corner as the Kraken looked to follow up quite the
act on Saturday when they beat the Calgary Flames in
a landmark start for a new rookie goaltender.

So a big congratulations to dk Coco, who not only
earned his first career NHL went but nearly sealed it
with a potential highlight reel play for the Ages attempting
an empty net goal. And of course joking after the
game he would try to score one before Joey the
Cord does. That will be interesting to follow, but Coco
is certainly an impressive first star effort on twenty six,

saves the and helping him out with goals from Freddie Gudroud,
Chandler Stevenson, Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberley, with Benier's hitting
twenty for the third time in four seasons, and Coppocaco
collecting his two hundredth career NHL point, setting up Gadreau
in period two to tie the game. The krack and
know their faith, though at the end of eighty two

games that was sealed up after the Kings beat Edmonton
shortly before puck drop in Seattle on Saturday. So for
the Kraken, they say goodbye and thank you to one
of the greats in hockey history and Ron Francis, who
began with the Kraken as GM back in twenty nineteen.
Last season moving on to the role as President of
Hockey Operations, but it was announced last week the Kraken

and Francis mutual le parting ways at the end of
the regular season. With that Jason botterol continuing as GM
with the Crack and also discussing an audit which will
be underway this season for the Hockey Operation side GM,
Jason Botterol will be in as the Crack and looked
for the most important answers of what's next after missing

the postseason. Now for the third consecutive year, Crack and
CEO tod Lywiki stop by our set back by the
Corps light landing in section twenty and discuss more on
the move and potentially once ahead in our one on
one conversation.

Todd, first off, thank and very much here for doing this.
And I begin with the concept of leadership. I think
to me it's a very fascinating element, no matter what
kind of walk of life that we're talking about. So
I think, for you in these years, for these kind
of situations, what does it mean to be able to
find solutions no matter where you work?
Speaker 7 (06:36):
Well, it's you know, today was not a fun day
because ron Is he came here and he was one
of the founders of this team. Effectively, he was our
first general manager. And as I have said more than
once back then, we were kind of sculpting fog. This
building doesn't exist. Our training center didn't exist, we didn't
have a team name, and so you're forever indebted to
(06:58):
someone who helps you put that together. And so you know,
we're super grateful. And you know, I worked with a
Hockey Hall of Famer. He played over seventeen hundred games.
He's member of the Hockey Hall of Famer's chairman of
the Hockey Hall of Fame Board. Pretty amazing guy. But
time does march on, and he just I think there
(07:18):
was a mutual agreement the time was right. And you know,
we think we got pieces. We've been ranked top third
with our prospects. We believe in our kids. It's coming
the Firebirds, our American Hockey League team, which is an
excellent predictor of the future. Again in the playoffs, and
you know this roster has talent. We went into the
(07:40):
Olympic Break in a playoff spot. But we've had a
rough few weeks here and it does give us a
chance to kind of rethink and say, how are we
going to get better? And I think sometimes when you
hit rough patches and a little bit of adversity, it
does give you a chance to rethink things and say,
let's how do we find another Dear, I.
Speaker 8 (07:59):
Think you made a verat there, because I think regimes
sometimes come with shelf lives, legacies though never die. And
I think in this case, the first ever Stanley Cup
playoff team will be attached here to his name. That's
something that you brought that that was very, very important.
So as time marshed on, what kind of became the
collective thought as far as the time was right to
make this transition.
Speaker 7 (08:20):
Well, I think that you know, there was a flip
and so Jason, Jason bottle Roll stepped into the general
manager role. Ron stepped into a different role, and I
think in some ways it was about giving Jason more
space and more room. So we end up going back
to the model that we originally had. And boy, that
playoff rum was incredible. This building, the roof almos came off.
(08:42):
But you know, we've now gone three years. Assuming we
don't went out and everybody loses out, it's we're probably
not going to make the playoffs here. And you know,
we owe the fans. I talked about that today, the fans.
I've worked for these fans now in two different organizations.
We started this. I was privileged to be with the
Seahawks and there were some great times there, and we've

had great times here, but I really feel a strong
obligation that we've got to provide our fans always hope
and a belief that those organizations doing everything it can
to win, and there are pieces here that we think
we can build up.

And it also seems as if a lot of fans
speak the language of what they've seen in previous teams,
even teams now here for today, And you mentioned your
time in Tampa Bay is a part of that. You
had a little bit of a shout out here to
George McFee in Vegas with this audit incoming here for
the offseason. Where do you see conversations going with Jason
with the ideas to move the team forward.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
Well, he's a super smart, capable guy, and he's classically trained.
He was a first round draft pick. He played in
the World Juniors and won three gold medals and it's
unheard of. I think he's the first hockey player to
ever have done that. His family is hockey royalty, so
he is, and he's been well trained. Before he came here.
He was in Buffalo. He learned a lot there. Before
(09:59):
that was an big run in Pittsburgh and before that
he one, got his master's degree and then served at
the league office doing hockey work. So he is he's
very very well prepared, and he has a clear vision
of what we need to do. We are going to
do some checking. We're going to do a bit of
a stand back and look at the organization and see
and you know, we're time is of the essence, we think,
(10:21):
because the off season is not off, it's actually the
on season and we're ready to get on it.

What have you larned as far as the kind of
culture that players crave in the NHL and the deliverables
as you mentioned that really helped make a top nots
team to take them even more to an E leade
kind of tier.
Speaker 7 (10:39):
Well, you know, as we began this, it was an
incredibly rough time. We were recruiting players in the midst
of COVID and you know, players who were brought here
on expansion were you know, exposed and came here and
left their homes and it was a crazy, crazy time.
We also add, you know, some some interesting dynamics here
at the city this point in time, and so you know,

similar to when I got to the Seahawks, there were
some challenges in recruiting, and we didn't always get players
to come out and pay visits, but that culture turned
and we got it to the point where players are
so you know, they it's renowned what it's like to
play here. We think we have the best training facility.
We think we have the best arena. This arena is
(11:24):
one of the most beautiful places in the whole world.
We think we have the greatest fans, and I love
these fans. I'll put them up against any fans. And
if we give these fans what they deserve, winning, this
historic roof might get knocked off just one more time.
I mean, it's just the power of these fans is immense.
Speaker 8 (11:43):
I remember twenty twenty three when the playoffs happened, just
how many times I thought the roof was going to
be blowing off this place first round, second round, as well.
Speaker 7 (11:51):
But it's you know, some of this goes back to
having great ownership. And I'm gonna give Samantha Holloway a
shout out. She's been an incredible owner and incredibly supportive
from everything we've done to create this building, to create
our training center, to create an environment for winning, and
then the community works. She's allowed us to do with
Memoor Stadium. I just toured it as I walked into
the building here, and in about sixteen months, the most

beautiful community stadium in the land will open. So there's
a lot to look forward here and we're going to
have a prolific offseason.

You have seen the success up close of the Mariners.
You've been a part of the Seahawks and know what
their culture is all about. They want another Vince Lombardi
trophy as well. So I think as time marches on,
it seems as if there's a really really tight knit
feel for the sports landscape here. So when one team's well,
the team the next one over says, let's carry the
towards So how much does that kind of come to
mind with vehicles that you want to set here moving forward?
Speaker 7 (12:42):
Well, we have great organizations in this town, but they
all shared the same oxygen, which is amazing fans And
I know sometimes I sound over the top, but I
think that's what differentiates us from other places. The fans
are incredible, They're loyal, they're supportive. You look around the
jerseys here. These fans have been credible and all the
teams enjoy that. The storm the Torrent could play here

and so onward on behalf of the fans. Let's let's

a lot to look forward here and we're going to
have a prolific offseason.

You've been a part of the Seahawks and know what
their culture is all about. They want another Vince Lombardi
trophy as well. So I think as time marches on,
it seems as if there's a really really tight knit
feel for the sports landscape here. So when one team's well,

Well, we have great organizations in this town, but they
