Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is time for the eighteen.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
We'll continue with our conversation about your Houston Astros. Wex
and ac here with you, Josh Jordan as well as
we get you up until six o'clock. A lot of
things have happened since we last spoke in this format
yesterday afternoon, before the Astros took a part show Hey
Otani and the Dodgers to a two to one victory,
and then this afternoon, obviously the she was on the

(00:23):
other foot and you were limping and tripping and falling
over it. Twelve to two victory today for the Dodgers
on their way out of town. Astros off day tomorrow
and then into a series with the Cincinnati Reds beginning
on Friday, with Mike Burrows taking the baseball for the Astro.
Spencer Araghetti after that mentioned a couple of the roster
moves the team has made. Mentioned briefly that we will

(00:44):
get into three Astro former Astros hurlers, that we're using
batters as batting practice over the last handful of days.
Very odd circumstances to be sure, some NBA postseason activities
to discuss, and still some thoughts about where things are
headed with your Houston Rockets. Considering the seasons that end

(01:04):
as they end for all of these teams, they either
have missed the playoffs or now have been eliminated from
the playoffs. We get about eight to ten weeks of
this who's the latest frustrated NBA player and why will
he be with a new team next year? So we'll
add another person to that list and lets you hear
from a lot of the particulars in all of those topics.
As we get rolling here in this five o'clock hours
Haven one three, two, one two five seven ninety to

(01:27):
join us here on the program. Also try to get
a little bit of what lancemacculors had to say after
the game specific to the injury that he indicated he
did have ongoing in that third inning, as our caller suggested,
maybe he should have been taken out even earlier than
two outs in the third inning, and maybe some more
intel on that with what Lance had to say about that.

(01:49):
But where things are and where things are going three
rehabbing pitchers yesterday, and according to Josh Hater, everything is
still in motion. It's going to be a while. He
knows he's not outligible to come back until after May
twenty third and needs the opportunities. He said maybe six
appearances or so. Sounded like he expects to pitch again
on Saturday after his one inning appearance in yesterday's game

(02:12):
that went well. He's certainly trying to reach certain benchmarks
with the pitches he's throwing and the velocity of these delivering,
and it all continues that way. That's kind of the
only other part of this injury situation for the team,
especially from really I don't know if it's especially from
but from all these players trying to come back. The
last level of concern rests with why there was so

(02:34):
much anger last year? Why have you had so many
setbacks with so many different players. Why has the timeline
that even at the time seemed like was very loose
and likely to be hit so few of them were hit,
and that's what you'd like to avoid this year. Hadn't
been any indication of that, And so so far, so good,
you know, nothing from a setback standpoint with any of
the players, pitchers, position players that we're talking about. So far,

(02:58):
you've got the return of Zach Decenzo today. He made
his season debut, was in the lineup and left field
went oh, for three first game of the season for
Saysar Salazar, and in the time since iin or Diaz
was hurt the oblique issue with from a swing in BP,
it's a pretty good indicator from the team that this
is not a short term injury. I don't know that
they're looking to go outside the organization to add a catcher.

(03:20):
I suspect they definitely aren't, so will likely see a
lot of Sassar salas Are and Christian Vasquez over the
next month six weeks at a minimum.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Going back to what you kind of not even half
sarcastically said the other day, good on Dana Brown for
signing Christian Vasquez this offseason. Yees, especially Carotini's now playing
in Minnesota, Well they were.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
It was nice that, you know, Ceasar Salazar had to
get DFA from a roster standpoint, when he did not
make the opening day roster. He was not claimed and
decided to remain with the organization, which clearly is very helpful.
Had that not happened, they probably would have signed some
catcher to a minor league deal and hopefully he would
have been catching games in sugar Land and would have
been the player they called up, which they obviously did

(04:00):
with Salazar, but they don't really have any I mean
Colin Price, or I mean we now know because yesterday
it was announced that Walker Yannick is on the injured
list at Double A because of a hamstring issue. He's
had an awful offensive season. He's already major league ready defensively,
and I think he could handle a pitching staff very well.
But he can't hit minor league pitching currently, so I

(04:20):
don't know that he could hit major league pitching either,
And now he's also hurt. So a true astro, a
former first round pick on the injured list in the minors.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
You're it's funny what you mentioned about Salazar, because I
remember when he was floated out there and cleared waivers
and was available, and you never thought again going back
to all of the injuries, but particularly now, this one
of all the ones we've discussed, that he would be needed,
like absolutely, in every truest sense of the word needed

(04:49):
for the twenty twenty six Astros.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
I spent a lot of time this offseason as things
unfolded everywhere about the infield glut and who's going to
play left field? How do you get all six of
these bats in there. How do you mixing the DH
whereas your don gonna play if he's not the DH
obviously left field, and how often is that going to be.
It's been a non issue the entire season. It took
us away from what we should have been talking about,
which is the actual team and the players on it

(05:12):
and how they they might perform, rather than how do
they get They didn't have it. They've had no issue
getting anybody and everybody into the lineup whenever they want
because it's a matter of who's healthy today and that's
who's playing their infield now, will be will have a hole,
they have a hole at shortstop. It'll be filled by
three reserves at different times. Shay Whitcomb's probably gonna get
opportunities there. I mean, I know they're trying to win,

(05:33):
and I would be trying to do the same thing
if I was Dana and Joe and Jim. But he's
the only developmental player of the three Bringen Shoemake and
Nick Allen, they're not developmental players. They are who they are.
They're not major league caliber players, certainly not offensively. I
don't think Shay Whitcomb is either. But if there was ever,
I guess if there was ever a time to maybe

(05:55):
find out and have him play every day until at
least until Jeremy Payne your return, it might be something
they would consider. They also aren't ready to kick the
season away, even at fifteen and twenty three. I'm sure
they believe in looking at the division standings. If you're
just trying to make the postseason, winning the division does
get you there. They're they're fifteen win team right now

(06:16):
through thirty eight games, and you look in this division,
fifteen wins has you trailing the division leader by three.
That's what I'm saying. The Athletics have eighteen wins. The
Astros have fifteen wins now. Granted, the Astros have quite
a few more losses and wins are hard to come
by now, but the best team in this division is average.

(06:37):
You're below average. That's why.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
And again I'm seeing all of the well are they
going to trade Jordon Alvarez tweets and stories out there?

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Josh Fields is available? No, that's the.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Way the Dodgers would love Jordon, Isn't that funny? Will
give you kell Tucker Man what they have?

Speaker 2 (06:53):
They so they badly need Yord on You know what,
what Dodger's something that I find. I don't think it's funny,
but it's somewhat ironic. You know, Mookie Bets is hurt,
Freddie Freeman, show hey atany Kyle Tucker, Tioscar Hernandez. They're
in the lineup every day, will Smith. These are some
of the best players in baseball. None of them are
the Dodgers' best player this year. The guy who belted

(07:13):
three home runs today is the Dodgers' best player this year. Insane.
He's not show hey Otani. He's He's been great before today,
before this series, he was good. He hit three homers today.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
He was great today, and that's a product of the
Astros pitching as much as it is him.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
I'm gonna give well. He did not homer off of
Niel de los Santos. He did homer off of everybody else,
including the catcher who was pitching. Sometimes there's a multi
home run game to be had against the Astros if
they have a position player pitch. Just ask Nick Kurtz,
who hit his fourth home run against the Astros last

(07:50):
year off of mister Hummel. I remember, Coop. I feel
like I was at that game for some reason. Yeah,
Pahz has now got a nine to forty five oh
ps a six rb II day on a re home
or day, and he's hitting three thirty six. He's arguably
one of the been one of the five six best
National League players this year.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Crossover, how would you do in the American League? I'm
sure he would be just I mean, he's really really good.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
MH.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Do I any more else? Sound to get to I
forget Lance? Oh yeah, we should probably, I mean, yeah
something or something like that.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
It's part of the end.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
You know, got good hitters, you know, head McCown or
two strikes trying to bury, so you know, I get by,
and that's just part of the game.

Speaker 6 (08:33):
I to live with with anything in the third.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
H yeah hi, uh my now part of a portion
of my right pointer for right now popped off when
I was down curveball to uh free Freeland there to
start the third, and uh it's just not an excuse,
just as a matter of fact. And so it's tough
for me after that, and I was trying to get
to the third. Probably didn't have anything after that, but

(08:58):
just trying to get to the third. So you know,
try to give whoever's gonna come out a clean inning,
and uh, you know, had a chance to keep it
close just the you know, didn't do it with Bajaz.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
It's basically what our caller earlier was suggesting. And then
maybe could have gone a different way. He felt like
he could get through the inning. Freeland was the leadoff
hitter in the third inning, and he was still facing
him when it happened. Then he faced though Toni, Freeman, Hernandez, Tucker,
Munsey and Pahz and they had a five run inning.
Last pitch of his outing was the last pitch of
that inning, the three run homer to pause.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
And again, as it was for me earlier when I
wasn't clear on this and for the caller that had
said blister, it was actually a fingernail, as you heard
right there.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, portion of his fingernails from his pointer finger.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
It is crazy how little things like that can affect you.
But I mean, think about what you're trying to do,
and think about who you're trying to get out.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
You gotta spin to win, you gotta have the right grip,
and all those things matter. I mean, manicures for me,
for you, for Josh probably are not of great importance.
Manicures for a pitcher are much more, so I like
to keep it to pedicures. Occasionally, if I'm feeling froggy,
I'll get them. I can't tell you last time. I
don't even think Kayami Fairbairn cares about his pedicures. You've

(10:11):
never been to a nail salon for you? Haven't for me?
Do they do something else your feet? Do they sell food?
This is a cafe and nails your feet done once?
What do I need done to them? Oh? My gosh.
They fit in my socks and shoes every day without
any problem. I don't. I don't tear apart my socks
because I can't cut my own fingernails or toenails. No

(10:32):
problem whatsoever. What happened? Follow them down myself? No problem?

Speaker 7 (10:38):
Easy?

Speaker 2 (10:38):
So easy? What's the What do I need to go
there for? I sure don't need them painted? No?

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Or do I I'm disappointed in you, Yeah, disappointment in
wex from AC because I'm not properly taking care of
my feet by taking my feet to somebody else. What
if the A team went as a tandem to get
that done and then we documented it on social media for.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Those of you out there looking to enhance your business.
The A team is looking for a salon sponsor. We'd
love to have the official salon of the A team
at Adam Weschler at iHeartMedia dot com. If you think
that's something we could help spread the word to our
audience and maybe ourselves as prominent clients.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
To someone who's more well versed in the procedure, you
can email Adam Clanton at iHeartMedia dot com.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Yeah, not everybody's been. And maybe after the you go
for the first time, and I could be looking in
the mirror myself and say, how did I live without this?
Where has this been? All of my life? All of it?
You just try to make my life better.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
I am.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
I should be appreciative. You'll feel better if you get
it done. I have no doubt. All right, we'll continue.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
There is some NBA news and notes to get to
the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Continue.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
Oh yeah, and that thing that Wex mentioned earlier. He
didn't try to slide it under the radar. Not one,
not two, but three former astros pictures using human beings
for target practice.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
That's also coming up.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Next The A on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
I'm gonna go ahead and realloud from one of the
meanest tweets I've seen today. The Astros were going to
have the roof open this afternoon, but closed it when
buzzards started circling above the stadium. That's mean, Tony. And
that was before the first pitch. Yep, that was from
five hours ago, so yep. Well, technically I guess that

(12:31):
would have been in the middle of the carnage. But look,
this Astro season is, if it's not done, is an
on life support, even in light of the very mediocre
division that you just highlighted.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
If they don't pitch, they lose that day. It's as
simple as that. So unless some of the guys they
keep giving the ball to start pitching a little bit
better beyond Arraghetty and Lambert and if you can, if
that can go on for as long as it needs to,
until Brown comes back and also pitches like that, because
there's no guarantee he's going to be the same guy
that he was, which is one of the best pitchers
in baseball. Maybe you're not that far away from Emi

(13:09):
delivering some of these good starts or Javier. I mean,
it's pure hope, that's the thing. It's pure hope. With
so many of these spots, like, why is Mike Burrows
all of a sudden going to start pitching more effectively. Well, okay,
his stuff seems like it's pretty good. Well Lance's stuff
doesn't seem bad, but he can't get guys out and
he can't keep runs from scoring. That's the same thing
with both of those two pitchers. So keeping it where

(13:29):
it is is I think the best they can hope for,
and for the last two weeks they have. If they
can manage to split a series with the Reds, who
are very good and probably a playoff team, then they'll
still have done the same thing for the third straight week.
They went six and six last week or two weeks ago,
or three and three excuse me, in the six games.
Then they went three and three last week in their

(13:51):
six games. If they can at the very least hold
the line not fall ten or twelve games under five hundred,
not see it completely where we did the math the
other day. If you steady things, you can make up
eight games under five hundred maybe and get to ten
or twelve games over if you really start playing good baseball,

(14:11):
and we really believe with a healthy offense, SAMs Korea
now and more days like what you've been getting. I
guess I feel confident that Lambert and Arraghetti are gonna
give you a chance to win every time they pitch.
I don't know you're gonna win six out of their
eight starts. You're gonna win seventy five percent when you
give them the ball. But that's what's had that's what's
happened so far. They've started eight times, they've won six times.

(14:33):
That's the seventy five percent. If that keeps up, they'll
be in great shape. But it won't matter on the
other days because the other days they're not getting outs,
they're not getting they're not giving their team a chance.
The offense had no chance today. That's that's the problem.
The offense had no chance on Monday. That those games
need to stop happening. You need to have games where
it's the seventh or eighth inning you've had a bad day,

(14:54):
but it's six three or it's five to three, not
eight to three, not eleven to one. That's what has
to change.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Hey, but at least fromber Valdez isn't dotting opposing batters
for your team.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Now, we'll try to sequence these late last week, Pittsburgh
Pirates were clobbering the Cincinnati Reds late in the game
on struts. Chris Devinsky for the Pittsburgh Pirates, recently added
to their roster, and he throws a fastball directly at

(15:26):
the Cincinnati Reds batter misses him, but gets ejected from
the game because everybody knew what he was doing for.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Did he punch himself in the face as he walked
back to the dugout.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
He's not Kenny. He's not Kenny Giles. I'm just wondering
since we're now. He took his year out of here
in stride and rolled back out there, and he was
since suspended for it. So the league felt like you
did that intentionally. Okay, So that's one that happened first,
and that was a miss. Last night. We actually had
two of them, two former astros aces dotted up opposing batters.

(15:57):
I'll take the the fromber one. He's since been suspended,
so is his manager. If you don't know, he plays
for the Detroit Tigers when he's not suspended, and he's
managed by aj Hinch. So we're one conversation yesterday ten,
the week before fifteen, the week before that, removed from
man I can't believe the Astros let this happen and

(16:18):
didn't bring fromber Valdez back. This is definitely one of
the reasons why they didn't spend one hundred and fifteen
million over three seasons to have fromber Valdez in their rotations,
which so why.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
He didn't get eight years, two hundred and eighteen million,
even though he has the same numbers as a guy
who did.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yeah, it definitely he brought baggage with him before he
threw a pitch at his own catcher that his catcher
wasn't going to be ready for, and that's why it
hit him in the chest protector. There was already baggage
there and that just added to it. His agent tried
to do damage control in the off season. In the
scenario yesterday where he was pitching against the Red Sox
in Detroit, gave up three in the first team came

(16:56):
back and got him two, so it was three two
heading into the third inning. He was getting in the
third inning, gave up five more runs. They've got three
other rotation starters on the il and Scooble was added
to that, so they needed him to continue. So he
went back out there for the fourth inning, after already
allowing eight runs and seven hits, and then the first

(17:16):
two hitters homered off of him. The third hitter did
not homer off of him because he took a fastball
in the middle of his back, And that was Trevor's story.
He obviously wasn't happy about it, felt it was intentional,
didn't really do anything to make the benches clear, but
some of the things that then to me. He walked
slowly at first, he wasn't even screaming and yelling at Fromber,
but the benches did clear. The umpires after that got

(17:38):
together when nothing happened and everyone bent back to their seats,
and the very tired bullpen guys jogged back to the bullpen,
they decided to eject fromber Valdez.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Oh and by the way, forgive me if I don't
buy Eric Hosmer's theory about him hitting him because he
was stealing signs.

Speaker 7 (17:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Osmer has been on a couple of recent podcasts. The
first one detailed why the Red Sox have been hurt
by the league enforcing the batting coach must stand here rules.
They've had a batting coach, a base coach, the first
and third base coaches. There's a coaching box for them.

(18:17):
There has always been one. It's painted right there on
the grass in every ballparking the major leagues and the
exhibition stadium they play in in West Sacramento Minor League stadium,
and nobody enforced the rules for years, and so base
coaches would find their way into the site lines of
I can see into the pitcher's glove on the third

(18:37):
base coaches responsibility if it's a left handed pitcher that
he can see in the glove, to first base coach's
responsibility if it's a left handed pitcher, who see if
I messed it up, you guys know what I mean.
And Hosmer's theory was, well, now that they're forcing them
to stand where they're supposed to, they don't have the
angle anymore, and he thought that was one of the
reasons why Alex COR's Red Sox got off to a

(18:58):
poor start. And then a second part podcast appearance had
him describing the manner in which they're taking somebody back
in the tunnel who's gathering the information, whistling it off
to somebody else who's giving to this one. And then basically
in yesterday's game, he was trying to point out, here
are the signals that the hitters on second base for
the Red Sox were getting from their runner on second

(19:18):
and getting those signals to the hitter who would then
know what was coming. He's got two feet on the bag,
he's got his hand on his helmet. That means this,
This means that, And they were battering Fromber. So he
was mad about that, and that's why he threw a
pitch at Trevor's story. He got a six game suspension
with somehow, which was reduced to five today. And normally

(19:38):
the manager gets suspended as well. He did and fined.
Now he Fromber has to pay for AJ's fine, right,
I mean it's Fromber. He's making one hundred and fifteen
million dollars, he has to pay for it. Why does
age this Normally when they when they feel like it
was intentional, they just punish the man as well.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Is that why he also went out of his way
to say, we don't do that here, don't suspend me.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Well, what he said that I found most interesting is,
you know, you go out there in those situations, you
kind of understand what's going on. I didn't feel real
good about what was going on out there, basically acknowledging
that his pitcher was in the wrong, not that he
threw at them for a reason other than what the
naked eye would tell you. You're getting clobbered, so you
throw at the guy. The announcers for one of the
team was absolutely saying that. The announcers for the other

(20:28):
team were like, why are you throwing him out just
because the other team got upset? Yeah, I just the
whole thing is just And you know what he said
Frommer did say after the game through his interpreter, it
was not intentional. I know how bad it looked, but
that's not that was not what I intended. Detroit off
to a good start. But like they're under five hundred.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
Well but they I mean, they have been competitive and
they're leading the division even though they are five hundred,
like you said, or under five hundred again another byproduct
of being in a crappy vision. But I like this
this with Tark School bal now this I gin it
could go south very quickly for them.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
It certainly could. This is a pitching issue for them
as a team. He really like, why was he out
there in the fourth inning? He was terrible because they
needed him to this is the second time. It's the
second time this year he has gotten off to a
terrible start in a game. He had a six run
first inning and pitched into the sixth inning of that
game because they needed him to that day, just like

(21:28):
they needed him to on this day. They just couldn't
count on them. And that's kind of I think people
have wondered about some of the clubhouse dynamics. What he
did in that game comes across as exceptionally selfish, not
team centered. Our pitchers are taxed. We need you to
go out there and eat innings. We need you to

(21:49):
get fifteen outs, eighteen outs. Clearly, we don't even care
what the score is. We just can't throw five more
bullpen guys today. And he intentionally hits a guy and
gets thrown out of the game, so they've got a
cut the final eighteen outs of the game. That's selfish.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Yeah, he's You're listing all the reasons, and there's many more.
And I know it's easy to say this because of
where the Astros are and what their pitching staff looks like.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
Uh huh.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
They decided long ago it was not an option, and
they're looking like they were right.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
Yeah, most of his starts have been really really good.
I pointed out the two starts that have been really
really bad, bad enough to have him carrying a four
to fifty seven ERA. The third such pitcher I wanted
to leave to you because I know how much you
like Kermit.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
For Pete's sake, he was.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
A wait a second. I want to make sure that
I that I get this right. He was the reigning
South Atlantic League Player of the Week that got dotted
up by Kermit.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
The Cole.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
He had torpedoed a home run and a single off
of Garrett Cole in his first two at bats, and
then he got dotted in the back between the numbers.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
He threw a fastball right at him. It hit him.
He went down to first really, no incident, and he
didn't think much of it, and the hitter didn't think
much of it, and he just went down to first,
seven up and in on the first pitch. This is
high a ball. This is a minor leaguer who took
Garrett Cole over the wall and as far as I
could tell, didn't do anything. He didn't pimp it. He
threw his bat down and he rounded the bases. Yeah,

(23:21):
and he knew I mean, I'm sure he was excited.
I just homered off Garrett Cole. This is pretty awesome.
But he didn't do anything out of the ordinary that
I noticed.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
Besides, if you're upset that some young up and comer
takes you over the fence, the way you get back
at him is like Randy Johnson got back at Jeff
Blum as he yelled and screamed expletives at him around
the bases. You don't throw him or throw at him.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Yeah, it's my plate. I was just trying to get
him off the plate, which I'm sure is the it's
not your plate, the angle this particular pitcher was taking
when when those things unfolded, it's not your plate.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
If he took you over the fence, idiot, he's so unlikable.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
I gonna go play for the Yankees and never win.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Loser. There are plenty of people that had we found
this information and been on the air at two thirty,
it would have been delivered in a best of X
format because the comments on one of the posts. A
former major leaguer. One of his posts on this was,
I don't even care what the context is. This is
week a mm hmm. Best season ever was still an

(24:26):
Orange loser. We got lots to get to here and
don't have much time to get to it, so we'll
try to shift into more of that when we continue
a little bit on the NBA. As the postseason continues
and players who are no longer playing in the postseason
continue to make the biggest news. We'll get to that next.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
It is the eighteen Sports Talk seven ninety WEX and
AC with you on a Wednesday edition after the Astros
got pelted twelve to two and Carlos Carea's season is
over all right, let's let's talk about some other people's problems.
Alpera and Shangun is the most overrated player in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
So this came from an athletic article which was a
survey of NBA players. What do you think? The first
thing I took away from that information and graft that
was posted along with the article. They don't think he's overrated.
They just don't like him. That's not what I took away. Okay,
I took away from what did the other four hundred
NBA players think that didn't vote. This was a poll

(25:23):
of NBA players, eighty one of them eighty one players
voted on this, and he had the most votes for
the most overrated player. A couple of people got one vote,
a couple others got two, some with four, some with six.
He got twelve or excuse me, ten ten votes. Ten
people in the entire NBA said this. Why, it's not

(25:44):
even the point. I'm just saying, this is such a time.
It could be anybody. It could have been the thirteenth
man for New Orleans. It could have been a starter
in Minnesota. It could have been DeAndre Ayton. It could
be anybody.

Speaker 7 (25:55):
We know.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
One of them was Lebron. You think he took the
time to vote? I do after that for throw interaction,
not from you, man. Everybody on the floor can see
for you.

Speaker 7 (26:04):
Anybody else.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Stop getting worked by not scoring twenty points SGA's team.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
The second thing I took from this was additional information
I wasn't sure of, but I saw when it was
posted later that I was right. You remember who the
most overrated player in the athletic poll was last year?
I don't. He played in the NBA finals, Luca.

Speaker 8 (26:25):
No.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
This past year he played in the most recent NBA finals.

Speaker 7 (26:28):
Was it Shea?

Speaker 2 (26:30):
He's the MVP? I hope he's not overrated MVP, And
where's number zero? And he's hurt? Oh? Jason Tatum yep,
Tyrese Haliburton. Tyrese Haliburton was the athletics. Yes, all the zero,
all the Achilles injuries from the last two postseasons. Where's there?
But he was voted the most overrated player. That's not

(26:50):
the term I would use. Is he overrated?

Speaker 7 (26:52):
Now?

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Look at the pacers, I mean, seems pretty helpful. Yeah,
I know they got at the time. I would imagine
was on this list this year? What are you talking about? So?
How much stock do you put in it? Can you
understand why people might think that? Yeah, especially guys that
don't appreciate what he does.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
Which some of that is fine off to me, especially
with the names on that list, like an anti popularity contest.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
That's reasonable. Hey I'm pretty good. How come this guy's
getting so much love when he does this, this, and this.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
Hey it's Alpi. I'm not overrated, That's how he would respond.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
It all happened on the same day Alpi sent out
his thank you post on Instagram, which you uh, you're
scrolling through his photos to see with some of the
ones because most of the stuff that the players have
at their disposal to post throughout the season comes from
the Rockets and the NBA, their own social media and
creative team or NBA photographers. And one of the photos

(27:45):
he chose, I couldn't tell who was on the call
that night, but when they're at the scores table with
a headset on post game, that means they're talking to
Rockets Radio. Think it was me. And here's why.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
I specifically remember him sitting that way with his back
to us as he cursed on the postgame show for
like the billionth time this season, and Josh c was
freaking out back here at the station.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
I couldn't tell which one it was because he I've
had him, You've had him many times. He usually sits
like that because he's tired and so Yes, it was
a nice little homage, I'm sure, very well thought out
homage to his visits with Matt Thomas, Adam Clanton and
yours truly after a victory.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
If that is his last post as a Rocket, jeez,
it's because he got traded for Jalen Brown.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Don't believe me when I say it.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Listen to his close personal friend, former Rocket Tracy McGrady.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
So I might even say mentor.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
It's frustration lies deeply within the organization and other things
that we don't really.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Have the details too. There's just been a lot.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
Of stuff, you know that I've been hearing just going
on with the Boston organization with jav you know. So
I think part of him is like I showed you
guys more of who I am as a basketball player,
not only just you know, what I did on the
basketball court, but the leadership that I displayed within you know,
this team, and you've seen that not having our you know,

(29:12):
best player in JC, You've seen a different side of
me and what I I'm able to bring to the
game of basketball.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
So all that stuff, you know, I think just came
in to play with him.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
From the podcast that he does with Vince Carter Tracey McGrady,
he said some would call him his mentor. They are
very close. They obviously have been around each other for
a long period of time during Jalen Brown's career. This
comes off the heels of his own appearance on his
Twitch channel where he said this was the most enjoyable
season of his career, which many interpreted, including on this show,

(29:45):
to mean all this time I got to show how
awesome I am while Jason wasn't here with us, was
really enjoyable for me.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Then he came back, and then he copped out of
the NBA or the Game seven of their playoff series.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Their Executive of the Year, Brad Stevens, met with the
media today and was asked about all of these things.
We just laid out that the comments made by a
Tracy McGrady, the comments made by Jalen Brown about the
enjoyment of his season, but maybe in this particular clip,
most specifically on the comments we just heard from T MAC.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
I talked to Jalen Monday a little bit.

Speaker 6 (30:18):
He has not expressed those frustrations to me. We've been
here ten years together, and I do think that, you know, obviously,
I love JB, and everybody around here loves JB. And
you know, I think, just like any of our other guys,
as we get to the end of the season, I'll
be here and my door's always open, and none of
that has been expressed to me.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Now, I'll be here, he just said. And I'm glad
we played the whole thing out like good responsible members
of the media should. My door's always open. I'll be here.
I saw someone grab parts of what he said in
a post on social media to say, I haven't heard
those frustrations. You know, we had a brief conversation. Everything

(31:00):
seemed fine dot dot dot. I'll be here. I mean,
their media journalism is dead. I mean, if he wants out,
that's fine. I know I'll be here. Like it's clearly
so far from what he said, and we'll see where
this goes, because obviously, if nothing else, it is a.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
Thing Tracy McGrady, if they're this close going out and
saying this, he didn't do that without the green light
from Jalen Brown.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
So when is when's your when's your executive available? He's
available Wednesday afternoon. So when do you want me to
post this? Well, preferably if you and Vince could talk
about it on your podcast Tuesday, that would be awesome. Yeah,
no problem.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Man, Yeah, I mean listen, I I kind of like
half jokingly put his name out there as someone the
asked or the Rockets should target if they're really going
quote big fish hunting. And then of course, now Brian
Windhors has Giannis for Jalen Brown out there already halfway done.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Of course, So to wrap up the Jalen Brown plays
his next game where portion of today's show bet Online's
got the odds for you, and they make very little sense.
The Hawks are number one. There's a local tie to that,
going back to Atlanta. Well, he wants to go get
blown out by the Knicks two. With him on the team,
they're probably better. Oh they only lose by thirty instead

(32:16):
of fifty. The Pelicans is the one I really had, like,
come on, man, tell me, make this make sense. Just
you know what, I'm one of the best teams.

Speaker 7 (32:25):
In the East.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
It's fun to play in the postseason. Maxed out now,
I want to go to the Smoothie King Center. I
want to maybe maybe make the playoffs. Maybe they'll pay
me even more and do my extension. But yeah, so
they were next, then the Bucks, and then the Houston
Rockets seven to one odds. Jalen Brown bounces the ball
next one.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
Uniforms coached by a former Celtics head coaches.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
There is a link to the Houston Rockets. There are
a few more items to get to here on the
program brief as it was right here on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
On Sports Talk seven ninety, a.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Couple of NBA Tilts tonight made the same story over
the course of the next several days, all the way
through at least the Game fours, because there could obviously
be some sweeps afoot. Last night, the two teams took
one games to one game to none leads in their series. Tonight,
the Knicks and t Wolves will try to take two
games to none lead in their series. Detroit and Oklahoma City.

(33:25):
The two one seeds were victorious last evening. No Joe
lmb'd tonight for the seventy six ers. They got wabbed
by the Knicks in Game one, so possibly more of
the same tonight, and I assume will return to the
court for the Minnesota Timberwolves, who do expect Anthony Edwards
to play once again. Last night, the Lakers flirted with

(33:47):
covering and then didn't, lost by eighteen to the Oklahoma
City Thunder who knew they actually suck. The Austin reeves
that the Rockets saw in Game five was the Austin
reeves that the thought undersaw last night. In Game one.
He took sixteen shots in each game. He hit four
of them against Houston, he hit three of them last night.
He has not been quite as helpful in some of

(34:10):
their games. Obviously, he was very helpful in Game six,
unfortunately hit half of his shots, several of which were
blowbys for layups. But two of his three games have
been awful offensively, and he had a little little bit
of the turnover issues. In last night's game, Detroit handled
business and taking their opener of their series. I give
you this. There have been three players average these numbers

(34:33):
over an entire postseason any individual postseason eight or more boards,
three or more assists, two or more steals, two or
more blocks. Kim Olajuan is on the list twice. He's
done it twice, one in a very long sixteen game postseason.
Sean Kemp also did it once, it happened over just
one series. The only other players since nineteen seventy three

(34:57):
nineteen seventy four to do that eight or more towards
a game, three or more assists per game, two or
more steals, two or more blocks per game in a postseason.
The only other player to do that is trying to
do that right now, currently averaging in the twenty twenty
six postseason those particular numbers. So he's on one of

(35:17):
the eight teams currently playing who might that be VICKI
it's not Vicky Anthony Edwards. It's not it.

Speaker 7 (35:26):
I give up.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
He plays for the Pistons and he has a brother
who looks just like him.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
Was that brother in attendance last night as he played
a basketball game in the postseason?

Speaker 2 (35:35):
He was, I love that. Oh we won't hear from
him though, Oh, I thought you were about to play
the odds. I would, but I can't. If Josh can,
He's more than welcome to. I was not aware that
I would be unable to play it before we were
in segment. Man Thompson on us R. Thompson from last
evening the NBA caught up with a man who was

(35:56):
in attendance, had a very very good seat for another
extraly awesome athletic display from his bro who is trying
to kind of write the ship with the Pistons, who
had a tough go of things against the Magic. They
won three straight to win that series, and they've opened
up this series with a very impressive victory as well.
This was a men Thompson last night after watching courtside
what his brother was up to.

Speaker 7 (36:17):
Yeah, I ain't know. I was that much of a fan.
So for this game.

Speaker 8 (36:19):
You know, he was doing stuff I know he could do,
but it's crazy to watch from court side.

Speaker 7 (36:24):
For sure.

Speaker 8 (36:24):
I think he saw me early on, but he was
He lied a little bit, but he was already locked
in so super proud.

Speaker 7 (36:30):
I mean, he brought so much energy.

Speaker 8 (36:32):
You know, it's pushing the face, playing great defense, facilitating.

Speaker 7 (36:35):
I mean, they played great, just.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
As I heard it this time. When I heard it
for the first time last night, I wondered where he
thought he was. He was speaking like he was in
the loudest place ever. I'm not sure why he was yelling.
There was this post game there's nobody around, and you
could hear him the game was over.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
I wasn't a margin of a fan of his until
after that I saw this game.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
We'll think about their lives together, which we talked about
on Draft day for him here when his family was here,
and it's the first time they were going to play
not with each other. And that also means on the
nights he's played where he's watched him play as an
NBA player and been in attendance, he's been against him,
he's been on the other team, so he hasn't had
the opportunity to go to his I mean, this is

(37:16):
it's better. He made it sound like he just showed
up and didn't tell him he was coming. I mean
he could probably get tickets without his help.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Yeah, but that's funny, like not to tell your brother
you're gonna show up to watch him in an NBA
playoff game and he finds out when he sees you
as he's playing on the floor in your twins.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
That guy looks just like me. It's crazy. I love that.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
I should maybe they should max out him in just
for his sense of humor.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
He's a good dude. Yeah, I like him a lot.
That was interesting.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
I'm very much looking forward to the Spurs falling into
an O two hole tonight.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
I think something we've actually seen the numbers, unlike the
Amen Thompson numbers we were talking about the other day
where I was actually wrong. Try to point that out
on the X platform, but I probably should do it
here as well.

Speaker 7 (38:00):
Well.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
Amn Thompson shooting from ten feet in in he's very
very good. That's what I was about to say. Twelve
and fifteen, he actually took a well, he got way
worse this year. Yeah, he was almost fifty percent last year.
This year is at thirty three percent. That's funny.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
When you were saying that, I thought to myself, fifteen
it's a free throw line.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
Like I'm looking at where he's taking all these shots
that just go right through the net. I'm like, yeah,
that seems like fifteen feet. It's actually a little bit
closer than that. So pretty much everything ten feet in.
I wish he would just shoot more, and he should be.
This is what I'm He can work on a three
point shot all he wants, and I'm all for it,
but I'd prefer if he just got more proficient from eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen,

(38:41):
fifteen feet. Those shots are there all the time, and
he's much more likely because he shoots those shots like
their nothing Like. Watch his form on those shots versus
his form on his threes. It's a totally different shot
because he's shooting it from twenty some odd feet and
he has to do things differently because he's an airball
machine from twenty three feet. And regardless of that, I

(39:02):
don't know if we want to get into all that
as we wrap things up. He's an airball machine from three.
He's an airball machine because the threes he shoots when
they're not in the corner are.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
Grenade and I don't why they do that.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Romise would be to only work on corner threes because
that seems to be the only modicum of success he's
had from distance.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
Yeah, and in this offense, which they may or may
not run next year. Yeah, those shots are available to
whomever is on the court at the time they've designated
to go, hang out and react. If you're still here, Yeah,
lots for us to get to. We could not get
to all of it here this afternoon. Luckily, we have
an entire four hour program for you tomorrow and off
day for the astros, so we look forward to that conversation.
