Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thanks Mike Lane. Obviously not the result that you wanted
in Edmonton two nights ago. I mean, where do you
begin to break this one down? We've talked before. Is
this a thing you chalk up to, Hey, these things happened,
or was there just something more fundamental about that game
that you want to address.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
I mean, you look at the fundamental side of it,
and you know the breakdowns that we had, the things
that we did, you know, so you know, you go
over those things, and certainly when the when the ball started,
you know, snowing the wrong way, it snowballed, and you know,
we just one of those nights where we couldn't keep
(00:39):
it out of our nat or penalty kill their power play.
You know, it was good, and you know, it's just
one of those games where I just thought that everything
that you know could go wrong kind of did go wrong,
but we were the result of having them go wrong.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Jordan Ebi this morning said that offensively, it was one
of the better games you guys played. You had your chances,
but anytime you give up nine, you're not going to
win those games. I guess on a positive note, what
did you make of the offensive opportunities that you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Had Well, yeah, I said that after the game. Even
you know, we did a lot of good things offensively.
We shot volume was there. We need to continue with that.
We had a number of good scoring chances and we
did a lot of good things. So if we look
at it from that standpoint and some of the things
that we've been talking about offensively, you know, they're they're
(01:29):
starting to do a better job of building those into
our game. We need to continue going that way. Take
that positive out of that game, but we need to
be better defensively.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
The guys had a day off yesterday. You've had some
time to reset and maybe stew or put it out
of your mind from that game a couple of nights ago.
What's been the message to your team this morning leading
into the contest.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Well, it's you know, to your point, you know you
have your choice. You can come in and you know,
grind it out yesterday. You can reset and get ready
to play tonight. And you know there's For me, it
was no lack of effort in Edmonton. I thought we
worked it just everything kind of that could go wrong
(02:14):
did go wrong. You know, we made some mental errors
as well. We can't give up breakaways like we did
and all that stuff. So you know, for me, the
message is to reset. I do think there's areas, you know,
in our identity that we didn't look very good in
in Edmonton, really in both the games against Edmonton. So
get back to that, understand who we are, how we
(02:35):
need to play in order to win games and tighten
things up.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Based online rushes this morning, it looks like a couple
of pieces have been moved around the line up at
least early on. It looks like you're going to give
alexiak the night off and bring Josh Bahura back in.
What do you like about this grouping here tonight against
the Red Wings.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Well, I think that you know, we're trying to create
a little bit more balance from a defensive standpoint. You know,
if if you look at at our team and you
know how we match up, we think it's important to
you know, to do that. And certainly you know on
the on the defense side, you know, Marha has played
(03:15):
very very well at the start of the year. He
hasn't played for probably four weeks now. You know, he
needs and deserves a shot to get back into the intermix.
You know, he's a great leader for our team. And
I know that Alexiak has played well for us as well.
But that's the decisions that's that's being made, and we're
(03:35):
going to.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Go with it. Red Wings, last time you guys played
on the eighteenth of November. Still fairly fresh, and they're
a team that's fallen a bit on some hard times
as of late. What type of game do you expect
out of them and how can you combat that?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Well, they're a fast hockey team, highly highly dynamic. I
thought in Detroit we weren't as connected as we could be,
certainly with with the puck and without the puck, and
you know, we we have to balance the want and
need to create offense with the risk of you know,
giving up defensive things and they transition to puck very well.
(04:12):
We've got to manage the puck tonight. We've got to
take away they're big guys. We've got to stay out
of the box. The power play seventh in the league.
Our penalty kill is league and oil here right now.
So we've got to try and you know, stay out
of the box as much possibly can, and then when
they do get power plays, we've got to take advantage
of that. And our power play has to help us out.
So you know it's gonna be a fast game, ye
