Speaker 1 (00:00):
Space A Saturday rolls little right along here on Sports
Talk seven to ninety. Rockets drop the game last night
to the San Antonio Spurs. Your Cougars find a way
to win on the road in the Bounce House against
UCF and your Texans. Well they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars,
and for that, we head out to the guest line
and welcome in Taylor Dall. She's the host of Helmets

(00:22):
and Heels on ten ten XL. Give her follower follow
on social media at tay Doll ten ten XL.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
All right, Taylor, let's start off with this thing.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
We know that we're not going to see any of
Brian Thomas Junior and tomorrow's matchup, which means newly acquired
Jacobe Myers is probably going to have a bigger role
than expected. What are your overall expectations for the former
Las Vegas Raiders receiver who was joining the team on Tuesday?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Hey, col first, thanks for having me on. I was
fully expecting some sort of jab at the Cubs or
Notre Dame or something.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
We have another fifteen minutes, Please wait.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
For the for the punchline. Come on in. It's gonna
come quick.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Promise Yeah, so obviously it was it was kind of
expected that a move at wide receiver would happen in
some form. The room. The past catching room in general
is super beat up. We haven't had Jacks, haven't had
Burton Strange in a while. He's not due to even
be activated until November sixteenth, and we don't even know
what it will look like at that point. Obviously, Also,

(01:20):
Travis Hunter goes to IR. Then Brian Thomas Junior has
heard Deammy Brown was in concussion protocol, so there was
all sorts of injuries going on and lingering in that room,
so there had to be a move made. It just
so happened that. Now this is the third time that
James Glanstone has gone and played a team and then
signed a player the week or two after they played

(01:41):
that team, So it's very interesting how he works in
that way. But I do think we see a decent
amount of Jacoby Myers. I think he's kind of the
guy he plays a pretty even amount between it was
slot and out on the boundary, which I think the
Jaguars do need when it comes to one of some
of those guys that will take a hit in the middle.
We've heard the criticism of Brian Thomas Junior kind of
shot away from some of those balls up the middle

(02:02):
when there's going to be contact made, and so that's
kind of Jacobe Meyer's forte is going after that and
not being afraid to take a hit. Yes, sure hands.
He has one of the lowest drop rates in the NFL,
which has been another problem in the Jaguars locker room
and on the field. So hopefully that is something you
see right away. I also think that the big name
when it comes to the wide receivers with all of

(02:23):
these injuries and honestly without this year, has been Parker Washington.
So I think that's the name you're gonna hear quite
a bit on Sunday, Taylor.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
I got to ask, I understand that you guys are
sitting at five and three. That's a good record for
Liam Cohen year one, James Gladstone. Defensively, well, you haven't
been able to get pressure on the quarterback. You've been
able to at least create opportunities with the turnover margin.
But I just feel like right now something is missing
in Jacksonville. Like they are a play away from losing
to Houston. They're a play away from loosing to Las Vegas.

(02:53):
They don't get that touchdown unless somehow, some way they
touch Trevor Lawrence in the backfield against Kansas City one.
So what's been the reason that this team is just
like kind of a cockroach and not want to die?

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, And even going back to the Raiders last week,
that final play, you know, that final drive for Pete
Carroll decided to go for two. He could have tied
it and just tied the game, and then that looks
a little bit different too. Or if technically they get
the two point conversion, which there was two open receivers
in the end zone and that could have happened. It
just so happened that Devon Hamilton got his hands on
the ball and those final seconds. But I do We've

(03:28):
been trying to kind of figure this out too, what
this team is, what the identity is, how good they
actually are, And every single week call we've had the
same conversation of what is this team? And we're we're
pretty much halfway through the season and we don't know yet.
It's kind of flip flopped. In the beginning of the season,
the defense was saving a lot of the games. They
were getting a lot of turnovers and they were scoring.

(03:50):
You know, we saw Devin Lloyd go back and get
a pick six, and those kind of magical things were
happening defensively, and then it flopped and the defense has
kind of turned turned around in the sense of a
lot of injuries have factored into that, but they just
haven't really played well in the back end at all.
And to your point, they're really not getting a ton
of pressure. Josh Vinz Allen is towards the top of

(04:11):
the league in pressures, but he just can't close any
of those out, so the sacks haven't been coming. But
then the last few weeks we see a little bit
more out of the offense, especially the run game, and
that's kind of been what makes this offense tick. So
if I were to say what is the saving grace
that has got them to this point of the winning record,
I would honestly say stopping the run and running the ball.

(04:32):
Those are the two things that the Jacks have done
pretty consistently, and when they lean into those, it's won
them some football games. And it's kind of that's what
showed even this last week.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Taylor Trevor Lawrence, he still is an anomaly and we're
going into year five. I mean, you sign him to
the long term extension. He's not the GM's pick at quarterback.
That was a move made by a Trent ball Key
to sign him to the extension. It was a move
made by Doug Maron to sign him to the extension.
Liam Cohen has him as a quarterback. And again they're
sitting at five and three. Is there still a sense

(05:03):
of if things don't turn pretty quickly and we start
to see him being the reason why you're winning games,
that maybe there'll be conversations in the offseason of hey,
let's see if somebody is willing or kind of desperate
enough to pick up this contract and we hit reset
with all this draft compensation that we have.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
We've had the conversation you could ask. You could go
to a bar in Jacksonville and ask a group of
people sitting together, what do you think of Trevor Lawrence
And one person's going to say, I love him, and
it's just the line's been bad, and he's had bad
coaching and everyone drops the ball and you just need
to give him some a little more help and he
could be one of the better quarterbacks in the league.
You could ask the person sitting besides that person, and

(05:43):
they'll say, trade him right now, he's a bust. Everything sucks.
And then you could ask the next person and they'll say,
I have no idea, and I think there's more to
be seen, but we maybe this is it. Maybe this
is the Trevor Lawrence you'll see where there's some really
really good plays, really good throws, and then there's just
moments where you still ask what was that? And so
I do think that we've had the conversation a lot

(06:04):
because Trevor Lawrence got his contracts from Trent Balky before
the twenty twenty four season started, and we've all talked like,
would James Gladstone have What would that conversation look like
right now for James Gladstone if Trevor Lawrence wasn't given
that contract. And also, James Gladstone comes from the Rams
who made that huge move to trade Jared Goff for

(06:24):
Matthew Stafford not long ago, so he's not scared to
get rid of one of those young quarterbacks. Here Goff
went to the Super Bowl and he said, hey, we
need something else. So we've definitely had the conversation enough.
At the end of the year, there's still all of
the question marks. Even though things had been built around
and they invested in the offensive line, they get that
what you know, that play calling a head coach and

(06:45):
one that did really well down in Tampa with Baker
Mayfield and really made them one of the more high
powered offenses in the NFL. You get them weapons, you
do everything you can to help Trevor Lawrence. The run
game gets going. So there's still questions at the end.
I think that James Gladstone honestly does have some conversations
what that looks like to and what moving on could

(07:06):
possibly look.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Like she's tailored to.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
I'll give her a follow on social media at Tay
Doll ten ten XL, host of Helmets and Heels on
ten ten XL in Jacksonville, Taylor, we got Davis.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Mills starting in this game. No CJ. Stroud, He's out.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Davis Mills has somewhat surprisingly when you look at the numbers,
not been great except when he plays against.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
The Jacksonville Jaguars. He's two and one in his career.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
He has a complettion percentage at sixty eight point two
percent a touchdown, a interception ratio of two to one.
Do you follow into the backup theory where when there's
not enough film onny quarterback, that can create some opportunities
to where a team that maybe is rolling at the
right time stubs its toe and ultimately leads to another
opponent finding a way to get the upset win.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
It's an interesting conversation, and especially for the Jaguars. For
whatever reason, the Jags have struggled against backup quarterbacks. They
lost to Jake Browning when he came in. Joe Flacco
went out early, I mean sorry, Joe Burrow got hurt
early in that game, and then Jake Browning came in
and the Jags ended up letting Jake Browning kind of
do whatever at whatever he wanted against the defense. So

(08:12):
they have some weird thing with backup quarterbacks. And I
do think there's something to it where if you really
don't have a lot of film to study against her,
if you were focusing on the starting quarterback, then maybe
that alters some things. But I will say in this case,
the Jacks have faced Davis Mills before and he was decent,

(08:32):
not great, but he got down the field a couple
times on the Jags, and so I think they do
have a little bit of film there, and also having
the week rather than finding out on Sunday. Let's say CJ.
Stroud goes down mid game and then Davis comes out.
I think that looks a little bit different, but I
do think at least they have a little bit of
a game plan towards him. But yeah, they struggle against

(08:53):
those backup quarterbacks. So that's also been a conversation with Jacksonville.
Don't let this guy beat you this weekend because he
can Taylor.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
There's two offensive linemen out for the Texans in this game,
both on the right side, with no Titus Howard, no
ed Ingram.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
If you were to say right.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Now, who needs to have a game of his life
to win this one and improve Jacksonville's record of six
and three on the defensive line, who is that? Excluding
Josh heinz Allen, Yeah, I want to go with Eric Armstead.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Eric Armstead was a big signing a couple of years ago,
and you just really haven't seen that forty nine ers
Eric Armstead yet in Jacksonville. He actually leaves the league
in sacks, but it's just been very quiet other than that,
and I think that it's something that Jaguars fans want
to see that interior getting some pass rush and getting
in the middle. And I know you mentioned that the

(09:43):
tackles being out, I have a feeling that they'll probably
add a little chip help to keep Josh fines Allen away.
Trayvon's been hurt. He had a club on his wrist,
he had surgery, so he just hasn't really been full
Trayvon Walker and because of that, you've had to see
a little bit more or ask a little bit more
out of that. So I think a game where Eric
Armstead really starts to kind of shine and see the

(10:06):
pieces that you've seen from him that we haven't in Jacksonville,
I think that's a big thing, and I think jackson
fans are also just waiting on that and Eric Armstead is.
But I know also Josh vinz Allen you said without him,
but he has a half a sack away from setting
the franchise record in Jacksonville. So that's going to be
a big focus this weekend.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Taylor just had a curiosity. I meant to ask this
a little bit earlier in the show. What's it like
to have a team that you root for and not
have to worry about playing in a division, and therefore
they're already given the benefit of the doub because Notre
Dame doesn't belong inside the top ten of the College
Football Playoff rankings. But still, somehow someway the number nine,
even though they have a head to head loss against.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Miami, who comes at number eighteen. Can you explain that lot?

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, the Miami part is what shocks me. I think
that if you've watched Notre Dame football this year, which
I'm sure you have, I know you watch a lot
of football games, I think they're a good team, and
I think unfortunately you throw those first two games Miami
and Texas A, and m at them and CJ car
first starts. I want to play them now. I think
Notre Dame would absolutely dominate Miami right now, and I

(11:06):
think they beat Texas A and m right now. So
I wish we could have a redo on that. It
does stuff that it was the first two games. But
I totally get people being curious about the Miami side
of it, because I don't fully understand how they're eighteenth.
If Notre Dame's that high, I guess an SMU lost
doesn't help, But I honestly was fully expecting Notre Dame
to drop more once that loss happened. I guess the

(11:27):
eye test and the brand is helping a little bit
this year, okay.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
And then of course I have to ask, how does
it feel to root for an organization in baseball that
traded for a Astros player, gave up their top prospect,
give a really good picture, gave up an exceptional guy
on third base who is now becoming cornerstone for this franchise,
and your reward is a loss in the why in
the divisional round and you don't even get to have
Kyle Tucker back next year?

Speaker 2 (11:51):
How you feeling, bud?

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yeah? I get frustrated with the Cubs. We've talked about
this all season, and I think that they're a cheap organization.
They try and go about it at the easy route
all the time. Eventually they're just going to have to
spend money. I don't know if that will ever happen though,
but I will take what they did in the divisional
round the way it went, because I wasn't expecting it
the way that after All Star Break looked. I thought

(12:15):
that we were definitely going to get knocked out of
the wildcard round. Got through that and then took it
to that, you know, game five, So I wish we
had done more, but unfortunately, I don't think the Cubs
are ever going to spend so I kind of have
to get used to this mediocre life.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
I feel like, Okay, Taylor, I'll get you out of
here on this. What happens first the Cubs when another
World Series, or Marcus Freeman realizes he can't win it
Notre Dame and goes the SEC.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
Oh no. So my hot take on that though, is
I think the only way Marcus Freeman's leaving is to
go to Ohio State. So I think that maybe we
get that Ryan Day on the hot seat conversations again.
The biggest name that's going to be talked about is
Marcus Freeman. But other than that, unless it's like ten
fifteen more years, I think Freeman's here for a while.

(12:59):
So I guess I'll say the Cubs win a World Series.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Okay, So we both know that both of those are
never gonna happen, so it's.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Okay, everything, We'll be fine.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
You'll never see a championship come to South Bend, and
you'll never see one come to Wrigley Field. Thirty seconds
or last final score for Sunday's game out in Houston.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Oh yeah, this is a difficult one for me because
I can go a lot of different ways, but I
honestly think it'll be like a twenty four to twenty
Jags win.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
I respect it, I can see it. I don't respect
that you have an organization that won't pay show to Imonaga.
But you know what, maybe he'll come to Houston and you'll.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Be benefited for it.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
It's all good.

Speaker 1 (13:33):

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Thank you for.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Putting up my malarkey and my bs and I appreciate
you and for being a great friend, but more so
also just a person.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
By the way, who are you going to see? Who's
getting hired at Florida? Who is getting hired at Florida?

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Yeah? I mean everybody I feel like is on the
Lane train, But there's other names. The Drinkowitz is coming
up a lot. Florida fans don't seem to love that one.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Who do you want?

Speaker 3 (14:06):
But I want Lane because I'm not a Florida fan.
I could care less about the Gators, but at least
Lane Kiffin would give me like good content and be
fun to cover, because Billy Napier was the most boring
coach in the entire world to have to listen to
like press conferences and covers. So at least give me
some coach that will give us some good quotes.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
I hate to be the bearer bad news. Eli Drinkwitz
is gonna look great in orange and blue.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
She's Taylor Dog.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
He fall on social media does great content all throughout
the Florida region. You don't want to miss it, Ty
Doll ten ten Taylor appreciate you as always.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Thanks cool, all right,
