Speaker 1 (00:00):
I can already smell the buffalo wings that are cooking
inside of my cabin, and I'm excited for the pizza.
The I'm gonna be drowning myself in and I of
course gonna throw a ranch on it because of who
doesn't do it. It's an American tradition. Whenever you're watching
the Super Bowl. All right, let's get the show on
the road. It is a Space City Saturday right here
on sports Socks seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Cole Thompson rocking with you until one o'clock.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
You know the number seven one three two one two
five seven niney if you want time on in your Rockets.
They take the court earlier today two thirty tip off
out in Oklahoma City. They could be taking on the thunder.
Adam Clinton and Matt Thomas got the call. Rockets launch
pad starts at one thirty today, so you don't want
to miss. Of course, we have Super Bowl sixty coming
up tomorrow and the news of the from ber Valdez situation.

(00:45):
I know that many of you want to push back
on me at some point today. I'm gonna defend myself
seven one thirty two one two five seven to ninety.
Phone lines are open. Guys, are gonna be completely real
with you. I know that this is all about your
local teams. This is all about what goes on in
the city if you but when you have the Super
Bowl right at your television screens, it's less than forty
eight hours away.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
That's what this show is going to be about today.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
So hopefully you're strapped on in, you cracking open a
nice cold running, you are relaxing before we go witness
what is going to be a game that I don't
think is getting talked about enough.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
And I want your opinion on this, I really do.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Throughout the entire week Matt Thomas Show Morning Drive with
Dan and Cola, even the A team, it didn't feel
like anyone was really talking about what this matchup was
between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. They
listen nationally. To most people that are out the out
in radio row, there was conversations, but it was at
the same level as it was a few years ago,
like last season when it was Kansas City versus Philadelphia.

(01:44):
The entire week, it just felt like everyone was focused
in on Jalen Hurts versus Patrick Mahomes. Would the three
Pete happen, or would we see Nick Sirianni and Jalen
Hurts being able to pull the best out and finally
vanquish who was the kandasity Chiefs This year, it's just
kind of like, Okay, well, you got a ho hum
schedule from the New England Patriots with a coach that
has garnered a lot of national respect and a quarterback

(02:07):
that maybe has starting to figure out a rhythm, versus
a team that Okay, last season they went ten and seven,
but they had a quarterback that led the NFL and turnovers.
This past year, somehow, someway, those two found their way
out to San Francisco to play for the battle of
who is the best in twenty twenty five. And so
I'm asking you, quite literally, does this year feel like
it's a down Super Bowl?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Like?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Because of I feel as in a certain way, most
people aren't really intrigued with this game. And if you
aren't intrigued, I want to know what is your reasoning
behind it? Now, me personally, I'm always gonna be intrigued
in the Super Bowl for four main reasons. Number One,
I think it is one of the best days of
the year. You get to be around friends, You get
to be around family, You get to go ahead and
embrace people that you haven't seen in a while. You're

(02:47):
going out to go celebrate just a game of football,
and it's the grand finale of what we've been building
up for throughout the entire year. You know, you look
back at Week one or the preseason and all the
goals and expectations that you had for your team, team
where you started hearing rumblings about what a team was
going to do.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
And you said, nah, that's not possible.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
And at the end of the day, there are two
teams standing tall and you get to witness what hopefully
is going to be the two best of the bunch,
delivering time after time, blow after blow.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
It's like a heavyweight fight. Like that's what the super
Bowl is for me.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
And I get to be around family, and I get
to be around friends and people that probably I haven't
spoken to in a while because we have the super
Bowl party. So I'm always interested in that. Number Two,
I love football. There's football on the television screen, I'm
gonna watch it ninety nine point nine percent at the time.
You guys know this by now. I took an off
day quite literally just to go watch the FCS National
Championship because I got a free ticket in free launching.

(03:41):
Like when that happened, I was like, Okay, cool, if
I gotta go miss a day of work, so be it.
I'll call it even It'll be fine. I'll enjoy myself
and then I'll get back into the work settlement because
I just love the game of football, and so knowing
that this is gonna be the last time, because I'm
not gonna go look into the UFL. I'm not in
the Canadian Football League. Yea, if it's on television, maybe
I'll catch a quick order or two. For the last

(04:01):
time this year, I will be watching football, So I'm
gonna be locked in on it. The third reason why
I like this Super Bowl a little bit more than
I think others.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I'm a defensive stop. I love great defenses.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I think that when you have an excellent defensive battle
on the page, that's gonna win me over ten times
at ten. And to be fair, you have two defenses
that well, one is elite and the other one is
damn good. You also have two masterminds that are calling
the shots and leading the charge for their teams that
probably will be making one or two minor errors that

(04:36):
lead to colossal failures and ultimately open up an opportunity
for the other team to score.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Like that's what we got in this game. You talk
about Seattle.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Nicky man Worri is a freaking stud and I could
have told you that last season when he was coming
on over from South Carolina, like he was a dude.
And now he's delivering in big storyline is that was
he going to play?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Was he gonna miss the game? He's out there.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
You talk about a guy like Ernest Jones, probably the
most slept linebacker in the NFL this season. He was
top five and tackles he was top five and missed
to in a quality tackle rate, Like he didn't miss anything.
He was a stun in that standpoint, Boy, Mafe, you
thrown a London Williams, You're throwing a Byron Murphy. Hook him,
Ladies and gentlemen, like that's what you got on that side.

(05:17):
And then Devon Witherspoon, who has been a phenomenal cornerback,
Rieke Wollan who played at UTSA, some more Texas ties.
They're four quarters away from not being the reincarnated the
Legion of boom, But at least being a team that
we're talking about, they relied so heavily on their defensive
backbone to be able to set the standard and give
the offense time to recoop and recover when they made

(05:38):
a mistake. And on the flip side, you talk about
what you got with the team in New England, it's
a Mike Rabel defense. What's more do you want Texans
fans remember when he was down here in Houston working
alongside with Bill O'Brien, it was elite and the Don't
get me wrong, you lucked out and got a really
damn good coach and Tamiko Ryans who knows defense and
has turned this team into being the number one defense
in the NFL. But for the most part, you got

(06:00):
to give a lot of credit to what Rabel's been
able to do out and out in Foxborough in one year. Now. Also,
you got to remind yourself that they spent a lot
of money to bring in some free agents. They hit
on some guys like Robert Smulane and Harold Landry that
I don't think anybody thought it was gonna be. It
would be much to get Milton Williams to come on in,
and some of your younger players, like a Marcus Jones

(06:20):
ends up having a career season outside of being a
return man. Christian Gonzales ends up being a household figure
and a staple in your secondary and his emerged is
probably a top ten cornerback in the NFL. You got
Craig Woodson, the safety from Auburn who's a rookie making
a big time interception in the postseason, and Carlton Davis
comes on in on a three year deal and he's
so far living up to the bargain. So I think

(06:41):
that with that included, Rabel's been able to build a
good identity to where people are saying, okay, I'll take
you some seriously, I can at least look at you
and believe that your defense is gonna give me some troubles.
And it did.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
It gave troubles to Los Angeles, it gave trouble.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
To to to Denver, and Houston unfortunately had four turnovers
in the first half, all by CJ. Stroud that gave
them an eleven point lead. That's testament to them. So
I'm a snob when it comes to good defense is
being able to deliver. And I think that points are
going to be scarce come Saturday. I mean Sunday, I do.
And that's what is going to entice me, is I'm

(07:18):
somebody that is going to be fully invested into seeing
where is the error? Where is the mistake? Where is
the part to where the other shoe drops in lo
and behold, here comes Seattle poverizing passing opponent to get
into the end zone and get swim by seven. Or
where is the mistake from Sam Darnold that leads to
a Carlton Davis picked six and that ends up being
the difference of a four point winner loss, Like, I'm

(07:40):
all for that. And the fourth thing is this the
storyline in general? Think about this for a second. This
is the first time that we're going to see New
England versus Seattle in the Super Bowl since Pete Carroll
was at the one yard line and had the easiest
play call of his life and saying, you know what,
let's make things hard. Let's go ahead and try to
go force something into the hands of a hard o Lockett.

(08:00):
Because there's this cornerback by the name of Malcolm Butler
just sitting over there.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
It's not gonna be that big of a deal.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Dremaine Curse caught a ball laying on his back against
him the last time that we targeted his way, So
let's just do it again. You have bast Mode in
the backfield who has quite literally got you from the
five yard line to the one yard line, and you
said no, we're gonna go throw it now.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
It's a time for revenge for everyone in Seattle.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
They could have been back to back Super Bowl champions
after beating not only the greatest quarterback of all time
and Tom Brady, but also a damn good one in
Peyton Manning, who was coming off an MVP season with Denver.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
I think a lot of people forget about that standpoint.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
This is an opportunity for them to kind of exercise
some demons and say, you know what, we.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Get through, We get the last laugh.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
We were the more complete team, we were the more
dominant team. Oh and by the way, we did it
with the reclamation project. That's Sam Darnald at a quarterback,
which is the storyline that you all gotta follow. If
you're looking at it from Seattle standpoint, you do. Sam
Darnald was supposed to be it has been seeing ghosts
and no longer meant to be in the NFL, and
he's four quarters away from being the first quarterback for

(09:04):
that historic twenty eighteen class to win a Lombardi Trophy,
and he's doing it on his fifteen. This isn't like
Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson who's winning MVPs and has
won over the city of Buffalo or Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
No, this is a guy that had.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
One good year, kind of cashed in and ended up
still delivering a performance to remember throughout the postseason and
down the stretch that made he out of the number
one team. Now, did he have some help with guys
like Jackson Smith and Jigba and guys like Cooper Cup Absolutely.
Did he have a good run game and a solid
offensive line. Sure, but he also had to deliver in
the clutch moments, and he did so against Los Angeles

(09:42):
on a Thursday night football game. And he did so
against Los Angeles by throwing for three forty six and.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Four tuddies in the NFC Championship.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
So he's kind of like the hero and like kind
of the redemption arc the people who love sports need
to follow. And then the flip side, you have New
England and like a part of us, I think is
a society is saying as much as Drake may is likable,
as much as Mike Rabel seems to be the pros pro,
everyone loves him from a players standpoint, and as much

(10:09):
as this is not New England of Old with Tom
Brady and Bill Belichick running the show, there's still the
villains like they still are the absolute villains of the NFL.
And it sucks because if nobody wants to see this happen,
nobody outside of Patriots fans want to admit that it
just took five years for you to lose. You lose
your head coach, lose your quarterback, lose all momentum, and

(10:33):
then you go hit on boat after the second hire.
Think about it, It was supposed to be Matt Jones,
he didn't end up panding out. Then it was Drake
May Guess what he did. Gerd Mayo was supposed to
be the guy that we thought was going to be
in line to take on over.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
You missed out on him. You're bringing Mike Rabel.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
He's the guy, and it's just like, how are we
as fans just if the sport in general supposed to
be excited about that like we all just gonna be
hearing go oh, well, you know, it's just it's not
that new. No, it's still New England. And so they
still suck in my eyes, and they still are pain
in the pain in everyone's side, and nobody wants to
deal with them. So seeing them win this game, it's
just like a Really, we only had a five year

(11:12):
hiatus before the conversation started about a potential other dynasty beginning, Like,
that's what's on the stake here, So you out all
those four things together. It's what makes this game exciting
for me. And I might be alone on this one.
I might. I don't think I am, but I understand
that there are people out there who say, you know what,
this super Bowl, it'll be fun. I'll watch it because

(11:34):
there's nothing else on television that night, But I have
no rooting investment. I don't really care. It's more so
like background noises. I go ahead and fall asleep and
eat some Buffalo wings. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Give me your thoughts. What do you
think is the super Bowl being talked about enough this year? Yes?
Or no? Take a quick time out when we come back.

(11:54):
There is a way that I think of this super
Bowl could be exciting. There's also a way the super
Bowl could absolutely be a snooze fest. And there's also
a way to where I think the super Bowl is
gonna go. I'll tell you what I hope happens, what
I'm terrified of happening, and what I think actually will happen.
Comes Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara. We come back right
here on Sports Talk seven ninety, Space City Saturday Show,
right next face Saturday, Rolling right along here on Sports

(12:15):
Talk seven ninety, Cole Thompson rock with you until one
o'clock seven one three, two, one two five. Seven ninety
is the number to get in on question for you today?

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It's pretty simple.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
What's your excitement level for the big game come tomorrow
night between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.
On top of that, you got Rockets kicking off at
two thirty against the Oklahoma City Thunder and later tonight
you can go watch your Houston Cougar's take on number fourteen.
B y you. Okay, So I tease this going into
the break because I thought was really important. This game

(12:47):
has so many different implications in terms of being boring
and blah because of who is the two teams playing
in their easy schedule for New England, leading to guy
in turnovers for Sam Darnold this year, which, by the way,
it was a sound I didn't know until I looked
at this morning. I heard someone say it, and I
was like that, that's gotta be fake. No, he actually
with the fumbles led the NFL and turnovers this year.
But there's a lot of people out there saying, Okay, well,

(13:09):
let's see how this game could end up being.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Is it good or bad?

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Here's my theory of it. There's a way that this
game could go that would be really exciting. There's a
way that they get this game could go that would
be really boring, and then there's a way that the
game will go overall, I'm gonna give you all three.
So my hope, my fear, and then of course my
actual thought. The first way that I hope this game
goes is like Super Bowl forty three, Arizona versus Pittsburgh,

(13:34):
and I want to remember that game. It was exciting
as all hell, and there are so many actual narratives
between these two that really do work together.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
So for starters, let's talk.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
About how this game went in terms of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh,
I don't know how many guys knew this. Pittsburgh was
trying to go ahead and surpass Dallas and San Francisco
for the most Super Bowl titles that year, I mean
of all time. Remember all of them were tied at
five and then they end up going to uh I
think it was at that point they would have got

(14:05):
into their sixth. They were very unlikable for a lot
of reasons. For starters Ben Roethlisberger to say his name,
you already know the reasons. Why. Then you have the
Mike Tollin situation where Mike Tomlin was gonna be one
of the youngest coaches of all time to ever win
a Super Bowl. But on the same token, there were
people who were saying, there's no way that Pittsburgh could
end up losing a guy like Bill Cower and immediately

(14:28):
hitting with the next head coach in Mike Tomlin, because again.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Tomlin's one of the greatest to ever do.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
It, because if he constantly was getting past the winning record,
everyone's gonna bring that up for the rest of the time.
But you lose Bill Cower and it's like, Okay, there's
got to be a period of where the other shoe
drops and you just have a couple of really bad years.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Nope, picked up the pieces. Two years later they're in.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
The super Bowl. And then on the flip side you
have Arizona. I think a lot of people forget about this.
There was a reclamation project going on down in Phoenix
with a guy who had already became a reclamation project
and that that was Kurt Warner. Kurt Warner at this
point in his career was viewed as a full time backup.

(15:07):
He had just been working in the New York Giants
organization alongside with that Eli Manning, and he was bouncing
around the league. And he goes to Arizona just for
like one last hurrah, and he plays like an MVP
that year, and they have a really good young up
and coming defense and they have some really good pieces
that are very well liked, like Larry Fitzgerald.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
And you see the comparisons to the Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
It's almost the exact same quarterback getting a reclamation project
with Sam Darnold, guy that everyone seems to really well
like in Cooper Cup, solid defense, that's gonna bail you
out of trouble, just like you have a Ken wizen hunt.
And this game had a bunch of back and forth
blows and it was exciting even though neither one of
these teams felt like that they were the most complete
in the NFL that year. He had the big James
Harrison bumbling, stumbling ninety nine yard touchdown run right before halftime,

(15:53):
and it's like that's where the momentum shifted, and it
felt like this where Pittsburgh was gonna win. But here
comes Arizona working its way back at Raymond James Stadium.
Kurt Warner finds I think it was Akwam Bolden in
the back of the end zone, and then you had
the big drive by Big Ben where he finds Antonio Holmes.
They win the Super Bowl twenty seven to twenty three. Now,

(16:13):
that's my hope of how this game goes. That's what
I want to see in this game. It's a couple
of big time plays like a Nicky man Warrey interception,
or maybe get the Carlton Davis pick six or a
Milton Williams stripsacks scoop and score defensive touchdown to send
us in a halftime with this feeling like that the
game is very much still wide open, but that was
momentum shift. And then we get down to the wire

(16:35):
and here comes Drake May trying to prove that he
could be the next big time name in the NFL,
and he connects with Stefan Diggs or a Pop Douglas
or a Kyle Williams or somebody kay Shan Boody for
that instance, and they win the game. Or on the
flip side, here comes Sam Darnold, once again having to
prove to the doubters of the NFL, I still got
one more left in me. Don't count me out just yet.

(16:58):
And he finds Cooper Cup as they go ahead and
hoist up the Lombardi Trophy. That's my hope for this game,
and I could see it that way because both these
teams have so many similarities between those two rosters. My
fear is this game is gonna end up being a
lot like Super Bowl fifty three Los Angeles and versus
New England. Anyone to remember that game?

Speaker 2 (17:17):
You know, who was the halftime show? Who cares? Who
was the MVP of that matchup? No one cares.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Because if it was boring it was the thirteen to
three finish, and on top of that, it took us
all the way until the final six minutes for somebody
to get in the end zone. And it wasn't because
of great defensive execution. It was that Tom Brady was
missing wide open targets and Jared Golf was missing wide
open runs. They were eliminating their rushing attack on either side,
and it became a defensive snooze fest to where it

(17:46):
never felt like either team was ever able to.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Get off the mat.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
That was the way that I thought about that game,
and that's kind of how I think of this game
could go. Where Sam Arnold, who again still has got
to prove I think to some people they he is
worthy of being considered a legit contender for Reclamation Project
of the NFL. I mean, you could say that for sure,
but that ends up being a major issue because he
has passing three and outs and the run game is

(18:13):
stalled and you're not able to get Kenneth Walker involved,
and then they take away Cooper Cup and on the
flip side, Drake May has a blunder. And again the
guy that we set throughout the entire year was playing well,
but he got the benefit of the dow to playing
the easiest schedule in league history. He had very big
luck throughout the entire postseason run. It crashes in on

(18:34):
him against a super talented Seattle defense and lo and behold,
it's like a ten to three final and like, yeah,
you get into the end zone with a Kenneth Walker
touchdown run in the third quarter. But outside of that,
there's very little to talk about. Like that's the game.
That's my fear of what the Super Bowl will be.
And then nobody will talk about the halftime show and
the commercials will suck, and everyone's gonna be sitting there

(18:56):
and just going like why did I waste three hours
to watch a game to where I just could have said, hey, chat,
GPT tell me the outcome and I promise it'll be
even better than what I'm actually witnessing on television right now,
Like that's my fear for this game. And then there's
the way that I think of this game will actually go,
and it's Super Bowl fifty. It was the twenty four
to ten Denver Broncos win over the Carolina Panthers, And

(19:20):
the thing with that one was Peyton Manning wasn't great
he wasn't like at this point, it was very clear
this was gonna be his last game, regardless if he
went out on top or not. He was done afterwards.
But the defenses for both teams were such an underlying
tone that they were able to do just enough to
make this thing interesting. You get the big fumble against

(19:42):
Cam Newton and lo and behold, Denver does just enough
with a solid run game in your defensive performance by
MVP Von Miller to guarantee they get a fourteen point victory.
And I think that that's more so what we're gonna
see than anything else. Drake Man, I think is gonna
be a talented quarterback in the NFL for the next
decade plus.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
I think he's gonna win a MVP.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Some are going to say he deserved to win the
MVP over Matthew Stafford and the only reason why he
got it was because it was a reclamation Lifetime Achievement award,
like that was what some of the voters said. I'm like,
I'm gonna push back on that a little bit, but
I get it. He'll get his MVP at some point.
But I do think this is going to be one
of those games to where everything that we had been

(20:21):
talking about, everything that we had been bringing on up,
everything that had been discussed for the last several weeks
of what was New England, what was their schedule, how
many breaks, how many trip ups from other teams kind
of presented them an opportunity to be able to take it,
to take it to the next level. How many of
those things were actually New England being good or the
other teams being incompetent. I think that's like kind of

(20:43):
the biggest takeaway that they have on this one. And
if you have that happen, all you're gonna see is
Drake may have one bumbling mistake and Seattle will capitalize.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
And I think that is what happened.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
That Seattle is going to capitalize, whether it be a
pick six, whether it be a scoop and score, whether
it be a big punt return to set up inside
the red zone and Sam Darnald has a short field,
and they're gonna proceed a win, and it's gonna be
something along the lines of twenty four to ten, twenty
four to thirteen. It'll be a game that will pay
attention to and it may not feel like that. The
score of vindicates how much of a domination it is,

(21:16):
but you're right, bibles will tell you one team was
built to go ahead and HOISTU a Lombardi Trophy and
the other one kind of just came up short because
they got lucky with the matchups that they drew in
the postseason. Doesn't mean that New England didn't fight their
right to be here, because at the end of the day,
that's all that matters. But it does feel like right
now I'm leaning more so in favor of Seattle showing

(21:37):
on up, giving you a game that people are gonna
be paying attention to for all the reasons that this
team was actually built in year two underneath a great
defensive mind in Mike McDonald to take that next hump forward.
That's what I think this game is gonna be. I
hope it's like Super Bowl forty three. I pray to
god it's not like Super Bowl fifty three. I think

(21:59):
it's gonna be a lot like fifty seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety James, I see you
on the guest line. We'll get to you in a moment.
Take a quick time out. Let's talk some rockets, because
I know that you want to bring that up. Where
do you go after the trade deadline? Is it as
simple as just trying to buy out contracts that are
already expiring and gonna be free agents? Or are you
just trusting that one of your younger players is gonna

(22:20):
be able to take the step forward. We'll talk about
that much much more right here on a Space City Saturday,
next Sports Talk seven ninety Space Aay Saturday. Rolling right
along here on Sportstock seven ninety Cole Thompson rock with
Chew until one o'clock. That's why I was on till
seven o'clock. That would have been Frankie. You would hate
it here. You would hate working here with me. We'd
be non stop, just going at each other's throats. At

(22:41):
some point I'd probably run on over there and smack
in the face, so you'd at least come in here
and hit me. It'd be a fantastic time. One o'clock
is when I'm off today because we have Rockets launch
pad coming earlier at one thirty.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
Then, of course you have the Rockets with Adam.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Clayton and Matt Thomas on the call against Yklahoma City
Thunder at two thirty game right here on SportsTalk seven
ninety where you can watch on and.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
The Cougars take on the Cougars.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
I'll bring him Young University with aj Dan spell like
the number one player in college basketball right now, or
at least the number one player in nil in college basketball.
Tip off at eight forty five tonight, seven seven nineties.
Let's get to some Rockets. Let's get to the phone lines. James,
what's going on it?

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (23:20):
First of all, I want to get my prediction on
the super Bowl thirty one to twenty four Seattle. Okay,
I think it's gonna be at I'm sorry what I said.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Okay, gotcha?

Speaker 4 (23:29):
Okay. Now on the Rockets. You know, the pickup of
Kevin Durant was a good, good, good pickup acquisition. But
I missed the old Rockets of last year that pushed
the ball up, up and down the court. This team
plays a half court game. They don't hustle, or they
have in the last couple of games. I mean they're
getting out rebounded, they're getting I mean there you leading
guys wide open for threes and that's why they're getting beat.

(23:51):
You're just not playing defense. Even though you're not scoring.
You should be able to play defense. So I don't
know if it's just a combination of some players being
at or they're just as good as everyone thinks they
we're going to be And just want to get your
opinion on it.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Thanks James, I appreciated It's interesting because of I see
it both ways. I understand that last season you felt
like that the team was more physical defensively, which is
why they got the number two seed, which is why
they ended up going to seven games against Golden State
in a year where I think a lot of people
just would have been content with them making the playoffs.
They overexceeded expectations and it was largely due to their defense.

(24:25):
It was, but I also think that right now, the
reason why you had to make a change is to
get a game changer in the building, and that was
Kevin Durant. So it's hard for me, on one breath
to say letting go of Dylan Brooks and Jalen Green
in the process who at this point it really didn't matter.
The person that most people are missing right now is dB,
and while they should, letting go of him was the

(24:46):
only way to guarantee you were getting that X factor
in the scoring. The problem is no one has made
up for the lostness of what of what you don't
have with Dylan Brooks. And I think not having Fred
out there as well, because Fred van Vliet, whether or
not you expected to be a game differential, whether you're
expect him to do much offensively, just the leadership in
the veteran presence at the top of the rim would

(25:07):
have been fantastic, I think, just to kind of set
the tone to rest the way that hardship. And unfortunately
the other part that you did bring on up is
that you don't have anybody really taking that next jump Defensively,
Amen Thompson's fine, but he's not great at it. Jabari
Smith is not improved in the way defensively that you
want to see him go Alpen Shingong doesn't play defense,
and it's clear as day as Kevin Durantz not afraid

(25:28):
to call out his teammates, say, play some bleep in defense.
I mean, like, that's really where we are. Yeah, it's
frustrating the offensive numbers. It also is frustrating because of
I talk about this every single day from six to ten.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
You don't have a number three.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
You don't And I think that that's what really gets
people down trodden about this Rockets team because if yeah,
you're sitting in fourth place, yes you're still very much
in the hunt for the Western Conference title. And naturally
you were never gonna be as good as probably Oklahoma City,
at least in terms of the regular season, but you
could at least give them a fight with Kid on
the roster, and you knew that there was no limitations here.

(26:05):
I mean, let's call it as is. When you feel
like that, you make a move like getting Kevin Durant,
that should be a signal of us going for it.
That shuld be a signal of we're tired of dragging
our feet, we're actually showing on up. We've laid down
the check, we've gone ahead, and we've go booked the venue.
It's time for us to get married, because it's like
with any other marriage or a relationship in life. Like

(26:25):
you're sitting here and you're saying to yourself, either I'm
gonna eventually be with this person for the rest of
my life and I gotta put a ring on that finger,
or I'm just wasting everyone's time, including my own. And
so you finally book the venue, and you finally booked
the date, and you finally invited all the guests here,
and at the very last second, it's like, oh, well,
you know what, this one chick that used to talk
to me like seven years ago just likes something on

(26:45):
my profile picture. So I'm gonna give that a shot.
And that's you kind of kicking the plans on what
you had thought this year was to go ahead and
kind of build it to what it's supposed to be,
because the Rockets can to do anything of the trade deadline, nothing,
And I didn't think that they were gonna go out
and add in like a Yahnis player it They're gonna
be way too much of an asking price. And also
just the fact of what you know, Milwaukee wanted in

(27:08):
return getting a thirty one year old who currently is,
in my opinion, not playing up to his standard. Who's
to say that that's gonna work in Houston? Mkade Like,
everyone's like, oh, well, you know, it's gonna be a
perfect thing. You don't know that. I don't know that.
And it's not worth the asking price. It's not worth
the neck game. It just isn't. So I can't go
ahead and say that would have been the move. But
I thought, for sure you would have at least gotten

(27:30):
somebody who's a big You lose Steven Adams, that's a
big loss, at least defensively and in terms of minutes,
because Clink Capella should not be out there for twenty
minutes a night. Twelve to fifteen at most should always
be that line and instead you're having a turn to
him to be more valuable, or you're having to play
your small lineup versus your big lineup because you don't

(27:51):
have a Steven Adams out there.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
And there was rumors by some people.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
I don't know how much of the Rockets insiders truly
had the information on this that you at least were
gonna be interested in Andre Drummond, and Drummond I think
would have been basically a worse version of Steven Adams.
He wouldn't offer you as much defensively, the size would
have been like kind of a capable factor. But at
least it would have given you an opportunity to say
we're not wasting a year with Kevin Durant. The Kobe

(28:18):
White situation was frustrating because of again, Amen's not a
quality number three right now. He could get there by
this time next season. But today on February seventh. He's not.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
He just isn't.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
Jabari Smith is not living up to his expectation of
what you expected him to be when he signed his extension.
He isn't. And so now he's probably best studied as
a fourth or fifth option in the shooting, and the
numbers backed that up. And yes, every once in a
while he'll get him to drop twenty one or he'll
drop nineteen and there'll be a good night at the
court and I'll have a couple of big rebounds and
a block shot or two. But he's more so utilized

(28:53):
in that number three role in my opinion, I mean
that number five role. In my opinion, Kobe White was
a number one masker. He was the number three masquerading
as a number one on Chicago because if they needed
him to play the role of the X.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Factor, and that's not his best asset.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
But in a team like Houston or Sheng Goon's, you're
gonna be your number two or most nights, he can
be your number one getting a triple double and Katie,
when you need to give him some loan management nights
gets you fifteen to nineteen points or better yet, he
gets you thirty one points. He can be your number
one or your number two? Kobe, why can be your
number three? And then it signals that, hey, yeah, the

(29:29):
chick floriter with me. It's really cool, but I found
the person I want to be with. Let's go ahead
and get this done. Sign on the dotted line, I'm
yours forever. That's what should have happened. And the Rockets
didn't do that. And now you're constantly wondering with all
the other teams that did make moves, whether it be
on the Eastern Conference or the Western Conference side, how
much better are they after these trades than you. Right now,

(29:51):
I can say that there's one team that I think
got worse of the deadline that is going to be
in the playoff contention in the Western Conference one. I
think it's the Lakers. They didn't do anything. They did
absolutely nothing, just like you, and I think from that standpoint,
they're gonna fizzle on out. Lebron will end this year
once again failing to bring anything other than the Mickey

(30:13):
Mouse tile to that city, and it will be a failure.
But the Rockets also are probably the other on the
other side of it, because of you were promised going
into the year, it was gonna be different.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
So what's different?

Speaker 1 (30:27):
What is is there something that you feel right now
other than just the team is underwhelming in every capacity
when it comes to the offensive side. You can't play
defense to save your life, and you're allowing incompetent teams
to still hang around with you and teams that are
on your playing level to surpass you. Like the game

(30:48):
against Boston when Adam Platt and called it when it
called the Celtics, stabbronis like, yeah, you can go ahead
and say whatever the caller from Providence or an Island
mode about how they woke on up and said, oh,
now we're gonna show you.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
But like, I'm sorry, that's what happened.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
They came out at halftime, better prepared, more physical, more
dominant offensively, and they ended up winning by double just
because of it. And then throw in the Charlotte gaming.
You just looked lost And no, Kobe, why didn't play?
But he was here in Houston. And the frustrating part
is that I was screaming for two weeks. Let him
stay in Houston, bring him down here, lock him up,

(31:24):
get him on the team, have him be at number
three long and behold prosper but you didn't do that.
The Rockets, I think right now have a higher ceiling
than they did last season because they have Kevin Durant.
They also have a lower floor, which makes it scary
to where they're not going to be a guaranteed top
two seed. They may not even be a top four seed.
They may d it down to a number five. James,

(31:46):
I don't know that answers your question entirely. I hope
it does, but no, you can definitely tell it there's
a difference here. You can also tell that there's a
reason why this is not going coring to plan and
why frustrations are building up and they're allowed to be. You,
as a Rockets fan, should be absolutely frustrated at least
going into today's game at two thirty against the Oklahoma

(32:06):
City Thunder, because Oklahoma City is the team that everyone
is chasing in the Western Conference.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
They are the crown jewel.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
They are the team that everybody is saying you can't
compete with. And I'm not just saying you, I'm saying Denver,
cant San Antonio, can't anybody in the Eastern Conference.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
Can you all suck?

Speaker 1 (32:21):
Compared to Oklahoma city, your tearable at your job, and
none of you can go ahead and have any good
luck whatsoever. You just can't. And I think that today
you're going to figure out why some people that narrative
may be boring, It may be really frustrated here, but
it's not wrong either.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
You need to make some moves.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
You need to go ahead and continue to play in
the big time wedding because you said you were all
in mckadie, you were all fire, and right now that
fire is extinguished. It has been a very very very
cold February, at least when it comes to the rockets
and how they've been able to start off this month.
Seven one, three, two point two five, seven ninety take
quick time out. When we come back. I have to

(33:01):
ask you something. This is a really interesting question, but
what quantifies as you overstepping boundaries at a Super Bowl party.
I'll explain what I mean next right here on Space
Day Saturday, right here on Sports Talks seven ninety. Alright,
I think most of you are either going to hate
this take or you're gonna completely agree with me on
this one. But it is Space Day Saturday, right here
on Sports Talk seven ninety. Cole Thompson rock with two

(33:22):
until one o'clock seven one three, two one two five
seven to ninety. Super Bowl sixty kicks off tomorrow between
the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Tonight, the
Cougars of Houston take on the Cougar's at BYU. You
can listen to that game right here on KPRC nine fifty,
and of course at two thirty you have the thundertaking
on the Rockets. All right, Frankie, I want your opinion

(33:44):
on this. Are you excited for the game tomorrow? Are
you gonna be watching the game somewhere tomorrow? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Yeah, Okay, what's your plan for it?

Speaker 5 (33:50):
Well, you know, my family will do it every Super Bowl,
So I'll be over at my aunts.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
So your family gets together every single year at the
Super Bowl?

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Oh yeah, okay? Do you do you guys have a.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Rule about what you are supposed to provide, Like is
Frankie in charge of bringing the pops? Is your dad
in charge of making the seven layer dip? Is your
mom in charge of bringing the napkins? And then like
your aunts in charge something else? Like do you guys
all have.

Speaker 5 (34:15):
Like certain certain rulings that go there We generally just
like have you know, Hey, we're gonna throw it at
this house, and if we need to cook this or that,
you know, we just s divvy it up however we
need to.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
It's not a formal thing.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Okay, So do you are you guys bringing something tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (34:29):
I believe we are. I really don't know. Okay, So
here's my rule.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Here's where I'm at.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Is it wrong for you as a guest to take
leftovers from a Super Bowl party? If it's family, it could.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Be anybody, family, friends, doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Is it wrong of you to say I'm taking the leftovers?

Speaker 2 (34:55):
Thanks for hosting.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
I appreciate you coming and welcoming into your humble abode.
You got alloted to clean on up. I'll take this
from you and I'll just bring it back to my house,
not asking if you want the leftovers. I would not
make that move.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
See here's my theory.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
The second that you bring something into the house of
the host, that's theirs. Now, that is theirs, and people
are gonna hate this. Take Oh well, I brought the
seven layer dip and like only two people touched it.
Then you shouldn't have brought it for everybody. You should
have said it was just meant for me and my family,
because if it was small enough for us to be
able to handle, if there's chicken wings that are brought
on in, if I buy the chicken wings and I'm

(35:33):
buying a fifty pack host I'm having some people over tomorrow,
I'm buying pizza, and I have one of my buddies go, oh,
you know what I appreciate.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
I'm gonna take home these two extra slices.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
No no, no, no, no no, that's my lunch that
now belongs to me. Wait a minute, wait a minute,
But like I gave you ten dollars for it, you
ate ten dollars worth of pizza. That's what you did.
You came into my house. The leftovers now belonged to me.
I think that's a fair statement. At this point, a
lot of people are gonna go, well, I brought the thing. Well,
if you didn't bring it in a if you didn't

(36:03):
bring it in a disposable dish, we could have a conversation.
But if it's in some type of like tenfoil tupperware
crap like anything along those lines, that's now mine. Like
that is I hosted, I had you come over, you
got to use my bathroom. What if my pipes are
clogged up because one of you decided to go in
the bathroom for fifteen minutes.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
I gotta pay for that.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
The least you can do is leave me your leftovers
that you thought you were going to take home with you. Sorry.
I think that is a fair accurate statement that everyone
should be behind, Frankie.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
I just do.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
I understand that people will go ahead and figure out
some analogies of well, this is a really important dishman. Nope. Sorry,
If it's mine, it's mine. If you bring it on in,
it's mine. Now you can ask me can I take
this home? And I'll be probably pretty nice, like I'll
be pretty much like, yeah, sure, I don't really care.
But if you end up taking it without my permission,

(36:58):
we got some problems. I'm just gonna go and slide
this out. And did you ask me?

Speaker 2 (37:03):
I don't think that's unfair, Frankie, what do you say?

Speaker 5 (37:06):
I really one hundred percent agree with what you're saying.
I think it's one of those things where it's like, hey,
like you said, if you're hosting and going to all
that trouble, least you can do is, hey, this is
my food. Now makes sense, It makes sense. You bring
it into my house, it's now mine.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Right. I completely agree because I can tell you what
you're gonna because and this happens every single time, especially
with my friends. They're bringing over like a twelve pack
of beer. They're gonna finish that twelve pack of not
leaving my fridge because they know the ruling. They're like, nope, nope,
if I if I brought it, it ain't staying here
like here, we're gonna we're gonna shot out of the
backyard at halftime. Not because if we want to, because

(37:45):
if I refuse to let him hold on to it.
That's the entire reason it is. In my opinion, it's
a very simple way to do it. I don't think
there should be much arguing when it comes to that.
If you want it so bad that you can finish it,
that's just me.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
Bring like a little snack for yourself, and it's like,
this is just my little thing.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
Right again, Listen, I'm gonna provide tomorrow chips, I'm gonna
bride some dip. I'm gonna have some I'm gonna have pizza.
I'm not gonna cost you anything. You you do not
have to pay for anything whatsoever. Totally fine with that.
When you leave, that stays, that's mine unless you're asking
me for it. If you say, hey, can I bring
some of this home? Yeah, by all means, I don't

(38:24):
really care. I don't think it's that far of an ask.
I think it's pretty normal to have that type of
conversation with people. Seven ninety. Let's get to Keith before
we got out of here. Frankie, Keith, what's on your mind?

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Dude? Hey it is. I don't know if you discussed
this already, but I'm wondering, why is it possible that
they didn't get drumming they need rebounding, and why do
they still have Drian Vanny Smith who hadn't even scored
five points in one game.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
I appreciate Keith, so let's start with the drumming thing.
I don't know why they didn't make an I have
no idea. I can tell you what. I'm frustrated. As
a Rockets fan. I think every Rockets fan should be
frustrated that a guy like that that basically was gonna
be a salary dump for anybody that brought him on in.
That would have been a great vow value addition to

(39:15):
be the replacement for Steven Adams, even if he wasn't
gonna do anything offensively, like Steven Adams wasn't doing much offensively.
But from a big standpoint, you'll take it. The Dorianfhinny
Smith stuff is really infuriating because of you think about
like a Kobe White trade that could have gone on
if you just gave up Dori Infinny Smith and won one.
Don't you end up walking away giving Chicago a better

(39:37):
offer that now makes them have to kind of bend
to you and give you Kobe White instead of watching
him and Mike Conley Junior who just immediately got waived
the second he touchdown in Charlotte. Wouldn't that be a
better offer to where you're walk You're getting a winner
in this Like that's just me. So I mean that
it's frustrating and so many different levels because it's one

(40:01):
of those moments to where you ask yourself, what was
the point of adding in KD when you're kind of
also just kicking the can down the road and not
trying to go all in now trying to be as aggressive.
And that'll be a question that Rafels don't want to
have to answer this offseason if and when the Rockets
don't end up going to the Western Conference Finals, if
and when the Rockets don't end up advancing past the
first round, you went all out to go bring in

(40:21):
a guy like Kevin Durant. It was clear as day
that Dorian Finneysmith was offering you little to nothing offensively.
He wasn't being that three and D deliverer that you
signed into a deal for. And you need to bring
in an efficient number three scorer. And it didn't happen
that way. It didn't. So now you gotta wonder why
did we not be more aggressive when it came to

(40:42):
making some of these deals. It's a question for another day.
Seven one three, two, one two five, seven ninety. We're
gona get back into Super Bowl conversation. But I got
a lot of heat from people this past week on
the fromber Valdez. Take that I had, I'll relate it
to you, and I want us to have a little
bit of a dialogue, a conversation. I think at the end,

(41:02):
I'm gonna be right. You can be right right now
and I will wave the white flag. But by the
time that we get to October next year, I think
I'm gonna be right. I'll explain what I mean when
we come back right here on Space City Saturday Sports
Talk seven ninety. I don't really care how everyone else
feels about it. I am excited for tomorrow. I think
it's gonna be one hell of a game. I think
that we are going to see some fireworks and one

(41:22):
play that will be the big talking point throughout all
the Monday show when I come back on the year
at six am. All right, oh, ware we go. I
remember two Spacely Saturday, col Thompson rock with two until
one o'clock. You know that number seven one three, two
one two five seven ninety. If you want time on in.
I got some more takes that I want to get
to about the Super Bowl. I think there's some things
that we can bring out when it comes to the

(41:42):
overall matchup moving forward, but I do want to focus
in on one thing. Oh before that, though, just reminder
we have an early Rockets launch pad today that comes
on at one thirty because we got the game at
two thirty out in Oklahoma City. Thunder Takes on the Rockets,
Adam Clinton, Matt Thomas on the call. You can listen
to it right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. You
can also turn on KPRC tonight to listen to the

(42:05):
Cougars of Houston take on the fourteenth Rand Cougars at
Brigham Young University seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. Okay, So last week I got a heaping
load of fan mail or a fan hate and personal
attacks on my critique when it came to the Fron

(42:26):
Bravaldez deal. So Framber had not signed anywhere at the
time when I said, bring them back on a one year,
twenty three million dollar deal. If you can go ahead
and make something along those lines work, I'm all in,
because let's just start off with this. Nobody knew where
he was going, Like when you saw the news on
Wednesday that he had signed a three year, one hundred

(42:47):
and eighteen million dollar contract thirty eight million AAV to
go to the Tigers, like like the Tigers of all places,
like like nobody brought them up throughout the entire negotiation process.
Like I heard the Mets, I heard the Orioles, I
heard the Phillies, a little bit, the row I mean,
the Astros would have made some sense very end Like
earlier in the day, the Pittsburgh Pirates were viewed as

(43:08):
like a contender because apparently they're in on everybody until
this actually comes down to the market price that they're like, yeah,
you know what, pass, We'm not gonna pay that price.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Sorry, Like that's what it is.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
It made sense to why at this point, late in
the entire process of the offseason, to go bring in Framber,
bring him back for another year, and then he signs
a three year deal for thirty eight million dollars AAV
one hundred and eighteen million, gets knopped out after twenty
twenty seven. Okay, that's fine. Here's where I'm at. I
understand if you don't want to pay him the thirty

(43:40):
eight million dollars, I completely get behind that. That doesn't
mean that you're not gonna miss him, that doesn't mean
that he has impact on the team, is not going
to be resourceful. And I know what. The first thing
that's gonna come out of everybody's mouth is, well, he
crossed up his catcher. Oh he crossed up, Saysar Salasar.
It was a bad moment at that point and we
were done with him. Okay, that's fine. I completely understand

(44:04):
that if you want to go ahead and bring up
something that occurred on the field after giving up a
grand slam.

Speaker 2 (44:10):
By all means, use it to your advantage.

Speaker 1 (44:13):
I'm going to counteract you and ask you the other question,
how do you replace him? How do you guarantee you
replace a guy like fran Ravaldez. Now again, it could
be as simple as what we brought in tatsa Ami
to three year contract. It's a much more affordable deal,
especially on our end, even though he has an opt
out after every season. Okay, cool, you hope that that's

(44:34):
gonna happen. Now, I'm just gonna tell you facts. These
are things that I'm gonna stand behind because of that's
what the numbers stand behind. The first is, you do
not know if you're gonna get the durability that you
were gonna get with Fromber. You just don't from anybody
out right now. And I mean not Couna go to
Lance mcculors, that can go to a new guy like
Mike Burrows, that can go to Christian Javier, even Hunter

(44:55):
Brown for instance. You don't know if any of them
are going to be missing ample time next season in
a year where you're trying to go for it. Here's
what I know about Fromber. Fromber's gonna give you one
hundred and ninety innings per season. He's gonna hit an
ERA under three point twenty five ninety eight percent of
the time. He's gonna finish with a winning record, and
he's gonna average six point two innings per game. He'll

(45:16):
probably have two or three complete games. That's what I
know we're gonna get. So that's gonna be now your
number two in the lineup. You can go ahead and
put in uh. You can go ahead and put in
for a hundred Brown at one TATSI mai. If at
some point he ended up surpassing him, you can put
him in at two at worse, he'd be your number three.
That's a damn good quality number three pitcher. That's a fact.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
I know that number two. You were going to now
have to get.

Speaker 1 (45:43):
A pitcher to come on in that is gonna be
able to not only eat up those amount of innings,
but he's also gonna have that big of an impact
behind a Hunter Brown. When it came to Fromber, yes
there was the bad Frombert. Yes, I understand he closed
out twenty twenty five on a very sour note. He
did not have his best stuff. He fell apart in
the second half of the season. I get all that
I do, but it set the tone at the beginning

(46:05):
of the season when it felt like you look to
be the most complete team in the American League at
the time. Yeah, he was a big part of that.
Every single time that he took the mound, whether it
was in Kansas City, whether it was in Chicago, whether
it was here in Houston at Dyke and Park, he
was a reliable pitcher that was always going to be
able to give you quality innings. He may give up
a run or two, but at the time your offense

(46:27):
still was stable enough to go ahead and bail him
a little bit out of trouble. It's why when you
look at his zra in May and June and July,
he was one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball.
The third thing is is that this is a top
top twenty pitcher even with his bad clothes. Out of
twenty twenty five, can you name me twenty pitchers better
than from Bervaldez. No, you can't. Now the asking price again,

(46:49):
thirty eight million dollars if that's what you want to
go to, by all means I completely understand it, but
from a standpoint of just we're going to offer you
a one year deal over twenty three million, and that
was just the entire part of the argument. If he
didn't doesn't get a three year deal, people were still saying, no,
we don't want him or out here. Really, so there's
gonna be a picture on the market right now that
you would say is better than what is available with

(47:11):
from Bernadez. No, okay, cool. So my point stands that, well, yes,
I didn't think that they were ever gonna resign him. No,
I did not think that he was gonna be playing
in Houston. Again, I figured it was at least worth
the shot, and I gotta give credit for credits due.
I mean, whether or not I think it's gonna pan
on out, because I don't. Chris Silich and the Detroit

(47:31):
Tigers organization has made it clear they're going all in
twenty twenty six, and frankly, as an Astros fan, that's
what I want to see is the organization proved that
they were going all in twenty twenty six. They're not
letting go of terror skouoball like, and everyone's gonna say, well,
he won the arbitration case and he got thirty two
million dollars, okay, And maybe if the organization really wakes

(47:52):
on up and realizes we don't have a salary cap
moving forward, we're gonna go pay him whatever he wants.
And the problem is, and this is what we're gonna
see a lot moving for it. I think in the
big game of baseball, there's so many guys that want
like a seven or eight or nine year contract for
three hundred and fifty million. They're not caring about the AAV.
They're caring about the years of control because they want
to be able to earn that money. That's where the problem,

(48:13):
that's where the negotiations come on in. So I think
that when you look at the Tigers, the entire premise
with them is that they just don't want to pay
Trek Scuball for a four year I mean, for a
seven year contract. It has nothing to do when it
comes to the actual asking price was the AV If
he got forty two million, nobody would be shocked. He
just wants it more than just three years four years.

(48:34):
He wants it for eight or nine years, And teams
like the Tigers probably aren't going to do that, but
if they are willing to come meet him in the
middle at some point a five year deal with a
forty two million dollar AAV, it shows that they're fully
invested of going all in and that they believe that
right now their team can be a contender that is
competing at the highest level to go ahead and win

(48:55):
it all in twenty twenty six. And for the Astros,
when you have a guy like kozel Tub who's entering
the twilight part of his career, when you go out
and you bring back into Carlos Correa, when you go
make a signing like Tatsuya em to be that difference maker,
you know that you have Hunter Brown just on a
few more years of his current deal, Jermy paying you
a few more years on his current deal. I feel
like this should be the moment where you're saying we're

(49:16):
going all in and at least is worth a conversation
to have with Framber Valdez, not saying it has to happen,
not saying it's going to be a done deal, but
the amount of people who just immediately threw that idea
to the wayside and didn't even want to try to
picture a world where Framber comes back. I thought was

(49:38):
pretty ungenuine and very much illogical, because I think that
now you see him in Detroit, where it is a
better picture's park than Dyken, I'll give it that Kamara
Kamerica is. And he's also not going to be the
center of attention. He's not going to be the number one.
He'll be at number two there. But you'll see the
value of him giving you probably seven point two innings

(50:00):
to begin every season. On top of that, by the
end of the year, he'll probably give you around six
innings per game. I mean six innings per game, and
he'll still have an EERRA below three point three, and
he'll have over one hundred and fifty five strikeouts, and
the ground ball rate will be fantastic, and he has
a solid defense behind him with guys like Glaber Torres
and then got Dylan Dingler at catcher and Spencer Torglsen Offensively.

(50:21):
I think by the time you get to October, you'll realize, damn,
we probably could have used him. It would have been
nice to have him, because you have a bunch of
guys that you trust that are going to be a
part of your long term future. Run Al Blanco got
hay Him was Nesky. I believe in all of them,
but they're probably not pitching in twenty twenty six, and
we're being honest, and that they do, it's gonna be

(50:41):
at the end of the year because they just went
under they underwent Tommy John surgery. You don't know what
you're gonna get at Lance mccullor's. You're begging a lot
of Mike Burrows delivering the same way that he did
when he was out in Pittsburgh last season. You're hoping
that's at Cemi is basically the next version of Yoshinomo Yamamoto,
which even if he's not, if he's anything close to that,
that's at least a top twenty five pitcher in baseball,

(51:03):
and Hunter Brown can take on the ace roll like
all those things need to hit. And you still are
having some questions I think long term about where this
team is. I get if you didn't want him back
here because of what the asking price was. I get
if you didn't want him back here because of you
didn't think that he was a good culture locker room fit.
I can listen to that. I'll push back on one
of them, the thirty eight million I can't because I

(51:24):
can't afford I don't think I could see a team
like the as was paying thirty eight million. But to
say that you just were automatically ruling it out, that's
where you lose me. Because there any chance that you
can find yourself in a position to make your team
better and you're going for it. You can't rule anything
off the table. And it did feel like whether or

(51:45):
not I wanted to believe it. Dana Brown last week
made it abundantly clear when he was at the luncheon that, yeah,
Frober has had some conversations. You know, you know we
haven't talked to Fromer in a while. It I know
that he's still a free agent. That was a straight
up thanks, but no thanks. It on without them, and
I don't like when you go with that approach. That's
just me. But maybe I'm wrong. If I am, you

(52:05):
can call on in seven one three, two one two
five seven ninety tell me why you didn't or did
want from Bervaldez back or why I take what's arabol
about that one? I'm genuinely interested. Take a quick time
out when we come back, let's get back to the game.
I want to talk about just Sam Darnold in general,
because I really want to talk about the twenty eighteen class.
It's a very interesting way to describe them moving forward,

(52:29):
and maybe that'll be the way that we describe CJ.
Strodden Bresham in twenty twenty eight, twenty twenty nine. You
understand what I mean when we come back here on
Space Day Saturday, right next on Sports Talk seven ninety,
Space Day Saturday rolls are right along here on Sports
Talk seven ninety, it is Cole rock When you until
one o'clock seven one three two one two five seven
ninety is the number to get in on thoughts, questions,

(52:51):
ponderings of this year's Super Bowl battle between the Seattle
Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Are you excited for
the game or do you think that this is going
to be a news fast calling in Also, the Rockets
tip off at two point thirty.

Speaker 2 (53:03):
You can listen to the game right here.

Speaker 1 (53:05):
Matt Thomas and Adam Clanton on the call against the
Oklahoma City Thunder and tonight you have the Cougars taking
on by you the other Cougars out in provo, Utah
seven one two five seven ninety. The twenty eighteen draft
class is going to be really weird to explain to
people when you all break it all down. And I

(53:25):
know that you're probably saying, Cole, what are you talking about?
Why are you bringing up something that has nothing to
do with the Texans. Bear with me for a minute.
I promise you it's gonna make sense. For Starts.

Speaker 2 (53:35):
Texts didn't have a.

Speaker 1 (53:35):
Draft pick in the first round of that year because they
moved him to get to Sean Wattson the year before. Regardless,
you realize that this is gonna be one of the
more intriguing storylines, and every single one of these quarterbacks
still has an opportunity to make history. But we really
are looking at just four different tales of how we
got here to this moment, because let's just start off

(53:56):
with the fact that there are four guys that currently
are being viewed as some of the better names in
the NFL. Now, of course, you can go ahead and
say that there's all you know, prossive elimination and your
own virtual opinion, but I think for the general consensus,
at least in twenty twenty five, we can say all
for of these guys were top half quarterbacks. Sam Darnold
Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen. We can say that

(54:18):
I think that's abundantly clear on most parts. But their
stories are really interesting and really intriguing. So let's start
off with samdar Let's start off with the let's start
off with the you know we're gonna go backwards. Let's
startup with Lamar Jackson. So Lamar Jackson is the very
last pick of the first round. Basically everyone says he

(54:40):
shouldn't play quarterback, he's a wide receiver. Bill Pollian comes
out and after making a really before he made a
really dumb take on what's going on with Bill Belichick,
he says that this guy needs to transition to a
wide receiver. The Ravens draft him, they improve him. He
ends up playing really well to close out the year
as the AirPair to Joe Flacco. Then he comes on
in and he continues to only get better and better.

(55:02):
He's known as a runner, but then becomes better as
a passer, and he wins to MVPs and he takes
his team to the playoffs multiple ocasions, and he takes
him to the AFC Conference Championship game where it felt
like they were the best team in football, and he
comes up short, but still two MVPs. Very much on
the running to go to campon Nobody would argue with
you on that.

Speaker 2 (55:22):
Then there's Josh Allen.

Speaker 1 (55:23):
Josh Allen is the epitome of never quit and never
stop trying from the collegiate perspective, because he goes to
a junior.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
College, ends up balling out there.

Speaker 1 (55:32):
Still does not get a single d one offer, sends
his tape to every single school in America. One school
offers him in Wyoming, which is the rival to the
school he want to play for in Fresno State in
the Mountain West, goes up to Laramie, kills it up there.

Speaker 2 (55:47):
Drafted seventh overall. People say it's a reach.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
He struggles in year one, it does not get any
bit of help whatsoever offensively, takes a slight jump in
year two, and then by the time that he gets
to twenty twenty, he has become a top ten quarterback
in the NFL, constantly leading his team to the playoff,
constantly leading his team to the AFC Championship Game, finally
winning the MVP in twenty twenty four. This past season,

(56:10):
with no Blumar, with no Joe, with no Mahomes ends
up still coming up short in the divisional round, and
largely it's because of him, but still MVP quarterback, very
much put in the city of Buffalo on his back,
probably one of the greatest players already in Buffalo franchise history,
locked in with the organization long term. Then you have
Baker Mayfield, and Baker Mayfield actually ended up being really

(56:33):
kind of the first major star of the class. Comes
on in, finally ends the losing streak that was like
eighteen plus games for Cleveland in twenty eighteen, ends up
killing it in year one, setting the tone going into
year two, breaks the streak of the longest playoff drought
in NFL history, and wins a playoff game for Cleveland.

(56:54):
And we're not talking about, you know, just oh, this
is a team that you know, every once in a
while won't be able to deliver and they have some
downstad No, this is Cleveland we're talking about. It is
the quarterback graveyard and the factory of sadness that is
what resides off of Lake Erie. And everyone agrees to
me on that one. And yet he's the one that
finally ends the streak, has a falling out with downership,

(57:15):
has a falling out with the GM, plays hurt. The
next season, they bring into Sean Watson bitbitty bobbity boop.
He goes down to Carolina, struggles there, gets cut, then
is told basically, your career is on life support. Plays
out in Los Angeles because the Rams are done for
the year, has two days of actual practice and one
day of a walkthrough. Goes on in La balls on

(57:38):
out in that game, gets a brand new contract to
go down to Tampa. Lives up to the building of
being the heir apparent to Tom Brady, and still has
the Buccaneers in the playoffs nearly every single season. Reclamation project.
And then we have Sam Darnold and Donald goes to
the New York Jets. Most people believe he is the
most polished quarterback in the draft class, will have the

(57:58):
best career out of all all four of these guys.
Goes and sees Ghosts, gets Mono, struggles to go ahead
and make any impact, gets straight to Carolina, starts off
really well there, gets hurt, Carolina thinks he's a bust,
Goes to San Francisco, sits for a season, Goes to
Minnesota not to be the starter, but just goes there
to end up being a guy that hopefully will end

(58:20):
up painting on out beats out everybody for the starting
job because i JJ McCarthy gets hurt.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
Leads them to a fifteen win season.

Speaker 1 (58:27):
Then cashes in on a brand new deal, still leaves
the NFL and turnovers with Seattle. And he's the first
one to make it to the quarterback. He's the first
quarterback of this group to make it to the super Bowl,
and he's probably gonna be the first one to win
the super Bowl. Like, do you understand that it's just
so weird to explain this twenty eighteen draft class like
it is, because if there's so many players that you

(58:48):
look at from there, you're like, Okay, well they had
to have made it at this point, Well they had
to have done this, or you talk about what Lamar
Jackson has meant made to the NFL. He's a top
five quarterback and I don't think that there's much of
an argument there, but yet still he has yet to
play in the big game. Josh Allen, in my opinion,
is the best player offensively in the NFL. And I'm

(59:08):
okay with being wrong on that take, but that's my
own personal opinion, I don't think if there's any quarterback
out there that can do what Josh Allen can do,
and yet he's only been to two AFC Championship appearances,
let alone ever played in the Super Bowl. Baker Mayfield's
a quality player that plays with moxie, and I really
like his game and his attitude, but he's probably never

(59:28):
gonna be the guy that is ever able to get
to that next stage.

Speaker 2 (59:31):
And then Sam Darnold, that we.

Speaker 1 (59:33):
All called a bust because if he played for the Jets,
is now about ready to hoist up a Lombardi Trophy.
It's just really interesting the way that these stories all
pan out. You never know how your life is gonna go.
I think that that is probably the biggest lesson I
would take away if you're looking at it from any
perspective when it comes to the NFL, on how it
can tie to my life things. Just because if you

(59:55):
don't end up being in the right place at the
right time to begin your life doesn't mean you can't
go out. I hadn't fix it along the way because
Sam Darnold did not go to any winning location. He
went to the single worst team in the NFL that
constantly is an is known for its errors and its
magnitude of inability to ever have success. And he's the one,

(01:00:17):
not Baker, not Rosen, not Jackson, not Allen, to potentially
win a Lombardi Trophy. That's the guy that's going to
do it, that one. It's not about how you started always,
it's about how you finish. Maybe that's more so what
we need to have in this world today. Seven one three,
two one two five, seven ninety. If you wanted time
on in, I want to get Frankie's thoughts on this.

(01:00:40):
I want to get your thoughts on this. About the
Super Bowl? Is there a team that you should be
rooting for? Like? Is there one? Because I think there
actually is an actual reason. I'll explain who it is
next right here on Space City Saturday Sports Talk seven ninety.
Frank As want to let you know my mom texted
me and said, really sweet home Alabama. I think that
she's very appreciative that you're in charge of the music
today because of some reason, she listens to the show.

(01:01:02):
Whenever she does. She likes to comment on things, and
she knows that I would never do something like that.
So from her to you, thank you for I guess
making her day. I appreciate that this is basically a
Saturday with Cole Thompson, Cole Rockerts. You at a one
o'clock seven, one thirty two one two five seven ninety
Super Bowl sixty underway tomorrow catch the game, and then
Monday you can catch me and Dan Matthews breaking down

(01:01:25):
everything when it comes to what we witnessed between the
New England Pagers and the Seattle Seahawks. On top of
that two thirty tip between the Rockets and the Thunder.
You could listen to the game right here on KBM
ME with Matt Thomas and Adam Clinton. And then of
course tonight over in KPRC you can go listen to
the Cougars of BYU take on the Cougars of Houston.

(01:01:46):
All right, is there a team that you should be
rooting for in the Super Bowl this season? Yes, there's
always an answer for that.

Speaker 5 (01:01:53):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
I know for many people around the Texans, you're gonna say, well,
we're rooting for Seattle because of naturally we have the
room for Seattle. Yeah, I mean that makes sense. You
lost in New England, you lost to a team that
probably wasn't that good. You felt like that you kind
of shot yourself in the foot a million times. But
if you end up winning that game, somehow, some way,
you end up art now in their shoes, and you're

(01:02:13):
gonna be playing for an opportunity to hoist up a
Lombardi Trophy. Like that's the bottom line, and I get
to stop there. But it goes further than that. If
you were just say, fait, let's say that you're a
Pittsburgh Steelers fanilyming in Houston right now, or Detroit Lions
fani liming in Houston right now. I think everybody outside
of one team should be pulling for Seattle, and that's
the Patriots. Now. Why is that? Well, ladies and gentlemen,

(01:02:36):
let me just remind you all of the world we
lived in the last two decades. For those of you
who don't remember, Tom Brady owned the AFC. Basically he
was the king of all of the NFL, and Bill
Belichick and all of his minions of people ended up
terrorizing the Texans and the Bills and the Bengals and
the Chiefs and the Broncos and the Colts and everybody

(01:02:59):
in base If they ended up having a down year,
it was like you destroy the Death Star, like, hell yeah,
life is a breeze, This is fantastic. Ninety nine point
nine perent at the time, they ran stuff that's just it,
And then we had this beautiful thing happen and it
was called Tom Brady is pissed off that you guys
don't want him around anymore. So he's gonna go play

(01:03:21):
for Tampa and Brill is gonna have to be able
to win on his own. And they went to one
playoff game with Mac Jones the starting quarterback, and then
they struggled and then nothing went right, and then Bill
gets fired and then they're bringing Gerd Mayo, and then
he gets fired after one season, and he had this
young quarterback and you're like, okay, cool, maybe he wound
up being something. And here we are going into his

(01:03:41):
second season and he's back in the super Bowl and
New England is right there. And I'll be the first
to say I don't hate this New England team whatsoever,
Like they're not on the likeable Rabel's a very likable guy.
I think most people in the city of Houston would say,
if they could go back and make a move, they
would have fired Bill o'bri to keep Mike Rabel on

(01:04:02):
the staff because that they love rapes, and everybody around
the NFL seems to love rapes. Drake May is not
a bad quarterback, and his wife is really funny on
TikTok and she makes treats for everybody in the locker room,
like she's a great personality to be around.

Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
And it's like all the other people that you got
in there.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Hunter Henry at tight end and Mac Collins is weird
because he doesn't wear shoes unless he's on a football field.
And he got some good defensive players that have all
come on out and they're young and up and coming,
and they're not boastful, but they're humble. Like you don't
hate on the Patriots like this version or iteration of
the Patriots team, but it's still the fricking Patriots. And
you remember all the heartbreak and all the pain and

(01:04:37):
all the agony and all the boring blah you had
to deal with for years on end when it was
Brady and when it was Belichick and when it was
Kronk out there, and then get throwing the other tight
end that we're not going to name, and get thrown
the defensive side of players you get thrown all the
names of all the pieces that ended up winning Lombardi
Trophies and being a constant thorn in the side of
the AFC, and it's like, I don't care enough about

(01:04:59):
how much likable your quarterback is. You're still the villains. Like,
you gotta suffer a little bit more. You gotta be
like the rest of society. You need to be bullied
a little bit. And it's annoying that we're about to
potentially live in a world where just five years after
they said, oh my god, we lost the QB and

(01:05:19):
two years ago we lost the greatest coach. Oh look
at that, we hit on both almost instantaneously and were
right back, like, you gotta have a little bit more
pain and suffering come your way. You need to get
kicked down a little bit more. You need to go
ahead and be disrespected a little bit longer. That's just me.
And then on the flip side, it's very easy to
root for a team like Seattle because they're really likable

(01:05:41):
on so many different levels, like Sam Darnold has got
to be one of the best ultimate comeback stories and
perseverance moments in all professional sports. Because this is a
dude who quite literally had to start his career playing
for the Jets. Like, I don't even have to go
any further. You know the Jets. I know the Jets.
My best friend is a Jets fan. He lives through

(01:06:03):
that lifestyle, and he's miserable between the months of July and.

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
December every single year.

Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
And I can't talk to him because if he is
just such a pessimistic Delta Bravo at times, and I'm like,
oh my god, you choose this lifestyle. And Sam Low
Darnold didn't choose this lifestyle. He got thrown into it
and he was like, you'd be the savior.

Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Nope, okay, I guess not. Now you're a bum.

Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
And he goes he plays in Carolina and he doesn't
do really anything for Carolina. He's not the fault there,
David Tepper, Matt Ruhl, a bunch of other negotiations that
was really the fault there. But still he gets blamed
for all that and now he's a bust. And then
he goes out to San Francisco and it's like, well,
you forget that he's even on the team because if
he doesn't do anything. And then he goes to Minnesota
and he's told basically going to be a backup. And

(01:06:46):
then after all that, he ends up winning the starting
job because JJ McCarthy gets hurt and at the end
of the year they're in the hunt for the number
one seat. Like people don't remember this. He's lost seven
games in two years, and he lost four games last
season four and he got the fifth seed, and it's like, no,
still not good enough because you lose in the playoff

(01:07:07):
game to Los Angeles in sporadic fashion, and you're a
big problem with that despite the fact that we had
Cam Robinson starting as our left tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
I digress from all that.

Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
He goes into Seattle, he changes the way the team
is viewed in the public standpoint. He still has the
turnover problem, but in two of the biggest games of
the year, he shows on up, he delivers.

Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
He is absolutely as advertised.

Speaker 1 (01:07:28):
And then after all of that, you look at the
rest of the roster you're like, hey, this is a
pretty fun team. They got a young, up and coming
coach that seems to have all the moxie and all
the good energy and the attitude, and Mike McDonald he's
like defensive Sean McVay and he's good with players and
everyone seems to get along with him, and he's got
rid of the cancers in the locker room and he's

(01:07:48):
kind of rejolted this team with a new vibe.

Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
And then Jackson's bit. Then Jigba's awesome in the slot.

Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
He's like killing people left and right on the open
field with spellbounding catches. And Cooper comes on in and
he's like that cool old uncle that probably gives you
the wise wisdom and gets a lot of people to
kind of go ahead and rally the troops.

Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
And he's a part of the team now.

Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
And then this defense is filled with dudes that are
just super talented and there are people you want to
go get a beer with afterwards. And then I don't
know if you guys have seen the interview yet, but
like nick Eman, Worri's mom is like probably the funniest
lady of all time, and we need to protect her
with all costs.

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
And I need to see her son score an interception.

Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
Just so I can figure out is that gonna be
a legit reaction that we all get, like, is she
finally gonna have like the pure joy in her heart?
Or is it more so just gonna be like, Oh,
it's football, don't worry. He got a touchdown. Yeah, good,
good for myself. Like it's just like everything for them
is great, and like you feel like that it's finally
their time. And then the best part of all of
this is that this Seattle team gets to go up

(01:08:49):
against that new England team who, yes, for the.

Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
Most part, is still a likable roster.

Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
But I'll be completely honest, you have to remind yourself
of what went down back when these two teams met
the last time. It's the one yard line and Pete Carroll,
trying to get cute with it, decides to throw it
and send hand it off to the best running back
in a coal line situation, and it costs you a
super Bowl and a back to back championship with Russell

(01:09:17):
Wilson as your starting quarterback. And they now have an
opportunity to exercise all of these demons, show on up
and give us a performance that is going to be
completely different than the last time that we were here.
Like how do you not root for that? Like, I mean,
just from a rooting standpoint, team bad drove you crazy,
annoying Their fan base is dreadful to deal with they

(01:09:41):
suck when it comes to their personalities all of that
added together versus okay, well they're also Mariners fans here
in Houston, and we don't like that, Like like there
should be no argument on which side you are pulling
for tomorrow. I get Drake May has a lot of fun.
I get that Raves is a good coach. I get
the fact this could be really interesting and in part

(01:10:02):
that I think a lot of people are forgetting about this.
Drake May is the youngest quarterback all time to go
to a Super Bowl since Dan Marino. What if he
is the next day Marino. And I'm not saying that
in terms of playing style because of Dan Marino. In
my humble opinion from a gift perspective from a town,
he's the greatest quarterback to ever walk the face to
the earth, like just straight up in terms of what

(01:10:24):
he was doing in the eighties versus what we see now,
like he would end up I think having one of
the most successful careers if you dropped him into this century,
like I really do. But he went to one Super
Bowl in his second season and he never got back there.
And that's a question that a lot of people are
ask themselves right now when it comes to Drake May,

(01:10:44):
is this the only one he's going to go to?
It could?

Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
It very well could, And I understand that.

Speaker 1 (01:10:51):
You know what, for most of us, it'd be like, okay, well,
New England still is going to be really good. On
some token, It's like, Okay, the statue limitation is you
guys get to suck bad enough to where you're good
enough to be in the playoff every year, but you
never get back to the super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
Yeah, that's enough suffering for you.

Speaker 1 (01:11:07):
I think that you've reached the level of what everyone
else has felt during your regime. With Tom Brady and
Bill Belichick, I think they were good at this point.
I think that we've cleared all limitations of what we expect,
so like, from there, it makes a lot of sense.
I'm just not understanding how anybody outside of the Boston
area is bown for New England. We witnessed for over
two decades, the dominant run of all dominant runs we

(01:11:30):
witness as a team basically made life hell in the
AFC for any single roster that was trying to go
toe to toe with them, and it's five years removed
from them losing the quarterback, and they're right back at
square one. They're right back at the mountain top. I
get that I want to see Kansas City be the
next dynasty, and I don't think that they will. And
if they are, it'll be because the Patrick Mahomes is

(01:11:52):
able to just do godly things that nobody ever expected
because it was very weird to see Tom Brady do it.
I don't think that we'll get to that level. But
I'd much rather see a new diece be formed than
the one that I currently had to watch for years
on end destroy basically everyone's hopes and dreams. Whenever you
were going into the playoffs, like as a Texans fan,

(01:12:14):
every single year that you played New England, you felt
so slighted because if it didn't matter how damn good
your team was, they had Tom Brady. They were the
cheat code. They were gonna beat you, and they did.
And now here we are, fast forward, almost a decade
later since the last time you faced off against some
of the playoffs, and it's the exact same story. It's

(01:12:35):
the exact same mantra, Oh look, you gotta go play
in New England. On us, you gotta go play in
New England. In the divisional round. Look who's going to
the super Bowl and beating you in the process. Like
I could just say that, But they still are the
perfect villains of the NFL right now because of their
redemption arc has been nowhere near the level of where
it needs to be, and I still want to see
them be humbled a little bit. I just do, and

(01:12:56):
I think a lot of people are on the same page.
If you can't tell, I'm pulling very hard for Seattle
to win tomorrow and I want to Seahawks to go
ahead and beat the brakes off of New England. Seven
one three two one two five, seven ninety is the
number to get on and take a quick time out.
When we come back. There is one person who is
better at you, at life in every way, shape or form,

(01:13:16):
or doctors are lying to you, and we're gonna get
to the bottom of it because of what is going
on currently in Italy needs to be discussed. I'll explain
what I mean when we come back right here on
space Aay Saturday Sports Talk seven ninety. I promise you
what I'm about to say is just straight up facts.
And the only way that you could argue with me
is if you hate America. That's just it. Welcome on

(01:13:38):
into Space a Saturday with Cole Thompson right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
A couple more minutes where we get on.

Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
Over to the national programming, but in thirty minutes the
good news probably the positive. You're gonna have Astro's rocket.
I mean, you're gonna have rocket launch pad. Because of
we have a game at two thirty with Adam planton
and with Matt Thomas on the call right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety Super Bowl sixty tomorrow night between
the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, and of

(01:14:05):
course tonight over on KPRC, you can listen to the
Cougars take on the Cougars, the Houston Ones taking on
the BYU once tip off at eight forty five seven
one seven ninety. Frankie, are you big into the Olympics
at all?

Speaker 5 (01:14:20):
I don't usually follow it, okay, but the only thing
I know is apparently somebody's got an acattle injury going
into it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
So so I'm so glad that you brought this up,
because there's either one or two things that we can
take away from this. Lindsay Vaughn is a badass. Lindsay
Vaughn is awesome, and I do not want to hear
from anybody that you are tougher.

Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
You think that her job is not tough.

Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
She tore her ACL less than ten days ago training
for her final Olympic and instead of.

Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
Pulling on out, she said, screw it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:52):
I'm gonna go out in a blaze of glory and
I'm gonna go perform. And she killed it on her
first run. So that means either one or two things
is p gospel cure. The first is that she is
tougher than you in every way, shape or form. She
always will be. She is probably one of the toughest
people on the planet because I don't know how much
you know about skiing, but guys, you use your legs
a lot. You use your hips and you use your

(01:15:13):
legs and when you're making those fast turns, I promise you,
and ACL is probably necessary.

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
In fact, I would.

Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
Say it's more to say, did you see the video
of her doing squat jumps, Frankie, She doesn't have a
ligament in the back of her leg and it's like
nothing for her. So either she is the biggest badass
in the world that we've ever seen, or doctors have
been lying to us for years about the ACL injuries.
That's the stick, because it has to be one or

(01:15:42):
the other. Either she is fighting through pain, through every
single turn and crevice in every single move to go
ahead and try and win the gold one final time.
Or we have been duped by doctors for them to
perform surgeries that the insurance policy is going to cover
and we start to pay out of pocket like the
other ten grand for it because they want to make
a quick buck. That's the only thing I am taking

(01:16:05):
away from so far what she is able to accomplish.

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
I think it's the former, I really do.

Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
I think she's awesome and that the fact that she's
able to do this one more time is probably the
coolest I'm her type of moment in sports. It really
is that I'm him, like Mode, you are the goat,
and like people were talking about earlier today on social media,
who is the goat of Winter Olympics. If the answer
is not Lindsey Vaughn, I don't know what is, especially
if she goes out on top this year, and if

(01:16:31):
it's not that, it's that the fact that I have
seen so many friends playing football so many friends, missing
time athletes like Patrick Mahomes and whatnot, all taking a
couple of days off, taking a couple of months off,
because if they tore their ACL and it's like, oh, well,
you actually don't need it. You can still play. You
just won't be as fast anymore, but you'll live. It'll

(01:16:52):
be fine. Like one of the two has got to
be the fact here, Frankie, it just has to.

Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
I again, I'm saying this kindly.

Speaker 1 (01:17:02):
She is absolutely fighting the pain because I cannot live
in a world to where you're telling me doctors have
been scamming us out trillions of dollars to be performing
ACL surgeries and then it's just like not necessary anymore.
It has to be that way.

Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
It just does, Frankie.

Speaker 5 (01:17:19):
It makes sense to me. I mean, and she's she's
in her early forties, so I mean she's like forty one,
isn't she right, So I mean, once you get up
there in age, that's like, that's even more serious. So
the fact that she's pulling through with it is kind
of amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
It's honestly gonna be.

Speaker 1 (01:17:38):
This will be, in my opinion, if she wins the gold,
this will be the story of twenty twenty six, it will,
and I know that people will say, well, what about
what happens with the Americans in the Olympics. Okay, cool, Like,
trust me, I'm gonna be locked into the hockey games.

Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
I am gonna care.

Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Matt Thomas says, you know, I appreciate the fact that
ross Ville Reale and the guy who was who was
the producer last week, Nicholas nice. Dude. You just give
him a follow on Twitter and definitely should go subscribe
to his YouTube channel. We talked to my other sports
she should. He's actually a very sweet kid. I appreciate
the fact they push back on Thatt Thomas because hockey's awesome.
I'mnna be locked in on it, especially because if I

(01:18:13):
think this year the United States can beat Canada, and
they can beat Finland, and they can beat up on
everybody and they will win the gold.

Speaker 2 (01:18:20):
Like I'm really excited for that. But you're telling me a.

Speaker 1 (01:18:23):
Forty one year old who was gonna go ahead and
call it a career after this run hurts herself says,
screw the surgery.

Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
Let's go ahead and just let it fly.

Speaker 1 (01:18:34):
One more time. I'm not skiing professionally anymore after this
So no matter what I do, it's either gonna end
up being a really bad injury that I gotta deal
with to where I'll just rest for three years, or
I'm gonna kill it and I'm gonna become the baddest
person that's ever walked the planet.

Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
Like that's gonna happen one of the two.

Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
And if she.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
Wins the gold on basically one.

Speaker 1 (01:18:55):
Leg going sixty five to eighty miles per hour, own
hill to go ahead and hit every single turn, how
is that not the sports story of the year, Like,
how are we looking anywhere.

Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
Else other than that? It's just fascinating me.

Speaker 1 (01:19:11):
Okay, we're done with the Lindsay vontak Let's go ahead
and into Super Bowl predictions.

Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
I told you guys what my.

Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Fear was of this game. It would be Super Bowl
fifty three, thirteen to three New England Patriots versus the
Los Angeles Rams. Neither one of these teams looked motivated.
Neither one of these teams felt like that they were
able to get anything going offensively. It took all the
way into like the last six minutes for somebody to
get into the end zone. And you're gonna say, well,
it was a good defensive game. No, it wasn't. It

(01:19:35):
just was a simply crap show. I don't even remember
the halftime performance. I don't remember any of the commercials.
I think, if I'm not mistaken, that was the year
Maroon five was out there. Whatever, it doesn't really matter anymore.
Point is is that that's my fear of what this
game's gonna be. What I want this game to be
is Super Bowl forty three. Patriots are basically the Pittsburgh
Steelers and the Seahawks are basically the Arizona Cardinals, and

(01:19:58):
it's back and forth blows and it's really exciting, and
at the end of the day, one of these two
teams has that I got it moment and they find
their way into the end zone with like less than
a minute left, and they win the dang thing and
they end up getting a twenty seven to twenty four
victory like that, Like that's the hope, pure that's where
I want it to be. What I think it's gonna
be is a lot like Super Bowl fifty. I think

(01:20:19):
you were going to see one team. While the score
won't indicate that it was a blowout, it really felt
like one was mentally and physically prepared to be able
to handle biz against anybody, and they weren't going to
be jeopardized. They weren't going to lose their gusto. They
were going to coast their way on in. And I
think that's what we're gonna get. And it may be
a fun halftime show, and it may be some great commercials,

(01:20:41):
but I think that we are going to see Sam
Darnold hoist up the Lombardi Trophy for the first time
in his career and the second time in Seattle Seahawks history.
I have a final score of twenty four to thirteen.
I think the Seahawks will beat the New England Patriots
and we will have to live in a world where
New England is back on top. That does it for
me right here on space see Saturday, don't go anywhere.

(01:21:01):
In thirty minutes, Asher's launch Pad, then Astro I mean
Rockets launch Pad, then Rockets versus Thunder, and then I'll
see you on Monday. Peace
