Speaker 1 (00:00):
Should teenagers have to get summer jobs? It's sunny. When
I was six point five, I'm sean. So my sister
in law, Correne is asking about her fourteen year old
daughter and whether or not she should get a summer job.
I had one at fourteen. For four years, I worked
in the concession stand at a water park. Not the
hardest job, not the easiest job, but it was like

(00:21):
nineteen ninety nine. I was making eight or nine bucks
an hour. I felt like a king. Right. I'm not
saying everyone needs to get a job. Maybe your goals
are different, but at some point you got to start
learning about yourself, about responsibility, work ethic. Not saying you
got to be in a coal mine or become an
accountant at fourteen, but you got to start figuring that
stuff out at some point. Right, let's go to Corey.

(00:42):
You were the first person to call in. What do
you think teenagers? So they all get summer jobs?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Teenagers need to enjoy their life. I worked when I
was younger, and I've regread it like, listen to all
I do now is an adult is work? You're a
young Listen to me. Enjoy every summer, be as care
free for as long as you can, because once you start,
you went going to want to.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
But you're breaking up a little bit there, Corey. But
I think what you're trying to say there is that
you got your whole life ahead of you to work,
and you know stress is coming down the roads, so
don't worry about it right now?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah, exactly?

Speaker 1 (01:13):
All right? Well, I mean, but you you've turned out okay, right,
I think so. I think I turned out okay too.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Anyway, let's take some more calls on this. Thank you, Corey, Oh,
thank you. Yeah you got it. Seven oh two, seven
nine six, one oh six five Sunny one o six
point five. Las Vegas is best variety of the eighties,
nineties and today Good Morning gets Sean. Should teens have
to get a summer job? My sister in law is

(01:42):
concerned about her fourteen year old daughter's use of time
here this summer. I mean I had a summer job,
but might not be for everybody, Melissa. What do you
think should should teams be working or I don't know, relaxed,
take the summer off, be a kid?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Team should get a summer job, you know, save money
for college, learn a good work and then you know,
have fun at the end of the workday like a
regular person.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Is that is that how it worked when you were
when you were at Seede.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I had a job when I was in high school
and all through college, and it was just like the best.
It made some money and I learned a lot.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
You know what I worked at in a restaurant. I
mean I was in Applebee's, but that was in college.
But yeah, I mean the camaraderie was great. I made
some lifelong friends there, and I think everyone should have
to work on at least the service industry for a
little bit, just to appreciate it. Melissa up a great,
great opinion. Thank you for the call today. Thanks you
got it coming up next going sixty minutes commercial free
to start your workday and getting you some Universal Studios

(02:40):
tickets with the name drop. At eight forty you're listening
to Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Sean. I'm Sonny one.
I was six point five Sonny one. I was six
point five Las Vegas's best variety of the eighties nineties
and today it's Sean. My sister in law is in
our family group text asking if her fourteen year old
daughter should be getting a summer job she's just starting
high school. I had one all four years of high school.

(03:03):
But you know, maybe that's not the same opinion today, Lacey,
what do you think, thanks for calling in. Should teens
be working or like enjoying the summer?

Speaker 4 (03:10):
I personally think that they should enjoy the summer off.
I think, like it's so interesting because like as an adult,
like you know, we're like working year round and year
round and year round, and like when you're young, that
there's like one opportunity to have some time off and
relax and enjoy something. So I think they should take advantage.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Of the fact that they have time, and they shouldn't
do with a lot.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Okay, so you don't think it's really necessary to have
a job to learn about life then, but I think taking.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
The summer often, like doing stuff you like, is also
learning about life.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
That's fair. By finding your hobbies, you your passions, building
memories and social experiences, I get.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
It, having memories that's also part of life.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Yeah, And I would say a lot of us would
say our best memories are from you know, being a
teen too, But I would also say why not both, right,
why can't you you know, get a job but also
take time off to make those memories. But thank thank you, lazy,
thank you got it coming up nine forty, gonna get
your backstage with new kids on the block. Keep it
here on Sunny Window six point five, Suny six point five,

(04:20):
Sunny Window six point five, Las Vegas's best variety of
the eighties nineties. And today, good morning. It's sean, So
it is heating up here in the valley and as
as temps rise, sort of the odds that you might
find a dryer sheet randomly inside of your mailbox, now
it's actually not that random. If you happen to find
a dryer sheet in your mailbox, don't be creeped out,
and I mean definitely don't remove it. Your mailman's gonna

(04:42):
thank you. Here's why, once it warms up, once it
gets real hot, bugs, you know, pests, things like wasps,
yellow jackets, things that like to bite you. They like
to hide out in places that are dark and cozy,
like a mailbox. And it's cooler in there too. Now
they will hang out there, unless, of course, there's something
in there that they don't like, like a scented dryer sheet.

(05:03):
And there are some mailmen that will keep a box
of dryer sheets in their truck. They keep them handy
just for mailboxes that seem to attract nests of those kinds.
So if you find a dryer sheet in your mailbox,
leave it in there. Maybe your mailman put it in
there and do them a favor. Maybe put one in
yourself if you are trying to keep the pests away
from your friendly neighborhood mailman. Sonny one was six point five.

(05:28):
Looking ahead, It's still gonna get you into Universal Studios
at seven forty eight forty with the name Drop and
then at nine forty a chance to get backstage with
new Kids on the Block.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Wake up with Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Seohn on
Sonny one, oh six point five.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Now apparently we are all getting drowsy before lunchtime even
gets here. It's Sonny Win was six point five. I'm Sean,
I got some helpful hints for you here. Now, one
in three of us, according to a new survey, is
drained before we even get to noon. And what do
we blame for that? Well, lots of things, lack of sleep, stress,
other things at your job too, like dealing with office

(06:03):
gossip that sidetracks you. Maybe co workers venting showing you
a bunch of posts on their phones that could take
a while too, right, but they found the average American
starts to fade around eleven fifty four am, right before lunch. Now,
most of us go for like a quick caffeine fix, right,
more coffee, thinking that's gonna help. But experts are saying
better than coffee, water is what you need to be

(06:25):
reaching for. That's gonna keep your energy up there. Now,
we average five point three cups a day, which is
well below the recommended fifteen cups of water. And frankly,
we all need to be drinking more as it gets
hotter and hotter here in the valley. So if you
start to feel your energy slipping away from you before lunch,
don't grab another cup of coffee you've probably had several already.
Go for the water. It's gonna hydrate you and help

(06:47):
keep that energy up. Sunny Windows six point five, Sonny
six point five. Now, if you're a parent in Las Vegas,
you would probably assume that we spend more money than
most other cities on raising a child, and that's actually
not the case. Surprisingly, it's Sunnyweto six point five. My
name is Sean I will admit that I actually agreed

(07:08):
with that sentiment. But SmartAsset dot Com did a very
detailed study of every single state on the cost of
raising a child and a household with two working adults,
and they looked at things like childcare, housing costs, food transportation,
medical costs, and other necessities. Now, the average spend a
year across the country twenty six thousand dollars a year,

(07:32):
and here in Las Vegas slightly below that, around twenty
five thousand, one hundred dollars a year spent to raise
a child. Now, I'm not saying that's cheap. I'm saying
it's about nine hundred dollars less than the rest of
the country. Now, the most expensive city in the country
to raise a child Boston, Massachusetts, at close to forty
thousand dollars a year for a single child, and the

(07:53):
least expensive Birmingham, Alabama, at around nineteen thousand dollars a year.
Sunny Moto six This is Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Sean.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
On Sunny one of six point five.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Sunny One of six point five Las Vegas's best variety
the eighties nineties, and today it's Sean, I Got your
sunny Story of the day. Now, things like teamwork, discipline,
work ethic, all of these things are built in high
school sports, and local students here in Nevada are going
to have even more options in the next couple of years.
The Nevada Interscholactic Activities Association has announced the last week

(08:29):
that it will officially sanction boys and girls lacrosse beginning
with the twenty twenty six twenty twenty seven academic years. Now,
there are several Nevada high schools that have club lacrosse teams,
but the schools themselves don't sponsor it. I mean, this
is something that lawmakers have been pushing for for a while,
and what it's going to do is give the players

(08:50):
more resources, more oversight, basically just an overall better experience.
More information on how this is going to be rolling
out in the next couple of weeks. Of course, will
keep you updated with any of the major changes. It's

Golden Knights. It's sunny one of six point five. I'm Sean.
We talked about this and our sunny story of the
day last Friday. Derek England, former VGK defender, got inducted
into the Southern Novata Sports Hall of Fame. Not just him,
five other inductees into the twenty twenty five class, including
swimming coach Ron eight Ken, WNBA pioneer Renee Brown, BMX

(09:38):
legend TJ. Lavin, and longtime local sports leaders Horace Smith
and Rick Trosdahl. But that's not it does not end
there for VGK fans. Jack Eichel of the Golden Knights
just named to Team USA's preliminary roster for the twenty
twenty six Winter Olympics in Italy. It's gonna be his
first Olympic appearance and he's joining just an amazing lineup

(10:00):
that includes Austin Matthews and the Kachuck Brothers. Eichel's been
on fire lately too, I mean, he helped lead Team
USA to the finals in that four Nations face off recently.
Full roster doesn't even come out until early next year,
so getting that nod to this early huge honor for
