Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sunny when I was six point five. It's Johanna and
Sean and we have to let everybody know this morning
about an upcoming event coming up quick April fifteenth, and
Las Vegas residents are invited to attend this free event.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
The Alzheimer's Foundation of America is going to be hosting
a free Alzheimer's education conference here in Vegas. Might be
particularly of interest to our residences because here in Nevada
we are greatly affected by this. In fact, the growth
rate of Alzheimer's cases is one of the fastest in
the nation here in Nevada, and here to help us
learn more about this, Chris Schneider. He is the director
(00:34):
of Media Relations for the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Good morning, Chris,
Good morning.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Great to you with you guys.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Thanks Chris for joining us. So tell us about this
event on April fifteenth. Who can attend and what can
they expect.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
So this is part of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's
National Educating Across America Tour, where we bring free educational
conferences about Alzheimer's and caregiving into communities nationwide. So we're
coming to Las Vegas on April fifteen. The conference takes
place from ten am to one pm. It's free, it's
open to everybody. All you have to do is visit
(01:06):
ALZFDN dot org to sign up, and it's going to
take place at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Convention Center,
which is at thirty six hundred Paradise Road in Las Vegas.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Awesome, and we know that knowledge is a useful and
powerful tool, especially with something like Alzheimer's. Now tell us
a little bit, Chris on what people can expect at
the event.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
So you're going to get a whole bunch of different
information that can empower you to make the situation of
dealing with Alzheimer's disease, whether it's you're living with it,
whether a family member's living with it, whether you work
with people as a professional and serve people who have
dementia related illnesses, or if you just want to learn
more about brain health. So again, there's something for everybody here.
(01:46):
So one of the first things you're going to learn
about is different neuropsychiatric symptoms in Alzheimer's disease, things like agitation, aggression, hallucination,
some of the most challenging behaviors that a caregiver would
have to deal with and certainly something that's challenging for
somebody who's experiencing them as well if they have Alzheimer's disease.
So doctor Dylan Wynt, who is the medical director at
(02:09):
the Cleveland Clinic Nevada, he's going to provide an overview
of what these symptoms are, but also how you can
deal with them. So he'll provide an explanation on what
they are, why they may occur, how they exhibit themselves,
but also steps that you can take to address them.
And the next session is going to be led by
a clinical psychologist also from the Cleveland Clinic Luuvo Center
(02:31):
for Brain Health, and she's going to teach you how
to understand and manage these different dementia related behaviors as
a caregiver. And finally, the last session is going to
provide two sides of the dementia journey, and one speaker
is somebody who is a caregiver and the other speaker
is actually someone who's living with Alzheimer's Alzheimer's disease, So
(02:53):
they're going to provide their different perspectives on the dementia
journey and try to educate people and let them sort
of step inside the shoes of those who are living
with it and those who are caring for somebody who's
living with the disease. So again, something for everybody here.
All you have to do to join us on April
fifteenth is visit our website at ALZFDN dot orgon register.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Chris, this is really helpful, powerful stuff. I like many
people have dealt with this firsthand with grandparents that have
been affected by Alzheimer's and dementia, and I think empowering
our listeners with learning some of the things to look
out for is going to go a long way, as
well as everything else you guys are covering in this
particular educational conference. So thank you very much for doing
what you're doing. Is there any place other than the
(03:37):
website that you've mentioned where our listeners can maybe follow
the idea of social media that might be a good
resource for people.

we're on x Just search Alzheimer's Foundation of America you'll
find us. But more importantly, if you are caring for somebody,
if you have questions, if you need support, if you're
