Speaker 1 (00:00):
Every Monday morning on the Mark and Glenn Smith's Chevrolet
presents Chamber Chat with Ali Row and we certainly appreciate
Ali being here with us. Time now for Opahlika's Chamber Chat,
presented every Monday morning at this time by Glenn.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Smith Chevrolet GMC opah Laika. Get ready to smile.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
That's exactly right, Get ready to smile. Ali's in the
studio smiling. You have good weekends?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, it was like you said, it was a rough
football weekend. All three of my teams lost. I didn't
love it, But now said, who lost us?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Did that Packer?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
The Packers lost agains of Eagles on Friday night? I
mean it was a good game I forgot. I mean
the I don't know, probably a world record for the
number of penalties, if I had to guess, like it
was absurd. I mean, actually I think Auburn beat them
on Saturday for penalties. But yeah, the way, honestly, like
(00:58):
I kind of I kind of knew the like very
towards the end, that we were not going to make
it or we were not going to pull out a win.
And I have to remind myself and my dad that
they are a young team. And they are. I mean,
I think they're the league's youngest team in terms of average,
a twenty five point three or something like that. So
they're very talented, but they're still figuring their stuff out.
(01:20):
And we had a lot of you know, illegal formations
and illegal motion and things like that that were just
like dumb mistakes, but it is what it is. And
so we were struggling at the end but driving to
try and win, and then h Jordan Love went down
with an injury and I was like, okay, no, this,
we just can't have this. And so it turns out
(01:42):
it's like a I guess an mcl sprain, but it's
between a level one and level two. So hopefully they
said three to five weeks, so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Let me tell you something. You you for real, you
for real, you start going into the levels and how
the dude three to five weeks, she's given us an
injury report. That girl's got game.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well, I hope that he'll be back before the Packers
take on the Vikings. At the end of the moud
looking up, No, I mean we honestly, everybody in the
NFC North, it's pretty intense. Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Viking,
Minnesota Vikings. I just like all of them. My dad,
(02:26):
my dad dislikes the Vikings the worst. I dislike the
Bears the worst. But we've beaten them for so long
that I guess maybe now I should disl like the
Lions since they're our biggest competition. But I mean, we've
owned the North for so so so long that I
don't know. We're kind of a spoiled franchise because we
just expect the We don't just expect the playoffs. We
(02:48):
expect like the super Bowl every year as a fan base.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
And you know, coach Gray, but Minnesota's big biking fan
now is he.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Let's go THEO. I tend to have a good time,
like grilling people up. I have. I actually try talk
a lot of trash.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I can tell.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
But hey, but I love my team and I'm very
passionate about them.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
So it was a beatdown. I beat It wasn't good.
It wasn't a beat Then it was thirty four to
twenty nine. But I didn't know you had all that
go on, So yeah, it was.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
It was not great, But hey, I mean we play
I think the Titans next Sunday, and then somebody else.
We got a couple of noon games. It's the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
No you got oh yeah in Tennessee. Then Minnesota, that's right,
and you're playing Minnesota on well it's a Sunday game.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Too, so it's a Sunday, but it's the last Sunday.
And like, because we played on Friday, we don't play
this or next week. So we got some time. We'll
see a good deal.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Auburn lost, O Black a loss, So it was roughly
rough weekend. Was my only team that won was the Brave.
Everybody else lost, Falcons lost, Alabama won. That was one
of my teams that won.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
So yeah, we walked, we were walking for the stadium
back to our car, and I was I looked at Todd,
I was like, aren't you so glad that the wins
and losses of football teams no longer dictate my mood
on the weekends, because they really There was a time
in my life where I was just I was not
well when my team's lost. And yeah, I'm not like
(04:21):
that anymore. I mean, I can't do anything about it,
Like whether I'm wearing my lucky shirt or not, I
can't do anything about it. They are the players, They
are the professional athletes. I'm going to cheer for them hard,
but I'm also not going to let it dictate my life.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
No, like what Jeff says, whether they win or lose,
am I going to be any better out of it?
Speaker 2 (04:39):
No?
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I don't make any money if they win. I don't
make it, lose any money if they lose. Not Gamma.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
So anyway, even as even as a shareholder of the group,
I make nothing, I get nothing out of it.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
All right, So tell us what's going on with the Chamber.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well, you know, gosh, I can't believe it's September. I mean,
it's just wild. This week we do you have? I
think on Thursday at ten am if my dates are correct,
we've got a ribbon cutting, a joint ribbon cutting with
Smart Bank. They are located at nineteen forty East Sandford
Avenue in Auburn. So we're excited to be joining up
(05:15):
with the Auburn Chamber for that event. Smart Bank, Smart Bank, yep,
smart Bank. We have I think we've got Yeah, We've
got a couple OYP events coming up this week. We've
got pickleball. Our Sports and Recreation crew is playing pickaball
at the Marriott at five a pm on Tuesday, and
then on let's see Thursday, there is also another event
(05:39):
for OYP they're doing our Community Service crew is doing
a clean up of the Creek Line trails, so that
should be pretty good. But really I think that's about
it for us this week. But we're looking ahead to
next week. We've got OYP has another event. They're doing
a movie night out to go watch Beetlejuice two together.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
So it's on the seventeenth.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
It's on the seventeen. People are very much looking forward
to it. We've got next Thursday Business after Hours with Allergy,
Asthma and Immunology, and that is from five to seven
pm at nineteen twenty five East Glenn in Auburn. And
then let's see Next Friday is Food Trick Friday. So
those are the next couple weeks. But again we are
(06:20):
I mentioned this last week, but the Valor Awards is
coming up on looking at that, Yeah, Tuesday, the twenty sixth,
and so tickets are on sale right now. It's a
black tie, gay List style event. We encourage people to
dress to impress. If you don't want to wear a
tux or you don't want to wear a suit. That's okay,
you wear whatever you feel good in. I myself will
be in a long dress and my husband in a suit.
But that's from five thirty to eight on Tuesday the
(06:41):
twenty sixth. And I'm really excited to hear from Noah Galloway,
who's a beloved Dancing with the Stars alum and Operation
Iraqi Freedom survivor slash soldier that is an amputee as
a result from some of his injuries there, and so
I'm excited to hear from him. Also a Birmingham native,
I think maybe even I think it's Coleman technically, but
(07:04):
in the Birmingham area, still lives there, and excited to
have him come down to Opelika while we uh not
only listen to his story but also award our Firefighter
the Year, a police Officer of the Year, Shriff Deputy
of the Year, and more.
