Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sunny when I was six point five.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is Johanna and and Sean and we love Women's
History Month that We've been so honored to bring back
our annual Women Who Shine program sponsored by Wow car
Wash and this year we have highlighted women from all industries,
all walks of life making Southern Nevada a better place.
And another incredible woman, Grace is our studio this morning, Sean.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Sa Good morning to Serene Aguila from Beauty by Serene.
Now you're not only are you a business owner, You've
done like so much other stuff around town.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah. So I've been a makeup artist for six years.
The same year that I started doing makeup, Yeah, I
became a professional cheerleader for the Vagas School Tonight Awesome
and I also backup danced Forsilo Green. I also did
two years with the Las Vegas aces O. That same
year or the same time I was a Viva. We

(00:51):
also won the Stanley Cup. Wow men, just last year
for the aces we want a championship. So the experiences
like are so abundant and uh yeah that's your top.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
On top of all that, you're a mom too.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I am also a mom to a beautiful two year
old named Ellie Leanna. We're currently potty training right now.
So that kind of explains the trajectory of my life
kind of crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Listen, It's very relatable to a lot of people out there,
and that's why we're so honored to be able to
talk with you today because you've done so much here
in southern Nevada and then now you are a business owner.
So tell us how that kind of came to be.
Why did you decide to start beauty by Serene?

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, so in the dance world, we are constantly doing
hair and makeup, yeah, anything in full glam, and I
loved being the teammate to help everyone out in that sure,
they would always come to me for advice, and I
think that's where my love for makeup and beauty just came. Yeah,
I started. I committed to it at the same that
a year after I had my daughter. Okay, she is

(01:54):
the reason why I wanted to create a business and
have something for myself, so she can have someone to
look up to and exceed in like ways that you
could never even like imagine for yourself. Right, I pictured
myself dancing for a really long time until my love
for makeup became even higher than what it was for dance. Sure,
dancing is really hard. I obviously don't didn't think I

(02:14):
was going to dance for the rest of my life.
It's so physically demanding it is. And makeup, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
I just making people feel beautiful, something that's like timeless, right, yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
I mean it's it's definitely timeless. And it's always a
career that's going to be demanding in the entertainment world. Sure,
so I wanted to be in something that still allowed
me to be in entertainment yep, on top of glamoring
people and make people feel confident and beautiful, right.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
And I think is important too, is that you find
different passions in different stages of your life too. Rite
Like you became a mom, you wanted to start this
business so you could showcase, like, you know, something amazing
for your daughter to look up to, which is very honorable.
We love that kind of stuff. Now, you know, starting
out as a business owner is not easy. And if

(03:01):
you think back to day one when you were kind
of starting things out, is there a piece of advice
that you wish maybe somebody would have given you before
you really started the journey to being a business owner.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
So in the beginning, I was juggling a lot. Yeah,
and it was really hard to stay consistent. And I
really believe that consistency is key. Sure, I had to
sacrifice one hobby for another so that I can be
successful in my business. Right, especially in the beauty world,
you really have to put all your time and effort
into that to be successful. I had to be constantly
up to date on my social media posting. That's the

(03:33):
best way to advertise yourself. Sure, I had to be
on top of practicing and owning in on my craft.
In the beauty world, the looks are constantly changing, especially
as like the years go by, Like beauty has always
been something that's transcended in different ways, and you just
have to stay up to date on all of you do.
Also staying consistent on talking to my customers or my clients,

(03:57):
just creating relationships with them, checking up on them. If
they're posting on social media, I'll swipe up on whatever
is going on in their life and check up on them,
just so they can create a relationship with me and
they can have someone that they can trust to do
their makeup.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I love that I think a lot of us. You
mentioned social media. We scroll through a lot of us
hoping our algorithm is going to feed us inspiration right
things they are going to motivate us, make us feel good, empowered.
Do you have any any quotes, any inspiration things like
that that you live by that keep you going day
to day, keep you motivated in the space that you're in.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah. So I recently just started running my business by
the quote clothes mouths don't get fed, which I'm sure
people are here all the time, but it really is true.
Creating connections is so important in the dance world. I
was able to do that and like talk to people
because in entertainment, like I say, the demand for beauty

(04:48):
will always be there and you never know who you're
going to come across. Like I can be at the
nail salon and talk to the person that's doing my
nails and can I can have a simple conversation with them, like, oh,
I have a wedding coming and I'm like, oh, I'm
a makeup artist, so if you guys are looking for
a makeup artist, I'm available at that day and time,
and just yeah, just creating connections with people and you

(05:08):
never know what a simple conversation can lead to.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah, never be shy about promoting what you do every day, right,
That's so so important. Great reminder this morning. Now, if
you could pick, like a theme song, if you were
about to start glaming somebody up and you had to,
you know, turn on the music to get the vibe going.
What is that theme song anthem for you?

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Serene?

Speaker 3 (05:26):
So I'm a really big Catchernada fan, okay, And there
is a remix that Hated to Be Your Girl by
teacher Moses I believe is her name, Okay, And I
love that song because when I was dancing in high school,
I was actually gonna do my recital solo to that song.
It just makes me feel so confident, which is kind

(05:47):
of goes hand in hand with like me being a
makeup artists. Like everything is just I love giving confidence.
I love exuding it, which is kind of the purpose
of why I'm in the light and of work that
I'm in right now.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I love that thing. We need to jam that one
this morning, Sean. We do.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
You know, it's great. We've gotten so many different answers
to that, and I love when we're familiar with the
songs that people tell us, but I love even more
when we're not because I don't really know that one,
but now I want to hear it because I need that.
I need that same motivation in my life.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yes, it's a very upbeat song, Like it's definitely the
type of song that you can play in the morning
and it kind of just like helps you vibet you go,
get you going.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah, we love that.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
We're going to add that one to the playlist for sure.
Now we're speaking to inspiring motivating women all month long
for Women's History Month. Is there a woman in your
life in particular that's been inspiring to you personally that
you would love to shout out or talk about.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Yeah, my mom is literally the backbone of my success,
besides my partner, Like, she really is my number one
support person. Without her, I wouldn't have been able to
do and makeup artist programs as well as get the
supplies that I needed to become a makeup artist.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Yeh.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
She was helping me with all of this, on top
of helping my siblings who had their own interest in
hobbies and invested in all of that by herself, raised
four kids and invested in each one of our passions
on her own, and she's not only my inspiration for
hard work, but being a great mother as well. I
think it's really important to set your kids up for success,

(07:13):
because she did that for me and well, I mean yeah,
it's literally a superhero.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
I love that, And it's a portant reminder all of
us parents are doing that in some way, right, investing
in our children, kind of what you were doing by
being your own business woman for your for your child
as well. All right, we're investing in our kid's future.
That's hof.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
She either wants to be a dancer, I.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Love that, love that, well, whatever she chooses to do,
she's fortunate to have someone as inspiring as yourself to
light the way for her.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Thank you so much, thank you for being a part
of our twenty twenty six Women who Shine programs. Right,
we love chatting with you this morning.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
So much for having me. I loved it. This is
so exciting. I'm glad you guys are able to do
something like this for women, Like it's it's really a
hard industry, and like yeah, or it's any industry is
really hard for women, and it's really important to highlight
the people or the women that make it what it is.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Absolutely Oh and if we could do one more thing,
just like plug your Instagram real quick. Where can people
learn about your business and hire you?

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Yeah? So on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. You can find
me at beauty by Serene. In each one of those
social media platforms. I have my link to my website
where you can book with me. You can see my policies,
how to book, what services I provide, pricing everywhere. All
my information is on.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
That awesome Thank you again, Surrey. We appreciate your time
this morning.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Thank you guys for having me
