Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the Kracking power Play.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Lord.

Speaker 3 (00:02):
This is the Kraking Postgame Show, brought to you by
Toyota of Olympia. Now for an in depth look at
your Kraken Hockey. It's the post Game on the Global
Credit Union Kraken Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
For the final time tonight, Welcome back inside of Climate
Plaid Arena alongside Alconiski. I am Everard fits you. It
was a four to nothing a win for the Edmonton
Oilers over Seattle. Multiple point nights, one goal and two
assists each for Zach Hymen, Leon Dreisidle, Ryan Nusan Hopkins

(00:37):
and Connor McDavid and for the Cracking Partner. The special
Teams will tell the story of this one. Edmonton two
for two on the power play, cracking zero for six.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, I mentioned that in the pregame with the Keys
here this afternoon, and uh, the Kracking have played a
couple of teams with top power plays in the league
and not done too badly four for five eighty percent
on their penalty kill for those two games. But today
was very different. Edmonton getting two of their four goals
on the power play. Going to perfect two for two
is a big issue on that side, and then the

(01:09):
other side where the six power play opportunities Seattle got
and they were unable to capitalize on any of them.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
What are you seeing from an analyst perspective on the
power play? I mean, again, is it as simple as hey,
they're not shooting the puck enough or is there something
more that you're noticing about the ineffectiveness of this cracking
power play?

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Well, I mean it's a couple of things. It's it's personnel. Obviously,
you've had Jared be caann't come back back in, you
have Jaden Schwartz out. Jaden Schwartz is a big part
of the power play. But it's not just today, it's
over the last half dozen games that you have to
we have to look at this. I think the other
thing is getting double layers of screens in front, double
layers of deflections. You know, sometimes you just get so
focused on it's going to be a pretty one time

(01:50):
or backdoor goal to be a power play goal. And
I think it was the fifth power play of the
game that the cracking came down on a rush. Shane
Wright went harder than that. His stick was there presented,
but there wasn't a pass because your mind is well,
we have to get set up, we have to make
two or three passes, we have to get a back
door pass. There's nothing wrong with scoring off the rush
on a power play, and I think that's part of

(02:10):
it as well, recognizing when the opportunities are there and
taking them. But the first few power plays there were
six seven shot attempts at each one, a couple of
shots on goal. You also can face hot goaltenders as well,
and that factors in. Stuart Skinnerd's obviously been struggling lately.
He was looking for a get right game. This might
have been it today.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Two fights in the third period, a couple of ten
minute misconducts, all stemming from that first period Mason Marchman
hit on Darnell Nurse. Those two were going at it
all night long, and I mean it sets up, I think,
a very interesting return on Thursday in Edmonton. But the
emotions and the physicality spilling over in this.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
One, yeah, I think so. You know, there's definitely some
frustration on Seattle's part is the game waned on and
got away from them. But that Mason Marchman Darnell Nurse
stuff started in the first period, and you know, I'm
okay with Mason Marchman being an irritant out there for
any team, not just the Edmonton Oilers, especially when you're
drawing penalties against a guy like Darnell Nurse excuse me,
Leon Dreisidle taking him off the ice for two minutes.

(03:08):
So if you're gonna play that way and you're gonna
take guys off the ice like that, I'm okay with that.
But once it's four nothing, I think it's it's the
late in the third period. I don't think it's necessary
anymore for nothing.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Kracking swept here on this holiday home stand. He lost
to Dallas on Wednesday, Edmonton here tonight, looking for some
revenge coming up on Thursday against the Oilers in Edmonton.
Al back over to you for your key takeaways.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yeah, key takeaways for me tonight. I already mentioned them.
Power playing, penalty kill both you know, not very good.
Let's just be honest. Zero for six in the power
play and oh for two on their penalty kills. Two
power play goals for Redbinton tonight. I thought Berkeley Catton
had another good game. A couple of shots on goal
for him. He had the breakaway in the second period.
He stripped Connor McDavid from the puck ones. They got
tied up in the middle of the ice. Both of

(03:53):
them went down one time. So when you're playing against
the best and you're competing, I think that's good as
far as your NHL development goes. Fourth was the face
off fifty six percent in the dots, So it wasn't
a situation where you weren't winning the majority of the
draws you were. It was even higher than that at
certain points. Tonight three stars brought to you by Mama Kay.
Third Star tonight goes to Leon Drei Sittle. He had

(04:14):
a goal and assists. The second Star also to Edmonton
Ryan Nugent Hopkins one goal and one assist. And the
number one star the man with the shutout, Stewart Skinner
stopping twenty four of twenty four.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Boo, all right, I'll put my fan hat all away.
That'll do it here fornight crack and falling forward. Nothing
to the Edmonton Oilers. Mike Benton back on the course,
light landing standing by to take you the rest of
the way. These two teams back at it on Thursday.
From the City of Champions, Edmonton, Alberta enjoy the remainder

(04:47):
of your Thanksgiving holiday weekend. And remember those leftovers are
good for about four five days mass freezom.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Though if you don't have, here's a freezom.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
But like, don't don't be eating refrigerated mac and cheese
on a little too far, Mike Betton, take us hof.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Hey, mac and cheese. It's good any day of the week, guys.
I'm just gonna know there to be different here in
this case. Well, tough day offensively here for the cracking
as they found offense sorry to come by, especially on
the power play where special teams to today made a big,
big difference and Stuart Skinner coming up with a twenty
six save on twenty six shots effort and the cracking

(05:23):
for the first time trying to bounce back from back
to back losses at home in regulation, and they had
a few days here to figure this out as far
as generating offense, because next time out won't be until
next Thursday when they take on Edmonton again. This time
it will be in a road matchup once again. Your
final score again Edmonton for cracking nothing and a lot

(05:44):
to cover still here from climb the Pledge Arena, I'm
back by the corps light landing in section twenty. Al
Konski will be joining us here for talking Cracking in
the postgame side as we have highlights coming up, our
scores as well, more reaction from downstairs and your reaction
on top of the that. So texas right now four
nine four or five to one and tell us what
you think the Kraken need to generate more offense next

(06:07):
time out four nine four or five to one. Text
us right now on the KJR tex line. Post game
rolls on. We're back in a bit. This is the

five six to three one four to join well on
a game like this, a krack and holding firm throughout
much of period one bus special teams playing a big
role to help Edmonton pull away and for the first

(08:46):
time all season, the Crack and trying to bounce back
now from back to back losses in regulation on home
mice as they have been held now off the scoreboard
for the second time this season and also for the
second time in three games. Final score here from Climate
Pledgerina Edmonton four and the Crack and nothing but the
Crack and record falling to eleven seven and six. They

(09:08):
stay at twenty eight points and Edmonton getting back above
five hundred at eleven ten and five. They have twenty
seven points on the season as well, and the Kraken scene.
Their run of back to back wins against Edmonton snapped
here in this game, with the season series all now
knotted up at one apiece again. Mike Betton with you

(09:28):
back for the corps light landing in section twenty in
time now for the highlights and this seavile crack and
drive to the next scoring recap is brought to you
by the all new Chevy Tracks now bigger and Boulder
Tracks is the perfect assists for all of life's adventures.
You had to figure the way the crack and start
out in games when they take a bit to dial
their game up. They had to rely a course on

(09:50):
terrific playback in the rowin zone, especially from this man
between the fibes and how what he factor early on?

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Here's pot goals from the back torfic save why Joey's
a card r on dry side on the right side.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Oh that was one of ten saves that to coord
turned in for period one as Edmonton carried a ton
of play as far as momentum back in the krack
and zone in the early minutes of period one, yet
the cracking bending but not breaking. They had a couple
of chances down the other way, but then a tough
tournam events Mason Marsman call for interference on the goaltender

(10:27):
as he got hit into the shoulder by Curtis Lazarre
and then his momentum carrying him into goaltender Stewart's skinner.
After that, the Oilers going to the power play.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Evan bouch Shard, Dugit Hopkins, Vic David backs up b Shard,
Lusian Hopkins shoots Tip Store. It's a tip Tech power
play goal for the Edmondson Oilers. Ryan Nugent Hopkins in
the left circle in past the cord Edmondson on top.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
Why I want nothing leading so tough to stomach there
for the Krack in side. Is Edmonton getting a goal
from Ryan Nudget Hopkins in this first game back from injury.
It is his six on the season coming in the
power play at eleven twenty nine. Evan Bouchard, Connor McDavid
as well with the assist, with the Oilers carrying a
one to nothing lead into the intermission, but the Kraken

(11:18):
they weren't without their moments as well to strike. They
by the way, had a five on three slip through
their grasp in the opening frame and had four power
play chances in the opening twenty one minutes of play,
but then coming up empty after that, Edmonton turning play
back the other way in the middle portion of period.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Two that anybody here has had it now lost it
three or two. Edmonston back in ricidle.

Speaker 6 (11:41):
Down the slot shot scores.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Shoot out of Edmonton seven thirty to play the second.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
That's an Edmonton superstar doing Edmonton superstar things as Leon
Drying Sidles scoring off the rush his fifteen goal the
season and also came off a turnover and transition play
just on brand. Oilers play the cracker we hoping to
avoid and that opening things up a little bit more
for Edmonton. Twelve thirty the time of the goal in
period two, dry settle from Andrew Manngapani and Ty Emberson

(12:15):
made it to nothing Edmonton. That lead pushed to three
nothing Laton period two, Zach Hyman getting his first goal
of the season for a power play goal. Dry settled
the nugent Hopkins as well with the assists on the play,
and the Cracket had some work to do, but Edmonton
pushing their lead even further and six twenty five of

(12:35):
period three Connor McDavid getting his eleventh goal of the season,
beating Joey to Cord short side at the left circle,
Hyman and Mattias Eckholm with the assist, and besides that,
a little more pushing, a little more shoves in a
couple of instances of fisticuffs as well, dotting period three
an emotional end to what was a pretty frustrating day

(12:57):
on the Cracking side. As a fall for nothing, he
to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, your final shots on
goal tally twenty six to twenty five in favor of
the Kracking, but again special teams playing a big role
in this one, the Crack and power play coming up
empty on six opportunities, including a five on three to

(13:17):
two man advantage, Edmonton going two for two on the
power play here in this game as they get out
of a recent skit, the Cracking finishing their record in
November at six four and three, with this regular season
series tied at one apiece. Stuart Skinner also picking up
his second shutout of the season, ninth of his NMHL

(13:38):
career on twenty six saves. The win moves this record
now to nine seven and three. The loss of net
to Joey Decord, who turned in twenty one saves on
twenty five shots. His record is now seven to five
and four on the campaign. Time Now for the course
lights chill us moments of the game. Cracking fans reminder,
you could win your chance to sit in the Course

(13:59):
Lights silver seats courselight dot Com forward slash Seattle Kraken
to enter, must be twenty one years of age. No
purchase necessary Corps light shoes. Chill celebrate responsibly well. One
bright spot here for the Kraken is a play out
of their nineteen year old promising Ford, who had a
great chance to break through for his first career NHL

(14:21):
goalback in period two.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Jordan Eberley able to send this one out through the
Neutrals on Berkeley Catton racing for Catton right on. What
a big save by Stewart Skinner. My goodness, Catton had
him dead their rights and Skinner.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Able to knock it away sixteen minutes and forty four
seconds of ice time two shansonnet as well for Berkeley
Canton and both seansonet were very very good looks. You
also go back and think the chance he had earlier
in period two is slicing his way through the Edmonton
defense off the rush, very very good plays that he
made with poise, made with assertiveness that show perhaps his

(14:59):
first NHL goal isn't too far away as well. Then,
with a Kraken down by four and period three, emotions
began to boil.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
On the right side, Regula tied up with ty Kartsha.
Now those two will shove each other hour another one.
Ty Kartshane out Regula in the right circle. Krtshay had
a couple of rights, Regula flailing wildly, ty Krtsjay connecting
up bag left that we're tough from Krtshay.

Speaker 12 (15:25):
What a bunch.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
As Regula recovers Cartshay comes.

Speaker 13 (15:29):
Across the top and then takes him down.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
A couple fights dotting period three. That scrap between ty
Kartsha and Alec Regula at the fifteen to thirteen mark,
finishing matters off and what do you know? These two
teams will face off again coming up in Edmonton this
next week. It's gonna carry over. That's a big, big
question here from this one. But the Kraken finishing this Saturday,
coming up empty offensively in what was an emotionally filled

(15:55):
third period and taking a tough one as well for
nothing the loss. That's the final score here at Climb
the Plage Arena that brings us to the big win
brought to you by the Evergreen Council. On Problem Gambling.
We go to Colorado where the Avalanche we're in position
to find another.

Speaker 2 (16:13):

it's second, it's the third point.

Speaker 6 (16:27):

Speaker 13 (16:32):
It's the seventh b of the game for the Nord
Each they're up by five.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
After all that time off, it seems like Gabriel Landskaga
is back to form. That call courtesy Connor McGahee on
KKSC Altitude Sports Radio as Landiskaga add two goals and
an assist Brock Nelson four point day and the Avalanche
moving their point streak to sixteen consecutive games. You heard
that right, sixteen consecutive games. They're a wagon. They won

Speaker 4 (20:44):
Well, a pretty frustrating day has come to an end
when you consider the offense here as a crack and
again fall four nothing. Mike Benton Alkiniski with you back
of the cors Light landing in section twenty again four
nine four five to one Texas right now on the
KJR text line four nine four five one and tell
us what you think the Kraken need to generate offense.
Next time out they face this same team again in

(21:06):
Edmonton coming up this next Thursday. This time that game
going down at Rogers place. Al Kaniski with us here
in this game, and it seemed as if five on
five al the Kraken bending but not breaking back in
period one. But again special teams making the big difference
here once more in the power play ad chances go
large just like Wednesday night, what stood down to you

(21:29):
here as far as the man advantage?

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Hard look at this game. Look at this game, Mike,
and and look not look at the special teams going
oh for six on the power play, going oh for
two on the on the penalty kill. That's both you know,
both levers if you will, you want to score your
power play, you want to go perfect on your penalty kill.

(21:51):
Both were perfect the opposite way. So that had a
big outcome in today's game. Why is the bigger question?
Obviously you lose Jaden Schwartz. He's a big piece of
both the power play and the penalty kill. But You've
got Jared mccamback, you've got Coppo back, so you'd think
maybe there'd be I don't know, a neutrality there. There
definitely wasn't, and you were missing seventeen on the ice.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
When you examined the five on three power play they had,
they went, they came up over four. It at about
roughly one minute and forty seconds of time to operate
the five shots on net as well. But the question
bears was there maybe enough as far as quality?

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Yeah, I mean, and you know, looking at those those
first period power play opportunities, I was keeping track of
both shots on goal as well as shot attempts, and
during the five on three there were seven shot attempts.
So during the first five five on four there were
six shot attempts. Both power plays had two and three
shots on goals, so pucks were getting through, attempts were made,
but obviously you weren't beating Stuart Skinner. Why who knows

(22:49):
Stuart Skinner could have had a good game here tonight.
He was looking for one of those I mentioned, Jayden Schwartz.
I think also when I was mentioning this to Everet
up in the booth is sometimes on the power play,
you get so focused on getting out of your own zone,
getting set up in the offensive zone that sometimes when
you cross the offensive blue line on a rush, there's
a play there, but you're so used to thinking, well,

(23:11):
we're not gonna score on the rush, we're gonna score
on setting up.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
For a goal.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
And I saw Shane Wright go harder than that there
in the third pier with his stick on the ice,
a quick shot passed to him. Maybe there's something there,
but instead we pulled up and we got set up.
So I think sometimes recognizing that when there's a scoring opportunity,
regardless of how it comes, even on the power play,
take it. It might not mean setting up, it might
mean off the rush. Who cares take it?

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Reaction opening up right now from downstairs, let's check in
down there with cracking defenseman Brandon Montor meeting with the media.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
There are a lot of power play chances today.

Speaker 21 (23:44):
Obviously, what did you make of the ability to move the.

Speaker 22 (23:48):
Play generate opportunities?

Speaker 10 (23:51):
Probably not much. I mean, I don't know. There's got
a couple of looks, uh five three, theres a couple
of bucks, but you gotta get one of those, you know,
theybviously their power play and they had too, we had zero.
So there's the game brand.

Speaker 23 (24:05):
And I appreciate you being willing to stand in front
of microphones and answer questions because this was a game
where there wasn't a whole lot to point to to
like sometimes you go, we lost, but there was stuff
to like. So is this a game you just want
up throw in the trash can and move on to
the next one?

Speaker 10 (24:23):
Yeah, you said it, not much like in that game
through obviously a team that's behind us, team that's you know, close,
but same division, and uh, you know we let one
get away. They're they're a good team over there. They've
you know, obviously been through a lot the last couple
of years, have experience, and you just got to be
out for those games. And obviously we were not. So

(24:45):
learn from that, forget about it. Obviously, take what you can.
But we got again, you know, got them in a
couple of days.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
That's Brandon Montor meet with the media. And I think
a good point in that where you want to take
this game and proverbially just throw it right in the
trash can move on from it. And the reason here
is this the crack and don't play again until next
Thursday in Edmonton, and that's a long time to get
a loss like this.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Linger, Yeah, you learn from it and you move on.
And you know, looking at the history so far this season,
the last time the Kraken went zero for six was
that six to one loss here in Climate Pledge Arena
to San Jose. That one, too got crumpled up and
thrown in the proverbial trash. And you know the last
time they went back to back with losses was Philadelphia
and Washington a few weeks ago. Again, you want to

(25:30):
nip losing in the button. When you turn a one
or two game losing streak into a four, five, six
game losing streak, that's when you're looking at teams that
probably aren't going to make the playoffs. And the Cracking
have been able to cut it off at one or
two losses this season. This is now the second time
with two losses in a row they cut this off Thursday.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
They're fine, pretty tight, and still pretty clustered right now

of reaction here to get to as the kracking coming
up empty for the second time now in three days.
How do you break this one down? How do you
slice it? What's your biggest concern? How do the Kraken
fix this offensively, you tell us four nine four five
one on the kJ R text line again four nine
four five one. We're already getting a lot of sponsors

(37:00):
flooding in right now, and we'll get to those here
and just to bits as again, I'm on Twitter and
exit Betton underscore Mike find us right there and again
plenty of reaction to get to a Stewart Skinner picks
up his second shutout of the season, and for all
the talk of the Oilers struggling in net, he found
a way to figure it out here for today twenty

(37:21):
six saves on twenty six SHOT's good time to bring
in al Kaniski right now, and I go right back
here to this. We discussed it over and over here
for today. Many of the issues the crack and face
I think al second period and on. It's a different
game and a different narrative. You're talking about if the
cracking can pop one or two in the power play.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Yeah, absolutely, And you know the the last time that
the Krack and saw the other's they won three to two,
and they were still zero for three on the power play,
and Edonton was one for one on their power play.
So a very similar game from that standpoint, but they
were able to find the back of the net even strength,
and I thought that, you know, coming into the game,
you obviously want to limit the league's third best power
play to his few chances as possible. You gave him six,

(38:02):
but this game was going to be one on even
strength if the Cracker were gonna win it.

Speaker 4 (38:06):
Fourth consecutive game. The Crack and have come up empty
on the power play, by the way, last time they
scored one was in that win on the road over
the Chicago Blackhawks on November twentyeth And we look as
far as who's out, Jaden Schwartz makes a big difference,
But as Lane Lambert said, there's always a way that
you can look into paraphrasing this to get a win.
So with him out of the picture, what was a

(38:28):
big difference here for today, especially for the for the
five on three.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Yeah, it was that the house area in front of
the net. You know, Jaden Schwartz lives in that area.
You know, whether it's deflections, whether it's finding rebounds, whether
it's that tapping goal on the back post. Others tried
to do it tonight, but I think they were missing
him considerably, not just on potting the bar play, but
even strength as well.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
They had five shots on net on that five on three.
But again, execution is always a big reason why you're
able to get one. Get to this could be a
part of the conversation again and one more tell us
four nine four or five to one and what you
want to see better and more for the Kraken with
offensive execution when they get back to play coming up

(39:09):
this next Thursday against Edmonton Lane Lambert, we're gonna hear
from him as well later on as we're gonna take
it for about another twenty minutes or so, all the
way to about roughly oh, getting past the bottom of
the hour here once again, as of the crack and
fall for nothing, first time that they have lost back
to back games in regulation on home ice, I first

(39:30):
go back to period one, al when you talk about
how the build up kind of felt similar, but the
Kracking were still very much in the mix of this.
They had to stand a wave back in period one.
Shots were five nothing Edmonton, and you think maybe that's expected.
Edmonton has got talent upon talent as far as skill,
as far as offense and getting Ryan NuGen Hopkins back.

(39:53):
Lengthen's their lineup. They've gotten David dry Sidal and then
the guy they call RNH the Kraken. First power play,
they went over on that first look obviously, but I
thought that first unit got good looks. The second unit
out there for a little less than half the time,
but weren't able to you know, I think generate much
as far as the first unit saw as far as
scoring chances.

Speaker 2 (40:13):
Yeah, and I think that, you know, one of the
issues that that the Kraken have been dealing with is
starting on time right from the drop of the puck
in the first period. I thought they did that tonight,
drawing those penalties in the first period, they getting the
five to one three, that's all a part of starting
on time executing. It has nothing to do with starting
on time. You want to go generate those opportunities and
then you have to go execute them when you do
get the power play chances. So they absolutely started on time.

(40:35):
They gave up the one power play goal in the
first period to RNH and they end the period won nothing,
losing down one nothing, No reason to panic. You know,
this team is used to tight games, but that that
second period, giving up two more goals in that second period,
not being able to get one on the board after
forty minutes of play. That's when things started to feel
like this might not be the night.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
For the cracking Mason march Ben had the spotlight on
him lot. Yeah, for this game tonight. There are a
couple of ways to go about this all. First off,
begin with a penalty that he was called on for
goalie interference. What'd you think about roughly now, two hours
after it happened?

Speaker 2 (41:11):
Ow wow, I mean I thought it was a bad call,
you know, and listen, referees are human. I love to
chat with them at all levels about different situations and
understand how they see the game. But you know, as
a as a forward like Mason Marchman who's played played
this game of hockey, when you get when you're going
harder than thatt, your intent is to stop in front
of the net or stop in front of the goalie

(41:31):
and look for a rebound. When you're going harder net
and you get hit towards the goalie and then you
get tripped by a second player at the same time,
it's hard to say, well, I couldn't avoid hitting him.
I was hit and tripped into the goalie. So then
to get penalized on top of that, that hurts. And
you know, if I'm if I'm laying Lambert in the situation,
I'm probably talking to Marchman after the game saying, hey,

(41:53):
you know that that call shouldn't have been made there.
So it hurt because not only was was the call made,
but I think that was the first time.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Here's one thing too, and then Lane Lambert told us
this even earlier this morning, and that penalties like that
you can live with because he's making a hard play
right toward the front of the net. That's the way
he wants this team to play, is the reckless penalties.
Maybe elsewhere there's careless penalties, hooking, holding where you're not
moving your legs, you know, penalties there about you know,
a length of the ice all the way from your

(42:21):
own net. Those are penalties which really disturb a head coach.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
Yeah, I mean, penalties like that are probably the only
penalties in the offensive end of the ice that you're
okay with from a coach downpoint. If you're going to
go harder the net and you get hit into the
opposing team's goalie, yeah, you don't want to take the penalty,
but you're causing some chaos, and I think that's okay
early in the game. Obviously you'd like to see a
kill there, because even as a fellow teammate of Mason Marshmans,

(42:45):
I like when my teammates go hard on the net,
so I want to go out and kill that. Unfortunately,
the Cracker weren't able to do that against the league's
thirst third best power play, and that put them in
the in the hole.

Speaker 4 (42:55):
Now, Mason marshmant late hit in the or a hit
Layton period on and did that really stir the horness
nest on the Edmonton side. They were in his ear,
Darnell Nurse wanting to fight for about roughly the remainder
of the game. How did that play a role here
for tonight?

Speaker 11 (43:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (43:10):
No, I thought that, Like I said, you're happy with
to kill off that penalty that Mason Marchman took going
to the net, and then he goes and draws a
penalty against Leon dry Settle. Again, if I'm gonna draw
a penalty on just about anybody on the Edmonton boiler
bene other than maybe McDavid, dry Siddle is probably my
second choice. So you put him in the box for
two minutes. So as far as I'm concerned those two

(43:32):
situations for Mason Marchman, I'm fine with play that way Thursday,
no problem whatsoever. I don't think it needs to continue
during the last five minutes of the third period when
you're down for nothing. I mean, you're gonna stand up
for yourself, obviously, but that's no longer gonna have an
impact on the game. Save that stuff for Thursday.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
And here's where I think you give out two ten
min and misconducts. I mean, that's just the officials trying
to keep a tight leash on this game. They don't
want to see anything really really ugly boil over late
here because he's two teams again do face off again
this next week, and as it's been setting this game
over and over and over again, hockey players of long
memories out.

Speaker 2 (44:08):
Yeah. I mean, did they have to give out ten
minute majors. No, But one of the roles of referees
is to manage the game, and I think at that
point it was not going to hurt either team to
send both guys to the showers early, So that's what
they do to manage that.

Speaker 4 (44:21):
So how much does this carry over emotionally next week.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
Well, I think a lot of it does. I mean,
you know, the Mason Marchman thing isn't going to go away.
It'll continue for the rest of the season. I think
that Seattle needs to be a little angry going into
Edmonton that they got shut out in their own building.
So that's got to feed into the game. And you know,
somebody said, well, Edmonton didn't have any trip to fan
to deal with tonight coming down from Canada. So you know,
now you got the first game after Thanksgiving done, Thursday's

(44:47):
a whole whole new game and I expect to see
a big battle from Seattle.

Speaker 4 (44:50):
Well it came. It became pretty apparent they were the
Oilers were preoccupied with getting after Mason marshmanth You had
that late first period hit and then Marshmen escalating it.
You had the dry Settle penalty for holding, and it
seemed as if the officials, you know, kind of let
the first one go and then the second one. Okay,
twenty nine, you're off the ash. We got to take
you off here.

Speaker 3 (45:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:10):
In fact, in fact, I was surprised to see the
crack and even get a power play in the third
period because I figured that after getting five in the
first two periods that that that faucet might be empty.
But they got the six to one in the third
and weren't able to capitalize on that one either.

Speaker 4 (45:25):
Five on three, I want to go back to that.
That could have been a big potential turning point. And
when you come up empty for a little under a
two minute span, that is a tough pill to swallow.
The Kraken went with Vince Dunn and Brandon Montour on
that top unit. You're looking to get shots and then
Ryker Evans eventually when that power play unit's gassed, he's

(45:46):
your point guy coming out for a unit number two.
So you're looking for shots. They had five and the
five on three, but did they get enough in the
middle you think, I.

Speaker 2 (45:53):
Mean, I think they had lots of shots in the
five on three, but if you can't score on a
five on three, you probably have no business winning that
high game. And in addition to that, getting four more
power play opportunities in addition to that five on three
to score, so you know, not clicking there, especially on
that five on three, was definitely an indicator for me
that maybe today was just not going to be the
Krackens day again.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
Four nine, four to five one, Texas right now KJR
text line and give us your thoughts on what the
Cracket need to do more as far as offensive execution
when they get back at it this next Thursday against
the Edmonton Oilers. They've been shut out now for the
second time in three games. Again four nine, four or
five to one. You tell us right now on the
KJAR text line. All right, one hear from the five

(46:36):
to ZHO three saying the Kracket need to score in
the power play and be more aggressive in the ford check.
That was the reaction here from today. Just too many
messy passes, weren't skating with the puck, Dumping it into
the offensive zone didn't work and took too much time
setting up the perfect shot. That from the five OHO three,
all your thoughts on that.

Speaker 2 (46:54):
Yeah, there's two reasons to dump. To dump the pucketo
the offensive zone. One, as you're at the end of
your shift, you spent the entire shift in your own
into the ice playing defense. You finally get out, you've
got to put the puck down to be able to
get five guys off the ice and get five on.
That's fine. The other reason is to attack and when
you put the puck in the on the attack, it's
because the other team is not giving you the blue
line and they're and they're staying up on the blue line,

(47:15):
which means they're probably flat footed, which means that when
you put the puck in, you have speed they don't.
You have to get to that puck first. If you don't,
if you lose that puck battle after putting it in,
you've lost every opportunity to get anything going offensively. So
the crack and we're not doing a great job at
getting those dump ins on off the rush back in
their positioning possession and getting things going.

Speaker 4 (47:35):
Uh for the five OZHO three, saying Joey Decor did
a lot of hard work to keep the cracking in
the game here for the first period, it didn't feel
like the rest of the team was really playing their
systemers skating full out here that from the five OHO three,
I will say this, when you look at players engaging them,
Berkeley Catton was your best player on the ice. But
how much more were you basically looking for, especially here

(47:58):
from the four group Bell.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
Yeah, I mean I think I'm looking for lots more
from the forward group. Again, you get Cocko back you
get get McCann back, you're expecting goals from those guys,
and unfortunately they weren't able to capitalize here tonight. And
talking about Joey Decord, Joey had the loss the other
night to get against Dallas against Dallas, and I thought
maybe Grubauer might come in tonight. You know, not because

(48:21):
it was a loss, but I just thought that he's
been playing well lately. You didn't have to win the
other night. I thought Grubauer might come in. I know
Joey Decord's not happy with the outcome tonight. Obviously it's
a loss, but coming into this game, he was nine
h six save percentage. He drops to eighty or eight
forty after this game, So a six percent drop or

(48:42):
more than the six percent drop after losing four nothing,
no goaltender is gonna like, especially when it drops you
below nine hundred. So you know, talk about special teams
all you want. Two of the four power or goals
were power play goals. But even Joey Decord knows he's
got better in him and he wants to bring better.

Speaker 4 (49:00):
The handle s bell Man five to two three, saying
that it's time to look at the trade market here
right now, and that from the handle on Twitter at
s Bellman five to two three, Phil checking in saying
need Vince done, Brandon montour ryker evans to take more
offensive chances and hard to do when defensemen aren't playing
very mobile absent from that, more grit around than that,

(49:22):
and try to get back to scoring more greasy goals
and also not to get Yanni Newman back in there more,
especially in the power play. That from Phil on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
Yeah, I mean Yannie Newman's got that special skill with
that one timer. You know, I think that the coaching
staff is looking for more out of him from a
two hundred foot standpoint. He's a big man. They want
to see him play like a big man. But you know,
that shot is absolutely a piece of a successful power play.
You've got to have that one timer. I don't think
we saw it enough to today in the six power

(49:51):
plays with the Kraken hat. It's just a piece that
you have to have as a threat. So teams respect
that and you see Edmonton do it with dry Settle.
Sometimes he shoots it, sometimes he feeds it back to
the middle and that can result in a goal as well.

Speaker 4 (50:04):
What do you think four nine four five one on
the KJR text line, what's gonna take you to generate
more offense again? Four nine four five one one more
reaction before we get to break here from Calvin, get
more young guys here in the lineup? That could provide
a spark. That from Calvin on Twitter, which leads which
leads me to ask this, Al, what does practice now
look like as far as trying to dial things up

(50:26):
and compete here to maybe see who gets a certain
spot in the lineup. You're coming up here for this
next Thursday.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
Yeah, I mean, I don't think there's any panic button
being hit here, just like there wasn't after the two
losses with Philadelphia and Washington. But I do think, you know,
a good day of practice, a mindset reset going into
Edmonton for Thursday. I think we're gonna see a very
different game on Thursday than we saw here today.

Speaker 4 (50:47):
That will be up next here for the crack and
when they take on Edmonton. Everett's gonna be ready in
the booth. Al, You'll be ready in the booth. I'll
be ready as usual back at Network Central and looking
forward to it. I appreciate your friend, Thank you.

Jordan Everley able to send this one out to the Neutrals?
Are Berkeley Catton racing for Catton right on? What a
big save by Stewart Skinner. My goodness, Catton had them
dead their rights and Skinner able to knock it away.

Speaker 4 (53:40):
Well, you give credit where credit is due. An impressive
right pad, say by Stewart Skinner. But Berkeley Canton maybe
a sign that his first NHL goal isn't two far away.
He had a couple of shots on net and two
very good ones as well in sixteen forty four of
ice time, but he liked the rest of the krackend
coming up empty offensively here for today in a four
nothing lost to Edmonton. Mike Betton with you back here

(54:03):
on Talking Cracking on Sports Radio nine to fifty k JR.
Let's check back in downstairs for more reaction. Meeting with
the media right now is Cracking head coach Lane Lambert and.

Speaker 21 (54:13):
The five on three obviously loomed a little large once
this game was over, as did the power play chances.
I'm just wondering on those power plays, did you see
anything you know in common, any common themes in them?
Obviously there were no goals in any of them someone.

Speaker 22 (54:29):
Yeah, you know, I mean we had twelve shots on
goal in the power play, so it wasn't like we
didn't get some shots or some looks. You know, Clearly,
a lot of times when you don't capitalize on a
five on three, it sort of reaches up to bite you.

Speaker 10 (54:44):
In a game.

Speaker 22 (54:46):
We had, you know, we had a good look at that.
We had a long time to have that five on three,
and you know, the the fact we didn't capitalize on
it was disappointing, you know, and certainly, like I say,
there there was a few opportunities that probably could have
went in the net for us, but it didn't. So
we just have to continue to work at it. You know.

(55:07):
For eleven here in the last two home games and
two losses on the power play, isn't isn't a formula
for success.

Speaker 21 (55:14):
Did the officials explain the marchmen penalty at all beyond
the beyond the call?

Speaker 22 (55:18):
Does it look like you got blindsided? Yeah, well, he
tried to explain it, but I think that you know,
after he takes a look at it, you know, probably
realized that that was a hard call to make at
a critical time. We can't afford to give that team
power plays and certainly we don't want to be giving

(55:38):
him free power plays. Certainly wasn't a penalty.

Speaker 30 (55:46):
And coach, speaking of Marchman, he was obviously getting challenged
there after his head on nurse and he kept resisting it.
In a way, it kind of got Edmonton off their game,
it seemed like as they were trying to chase him
around the ice. I mean, what did you make of
both the extras in the game, but also his kind
of resistance to accepting that challenge.

Speaker 22 (56:04):
Ah, well, I don't know that there was a there
was a resistance. He certainly, you know, he was involved,
and that's part of who he is. Part of his
game is getting under people's skin a little bit, you know.
And and so I thought from that standpoint, I thought
he was you know, he made an impact on the game,

(56:26):
you know, the physicality and stuff like that. I mean,
it's a national hockey league. There's two teams going at it.
We play them again Thursday.

Speaker 17 (56:35):
Lane, you talked about the disappointment of the power plays results,
but where do you feel like the power play can
improve to be able to improve those results?

Speaker 22 (56:42):
Well, again, I think that, you know, I think we
can we talk about it a lot. We can move
bucks quicker when we get teams sort of on the ropes.
When there's a shot and there's a rebound, we're too
slow to move the puck and therefore then they're able
to reset. You know, a lot of power. The goals
in this league are scored after shots and then it's

(57:03):
you know, pentally kills out of structure and you know
you take advantage of that. We've got to be quicker
with our decision making.

Speaker 4 (57:11):
That's the reaction from Krackenead coach Lane Lambert and very
good as well as the Kraken come up empty unfortunately
here for today, for nothing to the Edmonton Oilers. Certainly
there were shots on goal and the power play the
krack And were able to generate five on five. They
had fourteen of their twenty six shots come from that situation.
Elsewhere five on four, seven shots on net, five on three,

(57:35):
five shots on net, which leads the question what do
you do after that? Well, Lane Lambert I thought brought
a great point up and it's all about movement and
number one, the cracking had been a bit too slow
to move the pucket, as he mentioned, a ton of
power play goals are usually scored in the NHL, which
usually come after the first shot, which means offense comes

(57:56):
from producing a breakdown either in the PK system or
on goaltending as well. When a goalie is moving, it's
harder for him to stop the puck. When the pcha
is moving, it's harder for them to block shots as well.
So maybe one point of emphasis the KRACK and want
to work on potentially is getting more movement out of
what they're facing when it comes to the penalty kill

(58:17):
and when it comes to as well. A goalie who
was certainly stationary and for much of the season here
Stuart Skinner much maligned, he looked pretty solid here for
today in a bounce back effort and a big reason
why that he turned in a twenty six save effort
on twenty six shots. There could have been a bit
more moving to get him potentially off his game, but

(58:39):
especially in period one, when you give him twelve saves
on twelve shots, that builds up confidence and you can
certainly see why that confidence turned into his second shutout
of the season. One last check here of Twitter as
far as your reaction, Darryl saying with the KRACK and
he's looking to get new lines maybe and see if
the Shane Wright and Ty Karchay could get moved up here,

(59:00):
maybe even a call up potential for Jagger Fercus as well.
He's on board for that. Darryl, thank you very much
for the reaction, and also hear from Greg just saying
that he's looking for more improvement in the passing game
also with turning pucks over and they're looking to get
He's looking to get more more of an improvement here
from the turnover game and also from careful possession of

(59:23):
the puck as well from Greg on Twitter and x.
So the crack of now focusing for their next game
and it's gonna be a little further out now. That's
gonna be next Thursday when they take on Edmonton, so
plenty of time off here to rest recouperate it back
to practice and look for improvement from within. That's where

(59:43):
it stands as of right now. You can talk trade market,
but there's not a lot of names out there in
the trade market as far as activity and as far
as the crack and are concerned. A lot of this
is gonna get fixed potentially from within. Until you see
and hear more day or more names being down out
there and for the time being, they're looking to basically
try to find ways to work on solutions here internally

(01:00:06):
before they can begin to add from a trade potential,
which usually won't come several weeks more and more down
the road. Matchup three is next here for the KRACK
and is a take on the Edmonton Oilers so that
you can certainly here be with us for that next contest,
which will be over at Rogers Place this time Thursday,
December fourth. That is a six pm Pacific put drop

(01:00:29):
at Rogers Place five point thirty showtime. Your pregame show
is served up by Frostbrew Corps Light Choose Chill ever
written now on the call, I'll join you once again
