the NFL will officially release their respective seventeen game slates

that's been floated out there rumors obviously one game officially
announced for the Texans with their international game with the
Jacksonville Jaguars, is known, but I think we know or
feel very confident about many of the other games. Check
in on that a little bit. We had a very
very entertaining game in the NBA last night, although I

knew as soon as a couple of things happened in
the final few minutes and overtime, I would need to
be checking in for pulling out your hair moments on
the last two minutes. Report. Well, I don't have last
night's worry about that, so I'm good. Well, it's all
those things, like I said, let's just get right to
you guys here initially so we can hear what you

Well, it's Tom Lex ANDAC got a really cool story
for you guys. I am a ten year season ticket
holder and I have seen some absolutely epic games at
Mini May Diking Park, and to kind of started all off,
it was the first game of the twenty twenty two playoffs.
We played the Mariners and that game ended with an

I'm setting up in Section fifty four where my tickets are,
and Jay Rod comes out and he throws me a
ball and I caught it.

A couple of years later, it was last year. It
was the very last Friday night fireworks game of the
season in the seats, and sure enough, Jay Rodd turns
around and he throws me another ball.

And so this year we renew our season tickets and
I'm immediately looking at the schedule, looking all right, when
am I gonna get.

And I have chosen today and I'm ready to go.
I get to the park. I was literally the first
one in the park today at eleven o'clock and went
down on the third base line. So all the pitchers
and catchers throwing bullpens chatting with them, get to.

The lineup comes out and Jay Rod is dhing and
kind of crushed my spirits.

BP and a fan atop the Astros dugout basically challenged
him to launch a ball over the seats and too
as basically a specific target, and wagered with him and said,

I'll bet you my shoes and Julu. Rodriguez proceeded to
smash a home run to that spot and laughed and
walked over to him, and the guy flung his flip
flops onto the field for Rodriguez and he said, I
guess I got a new pair of shoes here. One
of the Astros MLB photographers videographers captured it all. Michaela

is right place, right time kind of situation, and what
the story we just heard was. What I'm just telling
you goes back into what you've said many times during
his time in the Majors and as many trips to Houston,
and you can see it when he's out there playing.
The guy's smiling all the time. He's having a great time.
He's enjoying it for what it is. He's helping to
make it enjoyable for the people that are coming to games.

He doesn't play for the team you're rooting for, but
it's a game and he's playing it that way with

I'm not telling you they're going to be there. But
the only three seasons in Astro's history that produced a
lower winning percentage than the one they currently have are

in franchise history that our caller and anybody else would
have ever seen then at a lower winning percentage than
the one that they have so far produced this year.

they gave a higher in the game, like the single
single this picture has gotten anybody out. Let's give him
an out mission accomplished, serious question. Let's take the bat
out of Jordon's hands by making sure first base is open.

I would I tend to say I would expect to
see Myers with the Astros, maybe as early as that

weekend they'll need to see. It's still more about other
players that are more like three to four weeks away.

That would be a big deal for the Astros. A
lot of blame to go around, and it's hard to
figure where to place it all. Manager obviously deserves some,
the general manager deserves some, of those above him deserves some,
and clearly even the players on the field when they're

time getting through his inning. I if I tracked it correctly,
he threw ten pitches out of his own and the
Astros swung and missed at seven of them in that
one inning he was out there for. And if they're
trying to put you on base, take it. The Astros
try to put runners on base, and the opponents are
taking it two hundred and twenty eight times plus hit

the series is completed, how often did the Astros out
hit the Mariners in this series? I know it was

Jim Crane's not okay with this. He's not going to
sit idly by with this. We don't know the answer
to when he feels like something on his end has
to change, but heading in this path that they're on,
it's definitely going to change. Different situation than most teams
are in. It's not very often where both the manager
and the general manager do know how to have a

contract for the upcoming season. They're playing out the final
months of their current contract. Each he could sit idly
by and say, look, it's not gonna happen this year,
but I don't have any reason to make a change
because they're going to be gone anyway, which is possible.
But you also have to factor in the other elements
of the season. Are you trading players this year because
you're not in it? Well, your general manager is in charge.

If you don't want him back, do you want him
doing this? Are you looking forward to the future. Do
you want to get a look at Dave Clark or
Omar Lopez as a manager, both of whom are in house.
I don't know if those are things or factors. There's
a lot of things that he'll be thinking about. But
watching this unfold and doing nothing from my seat doesn't
sound like something he would do from his seat.

You know, say what you will about Jim Crane during
his ownership tenure, but two things.

Cannot be disputed.

He's the best Astros owner in by far, in the
history of the frant It's not even close.

That's not even a knock anybody else. It's just that.

I mean, they were around for fifty years and did
basically nothing, and then he got a hold of the
team and it's been like like insane embarrassment of riches
from a winning standpoint for the better part of the
last decade. And the other part is he's never say
what you will about him talking about Jim Crane. I
don't know that he makes rash decisions. Like I know,

there's been some decisions that he has made that had
been questionable on the outside, like going and trading Justin
for Justin Burley under the second time and giving up prospects.
It ended up not looking too bad in hindsight.

I don't one of the prospects is still toiling in
the minors, and the other one it has been told
to stop pushing his pelvis while uniformed into his other
two outfielders when they win a game in San Francisco.
Say it, he's been told to stop humping, I e. Celebrating.

But the thing is, even for those, every every one
of those kinds of decisions, he's been.

question who's been the best. And the decisions that he made,
the good ones just so dramatically out with that, and
some are big, you know, moving on from the last
general manager, James Klick, that was a big decision. Operating

the way they did immediately after that, and handing out
some of the contracts that they did immediately after that.
These are all big, long term impact decisions. Some are good,
some aren't. Clearly the winning suggests many more of them
have been.

But for him to own the team for relatively as
little time as he has and be seriously in the
conversation for best sports owner in the history of this city,
and it's not even an argument, it's that's pretty good.

It's him and less that a shot at the city.
I mean, it's not so you're talking about the guy
who won twice here in Houston with the Astros, Jim Crane,
the guy who won twice here in Houston with the Rockets,
less Alexander, with one of immediately, I mean, he could
not have put that team together any better. Oh wait,
he didn't put the team together at all. He just
came in and they won. He kept trying. He did.

He was a and above trying. Jim Crane like, I'm
still going for it, let's try this, let's move the ward.
I totally respect that. And yes, then if you're talking
about either of the football outfits there at the other end,
there's two championship games in the conference that the Nashville
teams visited, but obviously nothing in the twenty five were

celebrating the twenty fifth anniversary of the birth of the
Houston Texans and this season so they're twenty fifth anniversary season,
they have yet to visit the conference title games.

Are in the best shape of the major three teams.

Just that's it's not a bold statement. I know sometimes
sounds like it, but they're absolutely in a better they've
been in the They have major postseason issues their own and
losing in the divisional round three straight years. They've been
in the divisional round three straight years. That means they're
in the conference semifinals three straight years. They're in the
final four of the AFC three straight years. The Rockets

clearly aren't there yet and haven't been there in quite
some time now, more than half a decade.

I'd say, pending some serious like moves this summer, the
Texans are going to absolutely be carrying the sports calendar
for twenty twenty six for Houston.

did you want from the Texans schedule? And we'll find

know that their popular primetime team and in their more

recent prime time standalone games, they've delivered exciting football win
or lose. Was there a game or two or three
that you wanted to see a time in the season
you wanted them to go visit them a season opener,
a season ender, or late season game that you wanted.

I wanted primetime games that were here. I mean, everybody
wants that. Yeah, we don't know everything yet. They leak

that kind of potential, whether it's here or somewhere else.
I'm taking a primetime game that everybody's watching when they're awake,

You're not real happy with where the team is. Most
of those who have called in this afternoon or similar thoughts,
the players aren't, the manager's not, the general managers not.
And as you bring up, Jim Crane's not happy with this.

Jim Crane's not okay with this. He's not going to
sit idly by with this. We don't know the answer
to when he feels like something on his end has
to change, but heading in this path that they're on,
it's definitely going to change. Different situation than most teams
are in. It's not very often where both the manager
and the general manager do know how to have a

contract for the upcoming season. They're playing out the final
months of their current contract. Each he could sit idly
by and say, look, it's not gonna happen this year,
but I don't have any reason to make a change
because they're going to be gone anyway, which is possible.
But you also have to factor in the other elements
of the season. Are you trading players this year because
you're not in it? Well, your general manager is in charge.
(19:18):
If you don't want him back, do you want him
doing this? Are you looking forward to the future. Do
you want to get a look at Dave Clark or
Omar Lopez as a manager, both of whom are in house.
I don't know if those are things or factors. There's
a lot of things that he'll be thinking about. But
watching this unfold and doing nothing from my seat doesn't
sound like something he would do from his seat.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
You know, say what you will about Jim Crane during
his ownership tenure, but two things.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
Cannot be disputed.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
He's the best Astros owner in by far, in the
history of the frant It's not even close.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
That's not even a knock anybody else. It's just that.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
I mean, they were around for fifty years and did
basically nothing, and then he got a hold of the
team and it's been like like insane embarrassment of riches
from a winning standpoint for the better part of the
last decade. And the other part is he's never say
what you will about him talking about Jim Crane. I
don't know that he makes rash decisions. Like I know,
(20:19):
there's been some decisions that he has made that had
been questionable on the outside, like going and trading Justin
for Justin Burley under the second time and giving up prospects.
It ended up not looking too bad in hindsight.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
I don't one of the prospects is still toiling in
the minors, and the other one it has been told
to stop pushing his pelvis while uniformed into his other
two outfielders when they win a game in San Francisco.
Say it, he's been told to stop humping, I e. Celebrating.

But the thing is, even for those, every every one
of those kinds of decisions, he's been.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Pretty I mean, you don't.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
You don't do things the way he did by bringing
in Jeff Luno and then letting him cook, as the
kids say, the way he cooked so methodically.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
So let's just say it. Drop everything down, yeah, drop
his decisions on a on a scale. One side is
good and one side is best. That's not even a
question who's been the best. And the decisions that he made,
the good ones just so dramatically out with that, and
some are big, you know, moving on from the last
general manager, James Klick, that was a big decision. Operating

the way they did immediately after that, and handing out
some of the contracts that they did immediately after that.
These are all big, long term impact decisions. Some are good,
some aren't. Clearly the winning suggests many more of them
have been.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
But for him to own the team for relatively as
little time as he has and be seriously in the
conversation for best sports owner in the history of this city,
and it's not even an argument, it's that's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
It's him and less that a shot at the city.
I mean, it's not so you're talking about the guy
who won twice here in Houston with the Astros, Jim Crane,
the guy who won twice here in Houston with the Rockets,
less Alexander, with one of immediately, I mean, he could
not have put that team together any better. Oh wait,
he didn't put the team together at all. He just
came in and they won. He kept trying. He did.

He was a and above trying. Jim Crane like, I'm
still going for it, let's try this, let's move the ward.
I totally respect that. And yes, then if you're talking
about either of the football outfits there at the other end,
there's two championship games in the conference that the Nashville
teams visited, but obviously nothing in the twenty five were

celebrating the twenty fifth anniversary of the birth of the
Houston Texans and this season so they're twenty fifth anniversary season,
they have yet to visit the conference title games.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Are in the best shape of the major three teams.
It's not sorry, Rockets, but you.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Just that's it's not a bold statement. I know sometimes
sounds like it, but they're absolutely in a better they've
been in the They have major postseason issues their own and
losing in the divisional round three straight years. They've been
in the divisional round three straight years. That means they're
in the conference semifinals three straight years. They're in the
final four of the AFC three straight years. The Rockets

clearly aren't there yet and haven't been there in quite
some time now, more than half a decade.

I'd say, pending some serious like moves this summer, the
Texans are going to absolutely be carrying the sports calendar
for twenty twenty six for Houston.

And it's not really even a question. We'll see. We'll
see what happens in the summer of twenty twenty seven
when the Houston Comets land the number one pick in
the draft. I can say this, Juju Watkins is coming
to the.

have a pretty good idea of some things that are
in store for fans and where they might want to
go and what the traveling plans for your football team
might be moving forward. As we continue here on The

Thursday edition of The A Team. Following Astros Baseball, they
closed up their four game series the Mariners, dropping three
of the four. Today's loss was eight to three. They
do not fall any further back of the division leading
Oakland Athletics, who now play in Sacramento because the A's
allowed two Cardinals runs to score on the top of

the ninth inning and they lost. So thinks stay right
where they were in that regard. Rangers were off today,
Angels were off today. Obviously the Mariners won today. What
did you want from the Texans schedule? And we'll find
out officially in about an hour, but enough leaks were
out there. If you know who they were playing, you
know that their popular primetime team and in their more

recent prime time standalone games, they've delivered exciting football win
or lose. Was there a game or two or three
that you wanted to see a time in the season
you wanted them to go visit them a season opener,
a season ender, or late season game that you wanted.

I well, we were discussing this before the show began.
I wanted primetime games that were here. I mean, everybody
wants that. Yeah, we don't know everything yet. They leak
says they will play the day before Saint Nick visits
through the Chimney.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
That's not gonna be here, not gonna be here, but
gonna be in Philadelphia. That's a Thursday night football game.
NFL would have been playing that Thursday night. Regardless, it
does happen to come between a trio of games on
Christmas Day.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
And just real quick, before you go any further, I
do look at the London game as taking away from
that kind of potential, whether it's here or somewhere else.
I'm taking a primetime game that everybody's watching when they're awake,
over any sort of over the pond game.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
I haven't mentioned this the fifteen times you've brought it up,
like I'm not some hangover ridden eighteen nineteen, twenty five years,
Like it's really a chore to wake up to watch
the NFL at eight thirty on a Sunday morning.

It's at short to get up before eight o'clock for anything, Okay,
I couldn't. I take my kid to school every day.
We leave the house at seven to twelve.

You're good Gas an hour and ten minutes away.

The only reason I don't hate every second of it
is because who I'm doing it for and with. But
like I zone Car, I am not he's seven and
a half. I am not a morning person. I don't
know if you realize that about me after twenty years
and seeing each other. I don't like being up in
the morning. I don't like people talking to me. I
don't like people looking at me at that time of day.
I'm not even really in a good mood potentially until

at least like noon.

So at eight thirty eight, the morning of October eighteenth,
when you're eight minutes into the Jaguars Texans game from
London and the Jaguars have gone right down the field
and taken a seven to nothing lead, are you turning
it off and going back to bed.

I'll I will take a litmus test of the situation.
That game has been announced. That is a fact.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
They will play Week six unquote road game at Jacksonville.
The game is being played in London, Wembley. That is
the eighteenth of October.

I'll tell you where the league missed opener against the Bills. Yeah,
I want to put that at noon. Well you hear
we know what their other games are. No, I know,
but like if you need to set Bills expected to
visit Houston opening game, which is great, but like you
already saw this last season and saw what it can provide.

From a drama standpoint, it was it was the best
I would argue without looking at what happened because it's
not in front of me. I would argue it was
the best Thursday Night game of last season.

So Sunday Night Football opening weekend, we know that's Giants
and Cowboys. First game for coach Harbor. Of course you
have to have the Cowboys on TV eighty two. Eighteenth
game for Brian Schottenheimer. Monday Night Football opening week is
that chief Sproncos game, which they're taking a small chance
because of Pat mahomes injury situation, but they're presuming we've

got bon Nicks in the very very good Denver Broncos
and Pat Mahomes and Travis Kelcey and the very good
and it's his return game Kansas City Chiefs. They chose
that over Josh Allen and the Bills versus c. J.
Stroud and the Texans. That seems reasonable. Oh no, no, I'm
fine with that.

I'm not fine with them choosing Cowboys Giants over I
don't care about numbers or anything.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
It's not gonna be that's all there. It's gonna be
a tyrole game. You lopsided who is gonna win.

So dramastic Dallas wow on the Cowboys, like it's in
Dallas isn't it.

of second half of the season primetime game standalone games
for the Texans. There will be away from town other

visit town. It appears they will be in Pittsburgh for
their first game in December Sunday Night Football, and mentioned

the Thursday Night Football Week sixteen, the day before Christmas,
on the road at the Eagles, tough place to play.

that's where we come up with. It appears the Texans
will be visiting Tennessee before they go to London, that's
week five, and then after they get back from London. Well,
a lot of people thought that the Jaguars would have
their off week, which I still think is factual, and

the Texans might does not appear that way. If the
leaked Giants schedule is accurate, they will be coming back
to Houston to play John Harbaugh's team immediately after visiting
I don't even know who to say visiting England. I
know the Jags, I know people. The other game that
I think we think we know is the Washington game,

visiting Washington in a week fourteen.

Oh, and I think you said this off the air,
but I'm not sure if you said it on the air.
They will not have a bye after that London game.

The London game will bring them back to Houston. They'll
play the Giants. And then their off week appears to

I'm just like, to me, the team that is most
intriguing to me, that's not the Texans next season, and
I you know what, We'll just do this by conference.
I'm really like, I'm not bullish on them, but I'm
I'm curious to see if they build on what happened

last year mixed with health, the Giants are a very
intriguing team. I think that highly of John Harbaugh as
a head coach, and I think with Skataboo doing scataboo
things and darts like a wild card.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yet I don't know there's there's something there. Am I off?
Am I crazy to think that. I think it's hard
to consider them for one reason, and it's darts, health.
He's he plays football like he's a linebacker. He's a quarterback.
So does Skataboo. Well he's not the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Yeah, and he has a much lower center of gravity.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
It's it's not a good hits you, not a good
way to go through life as a quarterback in the NFL.
And playing that way. They made a couple of other
moves that are probably pretty helpful. They clearly have some
giants or ravens like beliefs. I think about how they
want to run their offense a little bit this year,
and they would obviously love to see Dart stay out
of harms way more. They're gonna miss one Dale Robinson,

the expectation is, and there was even news on that
the last couple of days about Malik Neighbor's health situation,
which is promising. I'm just I think they're too far away.
I think the Eagles are still with all their nonsense,
I'm not well above them. I think the Commanders could easily,
because of Jayden Daniels, have a great year again, not
(33:39):
win the division type of year and make the conference
championship game like they did his rookie season. But I
think there's a lot there. Do you care if you
know the Texans are going to have a joint practice
during the preseason, do you care who that team is?
Do you care who the preseason games are against. They'll
probably have two at home and one on the road,
as they have had Pame have never met Lesson. No,

I don't care about who they are. I'm just strictly
talking about would it be nice to see them match
up with X team two days on the Texans practice field,
because you get a little idea of more things and
it's helpful. I really like you. I don't care who
plays in the game.

The funniest thing about that is the most helpful thing
for this Texans offense is to go against this Texans defense.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
That's true, and they will do that quite a bit
during the next coming weeks. So they'll have a couple
of OTAs mandatory mini camp offer about six weeks, and
then training camp will begin and we'll know a little
bit more about all of that. We'll know all of
these schedule coming up in just a few minutes. Like
I said, we're not leaving the airwaves here on Sports
