Speaker 1 (00:47):
You know, I forgot.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
I've seen you just about every time. I think, you know,

I'm there four days a week. I got I got

on four nights a week, so I'm there every night.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
That's awesome. You know what, let me tell you something
from man.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
It's got two that of course one's visiting now that
lives in Texas and Mobile enjoyed the moment.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yeah, oh absolutely, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, Coach is good to hear from you. I appreciate
that hawk in the mornings when you go by early.

Speaker 5 (01:18):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's this first hand getting to talk
to you.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Been pretty busy this summer.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, yeah, I've been wanting to make sure we got
got a time for you.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
I know you you start rolling early, so give us
a little.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Rundown on your team, coach, tell us what's going on
over at least got Academy.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
Well that's you know, it's it's just like everybody else.
It's just a normal summer. We've been doing our workouts
and you know, football drills in the mornings and we've
gone three weeks now, we're right, we just got over
the halfway point. You know that we always take the
fourth of July week off, which everybody should, you know,
give them a little break and then take a little
time to be with family. And then you know, we
got three more weeks and you know, the regular season

(01:54):
practices upon us. The summer flies by. Uh you never
like you have enough time. But uh, kids has been
getting at it pretty good, working hard, Uh doing the
little things and uh and I've been proud of the
summer so far. And uh uh we got three more
weeks and uh started starting again today. Now we had
a seven or seven yesterday, but we have to start

(02:15):
workouts again this morning.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Uh, right early seven.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
So ready to get back with all the kids and
get back to work. And you know, I said the
seasonill be honest, before we know it, there.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Ain't no doubt about it. Does anybody beat you to
the school? Yep? In the morning, I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
They really don't trying during the summer, you know. That's yeah,
you know that the Thursday thing Thursday morning is kind
of their game, you know, trying to beat me up here.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
But no, nobody's done this so far. And that coach
wade to beat me up here.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
But now and then oh man, that.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Five thirty two, five forty two he gives me on
the way by here they ain't eating anymore, goes to
work beat him.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
You know. All right, let me.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Ask you this, coach, So all right, give me your
your quarterback situation.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Now I believe you have.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
I was trying to think, well, let me go back,
let me go back before I go in the quarterback.
And I hate to bring up this, but I called
him about working. Hayden Harvard got he was playing football
and not able to play anymore.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
He got injured, Is that right? Coach?

Speaker 3 (03:11):
He did? Uh?

Speaker 5 (03:12):
You know he was he was gonna play this year
and he was very excited about it.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yes, he was plus for us. You know they thinking
out Oabama. You most most.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Schools, well, I say all schools. It's got a team. Uh.
You know, they focused on basketball here in June and
then July's county of football and baseball just mixed in.
And uh, he injured his knee and a playdate. I
think they were Auburn, I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Exactly, coach.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
And and it's the and it's the slight injury. He's
already had a little third and got it fixed and
he's good. But you know, decided not to and I
I totally understand. And he just this guy loves basketball
more than Yeah, I totally understand. I just hate the
fact that I'm gonna get to coach him, you know, uh,
because he is a tremendous athlete, tremendous football player, basketball player,

(03:56):
but more than anything, he's a tremendous person.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
He is that he's.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
He's gonna be around with us and you know, but
he's he's gonna support us. But you know, he's not
gonna play.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
But you know, and I totally understand.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
He's one of the guys that works for me out
the park coach. And I'm gonna tell you something. He
was excited about playing football and he was, he was,
and I didn't know that he played, you know, in
the past.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
He gave me the story.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
I didn't know all that because you know, I didn't
and I felt I caught him about working one weekend
and he was he was on his way back from surgery.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
And I said, shoot, you know, I called him shooter.
I said, what the heck, shooter?

Speaker 2 (04:32):
And he told me, and so tell me what's gonna
play football?

Speaker 1 (04:35):
You could hear it in his voice.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
So anyway, I wanted to bring that up because I
thought he is a great young man from what I know, coach,
I think the world. Yeah, and he is a good
basketball player. Anyway, back to your team, coach, kind of
give us. I think you got a big quarterback, a big,
tall one that can sling it, so kind of tell
us about your offense.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
Yeah, yeah, Well we got Max came over last year
from Aulbroom with us, and you know, he fought for
the job last year, but he was kind of you know,
his up against the walls of the bill. We had
a guy who's been running the offense for two years
that has two state championships and you know, Max, Max
David Orders could he just never could you know, win
the job.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Still played a lot.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
Contributed, but yes, like you says, he's a big body,
moves well, got a big arm. You know, just right
now it's his job to lose. We got Max is
gonna be a senior. We got a couple of young guys.
Griffin Gash is playing a little bit of quarterback and
a lot of receiver, a lot of dB. You know
here at least got in a lot of small schools.
All these guys hadn't played two, three or four positions.

(05:33):
So Gryffin Gaston is doing that he's playing quarterback, he's
playing some receiver and he's playing dB, so he's getting
a few reps there quarterback. We got a couple of
young guys and watched Johnson, which would be a uh,
tenth grader is getting.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Some rep the quarterback.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
And then we've got Trenor Johnson also it's gonna be
a ninth grader.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
So we got we got four guys that can play
a little quarterback. We need them.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
They're all different skill sets, you know, they all run
a little bit. But Max definitely got the big arm.
He's proving that, you know yesterday and then a couple
weeks ago in Ata and the seven on seven stuff.
Uh So I like where we are there. The other guys,
they're all learning and and and getting better each day.
So I like where we are at quarterback right now?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
All right?

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Coach Buster daniel lea'st got academy football coach on the
mark with us on the hamilts this outline six eighteen
on a beautiful Tuesday morning here in East Alabama going
over his.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Football team running back.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Coach, I know you got several graduated, some good ones,
So tell me about who you got coming back or
he will be playing.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
Yeah, well we've got Brooks Zachary which has been there. Yeah,
Brooks is he started as this has been up here, big,
big kid runs the ball, good, runs hard, very smart.
Uh so he'll be in there. Braxton Cox is another one.
Braxton been playing a lot, does a good job for those.
Those are the main two. And of course they've got
some young guys that are that are trying to jump

(06:56):
in those roles. But those that's the main two guys
that have been playing for us on Fridays right now.
That we got a couple of young guys that are
trying to learn, uh, trying to get in the system
and prove what they can do. But with Brooks and
Braxton Woll.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
They would be the main guys towing the ball this year.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
You know what Braxton's gotten big. He works for me
out to part two coach. He's he works out a lot.
Apparently he's a pretty solid young man.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
He does.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Both those guys are really strong.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
I don't know the other.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Yeah, yeah, well Brooks, Yeah, Brooks pay back.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I know brother Pilot as I call him.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, that's right, that's right, that Brooks is bigger than Pilot.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Okay, okay, yeah, he's.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
Brooks about six foot six one and uh and and runs.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
The ball really well.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
What about up front, coach, both of us know that's
your used to be your spot, that offensive line. Tell
me about your line on both go ahead and go
on both sides with that.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah, well it still is my spot. I still go
top in July. That's my love.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
So, uh, you know, we lost a couple of guys
last year, but we got a couple of returning Max
Shaw will be a starting right tackle. Max as a
big kid, getting a couple of looks. He's got a
couple offers already. Mact is like six four three oh five,
so he's a returning tackle beside him being grant blythe
grants returning starter off sord guard. So he's uh, he's

(08:13):
not quite as big, but he's a tough kid and
does great job for us.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
There.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
Uh, we'll have a probably have a new center this year.
We're still trying to bait on that. When we got
a young kid right now. He's been working most of
the first reps is uh is William Marshall.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
We have didn't played last year. He just played baseball.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
He's gonna be a tenth grader, but he again he's
learning the offense. He does a great job for us
tough kids, and I probably right now left guard. We
got a young man that came over from Oplaka. His
dad teaches out here with us. Name is Hayden Wilson,
So Hayden Hayden. He played off his line little bit
of opla, like I think he's not a big kid,

(08:50):
but he's he's he's fairly strong, he moves good, and
he's got a lot of knowledge of the offensive line coming.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
From over there.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
So he's probably gonna be starting right there. And then uh,
our left tackle right now and probably gonna be there's
another big kid, Davis mcayasac Uh Davis, he's probably Dave's
probably six three.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Six four, two hundred sixty pounds.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
So I mean we got a good starting unit. And
after that it's a bunch of young guys uh that
that are scrappy. We just got to get the weight
on them and get them in the weight room.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
So uh, that's that's the.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
Starting five guys right there, and uh, you know they've
been working hard this summer is.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Summer is hard on big guys. You know that.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
Yep, So we having to push him through. But they're
working hard and uh and doing good things for us
right now.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Good deal. We're talking at least got academy football, d Mark,
Jeff and James Cooper with coach Buster Daniel. He's on
our Hamletons hotline this morning. Coach went over your offense,
let's jump the defense. I'll let you kind of give
us a rundown. How many play both ways? And so
forth and so on.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Well, I said we were gonna have probably right now,
probably nine guys play.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
That's what I figured.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's a lot, you know.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
We I'm gonna tell you we're right now the way
the way that society is today, d Mark. Right now,
nine through twelve, I have about forty two kids playing.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Uh and that's down.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
We don't we don't know from today to tomorrow if
they're gonna side not to play. But right now we
got forty two and and like I said, at least
nine of those guys are going to play both ways.
Now we're trying to get young guys that come on
to uh, to to rest those guys so they can play,
you know, because I'm gonna tell you something, you know,
and everybody knows when when you get tired, your your

(10:29):
mind goes doing things wrong. You don't, you know, run
right Ralph on offense, you lose focus on defense.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
So we got to get some more guys ready to play.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
But like I said, most of those guys I just
called that while to go are gonna be on just
flip over the other side of the defense. I didn't
mention the receivers while to go, we got right right
Why Eastern Gregory, Whyite Watley?

Speaker 3 (10:51):
You know Preston hugely.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
All those guys are gonna fly on offense and just
flip right on play defense again. So you know all
those guys will be playing both ways. So he got
nine to eleven that is gonna be playing on outside.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Of the ball too.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
That's a couple of guys bo king on play some
outside linebacker over there for us if you don't play
a whole on offense right now. But he's capable of
doing it. That's say think somebody that of course some
of your defensive linemen, uh Max Shi will play some
those h but some of those guys won't be on
offense to get to play bill players down on that
side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
On the defensive line with Hamlen play hammer, play both ways,
Coach Max, No, he'll.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
He'll just play offense. I mean of course he now
look he he's also punter.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Be a kickoff guy.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
You know last year he came in at the third
game and punted and only had like eighteen to twenty
punts and average just to touch over fifty yards. Upon
you make SAX team all step I did.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
See that, coach, I didn't know he was letting. That's wrong.

Speaker 5 (11:49):
Replaced he replaced an all state park.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Yes he did.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
And Barry cook Man, yeah I forgot.

Speaker 5 (11:56):
Yeah, Bears average almost fifty yards when he got hurt.
You know. So there's another one mentioned, Bart Cooking the
Stars that plays the little hybrid tight end tight spot
for us. And uh Grayson Grayson Hayley, which is to
be his first year playing. He came in Chambers, big
good basketball.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Okay, the blond headed kid that played back.

Speaker 5 (12:15):
Yeah, he's back out with us.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
That gives you another thread on both sides of the
ball too. I fail to mention those two guys.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
That's some size the too. Both those have some size, coach, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
Good big kids that can run. But we've got we've
got three punters. If you if you take if you
take Barrett, you at Max and then Brooks Zachary also
Brooks will be our third best punter. And he's just
started at six schools around here. So we've got are
Our kicking game is in good shape. We got a
young kid that just moved in from Tuscaloosa, came Thomas Carmichael.

(12:49):
Thomas just gonna be a ninth grader and uh didn't
even know he kicked, you know, he just he's moved
in and mom mentioned going to a kicking camp, so.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
I asked him.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
And the first day we're out, he's kicked twenty five
balls and hits twenty three of them. So and he's
kicking us up. He's kicking us on from forty So
I mean, you know, he the Lord takes care of you. Yeah,
tacking game right now, Our kicking games is pretty good shape.
You know, we got to install all the teams and
get all that stuff timed up, but our kickers are
doing a good job.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Right.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
And as you know that can win some games, or
say some games for you, coach, hep you, oh I
know what I mean, or cost you if you don't
do right, you know.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
What I mean, if you don't work and it will
get Yeah, we definitely work our special teams.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Well, I know you got to go, coach. I appreciate
you spending a little time with us this morning.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
We'll be catching up with you in a few weeks,
all right, keeping up to date with you as we
get towards media days.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Thanks for what you do and thanks for spending time
with us, coach.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Okay, well, thank you guys.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
I appreciate you giving us the time and Warriors.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Go Warriors, thank you.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
But you know what, year six, I would have never
thonk it unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
That's awesome.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
Coach's time flyes man, I got to see it. I
got to see a bunch of guys yes say but
over lock that I either coached or a lot of
my coach with. Man, it's a good time catching up
and good it just thinks I got I just left.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Over like a yes, oh yeah you were over there yesterday.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
I forgot y'all had any practice Yeah yeah, yeah we did.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
We had a those seven on seven term yesterday, so
it was good for us. But it was good catching
up with those guys. Man, and my guys played well.
We had one let down game. It was in the
pool play, but we ended up went in the bracket,
so I was proud of our guys.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
We did a good job.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Good deal.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Coach, have a great day, Thank you very much. How's
coach Washington doing. How's coach doing?

Speaker 3 (14:24):
He's doing great. You know.

Speaker 5 (14:25):
He's never steal a yeah, so he's on the go
all the time.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
But he's doing good, good, good, no problem, all right, coach,
take care buddy, Thank you.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Hey, have a good one.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Yep.
