Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up? What's up?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Pos Corpus Christie in the house.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
You certainly are. I posted that photo this morning.

Speaker 4 (00:10):
I don't know if you remember. It was photos from
the questionable studio couch where, yes, where I have my
hand on your knee and you're making the most hilarious face.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Ever, how have you been. I'ven't talked to you in
a couple of years.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hell yeah, old school.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
So you're doing the at my Leisure WARLD tour and
you're bringing it right here to Corpus Christy to the
Selena Auditorium on Saturday, March the twenty ninth, and you
can grab your tickets at felipeesworld dot com. Is there
anywhere else to get tickets or is it just primarily
that site.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Philipilworld dot com. Or just walk to the theater and
buying yourself.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, easy enough.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
I was watching I guess Superstore and I see you
pop up and I'm like, I.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Turn to my girl, I'm like, hey, I know that guy.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
I do that a lot with comedians, because it's wild
how comedians I think, are being hired to do so
many different shows and movie cameos and whatnot. But you've
you've had a really great run at being on the
big screen and the small screen. Did that just kind
of happen for you? Do they go, we need this

(01:24):
guy to be on our show? How does that happen
for you?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Oh? Man? When I did when I did my first.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Comedy special, and when I did it on Showtime, and
then they went on Netflix and then so and then
somebody showed it and it went viral. So people got
to see my face, so they liked my look.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
And sometimes they.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Put me in a movie, not the whole movie, just
a small art So I'm like a day player, yea,
And I go in there bro like like a serial,
like a like an actor hired to do two lines,
and you know, I will.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
I would.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
I used to think that that was the easiest job,
you know, to have like a couple of lines in
a movie or a sitcom.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
But it's the hardest part because.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
You're gonna come in perfectly with perfect timing when it's
your turn to talk, not like the ensemble where they
could just improv and joke around and play around, and
it's the timing is very important. Then somebody actually holds
me and then pushing me into.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
The scene that slow go go work, you act slave you.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
And I think what would probably kill most is I
don't think people realize how much standing around there is
for more while they're setting lights and while they're getting
everything just right, and you're like, oh my god, I'll
be in my trailer.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yea, the addiction kicks in.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
People want to say, well, the one of the actually
have time to do drugs working all the time. Bro,
there's a lot of downtime.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Man.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
They got to pick that camera that may take an hour.
The lead actor's not there so we're gonna wait for him.
That may take three hours. And then man, you're gonna
get there for makeup two hours before your job.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
So a lot of downtime. Man. Look he i'ms ober. Now.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
You did something I think really smart when you did
bad decisions because you filmed it that special you did
in both English and Spanish. Was that your decision to
do it both ways?

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (03:35):
When when Netflix offered me the special, yeah, I wanted
more money, and I say, how about if I do
one in Spanish.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Too, I'll do it twice.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
I know, man, it was like I was, I was
trying to be like a salesman two life fries.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Was that cool.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Well, it seems like it worked out. Did you actually
get two paychecks or did they kind of like do like.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
One they give me.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
They paid me enough money to produce both specials.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Oh that's good.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Well good, But now I have a new special, and
this time I produced that all my style with my wife.
We filmed it and she directed it and we are
we sold it to Netflix, so it'll be out on
February eleventh.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
February eleventh, Felipe is new. That's that's awesome. And now
when you do a special like that, is it one
audience for a special or is it multiple shows? And
then those things are are piece together.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
If you're lucky, you do multiple days, multiple nights. But
I was lucky enough to just do two shows in
one night for the for my new special. I did
it all at the Sacramento Chrest Theater at the one hour.
They recorded it, and I went back and did another hour.
Oh man, they're going to cut both of them together,
like when I did when I did my Spanish one.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yeah, I did one in the Spanish.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
I did two Spanish shows that one night and two
English shows the second night, So.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
It's like twice the work.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
But you know, at least you at least you were
lucky enough to where you were able to have the
material to go out there and knock out an hour,
then do the other hour and then you're wrapped up, Yes,
instead of you having to come back for like, you know,
six days in a row or something.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
And I'm healthier this time because the last time, the
last special I did, Yeah, I did it one month
before they announced COVID, So I think I really had
COVID that special.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
I can hear it in my throat.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Well, how many times have you had COVID now, because
I think I've had it like three, at least three
confirmed times of tests, maybe four. Now it just seems like,
you know, there's a lot of people that are on
their third and fourth run.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
I think I got COVID like right before that movie
Blue Beetle came out.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I had an audition, and I.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Have Blue Beetle. I have a Blue Beetle. I had
on COVID at that time. I almost like got COVID once.
But I'm taking like so many more shots than a
heroinautic on a good one. I thought on that, you know,
like during the pandemic, like I had I had like
my brother has friends or heroinautics and they were afraid

(06:24):
to take the vaccine.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
So I don't want this to rop my veins.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yeah, how can you be a heroinautic and afraid of
COVID test? He was afraid, man, Like he was like,
I don't want that poison inside me.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Ibout the poison and you already.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
It's like those people that will drink then they don't
want to drink Nike.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Well, you're like, yeah, my neighboring else I know, right,
And that was good.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
That's the only thing I look forward to if I
get sick.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Well, when you got there, the little boy, did he
get you buzz? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:01):
If your parents are cold enough to give you that, yeah, shot,
a Nike will of course they didn't want to hear
from you for like eleven hours.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
That's funny. Man.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
If you're if you grew up in a in a
poor area, they give you a Stila or and they
tell your story that you go to sleep perfect.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Man.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Wow, So all right now, when you piece together this
latest special that's coming out February the eleventh, do you
like the production process when you're actually sitting in a
booth watching yourself or does it just feel like, Okay, man,
none of this is funny because I've already heard it
eleven times?

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Is it hard to piece us things together.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
It's hard to piece it together when you're like when
you're I'm listening, when I'm like performing it a year
for a year. Yeah, I got to perform it for
a year. So I get tired of listening to it,
and then I do what I learned from another comic.
I listen to the whole set I'm on my phone,

(08:01):
and then what I do is I go back and
do the show and reverse Like I start with the
open with the clothing line, and I ended with the
first line, and then then I mix it up with
the middle side, start with the middle, and end with
the end with the beginning. So so I get really
comfortable where these jokes actually work it in any formation.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Yeah, because a lot of people will save that last
you know, that last story, and they'll go, Okay, this
is how I'm gonna end it with the biggest thing.
So instead, when you work like that, you have to
start it with the biggest thing, and then that makes you,
that makes you elevate yourself. So the ending is just
as good as the beginning.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
That's cool.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Yeah, I learned that from that that comedian now Lewis
e K. Really yes, that's because.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
That way, so I said, you know, I'm gonna do
it that way too.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
It works for me too. Well.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
You're definitely a South Texas tradition at this point and
a and a real favorite in Corpus Christie. Anytime that
we've ever had you on the air, you know, either
at our show or KSA B or K ninety nine,
all of those listeners just go crazy for the fact
that you're actually that you're actually live in our studio
and your show.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
I've been going to Corpus Christie since the Kid Locals
tour back in the day.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Oh my god.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Yeah that was, Man, when was that? That had to
be like what late night there's something.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Two thousand man, two thousand and one?

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Wow, Yeah, I know it was.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
That's when.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
I used to perform at the at that big old place,
the bar at that big old bar area.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Oh man, there were there have been a couple that
have come and gone, but uh.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah, I think it's well closed. The bar was in
the back. It was a long bar and there was
a big arena and like I stayed there by Dandy.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Wow. I remember because I walked up to a guy
and asked.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Him for a pot, and I'm I'm an officer, and I.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Say, well, give me some evidence.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
You got any evidence over there in your trunk that
I can get to?

Speaker 2 (10:07):
And I always say that I got arrested in corporate
for humping a Selena statue.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Oh yeah, that's you know.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Everybody loves taking photos with that and then you know,
passing them around on social media. When you come to town,
do you make that special stop or if you actually do?

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Man? Yeah, I when I when I get close to it,
I start crawling to her statue, I do, guys, crawled
and breaking.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Back, knees all bloody.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
You know, I always wanted to be with a woman
that looks like Selena, but I would end up being
with a woman who looks like the killer.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
It's like, how come I wound up with a Yolanda
when I wanted a Selena?

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Yeah? Wrote her down like a like a brand new Honda.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
