Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here seven nineties.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Cole Thompson.

Speaker 3 (00:05):
So, I was driving up here this morning trying to
come up with some idea of what to expect from
your shuston Astros going into the end of the month
of December. I think I figured it out. I think
I know what's about to happen. And that is how
we start at space Aday Saturday right here on Sports
Talk seven ninety it is Cole Thompson Brockman two until

(00:27):
one o'clock seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety.
If you want time on in your astros. Looking to
make a massive move ahead of the new year. Texans
take the field against the Arizona Cardinals, looking to guarantee
a third straight winning season under Damiko ryans An Army
takes on Navy just this afternoon MMT Bank Stadium in
Baltimore seven one three two one two five, seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We have a lot of things I want to discuss.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
There were things I did I could discuss on the
morning drive. I'm gonna throw out your way, so doll
on in, sit back, relax, enjoy the next two hours
of NonStop h town sports, and we'll throw in a
little bit of college football conversation, but I got a saying.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
I was driving in this morning.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I was trying to figure out at some point the
Astros are doing something. I don't know what it is.
I'm not entirely sold on them staying put. You're seeing
moves get made across the MLB. Earlier today we just
saw Jorge Polankas have a two year contract with the
New York Mets.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I good for them.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
I guess they're finally doing something now will silence the
critics from those out in Queens.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
That's great.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
The Astros have been rumored to be in on several
players over the last few weeks. They've been rumored to
be on moving off of some players over the last
few weeks, and so now we're at that standpoint of
are we going to pivot towards a different direction? My theory,
the reason why a deal has not gotten done is
because the Astros are swinging big. The Astros are trying

(01:53):
to land that premiere fish that will have everybody drop
their draw and go look at themselves and say, Dana Brown,
this this Astros team, this is the version that we
were expecting to see last season. Now fully healthy, they're
gonna go on a run. They're gonna go make a
splash move all the way towards being the favorites in
the American League, and it's gonna happen. I do think

(02:15):
that you are going to see one of these two
trades go down.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Number one, Jake Myers is gone.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Now.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
I can say right now, I think that Jake Myers,
he will not be a part of Opening Day. He
will not be around the franchise this upcoming year. We're
going to see him playoffs. We're in twenty twenty six,
we are I think there are two moves that could happen.
One is that he's gonna go over to Cincinnati. Cincinnati
will take him on. You'll get Brady Singer. Brady Singer
is a quality number four pitcher. He played for Kans

(02:40):
City Royals two years ago as about a four or
five nine era, really overall solid number four in a rotation,
nice overall metrics. I would say, for a standpoint of
what you want in terms of a back end of
your rotation, guy, I could see that. The other move
I could see is that a team we just mentioned,
Kansas City, the city is trying to upgrade the southfield.

(03:02):
Right now, there aren't a lot of premier center fielders
on the market, and they're not gonna spend a lot
of money. Let's just call it as his guys. Kansas
City is not gonna go out of their way to
put pen to paper on these lucrative contracts for Cody Bellinger,
for Kyle Tucker, they're not gonna be there. But they
could move off of him and bring in another starter.
That's where Chris Boubach comes in play. Chris Boubers last

(03:23):
year had an eight and seven record, two fifty five,
one hundred and sixteen strikeouts, one point one eight whip
left hander good anywhere between the three, four and five
spot vision from Bravaldez replacement. If you were asking me
what would I do, I would absolutely lead in favor
of Chris Boobache. Don't get yourself a left handed pitcher,
somebody that you know can eat up some innings he

(03:44):
have it is about six point one per contest. Get
you a lot of strikeouts, a lot of fly balls,
don't worry about much gal withhozl two bits second base
and add in that validity to the end to the
middle of your rotation. That's a way to replace from
Bravaldez because you know that he's not gonna be back here,
So I think of that that's happening. The other thing
is I just see a scenario where either Zach Cole

(04:09):
or Jacob Melton, along with the rising pitching prospect and
either Estach Parentes or Christian Walker's on the move.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Now, what is that going to be for me?

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Personally?

Speaker 3 (04:19):
I think it's going for a pitcher, because even though
the Ashles have done a really good job of being
able to develop younger arms and build a rapport, when
it comes to the overall identity of what they want
from the Mound standpoint, I still think that they're missing something.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I don't know what it is. Is it veteranship.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Is it the fact that right now you don't have
a quality number two in your rotation after Hunter Brown?
Is it the fact that at this standpoint you know
that you are supposed to be one of the contenders
in the American League. Regardless, it just feels like there
are so many teams right now trying to either free
up some cat space, trying to bring in some prospects,

(04:56):
or enter a new era where they are going to
take a step back to gain a little bit more traction,
free up some sorry cap that could be the case.
I just see the Astros doing something and it's it's
a gut feeling. There's no rhyme or reason behind it.
I'm not hearing anything. I'm not saying that. You know,
somebody has texted me and said, hey, look out for
X player here. No, that's not it at all. It
just feels like that when you're a team built like

(05:18):
the Astros, one that's supposed to be a considerable favorite
in the conference. I mean in the league, you have
got to be able to start swinging, and you're watching
as all these other teams in the American League are
at least making moves, not great moves, not elite moves,
but they are making moves.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Like you look at Pete a. Lonzo going to Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Michael Yas is actually putting money where his mouths and saying,
we're supposed to win with this young Korn place. So
from the standpoint of where you look at it in
terms of their overall goals, they put themselves in a
position to where they should be competitive in the American
League East. They also when you're all still in the
AL East, Boston added in Sunny Green one year contract

(05:57):
for forty one million with the opt in for twenty
twice seven. You also have Boss. I mean, you also
have the New York Yankees. Being the New York Yankees,
they have a great starting rotation, and then Toronto decides
to swing big an ad in Dylan Cees as the
number two to their rotation behind Kevin Gosman on a
roster that already has competed for a World Series title
and was an out way from having its first championship

(06:18):
returned to the Great White North since nineteen ninety three.
So they're making plays. Seattle's making plays right now. Seattle's
going out on the added and Josh Nayler back on
a four year deal. They're in the conversation for potentially
trading for Trek Scubel. So you know that they're trying
to be competitive. But across the rest of the of
the division, who do you fear if you're an Ationros fan,

(06:38):
who right now do you think could absolutely compete alongside
with Houston and Seattle for a chance to go on
a run in the postseason. The Angels don't know what
they're doing when it comes to their manager situation. Kurt
Suzuki is there for one year. On top of that,
you just lost Anthony Rendell and who which is a
good thing, but he costs you over two hundred million

(06:59):
dollars for They're a guy that played in less than
twenty five percent of his games.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
They're struggling.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
The A's are a year away from being a year away,
and I don't think that they will spend money until
they get to Las Vegas. They'll just build a really
good core in place. And you're listening to Texas. They're
making small moves like adding in a Danny Jansen, but
they're also fielding phone calls for are other guys. Adulas Garcia,
he's not gonna be back next year, Corey Seeger potentially
on the move. Lots of teams in the National League

(07:27):
are making phone calls to see what it would cost
to bring in the shortstop. You already lost Marcus Simeon,
he's off to New York. You also have questions when
it comes to what is the overall stability of the
roster offensively, and.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
You're the Astros.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
You got a conundrum for you got a conundrum in
the infield because if you don't have enough mounds to
feed for the players that you want on the diamond.
You have question marks in the outfield because of right
now it feels like it's Cam Smith and insert two
random names here because Shake Meyer is not gonna be
a part of this team. You also have to ask
yourself where do you sit in terms of the pecking
order for a rotation standpoint, And you also had to

(08:01):
ask yourself what do you do at catcher? Because I
don't think yan Udias is going to be traded this year,
but I do think that yan Udaz is facing a
lot of pressure to deliver with a new hitting coach.
So do you bring in a name just to go
ahead and say, listen, if things aren't going right with you,
we at least have a serviceable backup that may end
up getting starting reps because we need the bat at
the bottom of the rotation. So you add all these

(08:23):
conundrums up, it just feels like there is an easy plan.
Go out and either added in an outfielder by trading
away a Christian Walker, trading away and Estac Parretez impairing
them with the package for younger prospects, or go ahead
and trade for a picture by doing the exact same thing.
But right now, this is where the Astros sit. They're

(08:44):
solid team in the American League. They're not a team
that I feel has done enough to put themselves in
the conversation alongside Toronto. I don't think that they put
themselves in the conversation alongside Seattle. I don't think that
they belong in the same stratosphere right now as Baltimore.
And Baltimore's really interesting because Baltimore, they still have some
questions when it comes to their pitching staff.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
They got to get better with the rotation.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Frobert Valdez, his name has been thrown out there to
potentially join them. But they have a great offensive personnel.
They added into really solid playmakers in the on the
field in Pete Alonzo, who do I think he's worth
a five year, one hundred and fifty million dollar contract.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
No, but I understand it. You have the money to.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Spending, you want to see your core actually play to
its standard, Go ahead and throw your money where your
mouth is.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Do so.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
I have no problem with that. You got it in
Taylor Reward, who I think is a really good outfielder.
Surprised he wasn't moved to the deadline last year by
Los Angeles.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
You're not in that same category. If you're Houston, you
can be.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
I think it's actually very prominent that you should be
by making two moves. Number one, getting rid of Jake
Myers and finding a way to bring in someone else
to play in the outfield role while adding in a
back end rotation guy that should be your replacement for
what you have with Lance mccullors. That should be like
this year's Cruit Suzuki. He gets into the program, he
starts to fix out the kinks. He ends up having

(10:01):
about a three point two era. He has a whip
around one point one to eight. He's striking out one
hundred and twenty five batters. He's your number three, number four.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Look at that.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
You got one of the better back end rotations in baseball.
Then you also have to throw in moving off of
either Yin or I mean moving off of the estach
paredes a Christian walker. If you're able to accomplish that
and build some type of idady or a port, then
I think that you've done your part to get right
back in the conversation of we still are among the
al elites.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
We may not be the elite.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
There certainly are some teams that are going to be
making some moves that put us in a position where
it comes down to a game seven, winner take all scenario.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
We may end up losing it, but I think that
you've done.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
A good job understanding where you are as a program
to be able to fix the faults and now bring
your team to a new level, A pretty damn good
one in my opinion, too. Wonder where I could say
ninety wins should be on the table. Winning the AL
West should be on the table, Competing for the ALE
Championship should be on the table. All things that you're

(11:01):
accustomed to seeing. They're very much prominent, and they're featured.
That to me is what we ultimately. I think if
you're going to see the aswers, they're not seeing the
pat I just don't see a scenario where they do
they look at this roster and say, yeah, we're cool. Yeah,
what we have right now, Jake Myers, when we got
our pitching staff, how we were able to bring up
names last season to kind of fill the void at
certain spots will be good. Not when you're watching other

(11:23):
American League teams be able to make massive moves to
put them in a better position, and you still feel
like that there's something missing, and there's a spark, there's,
like Daddy, just something that has been thrown to the
wayside that you know you have to have if you
want to compete alongside Seattle, New York, Baltimore, Boston, Toronto.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Who the hell knows what you got without? In the
American League?

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Central Trek scooball is he still gonna be a part
of the Tigers this year? Are the Tigers who gonna
go actually adding Alex Bregman? Do you fear Cleveland? Do
you worry about Kansas City? Do you think that Minnesota's
doing anything? We know the cub I mean know, the
Little White Socks are just gonna beating on there, get
landing the number one pick this year?

Speaker 2 (12:02):
So who do you fear? Can the Asters get back
to that standpoint?

Speaker 3 (12:06):
I just got a feeling deep down that they're making
a move we're gonna be surprised by. And it may
come within the next forty eight hours, may come within
the next ninety six hours, but I'll say by this
time next Saturday, the Asters have done something to catch
our attention where we're starting to believe this year is
a little bit different. Not saying that this is the
beginning of the end, not saying that the Astros are
supposed to be the favorites to win the American League,

(12:28):
not saying any of that, but you feel pretty confident
about where Dana Brown is, where this roster is, and
the moves that were made. We're not just here for
the immediate attention, but for the long term. They're better
suited to go on runs after run after run to
once again claim themselves as the best in the American League.
Seven seven ninety. Let's take a quick time out. Texans

(12:51):
played the Cardinals this Sunday. Texans win on Sunday. They
end up having a third straight plus five hundred record,
and it's because one move.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Let's revisit that move from.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Twenty twenty three and how one trade with the Arizona
Cardinals ultimately decided, Hey, now you're a legit threat to
go ahead and possibly win a Super Bowl. All that more,
one segment down, seven more to go on a Space
Day Saturday right here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Space Day Saturday rules right along here.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
On Sports Talk seven ninety col Tops of Rock with
You and one o'clock seven one three, two one two
five seven ninety snumber to dial on in you're astros,
We're gonna make a trade. For the end of the
twenty twenty five calendar year, Texans. They take on the
Arizona Cardinals for a potential ninth win of the year
and an army Navy kicks off at two o'clock on

(13:47):
CBS seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
All Right, Texans are gonna win this weekend. I'm not
gonna spend a lot of time talking about what I
expect in this game, what we should see in this game.
Texans are playing against a banged up, brew beratedly beaten
roster that I personally believe has no shout of coming
into NRG Stadium and doing much. They can't throw the football,

(14:10):
they can't run the football, they can't stop pass, and
last week we watched this Puka Takua laid waste of
this team. So I think that Nico Collins in the
office is gonna do the exact same thing.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
But the reason why.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
This game is so interesting is because of what this
game resonates. Three years after a trade that shocked the NFL.
SO CJ Shroud went number two overall. Texas trade on
up to the number three pick with Arizona and in
return for Will Anderson Junior, they gave up the twenty

(14:43):
twenty three number twelve overall pick, the twenty twenty three
number thirty three overall pick, twenty twenty four number seven
to first round pick, twenty twenty four third round pick.
They got returned the number three overall pick and a
twenty twenty three fourth round pick that eventually used for
a different deal. So let's revisit that trade and see

(15:03):
who quite literally won the deal. So we all know
that Will Anderson went number one overall. So the Texans got,
in my opinion, a top seven pass rusher currently in
the league who's only gonna get better. Who's gonna be
competing alongside Miles Garrett and Aiden Hutchinson and Max will
Me and Max Crosby and several others who we all

(15:25):
know are going to be considered the elite of the elites.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
When it comes to the pass rush.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
You got dude who right now is averaging double digit
sacks per season. You're gonna pay him a lot of money.
He's gonna be around here for the long term. So
you find yourself the next JJ wattfe your roster massive win.
Does anybody know what that twenty twenty three fourth round
pick was eventually turned into?

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Anybody?

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Well, they traded the pick and they ended up giving
it up to go get a third round pick in
twenty twenty four, and it ended up becoming Kaylen Block.
So Kaylen Block over the last two years has transcended
from being more than just a rangy.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Safety that makes plays on the football.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
When he was coming out of USC, the selling point
was the dude can create turnovers if they get like
eleven interceptions in three years with the USC's defense really good.
Now he's become a serviceable tackler, he's willing to play
the run, and he's freaking awesome creating turnovers.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
The dude gets his.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Hands on the ball at the right time and he's
able to ship momentum away from an opposing offense into
the arms of the Texans. So automatically you landed two
players that have now elevated this defense to becoming number
one in the NFL in scoring, number one in the
NFL in total yards allowed, number one in the NFL
in red zone efficiency, number one in the NFL in

(16:46):
the opponent's third done conversion rate, and they're second in
the league when it comes to the turnover margin.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
At plus twelve.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
That's because of what you got coming off of the
edge with fifty one and what you got in the
back end of number two. I think the Texans walked
away with an eight plus draft when it comes to
that standpoint, now, a Kain, it costs a lot of
money for the Texas to go out and land somebody.
They went and they traded away the number twelve pick,
the number thirty three pick, twenty twenty four to twenty
seventh overall pick, which was their first round pick, a

(17:12):
twenty twenty four third round pick. Well, here's what those
deals ended up becoming. Paris Johnson went number twelve overall.
Actually he went number six overall. That was just utilized
to go ahead and with the picks to move on
up to number six to get a guy who was
a great offense tack on Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
He's been good. I'm not gonna take this away from him.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Paris Johnson, in my opinion, has probably been a top
twenty maybe top twenty five offensive tackle in the league
for his first three years. Quality player. Do you think
that he's been better than Will Anderson Junior? Not even
remotely close. Texans absolutely smoked that deal by guaranteeing that
they landed a premier pass rusher versus getting an offensive

(17:52):
tackle who may end up being a reason why you've
given up fewer pressures in sacks, but still maybe not
the reason why you're sitting currently with a potential nine
win campaign going into week fifteen. They also landed bjo Jelauri.
I remember they landed Garret Williams. Garay Williams is no
longer a starting cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals, so automatically

(18:15):
feels like kind have a loss. They trade away a
first round pick in twenty twenty four. That first round
pick ended up becoming Darius Robinson, pass rusher extraordinary for
the Cardinals. In two seasons, he has recorded two sacks,
zero force fumbles, zero pass breakups, and twenty one total tackles.

(18:39):
You absolutely won the deal when it came to that,
and let's just go one step further. They also added
in Elijah Jones. Now Elijah Jones, he's a depth piece
for this team. Currently, he is the backup behind Will Johnson,
a first round pick from this past year. He does
not have a single stat line to show over his
last two seasons. But that'd be because of injury, whether

(19:00):
that be because of death purposes, whether that be because
he's a special teams player.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
He's not making moves.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Sometimes in life, you see a big, grand package and
you say to yourself, that's far too much to give
up for something. It's far too much of a risk
for us, And I wanta understand where you come from.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
I would. The problem is is.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
That sometimes you have to be willing to spend, and
as long as it ends up recouping the benefits of
the deal, you look smart.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Textans look like geniuses. Right now, Nick Cassio.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Looks absolutely like he fleeced Arizona, who once again will
not go to the playoff, who once again will have
major questions on who are going to be a part
of their long term plans as a foundation. When they
hit reset in twenty twenty six and they landed two
players for the price of one, everyone thought that when
you moved on up, you were just getting Will Anderson,
and that's a great deal. Will has been nothing short

(19:51):
of exactly what you want to see in terms of
an elite pass rusher who has come on in and
become the new face of the front seven.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
He's done all those things.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
That's a thing.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
But to also land Kaylen Block to know that in
round three something that Nic Cassio. I will always give
credit to the dude hits. Whenever we're in picks like
sixty four through eighty nine, every single one is absolutely
I can't miss.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
We got it.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
I still believe in Tank Dell. I still believe Jalen
Smith is gonna be a really good name too. Every
single one of them, they find a way to knock
it out of the park. Kaylen Lucksman a stud. He's
been absolutely what this team is needed on the back end,
and he's elevated the stats of the past secondary to
where teams know we can't throw it on Houston, we

(20:37):
can't run it on them, we can't throw it on them.
We have a better shot of watching them crumble underneath
their own pressure to win offensively. Then we do actually
putting up points against this team, and you got that
for the price of one player. Sometimes taking that risk
is exactly what's necessary, and that's the course that you
can have in life in general. You all think that
you know, it's very easy to do one thing, and

(20:58):
you think that you have all the it's just figured
on out. But sometimes you're really scared to go ahead
and trust what your intuition is telling you.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Nick Casserio did not have to make this move.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
He could have easily just sat back and said, you
know what, we'll take Tyree Wilson, we'll go after a
wide receiver, we'll go bring in another offensive line and
things will be fine. Instead, he said, let's go ahead
and swing big. Let's go ahead and move all of
our draft compensation on up. We got ourselves a quarterback
for the future. Now let's get ourselves a captain of
the defensive side who's going to terrorize opponents every single

(21:28):
time he takes the field. And so far, mission accomplished.
If anybody thinks that the Arizona Cardinals won this deal
because they didn't get ended up getting number three overall pick,
you're out of your mind. Texans absolutely fleeced Arizona, and
it's why right now one team is currently fighting to
figure out are they going to keep their coaches around,
are they going to keep their GM around?

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Who made this deal? Or are we going to.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Eventually see them hit reset and the other team, well
they're playing for a postseason bin, but actually a thirteen
win season.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
kJ, what's on your mind?

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Ed?

Speaker 5 (22:05):
What's going on?

Speaker 4 (22:06):
But man, real quick, I gotta I gotta tape for you,
and I got a quick question to close it out.
Love it so too, by the way, Uh, my thing
was this is my this is this is what I
see why from the office to stand for or the
lack of production from the offense. But what what are
the things that typically happened over the course of a game.

(22:28):
Your center or one of your primary officers in allowing
to get a chance to see what the defense is doing,
call out blocking schemes and uh lanes for the running back.
Your quarterback typically gets the survey of the defense to
find out who the hot man is, to see who's
the blitzing, see if they're dropping back in zones. Our
teams partypically run emotions to see if they're gonna follow

(22:50):
the man, to see if they're running man. The reason
why we're so deficient on offense is because we never
have a chance to do any of those things before then,
because by the time we come out of the huddle,
we got five or six seconds left on the play clock.
So we're scrambling into the line just to get so
CJ doesn't have a chance to see what the defense

(23:10):
is doing. The offensive lineman don't have a chance to
get the blocking scheme together because they're getting to play
in so they literally just running to the line and
running the play. If they can get the play calling
in a time de fact, give thee down chance to
walk to the line and see what the defense is doing.
Give Andrew am I saying this is gonna fix all
the offensive issues. Show it helps stopped considerably because I

(23:33):
prayers now are in the position to adjust to what
the defense is doing as opposed to just running the
play hoping can work because you don't know what team
the defense is running. And I take my question for
you is just the basic questions just to have another
fund If you have to pick right now, who on
that defense amongst the starters which you're putting the Pro Bowl?

(23:53):
And I'm gonna hang up the list and.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Let it shl on KJKJ what was the last bit
putting on what?

Speaker 4 (23:59):
Who?

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Who?

Speaker 4 (24:00):
I'm just starting hold on this defense? What do you
have in the Pro Bowl?

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Gotchaim Okay I appreciate the phone college kJ really do offensively.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I don't think you're far off. It does feel like that.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
They do take a little bit of time to get
to the to get to the line of scrimmage. And
I'm actually gonna talk about that in the next segment
because I think it's really important on things that I'm
looking for in this game, which is not much. It
isn't let's just call it Spade's paid. Houston could have
a D plus performance and they probably are still gonna
win by ten against an Arizona Cardinals team that's already
looking forward to twenty twenty six. But from a Pro
Bowl standpoint, I gave you four names kJ Number one,

(24:33):
Will Anderson Junior, and Danil Hunter automatically first ballot, no
questions asked.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
They're in the Pro Bowl. Number two, I give it
a Kamari last year.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
I don't think enough people are paying attention to how
well Kamari's played this year, like he is overshadowed by
Derek Singley Junior, because of one is an All Pro
corner and the other one is going into year two.
But there have been times this season I'm watching four
play and I'm like that's your number one. Not to
say that that Derek Singing and Jingior is not your
number one, mom, make that clear. But the way that

(25:02):
you're watching him win the line of scrimmage, the way
that heat is forcing wide receivers to lose battles consistently,
That's what a number one cornerback does. And the interesting
part is that come this time two years from now,
the Texans are gonna have a very hard conversation on
their hands.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
What do we do?

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Do we hold out and pay for two cornerbacks that
are gonna cost us at least thirty million annually, so
sixty million for two corners and maybe out the work
ind building up our linebacking corps and build up our
safety position and move off of guys outside of Will
Anderson on the defensive line, which I have no problem
with personally, I really don't. I don't want to see

(25:41):
Kamari Laster play against the Houston Texans offense for a while,
like for the rest of his career would be fine
to me, But that dude belongs in the Pro Bowl.
That dude is the epitome of what a Pro Bowl
player should be. And the fourth one is the one
who currently leads all Texans when it comes to votes
at a position, it's Caleb.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Luck at safety.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Kaylin Block does not get enough respective they for the
national perspective of how well he has played at safety
this year, Not to say that there aren't great ones
out there, but for interceptions, seven pass breakups, a force fumble.
On top of that, you look at his last two
seasons combined nine picks, eighteen pass breakups, two forced fumbles.
He's also gotten better when it comes to open field tackling.

(26:21):
The dude does a lot of good things at an
elite level, and I would love to see it.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
And be honored for it.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety James,
do not hang up, go to a quick time out.
We'll get to your question on the Astros. And I
want to bring up something that I think is dire
to see from the Texans this upcoming Sunday. It's not
gonna be a make or break, but at least I
want to feel like this is something that I can
buy into going into January when you're in a single

(26:47):
elimination game. All that more coming up on Space Sage
Saturday right here on Sports Talk seven ninety Next.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
Frankie.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Eventually, I'm gonna ask you a question.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
I want you to think about this for a moment,
and I want to get your opinion on this, ladies
and gentlemen. So I'm gonna throw it out here now
we're gonna get to it. Next segment seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety is a Space City
Saturday right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. What is
the greatest Christmas movie of all time? I have a
theory and I'll explain why in the next segment, but

(27:17):
I want to get your opinion on what you think
is the best Christmas movie of all time. You're Astros
looking to make a trade, your Texans looking to get
to nine wins with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals
and Army.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Navy kicks off at two pm. Go Navy beat Army.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. James,
what's on your mind, dud.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
Yeah, you're talking about the Astros making trades. Yes, Do
you think they expect your Don Avarez to be there
every day left fielder?

Speaker 3 (27:45):
No, Chas Cormick's gone, so he no longer is a
part of the Astros, But they kind of made it
clear that right now, even though the defensive metrics.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
It's funny, James, you bring.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
This up like we've heard Joe Aspatta be a pro
by jord On and say, here's what the numbers say
when he plays in the outfield.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
It's not that bad. Like some people want to make
it a bigger.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Deal than it is, but he's really actually been a
serviceable outfielder. The problem is that they wanted to be
at full full capacity. They want him out one hundred percent.
They're gonna have him at DH about I would say
eighty percent of games, and then he'll sit for about
five percent of games and then the other fifteen percent
he'll play in the outfield. But they don't have as
he's not expecting to be the everyday outfielder right now,

(28:27):
which is why I think you have to make a
trade for an outfielder.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Okay, with that being said, al two, they Bryce Matthews.
You only Ben Tramling Bryce Matthews up in DHL two.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
The well, the problem with that, James is you have
too much of a clog right now in the infield.
Christian Walker, east Sich, Perrenes, Jose al Toove, Nick Allen,
who I don't think will make the opening day roster,
but still part of the Mauricio Dubon trade. Carlos Kare
and Jermen Pangner all on your infield, and that's without
Bryce Matthews being a part of the conversation to begin with.

(29:01):
So you have a clog to where somebody has got
to go. And I would say, a'll tuve Korea Pana
are all untouchable. It's almost impossible to move the contract
to Christian Walker, even though at the end of the
season he was starting to hit his stride at the
right time. And it feels like the escoch Parentici is
your odd man out, But why are you trading away

(29:22):
potentially your best offensive piece at the top of the
at the top of the order. So you're you're in
a clog when it comes to that standpoint of what
do we do with the Bryce Matthews, Because.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Eventually you're gonna have to.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Have the conversation of if there's not a room for
him here and he's not moving to the outfield and
we're stuck only playing as a middle infielder, we may
have to have the conversation of packaging him alongside with
somebody to go ahead and get him out of our system.
That way we can bring in a plug and play
immediate guy contributor.

Speaker 5 (29:48):
Right now, well, the only the only thing that I
have to say is Jake Myers right now is your
best defensive outfielder. And I don't understand why you think
they want to trade him, but maybe they can't afford him.
I don't know they would consider trading him.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Here's my big thing, James uh and I guess I'll
go after this. But like for me, he's a great
defensive outfielder. He was brought up with the promise of
potentially being a really strong bat, and right now you're
not seeing the power and the value for him is
far too high to where you feel as if maybe
Zach Cole or Jacob Melton with years of control left
on their on their current contracts and the fact that

(30:26):
they're hitting as much power wise as Jake Myers, and
knowing that he is valuable because of that defensive prowise
and he is a potential gold glover on the regular basis,
you could get a pretty significant return for him. And
I think that's where you have to have that conversation
of if he's not a part of our long term plan,
and we don't think that he's going to be here
two or three years from now. Can we get somebody

(30:48):
who we do think could be here two or three
years from now.

Speaker 5 (30:52):
Okay, thanks for taking my call, that's the question ahead.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
Appreciate you, James all right, seven seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Look, I'm not saying that they're going to trade Jake
Myers because of they don't love him. I think that
they realize we've kind of reached a ceiling with him.
That's what this really comes down to. Sometimes you're a
good fit for the moment, sometimes you're a good fit
for the long haul. And it felt like that Jake
Myers over the last three seasons has been a good
fit for what you need in center field with the
potential of finally reaching a level of sustainability and I

(31:21):
would say execution long term. The power was there because
of the thing that I think a lot of people
look at and there's something that I've been studying a
lot more on since taking on over here at seven ninety.
Jake Myers is great Defensively, he will track down balls
like no one's business, and he has a lot of
Dvoway with defensive run saved. He does a really good

(31:42):
job of keeping the ball in front of him. He
doesn't take bad angles or bad pursuits. The problem is
is that I don't think he has a great arm.
I think there are some limitations when it comes to
his throats. You're going to watch him on a deep flyout,
hit the cutoff man, and a run is going to
be able to or from home. I score from third.

(32:02):
You got a guy on second. It's a deep flyout.
He is advancing to third base. I don't feel that
way when it comes to him being in that city.
Like when Kyle Tucker was playing in right field, runners
knew unless that ball was out of the park, I
wasn't touching home, But yet I wasn't moving to third base.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
I know I was locked in.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
I'm not going anywhere. I think that's kind of where
we are when it comes to Jake Myers. You offer
great contact, he'll get on base, He'll be able to
get a few extra base hits, and everyone wants in
a blue moon. Yeah, he'll send one out of the yard,
he'll touch all four. But for the most part, his
value comes on the defensive side and singles. He was

(32:44):
dubbed up to be a very good, power hitting center
fielder that also played exceptional defense. The defense is still there.
He still I think, could have some power in.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
A new location.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
But if you're going to look at it from the
perspective or from the magnitude of we have good offensive execution,
we need to get better offensive execution. And we got
guys currently are on the miners Zach Cole and Jacob
Melton that we want to see what their roles could be.
And they also are pretty good defensively, and they may
have a little bit more power and they may offer

(33:17):
a little bit more value when it comes to the
years of control that we have currently on their on
their contracts, and we need to get a back end
rotation guy. We need to potentially add in a number
four starter. Jake Myers being that trade piece not that
bad of a deal.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
And honestly, I.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Think for the most part, there's a couple of players
out there that I would be willing to make a
deal for. But I don't think I'm ready to go
ahead and pull the trigger on them if they asked
for if they ask for extra like if they said, hey,
we want Jake Myers an insert player here, I don't
know if I feel that way. I think that when
you look at guys like Brady Singer and he's like

(33:54):
guys like Chris Bubach.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Two names I threw.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
Out there, two names that I think will be moved
before the start new year. The reason why you can
go ahead and say they fit for the Astros is
number one, they'd be a back in rotation player. At best,
I think they'd be the number three, which means that
Christian Havier would move up to the number two, which
means you'd add in another picture to be the number four,
the number five, but they would the worst be your

(34:18):
number three.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
I mean best be number three.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
They also probably are gonna be moved for a one
on one swap, so it doesn't hurt your farm system.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
It doesn't have you squammering.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Around looking for other positions that now you have to
fill because if you lose depth, and on top of that,
it's a win win for both sides. Cincinnati needs to
add in more value when it comes to their outfield.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
You get that defensively with Jake Myers.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Kansas City needs to find themselves a premier center fielder
that's good defensively at Kaufman you.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Get that with Jake Myers. They feel good about their
pitching rotation.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Cincinnatis gotta feel really good about this pitching rotation right now.
You got Nickledolo, you got Hunter Green, who's gonna be
in Cy Young Candate next year. They got Ret Louder
who was a former stud at Wake Forest. They also
got Chase Burns coming on in. Like they're loaded on
the pitching side. They can lose Brady Singer and not
lose a lot of sleep, which is why I could
see that deal actually happening. The Astros got to add

(35:12):
in somebody when it comes to the back end of
the rotation. They just have to seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. Okay, I tease it long enough.
What is the one thing I'm looking for for the
Texans this upcoming Sunday? And also, Frankie, I think that
you should have your answer seven one three two one
two five seven ninety What is the greatest Christmas movie
of all time? There is a right answer. I would
love to discuss it that more. Coming on up space

(35:33):
A Saturday right here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Coming cage. It is Space Ace Saturday right here.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
On Sports SOX seven ninety cold Tom's wrong with you
for another hour, So seven one three two one two
five seven ninety if you want to chime on in astros.
Look going to make a trade or at least one
move before the end of the calendar year.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Texans looking to move to nine to five with a win.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday and Army Navy about to
kick off at MNT Banks Stadium. Seven one two one
two five seven ninety. Okay, Frankie, I need your opinion.
Call on in tweet me at mister Cole Thompson the
answer to this question, what do you think is the
greatest Christmas movie of all time?

Speaker 2 (36:16):
You know I love Christmas Vacation. You could even do
die Hard, But honestly, I've thought about it a little bit. Okay,
maybe Muppet Christmas Carol. That is the right answer.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
And I'm so proud of you right now. I am
so proud of you right now. Oh my god, I
never thought you were going to say that. I thought
I was dying on this take. It is far and
away the most epitome perfect Christmas movie of all time.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
And I don't want to hear arguments. It's Michael Kaine.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
It is Vaudevillian, Shakespearean Michael Caine arguing with muppets for
three hours. It is exactly the type of movie that
wins you over if you of comedy and of what
is supposed to be the sanctity of Christmas.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
I am so absolutely proud of you right now, Frankie.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
I thought you were going to say something out of
it is far and away the best version of a
Christmas Carol. I will die if you do not want
to say it is the best Christmas movie of all time.
Whatever your entireity of your opinion. It's a wrong opinion.
You don't know what you're talking about, but still you're
entitled to it. I'll let you live off that. But
if anybody wants to argue that the best version of

(37:29):
a Christmas Carol is not the one where Michael Caine
is arguing with Fozzy Bear and then telling Kermit, Bob
Cratchitt and Tiny Tim who's whatever his son fake frog
name out there, you are out of your mind. It
is the perfect sentiment of what Christmas is supposed to
be about. I have never been more proud of Frankie.

(37:50):
Right now, Ladies and gentlemen, I cannot. I genuinely thought
you were gonna go on a completely different path. Dude,
I'm not even lying on this one. I was sitting
here as like, he's not. I'm going to throw a
curveball into this entire formula. And the fact is you
actually threw me off pace because I had an entire
argument about why this was the best Christas movie of

(38:10):
all time. And now I know I'm not dying on
this take alone. Oh yeah, I can't appreciate you enough,
Frankie for that one. All right, why is it not
a'm up at Christmas?

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Carol.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
I'm going to wait for somebody to call on in
seven one three two one two five seven ninety because
that is the only answer I will accept. But do you, okay, Frankie,
do you do believe that Diehard is at least a
Christmas movie?

Speaker 5 (38:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (38:32):
Yeah, okay, so you're on that same page.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Because I am one hundred percent like, I very much
don't understand the people who are.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
Like, it's an action movie. Okay, Well you know what,
It's an action movie.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
I can watch in July and then I will put
a little snokemit, I will put a little Santa hat
on John McClain as he's killing Hans Gruber and he's
throwing him out the window, and I'll say that Santa
Claus is going to pick him up.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
With the sleigh before he hits the ground. It's a
Christmas movie, of course, It's one hundred percent of Christmas movie.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
I don't understand how people live in sidey and say Nope,
definitely not a Christmas movie. Definitely just an action packed
film that has no understanding on what it's supposed to
be the sanctity of the holidays, guns murder, finding a
way to go ahead and say the city of Los Angele,

(39:18):
How are we not saying that that is exactly what
the holidays are all about. It's ridiculous, Francisco, it is.
It's absolutely insane. Now, what also is insane is the
thing that I need to see from the Texans this
upcoming weekend. There's not a lot I believe that the
Texans gonna have a D plus game against this roster,
and they still will find a way, still will find

(39:39):
a way to guarantee that they end up winning this
game by double digits. The one thing I want to
see this upcoming weekend, just the one I want to
see them execute a two minute warning offensive drive before halftime,
because the last two games, we've seen the Texans go

(40:01):
on out with a little over a minute and a
half left the match up against Indianapolis last week against
Kansas City, and it felt like there was no momentum whatsoever.
And then you hear to me go Ryans afterwards, and
he's talking about how we get the ball coming out
in the second half. We know that we just don't
want to get the ball back to the opposing keeam.
We don't want to lose the momentum. I get all that,

(40:23):
I completely do, but let me straticize it a little
bit different for the Texans. Don't you want to be
able to say that you're able to execute properly going
into halftime and keep momentum on your side, because in
my opinion, the think I've noticed in both of those
games is that after coming out from the break, the

(40:45):
offense looks sluggish on the opening drive. You get the
ball to begin both drives and you end up punting
on both and in the game against Kansas City last week,
you end up going three and out and then immediately
Kansas City scored on their opening drive and it became
now a closer you expected, and we were now at
a we were now at a ten ten game, So
why not keep them when I'm going into halftime? Heard

(41:08):
it a lot of scrimmage. Like Katie brought up, a
kJ brought up earlier, they got to have a little
bit more up. They gotta have a little bit more
of an epsy, a little bit of urgency. That's what
I want to see that you have a design game
plan to where you're executing a two minute offense with tempo,
with consistency, and with a good rapport that you understand

(41:30):
that we are going to end up making sure that
we're not losing the momentum going into halftime because for
whatever reason, and this has been a thing that's going
on now twice twice for the last two games, they
don't execute with the first fifteen minutes coming out of
the break. And whoever is the opposing team, could be
an eight win team, could be a seven win team,

(41:51):
could be a five win team, could be the best
team in the mean and the AFC, whoever it is,
they don't have the juice.

Speaker 1 (41:58):
And I don't know what to.

Speaker 6 (41:59):
Make of it.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
I don't don't know if it's because of they lose
that spark?

Speaker 3 (42:02):
Is it because of they end up not wanting to
they feel like they're in control, and then therefore they
can give up a touchdown and not have to worry
about a lot. To me, what I'm saying is and
what this really comes down to, in my humble opinion,
if you keep that gusto and you keep that inertia
and you're starting to figure out a good identity going
into the break, you get to carry that momentum going

(42:23):
out of the break, and maybe you're able to jump
up to not a seven point lead, but instead of
fourteen point lead, or at least a ten point lead,
or maybe it's now a seventeen point lead. And at
this moment, Arizona realizes, dude, we're cooked, Like thanks again
once long and behold, the only thing that the Texans
are doing is they're showing that we need to have
a complete and total revamp of the roster. And the

(42:44):
good news is we're gonna end up picking inside the
top five. Like that's what I think you're gonna see
in this standpoint. So the one thing I want to
see from the Texans this is a coming weekend. The
thing that I think is dire. It's essential you have
to be able to execute it properly. Is just a
good understanding of how to run a two minute warning
offense that's able to put points on the board. You

(43:05):
didn't do it against Indianapolis, Okay, you get a mulligan.
You didn't do it against Kansas City long and behold
what happened. Kansas City came on out, they were able
to kind of take momentum away from you, and if
not for a really bad interception and a fourth down
field conversion by Andy Reid, there's a scenario where Kansas
City keeps that momentum and they end up going into
the fourth quarter with the lead. Now there's a very

(43:27):
good shot that that's where everything goes awry. Kansas City
ends up winning the game. And now we're talking about
Houston not being good enough to go on a run
to ward an AFC Conference title appearance. So can you answer,
when it comes to it's two minutes left, you get
the ball at the seventeen yard line, can you get
at least in a range for a Kyami Fairbran field goal?

Speaker 2 (43:49):
Can you put points on the board to carry that into.

Speaker 3 (43:51):
The second half? Because you're gonna get the ball in
the second half to begin the game ninety nine point
nine percent at the time. I believe that's gonna be
the case.

Speaker 2 (43:59):
But I want to know that that.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
You're extending your lead and that you're not playing passive.
You're okay with maybe having a big time playdown field
and it ends up being a turnover, but at least
you dang try for it. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety one hour down, one hour.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
Left in the books.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
Let's talk a little college football playoff scenarios because there
are some things I want to bring on up, and
I do want to talk about the Michigan stuff because
it has been a big deal. I think it's really
important to talk about why this matters all that more.
Coming on up Space Day Saturday right here on Sportstock
seven ninety next.

Speaker 1 (44:33):
One hour down, one to go. Right here on.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
Sportstock seven ninety is Space Day Saturday. Cole Thompson rock
with you until one o'clock seven one three two one
two five seven nine if you watch IM on in
your Texans take the field against the Arizona Cardinals tomorrow
with a shot to have a third consecutive winning season
under Dumiko Ryans Astros looking to make a big time
move before.

Speaker 2 (44:54):
The end of the calendar year, and.

Speaker 3 (44:57):
The Heisman Trophy presentation is tonight eight who walks away
with college football's most coveted awards seven one three, two
one two five seven ninety. Let's talk a little about
the situation that's been going on with Michigan. So you know,
it's a big deal for me because of are they
going to bring it on up? Earlier this past week
when we were doing Morning Drive, we kind of just

(45:18):
veered away from it.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
But there are some things you need to know.

Speaker 3 (45:20):
So more information has started to come on out, and
it's really really souring when it comes to the Sharon
war case. And honestly, at this point, I don't know
what's going to happen with Sharon Moore and his longevity
as a coach.

Speaker 2 (45:30):
I don't really care about that right now.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
If anything, the only thing that I care about, and
the only thing that most people should be caring about
when it comes to Charon Moore, is his mental health.
Because it's very clear that something is not right in
his life. He's got to be able to change from that.
But I want to bring this up with the Michigan standpoint.
So remind yourself he was firing on Wednesday. He was
arrested and detained on Wednesday, Wednesday evening after he's firing.

(45:55):
The thing that I believe has truly happened, and this
is where we know that there are problems in society
and this should never be the case. But honestly is
is that the first report that came out about this
and the investigation that was supposed to be underway, it
started back in September, so it started months ago. They
weren't able to find out enough conclusive information. They come together,

(46:19):
they put themselves in a spot to where you say, okay,
now that we have more conclusive evidence, we're gonna move,
We're gonna act.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
Here's the thing that I truly believe.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
I don't think this was the deciding factor, but I
do believe this is somewhat of a statement. Sharon Moore
was not supposed to be the head coach at Michigan.
Michigan never wanted to hire Sharon Moore to begin with.
They want to go out, bring in their own person,
bring in their own identity, bring in somebody that they
believed was going to be a better fit to replace him. Harbad,
I truly believe that, But unfortunately, there are two truths

(46:51):
to every situation. The first is knowing the sanctions that
were going to be coming on out because of the
predicament that occurred when it came to the no fault
cause which Jim Harbab, they were on going to entice
a very competent option when it comes to a head
coach number two. Harbad did so much good in terms

(47:11):
of helping the program sustain incredible success during his tenure.
After he decided to leave the NFL to go back
to college, they became Michigan's head coach that they decided
to go ahead and reward him with somebody who was
somebody on his staff that they saw him hand picked,
and he hand picked sure own warm whod been part
of the system for multiple years, had been a part
of the organization for eight plus, and they said, Okay,

(47:33):
we're just gonna go ahead and hire this dude because
of this too, a guy that we respect a lot
and as alumni and brought us our first national championship
in over three decades.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
That's who they wanted.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
But they were looking, I think always for a reason
to not hire Suam Moore or a reason to get
out of the shrow More deal. They found their reason,
they have the evidence, they were able to not use
this as a way to guarantee they fire him with
just cause and now they're hitting reset. You probably ask yourself,
what does this have to do with the city of Houston.
It does not have to do with this Houston cougeris,

(48:05):
but it has to just with sports in general. Winning
solves a lot of problems. Winning will always be the
ultimate curve that you throw on in that will allow
you to eventually keep your job or retain a lot
of negative spotlight to be thrown to the wayside.

Speaker 2 (48:21):
The more you win, the more consistent you.

Speaker 3 (48:23):
Are bringing home titles, the more you're able to trust
that your team is able to be a competitor.

Speaker 2 (48:28):
It's viewed as a viable force. They will any committee,
any community will turn the other cheek. And it happens
in sports.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
A lot.

Speaker 3 (48:38):
A lot of negativity goes on behind closed doors that
we don't talk about in college football, that we don't
talk about in college athletics in general. But as long
as you're winning, teams are willing to overlook that and
put you in good graces.

Speaker 2 (48:51):
The only times that I was sexing.

Speaker 3 (48:52):
A buddy of mine who had very close ears on
the situation. He told me that he heard about the
Sharon War stuff on three different occasions. The first one
was after the loss to Oklahoma, the second one was
after the loss to usc The third one was after
the loss to Ohio State. When you're winning football games

(49:15):
and you're able to go ahead and prove that your
team is competitive and that it's on the verge of
having a season to remember, people are willing to turn
the other cheek, and that's not right society. It isn't
if you do something bad, if you do something that
is definitely punishable in the eyes of the public, you
should behold accountable. But that's not the way that the
world works. When it comes to athletics. It just simply doesn't.

(49:38):
But the second you give them a reason to go
ahead and turn the other cheek for you and say, listen, now,
we have justifiable cause to know that you're not our
right guy and we don't want to be attached to you,
they will sell you out immediately. And it happens all
the time. Happens in sports, happens in society. It's just
a nature of the business. Ladies and gentlemen. Auto Scherilmore

(49:59):
is ever going to be a coaching I honestly don't
really care about that. What I care about is that
he finds the right people that he's able to reach
out to to mentally put himself in a great position
because right now he needs it more than anything else.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
But regardless, if you win, you get are employed. I
think a lot of people look.

Speaker 3 (50:15):
At it from the standpoint of that's the reality of
where we are as a society now. For the next
head coach at Michigan, what's gonna be interesting is to
see what pathway do they go, Because the first thing
I would do is if Ward Manual is still gonna
be the athletic director, which I find to be absolutely atrocious,
somebody who knew about this and somebody who got swubbed
it under the rug and had been a part of
the sanctions that were going on with Jim Harbaugh. I

(50:37):
would just hit reset entirely with that entire athletic department.
But that's not gonna be the case. They're going to
hold out and they're going to say we believe that
we have the right athletic director to fix the problems
and put us into a new perspective. Then you got
to go ahead and cut ties with the harbau Way.
It's not because of the Harbaugh Way wasn't promising, and
it wasn't because the Harbor Way did w win titles.

(50:58):
But you just need a four on reset because as
long as this dark cloud is hovering over you, and
as long as there's a reasonable lead that there are
at least people who are going to bring this up
in conversation, it's not going to disappear. You're only going
to be known for being a part of a cheating scandal.
You're only going to be known for not doing things
the way that people want from the public standpoint. And again,

(51:21):
it goes all the way back to what we saw
with the Connor Stallion stuff a few years ago, to
what we saw with Harbor and his coaching style. What
happened when it comes to this realm more situation. They're
all a part of the Harbaugh coaching tree. So I
think you just got cut ties with that, which means
that Jesse Minter, who is the name that's getting brought
up a lot in conversation for the opportunity to become
a head coach at Michigan or in the NFL. I

(51:42):
think that he stays on the Sunday game and doesn't
go back to the Saturday game. Do you go with
the name that is proven or do you go with
the name that's proven something with lesser two results?

Speaker 2 (51:52):
What do I mean by that?

Speaker 5 (51:54):
Well, Kaylyn A.

Speaker 3 (51:54):
Borne, his name is being thrown out from Alabama. I
do not think that Kayln Borr is going to be
the next head coach of Michigan.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
I don't see a scenario why he should. I don't
understand why you would leave a great place like Tuscaloosa
to head on up to Ann Arbor with the expectations
are the same, this same type of pressure that you
have facing off against Auburn and Georgia, it's magnified to
a new level.

Speaker 2 (52:15):
With what you have with the Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (52:17):
And once you have an elite job, once you're part
of that blue blood society, you don't really need to
worry about much. You've already gotten to the mountaintop. Why
go ahead and hit recent on your career when there's
no reason to so. I don't think he's gonna get
the job, but he's proven.

Speaker 2 (52:33):
All he does is he wins.

Speaker 3 (52:35):
He goes to major programs, he goes to smaller tier programs,
he goes to programs with lesser results. Winning, winning, winning,
winning sells everything. And they need to get a proven
winner in that building who is going to change the
way that we view Michigan for the long term.

Speaker 2 (52:51):
And that's one way to prove it.

Speaker 3 (52:53):
You can also go to the proven track record of
guys like Brian Kelly if you really want to. I
don't think that's a good hire to begin with, but regardless,
that means that you just find ways to win. You
can go out with another major name if you really
try to, with like say like a PJ Flag or
something like that. All he does he wins at Minnesota.
You also could go with a guy who wins because

(53:14):
of the environment. And that's what I'm talking about here.
Kenny Dillingham is a really good coach. His name has
been brought up in conversation now. Corder reports he's about
to sign a brand new extension with Arizona State and
he's gonna get paid an important amount when it comes
to resources to put his team in a position to
where they can start spending on the regular at a
high end level. The reason that's important is because of

(53:37):
Kenny Dillingham. At a program like Arizona State does not
have the same funds at a place like Alabama or
Texas or Texas A and M or Georgia or LSU
or any major profile program in college football, they're allotted
a certain amount of money and then they say, here, dude,
we want you to get to nine wins, but you
got to do it where you're basically having one arm

(53:57):
tie behind your back.

Speaker 2 (53:58):
And he looks up and down and goes, okay, cool,
I can do that.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
And he ends up winning nine plus games, and he
leads his team to a top twenty five finish, and
people start buying into he's a damn good coach. Imagine
what we would do if we gave him a little
bit more money, which is something that needs.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
To be discussed because it can't it very well.

Speaker 3 (54:15):
Can't You give him the resources that are currently at
a place like Michigan and you already know that the
results are there.

Speaker 2 (54:21):
When it comes to a lesser tier program that.

Speaker 3 (54:23):
Doesn't have the money, you gotta feel pretty dang good
about where you are in a hiring process. You also,
and we've just seen this recently happen not too long
ago with Matt Campbell. So for those of you that
don't know, Matt Campbell was at Iowa State, he just
signed on to be the head coach of Penn State. No,
I do not think for one second he ever was
going to be interested in the Michigan job. I think

(54:43):
that he wanted the Penn State job. But you look
at a place like Iowa State, Guys, Iowa State never
had a nine win season before Matt Campbell got there.
They never put in the right amount of resources for
building up a football program to the highest level in
the Big Twelve. Teams like Houston seems like teams like
teams like TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State. They all have far

(55:08):
more resources, far more nil deals, and far more money
in repertoire to be able to win at a higher level.
And Matt Campbell, with limited resources, was able to get
the team to on average eight and a half wins
two years ago. He led them to an eleven win
season and a Big Twelve playoff appear I mean a
Big Twelve title appearance. He's been in the Big Twelve

(55:30):
title twice. Now we're going to see what he does
when it comes to a lot of money. And Kenny
Billingham very well could do that when he goes to
a place like Michigan. But then there's another name out
there that would like to throw.

Speaker 1 (55:41):
And sometimes you.

Speaker 3 (55:42):
Got to go off the beaten path. And this is
where I think you would go off the beaten path
in my opinion. And if you guys ever heard of
Jason Eck. Jason Ck is currently the head coach at
a place like New Mexico. New Mexico this past year
went nine to three. Guess what Before he got there,
they hadn't had a nine win season since twenty fifteen.
On top of that, they've only had one ten win

(56:05):
season in their entire program's history. And if they win
comes Sunday, I mean I come next week when they
faced off in their bowl game, they're going to be
at ten wins.

Speaker 2 (56:14):
Look at what he was able to do when he
was at Idaho.

Speaker 3 (56:17):
Now, Idaho's a program that I'll let people know because
it's an FCS school, four straight playoff appearances, twenty six
and thirteen record.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
Sometimes going off a beaten.

Speaker 3 (56:26):
Path and getting a guy that you believe is going
to be able to elevate your status because of the
resources that aren't attributed to him that now you throw
around him. That ends up being a reason why you
can start buying stock into who they are as a person.
That's why I think you need to see from a
place like Michigan, ride yourself of the Harbaugh era, ride

(56:47):
yourself of the world when it comes to what hasn't
gone right, and put yourself in a better position to
where you know that you were landing a premier name
that is only going to elevate your status because what
he's been able to do with lesser tier status. Guess
what it's absolute win seven one three two one two
five seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
Let's go back to Texas conversation. Things I'm looking for
this upcoming weekend.

Speaker 3 (57:07):
Things are dire if you are able to guarantee your
spot in the postseason. All that more on Space Avery
Saturday right here on Sportstock seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (57:14):
Next Space A Saturday, rolling right along here on a.

Speaker 2 (57:21):
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (57:22):
Cole Thompson Rock with Chew until one o'clock seven to one, three,
two one two, five seven nine. If you watch chime
on in Astros looking to make a move before the
end of the calendar year. The Heisman Trophy presentation underway tonight,
four names guarding for one accolade, and your Texans looking
to secure a nine win season, if not better, but

(57:45):
at least nine wins with a victory on Sunday over
the Arizona Cardinals seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. Let's talk about your Texans and let's go
there to begin.

Speaker 2 (57:53):
I don't think that you need to worry about much
of you are a Texans fan. I don't.

Speaker 3 (58:00):
I think at this point the Texans could end up
having what I believe would be a DP plus performance
game and they'll still find a way to win. Now,
I don't say an F game, because if you have
an F game, it means failure. So therefore you are
not winning a game, but D plus overall underwhelming, but
still enough of a performance that you're paying attention to

(58:24):
type of a game, you should be in a pretty
good spot to be able to win. What I'm looking
for in this matchup, more than anything else, are two things.
The first is I want to see the offense run
a two minute style play that I think is going
to be beneficial toward their success in the playoffs because

(58:44):
so far, the last few times the Texans have been
on the field and they haven't executed the way that
they see fit. It comes down to, at least in
my opinion, the inability to strike offensively before halftime.

Speaker 2 (58:59):
We've seen twice this year the Texans.

Speaker 3 (59:02):
End up having what I believe to be underwhelming drives
to close out the first half. It's the last two
games it's been terrible in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
You don't find a.

Speaker 3 (59:12):
Way into the end zone, but you find no lack
of an idetty on the offensive play design. With a
minute fifty one left in the Indianapolis game, then you
come out against Kansas City, you hold them to a
field goal.

Speaker 2 (59:25):
It's ten to three. This is a game.

Speaker 3 (59:28):
If you win, it guarantees that you're now in the
playoff position. You're the number seven seed. You could move
up to the number six seed of Los Angeles lose.
They end up winning, So not the point, but you
end up being the number seven seed if you win
this football game, and it feels like, once again you're
kind of just going through the motions, you're asleep at

(59:48):
the wheel. Nobody really wants to make that big time playing,
and I understand it. I certainly get that you know
you're trying to play keep away from a team and
you don't want them to gain any momentum going into halftime.
But let me flip it to you on this perspective,
why in the hell are you not trying to gain
as much points as possible and keep momentum at an
all time high when you're out there.

Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
That is where my brain goes.

Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
So I need to see Houston put together meaningful drives
before the end of the first half. That's just a
non negotiable in my opinion. You gotta have a little
bit of momentum. You gotta have enough of a spark.
You have to show me that when you look at
where this team is, I can believe that they know
what to do when it comes to major playoff games.

(01:00:33):
Cause again, Taxans, in a few weeks, they're gonna be
in the playoffs. They may host a playoff game, they
may be on the road. The last thing I want
to see is them not be able to guarantee their
spot in terms of we now know that we are
the more superior team. Comes Sunday when we face off
against a different opponent. I think that the only question
that I have at this point when it comes to

(01:00:54):
Houston being in that postseason conversation or being a legit threat,
is honestly, they're too a warning offense. It's been very underwhelming,
to say the least, and I don't think that it's
right now in a position where you feel pretty.

Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Confident in them. The second thing, I want to see.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
This passing attack be a little bit more potent with
names outside of Nico Collins.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Now that's not to say that they can't do it.

Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
Starting to see a little bit more growth with Jaden Higgins,
We've certainly seen him. With Dalton Schultz, we know that
there is a different sufficient run game when it comes to.

Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
When it comes to Woody Marks.

Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
It's not elite, but it's sufficient, and the offensive line
has been playing better as of late.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
I won't say it's been elite. I won't. I refuse to.

Speaker 3 (01:01:35):
I gotta be able to see more weapons be utilized
outside Nico Collins. And the reason why is because when
you get into the playoffs, teams are gonna know exactly
what are your strengths and weaknesses and what are the
areas to where you just accept who you are as
a program.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
I think right now, most people look at the textans
and say, if we take away Nico.

Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
Collins, if we put him in a position to where
they're basically underwhelmingly utilizing much, we'll be fine. We go
ahead and take away the deep shot down the field,
so be it. We'll end up losing, no problem. I
want to see more. I want to see what we
envisioned for Jayden Higgins when he signed up here. I

(01:02:13):
want to see them get a little bit more involved
and it comes Dalton Schultz. I want to see them
be able to be more efficient inside the red zone.
Little things like that that go a long way. And
I want to be able to know that you have
a confidence that you don't need Nico Collins to have
a big time game for you to win. Last week
four Cats, A one hundred and twenty one yards became
the fourth time all receiver in receiving yards for the program,
surpassing Kevin Walter. Is there more than just that, because

(01:02:36):
remember you took him out in the second half. The
passing game was pretty pedestrian. You got one big pass
off to Jayden Higgins, you got one pass off to
Exavier Hodson, you got one pass off to. If I'm
not mistaken, it was what he marks out of the
backfield and that was it. Like that was it for
the game. In the second half, can you do more?
Can you get more involved with Jalen Nole? And this
is actually a game I really want to see Jalen

(01:02:58):
Nole have a bigger type performance because there comes a
point where you realize Christian Kirk's not gonna be here
long term. He'll hit free agency next offseason. You are
gonna have take Dell back. You're gonna be pretty content
on what you got when it comes to Jayden Higgins
still here, but you gotta be able to feel confident
on what you're doing in the slot. Jayden Knowle, Jalen
Knowle should be that guy. I want to see him

(01:03:20):
have a big time game. I want to see him
be connective on third down. I want to see him
be able to turn up field and make a pair
of defenders miss and he breaks some ankles while.

Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
Pushing his way forward into the midfield range. That's what
I want to see and I think you can.

Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
I think that this is one of those games where
you look back at what the metrics say and you
look back at what the numbers have justified. You should
feel pretty confident on This is not a good secondary
with Arizona. This is not a team that's playing at
one hundred percent speed. We know offensively we're going I mean, defensively,
we're gonna shut down their offense. They can only do
one thing like they've been averaging forty eight pass attempts

(01:03:56):
over the last like three games.

Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Can we match that? Can we win through the year.

Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
Can we do some things that are more specific toward
our offensive identity that end up working in a standpoint
of we are more balanced team if you show me
that you got a great red zone offense or I mean,
I bet a great two minute warning offense, and you
also are putting together meaningful drives when it comes to
the passing attack. I feel pretty confident about where this

(01:04:22):
team is. I don't need to see much else.

Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
I really don't.

Speaker 3 (01:04:26):
Defensively, you're built to win a Super Bowl Offensively. I
sat up a few questions, and I think I'm allowed
to have that. But then again, I have a lot
of questions for a bunch of other AFC teams. Seven one,
seven ninety Billy, what's on your mind?

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Dude?

Speaker 6 (01:04:39):
Hey, First, just a quick one on the Texans. I
could not agree with you more. But what I'm gonna
add to that, I want to see what he marks.
Get the ball in space. Uh, I want to see him,
you know, get the swing passes, get outside of the numbers.
That guy's got speed. Yeah, he's got elusiveness, and I'm
tired of seeing he rented the tackles. It's just not
who he is. Maybe it's Joe Mixon and they forgot

(01:05:03):
Joe Mixon doesn't hear anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
They do that.

Speaker 6 (01:05:05):
Uh, inexperienced OC as will and I'm sick of having
an inexperienced OC. But that's a whole different conversation with
the end of the day. But yeah, I'm with you
on that.

Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
This.

Speaker 6 (01:05:14):
Just give me some consistency, especially the last two minutes,
and show me what you can do on the Astros.
I've got to speak heresy, and I chose Saturday to
do it instead of during the weeks. That don't get
beat up on Facebook and on Twitter.

Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
But you know, I'm not gonna get you. You're a
lot of You're a lot of complain about whatever you want.

Speaker 6 (01:05:33):
Okay, Well, do you really think the Astros are gonna
re sign Painia.

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Oh boy.

Speaker 6 (01:05:41):
Now, now before you answer, okay, if you have a choice,
do you want Paynia or Hunter Brown.

Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
Man, you put me in a deep spot here, I
I the right answer is I want Paynia. I think
the answer that more people are gonna lean into. And
I absolutely understand it's Hunter brown It's hard to replace
an ace like that.

Speaker 6 (01:06:00):
I agree completely, But I think that you're more likely
to be able to replace the ace than you are
the short stop. But here's the thing. Let's just use
Payna for today. And I'm gonna speak absolute heresy here.
You need pitching. You had parades. Parades can play an
adequate shortstop. If he can't, you can move Korea a short.
I don't want Corea a short because we get a

(01:06:21):
little older and I want him healthy, longer. But you've
got parades. Put him at short trade Paynia. Now, maximize
the return you're gonna get for a guy of that caliber.
You're gonna get a ton for him. You want Shane
bos Go get him, Offer Paynia, you want Joe Ryan
and Byron Buxton. Offer Painia in a package. It's doable,

(01:06:45):
but much as we possibly can for him, and still
fooling ourselves for the next two years, saying Oh, we're
waking great office, We're making great office, when you're really not.
I love Dana Brown, I really do. I'm a Dana
Brown apologist. I will freely admit that I think he's
done some great things. But in this term, I think
he's throwing himself if he thinks he's gonna sign both guys,
and I think the Pain is the least likely that

(01:07:07):
is gonna be able to sign, even though I agree
he's the one you need to sign the most. But
I'm saying, maximize your return. Go get the guys you
want now, win now, because you've only got the one
that opens to twenty twenty eight. To be realistic when
you look at who's coming back and whose contracts are
ending in twenty twenty eight, and I'll hang up. Listen, guy,
you got a great show as always. I look forward
to hearing you Monday morning.

Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
Appreciate you.

Speaker 6 (01:07:28):
Billy.

Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
Okay, here's what we're gona do. We're gonna take a
time out. I'm gonna think about this because I understand
where Billy comes from.

Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
I really do.

Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
I'm going to push back for one major reason. I'll
explain the reason why on Space Aday Saturday. Next right
here on Sports Sacks seven.

Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
Ninety, it's space a Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
Right here on Sports Sucks seven ninety, Cole Thomas and
rock with you for a few more minutes seven two
seven ninety. Heis some trophy tonight who wins college football's
most covetive award. Since they're gonna win tomorrow, what's gonna
be the final score as they take on the Arizona
Cardinals and your Astros potentially looking to make a splash
trade before the end of the calendar year. Let's start there.

(01:08:10):
So for those of you that are just tuning in
for the first time, we had a caller, Billy from Katie.

Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
He's a loyal listener.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
I always appreciate his takes, and again, if you ever
want to call on in, I'll listen to your takes. Two.

Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
This is basically therapy for you for two hours.

Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Ninety saying that the Astros should trade away Jeremy Panya
because they know that right now the odds of resigning
him are slim to none. Now, I agree with one thing.
I don't think Billy is entirely off in that standpoint

(01:08:47):
of the Astros. If they don't believe that they can
get a deal done. They should consider moving off of
a quarterback. I mean of a of a shortstop that
you may feel confident in replacing, whether that be in
free agency, whether that be when it comes to personnel
around the farm system, whatever it is, you feel good,

(01:09:11):
So I can understand that. I do, and I will
say that the net gain of what you would have
in return for a guy like j Vipana after the
season he had last year through the roof, you would
get a king's ransom, or at least enough of a
net gain to where you feel you're walking away a
massive winner in this I will I will agree with
Billy on that one.

Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
I won't. Here's what we're gonna push back on two
main things.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
The first is just said escoc Parettes can play a
valuable shortstop. I completely disagree with that one. If you
were to tell me right now who is gonna be
the one on the move, it would be Estac Perettes
playing third base and Carlos Kore going a shortstop, which
I do think could work for a year. I think

(01:09:57):
it could probably even work for maybe two years. But
by the time that you're at the end of his contract.
I just don't see him being there. And also there
would be days to where you would have to sit
him or he would have to play third base, and
you would have Estac Parretes play short It just doesn't work.
I mean, I play DH it just wouldn't work. I
do not see a scenario where you can put Estac
Parretes at shortstop.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
I just don't.

Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
So it ends up hurting you because of I don't
think that you want Korea playing short all the time
for the longevity of his career standpoint, And there's been
a pretty clear understanding from the get go that if
he was going to return to Houston, it would be
to be the primary third baseman, so that also plays
a factor into it. I don't think that Korea would
be content playing shortstop. I don't think you would be

(01:10:39):
better when it comes to shortstop. So I push back
on that standpoint. The second thing I pushed back on
is with the years of arbitration that you still have
with Jerry Payna, what if you can get the value
even higher. The Astros right now I still think are
in that window of we should be good enough to
make the playoffs, we should be good enough to win

(01:10:59):
the American West. We should be good enough to win
the win in the divisional round. It's when it comes
to conference championship weekend. I think there is a clear
separation if you were to tell me right now with
where the Astros lineup is versus what they are gonna
potentially lose and what very.

Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
Little they'll add on in.

Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
And they were facing off against Baltimore, I think that
you would go to seven. I see a scenario where
the Ashhos win and they punch your ticket back to
the World Series. I also see a scenario where they
lose because Baltimore is a young, up and coming team
that has really good offensive pieces. They got better by
adding in Pete Alonzo at that first base. They got
even better in the outfield when it comes to adding
in Taylor Ward.

Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
But they don't entirely trust their pitching.

Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
I think if you were to face off against Boston,
you're probably going to lose that series right now. If
you were to face off against the Yankees, well, the
Yankee sucks, so it doesn't really matter. If them the
Blue Jays, I think you would lose that series. The Mariners,
I could see it going back and forth regardless I
still think that there is a scenario where you could
go to the World Series with the current roster you're in.
It's not great, but I still could see it as

(01:12:02):
long as that windows open. I don't think you can
let go Jeremy Pingham. He adds too much value to
your team. So if you're trading away paying it right now,
what you're saying is this is the beginning of the
end and a rebuilding. A rebuild is in the process,
and we're going to see it come sooner rather than later.
I don't think that the Astros think that way. I
think a year from now, depending on what happens with

(01:12:22):
this season, do they miss the playoffs again, do they
bring in a new manager, do we have a new
executive run on the show at GM? All those things.
I think that's when we have the conversation of are
we going to be a contender long term? Because I
look at the Astros also right now and I say
the window for them to be the favorites in the

(01:12:42):
American League West is twenty twenty six. I still have
my questions when it comes to Seattle. I think that
the Texas is going to be trading away more pieces
than bringing on it. I do think that you are
going to see the Athletics make some very minute, small
detail moves, but not anything big. They're gonna be spending
in two years when they're in Las Vegas and the

(01:13:03):
Angels suck, and the Angels are gonna suck because of
what they do with their money purposes and the fact
that they don't have a good manager and the fact
that they hold onto players for far too long and
they're trying to bank on guys hitting reesa on their
careers when they all know they should just be entering
a full on rebuild and building up that farm system.
So they're in that situation. So right now, the Astros

(01:13:23):
window is open after this season. If you want to
go ahead and move off of Jeremy Payne because you
knew you weren't gonna sign him long term, Okay, I
can't push back on that. I don't think it's right
because I would do everything possible to guarantee that he
is a part of the team long term. He is
now locked on into a new deal. But if you
don't think he is gonna be back, and you do
think that there comes a point of guys, it is

(01:13:46):
what it is. We got to do it's best for
the organization. Maybe that is trading away somebody by all
means do so, if that's gonna be the way you
go about it, I can listen to it, but I
can't listen to esuch parade's playing shortstop.

Speaker 2 (01:13:58):
I just can't do it.

Speaker 3 (01:13:59):
No way that you can sell me on that idea.
And I just can't listen to the fact that you
think that right now the window was closed. The window,
in my opinion, is open. It doesn't mean that you
shouldn't be going out and spending some money, and it
doesn't mean that you can't go out and bring in
some prominent names.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
I just and it doesn't mean that Jerremy Paning' is
gonna sign a long term It doesn't.

Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
What I do think it means, though, is if you're
getting rid of Jeremy Panga, you believe that your window
will go when a title is over. You believe that
now it's best for you to move off of a
piece that you understand is not gonna be here after
his arbitration years are up. That you're gonna let go
of him because of it's probably the best for you
and to me, I just don't see that with the Ashros.

(01:14:39):
Right now, I just don't and maybe I'm wrong, and
maybe come July we're having this conversation of asters are
five games under five hundred. They don't really have a
good identity. Their farm system is completely unloaded. At this point,
it's best for us to sell because we're not gonna
get catch up to Texas or catch up to Seattle
or the athletics.

Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
For some reason.

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
But I'm just not there yet, So I don't think
you can trade away with J. M. Pingam.

Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
The big question is there has to be a move made,
and I think that we all can agree at this
point there is a there is a hole in first base.
You're in a run when it comes to the infield
right now. I don't think anybody can argue with you
on that. There's so many questions that you have long
term about what do you do when it comes to

(01:15:26):
the text. I mean when it comes to the offense,
when it comes to the infield, when it comes to
first base, e Sak Parredes, Christian Walker, you're caught.

Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
In a rut and someone's got to be on the move.

Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
I do think that if you were to ask me today,
who is that player that won't be back come opening day.
It's sex to say it, but I think it's the
only way you can. It's e sac predes. Now, I
don't want trade E sac parades. If you ever listened
to me on morning drive, you ever listen to here,
you know that I believe that at this point, when
you see the way that he was so valuable to

(01:15:58):
the offense, especially when it came to hitting in the
two hole, working counts, letting guys like Altuv and your
and On and Korea and countless others, or or Christian
Walker get a good gauge on what pitches are being
thrown and the utilization of how he goes about his
pitch count. I think that we all could agree at
this point he's the one guy that you don't want

(01:16:20):
to let go of. I also think that we all
can agree that if there was a player that we
could move off of and get something in return that
is valuable and it solves a lot of problems, it
would be parades because number one, he is years of control,
so automatically a massive win in that standpoint. Number Two,
he would fill a void for a team that's looking

(01:16:42):
to replace its corner infielder so he would still be
staying at third base, which again right now is a
problem for the text, I mean for the Astros, because
you got a third baseman and other teams are looking
for a first third baseman, So he would have moved
on over to first and you wouldn't moved him on
inside to the You wouldn't move him on inside to
the middle of endfield. So got another one in that standpoint.

(01:17:03):
And the third thing is is that you get a
pretty net significant return. Now is it gonna be the
Red Sox So maybe if it is the Red soxer's
I will say, I'm not going after a pitcher. I'm
going after an outfielder. I'm targeting will or bray you.
I think that's a move to where you could end
up walking away both a lot better shooting for it.
If you get an extra picture in return, still be it.

(01:17:26):
But I think if you want to go ahead and
fill up the void of what you have at first,
but I mean what you have with the infield conundrum
and what you need in the outfield, you gotta feel
pretty good about.

Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
Landing a will You or bray you. He now can
move on over to the left field.

Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
You've put Zach Cole in centerfield you have Cam Smith,
and the right field you didn't field a secure that
would be it. But I also think that there's some
other moves that you can make out there to where
there are teams interested in adding in a player up
part as his potential, to where you could get some
starting pitching. You could feel pretty good about where the
direction of the team is going, and you feel like
that you've added in a piece that you are probably

(01:17:58):
gonna be okay with losing if he were to leaving
free agency.

Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
Regardless, though I don't think that Jeremy Pan can be moved,
not this season.

Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
If you're moving him this season, I do think that
you're signaling to the rest of the fan base and
to everyone out there the end of the asters of
how we've known them for the last what would it
be ten years, how they've played up to this point,
how they are expected to be the favorites in the
I mean in the division.

Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
Those days are done.

Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
Now everything is just about us hitting the small rebuild,
kind of a slight reset, and hopefully building up our
farm system to where two or three years from now
we could be right back in the conversation opening the division,
which may not be promised, because again I'm telling you,
I believe that come two or three years from now,
the athletics are going to take over this league. You've
got to be able to gain enough traction to stay
in the conversation for a wild card berth. But the

(01:18:47):
Adlies have a very young core in place, and a
very talented one that's only going to get better with
more repetition. Seven ninety. There's a name that I'm bringing
up for the Heisman Trophy tonight, and there's a reason
I'm bringing him up. It's not because I think he's
going to win the award. I'll explain why as we
close out Space Day Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
Run after this.

Speaker 1 (01:19:08):
Space A Saturday closing on out here right on.

Speaker 3 (01:19:11):
Sports Talk seven ninety, Cole Tompson with you for a
few more minutes. Seven one, threw one two five, seven ninety.
If you watch time on in Texan's looking and move
to nine and five. They win on Sunday over the
Arizona Cardinals. Your astros looking to make a trade before
the end of the calendar year, and there are going
to be a ton of people upset with whoever wins

(01:19:33):
the Heisman Trophy. Tonight, and that's where we're gonna go
seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety so
foeig names are up for the award. The first is
Ohio State quarterback Julian Saying, the second one is quarterback
for Nando Mendoza from Indiana, the third is Vadabilt quarterback
Diego Pavia, and the fourth is Notre Dame running back
Jeremiah Love. Somebody is going to win the award for

(01:19:53):
college football's most coveted honor.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
Now I'm gonna start with this.

Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
I've reached a point of signify and there's been some
people who are online who have brought this up to
my attention, and so I want to make sure that
I mentioned this. We have to change the name of
the Heisman Trophy did the best offensive player in the country,
because if we're just gonna pretend that a defensive player
is ever going to win the award, it's a sham.
Since this was the first time I believe personally there

(01:20:18):
should have been a defensive player that was invited to
New York City over a quarterback. Jacob Rodriguez from Texas
section have at least been invited to New York.

Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
He's been phenomenal this year.

Speaker 3 (01:20:27):
He has been the backbone for a team that right
now is trying to win its first national title underneath
Joey maguire. In my opinion, the reason why you can
believe a lot of stock in this Texas Tech team
is because of its defense. And he's not even gonna
have an accolade to go to New York. He was
the fifth out of vote. He was the fifth guy
in terms of voting. He should have been in the
top four, or if you're gonna have at least four,

(01:20:48):
then have a fifth and let Jacob Ardriguez go. But
now all you're signaling is this is a quarterback award
and everyon wants.

Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
A blue moon.

Speaker 3 (01:20:54):
It's an offensive award, but ninety nine point nine was
at the time. It's quarterback award, all right. Now onto
the actual point. And by the way, for those year
who said, well, Travis Travis Hunter won the award last
season he was a defensive player. Sure, I guess if
you want to go with that, you can, but he
really wasn't. It was much like we saw with Charles
Woodson stuff. Okay, back to the actual point. The reason
I'm bringing up the Heisman is because I believe that

(01:21:16):
the Texans need to add in one of the four
players this year, come next April in the draft. If
I'm the Texans, if I have the draft capitol, I'm
moving up to get jere of my love. I'm adding
him to this offense. Let's just start off with this
number one. I do not think that Nick Kayley is
going to be gone next year. I believe he will
be calling plays for CJ. Strouding Company in twenty twenty six.

(01:21:39):
You can go ahead and argue with me all you want.
You could say, well, Cole, the offensive numbers have not
been great, that's cool, story, bro.

Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
I don't think it matters.

Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
They are going to have Nick Kaylee back as their
offense coordinator in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
I just start there.

Speaker 3 (01:21:52):
The second thing is, I do not believe, as of
right now this moment, Joe mc when we be back
with the Texans. So therefore you're gonna need to add
in a running back. Joe Mixon was good for last season.
I think that potentially there was a scenario to where
if he came back this year, you could see him
get the rest of his contract with what it's going

(01:22:14):
to be in terms of the buyout for next year
and the fact that he's coming off of major injury
that costs him an entire season. I just do not
see a scenario where you're putting a lot of faith
that he will be your starting running back in twenty
twenty six. The third thing is, I think what he
marks is a very good running back. I think the
way that he's been able to handle the load as
the number one this season has been phenomenal, and it
shows you the value of who he is as a player.

Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
I think he's better suited as a number two.

Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
If you're asking a guy to go ahead and get
to twenty eight carries per game when he's averaging two
point six yards of carry, which were his numbers last week,
that's a signal of one of two things. Either number one,
the inability to run the football is prevalent because your
offensive line is not that good, or number two, there's
a certain limitation that what you have as as a player,
and I think that we're kind of.

Speaker 1 (01:23:01):
In that teetering range of it.

Speaker 3 (01:23:03):
Jeremiah Love, I think it would be a game changer
if you're adding him to this offense that already features
a Nico Collins and you're adding him to an offense
that is going to be more explosive when it comes
to the passing attack next year. Because I do really
like what you have with Jayden and Higgins and Jalen Nole.
You get a solid run game in there. I think
you're throwing much guy defensively, because a lot of the
guys that you're gonna have that are gonna hit free

(01:23:23):
agency you can either replace with younger, up and coming names,
or they're gonna be pretty team friendly and cost affordable
to where you probably can just resign them on a
one year deal and push the kick the can down
the road and replacing defensive talent. It's really hard for
me not to envision a world where Jeremiah Love, who's
averaging six point eight yards of play, he arguably is
as talented as a running back as Ashton Gent, and

(01:23:47):
is probably going to fall down the wayside because of
there are other major needs like wide receiver and offensive
tackle and defensive back to where he would be in
arrange to where the Texans could easily trade on up,
give up a third round pick, and finally bring in
a solid, stable running back option that elevates the offensive

(01:24:09):
personnel that gives you, I think, a second identity that
you can trust when he's out there and fully healthy.
It's really hard for me to envision any other scenario
where this is not the player that Houston and Nick
Cassario should be targeting come this time in April. I
genuinely believe that last season over sixteen hundred rushing yard

(01:24:30):
I mean over thirteen hundred rushing yards, over sixteen hundred
total yards, twenty one total touchdowns, six point eight yards
per playing. The dude does everything at an elite level,
and at this moment, the Texans offense is not able
to run the football at an efficient enough rate. I
have to see them be able to give me a
little bit more on the ground. And I think that

(01:24:51):
if you're able to fix the offensive line and free agency,
which means probably bringing back in at Ingram and then
building off of whatever you need at the center position,
which you don't draft to center in the first round,
just don't nless.

Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
It's like a Tyler Lindebaum adding all.

Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
That together and then throwing into Jeremiah Love in your backfield.
To me, it screams that you not only have a
good offense and a good defense, but you have both
balance on either side of the ball that you can
trust is going to eventually guarantee that you are viewed
as a legit threat in the AFC, one at the
highest level. Jeremiah Love may not win the Heisman Trophy tonight,

(01:25:25):
but I hope he wins over Texans fans. So where
everyone is clamoring come this time in April, he is
suiting up for the Texans and he's standing on the
stage that is for Space Day Saturday. Specially thanks Frankie
western Moreland for producing. I will see you on Monday,
six am after a Texans victory on the Morning Drive
with Dan.

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Have an address of your weekend.
