Day off from practice on Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
So oh, we got a little bit more to recap
here as far as the Kraken and what they're trying
to recover from where we'll hear from head coach Lane
Lambert plus four Jared McCann after the Kraken fell to
the Edmonton Oilers nine to four at Rogers Place on Thursday,
setting a new mark for most goals given up by
the Kraken in one game, most power play goals also
(01:22):
given up in one game. That's four Lane Lambert Jared
McCann coming up in just a bit before that we
recap in this context, it's certainly a Knight the Kraken
had never seen before. They were facing an Edmonton team
playing as close to full strength as it gets, looking
for a shot of confidence, and the Kraken fighting an
(01:44):
uphill battle early on, found themselves down three to nothing
at one point in period one on goals from Conor McDavid,
Vasili Podkolzen and Leon Dreis Tidle, though the Kraken would
fight their way back into it. First off, it was
Ellie Tulvenen chipping in with a power play goal at
sixteen oh seven. After that, a new Kraken center was
(02:08):
looking to make his mark.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Here comes Seattle into the offensive zone of the high slot.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
As Winterton forced.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Off the puck now turned over in front back ahead scos,
Freddy Gadreau forces the turnover undresses Calvin pickered out in front,
and the Seattle Crackhead pulled back to within one twenty
seven seconds to play in the first three to two
Edmonton well.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
Freddy Gudreau showing why it's so important to go on
the attack on the on the fore check, and it
was Leon Dreichs title in the hash marks right in
front of his own goal that gave up that puck
to Freddy gadrou and it was a nice toe drag
move that he got skinnered to bite on, came back
against the grain, buried it in three quarters when opening.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
At Freddie Gadreau picking up his first goal in a
krack in Jersey a quick strike off the takeaway, and
he picked up his first goal of the season as well,
coming in nineteen thirty three unassisted. The Cracking right back
into the game down by one and nearly tied it.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Before the first period.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Horn on a shot that leaked threw goaltender Calvin Pickard,
but it's defense backing him up able to clear the
puck and preserve Edmonton's lead at the end of one period.
The second period, though, was where this one got away
from the Krake in Edmonton, scoring three unanswered goals in
the first six minutes, plus Matt Savoy shorthanded McDavid's second
(03:32):
on the power play. Zach Hyman as well at a
fifty three, all the while a rough night ending for
Joey to Cord five goals and fourteen shots, replaced by
Philip Grubauer, Jared mccannon chipping in with one more goal
before the end of the period before Edmonton pulled away
in period three, Conor McDavid with his thirteenth career hat trick,
(03:52):
sandwiched by goals from mattis yan Mark and the second
of the game from Matt Savoy. Yannie Newman finishing up
the offensive side of things at nineteen fifty five with
his fourth goal of the season, but the game already
academic at that point and the Kraken left searching for
answers after giving up their most amount of goals in
(04:13):
one game in franchise history, and Jared mccanno got his
first goal since returning from injury and more to say
after the game, it's hard.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
To remember because well, the goals that went in, but
you guys were actually in position to get back into
this game at one point and get that short handed
goal on what that looked like look like set play. Yeah,
I think we just got a lost look at the puck.
We know, I think I can do a better job
of kind of getting to that d man a little
bit quicker. So, you know, it's it's tough to find
any any positives from a game like that.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
You guys got some goals on the board, but I
mean defensively, it was very atypical game where what did
you see happening with the systems.
Speaker 6 (04:50):
This feels like we go one way or the other, right,
like we're either really dialed in defensively not scoring goals
or you know, we're giving up so six seven goals
and then you know getting guard our own as well. Right,
So it's it's frustrating. You know, we gotta we've gotta
dial it in here. We've got to you know, be
better leaders for our team. And you know, I think
it starts with you know me, Maddie and and and absence.
Speaker 7 (05:11):
Sorry, this is a team that it can kind of
turn it on offensively when it starts sliding like that
up as it to kind of keep that slide going
with m Dave and dry.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Settle playing there there.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
Yeah. Yeah, obviously they're very skilled players and you know
they've they've done it for a long time. They're they're
they're hard to contain, but you know, we gotta find
a way.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
You could perhaps to text some frustration from cracking head
coach Lane Lambert after Edmonton won four of five on
the power play despite the krack in putting up sixty
two shot attempts at five on five and seventy four
overall for the game to fifty three from Edmonton.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Here's Lambert after the game.
Speaker 7 (05:48):
Lane, we haven't seen you give up this many goals
for what? What? What was the problem with the systems tonight?
Because obviously something wasn't working. Power play, uh scored four.
We gave up a shorthanded goal when the score was
three too, and we had an opportunity to get back
into the game because we're not aware of, you know,
somebody behind us, and it ends up in a breakaway
(06:13):
mistakes and I didn't think our goaltending was great tonight.
So if you add it all up, it equals nine.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
What do you say to the team after a game
like this?
Speaker 7 (06:24):
Nothing?
Speaker 6 (06:26):
When this was obviously an uncharacteristic effort defensively, are there
details of execution that you feel like we're noticeably missing
or off?
Speaker 7 (06:34):
There was in the first period. We're a little slow
to close. You know, they've got a good offensive hockey
team obviously, you know, so we have to be better
in that area. And you know, once we once we
got on our heels a little bit in our zone,
started a snowball. And to be honest with you, the
irony of the whole situation is, I thought that was
(06:55):
that was one of our best offensive zone games of
the year. You know, we threw seventy some pucks at
the net. We had plenty of opportunities to score. You know,
we did some good things, which is you know, like
I say, the irony of the whole thing is we
we did some good things. We we had some positive situations.
So we have to, uh, you know, we have to
(07:15):
build on that, and we have to you know, we
can't give up nine goals. I mean, it's just can't
give up four power play goals, even though it's you know,
McDavid whatever, but not good enough.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
As you mentioned, you were getting back into and early
in the second period ahead of that seveal.
Speaker 7 (07:28):
A goal at the shorthanded. What has to happen on that,
on that on that sequence, I mean, on that sequence
really quick. Yeah, oh, you got to win the face off.
We have an extra man. If you don't win the
face off, you gotta jump it. And we just can't
let the guy get behind us. I mean, that's just
just playing. It's it's it's plain and simple. There's some
awareness there, that's all.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
So instead of forcing in a practice between games, the
Kraken electing to rest and wipe the sleigh clean because
they're in a stretch right now, playing eleven games in
a tour twenty day stretch, though they will have the
comforts of home at their disposal. Leading us here to
tonight's matchup. It's against Detroit, where the Kraken are aiming
for a split in the head to head series, plus
(08:11):
also opening a three game homestand in Climbate Pledge Arena
where they have been successful for much of the beginning
of this season at six three and three, and they
have handled the Red Wings pretty well on home ice
in their young franchise history, with a two to zero
and two Mark Lane Lambert going with Jared McCann, Matty
Veneers Jordan Eberley as this new top line with Mason
(08:34):
Marchmint out of the mix.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Undisclosed reasons.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
He is day to day according to the last report
from Lane Lambert, but should he elect to keep this
trio together, they could make a major impact. Everley is
the crack and leading score head to head against Detroit
with twenty seven points in thirty two games. McCann is
second with thirteen points in his career against the Red Wings. Veneers,
(08:59):
though with less experiences, has been incredibly productive against the
Red Wings in his career with nine points in seven
games head to head. On the back end, Vince Dunn
remains one point away from three hundred in his NHL career.
One more goal or one assist gets him there. This
could be a matchup pretty ripe for the situation. He
(09:19):
owns six assists in his last six games against the
Red Wings. The Red Wings owned just one win of
their previous six games and lost a heartbreaker last time
out six to five to Columbus in a shootout, with
the Blue Jackets scoring two goals in period three, including
a game tying goal from Adam Van Tilly with one
thirty one remaining in regulation, but Dylan Larkin, he's their
(09:42):
main point getter in this series, and he's been hot,
owning points in six consecutive games. He's been their main
go to guy head ahead in the series, leading Detroit
with thirteen points in nine career games against the Crack,
and he's right now also tie for the team lead
in scoring thirty one points with Lucas Raymond, who was
arguably just as hot with points in seven consecutive games.
(10:06):
He's got nine points as well in that span. So
Detroit should certainly be a challenge, and the Kraken would
love to stop them in their tracks to get back
on the winning path for the first time in five games.
We have all the action coming your way seven o'clock
this evening. Airtime is six point thirty from Climate Pledge
Arena postgame at Tom's watch bar up to an hour
(10:29):
after the final horn. We certainly hope that you can
join us for kracking this morning. I'm Mike Benton, and
enjoy the game.
