Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're craving for a big deal, for a pretty big deal.
Wnd's US price and participation may vary.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
All right, We're gonna try to connect with Jaden Denegel,
San Diego State, second year starting quarterback again. Spring football
is underway and he is calling in right now. So
Jayden Denegal, San Diego State starting quarterback again on the
home of the Aztecs, San Diego Sports seven sixty. The
thing with football is it'll be here before you know it,
like all of a sudden, We'll look up. Yep, it'll

(00:33):
be late summer and the season will be here. They've
got a spring football game coming up on the mesa
May second as well. And it's great to reconnect with
Jayden Denegal, San Diego State, second year starting quarterback back
with us here on the home of the Asstex San
Diego Sports seven to sixty. First of all, Jaden, appreciate
you taking time for us. And secondly, you know, as
a lot of our listeners I think are aware of,

(00:53):
I mean, you battled through last year, you were dealing
with injuries throughout the course of the year. What's it
like getting into the spring now and being back healthy
as you ramp up for this upcoming season.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Absolutely, it's amazing and I appreciate you guys having me
on here. It's amazing to have surgery on my shoulder
and be able to be out there healthy with the
guys and just getting the rep so all the new
pieces that we have offensively and seeing defensively where we have,
it's been amazing through five practices and I'm just super
excited for upcoming season.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Jaden Well, first off, well, you know, let me just
probably say I'm an astec alum myself. So great to
see your success and coming success this upcoming season. Absolutely,
let me ask you, you know, what are you most
looking forward to? And I know we got some time,
but what is what's important for you personally once we
get to, you know, the first couple of games of

(01:45):
the season, what do you want to see from yourself?
What are you doing in the off season to try
to accomplish that.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Absolutely, I just want our offense to maximize all explosive,
explosive plays that we can create. I felt like last
year we were pretty good on like our deep play
action in our run game was really good. But I
just want to see a complete offensive showdown. I want
our quick game to be as good as possible. I
want to draw back pass, I want an RPO game
to be good, and I want our deplay action game.
So I just want to more of a complete offense

(02:13):
and just a more explosive offense. And we're going to
do that with all the new pieces that we have.
It's definitely gonna take some time, but we're definitely gonna
do that.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
San Diego State starting quarterback jam Dana Goll back for
year number two on the mesa with us right now
on San Diego Sports seven sixty. Here's a twofold question.
What was it about Sean Lewis initially that brought you
to San Diego State? And how advantageous is it to
have like a whole year under your belt together as
you get ready for your two working with each other.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Absolutely, Coach lou and his culture and the way he
keeps a standard throughout the whole program, and we actually
have a culture here San Diego State and bonds throughout
his brotherhood with the people on the team and even
the new people that we're getting to know and have
over time we've been getting to know. And I have
a whole bunch of new weapons. I think coach Lou,
You've an amazing coaches explosive offense, and this offense can

(03:05):
definitely be explosive, and people have seen that at his
previous tenure at his other schools. But I think just
the offense and coach Lou and his standards and how
how they approach the game, I felt like super exciting
when I made my decision to come here ultimately to
stay last year. I just loved pitch and the whole
coach stuff that we have and really believe in them
and they believe in me. So jaja.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Every time we hear the word culture, there's a lot
of times where it's it's a coach that's saying it.
For you, what what's what is the from a player perspective,
what is that culture that you're referring to, and just
how important is that? I mean, again, you hear a
lot of coaches talk about that. That's a word that
they use a lot. But from your perspective, what is culture?

(03:48):
And what is that culture at San Diego State?

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I mean just the standard of how we how we
come in and play football and the brotherwood brotherhood that
we have with each other. Knowing that the people on
the team that any I can reach out to anybody
at any certain time, that when we step out on
the field, that we know each other is more than
just that's my teammate, like that's my brother. And the
same thing with the coaches goes. And also just the

(04:13):
standards we uphold ourselves too, to maximize our potential on
the field, just every day, throughout practice, throughout meetings and
even extra just the overall standard and know the overall
goal that we have is to be the best team
in our new conference at Part twelve and win as
many games as possible.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
San Diego State starting quarterback with us right now against
spring football underway on the MESA. They'll have a spring
game coming up May second on campus at San Diego State.
A year ago, you were in the same quarterback room
as Bert Emanuel junior. But now Bert transitions to receiver.
I think you've touched on this before. I mean you
you guys obviously have a very strong relationship. What's it

(04:51):
like now seeing him be developed as a receiver and
what could he mean to this football team in twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Six, Absolutely, and people got to see the small glimpse
in North Texas and he's an explosive athlete. I think
Barry's making a great transition, and every day that we
go out there and practice, he's out there doing something new,
and he's a he's a freak athlete. He's he's going
to be a great addition to our receiver and he's
gonna be a great asset in this offense. Definitely, And

(05:21):
we got a great Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
I cut you off there, Jadon, go ahead, finish off,
Finish off what you were saying.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
You know, I was just gonna say that we have
a phenomenal relationship and him being able to see the
game as the previous quarterback and now go out there
and apply his receiver rules is going to be amazing
for us to see this this fall.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Jayden Denegal, who's joining us here on Schaeffer and Slee,
what appreciate him joining us? As always, I'm curious to
kind of get your thoughts here. There's a lot of
I think what Sewn Lewis is trying to build here
for San Diego and obviously for the San Diego State
football program. I'm sure there's a lot of San Diegans
who are tuned in right now. Maybe they haven't come

(06:00):
out and caught a game, a San Diego State football game.
They haven't came out to snap Dragon Stadium.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Ken.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
For those who are out there, can you give them
a little bit of a preview of what you think
this upcoming season is going to be like and just
how important it's going to be to have their their
backing and as many San Diegans in the stands.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Absolutely, I think it's very important for anybody in San
Diego that's a fan of football to come out and
check out the astics. I think you're going to see
an explosive offense and a very aggressive and violent defense
out there. Our goal this year is to win a
pack those championship, just like it was last year, to
win in the Mount West. So yeah, I definitely encourage

(06:40):
all fans to come out and just enjoy the show.
I mean, we're gonna We're definitely gonna put on a
show this season. So that's the mostly I say, I
want all fans to come out and just catch a
game and you'll see and it definitely helps seeing snap
Dragon fool. So we definitely want to encourage all fans
to come out and help us pack the stadium and
help was on some games.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Jane.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
You've obviously been through springs football a lot, whether it
was at Michigan or now at San Diego State. How
important is this time of year for you know, forming
some of these bonds or working with even some of
the new coaches coaches on staff, Like, what does this
time of the season represent for you as you turn
your attention towards the fall.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Absolutely, this is extremely important. It's setting the foundation for
how we're going to go into summer, summer workouts, and
eventually fall camp. I mean it's just teaching all the
new guys the scheme and all the new coaches, teaching
these new assets that they have, whether it be defense
or offense, and just audentally getting timing down, offensive linemen,

(07:41):
getting their hands and their techniques right. Just setting the
foundations for summer ball when we ramp it up, back
in the condition and getting back in the weight room,
and then fall camp eventually when it's final push the season.
So this spring has been amazing and just being out
here with all these new pieces and new guys, it's
just been extremely important to us and it's going to
continue to be and produce. Being out You're getting better

(08:03):
that though.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
It is finally what I wanted to ask is, And
you've been back home obviously now for for a year
plus since since coming back from Michigan. What is it
like to be around family and friends. I know it's
a couple hours away obviously where you are from, but
what's it like being back in southern California after spending
time away?

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Absolutely, the amazing weather is definitely a huge plus, but
also being close to my my mom and dad is
about two hours away, and then a lot of my
family being able to come out to every game. My
mom and my dad were able to make every game
last year, so that's huge to me for them to
be able to come out there and see me and
support me. And yeah, I love I love san Diego.

(08:42):
San Diego is the best.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
A lot of people feel the same way. A lot
of our listeners do. Jane, appreciate you taking time for us.
We're excited to see you this fall and may second
at the spring game there on the Mace as well.
But thanks for doing it today.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Thank you so.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Much, and thank you Jed.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
There we go, Jane and Donegal. San Diego is starting quarterback.
For those that aren't fully aware, Jayden transfers in from Michigan.
He won a national championship under Jim Harbaugh. He was
the backup quarterback. To remind me J. J McCarty. JJ McCarthy, who,
of course is you know, highly sold after quarterback ends
up with the Minnesota Vikings started for a good portion

(09:19):
of last year. So he's a really unique player in
terms of like you're learning under the you're learning under
Jim Harbaugh and JJ McCarthy. You're the understudy there and
then you come back home. You're out of La County
or the region Apple Valley and you get a chance
here to play for Sean Lewis. And I thought he
did a lot of good things last year, and now
I think this like the ceiling is exciting much higher.

(09:41):
You know, second year that's exciting. Second year that's exciting.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
And Sean listen and Sean Lewis has he's putting together
a product. Like as much as we've talked about San
Diego State basketball, obviously there's a there's a void in
football and his best San Diego State can. Of course,
we will never be an NFL team, but they could
do their best they can to try to fill in
that void. And like he was talking about, I wanted

(10:04):
him to tell it give us a little bit of
pitch why San Diego should come out. They should, but
they should. That that's you know, I'm looking forward when
we do get to the season because I do think
we have a responsibility to an extent to just come
out there and support. I get it. If they're two
and seven, that's fine, completely understand that year at home.
That's my point. My point is that and if they're
seven and two or the season gets off, well, let's

(10:26):
just let's make sure we're supporting any of these just
like we've done with the San Diego Wave SDFC when
they're playing well. Obviously I don't have to tell you
about the pod race, but if the squad's winning, let's
go out there and support them.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
That's well said. All right, we're here until six pm.
