm just kidding. We got
the rule? Are you there?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Hold on?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Let me do there?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
We go A much coach question right quick before we
get started. I enjoyed the time was spent last night
on the Coaching Show. Did you notice a difference though
I give you seven or eight minutes?

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Hold on? Hello?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
That question again, I said?

Speaker 3 (00:45):
I said, I did time out?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Time out?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
No, no, no, hold on, no, no, no, he didn't hear it.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I know, is he there? Are you there?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
I'm here?

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Lost him?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I think, yeah, I got you? But all I heard
was did I did? I? He might?

Speaker 3 (00:58):
I said, Okay, I enjoyed. I enjoyed. No, no, I
enjoyed the time we spent last night. You you, you
and I and Coach Wallace on the Coaching Show last night?
Did you notice a difference. Uh, and last night and
there you know, the previous weeks, well, there was a
little difference.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
I mean, you know, there was certain uh, certain folks around,
certain folks that was I thought that, uh, you know,
the the way that y'all are doing it now, I
really enjoyed that part of it. Now my now, my
wings got cold. But that's okay.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Hey yeah, yeah, the orders you got to you gotta
do it timely.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, hey finished, let him finish.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I have learned. I've got to figure out now with
the you know, the new way of the Coaches Show rolls,
that's kind of kind of changes. It may change the
way I approached things that when we show up that
kind of stright.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Jeff, I'm gonna put a quick TV time out. I'll
let you continue with Coach Jones. To let our listeners know,
over the thirty plus years i've hosted.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
The No, No, before you go in to that coach,
the difference was, you know that most exciting six minutes,
I give you seven or eight minutes, two or three?

Speaker 1 (02:08):
All right, okay, all right, now that you've gotten that
out of the way.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I just wanted him to acknowledge.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
That when we started the show. We did it live,
and we did it X time to X time, and
the coaches came in, they sat down in order they ordered.
We got them as the you know, as the order
they came in. Because of the changing world of football,
the morning practices, the changes, coaches are arriving now as
early as four thirty because they don't have Wednesday afternoon practice.

(02:36):
So we have the capabilities of starting to record coaches
immediately around five forty five, full forty five, record the segment,
insert them, and play them at six o'clock. So what
Jones is talking about, Coach Jones, is now they do
not have to wait until eight forty eight forty five eight,
I mean seven forty five for this segment. We were

(02:57):
done at seven fifteen from forty something like that, and
so it.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Was, Hey, I'm telling you, I think I got home
the earliest I've gotten all week.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Well, and you got more time, and you had more time,
And that's giving us more time with coaches because we
had a two hour window. Now we can stretch it
further by going after eight. So we're giving coaches seven
to eight minutes now, which is a lot better. And
I'm going to give our staff here at iHeart credit
for that. So I appreciate Jason and Van and yes
Jeff too for what we do, and thank you, coach.

(03:30):
We want to make it better for all the coaches,
and that was a big deal too. I don't like
coaches to have to wait at seven point thirty seven,
wait to hurry up, and we hurry them through an interview.
So thank you for mentioning that, Coach Jones, that means
a lot. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Hey, I like I tell you all the time, this
part of the state has and let's be honest, in
my travels, I've been pretty much everywhere around in the state,
and so hey, y'all do a tremendous job of just
highlighting high schools. Not I mean, I get football's football,
and you know, we're in the South and football is

(04:04):
what you know, it is what it is. But y'all
do y'all still do it? Get y'all to highlight all.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
The high school But well, coach, thank you very much,
if you don't mind, you know, thank you very much
for saying that. All right, coach, let's talk about your
game last week. It was a good win for you.
I'll let you recap the the score I had it
hold on just to say, coach, I want to go
down the entire.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Pard.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
I had it right here in front of me when
we were talking coach Justin Jones with us, we're talking
Boargard Football Hornets for two and one. They beat Marbory
fifty four to seven last week, hat Silicaga this week.
Want to know when the region coach, Now, let me
let you talk about that fifty point win over Marbory
real quick, not real quick?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Well right now, Well it was. It was a really good,
you know, just complete game at times for us. We
are still not where we need to be, of course,
because there's a lot of things that we've got to
be better at. But we started fast and made some
explosive plays. Our defense cast some turnovers, made a couple

(05:05):
of plays in the kicking game, and then as we
all know, man, it'll snowball in a hurry, and that's
kind of what took place. I don't, I mean, I'm not,
Marvey's not a bad football team. It was just, you know,
things just happened. The snowball in a hurry. We hit
a couple of big plays I think, you know, in
like the first eid offense to snatch we scored three touchdowns.
So like just things like that that snow you know

(05:26):
that just could happen. That's happened to me, I promise
you as a Higgs football coaches, it's happened to me before.
And it's just when that momentum starts rolling, it's like
you just it just happens that way. And that was
kind of what happened for us Friday night. We just
had a lot of a lot of positive things happened
for us in a really short amount of time that
ended up you know, the score being what it was,

(05:48):
it was a great night for our community out here.
Uh you know how first home game and we had
some with the new edition of lights and sound of
the stadium was so much so much more improved than
what it's been. So that was a big deal. And so,
you know, just just a great atmosphere Friday night. You know,
it was the or so I'm really anxious, you know

(06:10):
to get back back home. I know we got to
go on the road this week to Silicago. But with
what happened, you know what, the atmosphere that was created
the other night, it makes our folks more a lot
more excited about you know, coming to our home games,
no doubt.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
All right, Justin Jones board guard head coach with US
Hornets or two and one Cub Jones through over three
hundred yards at quarterback coach. Obviously he played extremely well.
He had to have help from his line. He had
to help from his back end receivers. Talk about your
offense a little bit here, if you don't mind.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
I think, I mean it was it was a good night.
And I think that the biggest difference Friday night compared
to the last couple of weeks was was the protection
there was. There was more time to get the football
down the field. And I think, you know, our guys,
I think there's been times even in we talk to
an anasty game where we've have receivers that are that

(07:01):
are making, that are that are open, just not having
having the time to get the ball to them. On
Friday night, the guys up front did a really good
job of allowing us to have that opportunity. And then
the guys wentn't made plays. You know what it means
to our receivers, uh, you know, And it was really like,
I mean, it wasn't just one particular one guy, it
was it was all our guys, you know, from Jemiah Fitch,

(07:22):
who's our only there's our senior of the group, and
then all our underclassmen from Jordan Jackson, Andre Van to
Aidan Johnson. Those guys have done, i mean, just had
really impactful uh seasons already, and it's really that's what
we kind of expect from them. I think what everybody
saw Friday night was something that, man, we we've seen

(07:42):
for months. The way these guys have worked all all
season in the summer with the seven on sevens and
OTAs and stuff. We've seen these guys make these plays.
Our folks were just able to see it in a
Friday night situation, uh the other night. So and those
guys are capable of doing it every Friday night. They
really are there those types of youngs me. So I
think Friday was just, like I said, a lot of

(08:04):
big plays that we had. And then k Jayon Holloway,
our senior running back who really is like the all
purpose type kid. I mean, he can and does a
good job running the ball, but he's also really good.
He's a really good with his hands, you know, does
a lot for us in the passing game too. So
he had another big night for us, and so it
was just kind of a culmination of having protection and

(08:25):
being able to get the ball down to field vertically
and get the ball to our young men to make
plays for us. So I hope, you know, for us
now it should be a confidence booster for our young men.
Hopefully that that parlays into Friday night being able to
have some more confidence as as we approached Silicok.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
All right, Justin Jones had a book coach at Boorguard
Football on it's two and one, coming off a big
victory over Marbury Silicaga on the road coach all time
six and two one, thirty nine, thirty eight. Last year,
this team is not won a game. I don't think heavy.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Code Silicaga has. Yes, sir, no, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I was wrong to yah Silico.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
My bad.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
I didn't mean to do that. I was sitting here
looking Throng one talk a little bit about Silicot.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
I mean they're they're sitting there too, and one as well.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Yeah, I'm sorry, So you know.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
I mean they're they're playing much better football. And uh,
last year was a barn burner. I mean that was
that was the game that you know, we were down
twenty two with about six minutes to go in the game.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
I didn't realize that I was able.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
To come back. And anyway, uh and look when when
I going into the game trying to do that again,
I promise it nobody wants to. That was just one
of them once in a lot of time deals and
so uh, but anytime you go on the road, there's
always you know, you're not playing at home, you're not
playing under you know, you're you know, you know, our
folks will travel well, but it's still anytime you go
on the road, there's all those obstacles that you run into.

(09:44):
So we're gonna have to got to be able to
run the football better. That's something we we kind of
harped on the past few weeks, is being able to
you know, run the football better. Couse it just sets
up so much for us, especially like you know, pushing
the ball vertically down the field, getting the ball out
and I play makes their hands on the edge. So
that's something that we've had emphasis on on our offenses.
It's just trying trying to be more fitness full at

(10:05):
the point of the cat been able to try to
run the football better. Hopefully we'll be able to do
that Friday night. I mean Silicog is a good group,
athletic like they usually are, you know, the you know, schematically,
they're they're sound, and uh, you know, they've got some
there's some things that they do that can poise us,
that can bring us issues that we've got to make
sure that we do a good job. Uh. You know,
our preparation has been well this week. So you know,

(10:28):
then then on the flip side them uh them offensively
to our defensively, they they've been in some wildcat stuff
uh and tried to you know, really be a physical
group up front and try to run the football right
act you So, I think it's gonna be which I
mentioned last night. I think Jeff asked me, you know,
what was the key defensively, and I think it's it's
it's it's upfront. This week. It's gonna be a big

(10:49):
you know, that's gonna be a big battle. He's winning
in the trenches this week just because of what they've
shown they've done in the past few weeks. So I
think that's gonna you know, trying to make them one dimensional.
They've had they had an injury or two off on
their side of the ball offensively, So we've got to
try to make a one dimensional Friday night. I think
that could that could help us have ultimate team success.

(11:10):
And then you never know what this weather. I think
it'll be out of here by tomorrow night. You just
never know. So anytime you've got you know, wet, rainy conditions,
special teams become a huge factor. You know, because when
you know this was snapping and kicking and holding and
all those things come into play. So the time you
know we spent yesterday, you know a lot of people
I don't know, I don't know how it was everybody,

(11:31):
but it rained at borguard Yestash and it we went in.
It wasn't any type of lightning or severe weather. So
we went in practice just to make sure that we
were snapping wet balls, catching wetballs, throwing wet balls, holding
on the wet balls. So, uh, just in case we
run into that issue Friday night, we've had some prep
this week with it. So uh, our kids have done
a good job. I think you know they're they're shyed

(11:52):
again anytime you grow closer to Friday night, and I
try to encourage our kits man man, I enjoy this
like I try. I'm trying to do a better job
at my age to try to enjoy Friday nights, and
I hope that they do, because it really is many
the older I get, the faster I feel like it's
going by, you know, like and our you know, I'll
see kids that I've coached on Facebook that are been

(12:13):
made having kids and all this kind I'm like, dang,
I just remember that. I felt like that it was
just yesterday, but that kid was seventeen eighteen years old
playing running back or linebacker receiver for us at a
different stop. So just just try to enjoy and just
enjoy those Friday night lights. And I think that, you know,
our guys try to do a good job of that.
We try to do a good job of that with

(12:34):
our coaches and just you know, making the most of
every opportunity. And that's what we're gonna try to do
Friday night.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
I understand that and need to enjoy it. We were
talking about that this this morning with coach McDonald, about
making sure the kids and enjoy themselves while they're playing.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Well, it's it's.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Hard, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
I mean, I think because it is it is football,
and let's be honest run in the South. So, like
I mean, I could be the best, I could be
the best human being in the world. I could be
the best quote unquote pee person of a weight room coach.
But if we don't win football games, the board guard
my state here is not going to be lost, you
know what I mean. Like, that's just reality, and I
think every coach understands that. So there is that added

(13:21):
pressure and at the same time, but you want kids
to enjoy what they're doing, enjoy being a part of
your program, and just enjoy football because it's the only
I tell kids all the time. Man, Like I can
pick up run a pick up basketball game two mornings
out of the week. If I want to get out
of bed at four thirty and go play pick up basketball,
I can go. I can go play men's softball three
night side of the week if I want to get

(13:41):
my baseball, you know, running around the base catch the
fly ball kid, But nobody's going to put on him
in the shoulder path and beat the fool out of
each other when they get our age. They're just not
you know. So there's a very short window where where
you can play the game of football and high school
football needs to be it's part of that short window
and just enjoying those times because there's so many memories

(14:02):
that I have, and I even like collegs in football,
but man, so many great memories of play in high
school football because it's a brotherhood. It's it's the guys
you grew up with. It's that small town atmosphere that
you just get every Friday night, but you just don't
get even at the college level becomes such a business,
you know, So just trying to get them men to understand, man,

(14:22):
just chairs these times, go these times, make the most
of them, have no regrets, leave it all out there.
Just things like that that you want to try to
encourage them to remember.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
No, you're right, I mean, it's easier said than done,
but it is important that they try to enjoy themselves
out there. It's hard, coach, it's hard to go out
there every afternoon.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
And I'll leave y'all with this because I know our
time is running though. I'll leave y'all with this. It's
not always about the Friday night. And Friday nights are important.
But I had a young man that I coached come
by and came by and saw me already he's out
of high scho we'll graduated. Whatever came by and saw
me and brought me his certificate, brought and showed me

(15:07):
his certificate of Baptist.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
I appreciate you. Don't know how much you impacted this
part of my life. And it's not just Coach Jones.
It's not a Coach Jones thing. It's it's an importance
of our program thing we try to Our goal is
to of course make it the top ten experience for
every young man, but it's also to create a whole
man that's that's physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. And you know,

(15:33):
hats off to like the Mitchell Deans that pour into
our kids every day. These are the coaches brother Rusty
at Providence that pours into our young men every week.
And like just stuff like that to me, man that like, honestly,
it did my heart good because like that's a that's
a huge, big picture deal, you know. I mean, wins
and losses are great, and I get it, and that's

(15:55):
part of the job. I understand it. That's part of
a top ten experience. But like that young man stopping
by to showed me that, like to me. That's that's
the eternal that's an eternal impact that that is really
at the end of the day, all this stuff is great,
but like that's that's really what it's all about.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
It is that is there's no doubt about that, no
doubt about that. Well, Coach Jones, thank you very much
for your time. Let me talk to you a little
bit before we go. Tell me about your JV middle
School Junior Highway.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Middle school man middle schools killing it. Uh, still undefeated
three and zero on the year. Had a big win
against Valley on Monday, travel to Russell County on the
next week. You know, Jav's playing really well, but just low,
I mean, uh, just really excited about about the future

(16:46):
of our bunch. I mean like there, uh you know,
just a good group of kids that are playing hard.
Got some explosive kids in that middle school group that
are playing really well right now. And uh you know this,
Uh you know they understand. Those guys are understand like,
you know, we've had some success, a lot of success
the past couple of years in that middle school league,

(17:08):
and they know the target on their back. But they're
still going out every day and trying to put the
work in and put the time in in the pre
preparation for their money, not experience. So really proud of
that group and where they are right now. They got
a big one Monday when they travel to Russell County
because they we do it, you know, we do a
little playoff deal as they start to wind up, so
you know that when you know they've already got three

(17:29):
games under their belt and there's only I think they're
going to play about five or six and then have
a little playoff deal. So you know, right now is
a lot of the next couple of weeks will be
big seeding games for the pur little middle school playoff week.
So excited about watching those guys.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Get after all, right, coach, best of luck to you,
Thank you very much for your time.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
A friend I appreciated guy.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Justin Jones. He's the head coach of the Boar Guard
Horn
